Ragnarok was over. The snow was beginning to melt, the animals were coming out of their hiding places, Atreus had gone to write his own history and Kratos and Freya joined forces to restore order to the remaining Kingdoms. You should have been delighted, but for some time now, your companion had stopped paying attention to you, focusing on his mission and the Vane Goddess. Normally, you wouldn't be worried, but Kratos had asked you to accompany them on their restorative quest. At first, they let you help them, but as time went on, he started ordering you to stay back so as not to hinder them during the fights. You had naively thought that they didn't want you to get hurt.
The reality was quite different.
At first, you were not to disturb Kratos and Freya during their fight, then you were not to disturb them while they were looking for a way to find an accessible path, you were not to disturb them during their discussion. Basically, you just had to sit in the boat and keep quiet. You were just allowed to watch Kratos and Freya get closer before your eyes. They tortured you in the worst way: they ignored you. They acted like you weren't with them. The only person who paid attention to you was Mimir. The head tried to subtly point out Kratos' erratic behavior, but the God didn't understand. He didn't understand why you glared at him when he gave Freya the flowers she was looking for. He didn't understand why you had tears in your eyes when he asked you to stay on the boat.
You had been following Kratos through the different Realms for several weeks and you had been thinking about returning to Midgard, returning to your mother. Kratos had certainly grown tired of you. It was understandable. You were just a mortal, Freya was a Goddess, she was beautiful, the former queen of the Valkyries, she was strong, everything you were not.
Kratos was tired of you.
You sighed as you carefully watched Kratos clean the garden of a spirit that had tended it in honor of Freya. Of course, that simple remark was enough for Kratos to help him. Why did he have to do all this for Freya? Once the mission was accomplished, the spirit could finally find peace. But you felt rage boiling in your veins seeing him hand flowers to the Goddess who blushed like a young girl delighted that the man she loves gives her a gift. They were laughing at you, there was no other explanation.
Kratos had been clear before the wedding. You shouldn't expect him to give you gifts or say sweet words to you. It wasn't his style. Over three long, cold winters, you had gotten used to it. After all, Kratos was your husband. He had taken care of you, in his own way. But now, seeing how he treated Freya, you understood.
Kratos didn't care about you.
You were just a distraction and now that he had found a more interesting woman, you were no longer useful to him. You waited for them to return to the boat to tell them that you wanted to return to Freyr's camp. Kratos hadn't asked a question. He hadn't tried to stop you. He just dropped you off on a shore, not far from a door leading to the branches of the World Tree. Luckily Brok gave you a key to Yddrasile, otherwise he would have just abandoned you on the shore, with no way of getting back to camp. You activated the door, walking through the huge door, you walked through the portal. You were now in the garden of Kratos' house in Midgard. Speki and Svanna came to welcome you. You smiled sadly at the two wolves, gently patting their heads. You went back inside the house. You moved closer to the bed, sitting on it, thinking about what to do next.
You can't stay here anymore.
You couldn't stay here.
What was the point of staying with a man who didn't care about you?
If Kratos didn't care about you, how would he act when you gave birth to his child? You found out you were pregnant. You couldn't stay with a man who abandoned you at the first opportunity. You left your bed, starting to pack the few things you had acquired. You took Speki and Svanna to the sleigh. There was no way they were going to stay here alone. You returned to the house one last time, making sure you hadn't forgotten. You sighed, mentally apologizing to Atreus. Now that he had left the family nest, you couldn't hold on any longer. You took off your wedding ring. This ring that had no meaning to the man who gave it to you. Your mother was right. You should never have married him. You were nothing special. You were banal, useless, uninteresting.
You dropped the ring on the ground, leaving this house for good. Leaving the one you thought was your husband. A man you thought you mattered.
You returned to the sleigh, setting off, leaving this place definitively.

I’ve been thinking about Kratos again forgive me—
Has anyone ever sat down and thought about how, post Ragnarok, and now Valhalla Kratos is very much seen as a revered and highly thought of god?
Like, the people of Midgard seemingly making a wide berth for him and Freya as they go to meet with the currently village leaders over trade and any possible supply needs they request. Though Kratos is use to the whispers that happen behind his back- he’s faced it before- it holds a different weight now. He cares deeply for the people and their safety; the safety that he’s responsible for.
He now feels that divide in a way. What he could’ve been before, a simple father raising his son after his wife’s passing to the new god of war, the savior of Ragnarok, General to some and protector of the Nine Realms. It feels like a new burden but ones he’s willing to allow bury himself under for the sake of others.
And don’t get him started on the titles. I’d think him unnerved being called ‘Lord Kratos’
‘Kratos is enough.’ He’s fine with General, it’s something he’s familiar with, he well versed in. Being given the title of Lord feels unfit in his eyes. Mimir and Freya make the comment to spend time with the people.
‘Help them grow and they will see you as a simple man.’ So here comes Kratos now helping with hunting and building and carrying trees for new lodgings and skinning furs and on the rare occasion gifting wood carved figures to the children in his quiet moments.
It cements for the people that he’s simple when Atreus returns. The villagers swear Kratos actively dropped a log in, albeit, quiet haste to greet his son in a hug and pat to his back. He’s grown taller now, a few new scars here and there and so many stories to tell.
To the people Kratos is simple. Yes he’s done amazing feats, lifting trees and massive bucks, fighting off the monsters that terrorize the unsuspecting, and leading the realms during Ragnarok. But here they see a simple father and son rejoicing in meeting once again, and they think of him all the more greater for it.
More higher, he’s a good man at heart under all that stone and tough stares.

hi sweetie, how r u?? i see u are new here, so welcome to tumblr!! 💕
btw i did see too that you are accepting request for god of war and i wanted to make a request for whatever is easier to u (headcannon or a drable). i just wanted to see how would kratos treat a reader with dad issues (platonic!!!!).
oh, and if u don't fell like writing it, fell free to ignore! :)
(and im sorry if u can't understand well what im saying, english isn't my first language)
kratos × reader w dad issues (platonic)
warnings: daddy issues?
note: hi honey, i understood you perfectly, no judgment, english isn't my first language either! this is my first request, so i'm very thankful and excited. hope you enjoy, and i hope i met your expectations. if i misunderstood your request, let me know, and i'll change it ♡♡
let's start of with saying that kratos totally understands your issues, having a complicated relationship with his father himself, he isn't one to judge
kratos first met you in the woods behind his house, you were just a scared girl feeling alone, atreus begged him to take you in and he hesitantly agreed
and let's just say, since then, he had another kid to take care of
you never really made his journey harder or caused him any trouble, so he not once regretted his decision
at first he was cold, kept you at a distance and didn't give you any attention, however you guys grew really close in very little time
he never really noticed your daddy issues, sure, you always waited for his opinion after doing something, and clinged to him like crazy, but he just thought that's your personality
he noticed how you copy him, and look up to him
he caught you a few times, holding his axe and imitating his attacks, it felt nice, that you want to be like him so much
there was a time that for a week straight you only responded with small grunts and short sentences, you also tried copying his angry face however instead of looking mad you just looked cute
you really looked up to him, seeing him as your father figure and protector
always looking out for you in a fight, taking care of you when you're sick, making you feel really safe
you also absolutely loved any praise or affection that you recieved from him
sometimes doing more than necessary just to see him nod and say some kind words to you, making you instantly light up
one night when he took you training, you managed to shoot all three aims perfectly, causing him to mutter just four words "well done, i'm proud"
and you started crying
kratos confused, turned around quickly to see you with tears falling down your eyes, clinging to his leg (since that's where you can only reach) and thanking him a million times
he just gently patted your back and stood there akwardly, not knowing what to do
not moving for a few minutes, you managed to let out a quick sorry and started explaining that's the first time you felt so appreciated
telling him about your father, who never gave you really affection or attention, no matter how hard you tried
you also explained, how he was the one that left you in the woods, for apparently missbehaving by losing his knife
kratos listened to you let it all out, and slowly hugged you, noting to himself to give you more attention and praise
he wanted to give you everything your father couldn't, even though he can't be really considered a perfect one
kratos proved his caring for you using actions, however mimir was the one with words
whenever you had a problem that man did anything to solve it, and honestly you really were thankful for having such amazing two fathers

Atreus has three dogs, one of which is a giant who can go literally anywhere he wants. Yes, technically Kratos presumably takes care of the other two while Atreus is on his journey, but consider…
Atreus has finished his long journey, finding all the giants and preparing to find them all new homes, new bodies, but first he wants to go home. He misses his father and Mimir, wants to tell them of the journey he’s faced so far. So, he does. He’s so happy he hugged by his father, to jump up and wrap his arms around his fathers neck and be squeezed gently. He grins so wide it hurts when he sees Mimir, happily starting to talk about ally he things he’s seen when suddenly-
“Mwuur?”
Jumping onto his fathers shoulders is the most majestic looking cat he’s ever seen. She’s small, fluffier than any other animal, and as white as the skin of his father. Her eyes are pure blue, striking and almost unnerving. Her long tail brushes against the back of Kratos’s head as the sweet little lass rubs her chin against his beard, her favourite scratching post.
What surprises Atreus the most though, is when his father lifts a large hand up to carefully pat her soft ears, causing a purr so loud he recons Mimir could feel it.
At his curious eyebrow raise, his father gives as good as an explanation as he can expect from him, “Found her. I have named her άσπρο. It means white, in Greek.”

freedom. | quest for tyr [III]
Tumblr media
[main page] | [t.o.c] | [spellbook] | [ << | >> ]
young adult!atreus x reader
-> synopsis: The only times you had ever experienced adventure was through your books. It was hard to live an exciting life while trapped in Alfheim.
You know you're meant for something greater than wasting away underground.
[loosely based on the events of Gow: Ragnarok]
-> chapter warnings: all chapters contain spoilers, cursing, anxiety, vomit mention, fighting, fight scene not accurate to canon, blood, injuries, trauma mention
The day before was nothing compared to the pain you were in today.
Just opening your eyes was a task that seemed to take all of your energy, and your body was so stiff that the smallest movements hurt. Breathing, speaking, literally anything seemed impossible as you slowly sat up the next morning.
Atreus was by your side the second he heard you curse under your breath, gently helping you up and handing you a plate of whatever leftovers were scavengable from the night before. You ate slowly, listening to him, Kratos, and Mimir formulate a plan for the day.
"Earlier, I saw a mine down below, and Mimir saw tracks to another train we could take down there. Hopefully it'll be just as safe as the last one," Atreus smiled at you reassuringly during his last sentence, remembering how much you hated them.
You pursed your lips and side-eyed him. You were appreciative of the gesture, really, but heights just really weren't your thing and an old contraption that had your death written all over it didn't help.
You didn't take long to get back to traveling. You didn't feel like holding the trio back from anything they wanted to get done just because you were a little hurt. You could grin and bear it.
The pain was almost worth it as you saw more pretty views on the mountain top.
"Father..." Atreus interrupted the peaceful silence. "What if a war with Odin isn't just Tyr's to fight? What if it's ours too?"
"War is not the only way." Kratos responded.
"But we're gods. Better gods. We're trying to stop Ragnarok, to help people, and what if the only way to do that is war?"
"Atreus."
"I'm just not sure we should immediately jump to that conclusion." You said a bit nervously, "My home was— and still is— torn apart by war. It's not something you really want, especially when you've experienced it."
"Wh— I thought you were on my side!" Atreus whined, turning to you as he continued to walk backwards.
"I'm on your side with stopping Ragnarok." You shrugged, "I just really, really want to look for any way that doesn't involve war. It's not fun."
Atreus continued to argue with you as you came upon the rest of the train tracks, but you knew it wasn't a serious thing. He had a playful glint in his eyes— one he had often when he decided to mess around with people.
You watched in almost awe as Kratos lifted the train and realigned it on the tracks. It amazed you how he barely broke a sweat— he must have been an incredibly strong god.
Atreus was the first in. Then Kratos and Mimir.
They looked at you expectantly and you shuffled your feet, looking to find a solid way up into the creaky, wooden cart. You really, really didn't want to go in.
A hand appeared in front of your face.
"Here," Atreus helped hoist you up, keeping you steady as the train car squeaked once more under the added weight. He remembered your apprehension and patted your shoulder. "We'll be fine. We don't have much farther to go now."
"The Kraken hatchling gave you a stone." Kratos pointed out as the train began moving. His voice was a good distraction from your incessant urge to look out the window and scare yourself even more.
"The Kraken...? Oh, Dinner. Yeah, it's covered in algae. I was thinking we could show it to Brok and Sindri when we got back. Here." Atreus tossed it to his father, who pocketed the stone. "Okay, we came looking for Tyr because we don't trust Odin, right? If you think about it, war could— uh oh—"
The train became shakier and shakier, it's noisy wheels creaking even louder. You stand up in a panic, frantically looking over at your companions, but they look just as confused.
A creature— a Grim, you recalled— grabbed onto the window ledge closest to Kratos, trying to scratch its way inside. Kratos quickly punched it and sent it flying, but there wasn't much time until another Grim appeared in its place.
You swallowed your nerves and raised your spear, using the butt of it to knock out a Grim from the window on the other side.
"Skjalfa!" You cried, sending them out just as quickly as they were coming in. You wanted nothing more than to use your favorite little fire spell, but with a wooden train like this you knew you'd probably set it on fire too.
"Atreus, look for a brake to stop the train!" Mimir called out, "Should be a lever of some sort!"
"I found it— but it's stuck!"
"Try harder!" You shook out your hand as you hit a Grim that had actually made it through the window. You grabbed it and threw it back out, hitting two others that threatened to enter and sending them all back.
"I'm trying! But— it's—"
The lever broke in two. The handle flew out of the window you were guarding.
You all could only stare at each other for a moment before the train began to fall— the one thing you prayed to the Nords wouldn't happen.
"Shit." Atreus grabbed your arm and pulled you between him and Kratos, presumably to shield your fall or protect you from the rest of the Grim. "Shitshitshitshitshit—"
"Ow!" You yelped as you hit the ground.
Kratos was up before you could even fathom what was going on. He pried at the opening at the top of the train, climbing out and yelling out a rough "Get up!" before taking out his axe and disappearing from your sight.
He reached back down once he returned, grabbing both you and Atreus and setting you down on top of the cart. You were definitely put down more gently than Atreus, but you wouldn't point that out.
"I can't believe we surv— are you serious?" Atreus was frustrated now, more Grim coming from seemingly out of nowhere to attack you.
You whipped around to survey your surroundings, choosing to stay further away from the heat of the fight. The headless troll that laid to your right told you what Kratos had done earlier, and you silently thanked him for making things easier.
You pointed your spear at Grim that tried to tag-team Kratos or Atreus, choosing to save your magic energy and use some Dark Elf skills. An energy beam shot out from the tip of your spear, slicing the unsuspecting Grim in two.
This continued for only a few moments longer, then you finally could drop your weapon. You still held onto it tightly, though, still on guard. You jumped down to rejoin everyone.
"That was crazy." Atreus breathed out.
"You said it, little brother."
"That was awful." You shuddered. "I hate heights. I also now hate trains. I knew something was going to happen."
"You jinxed us, then!" Atreus teased, "You can't sit there and think bad thoughts and then expect good things to come. You gotta look on the bright side."
"I didn't jinx shit." You mumbled, watching as Kratos looked around for where to go next. "I was looking on the bright side. I felt like I was going to pass out, and if I was unconscious at least I wouldn't feel it when I died."
"That's— that is not what I meant. Just, come on, I think Father found something."
It was a small crawl space, which all things considered could be either better or worse than falling off of the side of a mountain on a train.
Atreus went first, then you, followed by Kratos. You noticed he always took up the back— probably to protect you both from whatever may sneak up behind. Smart.
"Quite the mouth you had back there, lad." Mimir broke the silence.
"It's just a word." Atreus rolled his eyes. "I've heard way worse from Br-"
"The word does not matter. You lost control." Kratos reprimanded. His voice was always stern, but this held an even harsher tone.
"We were falling. Through the air." Atreus defended, "I thought we were gonna die." He gestured to you, "She says it all the time!"
"She was not raised the same way you were. What is acceptable for her is different from you. Is that truly what you wish your last words to be?"
You were glad that was Kratos's view, because the second Atreus brought you into it your heart seized. You did not want to get scolded by Kratos.
"No." Atreus gave up arguing. You thought that was a wise choice.
"In moments of crisis, panic does nothing. Harness it. Let it serve you."
You let his words sink in as you came across another area, this time finally in the open. You kind of wanted to laugh— Kratos wasn't even talking to you, and yet you held onto his words more than you'd ever held onto your own father's. Kratos had a lot of wisdom, but Atreus wouldn't heed it.
You figured it just be a father-child thing for you and Atreus to never listen.
"What is this?" You looked around the area in a bit of awe, taking in the wooden structures and water wheels around you.
"The Jarnsmida Pitmines, lass." Mimir answered joyfully, as if he was reminiscing on something. Probably some memories that he has in that infinite brain of his.
"Look on the ground. Tracks." Atreus pointed out, "They must lead into the mines."
"And what exactly is in these mines?" You stood beside him, eyeing Kratos once more as he studied the area. It seemed like every place you went to had some gods-awful puzzle just to make it through and it made your brain hurt.
"Hopefully Tyr." He smiled at you, and you pursed your lips into a half-smile in return. Your adrenaline was wearing off and the impact from the train crash made your injuries from the Dreki feel brand new again.
You took a deep breath, only being able to inhale so deeply, and nodded. "Hopefully. I just want him to be here and us not just find another clue and be on a wild goose chase."
"This is a super prominent mine, I'm pretty sure. If he's anywhere in Svartalfheim, he's gotta be here."
Atreus's words did little to comfort you, but you couldn't say much as Kratos summoned him to help with a mechanism to open the mine.
You reached into your pocket and toyed with a piece of paper— the one Sindri gave to you before you left. You didn't have time to read the rest of the spells he had written down for you, so you pulled it out to scan over it.
You already knew the three first ones, even if you hadn't gotten to use most of them yet: 'Logi: fire. Sverð: sword. Verja: defend.'
Turning the paper over, you saw three more spells written down in neat handwriting— characteristic of Sindri.
'Iss: ice. Kanna: search. Ausa: water.'
You hummed. One of these spells was not like the other. Every one of them seemed self-explanatory, except for Kanna. What could it mean to search? Would it help you find something?
Folding the paper back in your pocket, you took a deep breath and closed your eyes. You felt like you'd have to have an idea of what you were trying to search for, so you sent your intentions to something simple.
You'd ask for it to find anything with magic in it.
"Kanna."
You waited for a second. You waited for something— a feeling, a voice, a tug, anything. Assuming nothing had changed or you'd done the spell wrong, you opened your eyes only to gasp out loud.
Everything around you was covered in a very, very translucent light blue. You looked around— the weapons on Kratos's back glowed a bright blue, much more opaque and noticeable than the blue that spanned the rest of the terrain. Your own spear emitted the same light, as did the palms of your hands where you felt the burn when you did your fire spell.
Atreus's bow was blue, and so was Mimir's head. Small rocks that blocked entrances glowed as well— rocks that you or Atreus could easily use Skjálfa to destroy.
Ah. Kanna did work.
And from the way Kratos, Mimir, nor Atreus said anything about the sudden shift in color from the original terrain, you could assume you were the only one seeing it.
You whispered the spell under your breath again and slowly, the blue hue faded from your vision. The mines were restored to their normal, dull brown color.
'Kanna.'
Your intention this time included living things— bugs, monsters, whatever.
The blue crept back into your vision like a rapid flood, but this time the brights were different. You could see Kratos and Atreus shining brightly as they worked together. Mimir's blue flickered a bit, but it made sense. Was the decapitated cursed head really alive?
You could see little glowing dots shining through rocks like x-rays, showing you where all the little bugs hid underneath.
More brights caught your eye as they moved towards Kratos and Atreus.
"Guys, watch out!" You called, "Logi!"
Fire erupted from below the feet of the monsters. You were able to see them easily with how they shined against the rest of the area.
You were aware of many more, but this was starting to hurt your eyes. You turned off the spell and rubbed your eyes. They felt sore— sunken in deep and dryer than usual. You'd definitely have to use this sparingly, or risk a massive headache.
Kratos and Atreus quickly took out the few Wretches that threatened them and as soon as it began, it was over.
The three of you— plus Mimir, but you really couldn't figure out if he counted as a full person or not— stood in front of a crane, watching water flow through it. A large wooden box blocked your path to the next ledge of land. Your hands were on your hips and nobody spoke, trying to find something to help you get across.
"Looks like the water powers the crane that's keeping the cargo up." Atreus pointed out.
"Think freezing it could stop the water?" Mimir suggested.
You quickly held out your hand, aiming it near the end of the crane where the water flowed out. "Iss!"
Ice crystallized in the middle of the flow, encompassing part of the crane in cold fractals. The water built up on the other side of the crane and began to pour out of one of the sides, effectively stopping the flow from hitting the water wheel that was beneath it. The cargo box lowered and you made your way across.
"When did you learn that trick?" Atreus asked as you continued to push forward, coming across the next stupid little platform of puzzles.
You shrugged. "Just got a little help from some people."
"Atreus, Y/n, come."
You headed towards Kratos, who assumed a squatting position near the next contraption you came across. Atreus automatically stepped into his hands and was hoisted up onto the wood, and then it was your turn. You assumed he wanted you to do the same, so you quickly followed and hoisted yourself the rest of the way up.
You explored the area for a minute, Atreus straying away from you for a second before he spoke up. "Father, there's a gate up here heading towards the entrance to the mine. If you can get up here, we'll need your help lifting it."
"If..." Kratos mumbled under his breath.
"Oh come on, you can jump that! Your knees aren't that bad."
"Atreus." Kratos warned. He used his axe to freeze a water flow that was causing a platform to move unstably and jumped across.
"I hope you can make that jump!" Atreus joked again and you elbowed him in the side. "Hey!"
"Give the man a break." You laughed.
Kratos soon joined you both and you headed towards the entrance of the mine. It was covered in debris and a gate that seemed quite heavy. Atreus was right about needing Kratos's help.
"I sure hope Tyr is here..." He mumbled.
"Atreus, we seek information." Kratos reminded him. Atreus rolled his eyes.
"I know. Stop acting like I'm trying to start a war."
"Yet you do not say otherwise--"
"Brothers, maybe we can lay this to rest a bit, eh?"
You were thankful for Mimir's interjection. It was always awkward to be in a a group with two people arguing, but it felt a bit more powerful between Kratos and Atreus. They were both very prominent, strong presences and you knew enough about them already to know that neither of them were likely to back down should the conversation get more heated.
Kratos was right-- you didn't want to start a war. Atreus had told you numerous times that war wasn't his intention, but once more Kratos seemed right to you. He wasn't denouncing it very hard. He may be against the idea of a war, but he wasn't taking many precautions to truly prevent it.
You continued on in silence, helping out if needed but mostly staying in the back. This wasn't your journey— you were just lucky enough to be allowed to tag along. You did what you were asked, including helping Atreus push back a cart that blocked the way to the mine, finally revealing the rest of the entrance and—
"Sindri?"
The dwarf waved awkwardly, as if he hadn't just appeared out of nowhere for the second time in Svartalfheim. "Got something else for you." He waited until you all were near to continue. "Since you're currently lacking a light source--sorry-- and have no way of seeing exactly what untold horrors lurk in the dark, these will help."
"Thanks for making me feel better." You mumbled under your breath. Sindri gave you an apologetic look before pulling out three... things.
"Okay, back to your exploring now. Off with you."
"Thanks Sindri," Atreus commented, "What, uh, do you mean by untold horrors?"
You were wondering the same thing, but Sindri gave no answer. You all put away the light sources that he had given you and turned back to where the dwarf stood, but he was nowhere to be found.
"How does he do that?" You tilted your head.
"No idea." Atreus sighed, but then turned to you and grinned. "Let's get going. It looks like the actual entrance to the mine is blocked, but there's gotta be another away."
"This way." Kratos began moving.
"Nice. Not a dead end. Let's see where this goes."
You jumped down from a ledge into a deep pit-like area. A few Wretches came from the shadows, but you all were able to quickly cut them down. They were nothing more than a nuisance now-- this weird lizard things were so annoying.
Atreus used his bow's sonic vibrations to break a few rocks to reveal a crawlspace. You internally cringed at the tight quarters. After being locked up your whole life, you didn't necessarily want to be trapped again in something even smaller. Nevertheless, you followed after Atreus with Kratos once again taking up the back.
"It certainly smells like we're headed into a mine." Mimir piped up.
"I think I can hear the water too."
"Slow down, Atreus. Take care. Be ready."
If Kratos had a bad feeling, then you did too. Especially once you heard the loud, gurgling roar of a monster when you crawled out of the space. The area you were in now was rather open and spacious, save for the pillar in the middle, the numerous Wretches that seemed to swarm around your feet, and the giant... creature across the room that grew angrier by the second.
"What the Hel that?" You grabbed your spear and held it across your front.
"It's called a Bergsra." Mimir answered, his voice echoing through the cavern as Kratos took out a few Wretches.
"Its like the Grim if Thor decided to procreate with them." You huffed, kicking a Wretch that decided to bite your ankle. "Ugly and huge."
The Bergsra did not like your analogy and yelled out loud enough to shake the cavern walls. You watched as Kratos landed his first hit against it, and decided to join in on the fun. You ran towards it while Kratos distracted it, but you must have severely pissed it off when you called it an offspring of Thor. The Bergsra turned toward you and knocked its head back, lurching a giant green blob out of its mouth in your direction.
"Verja!" You quickly yelled out. Defend.
Light emitted from your non-dominant arm-- the one that wasn't holding your spear-- and you instinctually held it up as the blob came closer. It didn't hit you, instead exploding across the large bronze shield you had managed to conjure.
You looked at your arm in surprise. In hindsight, Verja was a lot more self-explanatory than you'd expected. Especially considering the spell next to it-- Sverð-- was literally sword.
Another green blob was coming your way. Kratos had been knocked back for a second and Atreus was attacking from long distance, so the Bergsra's attention was once more turned towards you. In a split decision, you rushed towards the creature and it's blob, using your shield to hit the poison back at it. It hit the Bergsra in the face and it roared out in pain, clawing at its face.
Kratos was back up and threw his blades towards the Bergsra's back. They latched on and he propelled himself forward, kicking it down and landing on top of it. Using his bare hands, Kratos grabbed the head of the monster and twisted. It came off in a loud, gruesome snap and you had to look away from the scene just to keep your breakfast.
The Wretches stopped attacking as the Bergsra was killed and crawled back into the little nooks and crannies that they came from. And it was over.
"Ugh, the smell these things leave behind is so gross." Atreus groaned.
"A small consequence for disturbing their home." Kratos replied. You tilted your head at how he almost  humanized them.
"...Let's keep moving."

*Loki & Sigyn are getting ready to go on a date when they hear a knock at the door*
Loki: Oh that must be him!
Sigyn: Oh, who is him? Did you manage to get a baby sitter you trust around the boys.
Loki: Of course! He's a old good friend of mine, I trust him with my life~
Sigyn: your life hmm~?

Hoenir: Hello you two, it's good to see some familiar faces around here!
Sigyn: Hoenir?! I haven't seen you since our wedding day!
*Sigyn hugs Hoenir while Loki pats his back, happy to be reunited. Then two heads peak out from behind a wall nearby*
Hoenir: oh by mimirs head! Are those two..?
Loki: Yup that's our boys and the two rascals you'll be looking after tonight-
*Loki is cut off by Narfi and Vali running up to Hoenir and wrapping themselves around his legs. Hoenir smiles and ruffles their hair*

Olden Times. Modern Thinking.
(Heimdall/Modern!Reader)
Summary: You know things you’re not supposed to. You behave oddly. And the way you speak is even odder. Kratos, Mimir, and Atreus have no idea if they should believe your ramblings of another world and of a future they have no way of knowing is real. But, you seem harmless enough. Plus, Faye may rise from her grave if they let a poor woman freeze to death in their forest, right outside their home no less.
~*~*~*~*~
Chapter 1
You woke up cold and alone on the forest floor. Not remembering how you came to be here at all. Last you remembered was going to sleep, passed out in your work clothes on your uncomfortable couch. Your abysmal day at the grocery store dealing with rampaging customers leading you to not care if you were still wearing your bra and sleeping in uncomfortable jeans. You just needed rest. And rest you did. Until you felt a chill run through your body and pierce your bones. A cold you’ve never felt before but payed no mind to as you blindly tried to grab your pink Kirby throw blanket you kept on the back of the couch, for this exact purpose. When your hand touched nothing but air and landed in a cold wetness, you jolted up.
Snow. Snow was everywhere. Giant birch trees surrounded you as well. Your body started to shiver involuntarily. You peered down at your black graphic t-shirt and blue vest and realized the snow was starting to melt slightly. You immediately shot up and patted yourself down. Not wanting to be wet in this type of weather.
“What the fuck is happening?” Your breathing started to turn harsh as anxiety and fear gripped your heart. You spun around in a circle trying to orient yourself, but it was hard to do when you had absolutely no idea where you were. And how you even got here was even more concerning.
“Oh god, What do I do? What do I do?” You whispered to yourself. Trying to come up with a plan, with SOMETHING that might help you here. But your mind came up blank. Panic. You were panicking. You looked down towards your hands and saw the tips of your fingers start to turn blue.
“Fuck. Ok, come on (y/n) think. Find shelter. Start a fire. How the fuck do I start a fire!?” Your mind raced with ways to help your survival but you were never one for camping so you came up with zilch. But then, from your right you heard something. Talking? Oh my god, people! They’d have to help you! You forced your frozen limbs to walk towards the voices. You couldn’t feel your feet. Your tennis shoes being buried in snow as you walked.
“Hello! Please I… I need help!” You shouted towards the voices. You see a small fire as you approached the fence. It was made of white birch limbs. Your knees shook as they gave out. Your hands shooting out to grab at the fence. But instead you pushed it inwards and landed on your face. Why did it feel like this cold was actively trying to harm you? Like the winter snow wanted to bury you alive and seep the life out of you? Like it was… alive.
“Father, who is that!?”
“Be on your guard. We don’t know who or what that may be.” You looked up as two figures approached you. Figures you’ve seen before. Those voices. You’ve heard those voices before as well. But for now, you needed out of this goddamn cold.
“Please, it’s so cold.” Atreus approached you and helped you up. As he held you in his arms he realized just how severe Fimbulwinter could be for mortals. “Father! She’s freezing! We have to help her.”
Kratos grunted before asking for your name and how you came to be in their forest. You gave it. You gave it all. In a stuttering and discombobulated mess, but you tried your best to sound honest and friendly. You did not want to pose yourself as a threat to these men. These Gods.
“Well, that is quite interesting if true lass.” Mimir said from Kratos’ belt.
“I’m telling th… the truth I… I swe… swear!” You look up at him. Hoping to portray your innocence through your eyes. After all they are the window to the soul, are they not. “Father, she’ll die out here if we don’t help her.” That statement shook you to your core. And you realized just how truthful it was. If you did find a way to survive in this cold by yourself, what of all the creatures and monsters that lurk in this world. You’d die out there. Alone. You look up towards Kratos one last time. “Please.”
“Can you carry her?” He asks his son. Atreus just nods as he picks you up effortlessly as they made their way back to their cabin. The winter finally seeped into your mind as you slowly drifted to a dreamless sleep.
“Mimir.”
“Yes lad?” Atreus looks towards you sleeping peacefully in his arms as he was instructed to lay you in Kratos’ bed of furs. “Do you believe her? She claims she’s from another world. Can we trust her?” He said as he turned towards his father, who was adding more wood to the fire.
“Odder things have happened in this world. I believe her. But does that mean we can trust her? Only time will tell.” Kratos hums in agreement. He knows all about how strange this or other worlds could be.
“Well, I think we should trust her.”

faye deserves scars and wrinkles just like kratos methinks. also shes taller than him
[id: four drawings featuring characters from god of war: ragnarok. the first drawing is an upper body shot of faye, who, compared to her ingame design, has more wrinkles, a big scar over the bridge of her nose, and a smaller scar at her hairline. she is looking off to the side, smiling slightly, her hands on her hips.
the second drawing is of faye and kratos, standing next to each other. kratos is noticeably shorter than her. faye is grinning mischievously, one hand over kratos' head as though patting it. kratos has his arms crossed, looking very unamused.
the third drawing is of poorly drawn sketches of atreus, speki, svanna, and fenrir. they're all staring at the viewer with big tbh creature eyes. fenrir has to crouch in order to be in view.
the final drawing is of fenrir happily running along, his tongue lolling. the impact of his steps causes kratos, freya, and mimir, who are sitting around a table playing cards, to go flying into the air. they seem completely oblivious to this though. speki and svanna are curled up nearby; speki is dozing off, but svanna is staring at the others with wide eyes. freya is casually saying, "go fish". end id]

This is my first bullshit but I just had to get this off my chest somewhere-
Okay so do any of you remember that one scene from Big Bang Theory where Penny was very surprised and happy that Sheldon was hugging her and went, "Leonard look- Sheldon's hugging me!" Yeah that but it's you and Kratos.
.
Atreus and Mimir would already be aware of your not so small crush on Kratos and you'd try your best just understanding and trying to not cross the god's boundaries.
One day you do something for Kratos that would really just impact him quite a lot, maybe almost even get yourself hurt. Kratos is grateful so the big man carefully with a tiny bit of uncertainty hugs you.
You're there very surprised and very shocked but at the same time smiling like an idiot. You then gently hug him back with light pats on the back and you turn to Atreus and Mimir with the dumb smile on your face and just go, "Guys look- Kratos is hugging me!" as if you managed to tame a wild tiger.

Chapter 9, Chapter 11
------------------------------------------------
You felt like you were in the warmest hug you’ve ever experienced. Your eyes fluttered open to be greeted by a wood ceiling. But… the last thing you remember was the feeling of cold air whipping against your skin. Confused, you turned your head and were met with Kratos’ worried expression.  You smiled at him. God, he was so beautiful.
“Hi.” You greeted him.
“Hello.” He responded, looking into your eyes.
“What’re you looking at me like that for?” You questioned.
“Like what?” he raised an eyebrow slightly.
“Like you care about me.” You stated.
“I…I do care for you.” He wondered if you thought the opposite.
A big smile spread across your cheeks, “You’re so sweet.” You slipped an arm out of the covers and lazily patted his shoulder.
Kratos was unsure how to respond, so he didn’t.
Atreus had been observing, but he needed to gossip with Mimir about this. He pushed himself off the door frame he had been leaning on and headed to the table to get Mimir then head to his room. Both you and Kratos turned your head to watch Atreus leave.
Kratos stood up, “You should get some rest. You fell unconscious.”
“Mmmh,” Some flashes of memory came back to your mind, “It takes a little longer for my brain to get back to normal than the rest’a my body.” You explained to Kratos.
“I see that.” He stated, turning to leave you to rest.
“Wait… Don’t go.” Your smile had faded into a pout.
Kratos stopped and turned to look at you.
“Stay with me?” You asked. You felt safer when Kratos was nearby.
He took a moment to think. It had been a long day, he could use some rest too. He closed the door to the bedroom and walked over to his bed and sat down on the edge.
A small smile crept back onto your lips, you were becoming more aware, but you still felt loopy. Like the cold had frozen your brain and it was taking time to thaw out.
Kratos set down his weapons and took off his armor. Seeing this sparked the memory of seeing his backside earlier. You let out a small chuckle at the thought of it.
“Is something funny?” He questioned, his voice quieter than normal, probably due to it being later in the evening.
“You ask that a lot.” You observed aloud, closing your eyes as exhaustion was creeping up on you.
“Mh.” He couldn’t deny that.
You yawned and turned over on your side, “Just was thinkin’ about your butt.” You admitted, due to your drowsiness.
You could feel yourself about to fall asleep. “G’night.” You mumbled before giving into the arms of sleep.
Kratos was left with many questions. Did you mean to say that? Did he mishear you? Why would you be thinking about his butt? He sighed and laid down with a soft grunt. He stared at the ceiling, thinking about what you said, and also what Atreus had said to him.
He soon came to the conclusion that he was mistaken. Atreus was mistaken. You were a friend, like Mimir, or Brok. A feeling in his gut panged to let him know what he was trying to tell himself was a lie. But, if he could just keep telling himself this, maybe it would become true.
The next morning you awoke to find Rana still laying on top of you. You smiled and gave him head a scratch. You sat up and noticed there was four blankets over you. The memories of yesterday evening came to your mind.
“Shit.” You cursed yourself in your head.
Maybe you didn’t talk about his butt out loud… Maybe you said it so quietly he didn’t hear… You could only hope. Rana hopped off of you so you could get up, the room was empty, but you could hear distant chatter. You opened the door and walked out to see everyone sitting at the table eating breakfast.
“Aye! There ya are!” Mimir greeted you.
“Good morning.” You smiled and walked over to the table and sat down.
“How are you feeling?” Atreus asked you.
“I’m good! Completely back to normal.” You responded as you got some breakfast. “Thank you, Kratos, for getting me back here.”
“Mh.” Kratos gave you a slight nod with his grunt.
“Yeah! Father was really worried about you.” Atreus chimed in, “He got you blankets and didn’t leave your side all night.”
He could feel his father’s eyes glaring at him.
Your cheeks flushed pink, “Really?” you looked from Atreus to Kratos. Your stomach filled with butterflies at the thought of him caring for you so much.
“…Yes.” Kratos reluctantly confirmed, “What do we need to repair the protection stave?” He changed the topic, looking to Brok.
“Welp, we got most’a the tools, but we need a ring.” Brok explained.
“A ring?” Kratos questioned
“A ring, that’s supposedly found deep in the rotten crotch pit of Muspelhiem.” He specified.
Kratos grumbled.
“You need to go to bottom level of Muspelhiem and uhm… ‘walk through a wall of fire’ according to my sources.” Sindri chimed in.
Kratos grunted again, but longer this time.
“How are we supposed to do that?” Atreus said, a tinge of defeat in his voice.
“I’m hoping it’s a figure of speech, lad.” Mimir tried to comfort him.
Kratos stood up from the table, “After you finish eating we should head out.” He announced to both you and Atreus.
You nodded at him, getting some more food and continuing to eat.
“Before you go, we’ll whip up some armor for ya.” Brok offered.
“Really?” You looked at him, “Thank you, that would be great! I don’t have much money, but I’m free for any favors!” You assured him.
“Ah, don’t worry ‘bout it.” Brok insisted, “Yer boyfriend let us know you’re low on gear. Wonder how he figured that out…” Brok mumbled the last sentence.
You opened your mouth to set the record straight, but you were speechless and embarrassed. Your face turned red and you looked down at your plate, “I-… he’s not… It’s not like that.”
“Sure it ain’t.” Brok wasn’t buying it as he hopped down from the chair, “Just need yer measurements before I can start. Unless other men ain’t allowed to touch ya.” He teased you and further.
You sighed in defeat, “It’s…” Brok didn’t seem like the type to let go of things easily, so you gave up, “It’s fine.”
Brok chuckled as he headed over to the workshop and started gathering some materials.
You glanced at the other men sitting at the table, hoping this wasn’t something everyone believed.
Mimir noticed your discomfort, “Don’t worry, (y/n). He’s only pulling your leg.” He attempted to settle your mind.
“Good…” You said a little too quickly in defense, “Because, that’s just silly. Nothing like that is going on.” You deflected further.
“Yeah! Yeah, we know.” Atreus nodded, but then gave a glance to Mimir.
“…Excuse me.” You said as you got up from the table in defeat and headed over to meet Brok.
