What’s happened to Taiwanese BL lately? Apart from Kiseki which was amazing I haven’t liked any of Stay by my side, Be mine or VIP only (and the next one is about falling for a robot, wtf!) is it because these are all from the same company? Are any good Taiwanese BLs coming up that you know of? Please give me hope!

That said they have never had a very good batting average. It's what I'd call accurate... but not very precise.

Upper left: Thai BL

Upper right: Japanese BL, Vietnamese BL

Lower left: Taiwanese BL

Lower right (these days): Korean BL

To be fair Taiwan has always been this way. Not a lot of BL, and what little there is only one or two will hit home in any given year. It's just those home runs tend to be pretty darn spectacular.

They don't announce much ahead of time, like Japan, so the only thing I have on my radar as a definitely coming in 2024 is the robot one, Anti-Reset, and I don't have much faith.

In 2022 they announced God's Military Officer, which I was excited about. But that went nowhere.

In 2023 Pray in Love was rumored, which I find very intriguing.

And I'm hoping Wishing Upon the Shooting Stars gets made because it features adult characters and an interesting domestic-centered story premise.

But my most anticipated for 2023 from Taiwan was The Only One, because, well STEPBROTHERS TROPE. I'm thinking it's a Taiwanese version of Addicted, paused because of China's remake last year. But I'd WAY rather Taiwan tackled it so... this is the one I really hope actually does happen in 2024.

But anything announced for a year and then not made in that year I try not to get my hopes up.

Back on my addicted bullshit again and LMAOO 💀 literally nothing makes me laugh harder than in episode 9 when Jin Lu Lu fights with Gu hai and Bai Lou Yin convinced him to chase after her.

(Translation: Yin Zi…. You know right now, I only listen to you?)

(Translation: Gu Hai, out of all the times we’ve fought, this is the first time you came after me.)

It’s one of those moments (+together with me) that really made me realize I absolutely cannot watch bl’s where one of them have a girlfriend and a REALLY CLOSE bestfriend LMAOO it’s ridiculous. Because HUH??? At least in Together with me the girlfriend was evil but in here it is really just Jin Lu Lu realizing that her spot as Gu Hai’s “exception” is being taken up by Bai Lou Yin. You can see it especially in the way she asks for Gu Hai to hit Bai Lou Yin and Gu Hai extreme reaction to just the thought of Bai Lou Yin being hit not only by him but by anybody really touches a nerve with her. Ahhh what a fucked up drama this was 💀

This however in no way stops me from enjoying the shit out of this drama 💀

people are so uncomfortable with drug use and addiction that they will just completely strip it from their discussion of jesse as a character. they cant reconcile their affection for him with their deeply ingrained disgust for drug users. like they cant conceptualize that this very sympathetic, very human character they love is also an addict because Addicts are subhuman and Bad People. its just so emblematic of a total inability to see real life drug users as actual humans with complex lives and emotions that people will straight up act like jesse getting into the meth business was some wacky coincidence and not because he was a meth addict who was making and dealing meth to other users for the explicit purpose of making money. he can be ur special little guy and a drug addict who relapses several times and sells drugs to other people and makes awful decisions because of or in tandem with those things.

as a recovered drug addict and activist, i always find a lot of leftists will support all kinds of bodily autonomy until you say “i think people have a right to do even heroin safely, legally, and cleanly, no not just decriminalization or the needles but like, it’s OK to literally supply people with heroin. and give education on how to properly inject, smoke, and snort it” that’s the ultimate test

Oh yeah that's a good test! I am very much pro drug use and pro decriminalization - and no, I am not just talking about weed and some harm reduction measures. I'm talking about not punishing ANYONE for doing ANY drug, people in active addiction to scary illegal drugs very much included. I'm talking about making ALL drugs regulated, safe and available through legal means. I don't care how "unhealthy" and "bad" drugs can be, turning a debilitating illness into a law enforcement issue literally ruins lives and kills people and it's not actually helping anyone recover from addiction.

Like even if a person is addicted to heroin or another "scary" drug, what we as a society could and SHOULD do is make sure that the heroin is as safe as it can be, and that he has the resources and knowledge required to prevent infections, injuries, overdoses and other serious health risks, and that relevant rehab, treatment, support and detox programs are available to him if/when he decides he wants to pursue them. Punishing him as a dangerous criminal for being an addict isn't going to shame him out of addiction, and that approach is genuinely far more likely to literally kill him than to actually solve the issue
