30 days of Never-vember!
It’s November! And just like last year, I was thinking about posting a list of NWN/NWN2-centric general prompts for each day in November! (Get it? Neverwinter + November? Never-vember?)
This year we’re doing TWO lists of prompts. Yes, two - one list for each game! Feel free to do one, or the other, both at the same time, or even switch between them. This way, those who are unfamiliar with some parts of the games can still contribute something for that day if they wish. They will also have some of the same prompts for the same days, since those specific ones are generally applicable with their own potential meanings in each adventure.
You can write the prompt. You can draw the prompt. You can do a combination of both. Comics? Hell yeah. Everything is welcome!
If you decide to do these, please feel free to tag me in each one you do so that I can give you reblogs.
This challenge is not in the least bit binding and it is by no means an obligation or a contest - you can do few, you can do all, you can even do only one day if you want. It’s entirely up to you!
Prompts listed below (take artistic license in interpretation if you need):
Never-vember NWN1:
Day 1: Describe/draw how your character was recruited for the Academy
Day 2: Describe/draw how your character came to Drogan for adventure training
Day 3: Describe/draw a typical day at the Academy, pre-massacre
Day 4: Describe/draw a typical day at Drogan's adventuring school pre-Kobold attack
Day 5: First impressions
Day 6: Fenthick's Fate
Day 7: Brutal truth
Day 8: Meeting Aarin Gend for the first time
Day 9: Encountering Deekin the first time, compared to encountering Deekin a second time
Day 10: Fish out of water
Day 11: Family
Day 12: Your character or a party member is caught red-handed! (By whoever you like, doing anything)
Day 13: Drogan's sacrifice
Day 14: Aribeth's doubts
Day 15: How would your character like to command Mephistopheles, given the freedom?
Day 16: Sanctuary
Day 17: Changing fate
Day 18: A significant moment in your adventure described or drawn entirely without dialogue
Day 19: Confrontation
Day 20: If you and your character switched places for a day
Day 21: "I didn't know you cared so much"
Day 22: Your character’s relationship with their god, or gods in general
Day 23: A moment of anguished helplessness
Day 24: Your character's thoughts or attitude towards Lord Nasher
Day 25: "Just in case we don't make it-"
Day 26: Denial
Day 27: Comedy relief
Day 28: Trapped
Day 29: How your adventure(s) should have really ended
Day 30: Free space! Write or draw anything you like!
Never-vember NWN2:
Day 1: Describe/draw who taught your character, or was a major influence on them growing up
Day 2: Your character's best moment in the Harvest Fair
Day 3: A welcome surprise
Day 4: The "good old days"
Day 5: First impressions
Day 6: Two companions and/or your character forced to get along
Day 7: Meanwhile, back at the inn...
Day 8: Fire
Day 9: Unconventional hero
Day 10: Fish out of water
Day 11: Family
Day 12: Your character or a party member is caught red-handed! (By whoever you like, doing anything)
Day 13: Betrayal
Day 14: Unexpected middle ground
Day 15: A magical mishap affects someone or everyone in your party!
Day 16: Sanctuary
Day 17: A moment or moments your character felt something was just too much for them
Day 18: A significant moment in your adventure described or drawn entirely without dialogue

From the Letters of Dreken Meyer, Day 1
Father, would that I have heeded your words.
Waterdeep was and will still be my ancestral home, this is true. And your tower in the astral sea was always an incredible place to visit, when you would allow me. Know that my leaving was never because of you.
It is just... Your incredible tales of heroics, from the ancient Netherese city to Undermountain captivated me. They always have, even when I feighed disintrest! I longed to go on a journey of my own. I didn't want to be 'The son of the great hero who banished Mephistopheles Using His True Name and Great Prowess And Short Stature" as Master Deekin always put it. I wanted to be a hero in my own right!
But now it's gone horribly wrong.
I don't know what drew the Nautiloid to me. Removing your protection charm certianly didn't help, that much I know. They attacked Master Tomi and I on the road, and Father, I'm so sorry. I don't know how the Illithid ship did it, but I know Master Tomi died instantly.
I was taken aboard and infected somehow, Father. Some kind of tadpole. I think, though, the ship was attacked. By Githyanki! I know you told tales of the hero of the Mere of Dead Men, the Shard-bearer encountering them, but they are so much more terrible and awe-some than I thought possible. One of them was infected with me, on the ship. We also found a cleirc of some kind. Her prayers and outfit speak of Shar, but I know from your teachings that the Gods are... Multifaceted, and their followers even more so.
We ended up in the Hells. The Hells, Father! The very place you banished the Frozen Lord himself back to! I believe it was Avernus, the location of the blood war. If I'm being honest, I hope I never go back, at least not for a long time. There was enough magic and heat to make me sore in every muscle I have, although that may be the infection.
The ship crashed, and now I'm on a coast somewhere. If the coastline matches my memory (which you know is perfect), then I beileive myself to be somewhere close to Baldur's Gate.
Your adventures with Master Drogan always seemed like it started so much... quieter, than this. I hope to write more when I have the time.

Kobolds in the Closet {Closed RP w/t deekin-scalesinger}
Post!HotU                      Canon!Verse                   Based on this drabble Splattering of rain, fat droplets hitting her cheeks and nose as she walked. It was early evening, lanterns swaying in the wind. It wasn’t cold, nor stormy. In fact, it was pleasant, a welcome break from the summer’s endless heat. But beneath her hood, Dhana could not stop to enjoy the downpour. She had finally mustered up the courage, after thorough discussions with Elithrar, to seek out their kobold companion.
Supposedly the little guy had found himself a foothold in Neverwinter, a small shop in the Merchant’s Quarter. He had done well selling his book of their adventures, enough to become relatively self-sufficient. Upon reading his latest letter to Elithrar she had swelled with pride. To think, that frozen, terrified creature in the snow – chasing haphazardly after her and Dorna – was the same individual now…was incredible.
Now I just need to man up and face him. Eli is determined he will understand. Its likely all my overthinking but…I still feel dreadfully guilty…even now.
“Your memories of him should assure you, Dhana. He cares about you, even now. Always asking for you, about you.” The elf’s smile made her toes curl, she felt so pathetic, like a child needing reassurance. “Besides, you won’t know unless you speak with him. My words are only that, unless they come from Deekin directly, you will never fully believe it.”
The cleric really had a way with words. He was as wise and kind as their late master, though far more handsome.
Upon turning onto a cobbled side street, the mage paused, glancing from sign to sign. Sepia eyes hesitating upon one with an iron plaque, a small quill, ink pot and scroll etched into it. It matched Elithrar’s directions. Heart thumping in her chest, she took a deep steadying breath.
‘This is Deekin, Dhana, not Heurodis with a hangover.’
Forcing herself forward, the blackette crossed the street in a matter of strides. Fingers curled around the door handle and, with a low groan and a clear sound of a bell, she stepped inside.

☺ {{-silently squealing at thought-}}
☺my muse helping your muse fall asleep
It had been a long time since he had slept outside the shelter of solid walls, Elithrar thought. Below them, the sky was clear, the sparkling stars promised a cooler night. Of course, they could have gone back to the academy. But the journey was long, and the snow made it difficult to progress. And then they no longer had crystals of focus. Elithrar should have shown more foresight. But reprimands now were useless.
Under the shelter of the tent, he felt on one side Deekin, on the other Dhana groping against him. Sighing, he adjusted the blankets, pulling on them the two bearskins that he had managed to transport. The smell of the beast that emanated from it was not so unpleasant, in the end. Even if it was not frankly what he loved.
He felt that none of them were sleeping. But the cold was not the only one responsible, he suspected. He also wondered what the others were doing. Dorna and Xanos had gone to explore the Nether Mountains on their side. Perhaps they had returned. As for Mischa, she had to watch over the academy. The elf doubted however that she had a better night than them. The fact that Ayala was also there relieved him a little. These and many other questions were circling in his mind, preventing him from reaching a state of calm sufficient to rest.
But the question remained: was Master Drogan going to recover? He turned again, also unable to find sleep. He found himself nose to nose with Dhana, her eyes glistening in the darkness.
‘You can’t sleep?’ he whispered. ‘The young woman shook her head, her eyes bright and her throat knotted. Her expression saddened him. Elithrar took his hands out of the blankets and whispered some words he thought he had forgotten. It’s been so long…. He didn’t expect it to work. And yet, three small luminous globes appeared. One was purple, the second yellow and the last pale blue.
Deekin uttered a small squeak of surprise and stood up to watch the globes spin around Elithrar’s hands. “That’s a nice thing!” The elf smiles a little at Deekin’s reaction.
“When I couldn’t sleep, my mother….” Elithrar paused and contemplated Dhana, his pale face illuminated by the dim light emanating from the spheres.
“You have hidden your talents as a magician from us! Xanos would be surprised,” she says, shared between fun and the desire to ask him more about his “skinny” arcane talents.
“It must be pretty much the only spell I can throw. Not enough to shadow the great Xanos”.
Dhana chuckled, while Deekin tried to catch one of the sphere. His clawed hand closed only on emptiness, the globe escaping him. The sun elf smile at that sight and said:
“I can’t promise you that everything will be alright…Even if I would love to.”
He made a small pause, as the lightning pulsed between his hands, dancing around it wrists.
“But we’re doing the best we can. Master Drogan prepared us for anything and I’m pretty sure he was also aware of the potential perils. I’m sure he will be ok”.
The silent took place again, as Dhana smiled. It was a small one, far from her usual large grin, but Elithrar still count it as a small victory.
“I may take your word on it.” She frowned then her face relaxed again, but her expression remained serious.
“I hope we’re enough to what’s lie ahead”.
“We have to”.
“Deekin thinks great adventurers need their beauty sleep” said the little kobold, while he yawned. The two students laughted a little at his wise words. They remained for a moment like this, contemplating the peaceful light that removed their respective worries as well as some of the shadows of the night. Then, the lights faded as they finally fall in Morphe’s embrace.

Sometimes I really want to read a short summary of what to expect from a game with a very particular description that CATER to my OWN SPECIFIC interests, so here we go.
what to expect from NEVERWINTER NIGHTS: HORDES OF THE UNDERDARK
You don’t need to play the original campaign at all, but you will need to play Shadows of Undrentide, as you will play as the same character and it this is a direct sequel
DnD world, almost isometric rpg, you can play as any DnD fantasy race and class, female or male
You are an adventurer apprentice who ended up, now, in the underdark, in the kingdom of drows
drows civil war, you’ll need to find the drows rebel who don’t want to rule the world
go down in literal hell to take the power away from the evil drows
SATAN??
Deekin is back and he can be your companion
Valen is your other companion but he doesn’t really trust you… still, you are a female character you can romance him
names are important!
a lot of dead soul, a journey literally in the world of the dead
Aribeth from the first game is back!
plot? investigative work to find out what the drows are doing and stop the drow invasion gameplay? classic almost isometric rpg, DnD based fights characters? Deekin and Valen are the main ones, Valen is well written, and some secondary characters are ther etoo sadness level? low (but it’s been a while since I played this)

Fanfiction writers appreciation post
Tumblr media
I thought about sharing some of my favourite and much loved fanfiction works that i’ve read lately. Some of them humorous, some more serious, but all of them left a huge imprint on my mind, helped me work through some of my deep-seated issues and brought me comfort and joy. That is a mark of quality literature to me, even if it will never be published and printed. So without further ado here are:
Dragon Age:
‘Invicta, Invictus’ by @loquaciousquark        https://archiveofourown.org/works/5736415/chapters/13218469 (FHawke/Fenris Tevinter magisters AU, friendship to romance, adventure).
‘How to happily harbor a viper in your midst’  by Sattar https://archiveofourown.org/works/1015027/chapters/2015647 (FHawke/Fenris friendship to romance, comfort, psychology, humour).  (sadly, unfinished)
‘Damned Spot’ by @pikapeppa https://archiveofourown.org/works/17710157/chapters/41780090 (FHawke/Fenris, friendship to romance of course, modern Thedas AU,). illustrated by wonderful @schoute
‘Flight of a Hawk, Return of a Wolf’ by  RedHawkeRevolver https://archiveofourown.org/works/1258807/chapters/2591650  (FHawke/Fenris Tevinter magisters AU, adventure, romance, intrigue, dreams, incredibly sweet romance, Fade, there’s everything there!) I did some illustrations for this one!
‘October and April’ by  Roarkshop https://archiveofourown.org/works/1143666/chapters/2314874 (an interesting twist on FHawke rogue and Fenris’ romance).
‘Sunrise, Sunset (Or How Do You Say Sod Off In Tevinter?)’ (updated) by AkiDragonwings https://archiveofourown.org/works/2348693/chapters/5180153 (if you like long dialogues, heroes engaging in deep, 2 chapters long,  philosophical discussions, weird humour, layered dream sequences and psychological studies, then this long fic is for you! Ilove it to bits)
Neverwinter Nights:
‘Into the Shadows’ by Nastrandir  https://www.fanfiction.net/s/4797557/1/Into-the-Shadows - a great adventure long fic following the plot of Neverwinter Nights HotU (Hero of Waterdeep and Valen Shadowbreath, Deekin. Hate to friendship to romance).
‘The Smell of Destiny’ by DarthAmmonite aka Ursula Vernon aka T.Kingfisher, a published fantasy writer  https://www.fanfiction.net/s/3319947/1/The-Smell-of-Destiny (unfinished gem of fiction, featuring parts of NWN2 main campaign, a certain snarky elven lawyer and a sarcastic Knight Captain, Shard Bearer, etc. etc.)
Enjoy!

Monster of the Month - Kobolds
Tumblr media
We're rolling into June by examining one of my favorite littlest monsters in D&D - the kobold. As always, a big thank you to Scott "K-9" Fabianek for the awesome original art.
I must admit that kobolds were a monster that never interested me much when I first started running D&D. They didn't seem to have a cool roleplaying hook, and there were other monsters that were much more challenging and interesting to me, like orcs. It took a classic Dragon magazine article to change my mind - the infamous tale of Tucker's Kobolds. You can read this excellent article reprinted at https://media.wizards.com/2014/downloads/dnd/TuckersKobolds.pdf and I highly recommend it.
Third edition brought some interesting evolutions to the story of the kobolds. They were now related to Dragons, generally worshiping Tiamat, and often serving dragons, even if the dragons weren't entirely willing to be served. This is exemplified in the adventure "The Sunless Citadel" and the character of Meepo, the forlorn Keeper of Dragons, who has lost his very willful and unwilling charge. This NPC has probably given kobolds a better reputation than they deserve, along with Deekin, the kobold bard from Neverwinter Nights.
An examination of the basic kobold stat block tells us two important things - they don't like sun, and they fight better in groups, due to Pack Tactics. A perusal of the description tells us more - they are cowardly creatures. They make up for their small size and weakness with traps. They are tunnelers. Sometimes Tiamat grants them wings. All of this makes fun fodder for writing a kobold lair.
I would begin by taking advantage of their small size, making their tunnels Small, to give larger creatures a disadvantage. If the majority of players are crawling and squeezing, they are not going to be at their best. I would also take the idea of them using natural hazards as traps, giving them a few spots where green slime or brown mold might be present, or even dropping a hornet's wasp on the players. A combination is good, too. The hornets come out as an angry swarm of insects, but, when the PCs wizard tries to use burning hands, they discover the nearby patch of brown mold.
Kobolds also make very entertaining NPCs. In my campaign, due to an ancient pact, Kobolds maintain the infrastructure of the human city of Estwald. Kobolds muck out the sewers and keep an eye on places that evil might appear. The humans had no idea of this arrangement until kobolds helped warn my PCs about Yuan-Ti that we're taking over places under the city. Now the city is again holding up its side of the agreement, and the PCs have been dealing with the dubious gratitude of the kobolds.
Two of the interesting elements of 5e kobolds are their missing god and the fact that they can be player characters. Back in 1e, Kobolds worshipped a god called Kurtulmak, but, with their more draconian nature in 3rd and later, they worship Tiamat. Wizards solved this conundrum by suggesting that Tiamat trapped Kurtulmak. If I had a PC kobold in a longtime campaign, this would be a plot I would consider exploring, for sure.
BTW, we must say a prayer for Snaprat, the kobold thief who died recently in the fiery conclusion of the Tomb of Horrors game I was running. He was a fun character, and I'm sorry he did it survive. Stupid cursged wishing gems! Luckily, the player is playing a kobold Artificer/gunsmith called Kipup Shortlegs in another game, so, in some ways, Snaprat lives on.
I hope this article will make you take a big look at some little monsters. Kobolds are fun, funny, and a treat to play. Get them into your game, and tell me all the stories of how your players love to hate them!

Unfurling
Probably the best thing idle games do is unfurl.
Developers talking about them at game dev conferences refer to this as Paradigm Shifts - something that reframes or deepens the player’s experience of the existing content.
Let’s look at Idle Champions of the Forgotten Realms.
I’m just going to lay out processes, mechanics, and bits of play, more or less in the order a player encounters them. As they come, they change the way the game feels.
Bruenor Battlehammer explains that you can spend gp to level him up so he does more damage.
You get a familiar who can autoclick so you don’t give yourself carpal tunnel playing the game.
You get a second champion, the cleric Celeste. This reveals a third, the more-expensive paladin Nayeli. (Celeste cost 250. Nayeli costs 1000). This exponential growth of cost continues.
You unlock a position-based class feature. At this point (assuming you’re reading what’s going on) you realize you can get farther by setting up your champions in certain arrangements for maximum damage. Bruenor grants bonus damage to anyone in his column. Celeste grants bonus damage to anyone adjacent to her. Nayeli, once you get her, grants bonus damage ot anyone in the column behind her. And so on.
You complete the adventure. It asks if you want to stop or keep going for more favor. Mousing over you see that “favor” increases your gold find by a percentage. And that how much favor you earn is a function of favor (so assuming you went exactly the same distance in the game over and over, you’d be earning more favor each run because the favor you earned last run would mean you’re earning more gold this run). Whether immediately or after a few more zones, you reset. It reveals a second adventure.
Poking at buttons you find that you can spend favor, giving up some portion of your gold find but getting extra damage in return. This can let you get farther, and the gold earnings increase dramatically the farther you get into the game, so this is generally worth it (A good rule to follow is to spend less than 10% of your favor at any given time. If an upgrade costs 11% of your total favor, leave it for now).
After a few more tutorial adventures (maybe there’s just one? I don’t recall) you complete an adventure and unlock a variant. This is the same plotline but with some weird rule. Maybe extra monsters spawn that don’t drop gold, or you have to do it with one less character slot, or only heroes with strength of 13 or higher can be used. Doing this will give you favor like the regular version but also will give gems. Each variant can be done only once.
Technically you used gems to buy that first familiar, but I think the game gives you enough to buy it out of the gate? Anyway at this point you find a bunch of stuff you can spend gems on. (The shop then reveals a ton of stuff you could spend a near-limitless amount of real cash on) Among other things, you can get more familiars. This is more than just a doubling of your autoclick damage! Extra familiars automate other little things in the game for you. Gems can also buy chests, which let you fill out your champions’ equipment slots, improving their class features.
At random, as you’re doing all this, either you’ll hit a Time Gate Weekend (generally the organization is 2 weeks of Event and then one Time Gate Weekend) or you’ll find a Time Gate Piece. Or you’ll hit an event. The crux of all these are the same. You can run quests that grant extra champions as a reward. These champions take up the same slots as your starters, meaning you have to pick which one you’ll field. For instance you might get Deekin the Kobold Bard, from the old Neverwinter Nights games. He’s a slot 1 champion, so you can have him or Bruenor, but not both.
Eventually you also hit the “who do I field” question from another angle, as you get enough favor that you’re able to afford the champions in the 10th, 11th, and 12th slots before you have to abandon/complete a mission. But there are only 9 hero slots in the Brief Tour of the Realms adventure path. So you’re having to really optimize who goes with who else and where in the grid to put people.
Soon you’ve gotten so much favor you can buy a Global Blessing. While most of the blessings you’ve been buying have been improvements to your damage in Brief Tour of the Realms, this one gives an improvement to every campaign. Oh, and you have access to other campaigns.
Eventually you’ve collected enough champs that you have two or more in every slot in your roster. The game offers you a difficult mission called Split the Party, and doing it grants you a Modron Core and also the ability to just...have two parties. Basically you can play the game twice, but from a single pool of champs and familiars (this is very clever, because it means they can now also sell people twice as many familiars)
You find that the modron core has this mini-game where you can connect pipes to grant yourself bonus damage and gold find while you have it equipped. This is cute and fun! Also it gives you reason to collect modron parts.
You complete enough of Brief Tour and unlock a Patron, Mirt the Moneylender. This lets you go back through everything you’ve done before but with an extra requirement (in Mirt’s case, only Good or Evil characters are allowed, nobody Neutral on that axis) for extra rewards. He also gives a weekly quest list for his own currency, which you can use to, among other things, buy time gate pieces and modron parts.
Each hero you unlock has a kind of personal achievement. For some it’s “Kill x enemies with this champion’s ultimate attack.” For Celeste it’s “Heal 20,000,000 damage.” Each achievement you earn, from individual hero achievements to little things like “find a piece of shiny gear” to the achievement of acquiring a new hero, gives you +1% damage to everything across the board. So you’re getting better at defeating stuff basically no matter what.
So now you have oodles of directions you can go. Maybe you feel like getting as many global blessings as possible as early as you can. Maybe you complete all the variants for gems so you can buy more familiars and chests. Maybe you focus on the heroes’ achievements, making sure you’re always using this hero’s ultimate on cooldown. Maybe you try to go as deep as you can on each run for maximum favor, or maybe you try to get through the campaign faster to unlock another Patron or a hidden champion.
All the while your modron core is itself leveling up, revealing more places to spread pipes to.
And once you get enough champions you can get a third adventuring party!
Which means you can go multiple of the directions you want to go, but it also means you have to pick and choose how you deploy champions. Perhaps you figured out which combination of champions produced the absolute maximum damage output (or perhaps you looked it up in the Idle Champions Wiki or something). That’s great and all, but that combination is only usable in one of your parties. The multi-party system keeps your strategizing fresh, makes you really think about how to utilize each champion. And besides, you’ve got a Patron quest that specifically will give you ruby coins for sending these three champs into battle together, and two of them are mutually exclusive with the strategy you had planned.
Something to remember, if you’re designing a game like this, is that you don’t have to develop this much before you release it. Half the systems I’m talking about here didn’t exist back when Idle Champions first released. Time Gates were added as a way for heroes who would no longer be part of yearly events to still be accessible to new players. Patrons weren’t part of the initial release. When the game started there was only one campaign. And there certainly weren’t Modron Cores and multiple parties - That’s new as of last year.
With an idle game you can release the game and then make it deeper as you go. You can add layers after launch. This is true of other games as well - Dead Cells is still adding new levels and features - but it’s important to remember for idlers because they’re so often solo or small-team projects with very limited means.

When are we gonna get the "squeakin n'deekin show" on youtube, the awesome show of the squeaks (you) and friends just deekin around, adventure and fun for the hole family! Or at least thats the description, the hole channel is just filled with videos of some random guy eating cereal, everyday at the same hour, the same lengt, no commenting, just the guy and off-brand cereal, the only things changing from vieo to video is the backgruond music, the guy's clothes and maybe the cereal.
ha ha oh man that would be even more wild considering i do this weird thing where i feel like I'm constantly being observed/on tv all hours of the day, so to me, I'm  already in the squeak n’deekin show. which by the way? love that name. and i couldn't think of a better network to back my program.
I've tried talking videos, IVE TRIED TAKING VIDEOS TO POST SO MANY TIMES, but my dreams are always dashed by my very very poor camera equipment, so i guess y'all just have to hack the governments array of webcams to watch the squeak n’deekin show  for now
