I was rewatching Alex Strangelove on Netflix and just got the URGE to say this.
I NEED this to happen in s5 with Mike and El.
So in this scene Alex (main character) and Elliott (his crush) have finally figured everything out in their relationship and are just enjoying their school dance together.
And here Alex’s best friend / ex girlfriend Claire who’s still in love with Alex (after Alex told her he’s gay) is just looking at him and supporting him to the fullest !
SO JUST IMAGINE:
This scene but with El and Mike, DURING THE SNOW BALL.
Mike and Will are finally figuring out their feelings for each other and El is just looking at Mike and supporting him 😭💗
That would actually make me scream so loudly oh my GOD
today on skys slightly iffy comfort media: Alex Strangelove
i get that the bisexual bit was like a cop out. i get that it should have been handled better. i get that it’s a weird ass movie.
i love it.
i absolutely love that movie to bits and i will not here negative talk about it that isn’t reasonable. you have your right to be upset, or uncomfortable. you do!! but as a bisexual myself, that movie is my comfort shit. it’s so funny and cute and a little cringe but in the best way possible and ough i loveeee it! i love it!
“Don’t people just know who they are attracted to?”
“No it’s different when-.”
“When you’re gay, no it isn’t.”
Actually Claire if you would shut the fuck up and listen for a second realizing you are Queer can be a very different experience than realizing you are straight.
Some of us have spent our lives repressing who we are and how we feel.
I know you’re hurt and heartbroken but maybe shut up and dont speak about things your non queer ass doesn’t know about
2 if we are being frank, Dell should be bisexual. That dude is a dudebro yes but also he's chaotic enough the dude could be bisexual. Showing up in a monkey mask and leather jacket to drag ur friend to a frat party to cheer him up after he said he was done with love? That's. I'm just saying. As a bi person my ass might just have tried that djdjfk
I was just thinking about it and I was thinking that if I ever needed a comforting gay moment, I should be able to find it on my blog for reference.
I don’t know if anybody ever gave this movie a review but for a coming out film, I definitely preferred this one versus “Love, Simon,” personally. Particularly because of this scene :)
Some of the lines were a bit weird and outdated. like the “special ed” joke and the “nobody’s straight anymore” rant. But like i feel like it’s somewhat realistic? Not saying I enjoyed that part. But I have heard people say these kind of things. Idk it was weird.
The bi cop out thing. Actually, i don’t mind that he wasn’t bi. yes i agree we need more male bi representation. but the whole conflict of the movie was that he wasn’t sexually attracted to his girlfriend and that he was sexually attracted to a guy. Maybe he could have been biromantic but homosexual? Idk but I have no problem with him not being bisexual. maybe that’s an unpopular opinion but like. it doesn’t make sense narratively for him to be bisexual.
The main thing I didn’t like about the movie was that we didn’t get a lot of Alex and Elliot. We got like 2 kissing scenes and that’s it. After the first kiss, we don’t see him until the very end of the third act. I feel like the last scene should have been them two. Idk. The ending was fine I guess.
As for what I liked:
Alex’s obsession with animals is adorable and relatable and I love it. And i dont like claire that much near the end but i did like them as friends in the beginning of the movie.
Elliot and Alex have so much chemistry and i love how there’s a clear difference between them and Alex and Claire. Not just the kissing but the way Claire always tells him to shut up is weird and Elliot just lets him be himself.
Elliot’s room is so iconic. Also the scene where he’s singing along to the B-52s is incredible.
Alex is kinda adorable. I like his dorky energy. And i feel like they didn’t overdo it either. Like he’s not a cartoon character, he’s actually relatable.
Anyways these are just my initial thoughts a few hours after watching the movie. Tell me what y’all think.
I liked it. I by no means think this is the best movie ever or some high art but i liked it. It was a fun time.
Okay, hear me out. Alex Strangelove is marauders coded but in a very, very, very subtle way.
The first thing I noticed was the relationship between Alex and Elliot. It is so ravenrock/benpete, you cannot unsee it. The whole movie would be a story where Peter was the main character, you know what I mean? Like, Blake is the total Remus, Josh is extremely Sirius and Dell displays James. Or you can switch them and make Dell Barty, Blake Marlene and Josh James, I do not care. But Alex and Elliot are ravenrock. And Claire is Mary because maybe Peter was the closest to Mary, we don't know. So the whole movie is about finding your sexuality or at least deal with the consequences or whatever and Alex (just like I imagine Peter) just assumes that he is straight. And he denies it for a very long time. Also, Alex and Elliot seem to be like a chill couple and that's definitely a character trait of a ravenrock relationship.
(I did not come up with the ravenrock ship, I just read it on tumblr and it fit perfectly)
Alex Strangelove is VERY not safe! when the main characters are at the theatre party there is a very long, graphic, intense scene that has very very loud auditory triggers. really sad because i was really enjoying the movie and idk if i'm gonna be able to finish it 😭
