Don't Stop (Sandman One-Shot)

Pairing: Morpheus/Dream of the Endless x AFAB reader
Summary: One-shot. Reader self-insert. Smut. You and Morpheus are in the exploratory stages of your relationship. Morpheus asks to worship you, and all is going well. At least, that is, until you start to wake up...
Warnings: Minors DNI. Smut. Porn with plot. Kissing. Oral sex (AFAB receiving). Slight dominant Morpheus.
Word Count: 1.7k
A/N: So I watched Sweetbitter. With my partner. Maybe not the best idea because suppressing the squeaks of excitement whenever Tom came on screen was tough and not always 100% effective! The hyper fixation is still going strong... Hope you enjoy this one. All my love, Saskia xxx
Sandman Masterlist
-------------------------------------------------
It is only when the violent spinning not only stops but holds for several minutes after, does Morpheus make steps in allowing his guard to drop.
He straightens elegantly out of his crouching position, withdrawing his hands from the scree smattered earth. He looks to his left, to Lucienne, who is warily regarding the ground and sky, wondering if they might start to rapidly switch places again.
She meets Morpheus' gaze and adjusts her round-framed spectacles with a steady hand.
"I might be speaking too soon, sir, but I truly think it is over now."
Morpheus takes one last steely appraisal of the horizon, almost daring it to misbehave.
He nods once. "I believe you are correct, Lucienne."
"Will you be requiring anything else from me, my lord?"
"Not at present."
"Very well," Lucienne replies with a warm smile. "I will return to the palace now."
She does a little incline of the head in deference and goes to start the winding walk back towards the glowing lights of the Dreaming's seat of power.
Morpheus calls to his friend.
"I thank you for your persistence in supporting me to resolve these issues. I suggest you take some extra hours to rest."
"I suggest you do the same, sir."
Though her reply is innocuous, the knowing gleam in Lucienne's brown eyes hints at an alternative interpretation, one that Morpheus cannot help but notice.
It was becoming generally well known that he was in the early stages of courtship with a dreamer, you, and there was no doubt that Lucienne was aware of how far the relationship with you had recently gone.
He raises an eyebrow in response, earning a grin from Lucienne and then he watches her walk away.
Once alone, Morpheus allows his eyes to flutter closed as he sifts through the myriad of dormant minds and tunes into the space occupied by yours. He takes a reading of your emotions, thankful to find that you are contented and have not been rendered feeling neglected by his absence.
There's a faint undercurrent lingering below the surface level of your emotions that he is also able to lock on to given the familiarity that you share.
Desire.
They are present, filling you with neediness and longing.
A longing to be touched, to be touched by him.
Morpheus is with you in seconds, appearing in the doorway of the room you have chosen to conceal yourself in.
You are curled up in a large armchair by a panoramic window that frames the mountainous vista beyond. The torches that mark equidistant points along the bridge leading to the palace project a soft gleaming warmth over your skin. You are gazing softly at the landscape, the fingertips of one hand combing through your hair, the others trailing up and down your inner thigh.
Such an innocent yet provocative display. It makes Morpheus' voice drop to an even deeper and more sultry register than usual as he calls to you.
You are out of the chair instantly, meeting him at the threshold of the room. Your heart pumps out an allegro drum beat, the sound of the blood rushing in your ears like a waterfall.
You are pulled into a searing kiss, arms encircle your waist to ensure you are flush against his hips and chest. It is a relief that he is holding you in such a way for your knees are threatening to give out within seconds.
The power he has, in his body, his actions, through his words, in a metaphysical sense; you are helpless against them all.
When Morpheus pulls away from the kiss, you follow him on instinct, aching for more. He smiles faintly at your eagerness but maintains the gap in order to explain his length of absence.
"I must apologise, Y/N. The issue was a little more complex than Lucienne and I had anticipated."
He's looking down with a tint of shame in his aquamarine eyes.
You slide your hands up his forearms, gripping tightly and angling your head so you can capture his gaze.
"There is nothing to be sorry for. Your work and the safety of your dreamers take priority."
He simply nods. Your unwavering understanding is always on the side of overwhelming for him.
You register this in his stance.
"You feel a little tense. I can help with that if you want. Like I did last night?"
You move a hand up to stroke the hair on the back of his head. It is a form of touch that never fails to release tension.
Morpheus indulges in your attentions for a bit, leaning into you and sighing deeply, before staring at you directly with sudden seriousness.
"I cannot deny that what you did for me yesterday was beyond exquisite," He leans in to speak by your ear. "But it is my turn to worship you."
"Oh," you swallow down your surprise. "Okay."
Morpheus wastes no time in guiding you back towards the armchair and sits you on the very edge of the seat pad.
He carefully removes his long sweeping coat and then drops to his knees before you.
His rosy lips are parted, eyes dark pools, both standing out against his beautifully pale skin.
"Where can I touch you?" He asks urgently.
"Everywhere," you reply as the flutterings in your stomach warble your voice.
He begins by trailing his hands up your legs. The patterns he draws are intricate and intoxicating.
"May I have the honour of tasting you?"
"Yes," you consent, breathless already.
You remove your trousers and underwear in the same movement and allow Morpheus to adjust your position.
The image of him looking up at you with lust and intent as he parts your legs is immediately imprinted deep within your memories.
He trails innocent kisses up your left calf to your knee. A long-fingered hand is hooked under it and once Morpheus slips your leg over his shoulder, he continues his path along your inner thigh.
Wisps of his midnight hair tickle your skin and make you squirm in the most delicious way. You whimper when you feel his cool breath hit your pulsing core.
Morpheus speaks your name reverently, a taster of what was about to come.
He leans in the last few inches and kisses your vulva. You melt with an ecstasy-filled exhale. His tongue gently licks at your labia, encouraging them to part and expose your clit. He laps at you with precise strokes before sealing his mouth over the nub.
It's like a direct current has been shot into your body; you jolt into him, moaning his name with abandon.
He hums against you, lips curling into a naughty smirk. You are completely at his mercy and he knows it all too well.
He manipulates your clit between his plush lips and the pleasure reaches a higher ground.
"Whatever you do, please don't stop," you beg.
Morpheus obeys, slowly increasing and decreasing the pressure of his suckling until you are almost unable to think clearly anymore.
Then, suddenly, you are distracted by a strange feeling radiating through your body. You recognise it with immediacy. It's like you are being dragged upwards by a marionette string. You are waking up.
You stiffen, falling silent, hoping above all hope that if you stay still, you can stave off the pull back to consciousness.
Morpheus, noticing your change in demeanour, stops his attentions and pulls away.
He speaks your name in a caring tone, "Are you alright?"
You grab the arm rests in a further attempt to keep yourself in the Dreaming. The sensation isn't letting up.
You respond with haste, "I think I'm waking up. I don't think I can stop it."
Waking had been the cause of cutting short your time with Morpheus many times before. It was to be expected; you were a human being with things like sunlight and birdsong and routines to contend with. The worst had been mid-way through a conversation, one that you were able to pick up again the next time you passed the Dreaming threshold.
Right here while Morpheus was working on you so perfectly, however left you with one thought: Why did it have to be now?
Your surroundings flicker and all sound becomes warped. The support of Morpheus' body and the chair vanish.
"I'm sorry." They are the last words you speak before you disappear.
You come to in the semi-darkness of your bedroom. Your chest is heaving and wetness has spilled onto your pyjamas from the dream of Morpheus lavishing your aroused core.
Your phone is blasting out a morning alarm, its shrillness the clear root of you disappearing on him.
It turns out though, initially unknown to you, that Morpheus was having none of this separation business. That is until you notice him sitting between your splayed legs.
"Morpheus?! What are you -"
"You asked me not to stop, my dearest dreamer," he interrupts, pouring every ounce of seductive energy into the words as he can muster.
Morpheus' eyes bore into yours as he climbs up to fully straddle your body. He reaches over you to turn off the alarm with a precise tap on the screen of your phone. He takes a deep breath.
"Much better," he purrs. The pitch of his voice is pleasure enough on its own, even without the fact that his hips are subtly grinding against yours.
"Now, would you like to resume with what we were doing before we were so rudely interrupted by that repugnant tone?"
You nod.
"Verbal consent, please."
It's suddenly so hard to speak now he is in your bedroom, your domain. You hope that a clear display will be an acceptable alternative. You reach your hands down to rid yourself of your pyjamas only to have each wrist pinned either side of your head.
You gasp.
"I need to hear you say it out loud, Y/N."
Another wave of hot, stifling arousal is released between your legs. You shiver in reaction to it, to his dominance.
Your mouth is open but no coherent words leave it, just the starts of failed sentences. Morpheus comes to your aid:
"Will you allow me to taste you here, in the waking world, just as I did in my own realm?"
"Yes," you breathe. "Yes, Morpheus. Please. Put your mouth on me."
He hums his approval before lowering your shorts and beginning to feast on you once more.

First kisses with Ateez - Jongho ver.
Genre: fluff
Word count: 755
Warnings: none, Jongho is just too smooth for his own good, that's all
A/N: While working on my other bigger projects, I've decided to post another member's part of my First kisses with Ateez reaction series!! This time, the member of choice is Jongho, as I've been especially focused on him lately. Hope you enjoy and see you again soon! ♥
A/N 2: Btw, this is part of a small event I did on both this blog and my other, more nsfw one, @kp-alice! Go check it out if you're interested in some fun sub!yeosang smut ♥
Tumblr media
Now, I think Jongho is a simple man
Not in a bad way, of course not!!
He just likes to take things at a slow, comfortable pace, especially when it comes to relationships
So he would definitely be one of the less nervous members when it came to your first kiss
He wouldn’t worry about it much, deciding that he’d stress about it when it actually happened
And in the meantime, he'd want to get to know you as much as possible, resulting in many relaxed, quiet dates where the two of you would get to hang out and talk, or even just vibe silently in the other’s presence
Whether it would be at a park, at home, or at some cute and cozy café - much like right now
You were just planning on taking a short walk around, wanting to enjoy the unexpectedly pleasant weather today
But then you saw this cool hand-made artisan shop, and this beautiful public art display, and-
Before you knew it, you strayed way off your original starting point, walking through unknown streets and exploring your new surroundings
Had it been just you walking around, you would have been a bit worried by now, pulling out your phone to try and find your way back
But with Jongho, you knew you had nothing to be concerned about
He just held your hand and pulled you along, a small smile never leaving his lips as he did so
And really, this did help you relax and allow yourself to roam freely
Until you noticed the sullen, grey sky looming above you, warning the two of you that the weather wouldn’t be staying nice for much longer
You told Jongho right away, making him reluctantly agree with you to call it a day just to be safe
But not even a few minutes later, rain started falling from the sky, growing in intensity with every street you passed
This alone would have been doable, but once the freezing wind picked up as well, you were starting to question your life decisions
Noticing your wet shirt, Jongho offered you his jacket to warm yourself up, but you quickly refused, not wanting him to get sick
But Jongho obviously didn’t want that for you either
And so, after a second failed attempt at convincing you to just take the jacket because he’d rather catch a cold himself than have you suffer, he thought of a different plan
Before you knew it, you were being pulled into the nearest café, a small bell chiming above your head as you entered
You tried to protest, but Jongho just gently shushed you, tugging you with him to a cozy table tucked in a far-away corner
There, he helped you get seated before taking off his jacket and sitting down next to you
“Jongho, we really don’t have to stay here, we’re not that far from-” “Of course we’re staying. I’m freezing cold and I was wearing more layers than you. No way I'm letting you out there before the rain stops,” he quickly retorted before reaching for the menu on the table
“But,” you tried again, nervously biting on your lip as you continued, “I didn’t even bring any money, I didn’t expect us to order anything today…”
You couldn’t help but feel embarrassed, silently scolding yourself for leaving your purse at home
The entire day was going great, but now you were going to ruin it with a small, stupid mistake
You wanted to apologize, to try and maybe save this situation somehow, but then…
???
Before you could say anything, you felt Jongho’s lips on yours, effectively shutting you up
Instinctively, you closed your eyes, resting a hand on his thigh for support as you leaned in for more
Shortly after, Jongho pulled away, tucking a stray strand of hair behind your ear
“And who said I’d let you pay?” He retorted with a smile, lowering his hand to cup your cheek, “I chose to bring us here so it’s my treat. All you need to do is warm yourself back up and stop worrying.”
And with that (and a light blush blooming on his face), he turned back to the menu, skimming the drinks to find something for the two of you while you still sat there, shocked
Needless to say, thanks to Jongho, you did feel a lot warmer already.

[TS3] Smooth Patch 2.0 - BETA
Overview
Hi! Here's a beta release of the 2.0 version of Smooth Patch.
This is a script mod, separate from the main version of Smooth Patch, so ideally you should install both.
New features
CAS clothing now load way quicker, allowing you to switch between categories, scroll through clothes and switch clothes with ease.
CASt no longer disables buttons while it loads patterns, allowing you to utilize it and change categories quicker.
Buy and Build object previews now spin at a reasonable speed, regardless of your TPS setting.
CAS Audio fixes - Sim voices will no longer be sped up or paused in CAS, and music shouldn't stop at random anymore.
Semi-compatibility with MasterController CAS, most non-clothing related features should work, clothing related MC settings will mostly be ignored. Right clicking on CAS items to display a log does work, however. Working on improving compatibility.
Download
SFS / Patreon
( join my patreon to get to see my cool secret projects x )
Installation
Like a normal script mod, just drop the package into your Documents/Sims 3/Mods/Packages folder.
Tuning and Troubleshooting
If you open the package with S3PE, you will see a "LazyDuchess.SmoothPatch.Tuning" XML resource.
You can edit it to disable the CAS music fix if it makes music behave erratically in CAS for you, or to disable its compatibility with MasterController (This will make it so that if you enter MC CAS the patch won't take effect, but it will take effect in normal vanilla CAS) in case the MC support is too buggy for you.
If you do disable MC compatibility I recommend you take out the MasterController Integration package from your Mods, so that you can access normal CAS.
Keep in mind that this mod is still in beta - I still have to sort out a ton of issues with MasterController compatibility among others.
When these issues are finally sorted this package will be included in the main version of Smooth Patch.

grove magic (rolan x reader) pt. 2/2
part 1
reader is gender neutral
“Huh?” You tilt your head to the side to emphasize your confusion at his proclamation.
“The person I… I like.”
It's unclear whether you're leaning slowly towards him, or if it's the typical effect of a few to many glasses of wine. It is at this moment that you vaguely recall a teasing conversation between yourself and the three tiefling siblings regarding Rolan’s love life, and an irritated admittance from him that he was, in fact, interested in someone. You can’t help but laugh. “You’re still thinking about that?” Rolan can’t seem to do much but nod his head. Despite your response- or maybe because of it- his expression is serious. Rolan says nothing, but you can feel his insecurity seep through his skin and slip through your fingers into the open air. You could hardly believe the words you just heard, if it wasn't for the fidgeting individual in front of you. You don't realize you're staring until Rolan shuts his eyes and covers his face with his hands, quickly stammering to cover up his most recent advances. As he brings his hands up to his face, he essentially pushes your hands off of him.
"Forget I said anything. It means nothing anyhow," he says through his fingers, shrinking away from your extending hand that he didn't even realize was there.
"Rolan..."
"Really, you can disregard it. Definitively just my drunken stupor speaking and-"
"Rolan."
He peers at you through wet eyes and slightly parted fingers. You lean in closer- this time intentionally- and gently grasp his wrists to pull his hands down from his face. Once you can clearly see him- emotional as he looks- you can't help but to tenderly cup his face in your palms. "I like you back." For a moment, the silence between you two is so vast that you count each breath you exchange without realizing it. You allow your thumbs to absent-mindedly brush at his cheeks, doing away with pesky tears that track paths down his soft skin.
You suddenly feel flushed again, and this time not from your beverages of the night. Holding the sides of his face, you don't feel compelled to let go. In fact, you feel compelled to do quite the opposite: holding him a little tighter and leaning in. You can feel now the heat radiating from his skin, the soft puffs of his wine-sweetened breath on yours. It seems that your eyes flicker briefly from his eyes down to his lips, and back up to continue maintaining eye-contact with him. He nods slowly in response: a quiet and wordless conversation occurring between the two of you. You lean in further, but it's Rolan who closes the minute gap between the two of you. You can feel his hands come to rest atop your person: one cupping your jaw and another beginning to delicately explore your hair. You hum into his soft lips as his nails pleasantly and softly scratch at your scalp. His fangs nip at your bottom lip as he smiles into the kiss, making you giggle in the drunken state you forgot you were in. Upon your realization you pull away slightly to admire the tiefling before you.
You see an expression flit across his face. One that's rare to see on him, but one that you've nevertheless seen a few times this night. It's a face of uncertainty, briefly displaying all of Rolan's insecurities and hesitations in the center of his face. It's one of hope too, and longing: portraying Rolan's desperation for you to see him- truly see him- and to know him. For that moment, his confident façade fades away into the oblivion of his outward projections. You run the pad of your thumb under his eye, doing your best to calm his worries just by holding him softly.
"I..." he starts, appearing once again to be so uncharacteristically unsure of himself, "I have to say this because if I don't say it I will regret it."
You raise an inquisitive eyebrow, watching Rolan's eyes dart everywhere around the environment, consistently failing to meet your own.
"I wanted to say," Rolan starts, taking a deep yet hesitant breath. "I wanted to thank you. For saving my people and for convincing me to stay. I would have regretted leaving, in time. So thank you."
You smile as sweetly as you can at him.
"I'm glad I could help you," you offer.
"And thank you for... this," he blushes though it's hard to see.
You can't help but smile once again, kissing the tip of his nose just to watch him flush.
-----
I hope this is well liked :) If enough people like it I'll maybe write a follow-up but it feels fitting to end here.

ᯓ★ Jams and Jellies
Chapter 1: Once More to See You
Hello everyone! My name is rizzraa and it's my first time ever posting fanfiction. It's been a while since I wrote an actual story, and even then I still don't think I'm the greatest writer. If you could be patient with me, I'd appreciate that. I don't mind constructive criticism, in fact I welcome it lol. I'm not sure how long this series will last, I just wrote one day because my brain couldn't handle all this yearning and daydreaming of Joel Miller. I didn't even watch the show, it's the tlou community that got ahold of me 😭
So please bear with me and have fun with me :33
Tags: mainly fluff, friends to lovers, post outbreak, yearning and burning, slight age gap (reader is in 30s, Joel is in early 50s), reader insert, mentions of y/n, cute nicknames, overall just an imaginary scenario in my head, shy n awkward Joel, Joel x f!reader, I can't think of anything else for this chapter
Summary:
You are an eccentric and lovely art teacher, trying to foster creativity in youth and elders alike in Jackson. One student seems to have that same artistic flair as you, and it naturally draws you closer to her. Her father notices this and wants you to get closer to him as well.
chap 2
𓆝 𓆟 𓆞 𓆝 𓆟 𓆝 𓆟 𓆞 𓆝 𓆟 𓆝 𓆟 𓆞 𓆝
You stare at the ceiling as the sun's rays stubbornly peers through the slits of your curtains. You can tell that the sun is starting to rise by how bright the light gets each second. I wonder what I should do today. How can I get them to be more...just more?? It's hard trying to get teenagers to engage with school, but it's straight up embarrassing trying to beg for their attention. You have a lot of energy, you are passionate for the arts, but it seems like that's the last thing the kids are thinking about. Well, they are teenagers. But even then, I still was fond of the arts. It's not THAT boring??? It's fun....? You sighed, getting up from your bed and preparing for the day. You decided that today is the day they will start to appreciate the artistry of the world, because today you will get through to them. With this newfound optimism, you scurry off to the bathroom after realizing your bladder is about to burst.
==========
"Okay kids, today is the start of a new day! Today..we will start a new project!" You announced brightly. Since the start of the school year, you allowed the kids to slack off as a way to destress, but you realize you should be doing more to help them cope with the realities of the outbreak. And they weren't exacrly respecting your quaint classroom.
"Aw come on Miss, why are you springing this on us all of a sudden?"
"Yeah, we already got projects from other classes.."
You inhaled sharply, trying to keep your composure. "Alright listen kids, this class is supposed to allow you wind down and relax, but the way you're supposed to do that in here is through art. It's not just some hangout, it's still a classroom." You paused, looking around at the indifferent kids. "Please guys, trust me when I say this-- art is such a unique and magnificent way to express yourself. It doesn't have to be beautiful, it just has to be you."
You looked around, trying to see if you got through to the kids. Your pleading eyes landed on one girl. Ellie Miller, you thought. She gave you a small, reassuring smile. I understand you, her eyes said. You smiled back, thankful you got through one kid.
You clapped your hands, "All right, here's the project: Each of you will create a portfolio of 5 different pieces of art that represents you. You are allowed to use different media. I expect each piece to have a small paragraph explaining what it is and what your art process was." Your eyes examined the room; some kids looked interested, while others looked annoyed. You continued, "This project is due on June 1st. You will present your project. And..." You paused, waiting for dramatic effect, "I will personally select the most unique and interesting pieces to be displayed at the End-of-the-School-Year Party!" Murmurs and exciting chatter spread across like wildfire, and you mentally patted yourself on the back. "Yes, that's right, children, so you better impress me. Allow yourselves to think boldly, go above and beyond!" You giggled.
"...What if we don't have that much creativity?" One kid shyly asked. Dina, you remembered.
"Well you can come on by anytime, I'm always in this classroom until 5pm! And feel free to bother me at any point outside of class!" You replied.
She gave a quick smile, and you clocked the way Ellie peeked at her from the corner of her eyes. You were always observant of others.
"Alright everyone, get to brainstorming!" The muffled chatter and shuffling grew louder, "Feel free to ask any questions!" Hearing yourself being drowned out by the noise, you decide to stop talking.
Heh, they're finally getting it, you thought smugly. You strolled back to your desk with a noticeable pep in each step.
===========
You looked at the clock, 6:30pm it read. God, has it really been that long? You scan through today's events after you announced the project. Kids moving and talking wildly-- you practically had to kick them out of your door to get to their next class. You sighed, packing up your things and leaving the classroom. I should pick up some groceries, I don't think I have much left in the fridge. You scurried to the nearest market, tugging and pulling at your way-too-heavy bag. You roam through each aisle, getting some fruits, staring at the mouth-watering jams, before hearing a familiar voice cut through your thoughts.
"---Aw, cmon Joel. Just for a quick minute."
"No. We can't risk it."
"But---!"
"Tut-tut--- it's only been getting more dangerous out there kiddo. I'm sorry, but I won't risk it"
You shuffled the jars around and made eye contact with Ellie.
"Uh...hi again" You said nervously. Your eyes flitting from Ellie to the man she was talking to.
Your breath stutters as you finally lay eyes on the dark, brooding man standing besides Ellie. His flannel didn't mask his obnoxiously broad shoulders, in fact it framed him even better. It also didn't help that it was painfully obvious that Joel was bending down to meet your eyes through the aisle shelves, his collarbone peeking through and his eyes getting narrower. But what really drawn you to him was his gorgeous face. His smoldering, deep brown eyes staring back at you, trying to figure you out. But that didn't scare you in the slightest. His perfect wrinkles showing slightly due to his frustration only made you more attracted to this finely drawn man. His pursued lips were sitting on his face and that drew attention to the graying streaks in his mustache and beard. In fact, you started noticing the beautiful strikes of silver across each hair on his head and face. The longer you stared, the more flustered the man got. Eventually he turned away from your gaze, locking eyes with Ellie, who you completely forgot was standing there.
"Oh- I, uh- I'm sorry, it's just- I don't see you around.. um anyways.. I'm [y/n].." You embarrassingly stuttered. God, could you get any more awkward than this??? Pull yourself together, he's just a man!
"Oh well, s'nice to meet ya, Miss. I'm Joel." He nodded. You gave a quick smile and turned your attention back to Ellie, ignoring the feeling that Joel might also be staring at you a little too long. "Everything okay, Ellie? Are there any issues with the project?" You cooly asked.
"Actually, yes-- Joel won't let me venture past the gates, even if he was my chaperone."
"Well, I mean, there IS an ongoing epidemic of infectious monsters.."
"Yeah, well it's nothing I can't handle." She rolled her eyes
"What was that?" You asked quizzically
Her and Joel exchange quick glances, "Nevermind" she said, turning back to face you.
"I.. okay well, I have a garden in my backyard if you want some nature-like inspiration!" You said with enthusiasm and made jazz hands, earning a chuckle from Ellie and a slight smile from Joel. You feel odd pride and a little swell in your heart, and decide to ignore it for now.
"Yeah okay, think I can stop by this weekend?" Ellie asked
"Yeah of course honey, like I said; bother me anytime."
"She'll take you up on that offer, for sure." Joel chuckled. You looked at him adoringly, then said "If it's Ellie, it's no bother." You shot him a terrific smile that caused him to glance slightly away, and you were suddenly aware of how red he became.
"Alright--" Ellie cut in, "we're not gonna keep you any longer, teach. See ya soon!"
"Bye Ellie, bye Joel." You waved at them
You stare at the jams you pushed aside, smiling like the giddy teenage girl you once were. How far away that seemed now, after everything that happened. You snapped out of it, feeling that pain in your chest creep back up. You looked gingerly at the jams you pushed away, remembering the artistic strokes and lines of Joel's face. Oh how strong and sharp he looked. You giggled as you remembered his red face, his curled lips, his exposed collarbone, his broad shoulders. This time you didn't snap out of your sudden trance, your face getting redder at each thought you had of Joel.
Oh God, is all you can say.

The ZERO System- Why you shouldn’t let a battle algorithm determine your life goals
Tumblr media Tumblr media
-Arrival (2016)
The ZERO system is a program that interfaces between a pilot and a Mobile Suit.
The purpose of the system is to enhance a pilot’s natural abilities by increasing their reaction time and accuracy, even allowing the pilot to “feel” the response of their Mobile Suit as though it were an extension of their own body, and to provide an adaptive, real-time battle plan that suggests the most advantageous course of action based on accumulated battle data and iterative projections of likely outcomes.
How exactly the ZERO system does all this is a little unclear– but we do know that it’s open-source, DRM free, and runs off a floppy disc.
The future is the 90’s!
Tumblr media
--To start off with a quick overview, there are two mobile suits installed with a permanent copy of the ZERO system: the Wing Zero, which has it built into the cockpit, and the Epyon, which displays the system data via a flight suit helmet (technically the Epyon’s system was reverse-engineered without the benefit of the original ZERO program, but its effects are identical). There is also a modified version of the system that was utilized to coordinate the movements of Libra's mobile doll fleet– a novel use of the technology that elevated the otherwise limited AI of the Dolls to monstrous effect by giving them the intuition and oversight of a human mastermind.
Tumblr media
But! Something worth noting is that the ZERO system isn’t the only battle-enhancing algorithm for mobile suits!
In a brief but significant moment in episode 10, we learn that OZ has a machine-learning program all of its own, and it's installed on the (then newly developed) Taurus mobile suits.
“There is a problem with the Taurus. It has the ability to learn from accumulated battle data. I’d like to trust OZ’s control system, but there’s still the chance that the machine will ignore the pilot’s commands and move on its own. If the command to kill overrides the pilot, the consequences could be significant.” –Doctor J
Tumblr media
Who wrote the program for the Taurus suits? The most likely answer is Chief Engineer Tuberov, the man responsible for the Mobile Doll AI system, which is no doubt the successor of the Taurus AI. However, there was a lot of cooperation and cross-pollination of ideas between the original creators of mobile suits; Tuberov, Howard, and the five Gundam scientists were all involved in the earliest days of MS development, so it's not inconceivable that Doctor J is aware of the dangers of the Taurus’ AI because he helped develop it.
And Doctor J has good reason to consider the Taurus AI dangerous, because if it’s anything like the ZERO system, it’s the absolute last thing you’d want a power-hungry global military organization to have access to.
It’s not safe in the wrong hands; hell, it’s not even safe in the right hands. There’s a reason ZERO wasn’t installed on the finalized Gundams, and was left buried inside the files of a discarded blueprint.
- ----------------- -
The ZERO system is a GAN : it uses the data sets of previously recorded battles and the pilot's biological feedback to generate potential outcomes for a given fight, and then evaluates those results based on their likelihood and probability of success, in a zero-sum game where "success" is always defined by the total elimination of enemies.
Like all algorithmic processes, it amplifies certain results based on what data it's given and how it is trained; it's possible to use ZERO to predict the most likely, or most advantageous course of action for a pilot's future-- as long as that future is combative. And because the system is only trained to recognize Win States, Enemies, and Vulnerabilities, every future is going to be combative.
It's not trained to look for alternative solutions to combat, or make predictions about a life NOT spent inside a mobile suit-- it can only continue to generate pass/fail scenarios that lead, by the most efficient means, to the ultimate win state: the elimination of all enemies, all future enemies, all potential enemies.
Tumblr media
--Whatever the mechanism is that allows the ZERO system to interface with a pilot’s brain, it is possible for a good pilot, who is aware of the system and is prepared for its effects, to mitigate how much control the system has over their mind and body, and successfully moderate the interposition of the machine's priorities and their own-- but it takes an enormous amount of mental and physical conditioning to override ZERO, and the strain on the pilot is significant.
The ZERO system gives a pilot the best chance of success by grabbing them directly by the brain chemistry, heightening awareness, speeding up reflexes, and inducing an almost trance-like state of hyperfocus that eliminates “distractions”, and ignores any physical and mental barriers that might get in the way of victory.
Unfortunately, what constitutes a “distraction” in the eyes of the machine is not always in line with the pilot’s conscience, and what it considers a “weakness” is often the biological feedback of strain and bodily distress. If left unchecked, the system overwhelms the pilot and can make them keep fighting through unsafe levels of exhaustion and injury, and in extreme situations, over-stimulation from the system itself can cause brain hemorrhaging.
While assessing all of the potential outcomes of a given battle, it takes into account every likely scenario up to and including the pilot’s own death. It will tell you if you’re likely to die. It will show you all the ways you are likely to die. If you let it dig too far into your nervous system, it will in fact let you feel how you’ll die, pumping your adrenaline levels up to the screaming pitch you’d experience if it were actually happening.
Tumblr media
Even if a pilot is technically capable of withstanding ZERO, the psychological effect of using in the first place comes with its own insidious dangers. The temptation to let the machine ride is a powerful one; it makes you faster and stronger than everyone else, it lets you see things before they happen, it allows you to stop thinking about complicated questions of right and wrong and simply focus on the most immediate action necessary for survival and success, it takes away the confusion of competing moral imperatives.
ZERO grants a human the clarity and singularity of purpose of a machine.
For those seeking refuge in numbness, this is a soporific that allows a pilot to take retributive action against their perceived enemy without feeling, removing grief and replacing it with vindication; and for those who are insecure, or weak and hungry for power, it is fatally intoxicating.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
ZERO can only show a pilot the quickest way from point A to point B.
It does not take into account any factors besides efficiency. It does not have a conscience, it does not have external priorities, and it does not value life.
If you give it a problem to solve like “how do I win”, no solution is off the table-- it will remove any and all obstacles in the way of victory, and by far the most common obstacle is the fact that most people have things that they care about, and things they are unwilling to do.
For instance, the safety of one's allies and innocent third parties is not a parameter the ZERO system is equipped to recognize.
If using your beam canon is the most effective way to clear the battlefield but you're not using it because there's a Colony in your line of fire-- well, that's easy to fix. If your concern for an ally is holding you back from fighting without reservation, that's an easy fix too.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
- ----------------- -
The scientists responsible for creating ZERO knew what a monstrosity it was that they had built, and did not implement it in the finalized Gundams. But once it was unleashed on the world anyway, they surmised that the only way to use the system wisely was to become on one’s own terms what ZERO would have tried to force you to become anyway: a soldier with a clearly defined goal, who is strong enough and skilled enough to complete their objectives, and who has nothing holding them back-- therefore, someone who the machine could not easily manipulate.
During their time in space, the Gundam pilots are isolated, scattered, and lack a clear purpose. Their Colonies betrayed them and their loyalties continue to be used against them-- in that atmosphere, the convenience of a system that can select the most advantageous target is obvious, but at the same time, a struggling pilot operating alone is at the greatest risk of being overwhelmed by it. This is why the Doctors advise the pilots to become "perfect soldiers"-- or else, go insane.
Important Clarification: This is a “perfect soldier” in nearly the opposite sense of how the Romefeller Eyebrow Brigade would define a True Soldier! What the Doctors mean by a “perfect soldier” is simply a fighter with a clear objective and few tactical weaknesses that could be exploited.
Tumblr media
The ideal example of this "perfect soldier" is obviously Wufei:
Wufei already thinks in terms of absolutes; he acts according to the strictest assessment of who is Evil, and therefore an Enemy; he fights almost exclusively alone, relying on his own considerable strength to achieve his goal of enacting justice; and he habitually shuns any close attachment that might complicate his path forward.
It's no wonder that when Wufei pilots the Wing Zero, all the system does is confirm what he already held to be true. His goal was always to eliminate anyone trying to escalate militarism, which means defeating both Treize and Zechs, and as a slight compromise, cooperating with his fellow Gundam pilots as a team.
It’s as though Wufei’s brain was already running on the ZERO system. And since he’s already equipped to make his own tactical decisions in the field, he has no need of an external system to tell him what to do. ZERO has nothing to offer Wufei, and there is nothing for it to exploit.
But it's not just Wufei who can resist using the system: even Quatre-- who is in most ways the polar opposite of Wufei, and who at his lowest point fell prey to the ZERO before anyone realized what it was-- is eventually able to master the system. Once Quatre is armed with the knowledge of what the system is intended for and knows exactly who he has to fight, he is able to use it in a way that maximizes his natural tactical abilities, and resists all its negative effects. And upon gaining ZERO's insight, Quatre realizes that he, too, no longer needs it.
Tumblr media
- ----------------- -
So what it boils down to is this: A pilot with superior skills and a firm resolve can operate effectively without the ZERO system, and a pilot with superior skills an NO firm resolve, or with too many vulnerabilities, will find themselves struggling against it to their detriment.
Either way, it is up to the pilot to navigate the available outcomes presented by their surroundings, and choose the best course of action according to their logic and intuition-- and wouldn't this still be true with NO artificial source of input?
The ZERO system may enhance human abilities by brute force, but the processes it accelerates are already present within the pilot. In fact, it’s hardly more than a limited, mechanically-accelerated version of what the senses and nervous system do already.
Like all current examples of machine learning, it presents the illusion of an objective, autonomous process that can stand in for human input. But it isn’t a true “artificial intelligence”-- and even if it were, it would not “transcend” or replace the need for human input. It is only a means of sorting and arranging data sets that come from humans, and must be interpreted and acted on by humans, in order to have any physical effect.
--We know a lot more about the dangers of algorithms and machine-learning and automation now in the 2020’s than we did in the 1990’s, but between the ZERO system and the Mobile Dolls, I think Gundam Wing did a damn good job of illustrating them.
Ultimately, it is always a human who makes the decisions, and is responsible for the consequences. Surrendering that responsibility to a machine is not only morally reprehensible, it is in fact, not possible– a human built the machine, and a human made use of the machine, and a thousand, thousand collective moments of human decision-making led to whatever outcome the machine facilitated.
The world hasn’t yet arrived at the techno-singularity, either in the present or in A.C.195, and those who are eager to pass the blame prematurely to “AI” are usually those who wish to avoid being held accountable for their actions.
Tumblr media
Perhaps it’s no surprise that the only person to use the ZERO system for something other than combat is Treize. For the confined leader of OZ, the system is a magic eight ball to scry the future with.
At the time of creating the Epyon, the system did not show him a viable path forward, or at least, not one he considered acceptable. Treize interpreted this as meaning he had NO future, but I can’t help but wonder if he was asking the wrong sort of question for a predictive battle algorithm to answer.
...Or maybe, the answer he got was “Ask Again Later”, which, actually, would have been correct.

set maybe a month or two into Nathaniel Fogal's captivity. This is the first snippet that features Dr Elias Freid, a psychologist/therapist who is Nathaniel's main interrorgator alongside Logan.
≪ °❈° ≫
“This is Nurse Ivan Brunel, Post Sedation check on the merman known as Fogal, mer patient #3.” Ivan went through the familiar recording of medical protocol. “Due to the negative after effects of thiobarbiturates on the wellbeing and mood of the patient, anaesthesia for this set of tests was achieved using Propofol.” He snapped on fresh blue gloves as the pneumatic doors hissed open to reveal the sleeping form of the merman bound to his hospital bed. “It has been 30 minutes since the cessation of anaesthetics and removal of airway support, so patient is expected to be still experiencing significant sedative effects… And our resident mer psychologist Elias Freid is in observation bay to assess behaviours and provide therapeutic guidance if required...”
Ivan gave one last check of the monitor displaying the mermans blood oxygen, before unhooking the oxygen mask from his face and replacing it with nasal cannulas. Within moments, the sea monster’s face crinkled with the start of wakefulness at the smell of a human in the room, and he rolled his head to regard him, blinking sleepily.
“Glad to see you awake Fogal. We put you to sleep for a while, and I know you are probably still pretty sleepy.” Ivan kept his voice soft and calm, a familiar routine for waking patients from their deep sleep. Fogal murmured something unintelligible.
“I am just going to flash a light in your eyes now,” Ivan gently steadied Fogal’s head in his hand as he checked his responses. The merman’s pupils were blown wide, barely reacting to the light shone on them.
“Pupils are dilated and slow to respond to stimuli, but he seems both semi-aware and calm.”
Fogal closed his eyes and pushed his head into the palm of Ivan’s hand, chittering softly.
Ivan stalled for a second, before brushing his fingers though the young man’s hair. No - Fogal was not a young man, he was an ancient bloodsucking sea monster who just looked like a young man. And who, going from the delighted whirring noises, really liked getting skritches.
“Is this ok?” Ivan asked, more to the psychologist on the other side of the 1 way mirror than to the snuggly merman.
“Yes,” Elias’ voice came through Ivan’s earpiece, “Though still be careful with those teeth. Drugged means unpredictable. This behaviour is fascinating to watch. Even if he would not normally engage in such displays of affection with any of the staff here, it does suggest that he may exhibit this behaviour towards loved ones in a less stressful environment.” Elias was contemplative, "I wonder if he would be the same with someone he doesn’t like, say Dr Rana?” He was tapping information into the computer, the keys audible over the comms. “I mean, we know mer live in groups, so he is likely to be… touch starved. I do hope we can allow the captive mer social bonds sometime later in the project, but allowing touch when semi-sedated may be a good sign he trusts you to some degree...”
 “I guess someone really likes Propofol.” Ivan smiled softly, “It is nice to see him calm. Even if that calm comes out a bottle.” Ivan moved to stroke the top of the merman’s head, and he let out another slew of chittering squeaks, drooling effusively.
“Indeed.” Elias hummed, “Do you reckon he is going to remember this next time he wakes up?”
“Vaguely. The levels of sedative in his system shouldn’t be high enough for complete memory loss, even if they have affected his behaviour...” Ivan replied.
“Ok Fogal,” he raised his voice, and the merman focused his gaze on him, “Do you think you can describe how you are feeling right now, and if you are in pain?”
Fogal frowned comically before slurring out an affirmative noise.
“Ok…” Ivan swiped the merman’s doll out of the box at the end of the bed. The communication doll was one of the first tools Elias had introduced when he had started as the merman’s therapist, “Can you point on the doll where it hurts?”
Fogal groped clumsily at the doll’s arm, where Ivan knew the merman had a comminuted fracture to the ulna , then poked all round the top of the toy’s tail, mirroring the placement of the stab wounds on his body. All areas where he was expected to feel pain, but maybe some pain medication might not go amiss.
“Ok. And do you feel sick? or dizzy?”
A low hum for both assured Ivan that negative side effects of the Propofol seemed minimal.
 “...And do you feel like you want to hurt anyone or yourself right now?”
Fogal shook the doll’s head. Then he started to stroke the stuffed merman’s hair. Ivan had to stifle a laugh as he ruffled his hair. “Good job answering questions, I just have a few more things to do, you can just doze off if you want.”
“That was good non-verbal communication!” Elias sounded impressed, “Propofol is looking good for the retention of awareness and reduction of anxiety.”
Ivan smiled as he put on his stethoscope and listened to the steady beat of the mermans heart. Fogal didn’t mind the cold metal, concentrating instead on wiping the plush merman doll’s head against his hip, crooning gently at the soft material against his bare skin. Ivan enjoyed the quiet - Fogal didn’t always wake up so calmly, the thiobarbiturates they had been using for anaesthetics triggering what appeared to be quite intense PTSD flashbacks. He peacefully allowed Ivan to use the tympanic membrane temperature probe, check his urine output into the box on the side of the bed, and other post-anaesthetic checks.
“All done and looking healthy, Fogal. You can go back to sleep now. Can you give me the doll?”
Fogal looked up at him with watery eyes, glancing down to his doll then back up at Ivan.
“P’ease?” the merman asked hopefully.
“Dr Freid? Please advise.”
There was a beat of silence.
“Allow him to keep the doll Nurse.” There was a determined note to Elias' voice. “Unlike the previous situation where he tried to take something, the doll is not a choking hazard and has been requested fairly politely. Though this shall be discussed with Logan as his other handlers, I believe that having a possession will aid in a sense of security, and that the doll has great potential for further use as a communication tool."
Ivan gave the merman's hair one last ruffle.
"Ok Fogal, you can keep a hold of it. Now let's get you back to sleep, ok?"
--888--
Nathaniel awoke theto the heavy tread of Nurse Brunel. Memories came back in dregs. Dr Rana had put him to sleep, so they must have done something to his body, though there were no new spots of pain...
“Hey Fogal, how are you feeling?”
His hands hadn’t cramped up as much as usual. They were clamped around something soft and thick, far better than the thin sheets he usually balled up in place of seaweed. He creased his brows and held up the item as best he could with his wrist still bound to the bed.
The stupid rag doll stared back at him.
Nathaniel cocked his head in confusion, and looked up questioningly to his favourite nurse.
“We sedated you for some tests, do you remember?”
Nathaniel nodded slowly, then wiggled the doll at him questioningly.
“When I went to check on you afterwards, you really wanted to keep a hold of the communication doll there. And Elias thought it may be useful for you to have him with you anyway.”
Nathaniel looked down at the soft little plush merman. His tail was the same pleasant deep red as Nathaniel’s own tail, his sewn-on expression one of peaceful neutrality.
He squished the doll’s head gently. A strange half memory rose of petting the doll's hair, and then of gentle fingers carding through his hair. Nathaniel scowled.
What would his interrogator think of him if he saw Nathaniel wanted to keep a toy?
- I. no. need. stupid. Communication doll. - He signed, trapping the doll under his wrist to form the words.
“That’s ok too, Fogal.” Nurse Bruel spoke peaceably, “And you can let me know if you change your mind. Can you keep a hold of it while I check your eyes?”
Nathaniel nodded, and Nurse Brunel stepped forwards with a tiny bright light. Nathaniel surreptitiously shuffled Little Fogal under the sheet. He could barely see the little lump the doll made under the covers. He tucked it into the fabric and rested his hand back by his side.
“Looking good, no post-sedation signs. I can take your oxygen mask off now.” Nurse Brunel took the bulky plastic off his face. Nathaniel wiggled his jaw.
- Thank you - He signed.
“No problem, Fogal. I’ll let you pray now, and Elias will be through for a session once you are done…”The nurse glanced down to Nathaniel's empty hand next to the little doll shaped lump, and the slightest smile appeared on his face. Nathaniel watched him warily, but all the nurse did was give him a swift gentle pat on the wrist before turning to leave the room.
Nathaniel squeezed his new possession once, and settled into prayer.

missing keychain: playing detective and getting a new friend
Chapter 4 || love unlock
Amidst the unfolding tension, you exchanged a concerned glance with Yumiko. The orange-haired kid's accusation had caused a stir among the other students, and the absence of a teacher made the situation even more unsettling.
"I hope a teacher comes soon," Yumiko whispered, her voice laced with worry.
You nodded in agreement, your gaze remaining fixed on the scene. The accusing words hung heavy in the air, and the uncertainty of the situation left a palpable tension in the classroom.
As the seconds ticked by, it became clear that the absence of adult intervention was prolonging the turmoil. The orange-haired kid's anger was palpable, and the accused child seemed equally distressed. Without the guidance of a teacher, the children were left to grapple with the situation on their own.
The screen displaying the quest still lingered at the edge of your vision, a reminder of the unique mechanics at play in this world. It was as if the narrative was challenging you to step in, to actively shape the unfolding events.
In that moment, you found yourself at a crossroads. Would you intervene and try to defuse the situation? Or would you observe and allow the events to play out naturally? The weight of the decision rested on your shoulders, a reminder that even as you navigated this manga-inspired reality, the choices you made carried real consequences.
As you and Yumiko continued to watch, the urgency of the situation grew. The other students' whispers and concerned glances added to the unease. It was a reminder that, while you were experiencing childhood anew, the challenges of human interactions remained just as complex and impactful.
With a determined sigh, you pressed "Accept" on the screen, making your decision to step into the unfolding situation. As you approached the two kids who were engaged in a heated argument, you felt a mix of apprehension and resolve.
Pulling out a pair of glasses, a blue coat, and a red bow, you quickly transformed into the role you had chosen. With a playful confidence, you clapped your hands together, immediately capturing the attention of everyone in the room.
"Hai hai," you began, projecting an air of authority mixed with a hint of humor. "Let Detective Y/n handle this case."
Your unexpected entrance elicited a range of reactions. Some kids giggled, others exchanged curious glances, and the two kids at the center of the conflict stared at you in a mixture of surprise and confusion.
As Detective Y/n, you approached the orange-haired kid and the accused child, standing between them as you adjusted your imaginary glasses with a theatrical flourish.
"Now, let's get to the bottom of this," you said, your voice a blend of seriousness and playfulness. "Accusations are serious business, just so you know"
The classroom seemed to hold its collective breath as you took charge of the situation. The unexpected role you had assumed had shifted the dynamics in the room, and for a moment, the tension eased as everyone awaited your next move.
With a questioning glance at both kids, you asked, "What's the story here? Let's hear from both sides."
The orange-haired kid hesitated, his anger still evident in his expression. "He took the Keychain that my sister made for me!"
The accused child, looking anxious, countered, "I didn't take anything! He's just making it up!"
With a firm yet gentle touch, you ushered both kids to sit down on nearby chairs, adopting the role of the great detective. As the orange-haired kid's anger simmered and the accused child's anxiety remained palpable, you aimed to bring a sense of order and resolution to the situation.
"Now now kiddos, clam down and let the great detective y/n handle it" you said with a soothing tone, Your composed presence seemed to have a calming effect on the boys, and they both looked up at you with a mixture of curiosity and apprehension.
With a nod, you turned your attention to the orange-haired kid. "Tell me, what's the story behind the missing keychain"
His shoulders slumped as he recounted his side of the story. "It's a keychain that my sister made for me. It's really special to me. I had showed it to him before going to the bathroom then when i come back its was gone! He must have taken it"
You then shifted your gaze to the accused child. "And what do you have to say about this? Did you take the keychain?"
"I-i didn't take the kaychian!" He stumbled over his words but still looked you in the eyes "you can check my bags if you want!"
Your perceptive gaze remained fixed on the accused child as he denied any involvement. His nervousness was palpable, and it was clear that your words had struck a chord. Despite his insistence on innocence, his demeanor betrayed a sense of unease.
"Okay, we will do just that!" you declared, acknowledging his offer to have his bags checked. The classroom seemed to hold its breath as the tension lingered in the air.
"Where is your bag?" You asked and he nervously took you to his bag you checked the entire bag was nothing was found. Seeing that the kid looked confidence as a smirk was seen on his face.
He put his hand on his chest and said "I don't steal" at was then that you noticed few bits of rice stick on his tiny hand.
'I get it now' you smirk as you understand the whole thing.
You hummed and say "you say that but" you tailed off as you go near the lunch boxes and from the corner of your eyes you see that all the confidence he just had went down the drain.
Both Yukimi and the kid with the orange hair watched with anticipation as you approached the lunch boxes. Your confident smirk didn't go unnoticed, and their curiosity seemed to intensify.
With a flourish, you opened the accused child's lunch box, As you peered inside the lunch box, you couldn't help but chuckle softly at the sight of the rice all massed up. It was a clear indicator that something had been hidden within the rice.
With a dramatic flair, you reached into the rice, digging deeper. The tension in the room seemed to mount with every passing second, and the anticipation was almost palpable.
And then, just as you had suspected, your fingers closed around a small object. With a triumphant smile, you pulled it out, holding it up for everyone to see. There it was—the missing keychain, hidden deep within the rice.
The gasps turned into exclamations of surprise and amazement. The accused child stared at the keychain, his eyes wide, while the orange-haired kid's face shifted from shock to realization.
"Wow!" Yukimi exclaimed, her voice filled with awe.
You turned to the accused child, with a sweet warm smile You turned to the child, "A trick is nothing but a puzzle mankind came up with. If you use your head you can uncover the logical answer" you winked as you stand up and handle the keychain to its rightful owner.
The kid couldn't take it and run away running while yumiko went on about how you were.
"T-thanks a lot," the kid with orange hair stammered, a blush covering his cheeks as he expressed his gratitude.
"You're welcome," you replied with a warm smile, your role as the great detective now softened into a friendly interaction. "What's your name, by the way?" you asked curiously, genuinely interested in getting to know the kids better.
The blush on his cheeks seemed to deepen as he met your gaze. "I'm kunigami rensuke," he introduced himself, a mixture of shyness and sincerity in his voice.
Hearing his name ring a bell in your head 'I think, I know that name..' However, since the memory remained just out of reach, you decided to push it aside and focus on the present moment
"Nice to meet you, Rensuke." you said with a warm smile, genuinely glad to have made a connection with him. "I'm ego y/n"

When they arrived, Mysterio’s display was already in effect; Happy was very surprised it wasn’t real.
Peter glanced y/n’s way once more, nodding at her before slipping his mask on as he exited the plane.
Y/n could hear Peter’s voice through the earpiece in Happy’s ear, but not enough to know what he said.
She watched as he swung closer to the projection.
Happy seemed to be promising Peter he was doing -or perhaps would be doing- whatever it was Peter had said.
Y/n beamed as she watched Peter already making headway in his fight.
~~~
“You’ve come to your senses” Agatha grinned wickedly.
Y/n focused her thoughts on Peter liking MJ, allowing Agatha to only see her emotional pain and assume it was the reason she was now complying.
“I’m still worried” y/n stated, suppressing a grin at how convincing her tone was.
“Of course you are sweet child, how can I help?” Agatha said, unrealistically sweetly.
Yn glanced around the park to get her bearings but let Agatha believe it was over fear of others learning her secret.
The fact she was donning a mask worked in her favor to convince Agatha.
Her mask should be appearing to Agatha as a bland, white, scrappily made disguise; thanks to an easy image modification spell Y/n had cast on it.
But, in reality, it was a radiant azure blue; Peter managed to adjust the hue on the Stark product generator enough to match her cosmic glow coloring exactly.
Her clothes should be seen by Agatha as the same set y/n wore when they last saw each other; Yn not wasting energy or time constructing some new fake outfit just for a distraction.
Much like her actual mask, her actual outfit was azure, fit to her in a way that allowed her to move, and had discrete padding on her knees should she collapse again.
Her clothing included a contrasting dark black cloak-like item, one merging the designs of other witches; Agatha and Wanda included.
Except, the bottom inner workings of hers, the side presently resting against the back of her legs, was a shiny silver lining, embossed with swirling stitching.
“If I… if I let you have my powers, how do I know I’ll survive?” Y/n asked, hiding her thoughts as she began calling upon her energy.
“Oh hun, you have my word” Agatha said.
Not wanting to give in uncharacteristically fast, y/n hesitated.
“I did tell you the truth about your origin didn’t I? Why would I admit that but lie now?” Agatha argued with a soft voice.
Y/n knew the reason but kept the thought from her mind.
“Okay…” y/n slowly agreed.
Agatha smiled but Yn saw the evil glint in her dark irises.
As she felt Agatha’s cosmic presence reach hers, y/n whispered “pari mensura” before having her mind wander back to her unrequited crush on Peter.
She bit her lip as she kept her lips from moving and exposing her nearly inaudible spell repetition.
The pain also helped subconsciously remind her that there was a purpose behind the torture of her own mind she was doing by focusing on her doomed situation with Peter.
pari mensura
pari mensura
....
pari mensura
Y/n echoed, encouraging and directing her energy heading towards Agatha to match the force Agatha was using.
Agatha fell for the sensation, believing that she was truly pulling the energy from y/n; rather than y/n sending it to her.
It wasn’t an easy task, keeping her confidence up despite replaying Peter and MJ’s flirtations.
Let alone simultaneously hiding these underlying thoughts, her mind having to both actively think and not think at the same time.
She still couldn’t explain it, but she could feel the thoughts almost filed into different places in her brain.
She’d never compartmentalized her thoughts this way before, much less in so many different subjects at the same time for such a long period of time.
She had to pretend she was thinking about MJ and Peter but not truly think about it.
She had to hide her thoughts about her actions and newly found confidence.
She had to pretend she was thinking about how it felt to have her powers pulled from her while being sure to not truly believe the illusion herself.
It was a lot, and her underlying concerns over how things were going on Peter’s end didn’t help.
She wanted to quickly look over to see how it was coming, but she knew she couldn’t risk the brief lapse in concentration.
Especially as she already felt the ache in her head returning at her attempts.
While Agatha wasn’t truly absorbing y/N’s energy, y/n had knowingly gone into the battle on a nearly empty basis.
Technically speaking, witches had an almost infinite supply of cosmic energy at their disposal.
However, it took much more energy to produce it without thinking about it.
And even more to actively focus on something else while using it.
It didn’t help that it took practice to get to the point of being able to utilize the endless access to energy waves; practice y/n didn’t have.
She felt her eyes droop as Agatha increased her strength, somehow having noticed something was off.
Irritated, y/n wanted to scream, having been nearly ready to strike Agatha prior to this sudden detection from Agatha’s end.
Her illusion was faltering and she would soon lose her chance to strike if she didn’t quickly adjust.
Y/n attempted to once again match her force by sending her own equally balanced force back, “pari mensura”.
She hadn’t realized that she forgot to keep her voice low when reciting the spell until she saw the fury in Agatha’s eyes.
It was too late to put her defenses up by the time she saw it, but fortunately, Peter had detected it.
His spider senses had tingled in an attempt to alert him to an issue around him.
He instantly scanned the area in search of y/n, his webs shooting across the street and toward the park in mere seconds upon seeing y/n’s genuine struggle.
The signs of Agatha’s realization of the illusion soon followed his release of web fluid.
Peter squinted as he waited for the seemingly long time it took for his webs to reach Agatha.
To anyone else, it was merely a matter of 2 seconds; feeling longer to Peter due to the scene being slowed down by his ‘spidey senses’,
As the webs wrapped around Agatha’s wrist, y/N’s panicked eyes turned his way.
Peter tugged on the web attached to his subject, trying to knock Agatha off kilter enough for y/n to compose herself.
Y/n forced her legs to hold her tired body steady as she pushed back against Agatha, starting to increase her force.
She wasn’t sure how much more she could do though.
Agatha’s detection was earlier than y/n had anticipated, or perhaps y/n hesitated too long to strike.
Either way, it wasn’t going to plan and her confidence was weaning as a result.
Peter having to step in and help her despite his own battle going on fueled her embarrassment and disappointment in herself.
She knew she had to change her thought patterns if she wanted to have a chance at overpowering Agatha; she had to regain her confidence somehow.
Once her legs felt semi-steady beneath her, y/n glanced over at Peter in hopes of an encouraging smile or nod to drive her confidence back up.
However, her eyes were instead met with a burst of energy shooting across the scene and throwing Peter backward into the brick siding of the bridge.
Y/n felt a sudden force deep in her bones, it had a slightly familiar feeling to it but was otherwise an unknown sensation.
The sheer volume of cosmic current flowing through her body lifted y/n into the air.
Y/N’s spell that’d previously been masking her new ‘hero’ suit dissolved before Agatha’s eyes.
Without any hesitation, y/n let the new, stronger, faster, thicker, flow of energy do as it wished.
The only thing her mind focused on was having witnessed Agatha hurt Peter.
Y/N’s eyes fell closed as the current tore through her and shot across the park to Agatha.
Agatha howled loudly as her skin flashed blue, y/N’s energy hiting deep.
Yn pried her eyes open enough to check on Peter, giving him a grateful nod before turning back to Agatha.
She could tell if she kept going at full force, it would be the end of Agatha.
And as much as she wanted to tear her apart for harming Peter, it wasn’t in her to kill someone.
Y/n was pleasantly surprised when her energy ebbed at her unspoken limitation.
She might not plan on ending Agatha’s life, but she was going to make sure Agatha was no longer a threat.
Y/n didn’t want, nor did she think she needed, Agatha’s energy.
Even if she relished the feeling of such a strong force inside herself, she didn’t want any possibly tainted cosmic energy in her.
So, she began contemplating spells that would keep her enemy alive but deplete her power.
“Vivit et impotens” y/n stated, frowning when nothing happened.
She took a deep breath, reminding herself she could do this.
Staring at Agatha, hands stretched out to her, “vivit et impotens”.
Once again, nothing.
She racked her brain for more traditional ways to say her goal.
Chest held high, she loudly declared, “reducendus au homini”.
Y/N’s fingers stiffened as a dark aura flowed between Agatha and y/N’s hand.
She gritted her jaw as she focused on directing her own energy to shield herself from any damage and form an orb in her outstretched palm.
Within three minutes, y/n stood on the ground, holding a black and purple ball of cosmic forces in her palm.
Agatha lay on the grass, visibly defeated and weeping in sorrow over her loss; but, she was alive.
Pleased in completing her task so quickly, she gazed at the ball as she contemplated how to destroy it.
Y/n felt a sweltering heat radiating from the orb and saw the very tips of her fingernails starting to darken from the insidious and dark power Agatha’d absorbed in her attempt at managing the darkhold.
Without needing to search for the words, her mind began chanting a spell she wasn’t familiar with.
In its attempt to guard y/n and her untainted energy, her mind screamed “eliminate ab existentia”.
After five repetitions of the phrase, y/n saw her fingertips return to normal as a burst of blue energy erupted, blinding her momentarily.
Y/n rubbed her eyes and smiled proudly to herself.
However, her focus quickly shifted to finding Peter.
As she whipped her head around, her eyes landed on Peter.
He let out a visible sigh of relief and slightly slowed his approach to ease the pain in his leg.
Despite his attempts to mask his pain, y/n noticed his limp and rushed over.
Peter smiled as he hugged her, pulling her to his chest as soon as she was close enough.
“You’re hurt” she whispered, stepping back after a few moments.
“I’m okay, it’s over” he huffed, eyes checking her face for any cuts.
“Can I… May I…?” Y/n mumbled hesitatingly.
“Y/n, you don’t have to be nervous around me” Peter grinned, “what are you trying to ask?”
Y/n bit her lip, looking up at him sweetly, making his legs feel weak.
“I’d like to try a spell to help your leg” she stated.
“Is this okay?” She asked, stepping back more.
Peter nodded without hesitation, completely trusting her.
She smiled, squatting and delicately placing her right hand on his kneecap.
Her left hand shyly rested against his hip, intimidated by the intimate location.
Closing her eyes, she focused on keeping her energy warm enough to relax his muscles but not too hot to hurt him.
“Okay… lenire et confirma crus” y/n whispered, letting her energy flow from her hands into his upper leg.
Peter let out an audible release of air and Y/n felt the tension leave his leg muscles.
Yn removed her hands from his body and stood back up, smiling softly, “any better?”
Peter grinned widely and nodded, his cheeks red, “very. Thank you”.
She nodded timidly, her smile widening.
“And you? You’re not hurt?” Peter pondered, his slightly bloodstained hands cupping her face as he analyzed her skin closely.
Y/n swallowed thickly, trying to ignore the warmth of his breath hitting her face and the close proximity of his lips to hers.
“Y/n?” Peter asked, stroking her cheek just below her eyemask when he found a faint blemish.
“I’m good,” she nodded, gazing into his painfully pretty, umber eyes.
Peter blushed as he noticed how close he was upon feeling himself relax after her assure she was unharmed.
“Thank you for your help back there” y/n said, waving to the park she left minutes before.
“It wasn’t a big deal” he smiled
“Yes it was, you got hurt, because of me” she shook her head as guilt flooded her voice.
“Y/n, I swear, I didn’t mind helping” he promised, voice thick with sincerity, “I wanted to make sure you were safe”.
“Because if you I was. You helped me more than you’ll know” she hummed.
Peter watched inquisitively as y/n’s eyes began to scan his mask, left to right and top to bottom.
“The blood… your hands. You said-“ she whispered, her voice tense.
“It’s not mine” he rushed out in assurance before repeating the words remorsefully as he felt their weight.
Y/n gave him an apologetic glance, “okay. We can talk about that if you want, when you’re ready”.
Peter nodded, “thank you. I could use that”.
She gave him a timid smile, but Peter noticed she kept scanning his face.
Peter looked around before pulling his mask up and off of his head, “I’m okay y/n”.
He felt his breath hitch as she furrowed her eyebrows, the tip of her middle finger slowly sending a calming warmth to seep in through his skin as her fingertip traced a minor scratch he had obtained in his fight.
Much to Peter’s disappointment, she soon leaned back, hand lowering to her side after the scratch disappeared.
Peter lifted his hand up to feel his skin where she’d touched it, a dorky smile on his face.
“Y/n,” Peter began, his need to confess his feelings shaking violently in his chest.
Y/n sensed something hanging in the air and sucked in a deep breath.
She noticed the gentle glow of his eyes and how he seemed to be radiating nervous but excited energy.
“Peter?” She asked, trying not to get her hopes up as to what he was going to say.
There was something in his gaze that made her melt, desperately hoping she was correct in seeing the love behind it.
Peter’s cheeks were nearly as red as his suit as he gave her a lopsided smile, mentally cursing himself for not pulling it together.
His hesitation made her look around, her heart plummeting to her stomach as she locked eyes with MJ several feet behind her.
MJ hadn’t noticed them, but it was clear Peter noticed her; his lovey-dovey trance now making sense to y/n.
“Oh, “ y/n breathed, taking her time as she turned back around to face Peter, “right. Umm, you can go”.
Peter’s lips parted as he stared at her with a blank expression.
Y/n rolled the rushing energy in her, picturing the blue life source loop over itself and flow in the other direction; moving along the lines of an imaginary infinity sign.
It was a technique she’d learned years ago to stay calm.
She hadn’t been in such a soul crushing situation where she needed it in a long time.
But her -albeit brief- moment of hope over her seemingly unrequited feelings actually being requited after all drove a stake into her soul as reality emerged.
Peter rubbed his neck, his eyes never leaving her face as he tried to understand why she suddenly appeared shut down, “y-y/n..”
She shook her head, wanting out of the situation rather than letting it drag on longer.
“Look, Peter… it’s okay, really” y/n said, causing Peter even more confusion.
Before he could even think of a response, she continued, “just..”.
Y/n let the calming resonance of the energy flowing in her remind her of her accomplishments today.
She may still have been in a hopelessly doomed position with her crush, but at least she could rely on him; and herself.
Allowing her confidence to drive her towards one final courageous act, y/n closed the distance between them.
Y/n way too quickly pressed her lips against his cheek and pulled away, “thank you again for helping”.
Peter’s teeth shined as he grinned like an idiot, his face felt so hot he swore he was going to catch on fire soon.
However, as y/n walked away from him, his lips instantly fell into a pout.
Without thinking, he reached for her hand, halting her departure, “where are you going? Why are you leaving?”
She couldn’t turn back to look at him, instead squeezing his hand kindly, “she’s waiting for you, go on”.
Peter tightened his grip and tugged on her hand, pleading her to turn around and explain, “who?”
Y/n squeezed her eyes shut, wanting to tear his hand off and run until she couldn’t feel his presence near her.
Not that her currently exhausted body would even let her if she asked.
“Y/n” Peter whined, lost and upset over her sudden change in demeanor, “talk to me”.
“MJ” y/n whispered, making a resounding rush of guilt surface in Peter.
He’d forgotten y/n had known a tiny bit about his plans to act on his feelings for MJ.
Her voice sounded sad and distant to him.
Had he not noticed she was seemingly harboring feelings for him too?
How long had they been there?
His mind played back the last week, his guilt only growing as he found all the signs he’d missed.
“Pe-“ y/n began, finally facing him.
“No, please, “ Peter hushed her, his sorrowful eyes trying to lock with her irises but her downwards crooked neck prevented it.
Y/n remained silent but removed her hand from his, fingers trailing slowly across his palm, driving him insane.
“I need to tell you something…” Peter whispered.
She nodded, gaze still focused on her boots.
He swallowed, “I uhh… I clearly should’ve told you this before… or umm… well yeah…”.
Laughing softly at his own nervousness, “I like you. Like, really like you…. Not just as a friend.. I like-“.
Y/n gritted her teeth, “don’t. Peter. Please don’t”.
“W-what?” He inquired.
“I can’t do it Peter. I don’t want to hear it” her voice was stiff but he could hear the way her pitch wavered between words, “I’ve wanted to hear you say it, but not like this”.
Peter sighed, taking in the scene around them.
He knew it was far from romantic and certainly less than she deserved, but he hadn’t wanted to keep it in any longer.
If he’d learned anything this trip it was that life was unpredictable, terrifying, and short.
He didn’t want to waste any more of his hiding from his feelings.
The feelings he felt for her were far more intense than any he’d ever had towards MJ and he needed her to know how he felt about her; romantic scenery or not.
“You’re right, I should’ve -“ Peter apologized, bashfully rubbing the spandex covering his arms.
“I don’t want you to say it like this. Don’t tell me you like me when I know you like MJ, I can’t handle that” she whimpered, “certainly not right now”.
“Y/n, I don’t want MJ” he swore, his fingers twitching to touch her and pull her in for an embrace.
Y/N’s newly born confidence spoke up, “I don’t want to be someones backup or second choice. I’d rather just not be chosen”.
Peter felt a tinge of pride in her standing up for herself despite his heartache and guilt over her feeling this way.
“Y/n,” he hummed, “It was always you."
Y/N’s eyes snapped to his, anger flashing through her y/e/c eyes, “don’t pity me Peter. I can take you liking MJ. But I can’t take you toying with me. I know about your crush on MJ, you know I know about it. I told you I knew before we even left New York”.
Peter nodded, his eyes not leaving hers despite the hurt in them making him feel like he was the biggest villain they’d encountered on this trip.
“I did like MJ” he nodded, being sure to not leave much time between the conclusion of that sentence and the start of the next.
“But, I don’t anymore. Even when I did,” Peter shook his head softly, “it wasn’t the same”.
“I… I don’t follow” y/n admitted, eyes no longer displaying hurt or anger but rather confusion.
Confusion Peter could fix!
He had no problem taking however long it took to explain to her why the way he felt about her was different and far better than what he used to feel for MJ.
He would willingly go on and on about it until she understood.
“When I picture myself happy... It's with you” Peter told her, “I’ve not had that with anyone else”.
Y/n unintentionally caused a tiny whistle as she sucked air in through her barely parted lips, “…n-…not MJ?”
Peter held her gaze as he shook his head definitively, “no, never for MJ”.
She nodded slowly, still uncertain.
“I should’ve realized it that day, when you joined our school. I could sense something was different, not just about you…” he mumbled shyly, “but towards you. Sure I knew I found you attractive, but that was given”.
Y/n giggled softly as her lips curled up at the edges.
Peter blushed upon hearing his own confession repeat in his head, yet he continued for her sake, “I was too scared to approach you, and the feelings I had seemed too unusual.. I… couldn’t trust my senses at the time so I dismissed it and told myself I still had a crush on MJ”.
Y/n’s eyes scanned his face for signs of deception as she listened closely.
He sighed at his own behaviors, “to be fair, I still did. Or so I thought. Because, if this” he signaled between their bodies, “is what having a crush on someone truly feels like, I never actually had a crush on her then”.
Y/n felt a tear roll down her cheek as she took in his words.
Peter tenderly wiped her tear from her face, “y/n… I get it if I’ve missed my chance. But…There is something between us and… it is the most magical thing I have ever felt."
Y/n paused, her eyes distant as she visibly contemplated something, “ yeah, well.... you know… maybe I accidentally-“.
Peter chuckled, tilting her head towards him, his fingertips encouraging her to move face closer to his, “No y/n. I don’t mean actual magic”.
“Are you su-“ y/n worried.
“Yes, I know what your magic feels like, and as … strong and comforting as it is, this is different; better” he promised.
“So… now what?” Y/n asked, “what all does this mean?”
“Well, it’s a two part-plan. First, I'm gonna find an excuse to kiss you. The second step is asking you to be mine” Peter admitted, cheeks crimson.
“You don’t need an excuse to kiss me…” she whispered shyly.
Peter chuckled quietly, “no? Cause…You do have something in your hair, umm... Do you want me to get it out?"
Y/n wasn’t sure if there actually was something in her hair or if this was his attempt at finding an excuse like he planned to do, but she couldn’t care less.
She shook her head, her fingers grabbing the collar of his suit and pulling him closer until their lips met.
They smiled against each others lips before parting.
"Your lips are really warm." Peter blurted.
“Oh..sorry?” Y/n asked, her fingers feeling her bottom lip.
“No I liked it” he admitted, the words rushing out awkwardly.
She giggled and nodded, looking at her boots, “good….Me too, Uhh. err- the kiss, I mean”.
Peter grabbed her hand, “Wanna, like- I mean, I know the whole class is all going but ….for the flight home… maybe… We could sit together?“
Y/n nodded rapidly, gazing up at a smiling and blushing Peter.
So, her crush wasn’t doomed after all.
The trip hadn’t gone the way either of them planned.
But it was far better than they could've envisioned.
hiii so a friend of mine is gonna be running an only war game, and i've got an enginseer written up, and while i know the main trick is just maximizing my autism swag, i'm wondering if you've got any fun ideas for roleplaying a techpriest. thanks!
Sure! Here's a couple of neat ideas I've compiled for some of my NPCs that I might run in future Dark Heresy games. Feel free to pick and choose a couple to work into your character if you like them!
1. "Names are confusing" - This character has trouble remembering non-admech names, instead electing to call every non-mechanicus person something along the lines of "Meatbag," "Lapdog," "Biological One," "Fleshling," "Rat," "Annoyance," "Thing," and/or "You."
2. "Varience. of. PITCH! andtiming" - THIS admech has PROblemsspeaking in NORmal ScEnTeNcEs due to beING so UUUUUUuuused to SPEAKING in PROJECTED TEXT via ocular SENsoooors.
3. "Empathy" is an oddity amongst the admech. However, there are some that still cling to the likes of empathy and compassion. Steel may have replaced their hearts biologically, but even a steel heart still yearns for love. Maybe in different ways than the usual biological beings, but love is love.
4. "Strong silent type." Not mute mind you, they just don't have a lot to say. Instead of butting in to conversations, they tend to wait until someone asks them for something or until the perfect moment to say something (sometimes to comedic effect) (skit's note for Anar-kitty or any player that wants to go this route: be sure to discuss this with your party if you want to play a character like this. It helps to keep them in the know as it will allow them to be prepared to interact and bounce dialogue of your character. Also, while being quiet may be part of your personality, going out of your way to stay quiet even if it inconveniences your team may not be wise. Still talk, and be active out of character! Don't let your parry think you yourself are disinterested, make it a point that the character is quiet, either through stoicism, edginess, or even shyness! Describe body language or how your character may communicate non-verbally (examples: shrugging instead of saying "I don't know," giving a thumbs up to say okay, describing nervous fidgeting, describing facial expressions, etc. ))
5. "Know it all." Everyone around you doesn't know how to "properly" use technology, and it's driving you insane. No one is doing morning chants for their weapons' machine spirits blessings! Heck, most of them don't even know any rituals!! And they just. Point these poor machines at things and *hope* they work??? You need to whip these biological beings into shape! They need to start following proper mechanical doctrine, and it's your job to get them on the right path!
6. "Unknowable" You hide beneath a standard admech robe, only small portions of your body are visible, whether that be your eyes, hands, feet, whatever have you, or even none of the above! But whenever you have a need for something, you always seem to reveal it from beneath your cloak, as if it manifested from the void. Extra arms, weapons, tools, a tail, a data port, comms devices, you name it, somehow it all fits beneath your cloak, and nobody has seen your true form beneath it.
7. "Gullible" since you've been raised amongst the socially inept admechs for so long, your knowledge of jokes and saying are... subpar. You take things at face value or struggle to find meaning in the sarcastic or metaphoric. You prefer the literal meaning of what people say.
8. "[Statement]" (skit tip: look up videos of HK-47 from Star Wars: Knights of The Old Republic talking, it'll give you an idea. )
You lack proper means to adjust pitch, leaving you to talk in a constant monotone voice. As such, wanting to show your emotions, you state what they are prior to what you are about to say.
9. "Pets." You find little biological creatures "cute" even if they are meatlings. You may take some with you to places and display them proudly to your compatriots, mayhaps even if they are ugly to them or dangerous. You may take interest in replicating their design into servitors or even converting the creatures themselves.
10. "Machines are friends, not slaves." You find the company of machines to be quite enjoyable, however people seem to view them in a different light. You find this disconcerting, as your machines are your friends, and you treat them with love and repsect! Why do others not treat theirs the same way?
11. "Death is not the end." When we pass, we continue our work for the Omnissiah, either as Servitors or perhaps the Omnissiah may take favor with your devotion and grant you the honor of becoming a machine spirit. Either way, mourn not the dead, friends. We are cogs in the machine, and cogs break from time to time. But we can always repair them so they may continue their work.
12. "Utterances." You mumble odd things beneath your breath or aloud when you think nobody is listening. You constantly seem to be planning your next move, and to others, it may seem worrying. Are you planning a contingency for if they turn on you? Are you plotting a master heist to steal xeno technologies from the inquisition? Did you just insult one of them behind their backs? Are you uttering an ancient prayer beneath your breath that may bless them? The answers could always be yes, but it is more likely that you are planning to construct a new machine from their weapons when they turn their backs to you.
Little tips:
If you are playing online, consider grabbing Voicemod or an equivalent to change your voice to sound more mechanical-y! (Be sure to set up a toggle on and off button for in and out of character, and test the voice with a friend prior to playing to make sure it won't get annoying during long sessions)
Admechs benefit from being chaotic or weird; the classic "I'm crazy or unusual" bit many players want to tap into, but struggle with capturing. My advice? Paradoxically: dont go overboard. Dont try to be the center of attention. Try to be a setup for the other characters' moments instead of the other way around. People enjoy characters like Jester from CR for her chaos, but tend to forget that she largely is used to set up other people to make a joke or to cause a problem for the party to fix, while still having her own character and story that's separate from her "I'm a silly chaotic person." Here's the biggest thing to remember:
Your randomness should be a facet of your character, not your entire personality.
Stay consistent with your randomness. Develop predictable patterns. If you just keep being chaotic without method to your madness, it becomes annoying or difficult to pin down what your character actually is, and that makes it difficult to interact with them. Have boundries your character wouldnt break, and use that to create inner conflict! (Example: I want to pie my friend in the face, but he's sad from his girlfriend breaking up with him. My morals tell me that I love my friend and always try to cheer him up, but uuuuuuugh the prank would be soooo funny to me and potentially everyone else! Ooh, but it'd likely conflict with my want to cheer him up, as it'd make him mad or sadder... How do I feel about this situation and how will it affect my decision and interaction with the other character?)
Developing a pattern to your "I am a chaotic being" helps other players to compliment your character and vice versa! Jester likes pulling pranks, so eventually the Nien figures that out and starts to keep an eye out for it. Does that stop her from trying? No! But its a predictable action that can still be chaotic, while not being uninteractable or disruptful to the enjoyment of the game for everyone at the table. Running gags, pranks or catchphrases are a good place to start, then build on it the farther you go.
My best advice I give for character development, and this goes for any kind of character you run: You aren't just playing a character. You're playing on a team of characters. Try to play to their strengths as much as your own.
There we go! I modified them a bit to be more "for a character" and not an NPC, so hopefully, there will be some interesting ideas to build off of for your character! If you have any other questions or would like some more, feel free to ask! I'm always happy to be of assistance :D
Project Introduction: Text Based Monopoly Game.
Look I'm just going to be frank with you, I am not the smartest individual, nor do I have much experience programming, but what I do have is the gall, the absolute nerve to believe that I can do anything even with very little experience. Some call it the Dunning-Kruger Effect, I like to call it a gift from the All Mighty.
This led me to idea of making a text based version of monopoly with about 2 hours worth of python tutorials, absolutely no understanding of data structures and algorithms, and the help of chatgpt.
So far I have already implemented:
Adding, removing, and naming player. With a required minimum of 2 players and cap of 6 players.
Allowing players to declare bankruptcy
Added a win state when there is only one player who is not bankrupt.
Display the player number, name, and current funds.
Random dice rolls.
Allowing players to move within 40 spaces.
Display on which numbered space the player is on the board along with the name of the space that they are located.
Player automatically collect $200 when they pass go.
They can also end their turn.
What I need to implement:
Buy properties, selling properties, and collecting rent.
Morgeting properties
Buying houses
Chance and community cards.
Jail
Trading
View Current Properties
There are probably other things that need to be added for the list but for the moment those are the most present things.
My plan for the text based game is two parts. 1. Getting the game to work. 2. Is migrating and reworking the code into a discord bot which allows users to play this text based version of Monopoly their servers.
I hope to have updates coming steadily. My current focus is on implementing properties but right now I have no idea where to start or how to efficiently do it. So it is still very much a work in progress.
In dev updates going forwards I'm going to be calling the project Textopoly, once the game is in a playable state I will be posting the code over on github along with the discord bot once it is finished.
Tumbler is going to function for mini updates on my project, official and more detailed updates will be posted on my main blog (https://voidcatstudios.blogspot.com/) but those aren't coming anytime soon.
If you have read this far... thank you very much. I'm still very much a noob programmer, but your support means the world and I hope that as I get more experience and knowledge I'm able to make and share more awesome projects with people like you.
Alright then, this has gotten quite long, have a great rest of your day!
Night Sky Patrol of Tomorrow - Design, Effects, and Extra Notes.
Tumblr media
Design
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Designed and Modeled by Maydayfireball, with some touch ups from jjinomu ! I distinctly remember sending him to her and going "yeah i dunno what to do for his shoes" and her sending him back with "no shoes." so free feet pics i guess.
ANYWAY.. Some people caught it, but he was loosely inspired by the vocaloids in the "Empty" sekai of project sekai. He's intentionally fairly monochrome, so that the wings towards the end seem even more vivid. He's meant to appear a bit hopeless and messy, like he's really down on his luck. I imagine a Piko like this would be gentle, but a little sad most of the time.
Effects
There's two Big effect points for this one, so I'll go into both.
The first is the night sky. It has an intentionally painted, flat look. It's suppose to feel like the backdrop of a stage, not like a real night sky. Like he's performing, but his heart isn't in it quite yet. I added a light dust particle effect in as well to make a contrast between it and the still background to really hammer in it's falseness.
Tumblr media
And then of course, the climax.
Tumblr media
Using a flat black plane behind him, i abused mmd's transparency bug to display the artwork behind him through the wings.
Tumblr media
The wings are also directly shaped from the wings shown in the MV.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This moment wasn't just a climax for this song, but a climax for the concert as a whole. Like Piko gaining hope and a better outlook for the future thanks to those who reached out to him honestly.
Extra Notes
BOY. I apologize in advance, i have SO MANY THOUGHTS about these lyrics. If you're an english speaker, I highly recommend watching it with the closed captions on. They're a bit on the nose, even without me digging into them.
「I'm a boy who picks his battles depending on whatever suits his mood」 「No hopes for the future, I wanted to be drawn in a dream.」 「and yet I fear the future- hating tomorrow, wishing for the past.」
These are the opening lines for the song. Coming off the back of our angry streaming heart piko who longed for the past, this version of him has given up. Like there is nothing left for him to do.
「Leaving the old me behind,」 「but that night was different from all the others.」 「You took my hand...」
I like to believe, in a way, Piko would be referring to the first Piko Live Party here. Like a moment of light in a dark future, You reached out your hand and supported him.
「If this is to end as a dream, at least allow me to change yesterday...」 「I won't say anything like that, so let me keep smiling together with you, tomorrow as well.」
I've said it before, but we made the first Piko Live Party assuming it wouldn't get attention. We worked hard, but with the expectation that it wouldn't be seen by many. That's why, during this chorus, the backdrop is flat. Like a kid's play. Or, like not-quite-discovered potential.
「Even if I think that the world truly changed,」 「and even if I tried to hope or change, the future was cruel.」
The screen goes darker, and the colors become fully monochrome. It's a bit like a reality check - We're supporting Piko, but aside from us, there's not much he can do to change his fate as a discontinued vocaloid.
「Even so, the world I always watched with you was truly beautiful.」 「I still haven't forgotten that, I've placed it in my heart so I can remember.」
This is a Piko who's speaking to us from the present. I interoperate it as if he's referring to the rush of support he got, and how he'll always cherish it even if his future is bleak.
Of course, this is followed by what feelings and emotions you've given him. The colors burst forward, creating wings like the summer sky. They're a physical representation of your support and the future it's given him.
「I want to be together with you in the future, however short our time may be」 「so I'll shout "Remember this day someday in the future, whoever we are then..."」
Again, I highly recommend watching this song in particular with the closed captions turned on. It really adds to it.
I was extremely happy when Mio picked this song to cover, because I knew immediately what direction I should take this concert in at that point. I knew what I wanted to do with it from the very beginning, and I couldn't be happier with how it turned out.
I, L, and N for your ask!❤️🥰
Eee, thank you TK! ❤️❤️
Answering fanfic writer asks from this meme!
I: How many fandoms have you written in?  Do you have a favorite?
I took down some of my fics from AO3 that I was unhappy with so now I only have four fandoms on display (Horizon, Witcher, Mass Effect, Marvel) but I've also written for Dragon Age, Overwatch, and a bunch of others. I recently scrapped a BG3 project and I'm currently working on a RDR2 longfic, so... many. Lots.
As for a favourite... it's rough to pick, because I love any fandom that allows me to do ridiculous deep-dives for fic research purposes. So, most of them!
L:  Which of your fanfics was the most emotionally challenging to write?
Probably Fallen Skies. It deals with a lot of subject matter that's much darker than I've written about before, and that I felt extremely self-conscious putting to page. It also heavily centered an OC, which is something I have a hard time doing, having grown up in a time in fandom culture where OCs were generally shunned. I'm so glad views are shifting now about OCs in a lot of fandom spaces, because they're WONDERFUL. MORE OCS IN FANWORK, PLEASE AND THANK YOU.
N: Any fic ideas brewing that you’d care to share?
Currently, I'm in the process of writing an RDR2 fic that's been ping-ponging around in my head and not letting me rest. I've written so much damn meta for this game and I'm so excited to finally be able to use some of it to create something I'll really enjoy. The fic follows a Faustian bargain of sorts and involves a lot of the things I love writing about best... horror, emotional anguish, and hard choices. >:D
