A/N: ahhh anon!! thank you for this prompt! I took this opportunity to write about a lil rarepair that I've been crushing on the idea of for while. This is a lovely little snippet into how cute they could be together <3

yesterday's prompt

Her office was a controlled mess—one of the secretaries called her desk “the forest fire that park rangers were still putting out.”

Whether habit or neuroticism, Wanda Kelley always left a workspace unkempt to the untrained eye, but she knew Stacy Harewood’s fourth visit note was in the middle stack exactly five folders down. It was not a pretty system, but it was her system, and it worked well despite its appearance. So unlocking her office, already tabulating her time for notes in between morning sessions and during lunch with her colleagues, she missed the new addition to her desk completely. It wasn’t until she unhooked her purse from her shoulder and tried to place it in its singular tidy corner that she realized something else filled that space entirely. A big, beautiful bouquet of golden daisies stuck out amongst the stacks of dreary paperwork, cluttered coffee mugs, and the sporadic lines of pens. The blooms were a lively yellow, full of life and without a sign of any wilting. In the center, the gift-giver had tucked a note amidst the blooms. Wanda sighed happily, picking up the note to read it and holding the bouquet to her chest. In dark, thick-lined cursive, it read: I finally found a bouquet as joyful as you. Thankful to see you shine bright for another year (you’re putting solar flares to shame). Happy birthday Wandapalooza, All my love, Scott What a lovable nerd, she mused to herself, breathing in the fresh, earthy scent of the flowers. She still wasn’t used to how sneakily sweet he was with these little surprises, and she hoped she’d never take them for granted in the future. The day’s little stresses seemed to melt into the background as she took a moment to look forward to their planned dinner date to celebrate her birthday after work. Scott always made her feel special and that was something she wanted to make sure she remembered to toast to later. "Cheers to another year wiser and one more year in love with the best man in Hawkins," she’d say with sincerity in her heart as they clinked glasses.

“do the hardest task first”

no. just… no.

hot take: this doesn’t work for people with adhd (in my experience/from what i’ve heard from other people with adhd in my life). i recommend doing the easy/moderately difficult stuff first, that way you can convince yourself that it’s all going to be this easy and undemanding. then hyper-focus will kick in because your brain is like, “yeah, we can do this, we’ve got this.” then, before you know it, you’ve completed both the easy tasks and the hard tasks while hyperfocusing.

like, on a serious note, it’s always been easier for me to convince myself to get the most difficult tasks done when i’m already working/in the working frame of mind, not when i’m laying in bed or sitting on the couch, mindlessly scrolling through stuff on my phone, and struggling to start at all.

if the choice comes down to you not starting at all or starting with the easiest task first (which, for me, it often does), always, always pick starting with the easiest task first. sometimes you need a small victory, a little bit of an accomplishment, to give you the courage to take on bigger challenges.

#adhd #audhd #in my experience… ‘study tips’ or ‘time management tips’ from neurotypical people will almost never work for us #they don’t conceptualize time the same way we do #they don’t look at challenges the same way we do #it’s okay to take bits and pieces of their advice #ya know… whatever parts of it work for you #but don’t think that you have to use all the strategies and programs that they do to be successful #because you don’t #all that fake business soft skills/mental health guru/grind mindset stuff is total bullshit #pick strategies that speak to/work for you #it’s okay to fail at things and to have to try again #it’s okay to make mistakes and not get shit done sometimes #sometimes you need a fucking break #it’s okay to start with the easy stuff first and just ease your way into being productive #it’s okay to hyperfocus and work for hours on end sometimes #if it’s hard for you to take breaks when you’re studying and you feel like you learn better if you stay in that hyperfocused zone #than just go until the hyperfocus wears off #then take a break… eat… nourish your body… take care of yourself… and come back later #maybe later is later on that day #maybe later is tomorrow #either way is completely fine #do what works best for you #work with your neurodivergent brain… no against it #pol’s diary <3

honestly, looking at izaya's life from a third person pov, it's just... sad? like.

here's this guy who touts himself as something akin to a god and a master manipulator and someone to be feared, and he IS very good at what he does, except... when you take a look at the rest of his life, you see a mid-20s man who has no friends, nobody who really likes him- his clients fear him, his secretary isn't fond of him, and the one friend he DOES have is honestly kind of a garbage friend. and when people draw attention to this, izaya goes on this spiel about how this friendship is so intricrate it can't possibly be understood by an outsider, but what's REALLY happening is that shinra routinely doesn't care for izaya on a personal level via ignoring and ostracizing him, and izaya kind of just. takes it up the ass

he sees everyone around him as an object and the sad thing is everyone, in turn, sees HIM as an object- less an actual living being and more an abstract concept, or at least something that only exists for others to gain something from. it's this vicious cycle of izaya keeping everyone at arm's length and denying his own humanity, which in turn leads to people also denying his humanity, unknowingly feeding into this fucked up cycle of self depracation that most likely started when he was a child- his parents didnt see him as a person, just a mouth to feed and later, a way to have the life they wanted while still appearing respectable- they had kids, just like society said they should, but theyre not obligated to care for them.

and the one person who DOES notice there is something unhealthy going on can't be assed to do anything about it- in volume 9, shinra explicitly says that he doubts izaya expects to live long enough to die of old age- celty actually agrees with him! celty not being assed about it i'd expect, she already hates izaya and doesn't actually know all that much about him, but shinra at least should realize that there's something off about the whole situation. wether thats out of apathy or he just genuinley doesnt believe izaya is being unhealthy, i don't know.

but as it stands, here's a man who insists he can't be manipulated and that he's in control, who's... routinely mistreated by his only friend whom he still talks to and expects some sort of closeness from, and who ultimatley not only loses control, but loses it so spectacularly that he ends up disabled, possibly permanently. i KNOW the spinoff novels said he couldve walked if he went to physical therapy, but "ability to walk" does NOT equal "not disabled anymore."

like... it's just. a sad life! it's a horribly sad existence of a perpetual misery cycle that izaya not only doesn't pull himself out from but actively perpetuates via constantly giving in to his worst impulses and keeping everyone away from him via said impulses, ensuring nobody will notice anything wrong, and that people who DO notice and DO realize its unhealthy, won't give enough of a shit about him to help
