honestly full respect to tiktok/instagram artists but i could never in my LIFE do the cute little process video thing. making my process look pretty and advertisable would ruin the point for me, aside from being near impossible because i'd have to 1. remember to film any of it and 2. constantly interrupt my flow to film. you get a finished drawing and that's it!! that's all you need from me

hi !! i love all your tswift content !! it’s always so fun when interests in fandom overlap. i know you already answered about your favorite songs by her but i was wondering what your top 5 favorite albums are and also how/when you got into tswift !! 💖
(ps. i’m a new swiftie - my sister got me into her just this past year right before red (taylor’s version) came out so i only know all the songs from lover, fearless (taylor’s version), red (taylor’s version), and also reputation bc my sister just spent a whole week playing me every single song by her and she would ask me how i liked each song after and i guess a lot of my favorites were from reputation hahah - i have a thing about having to motivate myself to learning new albums bc when i start i basically just play it on loop until i know every song and i haven’t been able to get myself to do that since red but folklore and evermore are def next !! :) - and so far my ranking would be reputation, lover, red, fearless !!!)
HI!! This ask made me smile so big, so thank you. I sometimes worry that I talk about her too much, or people will get annoyed, but it's always gratifying and relieving and fun when other people love her too and are willing to indulge and/or join me in ranting about her and her music and its connections to Drarry.
Also, welcome to the madness! And kudos to your sister for getting you into Taylor. Mine did the same for me, actually, to answer your second question first lol. I was aware of Taylor growing up—I have a vivid memory of seeing Teardrops On My Guitar advertised on Disney channel. I heard YBWM and Love Story on the radio. (And "White Horse," though for a long time I thought it was called "Come Around" lmaooo).
I discovered even more of her songs when my older sister would drive us both to school and blast Taylor's music in the car. It was around the time that Red first came out. My sister would blast "All Too Well," and when it got to the lead-up to the bridge, she'd turn the volume increasingly louder, and louder, and louder until it got to "Well maybe we got lost in translation." We'd listen to songs from Red and Speak Now and Fearless, and I loved every second of it. (I have one memory of not knowing all the lyrics to "Forever and Always" but trying to sing along anyway and my sister asking me to stop singing if I didn't know the words 😂😂).
Taylor's songs really defined a lot of my adolescence. Her songs got me through heartbreaks and made me feel so seen. They still do. And it's incredible to see new Swifties like you get the same value from her music.
So, to answer your first question, here are my top 5 favorite Taylor albums!
1. Speak Now
2. Red (TV)
3. 1989
4. Fearless (TV)
5. folklore
I really love all her albums, but I have very vivid associations with the songs on those 5 albums, both in my personal life and with just experiencing being a fan when they came out.
I do with rep, too! I remember being shocked—in the best way—by LWYMMD song/music video and gasping when I heard her say "shit" for the first time. Also, since you ranked it first on your list, reputation has a ton of bangers and underrated songs; I can't wait for the vault tracks lol. Lover is underrated too. And Fearless is just a classic. Taylor really is a genius lol.
Thank you so so much for sending this in. I always get a thrill from asks, but it's especially exciting to get these kinds of requests and to hear from fellow Swiftie/Drarry people. 💛

a very very genuine question: so its bad to repost art but no one says anything when people repost things from the source material/creator's sketches.....why?like sure everyone who likes it may recognize the style but there are plenty of fan artists i recognize immediately, new or old art, with or without. to me it just feels the same, like either dont repost art or people should be able to repost stuff, i dont see how they can work at the same time. and this isnt me saying people should be allowed to repost and all that bc i do understand the theory of why reposting hurts artists, just that the logic doesnt seem to fit once it extends to famous artists/creators. just bc its official and easily recognizable makes it okay? how does that work? again, there are plenty of fanartists who are easily recognizable and lose no money when people repost their work (bc they posted it for free) and from my own observation, it seems it just, somehow, makes them want to do art less (from what i have read from artists themselves). why do we not consider that when it comes to official creators? wouldnt they also feasibly be less motivated seeing their hard work plastered across the internet for free when thats the sole way they make their income? and its not a system where its solely sticking it to the man bc it hurts the artists income, as well. but if it makes them happy to see people enjoying and sharing their work with others, drawing interest, why isnt it the same with fan artists? people often repost art, not out of malice or intent to claim credit, but bc they enjoy it + want to share it, esp on social media where sharing isnt a feature (instagram, for example) again im not trying to justify reposting, just confused about the contradiction
First of all instagram does have a form of sharing posts- stories. Which yes they are temporary by default, but you can use the highlight feature to collect your favorite things you’ve shared from people right there on your own profile AND it links back to the original post and can permanently be on your profile as long as you keep it there. You can even label them and everything! But then moving on to answering more of your actual questions
To start: this is a very complicated thing. And I feel everyone trying to answer it might have slightly varied opinions.
I personally see a pretty clear distinction between ‘Officially published/released’ works (like comic book [as like you’ve probably seen I frequently post comic panels] or other materials that may have been released in creator guides, official video game art, promotional art for things, etc etc) as opposed to like, personal work and fanart. Because with official works:
There’s usually a source to buy it and you should if you’re referencing it a ton (while I don’t own every comic I’ve ever read I do have a lot and if I did read something first through illegal means [because some comics are just straight up hard to find due to age/being out of print] and enjoyed it I try to seek out a physical copy after if possible)
There is a level of far wider recognition (I know you personally might find fanartists’ styles recognizable but like, things that are in mainstream media.. have just such a higher profile. it’s not really comparable)
If you’re not supporting the official release you’re harming the big company that published it far more than the individual artist (like, the individual artist probably also wouldn’t appreciate it, because it can effect them for sure as well, but they’re not gonna be taking the brunt of the damage unless it was entirely self-published work, which I’d definitely categorize differently from what I’m mainly talking about here.)
Often fanartists/professional artists who aren’t that well known, in addition to wanting to just create work for the sake of it, also want to build their own platform, to have an audience that they interact with. Or like, if they’re offering commissions, a bigger platform puts you in a position where people will actually see the art and want to commission you. When you say reposts of smaller artists’ fanart doesn’t ‘loose them money’ because they didn’t charge to post it, you’re missing the fact that it makes them loose out on proper linked-back-to-them exposure. Especially like, when a repost account on insta or something says ‘ah yes credit to [username] on tumblr’ the vast majority of people who see it aren’t going to then open up a whole different website and look for the artist. Some people might! but if there’s anything i’ve learned from working professionally in arts marketing it’s that people want things that are convenient and directly in front of them. Someone who wants to see more works because they liked one is significantly more likely to click on the username of someone who posted it rather than opening up a browser or a different app and searching a separate name put in the caption.
Then honestly, I do feel weird about reposts of professional artists’ more personal works unless the artist has stated they’re fine with people reposting with credit. It should be about the comfort level of the artist. I think a lot of professional artists who aren’t in a position where they’re as worried about building a platform, because they already have one and might have professional connections/opportunities already lined up, might not really care about reposts especially on a website they don’t use. (Like tumblr. I’m coming at this mostly from a comics artist perspective here, but most professional artists I see are waaaay more active on twitter and instagram than tumblr) If it’s a website they don’t use, it’s not taking away from the platform they had been building there for themselves. And also, some artists really just don’t give a shit, which is their choice they can make with their work! But that’s not a universal thing. One artist being fine with their personal art being reposted =/= all artists being fine with it.
In my own experience as a fanartist, when I see my art reposted without credit, especially when it’s art I’ve also already posted on the same platform... it’s definitely disheartening. Even worse is when the repost gets even more attention than my original post. (something that has happened to me multiple times!) Like, it can get so upsetting!  Because it lets me know that someone else was using my art to build their platform and I got exactly zero benefit out of it. Then when it’s reposted with credit it’s a little less annoying, but I still don’t... get much out of it. Especially if it’s an instagram repost and they credit my tumblr not my account on there, since insta captions don’t actually do links unless it’s to other insta accounts. Also with insta for example, I have a 'business’ account set up so I can look at and track popularity of my posts and see how they’re doing as something to keep in mind when considering posting times, etc etc. When other people repost my art there I have no control over it. That sucks a lot! Also, when I quite literally ask people not to repost my art (it is IN! MY! DESCRIPTION!) and they still do, it’s just straight up disrespectful. I asked for a boundary to be respected with my work and people have just completely ignored it. That doesn’t feel good at all.
But, conversely, I’m gonna talk about my more professional irl work for a sec. I’m a graphic designer, so I do things like posters, logos, etc, When I design a poster for a client that is meant to be advertising something, even if it’s got my own original illustration or something as part of it, I know my name isn’t necessarily going to be attached to it the same way as it is with my personal work. I get a credit line somewhere, but that’s in a fine print probably not even on the poster itself at all, but that’s like, part of what I signed up for. I already get paid separately, I am giving permission for my work to be out of my own hands in that way. Professional work for a client is often setup in some way similar to this. I don’t get mad when I walk down the street and see a poster I made up somewhere without it directly ‘linking’/referencing back to me (aside from maybe my signature if it had an illustration), in fact I go ‘OMG ITS THERE ugh wait i see one pixel is off oh noooooo” and then move on with my day. It’s just an entirely different situation because that kind of work has a different arrangement from the start, where you know it’s going to be put in a different type of circulation.
So yeah, my word isn’t god here, but I definitely see official releases as having a different set of permissions based on the fact that they are published in an entirely different situation. And I think reposts of personal art aren’t cool if the artist isn’t okay with them, no matter how big a platform they have. Other people probably approach this with a slightly different perspective, but that’s mine!

Translation of Anna Kasterova’s live interview on 5/29/20.
Thanks to my amazing Gino Anon, the entire interview is translated below the cut. Final word count, btw, is 2405 so like, send big thanks their way. Holy shit!
youtube
Anna got sick few days before the interview. Not covid, just a cold, that later turned into otitis. It was very painful, but now she’s feeling way better, though she still has some trouble hearing with her left ear. They talk a bit about the weather in Miami (it’s been raining there for a few days, but it’s still pretty hot). Igor asks if they’re allowed to swim during the quarantine. Anna says that the 1/
beaches were recently open, but there are obviously rules about keeping the safe distance. “Is Zhenya a good swimmer?” “Yeah, he’s great. He’s spending a lot of time with Nikita, teaching him how to swim. More in the pool though, than in the ocean.” “How do you and Zhenya feel about the latest news in NHL?” “I think, the idea is pretty good. Everyone has been waiting on some news about this season. I asked Zhenya if he preferred for the season to be cancelled. He said, he wanted to finish it 2/
properly. This season has been great for him, he’s in a great shape. And even though he hasn’t been skating for 2 months, he’s still been training pretty hard, running, roller skating and he didn’t lose his shape.” She thinks everything is turning pretty good so far and it’s great that the teams will have a time for training camps and a chance to go to playoffs.“In your opinion, were the players mentally prepared to continue the season?” “I think, those, who genuinely want to go to playoffs, 3/
have been working very hard to be ready, when the time comes. But, for sure, there are some players, who spent more time relaxing, rather than training. A lot of teams are asking their players to come back and start training on the ice and not all of the players follow their instructions.” “What are the rules about practice right now? Are they allowed to train in groups or…?” “There are no details about it yet. It haven’t even been decided yet, what cities will be chosen as Hub cities. So far 4/
the coaches are asking players to stay in shape. They have video calls together, where they go through different footage every time. But, as far as I understand, the organization and the coaching staff are ready for the players to come back.” “How do the players feel about the new rules for playoffs this season?” “No negative feelings. They’ve been under a lot of mental pressure, not knowing anything about the season and the playoffs. Everything seems pretty logical and they’re very happy to 5/
get back on ice and to have a chance to fight for SC.” “Is there any inside information about what cities will be chosen as Hubs?” “No one knows anything for sure. But I know that they’re very carefully considering epidemiological situation in the cities and will choose the safest options. ” *I SUCK at translating hockey terminology from Russian to English, so I’m sorry if anything is incorrect.* “Do you think it would’ve been fairer to include the numbers of “play-in” (I have no idea what he 6/
means by “play-in”) as well as the Robin Rounds into the statistics of regular season? Because it would give the players, like Ovechkin and Panarin, and Malkin to gain more points.” “It’s a very difficult question. But I’m sure NHL and NHLPA have gone over all the possible scenarios and have chosen the best one.” “How has Geno been handling the quarantine?” “He’s been very calm and collected. He’s been doing great mentally, smiling and cracking jokes, and keeping us safe and happy.” “Why did 7/
your family (meaning Geno, Anna and Nikita) decide to do a covid testing in early April?” “I had a pneumonia in November and wanted to find out for myself, if it was covid-induced, if I had any antibodies for the virus. But all the testing came back negative. None of us had it.” “What books did you and Zhenya read during the quarantine?” “Zhenya likes to read fantasy books. He’s been reading “Quantum Warrior: The Future of the Mind” by John Kehoe.” “Does he read in English?” “No, in English 8/
he’s mostly watching TV shows.” “I was very impressed by the story, that after his 1st season in NHL, Zhenya hired Russian language and literature teacher.” “He’s had a lot of free time these past 2 months and he’s hired 2 tutors: English language tutor to work on his grammar and Russian language tutor. (*Sorry, I don’t know if I need to explain this, but Geno obviously knows how to speak Russian. What I think Anna means here, is that the pronunciation of the words in Russian changes depending9/
on where the person is from. Every region has its own accent. I think, what Geno is trying to do, is lose his Magnitogorsk accent and start to speak clearer Russian, like ppl in Moscow of St. Petersburg do.*) He has classes with his tutors Monday to Friday. I’m very happy for him.” One of Geno’s friends in Russia has been robbed recently. Igor is asking Anna, if they ever considered buying a gun, since it’s allowed in US. Anna says no, they feel safe and they live a good neighborhood. She 10/
doesn’t think it necessary or appropriate. They talk a bit about Ovi’s second child being born recently and if Geno and Anna are planning on having a second child any time soon. “Of course, we wouldn’t mind having another child. If it happens, we’ll be very happy. I would like to have a girl, though.” “What’s the best way to describe Zhenya’s and Ovechkin’s relationships today? Are they friends or rivals” “Both. And healthy rivalry is very important in order to reach their personal goals.” 11/
“When Caps and Pens play each other, is it possible for them to go have dinner after.” “No.” “What can you say about the relationships between Zhenya and Sidney Crosby? When we talked with Zhenya last year, he said very nice and kind things about him. Even though Zhenya is in Sid’s shadow a lot of the time.” “I can talk about it for hours. They push each other and make each other stronger. But they also can step in and do more than anyone, when the other is hurt and not playing. Off the ice, 12/
they are very good friends and they support each other. Have I ever thought about what his life would be like, if he was the only star player in a team? I think, he’d be the best player in the whole NHL. He’s very intelligent in terms of building a game, always plans 2-3 steps ahead. He’s very fearless in his game, very talented and vey multilateral player. He’s very unique. They won together THREE STANLEY CUPS! No one's saying Crosby is less talented. He’s an incredible player, he works very13/
hard every day. They are 2 number 1 players in this team. If Zhenya ever asked me if I’d like him to play in New York, f/e, I’d say, no. Pittsburgh is his city, his home. And management and coaching staff are also a very important part of team success. The relationship inside the team is very important. And Pens are the best in that, imo.” “You two watched Super Bowl at Sid’s place. What’s it like there?” “It’s a tradition. Every year Sid invites the team with their wifes/gfs/kids to watch 14/
Super Bowl. His gf Kathy does all the cooking. She’s a very geart person, very hospitable. *omg, this is the first time I hear any1 talking about Sid’s gf 😀, aww* Everyone on the team is very open, very kind, they are great guys. It’s the best thing about Pens. So we’re always happy to accept Sid’s invitation and we always have a great time.” “Do you want Nikita to become a hockey player?” “We’re not gonna push him to it. If it’s something he wants, sure. But I have big plans for his 15/
education. I’d like him to know 2 languages, (English) and Russian, especially grammar, not just being able to speak it freely. I’m studying with him and for an almost 4 yo he already knows quite a lot. And it’s always very hard for a child of a parent, who has achieved so much, to surpass that kind of success. And I don’t want my son to have this kind of pressure on him. I don’t want him to be known solely as “Malkin’s son”. For me it’s very important for him to get a good education and to 16/
choose his path in life.” “Talking about the tv series about Michael Jordan, would you like a bio series to be shot about Zhenya?” “I know he wants to act, in a tv series or in a movie. He talked about it many times. As for a biopic, of course I would like that. He has a huge success story. A man from a simple, working class family. It’s very expensive to play hockey. And he was so talented even in a young age, that his coaches would sometimes bring him a puck, or a stick, or a uniform, for 17/
free. Add to that a story about him finally getting to NHL.” “Zhenya said once in an interview, that you fight sometimes about him not being open enough w/ you, not sharing his problems etc. Has it changed during the quarantine?” “Everything’s been great during quarantine. During the season, he’s under a lot of pressure and always takes it hard if the team loses or if he doesn’t score. Right now he’s very calm and happy, and everything is great.” A question about a conflict around Geno having18/
a USA passport (a lot of people in Russia, his celebrity friends especially, weren’t happy with that, and judged him for that). What does Anna think about it? “He’s a patriot. He loves his country and his city. We were in a hopeless situation, when I needed to get all the documents ready ASAP, and we needed to get married, and him having a US passport would speed that up. You could say, he did it for me. On the other hand, America is his 2nd home. He spends here more time than in Russia. He’s19/
been working here for years. Why is that such a big problem? It’s not like he turned his back on Russia or anything.” Then she talked about Geno’s donation to families in Magnitogorsk, who suffered bc of explosion that happened there in December 2018, and how much he gives to his community in Russia, that ppl don’t know about, bc he prefers not to advertise it. Then Igor keeps asking political questions and Anna is getting more and more irritated by them. Geno publicly supported Putin’s 20/
reelection whenever that was, and interviewer is asking whether him having an American passport is appropriate, considering that he’s a part of Putin team? “Why is it inappropriate? America and Russia are not enemies. Yes, there are some unresolved political issues. They are 2 huge countries, of course they will always feel threatened by each other. But I don’t see any serious political confrontation. Maybe bc we’re in US right now. But Zhenya has a great respect for his president. *bleh, I 21/
don’t like Putin. I know, she has to say nice things about him, bc as long as Geno is a part of Team Russia and wants to have a life in Russia, they can’t be openly against him. But both Geno and Anna don’t strike me as ppl, who will support Putin’s ideals. Sorry for me butting in w/ my opinion*” Question about Geno’s new diet after 18-19 season. “He never drinks alcohol during season. He doesn’t eat potatoes anymore. It’s very hard to cook him a soup w/o any potatoes in it. No sweet things,22/
no gluten. Now before games, he eats gluten-free pasta.” “Is he very superstitious? Do you try to wean him off some of them?” “No, if it makes him feel comfortable, why would I do that?” She declined to name any of them, bc it’s a personal thing for Geno. “Do you put in any work in Zhenya’s image and style?” “I think so, a bit. His sense of style has become better, his taste in literature.” “Zhenya’s favorite music?” “Russian pop-music mostly.” Question about Geno’s gaming habits. Anna 23/
doesn’t try to control him or tell him not to play, bc for him these computer games are a way to relax. She doesn’t mind. It’s his personal time. He doesn’t have his computer in Miami, so he found another way to spend time – studying with his tutors. Question about Olympics. “Yes, he’d like to win a gold medal with Team Russia, when the time comes.” He doesn’t feel jealous about Datsyuk or Kovalchuk, who have an Olympic gold. “Do you think, Zhenya’s last hockey season before retirement will 24/
be in Magnitogorsk?” “Sure, I don’t see why not. He’s very grateful for everything Metallurg gave him and it would seem logical for him to come back there before retiring.” “What is Zhenya’s biggest motivation right now?” “He’s very self-critical (she means Geno’s words about his skills in 18-19 season). He always has a high bar for himself and je always tries to reach it.” Question about Geno reaching 1000 pts. “It was a very big moment for us and a big win for him. He was very inspired 25/
by it and it gave him a lot of self-confidence.” ‘Was Zhenya mad about not making NHL’s 100 players list?” “I was. I was very angry. But he knows his value and what he’s achieved as a player. But it was very strange for me.” “Who do you think Zhenya wil be after his career ends? And how will your life together change? Will you spend more time in Russia or in US?” “It’s a tough question. I imagine a house by the lake, in Russia, with kids and, later, grandkids. With a big fireplace. I think, 26/
after finishing his career, we’d like to travel a bit. But I don’t know. It’s something you should ask him.”

All weird asks!! They're so good!
Sorry this is a bit late, babe! I wanted to wait til I had the opportunity to answer all these uninterrupted!
1. coffee mugs, teacups, wine glasses, water bottles, or soda cans?
Coffee mugs! tbh I drink tea out of coffee mugs because who actually uses teacups? I mean my grandma has tons and I would use them, but the handles are so tiny and I am v clumsy so it scares me.
2. chocolate bars or lollipops?
Chocolate bars!!! I’m too impatient for lollipops and plus they always get coated in saliva which just...drips down my chin since my mouth is already full.
3. bubblegum or cotton candy?
Bubblegum! I love cotton candy but I can only handle a bit at a time tbh. Also I haven’t had bubblegum in almost two years bc of braces and I miss it so much I can’t wait to have it again.
4. how did your elementary school teachers describe you?
Okay, so even though I’ve always been homeschooled, when I was in elementary school we did this program with a ton of other homeschoolers where you could take actual classes and stuff. My teachers always said I was quiet and focused and studious, and you could always count on me to be lecturing everyone else on the instructions if they hadn’t been paying attention. (does any of that surprise anyone?)
5. do you prefer to drink soda from soda cans, soda bottles, plastic cups or glass cups? GLASS SODA BOTTLES. nothing beats soda that’s been bottled in glass rather than plastic. You ever had orange cream soda from a glass bottle????? SLAPS ASS MY DUDE.
6. pastel, boho, tomboy, preppy, goth, grunge, formal or sportswear?
Pastel/boho/preppy/goth, my dude. I have so many sides to my fashion and aesthetic.
7. earbuds or headphones?
EARBUDS BC HEADPHONES NEVER FIT OVER MY EARS RIGHT. BUT EARBUDS WITH SOFT TIPS BECAUSE MY EARS ARE TOO SMALL FOR THE PLASTIC ONES.
8. movies or tv shows?
Tv shows tbh because even though I can binge 4 eps of 45 minutes each per night, they’ll hold my attention a lot more than a movie. It’s weird.
9. favorite smell in the summer?
Thunderstorms/petrichor, also natural bogs. PEAT BOG SMELL FUCKING SLAPS.
10. game you were best at in p.e.?
None. I liked trampoline time back when we took gymnastics, if that counts. I also liked jump roping and Irish step dancing.
11. what you have for breakfast on an average day?
Nothing lmao. I sleep til like noon and then I microwave something for lunch.
12. name of your favorite playlist?
My catchall playlist, Things I Love, my summer playlist, Summer Songs, my Gryffindor playlist, My Queen And Country playlist for writing, and my playlist for The Raven Cycle. (after I post this I’ll edit it and link them)
13. lanyard or key ring?
Keyring, a lanyard would like constantly detract from my outfit if that makes sense???
14. favorite non-chocolate candy?
Sour Patch Kids or Swedish Fish.
15. favorite book you read as a school assignment?
Between The Grapes Of Wrath, The Great Gatsby, The Handmaid’s Tale, and To Kill A Mockingbird!
16. most comfortable position to sit in?
Just fucking sprawled every which way.
17. most frequently worn pair of shoes?
My grey converse if it’s comfortable out, my silver flip flops if it’s hot, and my fur-lined black combat boots if it’s cold.
18. ideal weather?
65-70 degrees, partly sunny, breezy, not humid.
19. sleeping position?
I need to sprawl to fall asleep, but once I’m asleep I curl up into a little ball.
20. preferred place to write (i.e., in a note book, on your laptop, sketchpad, post-it notes, etc.)?
Laptop and notebook ONLY IF I’m sure of myself, which isn’t often. But I do write dense, scribbled paragraphs on sermon note pages if something comes to me during church lmao.
21. obsession from childhood?
The American Revolution, weather, astronomy, and mysteries/ghost stories.
22. role model?
Idk tbh? Lately I’m just trying to define and live up to my own standards?
23. strange habits?
Pulling the collar of my shirt up to my mouth and sucking on it. Also being a perfectionist in my writing. I don’t do messy drafts. It’s all perfect by the time I write it, and I edit/spellcheck as I go.
24. favorite crystal?
Amethyst (my birthstone), bismuth, opal, and blue goldstone.
25. first song you remember hearing?
Other than nursery rhymes/kid’s songs, it was Light Up The Sky by The Afters, or California Dreamin’ by The Mamas And The Papas.
26. favorite activity to do in warm weather?
Find shade/a cool spot and read with a cold drink.
27. favorite activity to do in cold weather?
ALSO READ. And snuggle with thick socks and a cup of tea and play DS games all day.
28. five songs to describe you?
My five faves atm -
I Am Here // Pink
The Pines // Roses and Revolutions
Soldier, Poet, King // The Oh Hellos
Traveler’s Song // Aviators
Hymn // Kesha
29. best way to bond with you?
Share my interests about politics, history, books, true crime, paranormal, tv shows, and also be kind and understanding when I don’t text for long periods bc I don’t feel up to talking.
30. places that you find sacred?
The woods on the hill behind my house. Dense, deeply green, secluded woods. Hedge mazes. Old and crumbling castles. Anywhere beneath a clear sky and a full moon. Your heart when you’ve come to terms with your fears and made peace with yourself. Anyplace with historical significance. Bookstores on an autumn/winter day. Libraries.
31. what outfit do you wear to kick ass and take names?
A kickass plaid, bruh. Also my leather jacket - once I lose enough shoulder weight to fit in it again.
32. top five favorite vines?
Fre shavoc ado, the one where the dog eats the butterfly, the Lin-Manuel Miranda one where he’s brainstorming, “what the FUCK kind of weather is this, and the dad and son with the saxophone and the oven door.
33. most used phrase in your phone?
“oh mood”
34. advertisements you have stuck in your head?
“WOW! It’s NatureStone!”
35. average time you fall asleep?

hey! this might come off as a weird question, but you're one of the most educated and knowledgeable people i can think of, and i really admire that. I'd like to learn and read more, but i have depression so. very low energy and motivation. Do you have any tips for this? Thank you! xx
this is so sweet, thank you!! I feel you so hard on this, bc I also suffer from a lot of Bull Shit™ that makes it incredibly hard for me to focus on things or have the motivation to do things. sometimes I literally just can’t, and admittedly there are times where I waste entire days (or sometimes even weeks) doing nothing. I think the most important thing to remember is that this doesn’t mean you’re never going to make it or that you’re not really committed. everyone who loves to learn probably likes that aesthetic of being wholly dedicated 24/7 but babes that just ain’t practical for a lot of us.
everyone is different and everyone has their own limits and paces to work at, but here’s some tips/things to remember I’ve found work most of the time!
work in short bursts. it can be impossible to work for half an hour, or an hour, but if you’re reading/researching something try little blocks of 10-15 minutes. that gives you room for a break and to absorb things, and if you find yourself getting hooked you can just roll with it. it doesn’t seem like much but I learned the Russian alphabet and Russian cursive entirely in 10 minute blocks over several months, and through doodling the letters constantly. it works!
if you get that thing where you just Can’t Focus on something for too long, do several things. that way when you start procrastinating, you end up procrastinating with something else you wanna do. brain: hacked.
remember that making progress doesn’t have to mean sitting at a desk like a scholar for several hours!! like reading the cool bits of a wiki page for your chosen interest while lying in bed wanting to die totally counts!! in fact lying in bed wanting to die is, imo, a central part of the scholar aesthetic
for real I don’t think I’ve read a wikipedia article from beginning to end in years I just read snippets until suddenly bam I’ve read it all
same with non-fiction books like linear whom? chronological what?
if you’re learning a language: listen to videos/radio stations/etc in your chosen language. this counts as study. this is very beneficial for learning how sentences are structured/how words sound.
don’t underestimate this like I learned how to sound out Russian words from the shop fronts and advertisements visible in those Russian dashcam videos
…also learned a lot of new words and phrases from those videos but none I can repeat in polite company!!
accept you’re gonna have bad days. there are gonna be days where you just can’t do anything and that’s fine. it doesn’t mean you’re fake or not intelligent or you don’t care. it’s just A Day. be melancholy. come back to it later. wallow for a bit. Lord Byron would be proud.
at the same time if you feel you’ve been doing nothing for too long and it’s getting to you, try and force yourself to do something. even if it’s small. one page of a book or one 10-minute research slot is still more than you did yesterday. still progress.
finally there is no One Single Right Way™ to learn. everyone who says there is is a Liar and Gourd. learn what works for you and go with it, even if it’s unconventional. my energy is higher at really weird times, for example – late at night, early morning, basically nocturnal hours. everyone always rode my ass on it but it’s how I got through school! it’s how I keep up with all my projects!
“but you should be sleeping” bitch I have depression!! I wouldn’t be sleeping anyway!!
if it works use it like you need all the weapons you can get and everyone else can Shut The H*ck Up
oh one more thing yes some people will be moving faster than you and finshing books and learning quicker but don’t let that get you down. remember everyone has their own fight and that person might just have perfected their own methods. you can learn too.
for example this ask, I bet I look like a dignified and disciplined scholar, right?
ha! wrong. I’m a mess.
but a mildly productive one
and you too can be a mildly productive mess!!
aaand the tl;dr bc god knows some days I wouldn’t read that wall of text: short bursts, little bits at a time, multiple things at once if you’re a procrastinator or have a short attention span, remember you don’t have to work constantly or in big bursts to be Valid™, listening to a language you’re learning counts as research, find what works for you and run with it 👉👉 (these are finger guns)

hi loves i’m gonna go on a lil rant about pronouns under the cut bc whatever tumblr is my outlet
okay u know what’s really starting to get me fired up.........the singular they discourse
like. i cannot believe that i, sitting here watching youtube videos, stumbled upon such a misguided argument as this: “first of all, if we’re going to try to implement use of -- let’s just talk about they/them...let’s say that we actually are going to try to implement they/them pronouns into the english language. yeah, i know that we use them anyway when we’re talking about someone whose gender we don’t know, but if you’re interacting with someone who is one person, and maybe looks androgynous and maybe looks like they lean towards one sex or the other, you’re probably just going to pick he or she and not even think about it consciously. so a change like this is going to take a while. like, years probably. i mean, we already have thousands and thousands and thousands and thousands of years of just using the traditional he and she -- this kind of change is not going to happen instantly, and it’s definitely not going to happen without a little or a lot of resistance.”
that’s the point where i had to stop the video and just. walk around my room for a moment. because it’s so blatantly wrong. we have not been using he and she for “thousands and thousands and thousands and thousands” of years??? do you understand how language evolves? do you realize that pronouns have changed demonstrably in the past few hundred years alone? in early modern english -- the time in which shakespeare wrote -- there were two second-person pronouns, thou and you, where thou was informal and you was formal, much like french’s tu and vous or spanish’s tú and usted. thou was decreasing in popular usage by the turn of the 17th century, but it still existed. so if you think english pronouns have been static for “thousands of years,” you’re just wrong. i mean, english as a language didn’t even exist thousands of years ago. if you’re looking at more than 2000 years ago, you’re looking at proto-germanic, not english.
beyond that, they has been used as a singular pronoun since the 14th century. it’s only in the 19th century onwards that it’s been contested (and we know what kind of rampant prescriptivists 19th century grammarians were).
beyond that, people were trying to come up with alternate gender-neutral pronouns as early as the 1790s, when james anderson advocated for the indeterminate pronoun “ou.”
and the idea that it takes dozens or scores or hundreds of years for new words or new usages of words to be introduced is just ridiculous and, to be honest, willfully ignorant. how many words that we commonly use today didn’t exist in the 1950s? how many words that we commonly use today didn’t exist in the nineties? the advent of current technology has proved pretty clearly just how quickly we can introduce and accept new terminology into common vernacular. the word “catfish” was first used to mean “a person who sets up a false personal profile on a social networking site for fraudulent or deceptive purposes” (or as a verb, to catfish someone, meaning to deceive them in this way) in 2010, and now that definition is in the merriam-webster english dictionary.
language is living, it evolves, no matter what you might have learned from prescriptivists and linguistic purists as a student. newly-coined words can enter common vernacular in a few years, not a few decades -- and with the internet, it happens even more rapidly.
if you honestly believe that using they/them pronouns for a specific individual is too much work for you to manage, when you’ve adapted to the new terminology of the 21st century just fine, you are not just wrong, you are lazy.
i’m not saying it has to be easy! i’m not saying you have to get it right all the time! and anyone who genuinely attacks you for fumbling your pronouns is wrong to do so. but personally i think the idea that nonbinary people are aggressive about their pronouns comes from people taking a correction as an attack. if i remind you about my pronouns, i’m not attacking you! i’m not harassing or shaming you! it’s just that: a reminder. but people get defensive, and feel harassed for having to work at something, and decide that what they’re being asked to do is unreasonable and illogical instead of just accepting the reminder and moving on.
and the “i’m old and didn’t grow up with singular they so now i can’t do it” excuse is lazy too. which is pretty much exactly what my queer lit professor said when my friend and i reminded her about our pronouns -- my queer lit professor, mind you, who advertises the class as a safe and lgbt-friendly space, said that it was hard for her because she didn’t grow up with it, instead of just apologizing and promising to try harder.
you didn’t grow up with the internet either, and you’ve adapted to that terminology just fine. and if my 78-year-old grandma, who’s just gotten her first smartphone, can learn how to text, you can learn to use an existing pronoun in a slightly different way.
p.s.: to be clear, i’m not saying it isn’t hard to adjust when someone you’ve known by one set of pronouns for a long time changes them. it is hard! it can be very hard! but i’m not talking about the difficulty of changing pronouns for someone about whom you’ve had a fixed perspective for a long time. i’m talking about using baseless excuses for why you can’t or shouldn’t use singular they. if you’re having a hard time, it’s okay to admit you’re having a hard time, but don’t just give up and then use inaccurate linguistic arguments as an excuse for your own struggles. that’s when you just become inconsiderate and willfully ignorant.

Change of paradigm: Breastfeeding is the Norm and anything else is Less. *
*After some valuable exchange of thoughts and suggestions from one of my experienced supervisors, Annelies Allain, I’ve come to the decision to revise my latest entry to make myself clearer on the importance of a need in change of paradigm that confirms Breastfeeding is the Norm and anything else is Less.
I keep getting asked why Penang (let me assure you it’s no vacation, just paradise) and where exactly I’m interning. I try to give an answer people can relate to but I usually end up getting funny looks telling me to let go of this “sophisticated/pretentious” attitude I’m often accused with and start talking human.
Well, I start mentioning the Code of Marketing of Breastmilk Substitutes, which has become my Bible (Koran if you think it’s more appropriate) and I elaborate on the ICDC’s role as a whistle-blowing, “Big Brother Is Watching You” kinda organisation that tells companies and manufacturers of baby foods to abide by the rules:
Sell your products - Don’t promote them!
Sometimes, I still get the vibe that my gibberish does not seem to convince people how marketing regulations match with my field of studies (Public Health Nutrition).  This is the point where I have no option than mentioning breastfeeding and this also the point where I get the attention of most people as they can all relate to breastfeeding in some way.
Some still feel uncomfortable, imagining or seeing a mother breastfeeding her child - it’s ok if you feel so but please try to change.
However, there is a consensus across the world that breastfeeding is a good practice and the (biological) norm. When I say biological norm, I sincerely try to choose my next words very cautiously as I don’t want to be misunderstood or misinterpreted. It’s is important that we are all on the same page that the aim of the Code is not only to promote and to protect breastfeeding but it also aims to provide adequate information for the proper use of breastmilk substitutes. It ensures, moreover, that companies are hindered from influencing mothers’ decision to use infant formula and protect all infants - those that are breastfed and not breastfed- from misleading and unethical marketing.
Regarding ethical and unethical marketing, let’s see if you agree:
Would you consider the following examples as ethical?
The following example is a harmless brochure from Thailand.
Tumblr media
The picture is actually nice, one would think it promotes breastfeedig
BUT when you open the folder, you see…
Tumblr media
…how Nestlé physically separates the baby from the breast.
P.S.: This is an old example. Nestlé had to stop this practice after receiving complaints from ICDC!
How about the next example from Ethiopia?
Tumblr media
A nurse in the neonatal section wears a uniform embroidered with (Model on the picture is Elsie-ICDC staff and colleague). The uniform does not only provide free advertising for Danone, it also is a medical endorsement of Danone’s products. Do you think mothers are influenced seeing a doctor endorsing Danone’s products? Do you think this creates a conflict of interest?
I’ll talk about conflicts of interest in my next blog episode and also elaborate on how I had the chance to teach health workers from all over the world on the Scope and how I used this opportunity to network at the same time).           For now, I want you to try to understand what unethical marketing can cause.
Jan Bennink, the former Chairman of Dutch Numico (since acquired by French multinational Danone) surprised the Public Health World with his rather bold and FRANK statement saying
“Breastfeeding is the direct competitor of formula.”
Numico is a combination of three brand names - Nutricia, Milupa and Cow & Gate,  now owned by Danone, the second biggest baby food manufacturer. This short and clear statement is a clear admission that the industry is competing with breastfeeding.
This is why there is a movement stressing the importance of a change of paradigm confirming Breastfeeding is the Norm and everything else is LESS:
Less nutritious
Less antibodies
Less sterile
Less bonding
Less expense
and NO living substances
To make it clearer, let’s talk about the example of buying a new car: Most families will buy a car that is good enough, a normal car that will take them form A to B. Very few will think of getting the best, most luxurious car.
Many women also think they don’t need to go for the very best. Many believe that formula is good enough. Hence, we should reassure them that breastfeeding is the norm, not a luxurious “best”. A change in paradigm.
It is important to acknowledge that women do not have any obligation to breastfeed. It is their own body and their own decision to breastfeed or not to breastfeed, provided on the basis of objective information.
Breastfeeding is not an easy practice, it requires, without any doubt, a lot of support on different levels including support from immediate family, health workers, community and most importantly the government by introducing policies such as paid maternity leave, baby friendly hospitals, national regulations etc.
It is no surprise that the industry keeps using the power of language to convince consumers about the similarity of formula to human breastmilk. A quick check on any baby food company will let you recognize that each one is just another wolf in sheep’s clothes, playing the good Samaritan to save babies. Every company will agree that breastfeeding is the best nutrition for babies and each of them will praise their efforts to invest in research to provide a good alternative…out of cow’s milk? Formula is made of cows’ milk. That’s good for calves but not for babies. Calling “Breastfeeding is Best” has offered companies to come up with the idea of providing “Something Good” or “Close to Best” in the first place. This is why we need a change of paradigm that confirms: Breastfeeding is the norm and everything else is less!
Hypothetically, if one says “Breastfeeding is best”, does this mean that “Bottle-feeding is less good? Would it help to increase exclusive breastfeeding rates?
Let us travel back in time and see how bottle-feeding has been criticized in the past:
In 1939, BC, (before the Code), Cicely Williams, presented her talk, “Milk and Murder” on bottle-baby deaths and condensed milk and said that “misguided propaganda on infant feeding should be punished as the most criminal form of sedition, and that those deaths should be regarded as murder.”
In 1968, Dr. Derrick Jelliffe coined the term “commerciogenic malnutrition” to describe the impact of industry marketing practices on infant health. (This term has caught my deep interest and makes me very passionate to look closer at it in future!)
In 1974, War on Want (waronwant.org), an anti-poverty charity based in London, published “The Baby Killer”, a report on infant malnutrition and promotion of artificial feeding in the Third World. Thereupon, a group of students in Switzerland (Third World Action Group) first translated “The Baby Killer” to “Nestlé Kills Babies” and published the translation.
As someone with a background in translation, I admit that this is rather a free, not quite accurate but definitely hell of a successful translation.
Nestlé, a Swiss company and biggest baby food manufacturer, was obviously not quite thrilled by being called a murderer and sued the group for libel.
Two years after hearings, the student group was found guilty of libel, but only for the title and while the students were given a small fine, Nestlé was warned by the judge to change its marketing practices.
Has Nestlé changed? Well, remember the Nestlé boycott? It was launched just shortly after the Nestlé hearings in 1977 by INFACT (Infant Formula Action Coalition) in the US and is until today the longest worldwide boycott in history. So, has Nestlé changed? Clearly not enough AND the boycott is still going on.
Research has shown that low (exclusive) breastfeeding rates are caused, among others, by poor government policies, lack of support for mothers AND by aggressive and relentless marketing of the formula milk industry.
Each year, the deaths of more than 800 000 children can be prevented through universal breastfeeding (Lancet, 2016).
Bottle-feeding puts infants and mothers at many risks that breastfeeding could prevent. Here is a list of some risks that are associated with bottle-feeding:
For infants and children:
Increased risk of asthma
Increased risk of allergy
Increased risk of acute respiratory disease
Increased risk of nutrient deficiencies
Increased risk of chronic diseases
Increased risk of diabetes
Increased risk of cardiovascular disease
Increased risk of obesity
Increased risk of side effects of environmental contaminants
Increased risk of mortality
 For mothers:
Increased risk of breast cancer
Increased risk of overweight
Increased risk of ovarian cancer
Increased risk of osteoporosis
Increased risk of maternal diabetes
Increased risk of stress and anxiety
Source: Risks of Formula Feeding by Infact Canada, 2002 and also confirmed by Lancet Breastfeeding Series, 2016.
In conclusion, if we say “Breastfeeding is best” it means bottle-feeding is never as good. Therefore, a change of paradigm is needed that confirms and emphasises Breastfeeding is the Norm and everything else is LESS.
Have you ever heard of breast crawl - the instinct that babies are born with enabling them to move towards the mother’s nipple and attach to it, all by themselves? Check out the short video (it’s in Spanish but you will get the gist) and ENJOY.
                                          Babies Do Know Best.

P.S.A BIG THANK YOU to those among you who read my last entry in the first place and then made the effort to send interesting materials to be verified as potential Code violations! Keep up the good work!!!

You’re so welcome dear aera! 💛 & thank YOU as well. Bc I’m having a lot of fun talking with you, it’s not quite that easy to find someone like you. also I’m so damn flattered everytime u call me smart Hehe
But for real, do ur thing. I’ve always been a person who loves to imagine and I don’t know what would I do without imagination. I think that’s what made me a story lover and that’s why I love reading stories, watching anime & movies & series, and even playing video games. Isn’t all these imaginative worlds amazing? and I also can learn a lot from them. I’ll gladly lose myself in ur worlds as well So again, for real, just go wild. It’ll be appreciated :D if possible, I hope one day I’ll be able
to read that book of yours! =). And I major in finance ^.^ , was it expected? .. So I guess we both are business students! :D how’s ur org comm? What do u like about it? I actually took a course called “organizational behavior” and other two other courses called “business communication”. I imagined them as a snippets from what you study :)
I’m saddened to hear you’re having a hard time. I’d don’t what to say, but it’ll pass! and I trust that you’ll manage.. And after all of that you’ll be stronger just Keep going! I wish you all the best dear. I’m reallly happy I managed to cheer u up🥺you rlly cheer me up as well! Luv u!
ASEEL!!!! I'm flattered as well to know you're having fun talking with me (bc I love talking with you and I'm SO HAPPY this is two-way asddfghjjkkl-🥺🥺🥺). And damn well you should receive that compliment because you! Are! Smart!!! And nothing you say can convince me otherwise 😆.
Wow, you're a finance major! I didn't actually expect that bc I thought your course is inclined to humanities, seeing as how well you make your textual analyses and your knowledge in psychology. Anyway yes, we're business students! Though org comm is more on the humanities side bc it centers around communication (duh aera, obviously). But since org comm is a new course in my country, it's been a hassle telling people (especially older ones) again and again "ooh org comm is not mass comm bc org comm focuses on communications surrounding and operating within organizations, etc." Then they'll only nod their heads briefly and then I'll see that look in their face and the tone of their voice as they mutter "okay." That feeling they don't care since my course doesn't belong to any major science field (this is really a big deal among Asian older generations). So in the end, when they ask me what I major in, I just dismissally tell them "Business." 😂
Even if I initially wanted to study literature, I eventually learned to love my course. What I love most about it is its inherrent flexibility. This course guarantees me a job in any field - medical, business, art, advertising, etc. Since people connections matter the most in every field and most of them function the best in organizations so yeah 🤷🏻‍♀️. Oof, I'm curious about this organizational behavior and business communication! Can you tell me more of them?
You're right about the things you said about imagination! I think the world actually heavily relies on stories. From your country's history, to the story you tell to your future employers in job interviews, to how people ended up making these laws, money, and whatever - everything has a story in them which are necessary for everyone to know to learn how to live.
Shucks, I feel teary-eyes now. To have you say you'd want to get lost in my worlds...and much more read my book once I get to publish one is one of the greatest compliments anyone has ever sent to me 😭😭😭. All these years I've been writing, I only had my family and bestfriends say they'd want to read my book when I get to publish one. And now, to know a reader of mine I managed to have by my side through my writings and online ramblings, wants to read my book - I'm beyond overwhelmed 😭😭😭. God, I feel so overwhelmed with happiness right now. I used to only dream of receiving words like this. Now that I'm finally here, I don't know what to do but just ramble my gratefulness no words can actually exactly express. I do hope one day I could publish a book. And if I ever do, I'll make sure you're one of the first people to know ☺️. Seriously, thank you so, so, SO much for supporting me.
You're right, these hard times do pass. I'm okay now, actually. Moreso when I received these kind messages. Thank you so much for cheering me up! You always manage to put a smile on my face no matter the situation I'm in. I wish you all the best, too, Aseel! I love you! 💕

When your dog eliminates in the right spot outside, praise her with words and give her a treat within one to three seconds of the behavior. Remember that consistency is crucial, so make sure you have treats with you to reward her within three seconds every time she goes in the right spot. FAQ | First, let’s start with clearing up some potential confusion and putting your mind at ease. You may have seen conflicting articles or received differing opinions on whether dogs are “den animals” (animals that live the majority of their lives underground or in a cave). The truth is that while dogs aren’t technically “den animals,” as they certainly don’t spend the majority of their lives in a den, they do have a “denning instinct.” Pregnant dogs seek out the safety of a den to birth and rear their pups. So some of your puppy’s earliest memories tie back to the comfort and safety of being with mom (and litter mates) in a safe, secure, den-like space. Additionally, when dogs are ill, injured, or otherwise needing a place to relax and feel safe, they will seek out a den or “den-like” protected space. While you may worry that your dog will see their crate as a “jail cell,” the truth is actually quite the opposite. When crate training and conditioning is handled correctly, a crate provides a calming and protective space where your dog can relax and feel secure — and truly be safe.  July 28, 2017 at 4:53 am interaction Cornucopia Institute Your puppy will watch you to read your body signals more than he will listen to you, and he’ll quickly learn what you’re feeling even without you speaking. If you’re like me and have trouble keeping up with your pup at all times try using a tether. You can buy a tether from the pet store or simply do what I did and use a long lead or leash. McKinley and Young undertook a pilot study on the applicability of a modified version of the model-rival method to the training of domestic dogs, noting that the dog’s origins as a member of large and complex social groups promote observational learning. The model-rival training involved an interaction between the trainer, the dog, and a person acting as a model-rival, that is, a model for desired behaviour and a rival for the trainer’s attention. In view of the dog, a dialogue concerning a particular toy commenced between the trainer and the model-rival. The trainer praised or scolded the model-rival depending on whether the model-rival had named the toy correctly. It was found that the performance times for completion of the task were similar for dogs trained with either operant conditioning or the model rival method. In addition, the total training time required for task completion was comparable for both methods.[66] Nosework Games and NW2 & NW3 Coaching Clinics with Michael McManus Training the Best Dog Ever: A 5-Week Program Using the Power of Positive Reinforcement by Larry Kay Paperback $10.98 Featured Events potty train dog | how to potty train a dog fast potty train dog | potty train dog potty train dog | best way to potty train Legal | Sitemap

Hello, Phoebe. I’m back :)
How are you doing? Just put whatever you feel like here! This ask is the Phoebe Show; make it yours!
Lyssa, it is always a pleasure to see you in my notifs, but especially in my ask box! Thank you for filling it with kind words, awesome prompts, and fun questions for me to play around with.
This blog is the closest I imagine I'll ever come to having the Phoebe Delia Show, and since you have given me free rein with this ask, I shall endeavor to make it count.
I've gotten some incredible asks about my interests, but I'm going to answer a question that has been asked by exactly no one and rank Taylor Swift's albums.
This will be in order of my favorites; this isn't necessarily a reflection of what I think the rank would be in terms of objective quality; instead, this is based on my own personal enjoyment of the albums.
As always, I will provide a little explanation as to my reasoning, because I am nothing if not indulgent.
I actually really surprised myself with this ranking; as I looked through the albums I evaluated each by counting the number of songs I liked off of each one, and the ranking I thought I had has now changed. (I will explain in my comments!).
So! With that said. The Phoebe Delia Show Presents: Ranking Taylor Swift Albums.
1. Speak Now--To me, there is only one skip on this entire album; it is bop after bop. (If you're wondering, I think "Innocent" is the skip). Every song is just fun! I should also point out that this is also my favorite in part because Taylor said it was inspired by theater/Broadway.
2. 1989--I'm gonna be honest and say that I'm ashamed to have sort of slept on this album for so long. Don't get me wrong--I listened to and enjoyed it a lot when it came out, but I always sort of automatically pushed it further down on my list in favor of my 3rd choice because I liked the songs on my 3rd choice more. But now that I'm older and my music taste has somewhat evolved, I think I can say that 1989 is my 2nd favorite. There are truly no skips on this album. Yes, I know I said SN has a skip, but that album holds a special place in my heart so it gets number 1. I was thinking it over today, and while Taylor has always been amazing, I think this is the album that launched her into superstardom. We, her fans, knew she could do anything, but she still shocked us all by making the transition to an entirely pop album. Remember the "Blank Space" and "Bad Blood" music videos? I still think those are two fo my favorite of her mvs, though LWYMMD is a close second.
3. Red--Oh, my beloved. This album is wonderful. I have a lot of memories associated with this one, particularly watching the WANGBT music video and the IKYWT parody with the fucking goat that makes me laugh so hard even to this day. I am SO pumped for TV in November!! And while, yes, "All Too Well" is my favorite song on the album (and my fave TS song overall), "Holy Ground" is slept on and amazing.
4. folklore--This album is probably the most meaningful to me of them all just because of when it came out. We as an entire global community were struggling, and I know I had immense privilege to have been healthy and safe during that time. Still, like everyone else, I was depressed, lonely, and felt trapped inside my home and inside my mind. I will never forget listening to this album in my room and gasping when I heard TIMT. Not long after this album came out, I also lost my family dog, and this album was essential in helping me grieve. This album saved my sanity and gave me a cathartic outlet. I will be forever grateful to Taylor for writing it.
5. Reputation--This is another one for which I have a lot of memories. I will never forget when the LWYMMD music video came out and the world lost its entire mind. Taylor said there are still easter eggs we missed and I want someone to find them please and thank you. There are a few songs on this album that I'm not obsessed with, but the storytelling is so cohesive and creative. On the surface, one might think Taylor was being petty or whiny, but if you look closer--and remember the utter hell she was going through at the time--I think there are deeper meanings than her just getting back at Kim and Kanye.
6. Fearless--Oh, this album. It has some of her most iconic songs: YBWM, "White Horse," "Love Story"," "Forever and Always," etc. I truly wish I could tie this one with Rep, but I think Rep edges this one out *just* barely with songwriting/lyrical quality. I also don't know if I'll ever fully get over the fact that she kept "Mr. Perfectly Fine" from us for so long, but I suppose I can consider the 10 min "All Too Well" on Red TV to be proper repayment. ;)
7. evermore--I could not believe my eyes when she announced this album. How can this woman write this fast and this well!! I will never forget listening to "champagne problems," "no body, no crime," and "tolerate it" in particular. I ranked this after reputation just bc I think I enjoy listening to Rep more, but some of the songwriting on this album is *chefs kiss.*
8. Lover--I know, I know, I'm sorry. I don't want to put this one so low on the list but I just kind of can't put it any higher? I really love some of the songs on this album, but SYGB is too sad for me, "London Boy" kinda annoys me I'm sorry, and I just never really got into INTHAF or "Afterglow." But, that said, every other song on the album is a bop, even ME!, although I listen to the live version over the studio recording. It's a great album though.
9. Taylor Swift (Debut album)--I feel a little bad ranking this so low but I cannot honestly tell you that this album is better than her others, and something has to be last on the list. There are also some great, classic songs on this album. So, instead of being critical, I'm instead going to say that I remember vividly seeing a snippet of "Teardrops On My Guitar" advertised on Disney Channel for Radio Disney. It makes me smile to think of how far she's come since then.
And that concludes this episode of The Phoebe Delia Show! Tune in next time where I post some other self-indulgent opinion about one of my interests and hope it reaches people who care to read it :)
Send me an ask about Harry Potter, broadway/musicals, The West Wing, and/or Taylor Swift! Or just about life in general :).
Also, I have a playlist of my 99 most listened-to songs of the year so far. Pick a number 1--99 and send me an ask and I'll write you a fic based on it!
