that scene in tlo where thalia tells percy he can't start feeling sorry for luke bc luke made his choices. and thalia reveals that the reason they couldn't make it to camp in time for all of them to make it to camp was bc luke kept picking fights. and annabeth never saw this as wrong bc luke was her hero. so thalia had to pick up the pieces. and percy thinking both that luke was put in a cruel position and that luke was putting others in a cruel position. and percy is the only character who understood both sides of luke bc annabeth sees only the best of him and thalia sees only the worst. and that's why percy is the prophecy kid and the one who gives luke the knife. bc annabeth had spent the entire series essentially giving luke the knife when he didn't deserve it. and thalia was never going to give luke the knife. but percy is the only one who can see exactly when luke deserves the knife.

oh and ANOTHER interesting thing that Riordan does with Percy in the tartarus chapters to never ever bring up again is Percy achieving seemingly impossible(?) physical feats.
Like when Percy kills Arachne, he does so so quickly that Annabeth can't comprehend it. She literally asks him "How did you move so fast?" and he just shrugs and is like "Gotta watch out for each other right? Anyways..." and immediately changes the subject.
Then later he jumps over a river with Annabeth on his back and again, right before it, she's like "How are you going to do this??? It's twenty feet across. How can you possibly do that?" and he straight up is just like "yeah I can do it just close your eyes" and then does it???
of course these moments happen during Annabeth's pov so we'll never know for sure but its just so fascinating cause Riordan goes out of his way to indicate that Percy was displaying strength, speed, agility, etc way beyond his typical threshold while also implying that not only was Percy aware of it but he was either trying to downplay it to Annabeth or avoid discussing it altogether.

If Jason had been written to have atleast somewhat of a jealousy streak of Percy, then it would have made him more human tbh. Ironically I feel like the fandom would've been much more empathetic to his character, if he acknowledged that he envied Percy a little and then came to terms with it. We know that Jason's fear of being 2nd best is a very integral part of his character, I mean, Gaia taunting him with that in his nightmares was enough to reduce him into tears. and that's the ONLY time we've even remotely seen him cry. Percy had so many things Jason didn't have, a loving mom, a loving girlfriend who took a knife for him and never broke his heart, a loving camp that looked for him endlessly after he went missing, people ACTUALLY wanting him to survive because they care about him not because they need him for glory, etc. and if im being honest Poseidon wasn't even that bad of a father (for a big three god, atleast) tbh he still came to percy's 15th birthday, invited him to fishing, genuinely loved sally, she was probably the only mortal he fell in love with and it stayed that way, he was never rude to percy and stuck up for him etc. not tryna say percy had it easy or anything ofc he didnt, but there is no point in denying that he had a MUCH better support system than jason ever had.
The fact that Jason despite having none of these things was not even remotely envious of Percy made him appear like a bland robot with no emotional baggage
Compare this to Nico, who was rightfully a little jealous/idolizing Percy while simultaneously having a crush on him, also a little jealous of Jason because he was "the golden boy" who everyone respected, it made him have SO much depth and the fandom loves him (rightfully so)
also, leo. He was resentful of Percy up until blood of Olympus because of how everyone loved him, how Calypso fell for him almost immediately, etc. it's very realistic.Jason feeling a little resentful of Percy and then later talking it out would've made his character much less of a shallow stereotypical nice guy that ppl dislike.
maybe Rick could've expanded on Jason's jealousy of how quickly camp Jupiter accepted Percy and how quickly Reyna made him praetor, when jason himself had dedicated his whole life to it and was only made praetor in the last couple months, how camp Jupiter and his supposed friends never held a memorial for him even after they thought he was dead, etc. Also how Percy spent more time with thalia than jason ever did, we know he did feel a little envious since he mentioned how much he wished thalia looked for him the way she was looking for percy
I would've loved to see Jason being a little cold to Reyna too because of this and then they later talk it out, since it's VERY realistic, I was surprised with how quickly jason shrugged the whole Percy- being- a -praetor thing off, I thought he'd have felt a little betrayed by Reyna considering that they were childhood friends, and reyna never really sent a search party or something after him like annabeth did, gods, the amount of angst potential this man had i love him ugh

my take away from the pjo show now that it’s over (renew it for season 2 disney istg) is that I NEED Percy to hug Annabeth
but bestie? you may enquire, percy has hugged annabeth in the show multiple times?
and to that I say, no Percy has hugged her back multiple times. But Percy hasn’t initiated ANY hug. And I need him to
which is also one of the reasons I need it to be renewed for five seasons, because I feel like they have set it up PERFECTLY for Percy initiating a percabeth hug first to be so so iconic/impactful/life changing/edit-worthy/I will never ever ever be the same
(I also think that Walker “it’s all about the eyes” Scobell would EAT IT UP)

Just gonna say to all my very excited Percy Jackson friends, whilst you're waiting impatiently for the new episode a week from now, that if you are perhaps interested in watching and reading a British version of Percabeth and a solid and wonderful trio who go on ghostly quests around London and save the world, you should check out Lockwood & Co. on Netflix. It already got canceled, which is tragic, but the season that exists is an incredible adaptation of the first two books in the series, and the book series as a whole is fantastic. Rick Riordan is quoted on all the covers of my copies, talking about how great he thinks they are.

Here's a reminder that Frank does not have adhd or dyslexia like most demigods, so he was stuck on the Argo II with at least five to six other teenagers with adhd at all times. I wonder what that was like for him...

the percabeth kiss, annabeth’s pov
a/n: i started this a while ago, so the beginning may not be the best. also it will switch from using capital letters to all lowercase (idk if that bothers anyone, just putting it out there). also this was not proofread!!
Annabeth’s POV:
“Hey” I said, sitting next to Percy on the bench in the dining pavilion. “Happy Birthday” I held out a cupcake with blue icing, and it looked very messy. Percy stared at me with confusion “What?” He said. “It’s august 18th, your birthday, right?” He looked surprised that I remembered, but then his shock turned to happiness as he smiled at me. “Make a wish” I told him. Instead, he asked “did you bake this yourself?” I smiled. “Tyson helped” I replied. “Oh that explains why it looks like a chocolate brick, with extra blue cement.” He said, laughing and smiling. I joined him, and this was the happiest we’ve been in a while, with the war and all that. He eventually stopped and blew out the candle on top of the “brick”. We split it and half and ate it. “You saved the world” I said. “We saved the world” he said, and I looked over at him, seeing the blue frosting on his face and the small smile he made after the last thing he said. “And Rachel is the oracle” I started “which means she won’t be dating anybody.” I smiled to myself, thinking maybe Percy would finally take his attention away from Rachel. “You don’t sound disappointed.” He said chuckling and grinning. I shrugged it off and said “oh, I don’t care.” “Uh-huh” was the next remark out of his mouth. “You got something to say to me, seaweed brain?” I laughed, raising my eyebrow. He did that cute thing where he nervously rubbed the back of his neck. “You’d probably kick my butt” he said, nervously showing that lopsided grin that I loved so much. “You know I’d kick your butt!” I said giggling (which was very unlike me) and punched his arm playfully. He licked the frosting off his lips and brushed the cake off of his hands. “When I was in the river styx, turning invulnerable,” he paused for a second looking at me “Nico said I had to concentrate on one thing that kept me anchored to the world, that made me want to stay mortal.” He stopped again, this time taking a longer pause. “Yeah? I said, fighting the urge to look at him because I knew if I did, I would do something impulsive. “Then up on Olympus,” he continued “when they wanted to make me a god and stuff, I kept thinking-” I smirked and said “Oh you so wanted to!” “Well maybe a little,” a small blush started to creep across his cheeks “but I didn’t, because I thought I didn’t want things to stay the same for eternity, because things could always get better. And I was thinking…” he stopped, looking nervous. I turned fully and made eye contact with him “anyone in particular?” I asked, my voice soft as I was trying not to laugh. “You’re laughing at me!” He complained “I am not!” I said smiling. “You are so not making this easy!” Then I laughed softly, and looked him dead in the eyes as I wrapped my arms around his neck. “I am never, ever going to make things easy for you Seaweed Brain, get used to it.” Then, feeling it was the right time, I leaned forward and kissed him. Not hard, but softly and gently. He didn’t do anything for a second or two, and I started to think I had made the wrong choice. Then, he started to kiss me back, slowly, and wrapped his arms around my waist, pulling me closer. It was the perfect moment and I wished it could last forever. But of course, as demigods, we never really get any peace. “Finally!” I heard someone yell, as Clarisse came into view, along with some other campers. “These love birds need to cool off!” Both me and Percy’s faces turned red, realising that all of them had just seen us kiss. “The canoe lake!” Connor Stoll yelled. Then, all the campers that were watching came out and picked us up and carried us down the hill. Thank the gods, they kept us close enough to hold hands. Percy and I started laughing, still bright red, as we were carried down the hill. We held hands until they threw us in the water. Then, Percy, being the son of Poseidon, made an air bubble for us at the bottom of the lake, which dried us off completely. he swam towards me and slowly wrapped his arms around my waist as i put my hands on his chest.
(i’m working on a part 2!)

I'm thinking about Thalia Grace.
In the Percy Jackson TV show, the shades who go to Asphodel don't meander aimlessly for all eternity. Instead, they physically transform into the asphodel plants. And that got me thinking about Thalia -- a tree with a human soul. Laid down her life at the age of twelve, and now trapped in an evergreen limbo, straddling the line between life and death, just as the shades in Asphodel are somewhere between Paradise and Punishment.
Then (spoilers for a 15-year-old children's novel), she's restored. She wakes up. Her life is her own again, but at the same time, it isn't. There's a prophecy, see, and the prophecy says that she will do ... something when she turns sixteen that will either save or doom the world. So she comes up with a clever solution: she joins Artemis's Hunt and takes the eternal youth that goes along with it. She is now frozen at fifteen years, 364 days old until she leaves the Hunt. She trusts Percy to be a worthy prophecy hero, and watches him grow up.
Two years pass. The prophecy is fulfilled, and she no longer needs to be fifteen indefinitely. But she stays with the Hunters. And why wouldn't she? She's made friends among them. Her long-lost brother returns to her, and he's exactly her age now. She gets to watch him make friends, fall in love, and decide what he wants out of his life. Sure, there's another villain who wants to end the world, but she's beaten that before. She can do it again.
And so it goes. Year after year. Her brother dies barely a year after finding him again. She doesn't even get to say goodbye. And there's another villain who wants to end the world. She has to set aside her feelings, her human heart in an immortal body, and set things right once more.
She stays with the Hunters. Why? The prophecy has come and gone. She's already outlived the only family she had left. And she remains in this loop, somewhere between life and death. How much more of this will she take? How many more friends and loved ones will she lose? Eventually, all of them. Percy and Annabeth are on track towards their happily ever after, but they'll die someday. Thalia will be alone, no different from when she was a tree on Half-Blood Hill.

Jason knew. He knew, the moment Caligula's spear had passed through his course of vision. He knew that he was finally going let go. As the spear pierced through his body, Jason couldn't have been happier, it was all over. He was covered in a bed of fresh leaking blood, the life slowly ebbing out of him as his veins pulsated. He would never have to continue living his horrible life anymore. He could finally rest. Jason had nothing to hold on to anymore, his anchor had dropped finally losing its purpose. His best friend Leo was some place else Jason didn't know of, his good friend Reyna had stopped talking to him, the girl of his dreams had decided that he wasn't the one. What more was there to live for? Even as he heard the screams of Piper and Apollo, Jason did not fight the urge to die. His blue eyes were fixed on the sky, the same sky that he had come from. He knew his friends needed him, he knew they would all be devastated to lose him. yet this one time, he didn't think of them. he didn't hold it all together like he had done his whole life, he was selfless since the moment he arrived at the wolf house at the ripe age of two, always wanting to please others, never refusing to help anyone, yet, in his last breath, Jason Grace was finally selfish enough to think of himself, he didn't want to live his life for others anymore, he wanted to put his sword down finally and plunge into eternal peace. And that's what he did. Jason Grace's eyes fluttered shut. He even had the urge to smile, a genuine smile of relief. Jason Grace was finally going to eternal slumber, the soothing thoughts of reaching elysium had made the pain in Jason's body evaporate, and there was no coming back, yet the son of Jupiter was feeling the happiest he's ever felt.

I just really need to get this off my chest because it’s making me angry.

Chapter XVIII, Annabeth, Mark of Athena
This chapter is in Annabeth’s POV. Meaning it’s what she thinks/thought. Meaning it was her interpretation of what he said in TLO. Meaning there could’ve been other ways to interpret it, but she chose to interpret it romantically.
Maybe it’s due to the time he came to her house, saying to her that he wanted to run away with her, just like old times. Meaning as a family, because in the old times, they were a family. That should be simple to understand.
I (and others) interpreted Luke’s ‘question to Annabeth’ line in TLO as him saying that he could’ve just wanted to know if she liked him, as he couldn’t have know if she didn’t tell him. He was just wondering.
Another interpretation is that he asked that question in a platonic way or in a family-way sense. Not romantically. The line could’ve been another way of saying, “Are we still a family?” Or something similar to that.
Riordan could’ve made it clearer in TLO in which way Luke meant it— maybe leave us more information for a clearer inference?
A lot of things are going through my mind right now, sorry. If you read through all of this and made it to the end, thank you?
