the black and white idea of morals is one of the most dangerous things. it is the reason that so many wars have been/are being fought.
for instance the israel-hamas war.
all over social media there is this idea that you must pick a side, israel or hamas. both are bigoted murderous organizations.
I am not going to pick between lying racist dictatorship and lying antisemitic dictatorship.
this idea of choosing a good side and bad side is why real ceasefires with proper requirements are not being put in place (several have been put in place recently, but each time one or both sides disregard it because the UN wont properly do it and then the other fights back). it is why people aren't focusing on demolishing these organizations and freeing the innocent civilians, but instead demolishing entire peoples, labeling them as "evil" despite no support for "their side"s crimes
Caring/Worrying for Israeli citizens≠Supporting Israel's government
Supporting palestinians≠Supporting Hamas
Hamas being bad≠Israel being good
Israel being bad≠Hamas being good
All of these statements are important, and without accepting them all, this war will end with a genocide on either or both sides.
As said, do not choose between being racist and being antisemitic. Instead, choose being anti-dictatorship, anti-war, and anti-genocide.

Little vent art and I'm gonna rant a little.
Philippine elections is in 3 days, and for the past weeks we non-legal voters are told to keep our keep our mouth shut about the matter. Of course that doesn't stop many of the youth to speak up, but being told that our opinions don't matter is just unfair.
Do you know how scary this whole thing is? How people are openly choosing corrupt people to lead a country?
No. Because for 21 years, my parents, my people, did not endure a tyrant, a dictator, a murderer, and a thief, only for you to tell me to shut up.
We will never ever let that happen again.

"Ahhh, Perry the Platypus! Behold, my Anti-Amatonormativity!... Inator.
With this, I shall turn every human being in the Tri-state Area into aromantic!
...Or polyamorous. Or both. I couldn't reaaally decide which one I liked better so I just let the machine randomize it.
The point is! Capitalism here will eventually cease to function since it can no longer exploit the overrated nuclear family dynamics as the aros and polyamorous are known to thrive best in the mutual aid co-op environment.
With their control over the means of production, the state power will be rightfully returned to the people, and I, the hero who makes that happen, shall be hailed by them as the dictator of the proletariat of Tri-state Area!"

if sasuke was the main character then he probably would've been a LOT more sympathised with than he is now (which is to say rarely). like the narrative wouldn't even need to change to show his pains or 'his side of the story', bc it does that plenty. it's just that he is not the main character. and idk what it is about our human minds but we tend to sympathise with main characters automatically (unless ofc you go off the rockers insane and do something like obliterate almost everyone from the planet *cough* eren yeager *cough*)
an instance that comes to my mind where this does happen is with lelouch from code geass. while i don't agree with his character motivations, people generally do sympathise with him as he is the mc and as viewers we know he isn't inherently evil. sasuke's goal towards the end is slightly similar but ofc people love to hate him so they don't even try to understand where he is coming from.
my point is, most people while engaging with the naruto story don't read between the lines and so don't see how traumatised and in pain sasuke is and hence don't understand his character motivations. heck, they don't understand a single bit about him and so they automatically hate him, as he is supposedly going against the main character's goals.
which is really sad given all that he has been through.

"Once upon a time, Liberty was within the reach of everyone. However, the people did not value it because they had enough. They believed that Life could go on without Liberty, and as such, the Tyrant hoodwinked the people into believing that he saved them from the danger called Liberty. And presented himself as the Supreme Savior Leader, and his newly established Dark World Order as Life.
-And people believed him."

Today is Super Tuesday. It's more than just presidential primaries.
Last night Rachel Maddow spotlighted some of the wack Republican candidates and wove them together to describe how bizarrely extremist the GOP has become. This is NOT your grandmother's Republican Party which gave us sane people like Gerald Ford or George Pataki.
If you are not taking the threat seriously then you just haven't been paying attention.
Ms. Maddow goes on to say that it's up to us to stop a MAGA Republican takeover of the US. We cannot rely on some legal gimmick to stop Trump.
In the words of civil rights icon Rev. Jesse Jackson: "Nobody will save us from us but us."

anyways now that I'm back on this site, let it be well fucking known that this filipino musical theatre rambler absolutely abhors the Here Lies Love musical and I am absolutely ashamed that it is gonna be known as the first Broadway musical with an all-filipino/fil-am cast BECAUSE GLORIFYING A PERSON (imelda marcos) INVOLVED IN A CONJUGAL DICTATORSHIP (wife of ferdinand marcos) THAT CAUSED HUNDREDS OF DEATHS AND AN ECONOMIC CRISIS DUE TO ILLEGALLY ACCUMULATED WEALTH FROM PHILIPPINE TAXES ESPECIALLY WHILE SAID PERSON IS STILL ALIVE WITH HER SON (ferdinand "bongbong" marcos jr) BACK IN POWER IS ALL SORTS OF WRONG

The west needs to get off it's high horse when it comes to democracy, the west is not democratic it's just dictatorship with another face. A dictatorship that is less obvious.
Think about it, there are two mainstream parties usually. Both of them practically are the same and work together. And the minority parties aren't unique either. A lot of them just exist to continue the delusion of there being democracy.
You can see it in book shops when you go into the politics section. You will have huge sections where you can read Barack Obama, Kennedy, Nixon, Gouh Whitlam etc, they are all mainstream politicians and in the corner you might find a bit of Marx and Engels. It's silent censorship that you only notice if you oppose the government.

To my moots, followers and friends. I know you follow me for my content or whatever other reason. And I know you must have noticed the sudden number of posts based on Portuguese elections and are probably gonna skip this post. If you're still reading this, thank you.
Portugal clearly isn't the only one heading this way. You may have heard of Vox [Spanish far right party] as well and maybe other countries. Sure there are wars raging. There is a lot going on and you'll probably think "what does it even matter?" Because many people do, because true, we are [thankfully] not going through any of that. But what I want to bring to attention is important at least to me. And I wanted to share with everyone. Because oppression still matters.
25th April marks the year my grandparents – minus my ugly ass paternal grandpa (an oppressor working for the dictator), as well as my grandparents' parents were freed from the dark clutches of the reign of terror known as the New State.
50 years later, it's happening again. AD won and Chega wants a coalition. If he doesn't achieve so, and Montenegro continues with his original plan of leading a minority government, Ventura [CHEGA] claims to shoot down any bills he may want to pass – which is petty imo. But you know politics is politics.
Eventually, AD is gonna have to go. Minority governments don't last. So Portugal may be stuck with Chega at some point in the next 5 years. My home will no longer be a democracy but will be a fascist reign of terror once again because no doubt. Estado Novo [The New State] will be back, if Ventura really brings it back. Censorships. Health care will totally change. Immigrants will be forced to go back to their home countries. Romi people will likely be dislodged. Abortion laws will change. Trans people will not be allowed to be who they are.
All because young people like us let themselves fool themselves into believing that André Ventura is right. Maybe because their romi neighbor made them mad last week so they voted Chega, whatever petty reason. Or PSD messed them up, I don't care.
They haven't learned. Surely their grandparents told them stories about how worthless living was under Salazar. Or some might have even died because people like my paternal grandpa hunted them down for being anti-fascist. And yet, you still vote for the same man who thinks women are beneath him. Who made a fuss over BE's leader wearing bright red lipstick and shamed her [Marisa Matias] for it.
I am disappointed in my nation. We are welcoming those people into our arms, not even caring where we are voting and God I feel disgusted that people these days are so stupid that they vote another party out of revenge? So what? There's like 10 parties. You could have picked another.
We are disappointing our ancestors and Mario Soares. The MFA [Movimento das Forças Armadas], every single person who fought 48 years of oppression and censorship.
Maybe I got some facts wrong – because i am not perfect and i am trying to merely educate myself. The future is uncertain. That is for sure. Because genuinely, I am ashamed to believe this country really lost its sense. Our ancestors deserved better.

I'm pretty desperate. Do you know where to find free pdfs of books talking about martial law in the Philippines? I want to download as many as I can.
Oh dang. I learned about martial law in elementary so I don't have pdf copies, BUT! Thanks to my older sister collecting a butt ton of things about the Marcoses, convictions and cases and all! I'm not sure if this is complete (and it's not exactly a book), but it's a good read :))
Here you go <3

IDK which Baby Boomer needs to hear this but communism is NOT interchangeable with authoritarianism or dictatorship.
At its core, communism aims to achieve a classless, stateless society without hierarchies. Without classes or states, the means of production are communally owned.
Knowing this, it's obvious communism is fundamentally incompatible with dictatorship or authoritarianism. These two political systems MUST operate within a state framework because the state provides the institutional means to exercise and maintain power. Likewise, class dynamics help to establish hierarchies and maintain the concentration of power at the top.
Now, I know... there are authoritarian countries like the Soviet Union, China, and North Korea that are labeled as "communist", but they are not practicing communism. Rather, they're appropriating elements of the communist ideology. However, these deviations from Marxist principles betrays the core ideology.
To put it into perspective, it would be like saying an economic system that doesn't prioritize profit is "capitalist". It fundamentally doesn't make sense because it deviates significantly from the traditional understanding of capitalism.
Thus, equating communism with dictatorship is a misunderstanding of what true communism entails...And doesn't this make you curious about WHY there is this misconception about communism in the U.S.? Why is it believed to be synonymous with authoritarianism or dictatorship?
Well, it stems from Cold War-era propaganda, capitalist biases, media spins, and what we're taught in school. There's been a long history of emphasizing the authoritarian aspects of "communist" regimes without distinguishing between the philosophy from how it's botched applications. That's pretty irresponsible, don't ya think?
Now, if you're a smart cookie, you'll ask yourself, "Who benefits from the widespread association of communism with dictatorship and repression?"
Well, that'd be the people at the top of the capitalist pyramid (and spoiler: you're NOT in that club). By making communism out to be a boogeyman, the folks at the top discourage us from questioning the status quo and thinking about alternatives that might shake up the current pecking order.
So, the capitalist class equating communism with dictatorship is like using fear mongering to keep things just as they are... which, if you think about it, sounds pretty authoritarian, doesn't it?

« The truth is that Donald Trump undermined faith in our elections in his false bid to retain the presidency. He sparked an insurrection intended to overthrow our government and keep himself in power. No president in our history has done worse.
This is not subjective. We all saw it. Plenty of leaders today try to convince the masses we did not see what we saw, but our eyes don’t deceive. (If leaders began a yearslong campaign today to convince us that the Baltimore bridge did not collapse Tuesday morning, would you ever believe them?) Trust your eyes. Trump on Jan. 6 launched the most serious threat to our system of government since the Civil War. You know that. You saw it.
[ ... ]
As for those who equate Trump and Joe Biden, that’s false equivalency. Biden has done nothing remotely close to the egregious, anti-American acts of Trump. We can debate the success and mindset of our current president, as we have about most presidents in our lifetimes, but Biden was never a threat to our democracy. Trump is. He is unique among all American presidents for his efforts to keep power at any cost.
Personally, I find it hard to understand how Americans who take pride in our system of government support Trump. All those soldiers who died in World War II were fighting against the kind of regime Trump wants to create on our soil. How do they not see it? »
— Chris Quinn, editor of the Cleveland Plain Dealer.
Exactly. Our ancestors risked their lives to stop the sort of totalitarianism represented by Donald Trump and his mentor Vladimir Putin. The least we can do is risk some minor inconvenience by registering to vote and casting our ballots.
Be a voter | Vote Save America
As former Labor Secretary Robert Reich has reminded us, "History shows there are no “one day” dictatorships." And once a dictatorship is installed, people rarely have a chance to get rid of it by simply voting it out. Dictatorships are far easier to prevent than to end.
