genuinely never seen anything like hilda. its so unique with its limited color palette, character animation, shape language, lines, everything, not to mention the voice acting, characterization, world building etc etc. i could write multiple essays about how awesome this cartoon is and it wouldnt do it justice

TELL ME ABOUT SASKIA IVE GONE TO LONG LETTING THAT FIRE CHARACTER DESIGN GO UNAPPRICATED
AAAAH IM GLAD YOU LIKE THE DESIGN!! BUT she and Seasaidh desperately need a rework, here’s a little doodle of how that might look for Kia -
Tumblr media
My baby. Lomve her. ANYWAYS SOME STUFF ABOUT HER!
Saskia is the biological child of Johanna and Kaisa, born when Hilda is around 15 probably. How is she their biological child? Magic!
As a magical contruct, magic comes naturally to Saskia. There was probably a lot of mishaps as a baby with her being unable to control said magic and it coming out in chaotic ways, but as a teenager she’s got most of her natural ability under control and it only comes out when she’s experiencing extreme emotions. Her natural magic is fairly basic, but she could be a very successful witch if she put her mind to it given her natural advantage. Trouble is…she doesn’t, she’s not interested in magic, or anything to do with adventure really
Saskia is sort of the black sheep of The Pearson family, i.e. she’s the ‘normal’ one. She doesn’t crave adventure in the great wide somewhere or powerful magic beyond her reach, she just wants a normal life. She’s a teenager, she finds the notoriety her family has gained due to their adventures more embarrassing than anything else
She’s got kind of a “ugh, MUM you’re so embarrassing!” vibe and is pretty closed off, but deep down she loves her family more than anything
It’s Kaisa’s first time as a parent, and as someone who still feels as if she failed at being a Witch she’s determined to ensure Saskia never feels that way. Plus, magic and Witchcraft is part of her culture and she wants to share it with her daughter - this results in her pushing her to learn magic even though Saskia doesn’t really want to, and drives a wedge between them for a bit. They work through it eventually though, and as Saskia gets older she comes to appreciate her weird family and the natural magic within her that she once tried to hide. She never becomes studying Witch or anything, but overtime she and Kaisa find common ground in participating in the less ‘grind to become the most powerful witch possible’ aspects of Witchcraft
As for what she does become, she’s a writer! I like to give every Pearson family member a creative talent that they shine in (Johanna is ofc a Graphic Designer, Hilda canonically keeps a sketchbook but I also headcanon that she grows up to be a wildlife photographer, and Lauren is a painter!), and Saskia’s is writing. Her main avenue is poetry, but she enjoys writing any genre of fiction. She’s a massive bookworm as well
By the time she and her sister are hitting their teen years, Lauren has probably moved out, and whilst Hilda might not have she definitely would be spending a lot of time away adventuring (though they both come back home frequently, Lauren for one lives like 5 minutes away). With her older sisters not living at home, Saskia considers herself the eldest sibling and the responsible one in the house, and doesn’t like being reminded that she isn’t. She probably tells people at school she’s the oldest too, half in attempt to make sure they don’t figure out who her family are
She’s a grumpy baby but she really does love her family and she’s my baby and I love her a lot

'*•.¸♡DEBUT CHURCH !!!♡¸.•*'
Chapel of Christ the Redeemer
location: Tampines (St Hilda's Sec there) service timings: 0830 & 1015 on Sundays for English services, 1015 on Sundays for Children Sunday School, 1530 on Saturdays for Youth Service here's their website for more info!
⚝──⭒─⭑─⭒──⚝
'*•.¸♡overall impressions (rated by 🌘, 🍳, and 💀!)♡¸.•*'
1. friendliness
🌘: 8/10 - ushers were open and took initiative to help us
🍳: 7/10 - ushers were nice but felt a tiny bit intimidated by them
💀: RIP
2. openness
(we didn't get to ask qns bcs SOMEONE (🍳) WAS TOO COWARDLY)
3. service
🌘: 5/10 - p basic - songs, prayers, slides
🍳: 5/10 - idk what's considered normal but yes seems cool enough!!
💀: RIP
4. programs
🌘: 9/10 - they have a brochure of the events they have upcoming and its rlly clear. from what I see they have a variety of events and stuffs for all ages so I'd say it's pretty enriching. I've never gone to their events before though so...
🍳: 8/10 - programmes look fun, they were talking about a church camp so thats COOL
💀: RIP
5. cult tendency
🌘: 1/10 - not really a cult vibe for me, but maybe that's cause we didn't raise our hands when they asked newcomers to do so, so we didn't get indoctrinated lmao
🍳: 3/10 - real
💀: RIP

Tumblr media
🌘: Pretty cool vibes, the interior is not particularly dim and their stained glass cross and the table with candles they had set up was what got me thinking it looked cool.
The pastor is funny and has a friendly demeanour, no complaints on that end.
The service songs are acceptable. Its the usual stuff praisng God and Jesus, but they had these 3 singers on stage and it sounded good.
It can be abit hard to find since you have to navigate through the entrance of St Hilda's Secondary School, but as long as you're not blur (IM LOOKING AT U 🍳 HOW THE BLOODY HELL DID U END UP IN ANOTHER CHURCH???) it's pretty accessible.
Not very cult like (not anymore than a normal church, anyways). 🍳 was a coward so we didn't get to ask the pastor questions or anything, but they did ask if there were any newcomers (and they asked newcomers to fill up a form that wanted our contact no. and email and address but...yk...from what ik thats pretty standard for churches) and the ushers were generally helpful and friendly.
The service itself was fairly basic, nothing that particularly stood out. They seemed really bonded as a community and they had plenty of events for youth and families both. They had an online brochure of their ongoing and upcoming events and everything so I'd say their events game is strong.
Overall it's not something I particularly want to spend time at, but I'd probably go more if there was less singing and more exploring the text of the bible, because I find the way they interpret it interesting.
Tumblr media
🍳: DEBUT CHURCH!!! (i got lost twice otw) Stained glass was COOL but other than that interior was pretty basic. THEY HAVE A LIVE BAND THAT IS VERY EPIC and the singers voices were so angelic??? Apparently there was an event that day but I wasn't really listening but I think the singers were from another church.
Pastor was funny af tbh love that!!! Has a very community gathering kinda vibe, very bonded and friendly and someone that helped guide me there cos i was LOST ! Meditation parts were lowkey therapeutic felt like asmr.
Overall good experience? Probably just not used to going to church though cos I nearly fell asleep halfway the sermons.
Tumblr media
RIP 💀
we will remember you always 😔😔😔 - 🌘 and 🍳

incoming uni lore rambles under the cut i realize after writing this out that this is very long and incomprehensible. somehow even more incomprehensible than usual lol
im still mad about hyde being written pretty out of character at some points in bbtag but at the same time it makes total sense from a uni lore standpoint with the whole exs influences your personality thing which actually makes it worse. i mean it could be an excuse for changes in writing over time but it's still really tragic. for characters like hilda and merkava (maybe kuon too) you really gotta wonder what their personalities were like before ...stuff happened
i mean theres so much inconsistency with like the actual world stuff of uni, like it's been stated multiple times that you cant like. die fr fr in the hollow night but other statements say you can. and its not even canon changing over time they basically alternate explanations. and also parts of inbirth-ness apparently carry over to the waking world? messed up being basically like. half of you isn't even "real", not alive nor dead. idk why it gives you cool powers but lets not focus on that though like if we were talking about someone whos lost their exs or void stuff or whatever bc they dont use it for roughly a decade (yes thats a thing that happens) still. you dont get your real, human existence back. youre just a vessel. who knows the lasting effects of exs either. presumably it has some mental and physical effects on your body (or i guess vessel) considering other contexts
man deep uni lore is screwed. in my heart i know merkava is just a silly dude and not a man cursed to share a body with a horrendous, bloodthirsty beast, being forced to see through its unblinking eyes as it, as he, preys upon innocent, lost, terrified people. maybe even people he once knew even if he doesnt recognize it. that's his entire life. sleep, maim, repeat. no break from it, only able to dread the next time this wild animal of a body gets peckish. can't even starve himself to death, and god knows if that'd even work in the first place
he just has nothing else to do, before the events of his chronicle mode he presumably hasnt spoken to anyone who hasnt wanted to slay him, seeing him as nothing more than the beast he appears to be. hasnt been given an ounce of kindness, he hasnt even been treated as a human, a man. hell if he knows if he's even human at all anymore. he can't even remember anything besides all the violence, maybe he's just a beast with delusions of a previous life
random bout of prose aside, deep uni lore is either something similar to "hyde's powers and everything are probably very related to voids and considering past foreshadowing. Oh No" or "merkava canonically uses timotei shampoo" and theres absolutely no in-between its so funny
speaking of void stuff and also the insulator. hey did you know that the insulator is basically just a normal blade but It Just Explodes with EXS or something. also the insulator is red and black bc raw EXS is red-ish usually? also hyde's favorite color is black :) (not entirely sure about these its been a while since ive transcribed and translated the information station stream this info is from)
either way this also implies that the colors of the rest of the cast's abilities are just their favorite colors which is an absolutely incredible piece of information
also hyde can summon the insulator from any surface on his body(? either his body or just like any surface idk again the devstream isnt clear lets just go with his body), not just his palms which is how he usually summons it. probably a good party trick (see below)
Tumblr media
anyways yeah uni lore is wild. dont be like me and dont waste your sanity on stuff like this 👍

anyway i’ve been playing three houses on maddening lately because i hate myself, and i also hated looking at tier lists that put some characters who are actually quite bad for high difficulty up top, i made my own tier list of suggested feth characters for if you do a maddening run. this is really just so i can scream about what characters i think are best (spoiler alert: it’s lysithea)
so, here we go, tell’s three houses tier list!
disclaimer: based on personal experience, not all characters have been used on maddening, but i have played the game like... eight times. on my ninth run. so i have some pretty decent data on majority of the characters.
tier is determined by how easy a character is to use, how much investment they require, and stat growths. crests+relics also influence this, since people who can use relics effectively are better. the game tells me not to judge based on crests, but come on!
lords are not included, jeritza is also not because he’s CF post skip exclusive, but come on, we all know where he’d place anyway
the real tier list is this: if you’re playing on normal or hard, literally anyone is fine. follow your heart. invest in who you like. on maddening, you unfortunately need to be a little more discerning. and sometimes, you just get rng screwed, even with the best, so rip lmao
TOP TIER (FOR COOL KIDS ONLY)
-lysithea: the coolest kid, doesn’t need a bed time. obvious bc her spell list and stats and access to relic are great. also look at her. shes bappy. she says so herself in her support with cyril (the only valid cyril support) all jokes aside, she can go down the basic mage line and mow down anyone who comes within her insane range. she also does well as a valkyrie, but with the speed penalty, i don’t recommend her staying in the class for long. just get uncanny blow! then hades will never miss!
-felix: he may be a shadow the hedgehog motherfucker but he has one important thing that shadow doesnt: crest of fraldarius. i guess shadow has a gun, though. felix is just straightforward gameplay baby. you send him at something and it dies. go crest boy go!
-mercedes: im legally obligated to put mercie in here because of her personal, her crest, and fortify. although restore is also super neat! miss mercie is just plain reliable as a healer. easily goes through the priest line to gremory.
-balthus: extremely helpful early game, doesn’t fall off later either. his personal skill of str/def +6 when below half health means he can either straightforwardly tank or just punch shit so hard it doesn’t have a chance to strike back. also gets a relic, healing focus, and a major crest that allows him to heal, so he’s a one man army. he does one thing really well and that’s use his fists to liquefy his opponents. also gets rally strength if you care about that. my favorite strategy with him is to let the damn poison strike archers knock his health down and then just go to town, combined with vantage for REAL fun. forget war monk, this guy should just go to war master
-sylvain: this little slut will join you if you’ve got boobs so he’s real handy to have around. plus he’s got some great qualities: flexible, strong, free relic, and maybe kinda hot i guess. you could make him a paladin, but you should give him a giant lizard. he can basically become any of the master classes with ease, although i would not recommend putting him into magic classes that much unless you wanna do a wholly mage sylvie build. will still perform just fine as a dark mage even without dedicated magery. but seriously, dragon
-petra: you want crit??? you got crit!!! this little lady can not only crit like hell but also dodge tank really well. i had fun making her a falcoknight once and just watching her line it all up and tear it all down. petra is reliable and stronk and also horrible to fight against so just. recruit her, please
-constance: entirely here because of bolting. for the low price of her reason being A you can nuke enemies from across the map. while you could make her the canon class of dark flier, i for one think the warlock line is better, because that’s four uses of bolting and even more if her crest activates. she also has a similar statline to lysithea and hits like a truck with other spells, and with bolting can supply long range support, so really, what’s not to love? the rest of her spells are good too. i go for gremory over dark flier bc while the mobility is great, x4 bolting is even better.
PRETTY GOOD TIER
-ingrid: extremely reliable, only down here instead of in the cool kids category bc her strength kinda sucks. i love ingrid though! she’s got a gambit gimmick and a crest+relic! ingrid with the chalice is super funny and i highly recommend it. i watched her fucking OWN every single siege tome user like that
-ignatz: some will say he sucks. some would argue his utility as a debuffer and rallybot. i will argue this ungodly crit. ignatz is a very luck man, blessed with great opportunities and a base crit value beyond any other. the little man will strike you down in the name of the goddess before you even know what’s going on. with a little help his strength will match the others and if you slap as much crit up on him as possible then it’ll never end. ignatz could be a one man army if he could crit more than one person at once. unfortunately he’s stuck to one divine judgment at a time. you can either use his 55% luck growth and archer level dex to gamble on a high crit rate, or you can stack his personal with another hit +20 to basically never miss anything. if you play deer, this man is a must.
-hilda: the usual, a crest, a relic, good times, a nice personal, but also like. she slaps. in general. pretty sick with an axe but works nicely as almost any physical class (i haven’t tried sword, though) because she naturally goes down the warrior line she can get some real fun times going. or just give her a lizard! women love swarms of lizards. she is a delicate little flower who will end a motherfucker
-ferdinand: fairly reliable as a cavalier class, and comes with some natural dodge tanky capability and access to seteth’s spear of assal and ochain shield which make him restore health like crazy and his personal will stay on. also a counter attack block is nice! he’s got some nice combat arts too. just a pretty straightforward cavalier. good times
-seteth: and while we’re on the crest of cichol, seteth is gonna make sure you never raise a finger against him again. you won’t survive. the only prepromote i use. he has good base stats, good growths, and he just does really well at what he does! he may come in a little late but he’s strong as fuck and is shredded. i tend to favor him over ferdie for the cichol linked items, but also i’m biased towards this anxiety dad, so take that as you will
-marianne: she tends to get left out of the healer talks because like most of the deer, she’s kind of weird. i will make an argument for her. what she lacks in utility she makes up for sheer raw power. while her crest won’t be of much use until very late and even then her sword prowess is not what you should be using her for, her spell list is all high power and she also comes with easy access to silence, which can nicely stall for some time against powerful mage enemies. she also gets a heal to herself if she’s standing next to an animal since all her friends are horses. still kinda slow as most healers are and not as much of a res tank, but a formidable edition nonetheless. blutgang is a good pinch hitter relic as well
-caspar: like most gauntlet users, caspar is good at one thing: punching. he is just really good at it. he’s perfectly geared towards being a war master. and he’ll perform that very well. he gets healing focus as one of his arts, so he can run off on his own if he wants. solidly reliable, will work at just. punching. go short king!
-yuri: the man’s utility is unrivaled. he’d go top tier if it weren’t for the fact that he’s got unreliable strength/magic growths. he could go either way as a physical attacker or a mage, but he naturally fits well in the assassin class along with trickster, and even dancer if you like (i’m trying that and honestly the male dancer animation is so sad. like. why can’t you put as much energy into it as the women.) but this man can go. hes fast. he’ll fuck you up
-hubert: while not as hard hitting as lysithea, the man still fucks things up with dark magic like she does. he lacks her double crests but he makes up for it by still smacking people’s nuts clean off and with the added bonus of range and debuffs dark magic provides. even better, you can make him a dark mage/bishop! however points off because they won’t let me stack fiendish blow. love u vampire man!!! unfortunately locked to CF so rip.
NICE TIER:
-lorenz: i adore him but hes a little unreliable as things go. in house, hes the better paladin than leonie, and his personal grants him a nice damage bonus with a battalion. lorenz shines as a dark knight the most, he has a heavy hitting spell list and if you really want to, thyrsus is technically his relic even though everyone puts it on lysithea! i really like him and he can perform really well but unfortunately like most of the deer he is Weird and this can put him in strange places with his growths. tis a cruel world, being a lorenz stan!
-dorothea: also suffers from strange statline. for some reason they’re pushing sword with her. honestly, because she’s outperformed by other mages, even on black eagles i tend to put her into dancer and kinda forget about her. she has quite a bit in heavy hitting spells and her personal skill grants a very nice mini heal to people around her, but honestly, i usually favor lysithea over her. she functions best as pure support but can still pull through on the offense. sadly, the competition is really rough.
-ashe: does his job, and does it well. not as heavy of a hitter as some of his fellow archers, but still good nonetheless, and has access to deadeye for extra range (although don’t count on it on maddening). his personal means he can unlock things no matter what class he’s in, so you can focus on others! i personally think that, you guessed it, he should get a giant lizard.
-annette: she does well, sadly outperformed by other house mages. functions as a rallybot and gets crusher if you care about that. i missed crusher completely in my first lions run, whoops, and then in my second one i had constance so uh. sorry, annette! she’s so very sweet, but her spell list has her down here.
-leonie: im hiding before the leonie stans get me. sure, like sylvain, she has his ability and shared flexibility for any class, but unlike sylvain she lacks power, a crest, and a relic. i see people keep arguing that she’s a massive damage dealer, but i honestly never see it. she falls off damage wise really quick, even if she’s got more than enough speed to deal with it. she’s basically just a lamer sylvain or ingrid without the crest abilities that those two have to make them stronger. what? the game keeps TELLING me crest = bad but as far as i can tell, all the best characters have one! on maddening GD, she’ll be good at first, but she’ll drop.
-dedue: i would rank this man higher since i simply adore him but he’s SUPER difficult for me to use. his defense is unrivaled, this man will flinch at nothing, but his speed is almost always shit and he tends to get nuked from orbit by mages. i love him, i really do, but man he can be a lot to manage. he does really well early game but can’t keep up. which is a shame, i really like him :(
-flayn: she has quite a bit of capability with rescue and fortify, and her major crest means her healing is even more potent. however she’s a little slow, extremely fragile, joins low leveled after you’ve already invested in a different healer, and is not very strong. she IS a res tank, though, and learns seal magic, which adds to her res tanking capability. she also synergizes with the caduceus staff, so she can be very self sufficient, and hit from farther away! flayn does very well. the major penalty is a lackluster spell list and significant investment buy in.
-hapi: she’s… weird. i like hapi quite a bit but she’s got it worse than lorenz in terms of stat growth. her personal ability makes her an extreme aggro target for monsters and she can’t even avoid their attacks, and the bonus damage it grants unfortunately isn’t better than fellow DLC mage constance, who hits harder just out of sheer momentum. for having a healing crest, she doesn’t have a particularly interesting white magic line. her dark magic grants her utility similar to hubert, but she’s slower and can’t quite strike like he does. sadly miss hapi has to be down here. id like to put her higher but boy did she struggle
-raphael: well, he’ll do his job. he’s only beat by caspar since caspar has a little bit better tools at his disposal, but they’re basically the same character. raph will do very good at punching the living shit out of things. starts off better than caspar, but unfortunately in my current run i have balthus so raph had to get benched
YOU CAN DO BETTER TIER
-bernadetta: she’ll work alright, but only with lots of attention, and her personal doesn’t seem to make up the difference. for a sniper she seems to have far less hit than her rivals in ashe and ignatz, especially since ignatz makes him more reliable. her crest doesn’t actually grant her much since it has such a low trigger rate and by the time it does work she probably already can double. also she gains no levels between pre and post skip which is hilarious but like. HELLO? ive also been told she has the worst starting stats. personally, i only use her on BE runs. i know she’s a popular character and a lot of people rank her highly for persecution complex and the fact that she learns both encloser and deadeye, but deadeye is unreliable in maddening and she’s a lot of work to keep up with the others.
-cyril: he can become a killer, he honestly does really well, but he starts so far behind you need to invest a significant amount into him. i don’t recall him having a particularly stellar combat art line either, but if you choose to put in all the work of catching the kid up, he will do well. but it’s not worth it most of the time. i use him on church route runs bc it feels right. on other runs, you’ll already have someone who fits his niche--the guy becomes a wyvern rider, and the likes of sylvain can do much better in this line.
-linhardt: kind of a shittier flayn, without fortify or rescue. lackluster spell list for both black and white, and terrible growths. he’ll do fine if you play eagles, but if you’re going to import a healer, mercie or flayn is the better option.
-anna: oh lord, anna is difficult. her offensive stats are horrendous. flayn hits harder than her. with her unique stat line, inability to get supports, weakness in authority, and all around just odd set up, anna is not a reliable character and you should use yuri instead. they’ve basically got the same crest.
DIDN’T USE SO NO OPINION TIER:
-hanneman
-manuela (heard she’s not good anyway)
-alois
-gilbert
-catherine
-shamir
(yes there’s a trend to this which is past FEs have trained me away from using prepromotes!)
and there we go! im still biased towards GD but the characters who do best are the ones who have a clear class line to follow and a statline that matches it.

I JUST WOKE UP FROM A NAP AND CHARACTER PROFILES ARE OUT AHHHH
Im gonna mostly talk about the Golden Deer bc I've been waiting for forever for SOMETHING about them and now I have it I'm gonna run.
But some of my thoughts on the other houses:
Black Eagles: Nothing really caught my attention other then they have the most people without crests, and Dorothea hates herself :<
Blue Lions: Well... that certainly confirms the theory that the Childhood Friends don't accept Dedue very well aosjsj Sylvain is the only one who doesn't seem to have a problem with Dimitri no wonder he's so willing to work on his womanizing he's the only friend who isn't judging him (bc Ingrid HAS to not like that Dimitri has Dedue as a retainer and even if it didn't sour their relationship completely it had to have put some strain on it. No wonder she and Felix are seen together so often aksjsj). ALSO ANNETTES A SWEET ANGEL.
OK Now Onto the Golden Deer akjsjs (I'm on mobile or else I'd put a read more sorry akdjsj)
FIRST OF ALL- THIS???
Tumblr media
DOESN'T SHE MENTION AN OLDER BROTHER IN THE ADVICE BOX??? I could be remembering it wrong but I SWEAR she was like "i have to write my brother but I dont know what to write him about so tell me". Someone please explain is my memory bad or is Hilda submitting false facts to the ask box for fun?
Tumblr media
Hilda is definitely that girl who said "um excuse me we're having a conversation. Rude." To a teacher when they tried to stop her talking in class aksjaj
I love how persuasion is right in the middle of her otherwise totally normal likes lol i can just hear her listing off her likes and just saying that aloud so casually and the person she's talking to is just like "excuse me- wait what was that one in the middle??" "Fashion :>"
Tumblr media
RAPHAEL HAS A BABY SISTER!!!!!!!!!!! I REPEAT RAPHAEL HAS A BABY SISTER AHHHHHHHH HE MUST BE SUCH A GOOD BIG BRO!! PLEASE LET NOTHING HAPPEN TO HER IF SOMEONE EVEN LOOKS AT HER FUNNY I WILL DELETE THEM
Tumblr media
ASSJSHAJS Lorenz likes Monitering Claude LMAO, its his #1 hobby. Also we finally have a reason to have a rivalry with Black Eagles- Lorenz hates coffee but Hubert loves it. (Also he hates vulgarity lmao bet there was at least 1 time where Leonie and Claude just swore constantly around him for an entire day alsjsj)
Also what is a worthy women and how much do you wanna bet he's been slapped in the face for phrasing it like that bc he absolutely has to have been socked at least once.
Tumblr media
Ignatz hates lightning and there better be some good found family fics of the Golden Deer helping him distract himself during storms!!
(Also he seems to really like the church so wonder how that goes with Claude aksjs)
Tumblr media
Lysithea still adorable, loves sweets and cute things and hates bitter food aksjjss also hates anything physcially laborious what a gigantic mood
Ashe also hates ghost and as someone who thinks they'd be adorable together I love the idea that they're the couple that go see a disney movie while the others go watch horror (but they still get scared by the wind that night and call Mercedes to come take care of the ghost aksjjs).
Tumblr media
Leonie's is exactly how I thought it'd be aksjsj don't have a lot to say except she's the big sister of the group and has for sure punched Lorenz in the face
Marianne and Claude are at the bottom bc they're my favorites and I have a lot to say about them akshshs
Tumblr media
Ladakdjsj why does "long rides" make me think of a dating profile?? "Hi my name is Claude Von Riegan, I love long rides on the beach and tactically scheming as the sunsets. Pick me and I'll let you grasp any part of me you want."
Anyway SO pumped to finally have stuff coming out about Claude aksjsjs after what feels like years of just getting scraps we're finally getting some gosh dang FOOD and we DESERVE IT
His dislikes are interesting, like its so clear he doesn't trust the gods at ALL kasjjs and he clearly has a reason for that which I'm sure will come out in the main plot since its all about the church who are just a bunch of people blindly following Seiros akdjs
(Also who's gonna tell him he's in a fire emblem game and is just as subject to the rng gods as the rest of us? Leaving things to chance is the underlying tagline of the combat system cause sure you have a 95% to hit but there's still a chance you won't 🙃)
Love that he likes poetry, he is the guy who can rehearse shakespear by heart but mostly just spouts the existential stuff but will whip out a real romantic verse when the moments right (unlike Lorenz who only remembers the romantic stuff). Definitely is the guy who writes haiku jokes using haiku's and it drives everyone else crazy. Also I hc that he means long rides on his wyvern and not a horse bc ever since I saw that he can become a wyvern rider I can't not think of him as one akssj (I'm calling the wyvern Goldy the Golden Good Boy of the Von Riegans, Goldy for short, becauze it makes me laugh akdjsj.)
Also wtf does planning feasts mean??? What does planning a feast entail?? Is this just a medieval way to say he likes to party??
Tumblr media
MARIANNE'S #1 DISLIKE IS HERSELF NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
WHO DID THIS TO HER WHERE ARE THEY AND HOW PREPARED ARE THEY FOR THESE HANDS???
PLEASE LET ME BE ABLE TO GIVE HER A HUG INTSYS!!!
Ok calming down I am SO fascinated by Marianne, cause she clearly has so much story to her and I for one can't wait to find it all out. Cause she's so different from the other nobles, all of them are quite confident and loud (in personality and color) but shes the exact opposite, and we don't even know what her crest is so we can't figure out who her birth family are and what happened to them that made her get fostered by the Edmunds. And the Edmunds themselves are just another hole because how do they treat her? I cant imagine its good? But perhaps it is and whatever happened to her birth family is why she's so depressed and lacks self confidence? Akjdkss Ok I'm just rambling now I'll stop but long story short I'm hyped to play Golden Deer and see what her relationship is with the rest of the house xD (especially Claude bc they have such different viewpoints on the gods and the church so their supports are gonna be interesting aksjjs)

Oh my god, i had this sitting in my notes for a while, only remembered it recently. That being said, hi! I hope you enjoy this! Its a kinda sketchbooky oneshot in an au where Johanna is also a witch!
(Not for secret santa or anything, just wondered if u'd like it)
Omg. So, @tall-tappers is the one who sent this and I have to say I’m walking on air. Thank you so much for sending me this!!! I really enjoyed reading it (and you used one of the headcanons I wrote on Family Fights??? Omg.). I cannot thank you enough!
...
"Mum, did you dye your hair?"
Johanna turned around, jumping in surprise at the question. She glanced beyond her daughter to a mirror, seeing traces of a sparkly blue in messy wisps at the top of her head.
"Oh, yeah, actually. Just testing highlights, seeing how it'd look. What do you think?"
Hilda tilted her head, a smile forming.
"Yes! Then we can match!"
Johanna turned away slightly, rubbing the back of her neck.
"I don't know. I think I'm gonna dye it back."
"No, come on! It looks great!" Hilda pleaded, bouncing up and down on the balls of her feet.
Johanna sighed, ruffling her daughter's mop of fluffy hair.
"Alright, you got me. I'll see what I can do."
Hilda cheered a victorious "Yes!" before she was rushed out of the house.
"Now come on, we wouldn't want to keep your friends waiting."
Hilda giggled and sprinted towards the car in a flash.
Johanna smiled softly as she followed her daughter and buckled into her seat.
"To the library?"
She asked.
Hilda nodded enthusiastically, a huge grin on her face.

...
Johanna looked at the kids gathered at a table, flipping through books and discussing beasts of some kind as they normally did while they were here. She thought back to her times in this very library when she was growing up, usually full days filled with studying. Or, at least, goofing off when she should have been studying.
"Nice day, isn't it?"
Rang a familiar voice from above her head.
She looked up to the source, her face brightening the second she heard it.
"Maven!" She called, waving to the librarian.
"Ive been meaning to talk to you."
Maven slid down the ladder, placing a few books back in the correct spots as she did.
"That's new. You never want to talk to me." She said with a sarcastic twinge, a smirk pulling at her mouth.
Johanna playfully waved her hand.
"Oh please. This is important."
Maven nodded, letting her cloak fall back into its obscuring position, before leading the two of them to a table.
As they sat, Johanna saw a hot cup of her favorite brand of peppermint tea sitting before her.
She looked to the librarian for permission, and was met with a nod.
"Ive gotten used to your little visits." She said, slyly resting her head on her hand with half closed eyes.
Johanna pretended that didn't make her as happy as it did, and cleared her throat.
"Listen. Ive come to talk about Hilda."
Maven sat up straighter.
"Why? What's happened?"
Johanna took a calming sip of her tea, sorting her words before speaking.
"Well, this morning, she noticed my hair dye was fading."
Maven's eyes traveled up, catching the unusual hair color.
"Ah. And?"
"Well, i told her that I was trying blue streaks out. She still thinks that brown is natural for me." Johanna's face fell, and she turned her gaze to the side. "And she seemed really excited about the prospect of full head matching hair color." That pulled a short laugh from her chest. "But I'm not sure if I'm ready for that."
Maven took a sip of some coffee, casually resting an arm on the back of the chair she was in.
"Well, you could just let it fade. It almost attracts more attention for her to be the only one with strangely colored hair."
Johanna looked away, fidgeting her hands on the mug.
"I just don't want people to say anything to us, and I'm not sure if i want her to find out yet."
"Well, have you told her what it means?"
"No, but she's smart, she'd figure it out. I mean, between your hair and magic room and her proficiency in it shes bound to draw the connection long before I plan to tell her."
Johanna sighed, looking over to her daughter's oblivious, absolutely ecstatic expression.
Maven hummed in thought, tapping the table with painted nails.
"You could always try using your magic? Erase her mind of the incident and go back to normal?"
Johanna winced, her voice turning more into a whisper.
"I told you, I dont do magic. You know how the city feels about us. I'd much rather lie to her."
She groaned, placing a hand on her forhead.
"But even that's not exactly desirable."
Maven clicked her tongue, taking a decisive sip of her coffee.
"You really should stop letting the city deny you of who you are."
"But this is who I am! Besides, I dont exactly want to risk going to jail every time I make a mistake!"
Johanna stated angrily, hitting a palm on the table. She had to take a moment to regain control of her breath.
"I-Im sorry for that. I don't know what came over me."
"You're restless."
Maven observed.
"This is the kind of thing that happens. I know you don't like me talking about it, but you are a witch. We kind of need magic."
Johanna let out a long sigh before resting her hands in her lap.
"You're right. I understand." She said quietly.
"But I'm just... scared. I just want her to grow up happy, like I did. And that means covering things like this."
"You don't seem happy now."
Johanna was silent, not even turning to meet her gaze.
There was a long moment of stillness between them, broken when Maven once again took a drink from her mug.
"in my opinion, you said Hilda would eventually find out anyway, so why not tell her now? It would save a lot of difficulty down the line."
Johanna closed her eyes for a moment in thought.
"I'll do what I can."
She said.
"Thank you."
They both rose to their feet as Hilda and her group of friends ran over, chatting over eachother until they reached where Johanna stood.
"Can we go to the woods on the far side of the wall?" Hilda asked with a confident stance.
Johanna laughed, joy returning upon seeing her daughter's excitement.
"I don't see why not."
They cheered and began to run past, Hilda leading with Frida close behind, holding some kind of camera, while David took the rear with a grin, despite his obvious hesitancy.
Maven looked after them, crossing her legs and lifting her mug to her mouth.
"You should follow them."
Johanna's brow furrowed, and she turned back to the librarian in worry.
"What? Why?"
"I've heard of some strange goings on from that direction. Its just better to be safe than sorry."
Johanna let out a breath through her teeth, pulling some strands of hair out of her face.
"Well, if you think it's best."
Maven winked. "And you know how often I'm right." She stood to collect the empty mugs and waved as Johanna chased after the children.
'stay safe out there, okay?' She wanted to yell after her, but decided against it.

Hey, your FE:3H fan art is super great! I was actually wondering if you had any bodytype headcanons for any of the characters?
ahhh wow im so glad you think so!!! i’d love to be able to draw everyone on the roster someday, so here’s some of the ways i’d spice everyone up and draw them. this isnt exactly all canon but its my interpretations of the characters.
some spoilers ahead
black eagles:
edelgard is definitely scarred up from the experimentation she went through, but i imagine despite her smaller height she’s pretty muscular. swinging around amyr doesnt seem easy.
normally i’d draw someone like hubert very lanky but i think in his case having a bit of bulk would make him look scarier and more intimidating, which is what he wants, so i’d give him broad shoulders and a wider chest. and i cant decide if he’d have good or pad posture? im leaning on good posture because he’s very dedicated to making edelgard look good.
caspar is a short king, VERY bulky though.
linhardt is tall, i wouldnt say very lanky but he does have bad posture because he’s always on the verge of falling asleep.
ferdinand is a model noble, so his chest is always puffed out, and he stands very proudly all the time. he just looks very strong.
dorothea is supposed to look like a model, so shes very curvy, and shes very tall too.
bernie is thin and lanky, even though shes pretty tall, probably as a result of the way her father treated her. she looks like she’d fly away in a strong breeze.
petra has a pretty sleek but strong build, since she’s a hunter, the ideal warrior queen image in brigid.
blue lions:
dimitri is big and he pretty much towers over everyone who isnt dedue, i imagine he’s haunched over all the time and his big fluffy cape gives him added Big factor.
i think dedue is the tallest in the game, and i’d keep his strong, bulky look too because i like the idea that he’s a shield and protector of all his allies. a true gentle giant.
sylvain is hunky and tallish, has a nice chest but skips leg day from time to time.
felix looks pretty small and thin compared to the other guys in the house (not ashe) but hes strong in his own right, it just doesnt really look that way. he’s got strong arms and a good core but his legs are also pretty weak i imagine.
ashe is a TWINK. hes small and thin and unless he goes down a non archer route hes going to stay that way. hes also still got remnants of his troubled, starving past, so he doesn’t bulk up very well. the smallest male blue lion.
mercie is plus sized! shes sweet and warm and i think its perfect for her, especially since she’s a bit older than the others so she doesnt have much growing left to do and her body wont change much more. shes perfect the way she is!
annette is petite, skinny all around but she has a nice silhouette. shes just super cute and easy to pick up.
ingrid is tall and very strong due to her strong work ethic and dedication to training, shes not super ripped because shes usually going to be on a horse or pegasus, but she could knock you down in combat easily. really strong arms.
golden deer:
i can definitely see claude having a bit of pudge in places or being a bit of a hunky bear... or a bearish hunk. no matter what hes very hot.
hilda is STRONG and has beefy arms but she hides them beneath her sleeves because she wants to look delicate and fragile. even though shes short, do not underestimate this womans muscles. also i think she has the biggest boobs in the game? just an observation that i think is really neat. hilda’s hot.
lorenz is a tall skinny twinkish hunk. but i think most of his chest is attributed to armor he wears to make it seem like hes bigger than he is.
raphael is the DEFINITION of a bear and a himbo, i dont really need to go over this one, raphael is perfect.
ignatz starts off really twinkish but after the timeskip hes really put in an effort to get stronger, and it shows. he’s got a pretty average body i feel, but its a lot stronger and meatier than he was pre timeskip. and he grew!
leonie is strong, but shes VERY beautiful and people dont really take the time to appreciate how pretty her face and body are. shes a little scarred up from mercenary work but shes got a great build, big boobs, nice thighs that shes showin off, and i love her and you should too.
marianne is slender, she definitely hides a lot of her body behind her clothes so we don’t really get a look at it, but she’s definitely scared and has bad posture pre timeskip, and has more confidence so she lifts her chin up post timeskip. she’s also pretty average and i dont think much is remarkable about her body. you’d think she’d have a small chest but i think in game her boobs are pretty big? kind of ghastly in general.
lysithea, like edelgard, is scarred up from the experimentation done on her, but unlike edelgard, whose scars i think are more clean and precise from all the time their captors had time to practice and perfect their techniques, lysitheas are from before edelgard’s, so theyre a lot more.. imprecise? experimental? they’re not very pretty and they’re everywhere. but lysithea has always been pretty small, even though she grows a bit post timeskip, shes got a weak, delicate body because shes a glass canon mage and because of her failing health. small chest size, she just looks a little... unwell in general.
i dont really feel the need to go over the church of seiros, but let me know if i should anyway or if you have any of your own headcanons different from mine!!! i’d love to hear any suggestions. :3 thanks so much for asking!!

UHMM lia had a near death experience tht rly shook her right ?? mayhaps talk about that ??
okay. so. first of all: fuck you. second of all: lia’s first near death experience is an event that happens in all of her verses but since you sent this on hilda’s account i’m just going to focus on fe3h verse though most details are pretty applicable to all verses.
i really don’t feel the need to get into too much detail of the attack itself given the fact it is very violent…it does nearly kill her. but do note that this attack should be considered an attempted murder. it was meant to kill her but a bitch just doesn’t die so easily. she doesn’t have a phoenix motif for nothing SGHFHGFG. ANYWAY! the attack happens at night and in this verse, in the forest surrounding garreg mach*. it basically boils down to lia being inflicted with two very deep gashes running up both of her forearms— the one on her right arm slightly curving out and around due to her escaping.
it’s deliberate / intentional / premeditated. i know im harping on this fact but it’s important because that’s the reason it impacts lia so much. like! she’s 17~18 when this happens and previously the only time her life has been in danger is when SHE puts herself in it. she’s still basically a child and suddenly someone Violently wants her dead and almost succeeds. it’s a lot. A LOT OF THE 3H CAST CAN FUCKING RELATE FOR ONCE.
    * the actual plot as to why she was in the forest alone and at night is…unknown! IM LAZY! also don’t ask me how she got back to the monastery. it’s a mystery to both me and her! i just feel bad for the poor schmuck who finds her passed AND bleeding out.
because of her access to Actual Magic in 3h verse i imagine her wounds do heal pretty well and she doesn’t have to deal with the aftermath of nerve damage AS MUCH. however, they’re still hefty wounds to get over and given how time / weeks pass in 3h lia spends the entire month in the infirmary healing and doing physical therapy. it’s afterwards that lia has to switch out her bow because she can’t use it anymore due to the strain and damage it could potentially cause.
in other verses where healing magic isn’t exactly an option the nerve damage is worse and doesn’t heal nearly as well. this causes lasting pain and for her wounds to act up again occasionally and force lia to keep the use of her hands to a minimal due to both pain and tremors.
in 3h; the only time this really happens is if she’s hit in the same area. so, if you want to disarm her and for her to literally drop into the fetal position, you have options.
now let’s talk about the psychological effects that this has on lia! they don’t hit all at once. in fact, she doesn’t even notice them until it gets bad. the main and most easily noticeable impact is her developing a phobia of the dark / being in the dark. lia wasn’t able to see her attacker due to the fact it was at night and in a forest. this causes her to grow paranoid over the fact that it might happen again and she won’t be able to see it coming. it’s this paranoia leads her to be unable to sleep at night, even with a light on. i’ve talked about it before but this is also the reason why lia takes naps in the day because she feels safer that way. it isn’t until further on that her fear slightly resides and she’s able to form a somewhat normal sleep cycle. OH! AND SPEAKING OF NORMAL! lia does an absolutely stunning job at normalizing / rationalizing all of this because this is literally her only way of dealing with her trauma.
fun fact! the only times lia’s fear of the dark doesn’t directly stem from her trauma from the attack is in vii and kh verse. but that’s a whole can of fucking worms on it’s own.
she suffers from acute stress disorder directly after the attack and due to her not exactly addressing the problem and instead pushing it off, it later develops into PTSD. this only serves to further exacerbates her inability to sleep and paranoia of being in the dark.
a quick, important note is that lia doesn’t develop a fear of people and she still believes in the best of other’s. this belief is one that actually helps her keep going.
also lia doesn’t mind being asked about her scars ( later on. if you ask right away she’ll most likely shut down ) because they are so prominent but she is liable to either drastically undercutting / brushing off the story for her own sake. touching them though ( without warning ) is a bit of a no-no but she also knows that because of their location it could easily happen.
i hope you’re fucking happy. KLHGLKDHG HDFLG

(This fic sorta reflects my current state of being l o l honestly, burn out is the worst fucking thing to endure and i am s u f f e r i n g from it so much. So I vented with this, and kinda explored a few of Aymeric’s other relationships.
Also for the fishing bit, Aza and his FC were pretty much doing this)
As always, Aymeric woke up at the crack of dawn.
It was to an empty bed, so he thankfully didn’t have to go through the torturous ordeal of untangling himself from Aza’s arms and slipping out without him waking up (impossible). He did so love his partner, but some days he he just wanted get to work on time without having to rush because Aza decided to imitate a rather clingy, amorous limpet.
The sun was just peeking over the twisting spires of the Holy See when Aymeric emerged from his home, dressed, fed and waiting for his coffee to kick in. His feet took him along the well worn path towards the Congregation of the Knights Most Heavenly (he needed to find a way to shorten that into something that didn’t sound so… cultish), the air almost pleasantly mild. It was ‘summer’ for Ishgard now, and that brought with it weak sunshine, gentle breezes and rain. It boded well for a possible thawing of the permafrost that clung to this land, though he doubted they would be able to reproduce their previous agricultural output for another few years yet.
The foot traffic was light this early in the morning, so Aymeric was utterly alone as he descended the steps from the Pillars to the lower levels of Ishgard. It meant he could break decorum a little and stifle a yawn behind his hand, feeling ragged to the bone. Gods, he always felt so exhausted when Aza wasn’t here. As distracting as his partner could be, he certainly slept easier when they-
-something abruptly jabbed him hard in his kidneys.
“Fuck-” he blurted in utter surprise, his foot slipping on the step and almost sending him on an embarrassing tumble, if not for the strong hand gripping his bicep. His lower back throbbed from the very painful jab he just took, and, face slightly red from embarrassment, regained his footing and turned to see-
“That’s another stabbin’ you coulda hand,” the ‘Mongrel’ smiled at him, all teeth, “C’mon, Lord Commander. I’ve told ya before about this route. Ambush points everywhere.”
Aymeric’s shoulders slumped, and Hilda kindly released his arm to give him a short pat on the shoulder, somehow making the gesture of reaching up not look too ridiculous.
“Lady Ware,” he sighed wearily.
“Hilda. I ain’t a lady.”
“Lady Ware,” Aymeric repeated, just to be contrary and because he got some vindication at watching her wrinkle her nose in disgust at him, “Thank you for scaring another five months off my lifespan. How many deaths is that now?”
“Two hundred an’ fifty somethin’ or other,” Hilda said, and jabbed him in the ribs again before he could move away, “Yer self-awareness is shite. It’s a miracle you ain’t been stabbed again, what with all them lords sharpening their daggers every time your back’s turned.”
“It probably has to do with the fact that you loiter in the dark corners they’d normally try to stab me from,” Aymeric said, his voice dry as dust, “The key to a successful assassination is not to do it with witnesses, you see.”
“Smarmy bastard,” Hilda said fondly, “Still, I can’t loiter in all the dark corners. I got a life outside of looking at your arse all day.”
“Duly noted,” Aymeric sighed, and inclined his head, “Walking the same way?”
“Yup,” Hilda said with a cocksure smile, boldly moving in step with him as they continued their way.
It was a queer friendship, he knew, if it could even be called friendship. It wasn’t a conventional relationship in the slightest, an alliance of necessity to smooth over any snarls and tangled between the Temple Knights and the newly established City Watch. Several knights, and lords, were somewhat disgruntled at these lowborn peasants suddenly having the power to enforce the law. Whilst the City Watch tended mostly to petty crime, freeing the Knights for more high-profile and sensitive cases, it was still a scrap of power long denied to those at the very bottom. Friction was inevitable.
Yet, during the beginning years of their wary and necessary alliance, a strange camaraderie started to form between them. Hilda jokingly said it was because he was now part of the ‘Orphaned Bastards Club’, but Aymeric felt it was more because they both believed the same things… and they really enjoyed thumbing their noses at the stuffier lords sitting pretty in Ishgard’s fledging republic. There were stark differences between them, though. Aymeric’s position was always privileged, member of the Orphaned Bastards Club or not, whilst Hilda scrambled at the bottom of society since birth. Friction there was inevitable too.
But they made it work.
Yes, they were both stubborn and passionate and clashed – often – but Hilda had proven herself to be a valuable ally, instead of the dangerous enemy she could have been. She worked with him to ensure a level balance between the Knights and the City Watch, she was blunt and honest enough not to hold back to correct him on his assumptions on what the lower class needed, and, more importantly, she was loyal to a fault.
He could do without the mock-assassinations whenever he went to and from work though. At this point he had a feeling she was doing it more to mess with him, rather than increasing his chances of surviving another assassination attempt.
“I see Lover boy’s outta town,” Hilda said casually, “What’s he up to this time? Savin’ another damn country?”
“He’s gone fishing with some adventurer friends,” Aymeric said.
The look Hilda gave him was worth the early morning scare, honestly. The disbelief, the slight suspicion that he was pulling her leg, writ across her face was deeply amusing, “Fishin’.”
“Mm, that is what I said,” he said with mock-innocence, “Something the matter?”
“He doesn’t seem like the type to fish,” Hilda said dubiously, “Requires a bit of patience, don’t it?”
“If there’s a promise of food at the end of it, you’ll find him surprisingly patient,” Aymeric said, “Also he fishes with Imperial grenades.”
Hilda let out a sigh that almost eased into a laugh, “’Course he does.”
The rest of the walk to the Congregation was pleasant in Hilda’s company. She told him a little of what the City Watch had been doing, what assistance they could do with, and in turn Aymeric told her about the new bills being proposed regarding a government funding project to properly equip the City Watch. Hilda had taken that last thing with a wry twist to her lips, just as aware as him that that bill would be bounced around in the House of Lords for as long as their constitution allowed.
“Best leave ya here,” Hilda said briskly as they stopped at the Congregation, “When ya see Aza, tell ‘im to swing by the Forgotten Knight sometime. Haven’t had a drink with him in a while.”
“I’ll pass on the message,” Aymeric promised.
Hilda clapped him on the arm, her fingers trailing along his forearm and pressing a crumpled piece of paper – discreetly – into his hand. With a two-fingered salute, the Mongrel prowled off in that confident strut of hers, disappearing into the early morning crowd that had started to stir.
Aymeric closed his fist around the paper slowly and turned away, tucking it casually into his breeches’ pocket. Another perk to his friendship-alliance with the Mongrel was information that would otherwise be denied to a Lord Commander part of the ‘class system’ all the commoners hated. What people wouldn’t admit or say to the knights, they admitted to the City Watch. But, whilst the City Watch’s powers were limited, Aymeric had more clout and influence. It was always a balancing act to work out on what he could action, but it made his life so much easier.
Honestly, it would have been a harder ordeal rooting out corruption, if it weren’t for her.
--
“Sir. Sir.”
“M’awake,” Aymeric mumbled into his desk, not lifting his head even when Lucia sighed somewhere above him.
“Lord Artoirel is here to see you,” she said firmly, “To discuss the Adventurer’s Guild Proposal. Remember?”
Aymeric made a noise better suited to some deep-sea creature being pulled out of a loch somewhere. The fucking Adventurer’s Guild Proposal. The bane of his political existence and the thorn in the House of Lord’s side. The last debate on it had descended into petty stonewalling, where no one had come out smelling pretty.
(Aymeric himself hadn’t come out of that debate well. In a flash of white-hot, temporary madness brought on by sheer frustration at the inefficiency their government was stagnating in, he had ended the ridiculous shouting match by flipping the Speaker’s desk and verbally flaying everyone present. It was the first time he ever heard the House of Lords stunned into terrified silence. It was then that Artoirel had, warily, suggested that perhaps they should all take a break and cool their heads a little while someone replaced the Speaker’s desk.)
“Should I take that as you cancelling the meeting?” Lucia asked him flatly.
“I’ll take it,” Aymeric said wearily, propping himself up and massaging his temples. A low-grade headache was beginning to throb insistently behind his eyes. He was so sick of reading things now. He should have ran away with Aza to throw Imperial grenades into a lake somewhere.
Lucia didn’t move, giving him a long searching look.
“Sir,” she ventured carefully, “When was the last time you took a break?”
Considering Lucia helped to micromanage his stuffed to the gills schedule, she should know exactly when he took a break. Better than he, anyways, where the days just blurred together in some nightmarish ordeal of holding a fledging republic together by his fingertips. Whilst it was more stable than it had been initially, somehow that meant more work bubbling up as people actually became efficient enough to start, well, working. Instead of just focusing on reshuffling their budget and trying to dismantle the Ishgardian war machine, they now had to juggle foreign policy, trade routes, commitments to the Eorzean Alliance, commitments to the Scions, immigration, social reforms, military reforms, economics, etcetera, etcetera, etcetera. Aymeric just didn’t have enough hands to manage it all.
“You tell me, Lucia,” he said in a rare show of snippiness, “When did I last have a break?”
Lucia straightened up and said, rather coolly, “Three months ago, sir, for half a day.”
Aymeric rubbed at his face and pinched at the bridge of his nose, letting out a very long exhale, “Right.”
“…I think,” Lucia said in a very neutral tone, “That you need a break, sir.”
Aymeric looked at the papers sprawled over his desk for a long moment. What had initially filled him with passionate determination now made him feel an intense dread. He was burnt out, he realised, and stressed to a cracking point, if his embarrassing blow up at the last House of Lords session was anything to go by. “Yes, I think so too.”
“Conveniently,” Lucia continued, “An invitation from Lord Hien of Doma arrived this morning by Postmoogle. It seems they wish to express their gratitude for the contribution Ishgard made towards their reconstruction efforts. It asks for you explicitly by name.”
It was a testament to how tired Aymeric was that he didn’t immediately make the connection, “This is convenient…?”
“Sir, this is a thinly veiled attempt to curry further favour with Ishgard by inviting you to their city to be spoiled and bribed,” Lucia said bluntly, “While the other City States also made contributions to Doma, the engineers and architects we sent have been integral to rebuilding their city and their destroyed castle. No doubt they will want us to continue loaning such expertise until they no longer need it, and to do that…”
“Ah,” Aymeric said, enlightened, “I see.”
“I already sent an acceptance on your behalf,” Lucia said, proving that she was an angel sent down from Halone Herself. If Aymeric weren’t so exhausted, he probably would have gotten down on his hands and knees and thanked her from the very bottom of his heart, “I’m certain the Warrior of Light will be happy to accompany you.”
That was all well and good, except, “But, who will tend to my duties in the interim?”
“I can handle your Lord Commander duties, sir,” Lucia said, and inclined her head towards the door, “And I am sure Lord Artoirel can handle your Speaker duties, as he is your political second in command. You should start learning to delegate.”
Aymeric processed this for a long moment. Then;
“Lucia,” he said gravely, “Have I ever told you how much I appreciate you?”
The faintest curl to Lucia’s lips betrayed her smile.
“Yes, sir,” she said warmly, “You tell me every day.”
---
All things considered, Artoirel handled his sudden burden with good grace.
“You need the break,” Artoirel told him firmly, “I was beginning to worry that you would crash and burn before you started delegating.”
“I wasn’t that bad, was I?” Aymeric asked, although a sinking feeling in his belly told him that, yes, he had acted a bit like a control freak. He couldn’t help it. He had sweated blood and tears to get Ishgard to this point, and he was terrified that it was going to be cocked up by petty greed and ambitions running counter their fledging republic. There were so many things that could be taken advantage of – were being taken advantage of, where corruption could fester and grow if one took their eyes off it for too long, where their government could collapse in on itself like the unstable house of cards it was and erupt into a destabilising and bloody civil war.
Aymeric wanted this to go well. He needed this to go well. Yet… he was also falling into the trap of thinking it’d only go well if he micromanaged every single possible bit of it, which… which wasn’t all that different to how Father had ruled Ishgard. Just like him, he was all but strangling the government by gripping it so hard. The realisation felt like a knife to the gut.
No, wait. A knife to the gut would have been better, actually.
“You… need to delegate a little, yes,” Artoirel said diplomatically, “But no one can deny you have Ishgard’s best interests at heart.”
Aymeric rubbed his forehead, biting back ‘the Archbishop also had Ishgard’s best interests at heart’, because that was going to go down an emotional rabbit hole of father issues that Artoirel didn’t deserve to sit through.
“Right,” he said instead, bottling up that emotional upheaval for later. He planted his hands on the papers on his desk and pushed them forwards towards his soon-to-be-intensely-suffering-replacement, “In which case, I deeply apologise for the hell I am about to put you through.”
Artoirel looked briefly pained, though the expression quickly cleared into one of grim, determination.
“I’ll endure it,” he said.
Really, Aymeric sincerely hoped Artoirel won the next round of elections for the Speaker position. He was, apparently, a far better politician and man than he’d ever be. That was a bitter pill to swallow, surprisingly, but it was mostly relief Aymeric felt.
Lucia was right.
He was burnt out.
---
Lucia kicked him out of his office before it was mid-afternoon.
“Go home,” she told him, and physically blocked him from getting back in his office. After being soundly out-manoeuvred and cowed by Lucia’s stern glare, Aymeric had no choice but to slink back home feeling oddly out of sorts. He had no looming deadline he had to grind towards, no bills or proposals he had to manage, no patrol reports to review or inspections to prepare for or… anything. He felt almost adrift, and he barely remembered the walk back home.
(Hilda would have been scandalised at his lack of self-awareness. He was probably lucky she didn’t chance upon him. She might have drop-kicked him)
He spent his abrupt dearth of free time not preparing for his journey in less than two days’ time – but by lying on his living room floor. It was, actually, a very comfortable floor, and he now saw why Aza lied down on it so much. It was firm, but not uncomfortably hard, and was doing wonders for his aching back. Maybe he should make this a thing. Just spend an hour lying on the floor and staring at the ceiling, slowly dumping all the white noise in his brain so he felt semi-human again.
This was the state Aza found him in a few hours later.
“Aym,” his partner said, standing at his head and smelling faintly of damp and mud, “Are you having a moment?”
“Lucia kicked me out of the office,” he informed him, still disbelieving about that. Grateful, but disbelieving, because the last few hours had been blissful, albeit accompanied by the low-grade anxiety of knowing that he wasn’t doing anything productive, “To take a break.”
Aza laughed at that, crouching down. He was smiling, an adorable grin that flashed his sharp canines and made the corners of his eyes crinkle. Aymeric dreamily admired that lovely expression for a long moment.
“I told you that you were working too hard,” Aza chided him gently, “Did you just lie here the whole time?”
“Yes,” Aymeric said shamelessly, “How was fishing?”
“Great. We annoyed a kraken and fought it.”
Aymeric hummed quietly, finding himself smiling a little stupidly at how genuinely pleased Aza looked at that. Only he would find fighting a kraken a good outcome of fishing, “Did you win?”
“Of course!”
Not long after that he had an armful of Aza, stripped naked with his brine-smelling clothes in a pile next to the sofa. The smell of damp and mud still lingered, but Aymeric still inhaled it and found that tight knot squeezing his belly slacken and relax. No matter how stressed he became, he could always count on Aza just… making it right again. True, he brought his own challenges from time to time, but, Gods, they were worth it.
“You have a dopey look on your face,” Aza commented, the pair of them nose to nose, “I bet you’re thinking of something very schmoopy.”
“Mmm…” Aymeric smiled lazily, “I’m thinking about how much I love you.”
“Sap,” Aza muttered, but his cheeks were a little pink and he was smiling, “You always think about that.”
“Not always,” Aymeric said, “Sometimes I think about how beautiful you look. Or how amazing you are. Or how many Chocobos you’re going to adopt when we retire-”
“Fifty,” Aza said instantly.
“More like one hundred,” Aymeric said wryly, “Like you’d stop at fifty.”
“Point.”
“In short,” Aymeric concluded, “I think about plenty of things… but it is mostly about how much I love you.”
“I can see that,” Aza said, giving him an odd smile. For a moment, it looked as if he was going to say something, but then just sighed and closed his eyes, “I love you too, Aym. Even if you are a sappy dork.”
A companionable silence fell on them then. It wasn’t awkward or uncomfortable. Aymeric just basked in the warmth of his partner’s body curled against his own, the press of his forehead against his own, the tickle of Aza’s hair against his nose and bottom lip, just… listening to him breathe, feeling him in his arms, here, existing, slowly, Aymeric could feel the lingering tension in his body just…ease away.
Yes, he definitely needed that break. He hadn’t realised how bone-weary and burnt out he was until now. A few weeks longer and he might’ve self-destructed entirely, jeopardising everything he worked for and causing the problems he feared would happen, just from stubbornly micromanaging everything.
Doma would still be work, but it’d be relaxed work. He would have to schmooze and make friends, but he wouldn’t have to also juggle a thousand other things simultaneously. It’d be good for him to just decompress and figure his own life out, before wading back into the thorny battlefield that was Ishgardian politics.
“What’re you thinkin’ ‘bout?” Aza asked him sleepily.
“… work,” Aymeric murmured, kissing the tip of his nose, “You’ll find out later.”
“Hrm,” Aza was content with that, and he watched as his partner slipped off into a dozing slumber. He looked adorable. It was amazing how loving someone so much made even the simple act of sleeping seem like the most sublime thing on the planet. Aza was right, he was such a sappy dork.
For the first time in a while, his worries about Ishgard were… the furthest thing from his mind.

Floral Fluster - Ch. 2
Title: Floral Fluster Warnings: Contains mentions of gambling and vague alcohol abuse Chapters: 1/2/? Word count: 4,543 Relationship: Mugman/Cagney Carnation (relationship) Other characters: Cuphead, Elder Kettle, Rumor Honeybottoms (briefly mentioned), Hilda Berg (briefly mentioned).
Summary: Inkwell Festival is in a few weeks time, and Rumor insists that Cagney goes to it. Perhaps insisting he goes with Mugman might be the encouragement he needs to come out of his shell?
Author’s notes: I’m so so sorry this took a while. I really am. University sucks, life sucks, everything sucks. However... I am rather proud of this part. I sifted through and edited out all my mistakes this time.
As mentioned in the first part, if you are new here, Cuphead and Mugman are both, in fact, older. They are at least 17. I suppose this can be read as a one-shot, like the first part, perhaps...? Also, has the name for this ship changed? I’ve seen the tag “tea leaf” being thrown around here and there. I’ll use both, regardless, but ah well.
Also, I do apologise if Cuphead or Elder Kettle seem a little out of character. I wasn’t exactly sure how to write them. I’m so sorry.
But, without further ado... once again, please enjoy!
Mugman gave a heavy sigh as he practically burst through the door, panting a little as he had ran home. “I'm so sorry I'm late, pops!” He exclaimed, Cuphead and Elder Kettle looking up as he walked in. His cheeks were deep blue after having sped home, hurriedly removing his coat and hanging it up. “Sorry, sorry - hope I didn't miss nothin’…”
Cuphead rested his head in the palm of his hand as Mugman sat down opposite from him at the table. “Mugs, you almost missed dinner!” Elder Kettle exclaimed, clearly worried as he turned to the two brothers.
“Well- th’ keyword there is almost, gramps,” Mugman gave a little chuckle. Elder Kettle only tutted and rolled his eyes as his innocent playfulness, giving him a look that said ‘what am I gonna do with you?’. Mugman only smiled back before he glanced at Cuphead who seemed rather bored, playing with his fork idly. He didn't seem in the best of moods. The three went quiet, the only sound between the three were sounds of vegetables boiling, and the little thud of the fork hitting the table.
Mugman cleared his throat quietly to gently break the silence, before he piped up. “Slow day at work, Cups? You don't look too happy.”
“Oh, was it ever,” He began with a groan, shaking his head, “never been so bored in my fuckin’ life.” Cuphead quickly followed that up with a quiet 'sorry’ for the use of vulgar language. Kettle hated it when he swore. “We was jus’ movin’ around a buncha stuff today. Reorganising…” There was a pause for a shrug. “Total bore but, eh, it works. I get money outta it anyway.”
The final statement was followed up by brief smirk on his face, looking away for a split second. In a flash, it was gone. Mugman frowned a bit, suspicions roused, but didn't question. He wouldn’t touch on it at the dinner table- least of all in front of their grandfather.
“...Right,” was Mugman's only response, seeming a little hesitant, but his frown eased a little.
Before another silence could settle in, Cuphead sat up in his seat, looking up at his brother with a smirk. “So, where've you been? Y’ don’t normally go out, Mugs. Nearly fainted when I was told y’ were meetin’ up with somebody,” Cuphead joked, the smirk turning into a grin, “so who’s the lovely lady, 'en? Don't tell me you pulled Cala- you wouldn't break the bro-code.”
“I wouldn’t even dream a’ breakin’ the bro-code. But it ain't a girl,” Mugman answered, instantly blushing when Cuphead let out a loud 'oooooh’, that grin on his face only growing and Mugman couldn't help but giggle a little. “It ain't romantic… He's just a friend.”
Both Elder Kettle and Cuphead raised their brows at that. “What? I'm serious!” Mugman stammered, face still flushed blue.
“Mhmmmm, o’ course,” Cuphead looked like a Cheshire cat with how wide his snarky smile was, “so, who's your 'friend’?”
Mugman smiled a little to himself, looking down at the floor, before meeting Cuphead’s expectant gaze. “...Cagney.”
“Cagney?!” Cuphead suddenly yelled out, causing the other two to jump up as the tone of conversation took a u-turn. “You're hanging around with- with Cagney?!”
“Oh, I remember when that flower was just a little sprout,” Kettle mused adoringly, beginning to plate up their dinners, “he was so sweet. Hilda used to carry 'im around in this little flower pot. It was always so cute to see her runnin’ around with that little flower.”
“Y’ gotta be joshin’ me! Cagney Carnation, of all people? He’s the rudest resident this side of Inkwell! He's horrible!” Cuphead grumbled, very clearly displeased, muttering a 'thanks’ as a plate of food was put infront of him. “I don't like 'im.”
Kettle sat down at the head of the table, hands folded infront of him. Mugman had only rolled his eyes at Cuphead's comment. “He's nice to me, Cups! He's actually kinda charming,” Mugman replied with a little shrug, “and I'm going to meet him tomorrow.”
“I think that's sweet,” Kettle spoke softly, patting Mugman on the shoulder, “don't y’ think, Cuphead? Cagney’s a nice fellow. You should give him a chance.”
“Yuck,” Cuphead scrunched up his nose, clearly he had a distaste for the said flower. He scooped up a mouthful of food, shuffling a bit in his seat. “There is no way that- that dandelion is gettin’ another chance outta me! He was so rude about the whole soul contract thing. That big old weed is just… he's just… grumpy! And he's mean. He hit me with a vine once.”
“Wh- he did?” Mugman instantly became concerned, taken aback, suddenly beginning to have second thoughts. Cagney wouldn't do that, would he? “Why?”
“Well, y’know I was jus' passin’ through,” Cuphead  started, “and this little flower kid is following me around so I tell it to buzz off, y’know? But it didn't… So I shot at it.”
“Well there's your answer,” Kettle interjected, shaking his head a little, “you shouldn't attack things like that.”
“It didn't leave me alone though!” Cuphead quickly came to defend himself, his expression turning sour. “I didn't wanna do it, it wasn't even that hurt... It was jus’ one dumb flower.”
“Those are his children, Cups!” Mugman argued, reaching out to poke at Cuphead's hand, to which the older brother grunted. “He's really protective of 'em, y’know? You'd be mad too if you had kids.”
Cuphead glared at that, teeth clenched a little. “Good thing that I don't,” Cuphead growled back, cutting the conversation off there. His now foul mood made the quiet air that fell upon them awkward. It wasn't like Cuphead to get in such a bitter state so quickly. Mugman's previous suspicions were roused again...
Kettle gave a look to Mugman, shaking his head a little, his expression one of concern. Kettle must've had the same thought he had. Thankfully Cuphead didn't notice them both roll their eyes.
Once dinner was over, Cuphead hastily got up with his own plate and cutlery. He dumped it into the sink, before stomping upstairs, his footsteps quickly becoming distant as he sulked off. Mugman flinched a little when he heard the bedroom door slam. He let out a soft sigh, picking up his own plate and Kettle’s, making his way over to the sink and began to clean up.
He paused from washing up when he heard Kettle stand up and begin to head up the stairs. “Wait, p-pops!” Mugman called, quickly running over, “I- I’ll talk to him. Don't worry about it.”
Kettle let out a frustrated huff, but he turned around and came back downstairs. Mugman smiled, relieved, reaching out and taking his grandfather's hand to guide him to his chair in the living room.
“I just don't know what's wrong with him, Mugs,” Kettle spoke softly, leaning back in his seat, “he's been so… grouchy recently…”
“I know, I know,” Mugman pat his shoulder gently, trying his best to be reassuring. Internally, his concern grew for his brother, recalling his earlier conversation with Cagney about Cuphead's gambling habit. He quickly decided not to mention it to Kettle. He didn't want him to worry, feeling guilt weigh down on his chest as he didn't like hiding things from his grandfather. But… He felt like he had a responsibility, to protect Cuphead from getting in trouble…
“It might jus’ be the change of seasons. He always gets grumpy in the cold,” Mugman reasoned, giving a shrug. Kettle seemed to be somewhat satisfied with that response.
Kettle’s arms folded across his chest, shaking his head a little. “I don't know, Mugs. Whatever it is… I'm sure he'll get over it,” He spoke softly, and before Mugman could turn away he caught his hand, “thank you…fer’ everything. You're so selfless and I… I can't thank you enough, Mugsy. Y’ better enjoy yourself out tomorrow with that Carnation. You deserve it.”
Mugman gave a little smile, gently squeezing his hand, his face becoming a bit blue at the mention of Cagney. “I’m sure I will. I’ll go see Cuphead after I clean up… Thanks, pops.”
“You're very welcome, son.”
With that, Mugman rushed back to the kitchen and turned away to finish washing up the dishes. He quietly hummed to himself as he cleaned up. Washing up was always therapeutic to him, and he found himself becoming lost in thought.
His mind slowly wandered back to Cagney as he scrubbed, leaning onto the counter a little as he looked out of the window just above the sink. It provided a view into the beginning of the forest where Cagney resided, though he couldn't really see it as it was so dark (neither did he have his glasses on, so it was difficult to see very far- he cursed himself a bit for forgetting to wear them when he really should).
‘Are we friends?’ Mugman found himself wondering, frowning a bit in thought as he began to scrub the dishes. He frowned a little in thought, staring out of the window at the dark forest right ahead. If he were a little younger, a little more naive, it would've been a definite yes, but now… He couldn't shake the feeling that Cagney might've just been tolerating him because he had to… especially after Cuphead's comments about the flower...
His lips curled down a bit. Cagney was always like that though, right? He just never really enjoyed people being around, and that was that.
Maybe it had just been too long. 'I probably should've been a better friend in the first place and kept in contact with him,’ he thought, 'then I wouldn't have this problem at all.’
'...It sure felt nice when I hugged him, though.’
Mugman's frown twitched into a smile, face flushing a little as he stifled a giggle. Then when he hugged back, even though his arms were really too long to hug properly... And when he put his hand on his shoulder to comfort him… It was sweet. He meant well. He shouldn't doubt Cagney so much.
'I guess it was kinda cute when I surprised him as well,’ Mugman pondered with a smile, 'was he sleeping? Hm… his petals felt nice to touch. I wonder if he liked it… What would that even feel like…?”
His train of thought was interrupted when he heard the door upstairs creak open, the floorboards groaning a little as someone stomped on them. His train of thought was promptly interrupted, hurrying to clean up the last of the dishes and cutlery before putting them aside to dry.
'Cuphead.’
In a hurry he just shook off his wet hands, flicking off the beads of water, before hastily making his way upstairs. As soon as Mugman saw him, Cuphead jolted, quickly shifting so his hands were behind his back. He couldn't look more guilty.
“Cups?” Mugman blinked, and Cuphead only stared back, shifting backwards to put more distance between them. “What are you hiding…?” Mugman quietly asked as he stepped up onto the landing, eyes slowly narrowing as Cuphead glanced about uncomfortably. He looked ready to run away- that was affirmed when Cuphead finally made eye contact and let out a nervous chuckle.
“Oh, nothin’, Mugs,” he answered, clearly trying to sound as nonchalant as possible, swaying playfully as if trying to look natural, “I dunno what yer on about.”
But it wasn't going to fool him. “What's in your hand?”
“I told ya. Nothin',” Cuphead chuckled again, “Dunno why yer even--”
“Prove it,” Mugman demanded, cutting him off. The faux look of innocence was quickly replaced by surprise, then irritation. “I wasn't born yesterday, Cups.”
There was silence, Cuphead glaring at him for a moment, before finally the elder brother spoke. “Fine,” he hissed, bitterness lacing his tone as he held out his hands. Mugman blinked, looking down at the item in his palm. It took him a moment to identify it, but it was undoubtedly a silver flask. Upon further inspection, that was undoubtedly King Dice’s brand etched onto the face of it...
Mugman’s own expression slipped into shock, before falling into disappointment. There was only one place he could've gotten it from... Why had he gone back to Inkwell Hell? What was he doing in that filthy casino again? Hadn't he learned from last time?
His mind swam with thoughts, but all he could utter was; “why?”
“...I… I dunno, Mugsy,” Came the quiet response, scowl fading into shame, “I- I’m sorry.”
“You've said that before, Cuphead,” Mugman exclaimed, “you said sorry but... you didn't do anything…” Much to his own dismay, Mugman’s eyes began to water, suddenly feeling overwhelmed. His throat and chest felt tight, but he forced himself to continue. “And- and you even went back t-there! What were you thinking? Do you even know what they put in that? They coulda’ spiked it, knowing that shady place--”
“I don't know why I went there, okay?! I jus’ wanted to- I thought it’d be fun! But I lost every single fuckin’ round against that stupid Dice anyway,” Cuphead gave a huff, pocketing the flask, “an’ he said he put bourbon in it. I had some, tasted fine. So I'm fine, okay? I'm fine.”
Mugman sniffled a bit, bottom lip quivering lightly. Without a word, Cuphead pulled him into an embrace, nuzzling softly against his shoulder as he heard Mugman begin to sob, clearly overwhelmed by emotion. The younger brother quickly returned the hug, gripping onto the back of Cuphead's t-shirt.
“Look, Mugsy… I'm sorry… I really am.” Cuphead said softly, one hand reaching up to stroke down his back gently. Mugman’s breath hitched, holding onto him tighter. “Please… You don't gotta be so worried 'bout me. I promise I'll be alright.”
“B-But- but what if you aren't, C-Cups…?” Came the meek response, followed by a gentle hiccup. “I j-just don't want to see you get h-hurt… I don't want anything b-bad to happen again…”
Cuphead moved away from the hug, reaching up to wipe away Mugman's tears. “I-Is that why you were so mad tonight? C-Cos’ you lost?” He asked quietly as his brother thumbed away the tears that spilled down his face. His question was answered when Cuphead looked away for a few seconds, before making eye contact again. “H-How much?”
“...All 'f it…” Cuphead hesitantly replied, “I didn't mean to take it out on ya…”
“No… I know,” Mugman gave a little smile, reaching up to brush away the last of the tears that leaked out of his eyes, “it’s… okay... It'll be okay,” he reassured himself, taking a deep breath, before exhaling. “I'm… sorry for gettin’ so upset…”
Cuphead smiled weakly in return, moving to wrap his arm around Mugman's shoulder with a light pat. “That's alright, lil’ brother,” he said, gently clinking his head against his brothers, “look... I'm so… so, so sorry… I wasn't thinkin’… I promise, I'll get better.”
Mugman gave a little nod. “Y-yeah…” He murmured, his own arm wrapping around Cuphead's waist. His crying had made him rather sleepy, leaning against the other a bit. “I… I'm tired. I better go to bed. I gotta get up early.”
He slipped away from his brother, turning to give him one last smile, before disappearing into his room with one last “goodnight”. Cuphead smiled back, reaching up to scratch the back of his neck.
Once the door had clicked shut however, Cuphead let out a loud sigh.
'Might as well finish it whilst I can,’ he mused internally, reaching for the flask in his pocket and promptly chugging down the last of its contents.
“Um, sorry I didn't really bring you much, Mister Carnation…” Mugman scratched the side of his porcelain head, stopping just before him, “I don't really know what flowers… um… eat.”
Much to his relief, Cagney wasn't offended or disappointed by this. Instead, he merely shrugged. “We don't really eat, so to speak,” he answered, “it’s hard to explain. I mean, I could probably eat 'normal’ food, but… I've never tried it.”
Cagney quickly patted the ground beside him as an invitation for him to come over and sit beside him, and Mugman quickly obliged. He took extra care to step over any flowers, before quietly sitting down on the grass next to him. He pulled his messenger bag up onto his lap, pulling it open from its buckles. “Well, today's your lucky day,” Mugman chirruped, reaching into his bag. Cagney leant down a little curiously, blinking when he pulled out his lunchbox.
Inside, Mugman felt a little bit embarrassed... He'd had this lunchbox since he was very young. The face of it had tacky stickers plastered all over it, and his name was clumsily written in the corner. The writing, as well as the stickers, had gotten worn away over the years but… he still felt fond of them, which was why he never made the effort to remove them. A bit childish, he knew, and now he was regretting not switching his lunchbox with Cuphead's just this once. He dismissed the thought, however, as he quickly clinked the box open, feeling Cagney’s gaze fixed on him. The thought of Cagney staring at him made his cheeks flush a little… but he soon shook his head, clinking the box open.
Cagney leant in further once it was open, head turning a little to see what was inside. Mugman smiled at the interest he'd taken. “By the look on y’ face, I would've thought you've never seen food before,” he mused aloud, and the flower actually gave a nod in response.
“I have a handful of times, but that was back when I lived with Hilda,” Cagney answered, “it's… kinda weird seeing it up close, actually. I don't know what I expected.”
Mugman actually giggled at him in return, not expecting such a response. This earned him a bit of a frown, but he didn't mind, and instead, he reached out to pat one of his petals playfully. “Well… since it's your first time…” he smirked, “you get first pick.”
The other had only flinched a bit in response to the pat, having not expected the contact, but didn't move away (which Mugman assumed was a good thing, since Cagney seemed a bit weird about touching). There was a hum of thought from him, eyes darting around the box, before hooking a donut on the end of his finger.
“What the heck is this?” He asked bluntly, bringing it to his face to inspect it. He didn't seem to like the feeling of the sugar that fell off as he picked it up, scowling at the residue it left on his finger, before promptly brushing it off.
“That's a donut- well, it's a sugar donut,” he explained, “it's sweet. Really sweet. Try it- y’ might like it.”
There was still a hint of confusion on Cagney’s face, his head tilting a bit. “I just…” he gave a little sigh, pulling it off the end of his finger and into his palm, “it's looks weird. What if I don't like it?”
“Then you don't eat it,” Mugman answered simply, shrugging, “I'm not gonna be mad if y’ don't like 'em... Just a donut, y'know? It's not gourmet.”
There was a second of hesitation, and he looked a little uncertain. Mugman was going to say something, however Cagney had already quickly scoffed it down in one go, swallowing hard without chewing. He cringed a little at the sight, eyes widening a little at the sudden motion, before nervously chuckling. Cagney probably grew up without table manners, after all, so he supposed it made sense that he'd just hawk it down without thinking twice.
“Well, was it alright or not?” Mugman asked quietly after a moment.
“To be honest, Mugman... I didn't really taste anything,” The response was as blunt and as flat as anything, stroking his chin in thought. Mugman brought a hand up to his forehead, laughing at how ridiculous he was. It only brought confusion to Cagney, however. “Wh-what's so funny?”
“You! You’re supposed to chew it first- n-not just wolf it down,” Mugman continued to giggle, much to the others embarrassment, “I've never seen somebody eat wrong before but you’ve managed t’ pull it off…”
Cagney’s arms crossed, looking embarrassed now. “W-Well, I'm sorry that I don't know how to eat properly,” he grumbled, face going red which only prompted another laugh out of Mugman. “Hey… hey! Stop laughing! It's not funny!”
“It is! It’s funny- no, it's hilarious,” Mugman continued to laugh, slapping his leg, face flushed blue from laughter. Cagney let out a snort of frustration, which only made him giggle even harder. “Oh c’mon, lighten up! I'm just messin’ wit’ ya!”
Mugman’s teasing laughter began to fade when Cagney gave a glare, face reddened, before sharply turning and pulling down two of his petals hard in embarrassment. He could hear the frustrated huff that came from him. Mugman soon reached out to take a hold of his hand, trying to stop him from pulling at himself. “W-Wait! Cagney, don't do that- you'll hurt yourself!” He cried, voice gripped with urgency as he tried to pull his hands away.
Cagney tensed up visibly, and Mugman could hear him grumble a bit. His needle-like thorns began to emerge from his body. Obviously, he was very agitated. “Mister Carnation…” Mugman's voice was low now, hoping he hadn't upset him too much, now being careful of those thorns, “I'm sorry. I was kiddin’. I promise… I don't mean it.”
Despite Cagney’s strained form, his hand didn't move from Cagney’s, his thumb gently tracing over his knuckles. He could feel him begin to relax, before he slowly let go of himself. Mugman smiled as he turned his head back to him, hand slipping into his palm and gave a gentle squeeze. Cagney wore a bit of a sheepish look, face still dyed a little red, before clasping his larger hand around his.
“Why d’ya do that?” Mugman asked, voice laced with soft concern, allowing him to hold his hand. He smiled sweetly at him- Cagney seemed a little anxious, after all. He went quiet as his thorns slowly withdrew- that was good thing, at least. “It's okay, Mister Carnation. I'm sorry for makin’ fun of you.”
“Ah, really, Mugman, just Cagney is fine. Sorry for getting so… flustered,” He mumbled in response, “...I, er, um... it's a habit. I used to do it when I was little, when I got scared.”
Mugman frowned in worry. “Have y’ ever pulled out a petal on accident?”
“...Yeah,” he let out a little 'tch’ to himself, “a lot of times, actually, heh. It really hurts when it happens… they don't grow back so quick anymore, either.”
“Golly, what am I gonna do with you?” Mugman sighed, moving his lunchbox and bag aside so he could scoot closer to him. “What if they don't grow back one day, mister- I mean, Cagney? What will you do?”
“We... nothing. I’ll live with it. I mean, I'll have to,” the answer was flat, and unsatisfying, followed up by a shrug. Mugman frowned a bit, leaning onto his shoulder.
“I think you worry too much,” Cagney commented idly after a moment, “you should relax a little.”
Mugman let out a 'pfft'. “...You sound like my brother.”
“Oh God forbid,” Cagney groaned, the sarcasm in his voice exaggerated, which made Mugman chuckle. Cagney gave a small smile at his laughter. “Oh, hey, did you talk to Cuphead after? ...What's up with him?”
Mugman's face dropped a bit, shaking his head. “He wasted his earnings down Inkwell Hell yesterday…” he began, his unoccupied hand reaching to rub his neck out of nervousness, “and he had a flask with 'im. I- I dunno. He said he'd stop but- but I dunno, Cagney. I don't know if I should believe him… what do you think?”
There was a hum of thought, before Cagney gave a nod. “I think he will. You're worried sick about him. Anyone can see that,” he reassured, “he'd be stupid not to.”
“Well he's been making a lot of stupid decisions recently,” Mugman grunted, letting out a deep huff of frustration. He then shook his head. This wasn't a very good topic for conversation. “I shouldn't… I shouldn't think about it. I shouldn't put my problems on you. Sorry, Cagney…”
“Uh, hey, don't worry about it! It's okay, I promise,” He quickly chimed back. The light response was a pleasant surprise. Finally, Mugman felt himself relax, the tenseness in his shoulders leaving and he slacked a little.
“Thank you,” he breathed, head still resting on his shoulder. In fact, he was talking so much, that he'd forgotten their hands were linked. That brought colour to his face again. He could felt his heart beat a little quicker... Cagney seriously didn't mind this? His chest felt like little flowers were growing and blooming inside of him. 'Th-this is so nice…’
“Mugman? Um… we are friends,” Cagney piped up after a moment, before glancing down at Mugman, “right?”
There was a pause. Mugman was taken aback by the question. But soon, he nodded, smiled up at him, and shifted closer. “Yes- without a doubt, Cagney.”
Cagney had mumbled a 'thanks’, and looked away. He assumed it was to conceal that smile, but he'd caught sight of it before he turned. He really was shy, wasn't he? Mugman stifled a giggle, nuzzling against his arm. That was one thing Rumor was right about… he really was just a big dork...
The silence was peaceful. He felt like he could fall asleep right then and there. Resting against his stem wasn't particularly comfy, but the closeness… it was pleasant. Maybe a bit more than pleasant, actually. He'd never been so close to another like this before. It genuinely felt nice. He felt more at ease than he had in awhile. No gramps to worry about, no Cuphead to worry about, no errands to get to.
He felt his eyes begin to shut, drowsiness growing. Maybe five minutes wouldn't hurt...
He was jolted awake as Cagney’s hand withdrew from his before he slipped into slumber, letting out a mumble of protest as he was pulled away from sleep so suddenly. “Tired?” Cagney asked, and Mugman nodded back. He smirked, “it’s because you stress yourself out, like I said, see? You get tired easily… let me help you into a more comfortable position.”
Cagney summoned a vine with a large leaf attached to it, curling it on the ground beside him. He shooed away some of his brood, making some space for their guest. Gently, Mugman was lifted, his head resting on the leaf. It was a make-shift pillow; though it was much better to rest against rather than Cagney’s shoulder, he found himself missing being at his side. But he feeling too sleepy to argue.
“Th-thank you…” Mugman murmured, eyes fluttering closed again. Another couple of vines popped up, some with leaves and little buds on them, gently wrapping around his body to act as a blanket. Before he drifted to sleep, he felt Cagney’s finger gently stroke his cheek, before he leant down to nuzzle against the rim of his head.
“You're more than welcome, my little bluebell...”

Digimon frontier ocs?
Randomly started rewatching CactusCasual's great Digimon Frontier critique series. He's leaving youtube soon and making the weird decision to delete his whole account and everything he's ever done. But he's uploaded a bunch of his best stuff to google drive so if people wanna keep.it they can. Still i think its a lil dumb to not just leave the account open even if you're not using it? I dont know anything about why he's quitting the site though so maybe he has his reasons.
ANYWAY this got me thinking again about how Frontier is so goddamn boring and weirdly cliche and badly paced, and like everyone just focuses on "but they changed how digivolution works" and ignores all the actual reasons its bad. Like, kids have fused with digimon in previous seasons too! And haven't we all wished we could be the awesome characters like angemon and etc? A digimonny power rangers henshin thing isnt an inherantly bad idea, it was just executed badly. I dislike it cos it meant we completely lost any sort of digimon and human bonding experience plotline. They gave us two recurring digimon characters but they were just basically a pokedex and the world's least funny comic relief. Gimme a version of the show where the kids actually talk to their "spirit evolutions"! Like maybe they have a digimon partner but its forever stuck in baby form or spirit egg form and cant fight without fusing with a human host? Or just give us a better non-combat digimon pal like bokomon and neemon but like.. Fully developed with their own character arc and relationships with everyone else. Maybe ophanimon could have been around the whole time and been a mentor and parental figure? And we could actually explore her moral ambiguity, cos seriously the show makes her kind of a "ends justify the means" asshole and just NEVER AKNOWLEDGES IT. Wtf was up with that scene where she illusions Cherubimon with a fake dream of him being purified and getting to just go back home and be friends? And then she just backstabs him and we never mention it again. Like seriously even if she couldnt actually cure him that scene at least revealed that he WANTED to be cured and it made him so much more sympathetic! If he can be reasoned with, maybe they could have talked him down and then gone on an adventure together to find an actual cure for him? Also seriously what is up with his entire plot! Cos he just gets 'infected with darkness' cos he 'had darkness in his soul' but its just cos he thought the humanoid digimon were being racist against the beast digimon? And like.. The council was 2/3rds humanoid with him as the only beast representative and since he got infected by evilness they never remotely tried to recruit a new one or listen to what beast digimon have to say. So he was kinda right, yo! Also wtf with the reveal that actually no everything we just said is pointless because his REAL motivation was just blindly obeying ANOTHER humanoid digimon that comes out of nowhere to be the final boss. Also what is up with all the increased sexism in this series!! Its so weirdly worse than even adventure which had the excuse of being "a product of the times" yet still had way better variety of female characters and less bigoted stuff! And frontier came right after tamers which was one of the best series for gender equality and even used the medium of the setting as an opportunity to talk about the subject. Shame they censored that in the dub tho, Renamon talking about how digimon have no biological sex and how she only came to think of herself as a girl when she came to the human world. And rika's family accepting her and inviting her to family girls's night and stuff! Like as a metaphor for transgender issues it really worked to try and explain it to a younger audience in a natural way. And then one season later in frontier we have ONLY ONE GIRL IN THE CAST and wah wah whining about fashion and oh no she cant ever win a fight and her goddamn spirit form is in skimpy lingerie despite her being 12, and the show is always perving on her! And then she loses her powers halfway through the first season without winning a single fight, and has to be the damsel in distress to motivate the dudes in a stupid love triangle. And even when she does get to fight she's only allowed to fight the ONE SINGLE GIRL ON THE VILLAIN TEAM and they have stupid slap fights and "who's the most pretty" and BEACH EPISODE and GAHHHHH
...anyway as you can see i have a lot of reasons why i didnt really like the series. But what i meant to make this post about (BEFORE I GOT DISTRACTED) is that the fundemental concept itself isnt bad, they just wasted all its potential. And its a really good concept for ocs! Make your own digi superhero person and explore the fragmented world doing stuff offscreen during the series! Like they left so much open?? We know that other kids also got on other trains to the digiworld and they all just failed or gave up or got captured by the bad guys. And we know there's a bunch of spirits that the heroes never use because the villains got them again, so its cool to imagine an alt universe where the roles were swapped. What if different kids became the chosen heroes? What if different spirits were corrupted by the villains? What would a good guy Grumblemon be like? What would the kid be like who got that spirit? Would their evolution form be wildly different from grumblemon? Do the villain forms and purified forms look as different as Duskmon and Lowemon did?
SO MUCH POTENTIAL!!!
So yeah i wasted so much space here blabbering, so i'll probably make a separate post about my oc ideas lol. But i'd love to see other people's ideas for ocs/reinterpretations/other ways to fix that wasted potential!
So! Digimon frontier oc ideas!
To start off, have an undeveloped idea of someone on the team having Angemon as their spirit evolution. Cos it would have made the transition to such a new series a lot easier if they had some sort of "hey this is for you" to the fans of the previous ones. And angemon is the Adventure digimon that already looks the most like a regular human in a weird mask.
SPEAKING OF WHICH! less regular humans in weird masks! Whats the point of "you turn into a digimon" if you dont turn into a digimon? Like i know the whole gimmick is "humanoid mode and beast mode" but even the beast modes often look like humans in a costume! And there's been so many humanoid digimon before who actually looked like HUMANOID MONSTERS rather than just normal dudes cosplaying! There's literally nothing "monster" about agunimon, he's just a guy in some knight armour. Like the most you can do is charitably assume maybe the horns are his own and not just attatched to the helmet. And its annoying cos the villains have way cooler evolutions! And also double annoying that they always bend the humanoid/beast rule in such transparently self serving ways. Tommy gets two beast forms cos he's meant to be the cute mascot-looking character. Zoey gets two human forms cos she's meant to be grossly sexualized all the time. When kouichi turns from bad to good he loses his interesting looking actually monsterous evolutions and just becomes another dude in an armour. A friggin palette swap of his brother!
Anyway anyway LOL IM RAMBLING AGAIN yo...
Ideas for ocs!
I was thinking of a main girl character who's basically just a "fuk u" to all the stereotypes they did with Zoey. Actually gets a monster lookin beast form and a warrior lookin human form and actually gets to goddamn fight! Maybe her name is Hilda or Hildegarde? And i'm imagining her as a chubby nerdy kid with glasses and curly hair and a super cute oversized sweater kind of fashion sense. And her main spirit form would be this super badass lady knight giant orc thing who can Protec All The Peoples! Maybe earth element or the irony of being light element but she's this big ol monster goblin with just a tiny pair of angel wings on the back, lol! And then her personality is normally super shy and socially anxious, but she actually finds the digimon world kind of freeing? She's a total badass in battle and acts like a big ol powerful protector of all her friends! And she's always super excited aboyt adventuring and gets carried away comparing stuff to her favourite books. And now we must learn everything about this new place!! TO THE DIGI LIBRARY!!! So she's able to be confident and bubbly when it comes to actual adventure stuff, but she's still shy about regular life and anything social. Maybe its her weakness? Like she's scared about going home because she thinks she'll be "just a nobody" again, and lose all the great friends she made here. And also maybe a backstory of her heroic side still existing even before she got magic powers, but in the most tragic way? She managed to fend off a burglar once all on her own, she just snapped and did everything possible to defend her family, even though this was a man three times her size! But instead of being seen as a hero it just made all the neighbours and kids at school spread rumours about her being dangerous. Oh she must be in *a gang* if she knew how to fight like that! Oh its so *dangerous* for a kid that age to have such anger inside! Maybe she's a *scary mentally ill person*! So the whole situation ruined her social status even more and made her retreat even more inside her shell. And this is why the circumstances of the digital world are such a wish fullfillment for her and she's so scared of just waking up and it all being a dream. I think the villains could manipulate her fears, and it could maybe lead to her Skullgreymon Moment?
And then another idea i had was for a trans boy? I just thought this would be a good framework to explore LGBT stuff. He'd maybe be the wind element? And his personality would be very "classic shonen hero" but without the "dumbass" part, instead he's the cynical planner type dude while Hilda is the "i didnt even think, i just wanted to save everyone" type. But he's still super peppy and tries to be the class clown all the time so people will like him, and loves to climb trees and stuff. I think maybe his fighting style would be all about trickery and random chance? If there was such a thing as an element of surprise then he'd have that one! And then his story is that he doesn't have anyone supporting him for who he truly is at home, and he's afraid that his new friends will call him a freak too if they find out. He took the opportunity and cut his hair short as soon as this adventure started, and just introduced himself to everyone as a boy. But he's scared that people will find out he "lied" even though he didnt, he's just been so beaten down with the idea that he's not allowed to be himself and he has to pretend to be everyone else's idea of an ideal cis man or else they'll reject him. So maybe he starts off a bit obsessed with cliche masculinity and has low confidence about himself? And this could reflect in his digivolutions actually changing! He starts off with a really over the top buff warrior dude form, even though his fighting style is entirely about speed and trickery. So he tends to get into trouble with this fake form getting in the way of his ability to fight. And then when everyone accepts him he gets all powered up and changes into a new form! A way less "cliche macho" dude who looks like a stage magician instead and actually synchronizes with his element to become super powerful! And he's all like "oh no i became less manly" but everyone is like "wtf dont let yourself believe you're any less of a man because of dumb stereotypes!" And Also Big Friendship Hugs.
And then maybe this provides a resolution to both him and Hilda's plots? Like when the story is over they still stay friends in the real world, and having a friend who supports them gives them enough power to withstand all the haters and stay confident in themselves. But itd be kind of a coincidence for all the digidestined to live in the same city lol! So maybe in real life they live at least a few towns away, and they become long distance pals who send letters/emails. Because I LOVE ALL MY LONG DISTANCE PALS!! Also itd make sense to have a Internet Good message in a digimon show, lol.
And then i dunno about the rest of the team yet but i thought itd be good to have a sort of moral divide? Like these are the two who have a shitty home life and dont want to leave the digital world. But then the other half of the group has big reasons to wanna go home. So the villains could play on this difference in goals and make them fight amoungst each other. Just generally make the villains more actually competant, yknow? Oh also if there's a Dark Agunimon on the villains he needs to be EVEN MORE of a boring human in a costume! Cos it sucks that all the villains have better character designs and the show seems to think theyre worse ones. Give me one case of more boring not meaning more heroic!
