From • @vagina_museum "Du Oder Ich" (You Or Me) by Maria Lassnig, 2005. Lassnig was an Austrian painter known for her self portraits and the "body awareness" theory that she put into them - a way of representing bodily sensations. She was 85 years old when she painted this provocative self portrait of her ageing body and her sense of terror and violence. This piece belongs to a private collection. #marialassnig #artbywomen #selfportrait https://www.instagram.com/p/CpQCLQejsWX_R5XzNuESw9aWwGcUT6wiWs9IzY0/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Celebrating @LondonArtFair 2022 when these two works found a happy new home, courtesy of the fab @cynthiacorbettgallery! 🥂 'Florence Lightingale' and 'On Vacation, June 2020', both from the #CouchSurfingSeries created during that time we all know so well now, when we were doing our travelling in between our ears.  https://www.cristinaschek.co.uk/couchsurfing-series That was a time when several of me were wearing several hats, doing several jobs and dreaming several dreams. All accomplished. Several times. With help from several remarkable women. 🥂🥂🥂 🙏🙏🙏 #LAF #LondonArtFair #LAF23 #FOTF #FocusOnTheFemale #FocusOnTheFemaleAward  #CynthiaCorbettGallery #YoungMastersArtPrize #FemaleArtists #ArtByWomen #herearethewomenartists #womenartists #supportwomenartists #ContemporaryArt  #womeninthearts #womeninphotography #womenphotographers #surrealart #surrealism #surrealartist #fineartphotography  #womeninvisualart #LondonArt #CouchsurfingSeries https://www.instagram.com/p/CnuaAkOKwRm/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Challenging society’s unrealistic expectations of a female’s body image, French artist Inés Longevial has developed a distinct way in which her subjects are painted. By focusing on the power of a woman’s body and composition of posture, and by fragmenting shapes and colors, she sets out to celebrate the uniqueness of womanhood with her art. Photograph mounted on board, 10 by 8 inches (photograph) © Nickolas Muray Photo Archives. Except as noted, the objects illustrated are in the collection of the family of Mariska Karasz
Mariska Karasz (1898 in Budapest, Hungary – August 27, 1960 in Danbury, Connecticut) was an American fashion designer, author, and textile artist.
She had a passion for fashion design and created colorful, patterned garments largely inspired by the folk art of her native country.
Her abstract wall hangings mixing fibers such as silk, cotton, wool, and hemp with horsehair and wood garnered her extensive national, and even international, attention. Critics repeatedly praised her for her skillful and unusual use of color, her creative combinations of materials, and her inspiring efforts to promote a modern approach to embroidery. via Wikipedia

Let's celebrate the sapphic urge to spend the 1920s prolifically creating beautiful female gaze art of your wife. Here are some of Gerda Wegener's paintings of her wife, Lili Elbe. Gerda and Lili married in 1904 while Lili was living as a man. Both were painters, although Gerda was more successful. She painted portraits, fashion illustrations and even some er*tic scenes. Many of her works featured her wife as a model. In almost all of them, Lili appears as a woman, although in "Summer's Day" she appears as both the nude woman and the man at the easel. Why not seek out Gerda Wegener's work and see how many times you can find Lili in the paintings?⠀ ⠀ All paintings are by Gerda Wegener.⠀ 1. Hot Summer, 1924⠀ 2. Solitaire, 1928⠀ 3. From Les Delassements d’Eros, 1925⠀ 4. Woman with mask, 1925⠀ 5. Portrait with green feather fan, 1920⠀ 6. From Les Delassements d’Eros, 1925⠀ 7. Summer's Day, 1927⠀ ⠀ #lgbthistorymonth #femalegaze #lilielbe #artbywomen #lgbtartists #lgbthistory https://www.instagram.com/p/CZhnn6OsvEqFC5xarKRdyPjg_9ZjuTFgUNAtg40/?utm_medium=tumblr
