Ironically, as #BlackWallStreet was set ablaze by angry white mobs in Tulsa, #BlackBroadway set #thetheatre world on fire - attracting unprecedented white audiences. Lauded for its unheralded introduction of #BlackLove, the Shuffle Along production pushed America forward, allowing two Black people to #fallinlove #onstage. Regarded as the epitome of the #HarlemRenaissance, the Shuffle Along #musical ran #onBroadway for a record setting 500-some-odd performances. Despite being critiqued by skeptics [for boldly daring to shine a light on #BLACKONBLACKLOVE during a time when Black Sexuality was considered dangerous and #AmericanTheatre was still in blackface], anomalous aesthetics such as "more than the usual number of comedians under cork in one show," vivacious dancers, and an all-black cast set the tone for the landmark #musicalcomedy to breakdown color barriers. Noble Sissle and Eubie Blake broke racist traditions when they performed in tuxedos. Noble Sissle, a lyricist and vocalist, and Eubie Blake, a composer and pianist, were the first black performers in the U.S. that refused to perform in blackface. The Noble Sissle and Eubie Blake piano-vocal duo's commitment to present authentic black artistry went far beyond music. The musical duo appeared as a vaudeville act and were featured in pioneering sound films. The prominent pair revolutionized the American stage with #ShuffleAlong. Shuffle Along; a musical, co-written with Flournoy Miller and Aubrey Lyles; gave birth to #blacktheatre. Noble Sissle and Eubie Blake broke color barriers when Shuffle Along became the first black musical to appear #onBroadway. Shuffle Along ran a recorded setting 500 performances on #Broadway, launching the careers of the most sought after #blackentertainers; including, Florence Mills, Josephine Baker, and Paul Robenson. Nobble Sissle and Eubie Blake may be best known for their musical talents; which introduced #Jazz to the Silver Screen. However; we salute their #audicity and #selfrespect. Their courage to present themselves as #respectableblackmen during performances and their dedication to provide a platform that portrayed blacks beyond racial stereotypes inspired a movement.
