Jason but he was never claimed.
Everyone knows he's the son of Jupiter.
He's known his whole life.
From his mother's whispers to not cry in storms, for they were a sign of his father's love.
To Lupa's howls and harsh temperament that this was not behaviour fitting Jupiter's son.
But never was Jason ever claimed.
There was never a lighting bolt dancing overhead.
No fanfare.
No cheers.
Because Thalia had a use, and she was favoured.
The one he actually tried to save instead of turning a blind eye.
But Jason?
He was the bitter reminder of a mortal having sway over the God's.
Over Jupiter himself.
He was nothing but afaceless soilder raised to fall in battle when his time was up.
Why should the King himself care for one so... Pitiful.
So Jupiter never claimed him.
Didn't acknowledge him until Jason dare spoke out against him.
But Jupiter always knew exactly who that boy was.
He even named him.
He just didn't care.
Jason knew, had known but it was something he never shared.
It was a dark secret, a shameful one.
For you see without being claimed, Jason could never access his full power.
He heard the laughter, the mocks and the digs.
Of how could the Prince of the Sky's be so weak.
Luckily he'd never had another like him to measure up to at Camp Jupiter.
... Which lead him to the bittersweet reunion with his sister.
Thalia was every bit the striking daughter of Zeus.
She even looked like him while Jason shamefully resembled their mother.
Thalia never put him down, never even insinuated he was weak.
Even glaring down anyone she caught whispering at his expense.
But Jason could see the confusion on her face when he failed something she did like breathing.
He would just smile and try again to no avail.
He waited for the day she left him too.
It came to ahead one night when his friends were all there. Laughing and smiling till their cheeks went red.
"And the dress! Ugh it was so embarrassing." Cries Piper, setting off another wave off laughter.
"Oh man, I'm glad I didn't get a dress. I'd burn it off." Declared Thalia with a snort before lightly elbowing Jason.
"Lucky we just got the lighting treatment, ey Jason?" Jason paused, nodding immediately "right..."
Something must've shown on his face because Thalia frowned.
But the one to ask was Leo "hey yeah we never saw yours! Must've been something special for Mr Prince of the Universe himself. Sooo what it was like?"
Jason looked down.
He shouldn't say it, but they were all looking at him expectantly.
He didn't want to let them down.
... But what if they left him because of it?
Sure they fought a war together but Jason learned quickly that can sometimes mean nothing.
But lying to them almost felt worse.
"I... I don't know..."
"What? Sorry can you, say that louder? Can't hear you man."
"I don't...I don't, I wasn't..." He took a deep breathe. "I don't know what it was like because I wasn't... I haven't been claimed."
Silence.
Dread filled his bones, Jason didn't dare look up to see the disgust on their faces.
"That bastard!"
Jason blinked in suprise, hesitantly looking up.
And finding anger.
But not aimed at him.
"How... How are you... How are you still alive?!" Cried Thalia, anger blazed through her eyes.
But there was very clearly fear alongside of them.
Jason didn't understand.
"Before I got claimed I couldn't use my powers without getting tired so damn easily...and that was just your run of the mill monsters..." explained Thalia, seething.
Jason had fought "run of the mill monsters" since he could walk.
Percy clenched his fist "I knew he wouldn't keep his damn promise but... This is low even for him."
His eyes widened in realisation. And gave way to more anger.
"He knew... He knew this whole time! And he didn't do anything! We were fighting Gaea and he didn't..."
No one wanted to add on that it wasn't the first war either.
Jason felt tears well up in his eyes, he'd never known it to be an injustice against him.
He always thought he had deserved it. And he was supposed to die anyway soo... Why waste your powers unlocking his?
.... And by the look of horror everuone was giving him, Jason had spoken that part out loud.
"Jase...you are not a waste of anything. None of this was your fault." Said Piper firmly, angry tears in her eyes.
"She's right, none of this is right...which is why I have half a mind to go ask him what the Hades he was thinking..." Seethed Annabeth.
Nico nodded, his anger was quiet but simmering along the surface.
"I don't get why your so mad at him though... I should've... I should've been better." Said Jason, he'd never experienced something like this before.
If he wasn't so useless maybe his father would've cared about him.
"Besides, I already knew I was his son, that he didn't want me...I always have."
That little admission broke of all their hearts.
"That doesn't make this right Jase, and I know deep down you know that." Said Thalia, gently pulling him into a hug.
"We're gonna fix this, because you deserve it. You deserve so much and I'm going to spend every day of my life proving that to you."
"Me two."
"Me three."
They all began chiming in.
Tears spilled from Jason's cheeks, and for once Lupa's yells of them being weakness fell on death ears.
He was loved.
Jason rested his head on his sisters shoulder as everyone began brainstorming, threathing and maiming.
It was the most loved he'd ever felt.
Jason had always known Jupiter hadn't loved him back.
Would never love him back.
Jason had given up on anyone truly caring about him... And now he knew that he was loved by his little family.
It was worth more than his father's praise ever could.
"You think re-stealing the master bolt might do it?"
"Let's try to make sure we're still alive after this."
"... So that's a no?"

A Heroes of Olympus… Rant? Idk
So, I’ve been in a bit of a reading slump so I decided to reread my Riordan books to get me out of it and I’ve been thinking a lot about the Heroes of Olympus series specifically because… as much as I love that series looking back on it… there was just so much potential not just with the story but with the characters so… I’ve decided to make a small list of shit I would change just cause I feel like it.
So, first off, I don’t think I’d change much about The Lost Hero and Son of Neptune other than 3 tiny things.
1st, in The Lost Hero, Jason doesn’t fully remember Reyna like Percy does Annabeth, but he knows that there’s someone waiting for him. Also, Piper and Jason have an actual conversation in which they’re both like ‘Look, neither of us asked for this and I’m really sorry but we shouldn’t be together when our relationship never really existed.’
2nd, about Piper… SHE SHOULDN’T BE AN ‘I’M NOT LIKE OTHER GIRLS’ GIRL BECAUSE GIRLY GIRLS CAN BE JUST AS BADASS AND HAVE STORIES JUST AS GOOD AS TOMBOY AND NERDY GIRLS FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK- Sorry I am just so sick and tired of fantasy books specifically treating girly girls with little to no respect. Like… come on man.
For Piper she’d either be a girly girl from the start or she’d embrace her girly side while hanging out with the Aphrodite cabin (who deserve so much justice, I might actually do a one-shot about the Aphrodite cabin just cause I had an idea of Percy on his first week getting his nails done by Silena cause he always wanted to but couldn’t cause of Gabe/bullies idk) but yeah, Piper could go on a small journey of learning to embrace her girly side and also discovering she’s lesbian/bi, to which Drew reminds her that Aphrodite is the goddess of all kinds of love.
Son of Neptune I would only change Frank, he wouldn’t get his weird glow up, let him stay chubby and awkward!!!
Now… this is when we really deviate.
Cause… I would actually have Reyna and Nico be part of the 7 while Percy and Annabeth stay behind in New Rome (Percy stays in New Rome as Praetor and Annabeth returns to Camp Half-Blood to lead or they both stay in New Rome and Annabeth gets the idea to build something like that in Camp Half-Blood you know… BUILD SOMETHING PERMANENT).
Maybe Reyna or Nico get a vision that lets them know that they are the ones supposed to go with the 7 instead of Annabeth and Percy. (Maybe instead of Nico it’s Thalia who’s in the Jar idk) and so Reyna and Nico go with the 7 (Reyna and Jason have an emotional reunion as they should’ve but they still don’t talk about their feelings cause they’re Romans and duty comes first)
And… hear me out! 1) Piper, Hazel and Reyna would make such a powerful trio just… women! 2) Nico would have a tough time bonding with the boys (he has a strong bond with Hazel and I feel like Nico would be surprised to bond with Reyna quickly, but eventually he and Jason would become low-key besties and his banter with Leo would be very fun.) 3) ACTUAL SCENES OF THE 7 BONDING.
So Reyna would get Annabeth’s quest maybe with another villain? Point is, at the end of Mark of Athena, Reyna is the one that’s getting dragged to Tartarus, Jason tries to catch her, they’re hanging off the ledge, Jason can’t fly because the pit is trying to suck them in or smth. Reyna tells him to let her go, it’s his duty to lead the group yadda yadda yadda. Jason refuses to, tells Nico (or Thalia if she’s the one they rescue who knows?) to meet them on the other side of the Gates and we get a Jeyna Tartarus fall.
House of Hades. After years of not knowing how to approach the subject because of awkwardness/fear of abandonment/trust issues/too many praetor duties, etc… the fact that Jason was willing to fall into Tartarus with her, and the very real possibility of dying, makes Reyna and Jason finally talk about their feelings and get together and they survive Tartarus together.
In the meanwhile shit is going down in New Rome cause of stupid Octavian. Percy and Annabeth have to leave. On the Argo II everyone is having a mental breakdown so Nico or maybe Piper step up to try and lead (I would actually love it to be Piper cause she had potential as a leader so yeah).
Then another big change, Ogygia. Leo does land up on Ogygia, he does meet Calypso BUT- they don’t fall in love, however, they do grow to love each other which is what allows Leo to leave.
I don’t know exactly how it would work but I would love for platonic love to be the thing that finally saves Calypso and gets her off Ogygia. This would also play into an arc I’d give Leo all about 1) learning that he doesn’t have to be in love to be complete and growing and being okay with being alone as long as he’s not lonely and learning that platonic love can be just as strong as romantic love or 2) Leo realizing that he’s aromantic and asexual and it’s just heteronormative thinking that makes him believe he isn’t complete without a romantic partner and finally accepting himself as he is. And again, learning that platonic love can be just as strong as romantic love.
Also, more angst to Hazel’s Hecate-like powers, maybe for a moment she thinks she’s dead again or smth like that idk.
Finally, Blood of Olympus.
First off. The Athena Parthenos. That quest would go to Percy, Annabeth… AND GROVER. FUCK YEAH BITCHES. That way, we get our original trio back with an important quest and we get to see them again.
Real Jeyna Tartarus PTSD, just, angst galore.
A longer final battle with each of the 7 having a critical role in the final battle. Nico and Hazel fighting side by side, Frank and Leo, Reyna and Piper, Jason striking lightning from above. Percy doing his thing with Annabeth leading the Greek side.
And finally… I’d honestly have an actual death. One of the 7 would die, no resurrection, no nothing.
I think it’d either be Frank or Piper.
Frank because of the set up with the stick and the underrated boy finally coming into his own and sacrificing his life for the greater good.
But the better option (to me at least in my version of the story) would be Piper. We see her grow so much through the story. First coming into her own and embracing her girly side, then being forced to step up and lead when Jason and Reyna are in Tartarus and just overall becoming a hero in her own right. (Also I feel like Piper would just have a strong bond with every single one of the 7, she’s Leo’s person, low-key besties with Reyna, she’s one of Jason’s closest friends she inspires and is always there for Hazel and Frank, etc. so it’d be all the more painful, she and Nico bond over not being straight).
Also also, it would almost close the circle of the Aphrodite hero. Silena was the first hero of Aphrodite cabin, but some people still doubt her, Piper is the second hero of Aphrodite cabin that no one will ever doubt or try to discredit. They burn a pink shroud and her siblings and every single one of the seven, along with Percy and Annabeth mourn her. And all of Camp Half-Blood silently agrees to never underestimate or take the Aphrodite kids for granted again.
The series ends with Leo keeping his promise to Calypso to go back for her with help from Frank and Hazel, Annabeth asking Reyna for help to build a New Rome in Camp Half-Blood and Jason, Nico and Percy maybe confronting the gods or smth like that.
So yeah uh… those are the things I’d change that no one asked for… yay… I stayed up until like 2 am just thinking about this don’t ask me why ajajjajajaa hope you enjoyed my ramblings!

Valgrace One-shot
AN: In my ideal valgrace au, Jason and Leo’s first kiss is at their reunion after Leo returns from Ogygia, so I decided to write it! Enjoy!
The bright sunlight reflected off the ocean surface, nearly blinding Jason. He sat at the coastal restaurant with Piper, Hazel, Frank, and Nico. His elbows rested on his knees as he leaned forward anxiously.
They had been told that Leo would be here, but so far there had been no sign of the son of Hephaestus. He had been gone for 2 weeks now. Jason didn’t know what he’d do if they didn’t find him.
Jason knew none of this would be happening if he had done something different. He could have gone after Leo when he fist went missing. He could have forced answers of out the wind god Notus. He was a soldier, after all. It was his job to know how to deal with situations like this.
But there was something about it- something about Leo- that made it hard for him to act efficiently. Jason had spent weeks trying to figure out what had happened to his keen decision making ability. He had never felt like this at Camp Jupiter.
Piper nudged Jason’s shoulder from her seat next to him.
“He’ll show up. Just wait,” she said reassuringly. Jason knew there was some charmspeak slipped in there, but it hardly did anything to calm his nerves.
From across the table, Hazel and Nico shared a pastry covered in a pink syrup. Hazel looked relieved just to be off the rocking ship and on dry land. Frank was skimming through a newspaper. Very quickly, mind you, since he couldn’t read any Italian.
Jason rocked back in his chair, scanning the bay in front of him. No sign of Leo. The anxiety in him just grew. He leaned forward and rested his head on his knee, trying to relax.
Just keep it together, he told himself. That was all he could do right now.
Piper nudged his side again. When he looked up, she was pointing down at the slope below the balcony they sat on. A small figure was slowly making its way up the rocks.
“Of course Leo couldn’t just walk in the front door,” Piper remarked with a laugh.
Sure enough, the figure had the curly hair and erratic walk of Leo.
Before Jason knew what he was doing, his legs pushed him over the balcony railing. He fell for only a moment before the wind came up underneath him, guiding him down the hill. The boy below looked up in shock.
Within seconds, Jason was at his side. Leo stared at him in silence. He stared back. Neither of them had any brilliant words to say in the situation.
So Jason did what felt best. He leaned down and wrapped his arms around Leo. Leo stiffened under the boy’s touch at first, but then relaxed into it. Jason could tell just how exhausted his friend was. His arms were weak around him.
Leo suddenly pulled himself away from Jason. He stood there rather awkwardly, waiting for one of them to speak.
“I’m so glad you’re ok,” Jason said, meeting Leo’s dark brown eyes with his own. They held something that hadn’t been there before.
“You know me. Hard to please, and even harder to kill,” Leo responded, attempting a smile. Jason could see right through it. Something significant had happened to him while he was gone.
And it was Jason’s fault. If he had fought better, his friend wouldn’t be experiencing this right now.
“What do you look so sad for?” Leo asked. Jason realized he had been staring at him.
“Nothing. I just really missed you.” Jason found himself blushing after the words came out. He hadn’t said that out load before.
“Oh,” Leo murmured, looking down at the ground. “I’m sorry I made you feel bad.”
“Leo, you don’t need to apologize for anything,” Jason clarified. “It was hell on the Argo II without you. That’s what I’m trying to say.”
Leo’s eyes lit up with panic.
“I need to finish a bunch of repairs, don’t I? Sorry I left y’all to deal with my mess. Did she hold up ok?” he asked frantically, beginning to climb up the climb up the hill at twice the speed he had been going before.
“There are more important things than that,” Jason said quietly from a few feet behind Leo. Like being with you, he wanted to add.
If Leo had heard him, he didn’t act like it, because he kept moving.
There was at least 50 feet of rocks between them and the balcony. It would be a treacherous climb back up, but Jason could help with that.
He lounged forward, grabbing Leo around the waist, and propelled both of them up into the air.
Leo flailed for a moment, letting out a few unsavory words, until Jason secured his grip on him. The two boys were now pressed against each other, face to face.
“Gee, ever heard of a heads up before?” Leo asked. Jason could feel his breath on his neck as he spoke.
He didn’t respond. He didn’t move them towards the balcony either. He wanted to treasure this moment of peace, alone with Leo, before they resumed their life of dodging monsters at every turn.
Leo didn’t seem to quite understand. “The rest are that way-“
“Can I kiss you?” Jason blurted out.
He immediately regretted it when he saw the look of pure confusion on Leo’s face. Jason felt his entire face and neck flush red. Of course Leo wouldn’t want to kiss him. There were so many other people out there more interesting and more welcoming than Jason- more human. Leo deserved one of those people.
Leo made a sound too quiet for Jason to hear.
“Ok,” the son of Hephaestus repeated, just barely louder than the first time.
Jason felt his heart flutter within his chest. He eyes gazed over the boys face. Leo skin had a pink tint to it- probably a lot like Jason’s.
Leaning in slowly, Jason pressed his lips to Leo’s.
“Hell yeah! Finally!” yelled a voice from above. They broke apart to find Piper staring down at them from the balcony.
“Sorry!” she called out.
Jason felt his face go even redder, if possible.

how would you rank the seasons from least to most favourite?
alright okay right off the bat worst season season 7. for starters i think this season has no staying power i mean like since i’ve been running this blog 4 so long now my knowledge of charmed is encyclopedic and insanely vast more than like it ever need be but for the longest time. i could not remember season 7. like wtf even happened there?? evidently leo became human??? cole returned? the avatars??? like all of it was just. it’s not even necessarily forgettable it’s just i straight up could not remember it for the longest time. and i’ve said it before the concept of utopia was way to advanced for a show like charmed to tackle i am not watching charmed for moral philosophy i am watching bc i love these girls ♥ hee hee hoo hoo magic adventure ✨ tho if i am to offer a single comment on utopia: it’s awfully rich for a show to go on about destiny and fate and then take a stand against utopia in the name of free will. but w/e. i don’t like leo in the avatars i don’t like his dynamic with piper in this season i don’t like whatever phoebe’s doing this season there’s like leslie?? maybe there’s someone else? boring & flavorless they should have been setting up her endgame instead of puttering around. and kyle. zoo wee mama. could have been a great antihero. morally gray. duplicitous. self serving. but no. they gave him all those traits and called him hero/love interest. s7 left a lot to be desired out of the characters and their relationships also gave us phat L’s such as the charmed ones are werewolves don’t worry about it and feminism peaked with naked women. shout out to zankou: demon, dilf, dub & the noir episode.
you know what? fuck it i’ll say it second worse season 5 genuinely fuck season five. this is probably a Very Specific beef 2 me But. i hate what they did to the charmed universe. this was the season that marked the transition of charmed from supernatural drama to campy soap which like. i love camp! i do! but fr. fuck this season and what it did to the worldbuilding. the early season have Such A Vibe to them man with warlocks and witches and just a couple niche monsters from assorted lore that the show took and made their own. season five opens with mermaids goes directly into fairytales then gives us superheros whatever the fuck was going on in that mummy episode the sandman leprechauns and nymphs. and i hate it for that. it takes away from this urban fantasy things that go bump in the night what lurks in the shadows of the back alleys of san francisco in favor of the ugliest cinderella dress ever put to television and an onslaught of horrible irish accents for a full episode. other issues with season five: cole’s still here? why? they don’t know and neither will you! we’re not redeeming him! phoebe’s not getting back together with him! yes he died we just refuse to let him go! the cherry on top of course being a cole-centric 100th episode. shout out to. hmm. lemme think about what i actually liked about this season. i like jason dean as a love interest i don’t remember what he did in s5 but i know he was there. the season finale i’ve talked about how stupid & shitty it was but idc i still love that episode and then shout out to bacarra the only original villain this season that was a proper serve. the crone gets second place.
next on this come on we all saw it coming season 8. it’s a bad season! and i get bts there was a whole lot happening budget cuts missing actor etc. but it goes beyond that. it was a bad season. billie and christie were bad. and i’ve said this before but billie in herself is not an inherently bad character. she was just the literal worst for the show. she was a dollar store buffy blonde confident cocky skilled and ready 2 fight evil But. we are not following her like we followed buffy we are following her mentors. it’s like if we had a show called giles that aired for seven seasons And Then buffy showed up. billie was insanely irritating to watch from our perspective and in general wasn’t like. well written. attempts to humanize her / give her more depth often fell flat. and then christy. oh nelly. oh my god. barely a character. not well acted but hey it would have been a miracle if she was. negatives include dumain who was a mess omg bringing back the triad bringing back the source billie & christy obvi and also involving homeland security. which is season 7′s fault which is why it’s the worst. dubs on the other hand include both coop and henry i really liked them the shoehorned love interests weren’t great but i like their characters i though the way the got rid of leo to save on the budget was really creative and gave us a great piper episode and of course the sugary sweet finale i love it i do what can i say.
yet another controversial choice aptly coming in fourth is season 4. i respect what season 4 set out to do. i think it was a good idea. long form narratives, keeping a darker tone, focusing on character-driven drama and growth. too bad it fucking failed miserably at all of this. cole as the source and phoebe as the queen of hell was just so so botched. they had a very unique opportunity following the death of prue to explore these characters and what it means to them to be charmed, to be witches. they saved the world but the cost is insanely high. they’ve lost an older sister. they’ve gained a new sister. how do you even begin to cope with all this? episodes such as hell hath no fury and brain drain fuck so hard because they work with exactly that. had the whole season been like those episode season four would sit at number one with flying colors absolutely no competition. but alas. we can’t have nice things. the show got so bogged down with phoebe & cole, in a way that was just so, so messy. for starters, whether you loved cole or hated him before, we can all agree source!cole sucked. he was such a strong 180 from what we had seen that the show had to make the source some type of possession to justify half the shit they were trying to pull. and then to pit phoebe and paige against one another over a man was just. disgusting. and the ending of course felt rushed because it was! they wrapped up that entire issue in a nice little bow much faster than they reasonably should have been able to. it could have been a great season. it was definitely not. shout out to the seer an iconic mastermind on barbas levels, as previously stated brain drain and hell hath no fury Specific shout out to piper’s scene at prue’s grave shout out to paige as a character i like what they did with her and um. yeah that’s it.
okay we’re exiting the shit tier in favorite of the good tier welcome to the upper half. kicking us off is season 6. season 6 did what season 4 could not in that it gave us a long form plot that still left plenty of room for like. normal demon of the week episodes. i love phoebe early in this season with her faboo haircut her brand new empathy power and her relationship with jason dean. obvious strikes against for whatever the fuck that baby crazy stint was and also the mata hari episode. yikes. i love paige’s hair color in this season nothing paige as a character necessarily stands out to me however i like how they seem to have hit the blend of work-magic with paige where she wants a life and career outside of magic however she still loves the craft and embraces is with an open heart and mind. season six also gives us chris who was a very fun male lead imo we really didn’t have many like him he’s bitchy. he whines and bitches a lot he’s got an agenda he’s a bit secretive but at the end of the day he just wants a family i like him. i like the character growth we see out of piper i like seeing her try to move on from leo i love seeing her get back together with leo i like her dynamic with chris and her fears about motherhood. i also liked richard but that one takes a lot of justification. L’s are witchstock hyde school reunion used karma off the top of my head also the paige/richard/addiction plotline was so tone deaf. also the girls were mean to darryl : ( he deserved so much better. dubs were chris as a character, tbh the episode little monsters, phoebe with empathy specifically saying i love you too to jason i could write a dissertation on that line alone also the courtship of wyatt’s father and i thought the reveals of evil wyatt and chris being piper and leo’s son were both fun and interesting plot twists.
coming in third is actually season 2 a season i really do love it’s just. it lacks structure. imo there is a lot to love about season 2 morality bites and pardon my past are both delightful time travel episodes we get jack sheridan and bane jessup two of my personal favorite prue love interests we get p3 h2o and a great prue plotline regarding the death of patty we get the super cute cupid episode it’s a great. collection of episodes. it’s not a great season. there’s just imo not a strong enough thread connecting the stories together it’s mainly held together by having the same characters in it over and over again i really liked dan personally but like. i knew we were wasting time there. he was just an obstacle. a super cute loving and caring obstacle who’s great with kids but lbr piper and leo were always endgame. wasting our time on dan was stupid. i do love the sister dynamics in season two “gotta hand it to those pesky little demons they sure have brought us closer together” but again. this season could have benefitted from a rex and hannah type or even like a cole or zankou. this season is less of a season and more of just like a handful of episodes, and while there are some fat dubs, there are also some definite swings & misses. shout out to the time travel episodes the prue centric episodes phoebe’s character growth and maturity throughout this season (e.g. her going back to college) and i also think the fashion got a lot more fun this season.
second place i’m saying season one season one was a really strong start and gave us these really compelling characters with interesting relationships between one another But. a lot of it just kinda falls flat. and credit where credit is due it was a brand new show getting its feet under it but the fourth sister feats of clay which prue is it anyway they just simply aren’t dubs imo. also i don’t like that 70′s episode bc again i am an asshole concerned about The Lore i can’t believe one bitch ass warlock caused the Charmed Ones to grow up without powers. it just really bugs me. all in all the plots as a whole like aren’t great imo they’re nothing to write home about (save for from fear to eternity) it’s really the characters that make this season so goddamn good.
first place congratulations to the one the only season three. this is just because it kinda hits all my requirements in that it has some banger one offs (e.g. all halliwell’s eve, the good, the bad, and the cursed) it has an overarching plot at the exact same time as the source becomes more prominent and obvi cole is also there with murderous intent i like the character growth we see especially from prue i like piper and leo finally get married overall i really like the aesthetic of this season that blends a darker urban fantasy tone with still some charmed fashion and whimsy. strikes against tbh phoebe and cole’s relationship i am insanely picky with my enemies to lovers and the do not come remotely close to cutting the mustard in fact they are almost immediately disqualified however from afar i can see and respect The Drama. shout out to recasting victor prue with pistols death as a character and shannen directing episodes

Time for the mother of all half baked, incongruent posts:
I really like the way Pipers arch was synecdoche for compulsive heterosexuality as a phenomenon. For all the shit RR did to wlw (and I haven’t forgotten it), her arc in toa really works.
But
1) wish he did the same for Leo. Whether Leo was ace, aro, bi, or gay, wish he got a similar arc because I think his character was perfectly primed for it. Like Reyna was primed for a lesbian comp her story line and Leo was primed for the ace aro story line or gay story line. I still just really hate that Leo’s arc ended with him getting a gf who was literally cursed to love him. Still mad about that. He deserved better.
2) while it makes sense to me that piper ans Jason wouldn’t last, what happened to the friendship of the Lost Hero Trilogy??? Fake friends or not, they BECAME friends. Why didn’t Leo try to get to Piper and Jason when he came back? Why didn’t we get those reunions sooner or at all? They are best friends! There’s a lot of value in having Jason and Pipers relationship not working out in the way it did (the comp het thing) but we lost the trail of their friendship in toa and for no reason! That didn’t have to happen! And I’m mad that it did. Leo and Jason and Piper and best friends. And I get Piper and Jason needing time apart but they just forgot about Leo? He just forgot about them? What the hell? Why did these characters peak in The Lost Hero? They were so good together in the lost hero and then just ... nothing

Mark of Athena Re-read
Hey guys! If you’ve been keeping up with my last couple of posts, you’ll know I’ve been re-reading the Heroes of Olympus (HoO) series by Rick Riordan, starting with the Son of Neptune. If you want to my thoughts on it (spoilers included) and my background with the series, click here. I made a little bit of rant post about my feelings about the HoO series overall so far and you can find that here! This post will be about the Mark of Athena (MoA) and as always, spoilers abound.
Soooo y’all...I think this book is worse than the Lost Hero. I feel so bad for saying that bc I hated tLH (Like I’d give that book 2 stars) but god, this was so bad. No wonder I forgot what happened when I originally read it. Before I get into it, I will say I’m usually not negative in my ‘reviews’-I’ll give credit where it’s due (I did that in tSoN with Hazel and Frank who weren’t really my fav characters to start with) but this book has very little redeemable aspects imo. So I’ll start with the thing I was most irritated about: Piper.
Piper...Piper...Piper. Gods, none of her chapters ever passed the Bechdel test. I DESPISE her and I hated every single one of her chapters. With characters like Frank, I admitted that sometimes his chapters were a bit boring but I never hated the guy’s narration. Piper, however, is an insecure hypocrite. Let me show you.
So at one point, Annabeth, Piper, and Hazel meet up with Aphrodite. The POV is Annabeth’s and while Aphrodite is talking to them, it seems like Piper is just embarrassed to have her around.
“Mother!” Piper said. “You’re embarrassing me.” “Well, I don’t see why,” the goddess said. “Just because you don’t appreciate my fashion tips, Piper, doesn’t mean the others won’t. I could do a quick makeover for Annabeth and Hazel, perhaps silk ball gowns like mine—” “Mother!”
And a few lines later she says again “ ‘Mother, Piper said, “is there a reason you’re here?’” (30).
Okay so someone tell me why this girl says 10 pages later “But also, Piper was secretly hurt not to have her mother to herself. Aphrodite had barely looked at her. She hadn’t said a word about Jason. She hadn’t bothered explaining her conversation with Reyna at all. It was almost as if Aphrodite no longer found Piper interesting. Piper had gotten her guy. Now it was up to her to make things work, and Aphrodite had moved on to newer gossip as easily as she might toss out an old copy of a tabloid magazine” (40). LIKE GIRL MAKE UP YOUR MIND. Do you want your mom’s attention or not? But I’m highkey interested in what Aphrodite said to Reyna tho.
Let’s talk about Reyna for a second. First off, I feel so bad for her?? Percy turned her down-fine, he has a gf. Then I thought Jason had feelings for her but he says this in MoA, page 19: “It’s just…I never felt that way toward Reyna,” Jason said, “so I didn’t think about its making you uncomfortable. You’ve got nothing to worry about, Pipes”. Like damn can Reyna get any love?? I get that he doesn’t like her anymore since he met Piper but to have never liked her? That’s rough. And notice how this quote is from page 19, but again on p. 40, Piper is still so insecure in their relationship. I don’t she’s listened to a word he said at all. Then towards the end of the book, she says oh I love you but she literally didn’t know the man’s age prior to that. Like what?? Did they even kiss this book? I think like once lmao. Also speaking of the birthday thing, Piper says this while she waits for Jason to blow out his birthday candles.
“Well?” she urged. “Blow out the candles.”
Jason did. Piper wondered if he’d made a wish—hopefully that he and Piper would survive this quest and stay together forever. She decided not to ask him. She didn’t want to jinx that wish, and she definitely didn’t want to find out that he’d wished for something different.
Me @ Jason: This your girl? Come get her. Because Imma hurt her feelings. What do you mean you want him to wish to stay together forever? He should wish for Gaea to you know die so everyone can be safe. If I ever met Piper in person, I’d fight her. ON SIGHT.
In a related note, I’ve got nothing to say about Jason. He was fine. He passed out alot during this book, didn’t do much for how hyped his powers are supposed to be. I will say when he and Percy were possessed and they fought each other, Percy totally won that fight. He knocked Jason the hell out and was about to end his whole career until Piper got Blackjack to knock him out. But overall, I think Jason’s rather bland and him and Piper have NO chemistry. But I don’t think he deserves insecure Piper as a girlfriend. She’s a whole ass child of Aphrodite and she’s worried about her relationship...let me move on.
My main issue with the book lies in the structure and plot. The previous two books had 3 narrators and each set of trio had a specific prophecy assigned to them-i.e: Percy, Hazel and Frank had to free death, retrieve the eagle. The prophecies are a catalyst to get them to go on the quest. And then obviously, we have the overarching prophecy of the seven that will come to fruition in small chunks until the last book of the series. That’s fine. So the issue with MoA is that now Rick is handling seven characters + Coach Hedge (like why was he necessary??). He has 4 POVs which threw me the hell off bc we had 3 in the previous two books and honestly, I think we could’ve gone without one of them (Percy’s actually). As a writer, it’s hard to balance multiple characters in the same setting constantly. If they have a conversation, one or two of them will have less lines because other characters have already said them. Therefore to give everyone adequate ‘screen time’, Rick had to separate them by keeping groups of three or two on their own side quest. As a result, however, reading the book felt like I was being brake checked constantly. Ex-We follow Percy, Frank, and Hedge to an Aquarium then we follow Annabeth, Hazel, and Piper to meet Aphrodite, then they encounter the Romans, then Piper and Jason meet Hercules and get the horn and so on. Like they’re constantly shifting and doing stuff but not going as a group so it feels like I’m constantly trying to catch up. There’s too many pit stops for my liking. And I deadass have no idea what most of it had to with the MoA prophecy.
This disjointed-ness is what makes me rate it lower than tLH. Because while I didn’t like Piper or Jason in that book, it was still cohesive. There was a plot and it was followed. Another reason I might feel this way toward MoA is because Rick has a formula and it’s starting to be predictable. Think about the original Greek myths-there’s one main demigod like Hercules, there’s a quest, there’s godly interference so it makes sense the the PJO/HoO characters have the same thing. But all this talking to gods (esp gods we’ve already met like Aphrodite) is taking up so much space and slowing the plot. It also didn’t help that the minor villians in this book are all unlikeable?? All they did was talk. Otis and Ephialtes. Porchy and Keto. Arachane. All they did was talk. Here’s how to defeat a PJO/HoO villain: con them to help you/let you go or fight them. That’s it.
This book is where I started to really regret reading the series. Like I was just over it. The plot was somehow slow and all over the place at the same time. The last couple of chapters were good because I was like finally, something relevant to the prophecy is happening.
Let me leave you guys with some positives about this book though:
1. Annabeth’s POV. What a gal. When she faces Arachane, Annabeth mentions that she doesn’t have an active power like the other Seven but she has her intelligence. And I’m like yes girl, you are brave and everything I want to be. I would read the PJO series from her POV over this series.
2. Percabeth. They kept promising to come back to each other and my heart melted. Percy was so worried about letting her go follow the Mark but he knew it’s what she had to do and he let her go. And ugh, them falling got me all over again. And like just their chemistry is off the charts. Piper and Jason could never.
3.  Percy’s comments about Luke. Percy realizes that he’s around Luke’s age when Luke went all ‘Gods are bad, their children are pawns’ and like I get chills from reading that passage because you can tell Percy’s tired. He can’t have a life because of these quests, he’s constantly moments away from dying. He never really got a chance to be a teenager. And I get he wants to help people and keep the world from being taken over by bad guys but he’s also human. He’s seen demigods die...he’s traumatized. Like Percy, I really understand Luke better now (right idea, wrong execution) and l see how tired Percy is.
4. The Leo/Hazel/Frank disaster of a love triangle. Like I’ve mentioned before, I want Hazel, a THIRTEEN YEAR OLD child, to be left the hell alone when it comes to romance. But because Uncle Rick insists on pairing up everyone, I have to oblige. So here I am. The amount of times I cackled at Frank and Leo’s digs at each other is astronomical. Like shots were fired, no one held back. I was like is this even MG/lower end of YA anymore with all this salt?? Over the years I’ve been spoiled about the series so I know that Leo somehow ends up with Calypso so I know nothing will come out of the love triangle (and it seems to be wrapping up bc Leo and Frank complimented each other’s abilities toward the end there) but passive aggressive-ness was peak.
5. Every single conversation between Reyna and Annabeth. Like two powerhouses talking about wanting to save their camps and the world. I loved it. Hands down. I hope they can be friends when this is all over.
6. And lastly, the reunion of Percabeth. The Judo flip. The fact that Percy talked about having a future with her.
Thanks for reading if you made it down here and I’ll see you guys in a couple of days with my House of Hades update. This book and the one after it I’m reading for the first time ever so I’m going in semi blind (like I said, I know some spoilers). I’m currently on chapter 2 or 3 of that and ermm, it was a weak intro but I’ll keep going :) rooting for Percabeth to make it through.

Jercy Headcanon #08
It was pure coincidence that Percy arrived in Camp Jupiter to see a disguised Jason. The older teen was back to restock and to re-calibrate their strategy against the supposedly dead emperors. Despite the other’s cover, the son of Poseidon can recognize him anywhere.
But Jason is dead. It can’t be him.
And yet, the kid’s aura and power reminds him very much of the son of Jupiter.
With a shaky hand, Percy grabbed the brunet’s shoulder. Said guy’s grey eyes widened, pausing his conversation with Reyna.
Bellona’s daughter stared at Percy like he’s mad. She was about to reprimand him, Percy saw her moved. But his entire focus is on the man in front of him. Who smiled gently, a soft golden glow erasing the false colors. His blond hair and bright blue eyes that never fails to awe the older taking its rightful place.
“Hey Percy”
The older teen couldn’t helped himself and hugged the other buy tightly. Hands roaming Jason’s face when they slightly parted, as if grounding himself in reality. That Jason is really here.
Jason’s face held a sad smile that Percy often seen in his dreams. Where they argue whether he could offer the world in exchange for Jason.
“W-What- How- “
With a crooked grin the other stepped away from the embrace.
“Doors of death. Things stirring in the underworld again. You know, usual stuff.”
Their moment was rudely ruined by a fuming Reyna who slapped Jason’s arm with such force that the other yelped in pain.
The current praetor yelled at the other for the son of Jupiter’s ‘stupid exploits’ and ‘hero-complex’. All the while crying and trying not to hug or punch the other at the same time.
Percy watched all this in the sidelines, thinking of a way to convince Jason to stay back in the mortal world.
As if hearing his thoughts, Jason glanced at him and shook his head sadly.
He watched his cousin look away after that response. Knowing he had the look of grief and brokenness etched upon his face. Like he always has whenever they have this topic in his dream.
“It’s only for a while.”
It’s what Jason said after they asked him how long the entire going back to life thing is going to last.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Days passed and reunions happened. Thalia slapped and hugged her brother and gave him a 3-hour lecture about stupid stunts and heroic bullshits. Reyna joining her during the 2nd hour. Annabeth joining during the third. Jason and Leo finally met and cried like ugly babies. Nico punched the other with all his might. The rest of the seven all hugged and spent time with the blond. Apollo came with Meg, and the former god apologize profusely. For not being able to protect him properly and for being a horrible older brother.
Jason smiled through everything and accepted it all.
Percy was iffy with Piper’s presence at the start but one glare from Jason made him behave. He still hasn’t forgiven the other for breaking his cousin’s heart but he’ll try to get over the hate.
“Hate doesn’t suit you so stop it.”
Was what his cousin told him so he’d give it a try.
They talked again a few days later, when they both opted to relax by the Tiber river.
“Don’t you wanna live again?”
The blond was silent before facing him.
“Of course I do.”
“Then why won’t you let me?”
Smiling sadly (Jason’s been doing that a lot lately and each time it hurts Percy more than the last), he replied, “I technically don’t have a home to go back to.”
Perking up Percy was eager to reply.
“You can come home to us! To our apartment in Manhattan. And don’t you say it’s for family because you ARE my family. You can come to me.”
He added the last part when he saw the younger opened his mouth to protest.
The son of Poseidon can practically hear the gears working on his cousin’s mind. And knowing him, Percy already knows what he has to say.
“I’ll have to bear with your hideous snoring though”
“HEY!”
They both laughed together with no care in the world.
“So what do you say?”
And again, Jason would shake his head sadly.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
And then the day of Jason’s second departing came. They all knew because the children of Hades felt cogs of the underworld shifting. They felt the doors being back to its rightful place and souls coming back to where they came from.
That and Jason started glowing that soft golden light that probably signals for something important, judging their previous experience.
After glowing, Jason stood wearing a white long-sleeve tunic with brown laces in the chest area, and white pants.
The blond searched for Percy’s sea-green ones, a silent message that it’s time to go.
The demigods of both camps gathered at the center of Camp Jupiter, ready to bid their last farewell.
Percy made a brief prayer to Hecate and in a snap of a finger, he was wearing his orange camp shirt and armor, completed by a praetor’s purple cape.
He can see the puzzled expression of the blond but he offered no explanation.
Instead, he walked towards him, the whole of the demigods making path for him. He stood right in front of Jason, head held high.
He can feel the stares of their friends, watching his every move.
Percy with every bit of confidence in his being, knelt right in front of Jason, like he’s a god to be worshiped, and looked directly to widened twin blue skies.
“Pontifex maximus Grace, I, Perseus Jackson, former praetor of the 12th Legion, am here to express my eternal gratitude for your sacrifice and dedication for Rome, your friends and family. It is my greatest honor that I get to fight beside you in order to save the world and the people we held dear.”
Percy’s voice was clear and strong. Everyone heard and felt the emotion that he was conveying. Jason’s very eyes are watery but he held his ground. He cannot, doesn’t want, to ruin the other’s spiel.
“It is my deepest regret, that you die earlier than you should. You’re supposed to be just experiencing life. Free of responsibilities and free of war. In this I hope you forgive me, that I cannot have done more to extend your life.”
Percy knows his hands are shaking. But he kept his left fist on the ground, the other resting on his elevated knee. It’s the first time he was determined to be proper and formal. Jason deserves this much.
“I would like you to know, that I am grateful for you trust, for laughing at our enemy’s face knowing that despite your absence, your trusted friends are here to avenge not just you but the beaten, the tortured, and the misguided. I hereby promise, in the river Styx, that I will not rest until I have Caligula’s head as my trophy.”
It was eerily quiet. Every single demigod and former god waiting for the Jason’s response.
Finally, in one swift movement, Jason wiped his tears and mirrored his cousin’s form.
“Former praetor Jackson, I, Pontifex maximus Jason Grace, am more than grateful for the family you had given me. For the lessons you had taught me. And for the love that you shared with me. It is my honor to fight alongside you, and to lay my life knowing that you would be here to fight our battles. My only regret, is that you aren’t able to rest after fighting one war too many. I hope for your happiness, for our friends’ and families’ happiness. It is a gift to have lived in the same generation as you.”
Percy saw tears from almost everyone. Even the tough-shells Reyna and Nico.
Smiling, he offered his hand to Jason and stood up with him. He watched the son of Jupiter take a few steps back before resuming his final agenda.
Without facing the crowd, eyes locked onto blue ones, he boomed, “12th Legion Fulminata! Column formante!”
All of New Rome stood in formation, Jason watching everyone with awe as the crowd followed the Greek’s order.
“Ave Pontifex maximus Grace!”
“Ave! Ave! Ave!”
They repeated the cheer thrice, banging their weapons and shields together. Even the greek demigods are joining the cheer.
And with the spur of everything Percy watched his cousin brighten and start a cheer.
“Ave Praetor Perseus Jackson!”
“Ave! Ave! Ave!”
They all clapped and hugged and cheered. Greeks and Romans celebrating the unity of their people.
Percy stepped towards Jason and grabbed his cheeks.
“You’re a child of Rome and of Greece. Never forget that.”
Through tear-streaked face Jason nodded, grateful for his family, for his friends. But most of all, he’s eternally grateful for Perseus Jackson.
Percy felt Jason disappear. The other forming into a scatter of bright golden lights floating towards the heavens. He watched him go, sea-green eyes never leaving the golden specks of light, knowing Jason would be back. He’s a got a strong feeling that he would be back.
Caligula better watch out because whether Jason is gone or not, he’s gonna fight alongside Percy. Like they did before.

Thoughts on The Burning Maze
Ok can I just go on a rant here? I am not pleased with The Burning Maze at all.
(Contains spoilers)
Even though there are other things I don’t like, the three that bother me most are
. The jasiper breakup
. Jason dyiNG
. NO LOST TRIO REUNION
because I freaking idolize Jason and Piper, and they DESERVED that reunion ugh. Rick really has to answer for these things.
Number 1
The breakup
I dont think they deserved this at all. I understand they were forced to be together and all, so yes they were most fragile. But that just left room for development between these two, that’s why them breaking up just seemed rushed instead of making actual sense to me. I mean, Percabeth got development in PJO, and clearly so did Frazel in SoN. Jason and Piper were just pushed together. Even if Rick wanted to write a breakup, why not write that they were taking a break? It would’ve been understandable, especially since we saw that Jason clearly did still love her, still called her “Pipes” and so on. The breakup to me was immature.
Number 2
Jason’s death
This, certainly hurt a lot. (Fun fact: I literally got so depressed after reading this) Jason is my absolute favourite honestly. Of course, rick killing one of the Seven would give the books a certain twist, but honestly, did it have to be Jason ? Personally I dont think Rick did this without some ulterior motive to bring him back this is all the hope I have left right now. Hazel was brought from the dead to fight, Leo got the physician’s cure and we all know about Percabeth’s Tartarus vacation. And despite how much I love Piper, even her death wouldn’t have been as shocking as his. It really showed how much Jason would give for her and oh my god I’m crying now I really think that Rick will do something to help get him back.
Number 3
The Lost Trio reunion
Ugh. Where do I begin? These three were the Percy, Annabeth and Grover of HoO. They became endgame. After BoO that’s all we could’ve wished for, especially since Leo came back in the hidden oracle. That’s exactly what I wanted when I heard Jason and Piper were in TBM. But, sadly the author had other plans. And the fact that Piper had to see Leo on those circumstances, and even Jason caused electrical damage after hearing he was alive. Even Leo couldn’t stop talking about those two when he got back. So yes my heart was broken after all this emotion
But I was happy for one thing, piper’s development. You really saw how hurt she was losing her closest friend. And when she killed Medea I really saw what she was capable of, that’s why I love her. I knew she was amazing since TLH.
Anyways that’s my take on all of this. As much as I love reading these books, this was the worst experience I’ve had reading one of these books.
That really hurt, Rick

Ok for the unpopular opinions thing...I seriously do not trust the p3rcabeth relationship because if Luke for some reason came back to like anna would dump percy in a heartbeat. Also, even tho calypso is waaaay older than him, I would still like to see what Percy and her's reunion would be like, since Percy felt so bittersweet when leaving her island
*blinks*
There’s like… three opinions in this. So lemme split them up to answer? xD
“I seriously do not trust the p3rcabeth relationship“
strongly agree | agree | neutral | disagree | strongly disagree
Yeeep. Totally. She’s physically and verbally abusive. It’s a shitty relationship. I hate it with every viber of my being.
You do not call a boy who has been called dumb and stupid and slow all of his life because people can’t seem to grasp the concept of learning disabilities a “seaweed brain” and other names that purposefully insult his intelligence. When, in Heroes of Olympus, Jason compliments Percy for being clever and not being “as dumb as he looks”, Percy replies he “gets that a lot”. Because he gets insulted all the time by his girlfriend. And don’t start shit about it being an “endearing pet-name”. Being belittled for your intelligence is not in the least bit endearing, it’s a way to keep your partner in check. It’s what abusers do to establish their dominance and that their partner is beneath them. Look at Percy’s counter to the nickname: Wisegirl. He literally compliments her.
She’s physically abusive.
In Titan’s Curse, she punches him in the stomach just because he doesn’t immediately ask her to dance at the school ball. Instead of being, I don’t know, pro-active and asking him to dance, she decides to physically assault and punish him for not reading her mind and doing her bidding. A light punch on the arm can be seen as a friendly cuff, but you do not punch someone in the stomach in a friendly way.
She fucking judo-flips him when they’re reunited in Mark of Athena, physically attacking him in a way that sets all the Romans off because they see their leader attacked - but no, it’s “cute couple stuff” to physically assault your boyfriend and punish him for having been abducted by a higher deity, instead of hugging or kissing him or making sure he is alright after the last six months he had been without memories and living on the streets. No, instead of making sure he is mentally and physically alright, she decides to physically harm him.
This relationship is not healthy and if the behavior would be flipped far more people would actually see that.
A boy punching a girl in the stomach for not dancing with him? We give guys shit these days if they as much as push further after she expresses no desire to dance with them.
A boy judo-flipping his girlfriend after she’s been rescued from an abduction? Waht the fuck kind of asshole would do such a thing?
A boy constantly insulting and belittling his girlfriend, instead of reassuring her that she is not stupid? Damn, get outta there, girl, you deserve better!
But because it’s a girl doing that, it’s somehow seen as “cute” and somehow being accepted. But it’s not. It’s abusive and I am not okay with that.
So. Yeah. I think this is the first time I ever listed the actual reasons for why I hate Percy and Annabeth as a ship. It has literally nothing to do with me shipping Percy with someone else more, it has everything to do with Riordan’s twisted way of making it look cute and okay that a girl abuses her boyfriend.
“if Luke for some reason came back to like anna would dump percy in a heartbeat“
strongly agree | agree | neutral | disagree | strongly disagree
This part of your statement, I have to disagree with. In spring 2008, Luke came to Annabeth and asked her to run away with him. Not to join him, but to run away. Yes, Annabeth had the chance to avoid this whole fucking war by simply preventing Luke from ever becoming Kronos by going with her oldest friend and helping him through shit. She would have had to literally just send an IM to the campers and tell them she was taking care of this. It’s not like she has any kinds of responsibilities. She could have valued Luke enough to help him. She could have done the ATHENA THING and thought this through and decided that she would literally cut off the head of the snake if she were able to remove Luke from the war. But, as so often, the supposedly wise girl does not think things through and apparently doesn’t care enough about Luke to help him. So. I find it impossible to believe she’d leave Percy to be with Luke now if that was what she didn’t do when she was literally offered that very thing.
“Also, even tho calypso is waaaay older than him, I would still like to see what Percy and her’s reunion would be like, since Percy felt so bittersweet when leaving her island“
strongly agree | agree | neutral | disagree | strongly disagree
Honestly, in my humble opinion, The Blood of Olympus could have been about fifty pages longer. Including the fucking reuinion of PERCY AND SALLY, as well as Leo returning HOME to camp instead of leaving his friends to think he’s dead and thus also the reunion of Percy and Calypso. But, I dunno, maybe Riordan was late for the deadline or something, he just rushed some kind of ending there and that was it. *heaves sigh*

I’m just curious but why is season 6 your least favorite? My favorite is season 6. I’m so interested in knowing how people view content so differently so I would really like to know! :) I hope your having a good day/night!
Hey! First of all, thank you for being so lovely and respectful to ask for my opinion. I’m exactly the same as you and love to find out how/why people view things so differently to me, it’s all part of the fun!
There isn’t one specific reason season 6 is my least favourite, it’s a combination of factors really, so please bear with me, because this will be long and probably messy because I suck at structuring my thoughts cohesively in posts like this.
I think the biggest reason season 6 is my least favourite is that it’s so sloppy. Continuity was never the show’s strong point but season 6 felt like it was lacking in direction. When I was making the gifset of the season for the 30 day challenge I struggled to choose gifs because I couldn’t find specific ones that best displayed the overall story and main plots for that season. The main story-line that carried throughout season 6 was Chris’ and that’s another reason why the season is my least favourite.
I know that a large part of why season 6 is so popular is because fans love Chris’ character, but I think his entire story-line was handled terribly. It had a lot of potential, but it was so obvious that the writers didn’t really know what to do with him and didn’t have an actual plan, they were just making it up as they went along. That’s where the continuity issues come into play. There were so many plot holes in this story-line and so much ambiguity about the dark future that Chris came from. If Piper died when Chris was 13 (or 14, I can’t remember exactly) and Leo was never around who took care of him? If Wyatt was evil and living in the manor where did the rest of the family live? How the hell is it that the sisters didn’t find a way to save Wyatt? I just don’t believe that in any version of any reality the sisters wouldn’t find a way to save him. Every obstacle the sisters ever came up against they defeated and there’s no way they would have ever given up on Wyatt. We saw how much they worked their asses off to keep him safe in seasons 5-8, so it made no sense. Chris’ actions and behaviour also made very little sense and came across as bad/evil. Why did he send Leo to Valhalla? Just look at the damage doing that caused, it teared his family apart, broke his mother’s heart, left little Wyatt without a father and put the entire family in jeopardy. Why did he use Gith to create alternate realities that put all of the sister’s lives in danger once again? There was nothing to gain from doing that and even if he didn’t intend for them to die and tried to save them, his intentions are illogical and hardly pure. Everything about the way Chris handled things was flawed. If he was coming back from the future to stop Wyatt turning evil as he claimed why not come right out and tell the sisters and Leo that? He clearly wasn’t capable of taking on such a huge task by himself and he needed their help. It’s not like them having knowledge of the future was harmful, because they found out in the end anyway, so there was really no reason for Chris to withhold the truth in the first place. Generally, the story-line just wasn’t very well thought out.
Because it wasn’t well thought out, I also ended up disliking the way Chris was treated by the family and the relationships that he developed with them. The family treated him like absolute shit until they learned who he really was and suddenly they loved him unconditionally. Why did he have to be their blood before they started treating him with love and respect? The show tried to force Chris to be a part of the family and show us that he finally found a place he belonged, but I never believed it. It felt rushed and un-organic, and all of those issues Chris had due to the life he’d lived were never really resolved. He was so damaged due to Leo’s abandonment, Piper’s death, living in Wyatt’s shadow, growing up in a life consumed with evil that he wouldn’t just magically be okay the way he was. It was lazy to write him that way. Also, the ending to this story-line was incredibly unsatisfying and rushed. After everything Chris went through he died. Just like that? What the hell was the point of that? Essentially, the season was coming to an end and the writers had no further use for him so knew they had to get rid of him, but that was a very harsh ending. Not only did he die, he literally faded into nothing. Where did he go? If they saved Wyatt from evil that means the future changed and technically that version of Chris never existed, so he quite literally just stopped existing. That’s too sad.
Moving away from Chris and his story-line, I also disliked the sisters individual character arcs. Paige spent the entirety of season 5 trying to discover herself, but season 6 started out the exact same way with her temp jobs. Why give her the exact same arc she had in season 5? I did like that she got more in touch with her whitelighter side in season 6, but once again, she’d already started to do that in season 5 in Sam, I Am. Her relationship with Richard was pointless and did nothing for her character. From the very start that relationship felt volatile and unhealthy. Richard had too many problems and instead of trying to heal himself, he projected it all onto Paige by trying to make their relationship perfect to act as a band aid for how broken he was. Phoebe’s arc in the first half of season 6 felt exactly the same as season 5. It was about her career and relationship with Jason. Hyde School Reunion was probably the best Phoebe episode in terms of showing us how far she’d come, but Phoebe didn’t get the attention and time she deserved in season 6 at all. I also disliked what they did to her in the second half of the season by taking away her powers and making her obsessed with having children. I have no idea where that sudden obsession came from and it didn’t seem to fit with Phoebe’s character at all. Piper’s arc was what you’d expect of any female character that is a mother and was very wrapped up in Wyatt and Chris, which I can’t criticise. However, I don’t like what happened to her relationship with Leo. I was furious that she didn’t tell Leo she was pregnant with Chris and I generally didn’t like the complete lack of communication between them in season 6. Even if they weren’t together, they were parents and I feel like Piper and Leo were both the kind of people that would prioritise that above everything. Remaining on this subject, Leo was completely OOC in this season. Are we really supposed to believe he would be an absentee father that didn’t bother with his kids? I don’t think so. Yes, he was an honourable person that was duty bound and that’s why he left to be an Elder, but when push came to shove Leo was the kind of man that would give up everything in a heartbeat for his family, which The Seven Year Witch proved. I do like what they did with Leo in regards to making his character darker, and in fact, I think that was the best character arc of season 6. Leo was always such a level-headed character, but after what he went through in season 6 it made sense for him to go to the dark side, especially since it was connected to his children. Leo was a fierce father first and foremost and that consumed him in season 6.
Some other things that make me dislike the season - the introduction of Magic School (again, a good idea in theory, but it just didn’t fit and appeared out of no where), the treatment of Darryl (I still can’t watch Crimes and Witch Demeanors, it upsets me too much) and the lack of sisterly moments (the sisters are at the heart of the show for me and this is the first season I felt that was sidelined and forgotten). I don’t know what it is, but I just don’t like the entire vibe of season 6. It doesn’t feel like Charmed to me. There was a lack of togetherness and the sisters didn’t feel like themselves. I am also guilty of making comparisons between season 6 and the previous season. I love season 5 and what was built in that season - Piper and Leo’s relationship was strong and happy and they went through a beautiful process of becoming parents after wanting it for so long; Phoebe finally moved on from Cole, launched her career and matured in a new way; Paige found her place within the family, honed her craft and rediscovered herself. The family were a strong, cohesive unit that were loving and supportive, and all of them had their own journey’s in that season. When I compare this to season 6, season 6 didn’t manage to achieve any of that and actually derailed the development and progress that had been made in season 5.
Lastly, season 6 is my least favourite season simply because it has the episodes I enjoy the least. Every season of Charmed has it’s brilliant episodes and it’s not so good episodes but season 6 has the highest number of episodes that make me go “meh.” The only episodes I actually like watching from season 6 are: Valhalley of the Dolls, Little Monsters, Spin City and It’s a Bad, Bad, Bad World.
So yeah, that’s why season 6 is my least favourite season of Charmed. Thanks for stopping by to ask my opinion and I hope I didn’t bore you too much haha. I’d be interested to know why it’s your favourite season. Perhaps you can help me to find more positives in this season and see something in it that I may have overlooked :)

Jason’s Iris-messaging Reyna and Frank when Annabeth runs over.
After she’d explained what Mr. D had told her in the Big House, Piper and Leo had gone off to pack. Annabeth had grabbed Jason’s arm to stop him from following.
Grover glanced at them, chewing his lip. “Annabeth, what should I do?”
Jason shifted uncomfortably seeing the look Annabeth exchanged with him. He knew Grover had been around Camp for a long time, and that he’d been the one to bring Annabeth here, but the look they shared was so full of years of companionship he felt like he was intruding.
“You’re a Lord of the Wild,” Annabeth said softly. “I can’t risk you coming and then getting hurt. The nature spirits have been hit hard by the past two wars, they need you here.”
Grover’s eyes flashed, and it surprised Jason to see the defiance in his eyes, though it faded quickly to be replaced by hurt. “I would go anywhere for you and Percy.” Grover said quietly, looking down. “You know that.”
“And you know Percy would kill me if anything happened to you.” Annabeth said fiercely. “We can handle this Grover, I mean it. I need you here, you’ll be better help trying to reopen the empathy link and asking around with the nature spirits, seeing if any were nearby and saw something. We still don’t know anything about the monster there, maybe satyrs in the area have noticed something.” She smiled at him tremulously. “You just got back from a quest in the Labyrinth and a war with the Triumvirate. You deserve a rest.”
He sniffed. “I can’t rest when both of you are out there.”
She let go of Jason to grip the satyr’s hand. “You can. Last time we were gone you held down the fort. We need you to do that again. Rachel will need help, and so will the other campers. Nobody knows Percy’s missing again and if he doesn’t come back… if they find out he’s gone again I don’t know what will happen. You have to be here.”
Grover nodded after meeting her eyes. “Yeah. Okay.”
Her eyes softened as she looked at him and Jason shifted uncomfortably again. “Juniper would hate for me to take you away so soon after you got back.”
Grover nodded, lip wobbling a bit before he took a breath and straightened up. “I’ll keep things going here. Watching Chiron, talking to Mr. D, helping Rachel and the others. But if you need anything-”
“I know, Grover.” She smiled at him. “If I need any reed pipe magic you’re the first satyr I Iris-message.”
“Be careful.” Grover told them, looking at Jason finally. “And bring Percy back.”
“We will. You too.” Annabeth said.
Grover started to move away but then stopped, hesitating. “Annabeth… what about Sally?”
Jason felt his stomach clench. Sally Jackson, Percy’s mom. He’d only seen her briefly once when she’d come and picked Percy up from Camp last summer. He hadn’t been there to witness the reunion on the Hill like most of the others had, but he’d come in time to say goodbye to Percy and notice Sally waiting at the car.
He knew she was pregnant though, and he’d heard how emotional she’d been the first time Percy was gone. Piper had met her on the Hill and said she was great, and that they’d both been invited to stop in sometime and have dinner there. They hadn’t had the chance yet, what with going to school in L.A and living with Tristan McLean, but Jason knew Piper wanted to.
Part of him wasn’t so sure he did though. Jason wasn’t good with mothers, and Percy was the only demigod out of their little group that actually had one still alive. A good one, too. Jason couldn’t remember ever having that and the thought of seeing it… of intruding like that and realizing everything he and Thalia had never had… he didn’t know if he could do that.
Annabeth paled and cursed, snapping Jason out of his thoughts. “Sally. I completely forgot…”
Grover nodded as if he’d expected the answer. “I’ll take care of it.”
Annabeth bit her lip and looked torn. “Are you sure? I should-”
“I’ll visit her.” Grover said. “You need to get going.”
Annabeth looked down. “I know we should tell her but… after last time, I don’t want to.”
“I think she’d want to know.” Jason breaks in, unable to hold his tongue. “From what I’ve heard about her, and everything Percy’s said, she sounds strong. She should know what’s going on with her son.”
Annabeth leans her head back, looking up at the sky. The next thing she says, Jason doesn’t know whether it’s directed at him and Grover or the gods up on Olympus. “It’s his last summer here at Camp.” She says quietly. “We’re going to New Rome soon and he can’t even have two months of peace-”
She breaks off and shakes her head, looking at Grover. “You’ll be alright?”
He nods and wraps her in a hug. “Be careful.”
Jason sees her squeeze and looks away over the strawberry fields. The Demeter Cabin are trickling over towards them so they can tend to the plants and Jason thinks it’s about time they get going.
“Guys, sorry to interrupt but-”
They pull away from each other quickly and Annabeth wipes her eyes. Jason and Grover both look away and pretend they don’t see. “Right. Jason, come with me. I need you to do something before you pack.”
And that’s how he ends up sitting on the step in front of the Zeus Cabin, a hose trailing from the bathrooms to spray up into the summer air and make a rainbow.
Reyna notices first. “Jason!”
She’s sitting at her desk in the Praetor quarters. Her hair is in its usual braid, the bowl on her desk is full to the brim with jellybeans and she’s wearing a tank top instead of a toga. He sees her Praetor cape laying on the desk beside her hand and he hears a chair scrape back out of his view and steps coming closer before Frank appears in the picture too, looking worried. “What’s wrong?”
It strikes Jason that that’s the first question Frank asks him. It’s not because the two aren’t close- going on a quest to save the world bonds you, whether you want it to or not- but because of who they are and what kind of life they lead. When Jason and Frank talk to one another, nine times out of ten it’s probably because there’s some problem to be solved.
“Percy’s been taken.”
Reyna doesn’t react as Frank’s eyes widen. The Praetor slips from where he’s leaning against the desk and straightens up, blushing, folding his arms across his red t-shirt. Despite growing into his muscles and height Frank still reminds Jason of a stuffed teddy bear.
The worry in both of their eyes when they look back up is obvious. “What- how-”
Reyna cuts Frank off, Jason sees her placing a hand on his wrist briefly. “Explain.” She says calmly, but the undertone of concern makes her voice a little shaky.
Jason does, telling them everything that’s happened in the last two days, and about Apollo’s warning and the dream Jason had earlier.
Frank’s straightened up by the time Jason’s stopped talking and Reyna is leaning back in her chair.
“I’m going to meet you in Iowa.” Frank says. “Hazel and I-”
Reyna coughs. “Frank?”
Frank turns and Jason watches as they lean towards each other whispering. He sees Frank’s face grow determined, watches as Reyna sighs and gestures, whispering furiously until finally Frank nods and Reyna turns to Jason.
Jason raises an eyebrow. How Frank managed to win an argument with Reyna, he would never know. It was a skill he had never possessed. He’d have to ask the guy for pointers.
“Frank and Hazel will be ready to leave and come help you all tonight. Do you require anyone else?”
Jason shakes his head. “I don’t think so I just- Annabeth wanted you guys to know in case something comes for one of you.”
Reyna’s eyes soften. “More of us would help if we could. You know I would too. But we’re still recovering from the Triumvirate’s attack here, Jason, and Frank and I can’t spare more than that.”
Frank nods beside her, looking determined. “Hazel and I will be there as soon as we can.”
“Thank you.” Jason says gratefully. “I’m sure that will really help.”
“Jason.” Frank steps away from the desk. “Was Percy- you said he was fine when he was taken?”
Jason nods and sees relief in Frank’s eyes. “He’ll be fine,” Frank says, and Jason isn’t sure if he’s still talking to him or not. He meets Reyna’s eyes and she bites her lip before her face clears.
“He will be.” She says, sounding confident and sure.
It’s then that Annabeth runs up to him, calling out as she does. “Jason, I know what the monster is!”
She’s run quite a ways, he can see it in the escaped strands of hair and flush of her cheeks. She’s holding a large piece of paper in her hand, all crumpled up, and he watches as she unfolds it.
She jabs a finger at the painting and he recognizes their Oracle’s brushwork. “See it? Rachel had a dream too, this is what we’re up against.”
He looks at it, recognizing the tail from his dream, the outline of the head. “That looks like…”
“The Chimera.” Annabeth nods. “Percy fought it years ago. Is this what you saw in your dream?”
He nods and Annabeth smiles widely. “This is what we’re up against.”
“Annabeth?” Frank asks and she turns to the Iris-message surprised before holding up the painting.
“Rachel painted this from a dream.” Annabeth said. “It’s the Chimera. This is what’s been taking people and killing them.”
The two of them are quiet for a minute as they take in the painting.
“Annabeth.” Reyna’s voice is still worried when she speaks again. “From what I know of it, that monster can’t wield magic and Jason said your enemy does.”
“It does, Leo and Chiron are being manipulated.” Jason breaks in and Annabeth’s arm holding the painting slowly falls to her side.
“That may be the monster killing everyone but it is not the monster who organized all of this.” Reyna says. “They may be working independently of one another.”
Jason sits back, hope crumbling and he looks from the stricken look on Annabeth’s face to his hands.
He and Percy may have had tension in the past, sometimes they argued and clashed, but Jason genuinely liked the guy. When they’d worked together to raise that hurricane he’d felt a companionship he’d never known before. Here was someone who wasn’t afraid of him because he was Jupiter’s son. This guy didn’t back down just because Jason had been Praetor, he spoke his mind, was honest, and Jason appreciated that. He wasn’t in awe of Jason’s power, he wasn’t so intimidated that he stuttered around him (it had happened, sadly) and he treated Jason like a regular guy. So many people had tiptoed around him his entire life, Percy was like a breath of fresh air. Having someone he could train against without holding back? Jason needed that.
The son of Poseidon wasn’t as organized as Jason, that was true. He didn’t follow rules or always consider everything before acting. Jason was impulsive because of his ADHD but his Roman training had tamed that in him, something that would never change.
All of the Greeks were impulsive and more about passion than logic, but Jason loved them for that. Percy was even more fidgety than Leo, but he also fought harder than anybody Jason had ever seen. He was pretty much the embodiment of a Greek demigod fighter around here.
And the guy was funny. Funny and smart and kind, once he let you in.
There was a tension between them though. One that Jason was sure came from who their father’s were, and the question of power and strength that had always been in the back of Jason’s mind when he looked at Percy. The question of who out of the two of them would have won the eidolon fight. Of who would win a fight between them if one started right now and it wasn’t just to train and hone their skills. If they genuinely fought to win, who would be victorious?
(Jason had heard stories of Thalia and Percy fighting at Camp when Annabeth was kidnapped. One in particular when Percy was actually shocked by lightning and then managed to survive, stand back up and throw an entire wave at Jason’s sister. Chiron had ended it before the fight could escalate but Jason had always wondered who might have won if the fight had been allowed to go on.)
He’d felt that last wall of questions between them since the end of the Giant War, and while Jason had been trying to work to bring it down, he’d never been completely sure that Percy had wanted him to succeed.
But Jason would be damned if he didn’t give them both the chance for him to accomplish his goal and instead just let Percy stay lost without trying.
He’d lost track of the conversation but was jolted back to his surroundings when Nico, Will and Rachel all appeared, with the couple following a few steps behind Rachel.
“He’s alive!” Nico called, steadying Will when he stumbled at the sudden stop.
Rachel appeared out of nowhere and marched up to Annabeth, snatching the painting from her hands. “Care to explain?” She demanded the blonde girl, completely ignoring the boys for a moment.
“The Chimera, Rachel!” Annabeth said before turning to Nico.
Rachel’s eyes widened and she looked down at the picture. “Oh.”
“He’s alive?” Annabeth asked, moving towards the son of Hades and his boyfriend. Jason walked over too.
Will nodded. “Nico’s dad said so.”
Jason heard all of them breathe out in relief. “Then we have to leave. Soon. Before anything happens that could change that.”
Frank coughed. “Tact, Jason.”
Jason blushed and turned to Annabeth. “I didn’t mean-”
“No, you’re right.” She held up a hand, but the joy was gone from her face. “We have to go. You’re coming to help, Frank?”
Frank nodded. “Hazel and I will be there tonight.”
Annabeth nodded. “Then I’ll go pack. Thanks for asking your dad, Nico.” She gave his shoulder a quick squeeze, nodding to Reyna, Frank, Will and Jason quickly.
She left, Rachel following after her and shooting them all a glance. The redhead whispered something in Nico’s ear. Something that made the son of Hades pale even further than he already was, making him look tired and like he might be sick.
“We’ll be going as well.” Reyna said, shuffling papers. “Unless there was anything else, Jason?”
He shook his head. “Thanks, guys.”
The message faded and he turned to look at Nico and Will. “What did Rachel tell you?”
Nico shrugged and looked around. “Nothing I didn’t already know.”
Jason waited but it became clear Nico wasn’t going to share anymore. “Okay, well, I should pack. Are you two coming?”
The shook their heads. “Nico has to stay,” Will said. “And so do I.”
Jason nodded, tempted to ask but figuring he wouldn’t get an answer if he did. “Okay then.”
Nico shuffled his feet. “Be careful?” He looked up at Jason fiercely. “Too many weird things are happening lately.”
Jason smiled as he stood up. “Of course. You too, Nico. And you, Will.”
“Sure thing, Jason.” Will replies, stepping backwards. “See you when you get back.”
Will leaves but Nico hesitates. “I mean it.” Nico says. “Be careful. Something’s going to happen.”
Jason meets his eyes. “I will, Nico, and I mean it too. I’ll see you when I get back.”
The son of Hades hesitates, looks like he’s going to say more but then closes his mouth and shakes his head, leaving without another word.
When Piper comes into the cabin later, Jason is still packing, trying to figure out what Nico had meant.
oooOOOooo
Percy wakes up on the futon again.
He’s surprised actually, that he’s not in chains, but he’s sure not going to say anything about it this time. He doesn’t think Aristaeus would really respond to his impertinence as well as he had the last time Percy had questioned the leeway.
Since last time all he’d done was crowd Percy to a wall, yell in his face and wrap a hand around his throat. You know. Little things like that.
Percy harbours no illusions that the giant wouldn’t do worse if pushed too far.
He doesn’t open his eyes. For a few minutes, even if it makes him restless not knowing if the giant is nearby, he just lays there and breathes. He has to think of a way out of here because he can’t keep doing this. He can’t keep waking up, trying to get free and then getting hurt again. His strength is practically nonexistent at this point, his stomach hurts like an earth giant just hurtled a rock at it. He doesn’t know if he’s hungry or just in pain, and right now he’s too tired to think about it further and make the distinction. His mouth is dry though. He’s definitely thirsty.
He swallows as he turns his mind to bigger problems.
What has he accomplished? What does he know?
So far he’s done exactly what he always does. Played things by ear, acting rash and jumping on opportunities without thinking things through. It hasn’t done him any good so far and he doubts it will in the future either.
What can he do to fix it?
Even strength has to bow to wisdom sometimes, Annabeth says in his mind and the corner of Percy’s mouth actually twitches up in a smile because her voice is so present in his mind, he can almost imagine she’s there with him.
What do I do? He wants to ask her. What would you do?
His eyes fly open.
What would Annabeth do?
She’d use logic, of course. Think everything out while calculating every possibility and outcome. Annabeth would have plan A and B and C all the way through G at least.
Annabeth would use her surroundings. She’d get to know her enemy and learn Aristaeus’ weaknesses and then, when the opportunity best presented itself, she would use that and get out of here.
And she would have been able to get out of here, Percy’s sure of it. Annabeth’s always been good at talking her way out of situations, and given how chatty Aristaeus is, he doubts she wouldn’t have been able to convince the giant to let her leave.
Percy comes to a decision then. He’ll do what he thinks Annabeth would. If that means talking to the giant and waiting, then he’ll just have to suffer through.
He takes in the cave roof, noticing huge cracks running lengthwise along it. Maybe that’s why he always feel so cold in here, the fire barely managing to reach him where he’s laying down. Percy hasn’t felt warm since waking up shackled to the wall and he wonders if that’s another mind trick, his damaged immune system or something else. Maybe there’s a Greek God of cold air that really has it out for him.
Honestly he wouldn’t be surprised at this point.
When he looks around some more everything seems the same as earlier. The fridge hums away against the back of the cave, nothing but craggy, grey stone behind it. The walls, in contrast, are smooth and parts of them shine from moisture. The rest is a dusty colour, plain and encompassing.
He glances at the small fridge again. He wonders if the meat is still in there or whether it had just been for the Chimera. Did Aristaeus eat any of that?
Percy’s stomach roils. Aristaeus had already made Percy French Toast. The ingredients of which obviously came from the fridge.
He takes a deep breath and thinks of something else. Imagining the meat sitting beside the eggs and bread, rotting away and bleeding all over it makes Percy want to vomit.
Piper might be onto something with this vegetarian thing, honestly. He prefers his cheeseburgers already cooked, not raw and dripping straight from the cow. Seeing meat so unprocessed and hacked makes him uncomfortable.
He hears footfalls, heavy stomping that comes from the cave’s entrance and Percy slowly raises himself up. He notices his ribs have been retaped and when he feels he notes the bandages on both sides. Wincing he prods the bandaging through his shirt and thinks one of his wounded ribs from before might be broken, a couple of others are definitely cracked or fractured and he doesn’t even want to consider the bruising.
His butt hurts too, when he shifts against the lumpy mattress of the futon he feels his tail bone sting.
When he moves to sit against the wall once more he notices his head is bandaged, and for a second he wonders why before remembering slamming against the ground multiple times, his head hitting rocks and jarring his spine.
He wonders if he has a concussion but he’s not in the state of mind to be able to tell.
One thing is for sure. Iowa is most definitely not going to be his next vacation hotspot.
Aristaeus slowly walks into view, watching Percy intently as the demigod watches him back.
“You’re awake.”
Percy tries for a smile. “Finally.”
The giant nods, looking troubled even as he watches Percy. “You almost killed my pet.”
Percy’s mind races, trying to think of something to say that won’t anger the being in front of him. He settles on hanging his head, hiding his facial expression, which hopefully won’t encourage Aristaeus to strike him. (A lot of monsters seem to hate the mere sight of his face, he’s learned the hard way.)
“It was the Chimera or me.” He says finally. “I did what I had to so I would stay alive.”
There’s a few moments of silence before the giant releases a deep breath. Percy feels the gust of it from where he’s sitting and it makes his nose wrinkle but otherwise he does nothing but look up.
“Things escalated rather quicker than I estimated.” Aristaeus looked troubled. “To be perfectly honest with you, I never would have thought you would win that fight, Perseus. Especially in your condition.”
Percy’s hand reaches back to touch his taped ribs. “Honestly,” he says with a small, forced grin, “neither did I.”
The giant’s lips twitch before he grows somber once more. “You place me in a difficult position once again. You almost killed the monster that is my ally and protection.” Percy stores that tidbit away for later. “You have a weapon on you that I cannot remove. Any other adversary would have killed you by now.”
Percy’s hand shoots to Riptide, still in his pocket. Riptide returned to his pocket through some kind of magic. Magic that apparently Aristaeus wasn’t strong enough to break. At least Percy knew the giant had limits in some areas. “But you haven’t.”
“No,” the giant muses. “Because I again would like you to consider my offer.” Aristaeus leans forward, blinking, and his reptilian eyes bore into Percy’s. “Join me. Join our cause against the Olympians. You are formidable, none could deny it. I will not be stupid and try to do so. You have a talent for survival I have rarely seen before. I would ask you to join me. Aid me and I will reward you. Your injuries will heal, your loved ones and their loved ones will be spared. The gods haven’t given or sent you aid since I have taken you. What does that say of their affection towards yourself? Zeus has done nothing. Your father has done nothing. After all you’ve given for them, they sit back and cut their losses, never regretting turning a blind eye. Why would you save them?”
Percy hesitates. “I already told you. The gods may be bad, but the Titans- Kronos, Tartarus and Gaea- they’re worse.”
Aristaeus shakes his head immediately. “Don’t you see? He will owe his rise to you. To me. To the both of us. His debt to us will give us so much power over him we can stop my brother from repeating past mistakes, or any others we see he will make. Nothing will happen without our approval, and between the large group of us that I intend to put in charge, I know we will rule wisely and justly.”
Percy’s jaw worked. He didn’t see how the giant’s goal was realistic. “Kronos is scattered. I know it, I was there when it happened. It would take centuries for him to regain strength, if it were even possible.”
Aristaeus bows his head in acknowledgement. “There are ways to speed the process. If all goes to plan we would have Kronos reclaim his throne within the year.”
Percy’s blood runs cold, shock making his mind go blank. He remembers the faces of everyone who died in the Battle of Manhattan. The decimation of Olympus, the defeat in his friend’s shoulders towards the end.
He remembers Beckendorf sacrificing himself, Silena leading the Ares campers into battle, Michael Yew shouting at him to collapse the bridge.
Percy pictures Luke, sacrificing himself after giving so much of himself to Kronos’ side. The sadness on his face, the plea he begged to Percy, to make the world better. To stop anyone from ever thinking someone like Kronos could possibly be the good guy.
He remembers how helpless he’d felt the entire time, trying to save everyone when it just wasn’t possible. How tired the Achilles Curse made him, the way Thalia and the Hunters had to scrounge for leftover arrows and others campers ran out of defenses and had finally made a last, victorious stand at the doors of the Empire State Building.
Percy remembers the pain, and the loss.
He remembers Annabeth nearly dying from a poisoned knife wound.
Those are the things he thinks of when he hears Kronos’ name. Those memories and feelings are what Kronos brings with him and Percy never wants anything like that to happen again. He doesn’t want to hear that it’s possible for Kronos to rule the world and tear down the gods within a year. So soon after all the sacrifices it took to stop him rising less than two years ago.
His voice is a whisper when he speaks. “How?”
The giant’s mouth opens before he snaps it shut. “I would not share secrets with my enemy. Even I do not fall so far into the realm of foolishness.”
Percy closes his eyes, makes his decision. “And what if I wasn’t your enemy?”
Aristaeus’ eyes snap to him and never waver from his face, his scrutiny making Percy’s skin prickle. He doesn’t back down though. His life could depend on these few moments.
“Well that,” Aristaeus says finally, victory layering his voice. “That would be a different situation entirely.”
