there's something so poetic about young royals ending with the four characters who's journeys of finding themselves were so influenced and ruined by hillerska and the system all driving away from it laughing and heading towards something new together. they are literally leaving hillerska and the story they lived there behind

the thing is there's like, a point of oversaturation for everything, and it's why so many things get dropped after a few minutes. and we act like millennials or gen z kids "have short attention spans" but... that's not quite it. it's more like - we did like it. you just ruined it.
capitalism sees product A having moderate success, and then everything has to come out with their "own version" of product A (which is often exactly the same). and they dump extreme amounts of money and environmental waste into each horrible simulacrum they trot out each season.
now it's not just tiktokkers making videos; it's that instagram and even fucking tumblr both think you want live feeds and video-first programming. and it helps them, because videos are easier to sneak native ads into. the books coming out all have to have 78 buzzwords in them for SEO, or otherwise they don't get published. they are making a live-action remake of moana. i haven't googled it, but there's probably another marvel or starwars something coming out, no matter when you're reading this post.
and we are like "hi, this clone of project A completely misses the point of the original. it is soulless and colorless and miserable." and the company nods and says "yes totally. here is a different clone, but special." and we look at clone 2 and we say "nope, this one is still flat and bad, y'all" and they're like "no, totally, we hear you," and then they make another clone but this time it's, like, a joyless prequel. and by the time they've successfully rolled out "clone 89", the market is incredibly oversaturated, and the consumer is blamed because the company isn't turning a profit.
and like - take even something digital like the tumblr "live streaming" function i just mentioned. that has to take up server space and some amount of carbon footprint; just so this brokenass blue hellsite can roll out a feature that literally none of its userbase actually wants. the thing that's the kicker here: even something that doesn't have a physical production plant still impacts the environment.
and it all just feels like it's rolling out of control because like, you watch companies pour hundreds of thousands of dollars into a remake of a remake of something nobody wants anymore and you're like, not able to afford eggs anymore. and you tell the company that really what you want is a good story about survival and they say "okay so you mean a YA white protagonist has some kind of 'spicy' love triangle" and you're like - hey man i think you're misunderstanding the point of storytelling but they've already printed 76 versions of "city of blood and magic" and "queen of diamond rule" and spent literally millions of dollars on the movie "Candy Crush Killer: Coming to Eat You".
it's like being stuck in a room with a clown that keeps telling the same joke over and over but it's worse every time. and that would be fine but he keeps fucking charging you 6.99. and you keep being like "no, i know it made me laugh the first time, but that's because it was different and new" and the clown is just aggressively sitting there saying "well! plenty of people like my jokes! the reason you're bored of this is because maybe there's something wrong with you!"

So in the Sneak Peak for ep 7 Alastor is frowning for like a split second
He looks so... tired and sad.
The fact that he drops his smile for this one second while saying "Dooming everyone you love?" is also interesting. Does Al have some regrets after all? Maybe it's somehow connected to his mother?
Later on, Alastor talks about how a smile doesn't always mean that someone is happy, that it can be used as a tool to fool people around you that you are in control/that you are fine. It seems as if Al's permanent smile is a copying mechanism. Makes me wonder what the hell happened that he does this.
I like that we get those lil snippets about Al and we're left to figure out if we want to trust him or not. He is such a well written character.

IT IS SO IMPORTANT TO ME THAT HYUNA, who was presumably forced to be an Idol for the alien stage and definitely suffered in her past for it, stills wants to sing for other humans even after escaping. She wants to spread music purely for music's sake, to get people hyped up and cheerful, because she loves singing and wants her audience to love singing and see it as smth fun and not just a talent the aliens abuse for sadistic entertainment. She's redefining singing despite how it's treated her and it's kinda beautiful and wholesome.

I've been thinking about this line a lot and just how much of a loaded statement it really is, especially with how Jensen delivered it. Jacting choices you strike again.
It's not just a passing "yeah I forgive you." It's an "Of course I forgive you. You're Cas. You're my best friend. And I love you so much. How could I NOT forgive you?" It's almost like not forgiving Cas isn't even an option for Dean. He'll always forgive him at the end of the day. Because it's his Cas.

More Slay the Princess thoughts. There are two routes where you can have all the voices at once: the Razor and the Moment of Clarity.
In the Razor, Chapters 3 and 4, the Voice of the Cheated lets you skip ahead to the cabin and to confronting the Princess. In the Moment of Clarity, you must make all the choices that lead you to walking to the cabin, wiping away the mirror, taking the blade, etc.
In the Razor, you go through and remember all the deaths before the final chapter. In the Moment of Clarity, you don't remember any of them, even though the Voices do.
In the Razor, you have several choices you can make when you meet the Princess, leading to a different Voice appearing before the montage starts. In the Moment of Clarity, you only get one choice, the others all greyed out.
In the Razor, there are two vessels you can bring to the Shifting Mound depending on your choices. In the Moment of Clarity, there is only one vessel, one outcome ignoring that you can choose to walk away from the cabin and that counts as a different outcome.
In the Razor's final chapter, the Voices are all very vocal, energetic, and have a variety of opinions when she shows her final form. In the Moment of Clarity, they all share a similar attitude. They're tired, they've all given up.
In the Moment of Clarity, you're at your weakest, with the Princess breaking your will and leaving you with only one option.
But in the Razor, you're at your strongest before fully awakening. You can push out the Voices and the Narrator and bring yourself and the Princess into the Long Quiet with a thought, and are at the least equally as strong as her, if not more so (depending on which version of the Razor you face).
The Moment of Clarity has your will broken against the Princess, trying and failing. In "The Empty Cup" route in the Razor, the Princess tries and fails to hurt you, and is broken because of it.
Parallels.

The scene in the tramway was so striking to me. Louis and Claudia riding at the back (because, Jim Crow south), while Lestat – and we later find out, Antoinette – ride at the front.
It is a physical representation of the emotional divide between the characters at the beginning of the episode: the battle lines have been drawn, Claudia and Louis are seemingly at a disadvantage – always one step behind Lestat, but Claudia is determined to follow through with the plan.
This scene is yet another brilliant demonstration of how the writers incorporate the added complexity of Louis and Claudia's race into every aspect of the narrative.
Louis and Claudia being black in this adaptation is not just surface level window dressing to win diversity points. Their race is an integral part of their characters and how they relate to Lestat.

i don't know if someone brought this up already or if it's too obvious but can we talk about Loop's wish?
Loop (Siffrin) wished for someone (anyone) to help them (to help Siffrin) so that the loops would be over but the Universe's help was not to just yank Loop out of their timeline and throw into another Siffrin's as they said, no, that's not what happened
we know that Wish Craft doesn't grant wishes per se, it gives you something so that your wish can be fulfilled and this is exactly what happened
the Universe fulfilled Siffrin's wish, it helped Siffrin by giving them someone who can help them stop the loops and that brings us to the conclusion that Loop helped themselves and fulfilled their own wish
i'm just
this game's writing is truly unbelievable

I've reached the Helm's Deep chapter :>>
'Where is Gimli?'
'I do not know,' said Aragorn. 'I last saw him fighting on the ground behind the wall, but the enemy swept us apart.'
'Alas! That is evil news,' said Legolas.
'He is stout and strong,' said Aragorn. 'Let us hope that he will escape back to the caves. There he would be safe for a while. Safer than we. Such a refuge would be to the liking of a dwarf.'
'That must be my hope,' said Legolas. 'But I wish that he had come this way. I desired to tell Master Gimli that my tale is now thirty-nine.'
---
'Forty-two, Master Legolas!' he cried. 'Alas! My axe is notched: the forty-second had an iron collar on his neck. How is it with you?'
'You have passed my score by one,' answered Legolas. 'But I do not grudge you the game, so glad am I to see you on your legs!'

Ok this is something I noticed before but the implications didn't really fully click until my... third watch? Plus 2nd manga read. Geez. But anyways
[ID: A screenshot from the 2011 Hunter x Hunter anime. Three Greed Island cards are shown over a blue background; the middle card being slightly bigger in the lineup. From left to right, they are Patch of Shore, Paladin's Necklace, and Blue Planet. End ID.]
At the end of Greed Island, the trio decide to take one card for each of them out of the game. Bisky takes Blue Planet, as was her original goal, but Gon and Killua's cards are the Paladin's Necklace and a transformed Accompany, respectively.
Reflecting their bond, their cards require the presence of the other to be truly useful. The Accompany cannot be taken as is. The Paladin's Necklace does nothing on its own. All of this is so that Gon can meet Ging, which Killua puts his card towards instead of something specifically for him alone (prioritizing Gon as usual), but it's also an Accompany, which is the only means in which they can stay together - their mutual want.
But it goes deeper than that. I wondered about the Accompany being transformed specifically into Patch of Shore before when it could've been any restricted slot card, but there is so much else going on at the end of the arc that my thoughts basically stopped at "well it's an odd card with no clear use" and "it's a card the protagonists spent a good deal of time working towards getting, so it's a recognizable callback to the audience" but oh man.
Gon probably would've been the one to transform that card. His card is the Paladin's Necklace, and that makes Killua's the Accompany. Disguising it as Patch of Shore, where Killua injured his hands, where Gon said that it has to be him, not only makes that card unequivocally Killua's, but also makes me think that this is some quiet way of Gon to show his appreciation for him.
The Accompany is his idea, after all, which says "I want you with me". Transforming it into Patch of Shore though, says "I don’t want to/I can’t do this without you."
