Maul is an opportunist and a manipulator. These skills only get sharpened from his time alone, and serve him extremely well as the Shadow. Rebels' Maul is an old conman who many see as out of character, but if you look closely there are common threads of using language as a tool.

I firmly believe that he learnt this from Deenine.

I recently rewatched one piece movie 6 again, and it always really strikes me how much mamoru hosoda’s fingerprints are all over it, it really does make that movie stand out so much. Like. I always remember movie 6, not necessarily just because of the fucking flower, but because the direction feels so unique to him. I do remember the other movies, but only in vague summaries, like the animal island one, or the one that was kinda about zoro (and he sprains sanji’s leg), or the one with that, shell? Spire castle??? (where Sanji gets crucified and also straight up kicks his feet into spikes), and the first one that was just about treasure (Sanji wasn’t in it), and the one about a race??? (I don’t remember what Sanji did in that) but movie 6 is just like, oh yeah, the horror, the flower, the themes, the movie characters, the design, the fish, specific scenes…

I haven’t watched other Hosoda movies in suuuuuch a long time so I might be totally off the mark here, but if you watch movie 6 and compare the directing of the other one piece movies, I think you really highlight a lot of his style. He likes focusing the camera on the person listening instead of the person talking, or just on one of the characters throughout the conversation instead of both. He likes gilligan cuts. He likes silence. It feels like there’s a certain type of beat he likes when it comes to conversations, notably those long beats of silence that occasionally come up, but also a lot of snappy back and forths, with no break between lines, during quite long dialogues even. It’s just. *clenches fist* pretty neat.

#malky talks about one piece #there’s not a lot of panning shots #if I remember correctly #there’s of course the panning shot of that crew conglomerate at the end #there’s the POV camera of nami as they’re all going through the forest in the beginning #but not much else #the sequence of dj gappa chasing down sanji nami and zoro as well is unique #in how it portrays different events of different times as if it was one scene #and I think there’s a significant chunk of the movie where the camera doesn’t focus on a characters face when they talk #instead focusing on the back of their head or at scenery #one piece

So today's been...shit.

My thanksgiving so far:

Woke up at 3, nobody here cared enough to wake me up for any festivities (no festivities to begin with)

Was stuck in my room most the day cause they had friends in and out not for dinner but for visits, and i can't go out when they have people here cause their friends are all old-gen white dudes with no filters

The dog got out because they left the door wide open while they had a burn pile in the yard, so my brother (who was crying and blubbering the entire time, not actually calling out) and I had to look for him while mom stood by the back door half-heartedly calling his name

Got yelled at for telling Mom they should shut the screen door properly so he doesn't get out again, and this is after she yelled at me to come help while i was in the middle of putting my shoes on to help

am now in my room again feeling like shit because Mom spent the last hour of my day treating me like a living, walking example of the definition of the word "problem" when I've done fuckall to cause trouble and am the only reason we got the dog back

Aur, or to be more specific, the Moireasdan ruler at the time, are also granted the use of a sword that has long since been passed down through the line. Unlike the truth-compelling whip that is also passed down and has many names, the sword only has one-- Aithreachas (repentance). No one knows why it gained that name at all, or the story behind it.

The sword is an elegant silver sword, with plants growing from the hilt (that yes, can also be utilized by the ruler). Its use is that it can be summoned and dismissed at will, making it so that its owner is never without protection.

Aur had always thought of it as his father's sword. It's odd to see it in his own grip now.
