#but she's turning 19 this year she's literally not representative of the generation currently at that age
Text
The scariest thing about being the same person for 5 years straight is that some people are 5 years older than when I met them. This is extra scary because if I assume no one was using tumblr despite being below 13, that means they're all legal adults now every single one all of them that's bonkers. You used to be 13. How could this happen.

I CLICKED IN EVERY LINK WORD IN THE BOOK OF MARIO THOUSANDS OF DOORS PLOT SYNOPSIS, AND THIS IS WHAT I FOUND
Things of note:47
Let's go
1 Book of mario probably takes place 7 years after the Main events in BoM64 (not the Epilogue, the Epilogue is very close chronologically to BoMToD ) because of one of Karl marques  dialogues
2 Mr krump's daughter died in the war because of an atrocious food shortage caused by the war
3 the 10 nautis want to use the glass stars to win the war
4 "Considering that Cortze had been trapped on his boat for 1,000 years, this means Mr. Krump is over a millennium old, making him one of the oldest characters in the series" ex-fucking-cuse me???? He's more than a thousand year old? What?
5 10 nauit culture lacks sweets
6 FUCKIN GOOMBA are from Thailand and probably fought in the war
7 goombell has sulfur in her brain, i don't know how bad is that, its pretty bad but how much?
8 prof honesty is against the Persian empire and tells mario to destroy prince peach
9 "The first 6 Glass Stars were collected for thousands of years, the 7th Glass Star, the Stars Star, is only five years old. The Glass Stars had a chance of becoming a demon, that could only be stopped with a singular Glass Star, creating a weird situation" thats interesting
10 coffee is toxic to smooths, meaning drinking high amounts of coffee means they won't attack you since they attack by sucking blood
11 koopley was gone for 10 years, since the war started about 7 years before ToD it means he has no idea about the war
12 hocktail house won an Oscar!
13 Mr mowz is one of few people from ToD who know mario is a female (he was male in BoM64 but he's a she after that)
14 goomb from BoM64 somehow ended up eaten by hoko saba wich caused him to die (goomb not hoko saba)
15 the 10-nauti are n#zi's and since they're the only one (that we know of) who have a moon base, meaning were literally fighting space n#zi's
16 "According to TEC, Grodan is full of "computers you do not care about." This could mean that Grodan is a robot, but that does not matter" a great , he's a robotic space h#tl$r
17 somehow peach got TEC pregnant? How do you have a baby with a computer? He got cyber aborted so no weird prince robot baby in this story, I swear the lore gets more crazy the more I learn about it
18 the punnies are fighting the British in the big tree but that is unrelated with the war
19 viviana apparently lost her baby
20 Belda has a wife
21 sir snow is male, even tho he's like the only character with boobs in the history of mario
22 don piano owns the European union and the plant association, even tho he owns the EU, most of it is still Persian empire territory, wich mean he's just one of the leaders of the persian empire (or he's just an allied nation?), maybe the reason the princess of peaches went to rogueport is to talk with Don piano because politics
23 "Piano's two bodyguards aren't fathers, thus not making them targets to Carbon." WHY IS THAT SO OMINOUS (butchered that word)
24 piano gave the plant association to frankie, he may or may not have turned it into a sugar cookie company (cookie clicker flashbacks)
25 the winner of the glitty pit competition is awarded the prize of being grubbas son,.........WOT?
26 hawk green tried to abort Maria's son by giving maria poisoned cake
27 "It's implied that Hawc Green was raped by Grubba at some point, since he later sends an email to Mario talking about "the blue cock" and how it makes him feel rage" I did not expect that
28 "It's implied in Section 8 that Yoshi Kid might have an N-Word Pass." Thats one way to put it
29 afternoon city is known for its great pudding
30 the queen of shadows is supergod, meaning its more powerful than gods, browser is also a supergod (since he was in command of the Christian god) but as you know he died and the current one is a glass clone
31 cortze is mr. Krumps dead son/daughter who died in the war, since she's the ghost pirate it means she was in the marines
32 bob seems to hate the irish
33 boat rent is located in the shore of Pennsylvania USA, right on koop territory
34 don piano gave maria ownership of the world famous train named MORE-COFFEE-MACHINES!
35 Pennington seems to hate luigi (lewis) calling him a whore
36 the engineer is constantly on drugs and has mood swings, not the type of guy you'd want to control a train
37 when mario asked the engineer for an autograph he gave mario AN ENTIRE FUCKING AIRPORT
38 ghost T. Is the holy spirit and can stop the war at any moment, however he refuses to do so
39 Darknesses are bumpies that over the years became purple
40 the moon has oxygen (since mario and co. Stay outside and don't die) it is 10-nauti territory and is great for discoveries
41 posko farh were probably involved in the war, if they have a giant powerful cannon that can blast spaceships into the moon it can also probably blast giant holes in enemy bases
42 goldbob (not to be confused with general goldbob white house) is the only person in posko farh with acces to weapons making him a powerful man
43 general white left posko farh because of the bad wifi connection
44 "Master of Shadow Darkness...Popular Stones...Seven Run...So we're perfect...Be restored to stone again...Know stars. Let's be alone...And that's the shoe...But the stars are balanced." Were gonna need an expert to decipher this one, its probably something about the stellarrvinden
45 representative is hoko saba's brother/Girlfriend, yes, girlfriend AND brother, incest is in the air and it smells like rotten fish
46 grodan sealed the devil in his rocket, thats a good idea, let's send the devil into space
47 "According to Queen of Shadows herself, her Spirit Form, aka her true self, is a child" woah, very informative, she's 1000 years old wich is certainly not a kid, however she's a supergod and since they're immortal it makes sense that 1000 years old is still a child, it also mean that the disaster caused 1000 years ago was probably an accident, give a baby powers even gods can't counter and you can bet your ass it will create a few disasters by accidents
@boom-fanfic-a-latta i expect you to see this

Is, is that fucking belize?

bittersweet netflix shadow and bone finale (s1 e8) rewatch; accoutrement: white wine with ice cubes in it (no YOU'RE a mom drink shh)
my wine's like fruity I love her
light and darkness title card we love to see it
Inej looking at Alina before she goes below deck to hide <3
okay that 'what can you really do on your own' was like not fun that shit hurted
okay but Jesper's 'not enough'? <3
oh no my baby Zoya's first inkling that Darkles does not really care
omg Helnik just appeared and I remembered how much heartbreak I have to face in this episode
gods I love Danielle as Nina so so much
'this can't be it' said she with her pleading smile with downturned eyebrows MA'AM I-
don't break my dumb little heart
I might hate Calahan's little accent but they're making me tear up
oh gods I literally cannot keep a hold on myself when Dani's accent bleeds through with full force, it's like she comes more alive or smth
'I will keep you warm' SIR WHAT-
I am surprised they showed a leaning in for a kiss so soon but I'm not mad about it
her little eyebrow twitch at 'what are waffles'
when that rando said 'i hunt slavers now' a dread settled into me because I knew what was about to go down
Matthias looking somberly at the stuffed wolf's head </3
I am so incredibly entranced by this exchange between Fedyor and Nina and what it represents, it's very interesting that they pushed up their storyline to match with the timeline
damn it's kind of jarring to be back in the Fold
'REMEMBER WHO'S DRIVING'??!!!! *you better stop* meme, *i am, disgusted* meme, *oh wow, oh wow* meme
Mal you fucking idiot you could never take the crows by surprise
the music rising as Kaz starts explaining his thought process, fucking perfection
haha Mal bitchass Inej caught you
'Because if he isn't with Kirigan's crew, he's with ours' WHEN I TELL YOU I SCREAMED
'And why would we destroy the Fold? It's the greatest weapon we've got' valid point at the moment but you know I don't necessarily agree with your methods
the use of the light tunnel in the show instead of Alina just being a super flashlight in the books is quite an interesting addition as well
is this an inappropriate time to point out how pretty Ben Barnes is
okay I kind of love the depiction of the shadow powers okay sue me
'they are traitors who tried to kill you' why are you suddenly making valid points despite having kind of committed low scale genocide
'i never said I was smart' YES MAL BE THE VOICE OF HIMBOS EVERYWHERE
Kaz's face going from 'can you believe this idiot' at Mal to 'fuck me I'm gonna do the same thing aren't I' at Inej
'For who would oppose us now?' *himbo romantic rival appears out of nowhere and shoots at him* god I love this show
him standing calmly in his ridiculous all black attire after nodding at his soldier to stop the himbo in his tracks, i fucking can't
could she summon light without the Darkling making her after he put the collar on her until the uhm moment in the books? idts but in the show she can hmm
'only because I'm not in the game' you tell him Jesper
not me snickering at 'you'll be seen not as a saviour, but as a heretic' LMFAO
'Shame. I'll have to give that speech again now.' THIS SHOW IS A FUCKING COMEDY AND YOU CAN'T PROVE ME WRONG
YES LET'S FUCKING GO SULI SOLIDARITY
Darkles casually whipping the Cut out like a shuriken or a throwing knife at Jesper because he shot at him lmao I can't
INEJ FUCKING GHAFA STABBED ONE THE OLDEST AND MOST POWERFUL PEOPLE IN THAT WORLD AND THAT IS VERY TELLING OF HER POWER
that moment where you actually think that affected him despite having read the books and watched the show
and then he has to go and fucking say 'it will take more than this' and I can't be help but be a little bit impressed at this old fool's resilience
throwback to when he said 'the king is a child' sir you make some valid points sometimes and it does make it difficult to hate you
I would just like to inform everyone that it is currently 6:09 am IST and I am sipping my second mug of wine while watching netflix sab for the second time instead of doing my three papers that are due tomorrow
I'm sorry but Inej jumping to check on Zoya after she gets knocked over by the volcra? first class display of solidarity and sisterhood as well as Inej's inherent kindness
Kaz jumping in front of a FUCKING VOLCRA AND STABBING IT WITH HIS CANE to save Inej, you best believe love is true, kids
god the volcra are so ugly and gross, they did such a good job with them
they kind of remind me of these creatures (I think they might have been called Hollows or smth) from the Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children movie
STAG VISION TIME
despite my dislike for the callous nature with which the stag plotline was handled, I kind of dig the stag vision scene
'It's just me and you now, Alina. And we're all we need, anyway.' I actually feel bad for this old fool simping for this wonderful gorgeous powerful woman despite lying to her and manipulating her and exploiting her power
okay 'I never needed you' *stabs the bone fragment out of his hand* beautiful power move I fucking love you so so much
alright ben looking like ✨ that✨ not only in physical pain but also emotional pain at what the Darkling clearly considers another betrayal from this girl he wants to give the world and maybe? loves? maybe? or at least has feelings for makes my fucking heart hurt while simultaneously soar at Alina taking back control and reclaiming her power as her own and stepping into her own
'how do you claim such power' okay could have had better dialogue there writers
the fucking score lifting as she says 'you cannot claim what was not given to you' good people my heart is full
one day I'll talk about my defense of the chosen one trope because god damn I kind of love it
hmm I wonder was that brief hesitation that we saw on Alina's face due to her thinking about the 'you chose to betray our people' comment or the 'i was trying to save us' comment because that will define some of her actions in the later seasons (hopefully god if we get some, I honestly don't know what with this stupid brownface debacle)
I'm not saying talking about brownface and pointing out that it is wrong (for further context, I am actually brown) and harmful is stupid btw I'm talking about the incidents involving brownface in question
I don't wanna talk about this anymore but I might feel like I need to and end up posting about it idk
goodness Ivan actually believing in this cause makes me so sad because he too has been victimized by the system that ostracizes Grisha and he has every right to feel the way that he does
Ben actually fighting in that ridiculously heavy cloak and kefta when he's about to turn 40 this year makes me super impressed because I as a 19 year old sometimes wake up with muscle pulls after weeks of inactivity it's weird idk
also I understand that this Mal Darkling fight is completely fanservice and serves nearly no purpose to the plot in general but like I? love it?
'I don't have to kill you Darkling. Your past will do it for me' YES HIMBO GO OFF YOU TELL THAT OLD MAN GODS THAT WAS SEXY AS FUCK
maybe it's because I know Darkles will survive and will come out of it more powerful but I can't get myself to feel bad for him at the moment
Inej and Mal tearing up at Alina's condition made me almost feel something despite it being super obvious she was gonna be fine and save their asses at the last moment
HER POWER
a solitary Kaz in spotted on the western side of the newly expanded fold in his signature all black emo boy look
okay but the crows with zoya and malina is such an adorable team? I literally love them so much?
INEJ'S FUCKING SMILE AT ALINA GIVING HER THE DAGGER AND KAZ LOOKING AT HER AGSGSGSHSJSJSK MY HEART CAN'T TAKE THIS ANYMORE
SHE KNOWS JUST WHAT TO NAME IT WELL GIRLIE I KNOW IT TOO AND MY FUCKING HEART IS LITERALLY GONNA BURST
okay I know they had one interaction but Mal and Jesper would be besties in another universe
Kaz glaring at Jesper when he answers ''course not' to Alina's 'will you still be trying to kidnap me?' tell me one fucking adaptation that got the dynamics between characters this perfectly
okay why do I love that Alina kept the jewellery as maybe a small nod to she has the wits to, um, you know, I don't wanna say steal, but, um, yeah, steal it because she knew she would need money to survive on the run
oh Jessie I love you so much I wish you hadn't said those things on you ig story about the brownface
it's like every single celeb I grow attached to god's like nope that one is going to do or say something problematic (hey btw im not reassigning blame to god for stuff people have done out of their own free will, 'twas a joke)
AAAAAAAH them saying 'the deal is the deal' in the show even though they didn't have to but like they did and I love them for it
Inej literally not being able to not stare at Kaz's face and smile after this <3
'I didn't expect it to burn at all. But it can be destroyed in the end. Just like him' babe you're not wrong but like um just you wait
god Mal being on supportive boyfie mode is well, absolutely adorable, obviously, but I wish we got to see more of him as a person outside of his attachment to Alina
kaz my little demjin I wish you hadn't have had to suffer so much to meet the crows and find your calling
fastforwarding Zoya's arc is also an interesting choice to me
I wish the hug hadn't been done though, it didn't feel earned
maybe Alina awkwardly and half-heartedly (remember, at this point the alliance is fresh and they still don't entirely trust each other) reached for a hug and Zoya avoided her? and then the rest of Zoya's lines followed? that would have made more sense to me at least
I love Sujaya as well, she brought life into Zoya with whatever little screentime and scraps of writing she got
inej asking kaz 'what's your angle?' beep bop bleep morp I sense another incoming embarrassing love confession
'but we do need you' *stares at her face intensely* 'I need you' ah look at the clock, look's like it's time to screech and flap your arms like you're a volcra because you're incapable of containing your emotions
NO YOU CAN'T GO DIRECTLY FROM KANEJ PROGRESS TO HELNIK BREAKUP (TEMPORARY, MIND YOU)
helnik my loves you don't deserve this I'm so sorry for both of you
Matthias fucking smiling ruefully while he says 'this was... just a cruel joke all along' THIS IS NOT FUCKING OKAY
omg hellgate
AAAAAAAAH NINA IS ON THE SAME FRAME AS THE OG CROWS I CAN'T HANDLE THIS
CAMERA PAN FROM KAZ SAYING 'JUST HOW THIS ALL STARTED... WE'RE GONNA NEED A HEARTRENDED' TO NINA OVERHEARING HIM AND LOOKING OVER?????!!!!!! WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE DOING THIS TO ME?!
Nina genuinely being curious as to the status of the sun saint because she obviously still cares
Also, 'But she is a Saint' okay Kaz trying to earn brownie points you have succeeded
DID THAT SAILOR JUST SAY 'GOED MORGEN FENTOMEN' TO MALINA BECAUSE I AM NOT OKAY WITH THEM JUST THROWING THAT IN MY FACE ALL OF A SUDDEN
gods I know I'll probably see them again but my heart is full of sorrow as my eyes drink in the sight of my crows for the last time for a while
I know people were annoyed at the meadow flashbacks but guess what? as a darklina, I loved them
'now that the Darkling is dead' could have phrased that a little differently my dudes that line needed to hold more weight
am I glad that they showed Darkles in this state with his nichevo'ya as a tasty little cliffhanger despite not being entirely true to the source material? maybe but only because Ben Barnes saying 'follow' and the nichevo'ya doing exactly so sent a chill down my spine
well, that's it for now, I'll have to move on I guess, get back to my real life which I'm obviously not ready to do
thank you to whoever actually read these things
I probably should have just made reactions or commentary videos instead but I'm lazy
my tumblr will probably go into inactivity once more as I emerge from my stint in the grishaverse
it was quite short (less than 2 months), considering the length of my other obsessions but it was definitely more intense than the other ones

Mr. Evans and the Congresswoman - Part 2
Tumblr media
Paring: Chris Evans x Politician Reader
Rating: PG
Word Count: 1,858
Warnings: Political topics such as Biden, Harris, our current White House occupant and the current administration.
Description:  It is the week of the DNC and Chris is once again interviewing you for A Starting Point.
A/N: The DNC inspired me to write a second part for this story.  This is pure fiction as I do not know what Chris believes when it comes to politics and policy issues. This is a complete work of fiction.
I do not permit my work to be to be posted on any other site without my permission.
Note: Updated for grammar and punctuation edits.
Tumblr media
"Hi, Congresswoman Y/L/N?" Chris Evans asked with a smile.
He was once again interviewing you for ASP. This time it was during the week of the Democratic National Convention. Chris and Mark had already talked to other politicians such as Senator Cory Booker and Representatives Ro Khanna and Alma Adams. You were the last elected official he was slated to interview to wrap up the DNC week.
Truthfully, Chris was happy to get the chance to talk with you again. Your previous interview for ASP was such a hit that it garnered a lot of attention from fans and the media. However, it was not because you helped bring more legitimacy and attention for ASP, but instead, Chris found himself genuinely admiring you.
"Hi," you said to Chris, giving a small wave through the Zoom screen. "I told you to call me by my first name."
"I know, but I still want to show respect," Chris responded with a teasing smile. Was he mildly flirting with the congresswoman? Yes, but he had no shame in doing so. "How are you? You are looking well."
"I am doing well. Thank you. How about you?"
"Same. Just trying to stay sane through everything. I'm actually currently in London. Working on a project." Chris admitted.
"Uh oh. You better be staying safe and following the right procedures and protocols," you lightly reprimanded him.
"My fans ratted me out. They found where I was just by the hotel door. Can you believe that? That is some FBI-level investigating, right there. I'd be impressed if I weren't also terrified of the lengths some of these fans will go to scout my location," Chris ranted. He did not understand why he was sharing this with you, but a part of him felt comfortable doing so.
"That…is quite impressive, I must say. Creepy. Scary. But impressive. You need to learn how to put in a Zoom background. It would solve all of your problems," you suggested to him.
"I would, but I'm technology deficient. Maybe I should look up some Zoom tutorials on how to do it. Give it a try."
"There is no try…only do," you advised cheekily.
"Now you're quoting Yoda. A woman after my own heart," Chris replied. He knew he needed to refocus. "So, as you can tell, Mark won't be joining us for this interview. I'm going to hit record if that is okay?"
"Okay. I'm ready when you are," you said.
When the record notification appeared on screen, Chris introduced you and immediately went into the first question.
"How do you think the DNC is going so far, particularly how this year is more of a virtual setting rather than in-person due to COVID-19?"
"Despite not having the big in-person celebration/gathering, I think the virtual setting is working very well. Better than I expected, actually. It gives off a more inclusive and intimate vibe to the DNC that we haven't felt before. I like the whole documentary approach and feel to it," you replied honestly.
"Were you excited that Joe Biden chose Senator Kamala Harris as his running mate?" asked Chris.
"Oh my God! I was so happy that Vice President Biden chose Senator Harris as his running mate. Like, my staff and I were beyond ecstatic. There is no one better to be Biden's running mate than Harris. She is amazing. Such an inspiration. I'm not going to lie, but I'm really excited for the debate between her and Pence."
That made Chris laugh. "Yeah, me too. Senator Harris really knows how to pull all the punches. Her nomination as VP has been met with overall positive response. The Trump Administration and Republican pundits appear to have a hard time painting a negative image of Harris. Why do you think Trump and Fox News are struggling to provide a negative image for her?"
"That is an excellent question. The public's overwhelming response to Harris' nomination is because 1.) she is the first black and south Asian woman to be on a major presidential ticket, and 2.) she is likable and charming. She has this exuberant energy that attracts people to her. You know, black and brown women and girls finally have someone that looks like them running for the second-highest office in the land. That is huge!
"I also have to wonder if people have smartened up in the last four years and won't tolerate the…hypocrisy, sexism, and misogyny…in this case misogynoir that is thrown towards Senator Harris from the media, political pundits, social media bots, etc. So, what we are seeing with Trump and Fox News struggling to attack her is because…well…they just aren't smart. All we have seen from Trump in his attacks against her is that she was mean to Kavanaugh when questioning him during his nomination process. But none of what Trump says holds up because we all know that smart, confident women intimidate him," you finished off your point.
"There is also the left…or more of the progressive left who are unhappy with Biden choosing Harris," Chris spoke up and continued, "They say she is a cop and put people away for weed. That she took kids away from parents when the kid didn't show up for school. That Harris is too conservative. What do you say to that?"
"All of that is…you know…. Senator Harris one of the most policy progressive senators we have. Her voting record is more progressive than Bernie Sanders. All people have to do is research her time as a district attorney and Attorney General for California to find out what she actually did concerning policy. But as we both know, people nowadays don't know how to critically think, which scares me. Progressives need to look at the overall big picture. This election in November is crucial. We are in the fight for our democracy, for our country, and for our lives…literally."
"I talk with my brother, Scott, all the time about certain political issues," mentioned Chris. "He is a tad more progressive than I am. I can admit that I tend to be more centrist. The district you represent is a mix of blue and red areas; how do you balance opposing views from your constituents?"
You took in a deep breath before you answered. That was a loaded question. Representing a district that was not solely red, or blue could be difficult from time to time. You wanted to be respectful of the different viewpoints from constituents, but maintaining a neutral balance was hard and frustrating at times.
"The majority of Americans are centrist/moderates. You need a balance of both liberal and conservative policies. Bipartisanship is crucially important when developing and passing laws. We are currently seeing an overt of one-sidedness while sabotaging the other side, which is detrimental to our country's growth. It is important to reach across the aisle to talk with those who may have opposing views than you. At the end of the day, people just want to feel that their concerns are heard and valued. We all want to feel that way. So, as an elected official, I make sure to take the time to talk with those in rural areas, along with urban areas, about their issues and concerns," you shared.
"Do you ever get any pushback from Trump supporters in the red areas?" Chris inquired.
"Well, it is important to note that not all residents in rural areas are Trump supporters. They just tend to keep that to themselves. I have actually talked to Trump supporters in blue areas. We can never and should never assume that one area has this type of person and vice versa. I learned that the hard way when I was campaigning for city council early in my career," you revealed to Chris with a small chuckle. "But overall, my constituents will talk with me and have been respectful. Some of the concerns that have been shared with me do fall under the QAnon conspiracy theories, which do disturb me, I'll be honest. Um…when being confronted with someone who has that extreme of ideals, it is important to remain calm and not to come off combative. Meaning that I have to remind myself that I am not quite dealing with a rational person. The only thing that I can do is calmly talk to the person and respond back with facts. Either they listen or brush me off and call me a radical lefty."
"The majority of people are good, like you said," Chris reminded you.
"That's right. It's a good mantra to live by. I think the American people are tired and have been tired for the past four years with this Administration. We need a sense of normalcy and decency. Compassion and empathy, which were two of the big themes during the DNC. This week was a nice reminder that we, as a country, can have that again."
"I agree. Very well said. You always end on a positive. I appreciate that. Thank you, Congresswoman Y/L/N, for taking the time to talk with me. You always provide great insight into the world of politics and your experience as an elected official," said Chris and ended the recording. "That was really great, Y/N. I know Mark, and I really appreciate you taken the time to do these interviews for ASP," Chris added.
"Oh, it is no problem. Like I said before, I like what you both are doing with the site. Are you happy with how everything turned out?" you asked him.
"Yeah… it's…it took a while to just get the website up and running. I know there is still work that needs to be done. Some areas need to be fixed, but with a project like this, we can adjust. There is more room for improvement and growth," Chris communicated to you.
You nodded in agreement. "Politics is a whole different ballgame. Not many people are willing to venture into the field. It can cause a lot of annoyances and headaches. So, hats off to you, my friend," you said, giving Chris a salute.
"Thank you. Well, I better let you go. I know you must have a million things on your plate."
"Ah yes, I have to go and save the United States Postal Service from corruption. Talk to you later, Chris. Take care," you waved goodbye and signed off.
Chris had to admit, he was in awe of you. There was something about you that fascinated him. None of the elected officials he and Mark talked to for ASP had the liveliness you had. You were not jaded or defeated by the system, at least not yet, since you were still considered a junior member of congress. Chris hoped that the energy and enthusiasm you had for politics and helping people would not diminish. When his Uncle Mike was still a congressman, he shared with Chris that D.C. can cause a lot of strain on a person's values and beliefs. "I have seen too many of my colleagues succumb to the pressures of dirty politics," Uncle Mike once said.
Chris just hoped that you would not succumb to those pressures.

Ok so hear me out for a second.
There has been a lot of talk about impeachment the past couple days and I just want to try and clarify something
There are only two things set in stone as of right now, 12/21/19
1) the house has passed articles of impeachment against President trump
2) Nancy Pelosi has said she plans to withhold the articles of impeachment from the senate
That’s it. That’s where we’re at. Articles of impeachment have been passed, but not between hands. They’re now in constitutional limbo, stuck in between the house and the senate
So what happens next?
To answer that, take everything you’ve heard about how this impeachment will end. All the news pundits, news article spins, and direct words of our elected officials. Take all of that, and toss it out the gotdamn window
Because the simple fact is nobody knows what happens from here.
There are wayyyyyyy to many variables at play to even make a guess, let alone an educated guess. There is no historical precedent for the House of Representatives witholding articles of impeachment against a president from the senate. This has literally never happened in the 243 years the United States has existed. And while precedent dictates that the house turn over articles of impeachment immediately after being passed, precedent is not law. The constitution is what is law. And the constitution is horribly vague.
The constitution lays out the general rules for impeachment. It says that the house has the sole power of impeachment, and the senate has the sole power to try all impeachments. It says that a 2/3 vote is required in the senate to convict. And... that’s about it. It doesn’t say what needs to happen if the house refuses to turn over the articles. It doesn’t lay out a plan for an impartial or biased senate. The constitution was designed to be a guideline, not a goverment GPS that can hone in on specific situations and give you the directions on how to end them.
And because of this, we have TONS of unanswered questions about this very specific situation that we have never been in before.
Can the senate hold the trial without the articles? How long can Nancy hold on to the articles? Would a senate trial without the articles be legit or would it get tossed out? Has trump technically been impeached? Will the Supreme Court have to get involved before the trial even begins?
All of these questions can be classieifed under one of the biggest unknowns right now. What will the constitution allow? Constitutional scholars and law professors are doing their best to answer this question, but they simply cannot decide on what powers, exactly, the constitution grants, and to whom. They disagree with each other because the constitution can be interpreted in many different ways, and there is no historical rulings or situations to compare the current impeachment to.
Luckily, the judicial branch was created for this exact situation. They interpret the law, and it will most likely be up to them to decide who gets what powers and when they can be applied. But this route raises even more questions. Does the Supreme Court have the right to rule on what the house and senate can do? If so, how long will it take them to cast a ruling? They schedule out months in advance. Maybe they will prioritize it and will rule on it next week? Can a lower court chime in? Only time will answer these questions.
But don’t worry! There’s plenty of other layers and arguments to this impeachment process beyond just legal analysis. Impeachment is both a constitutional and a political process, and the politics of the situation are just as important as the legality of it.
Nancy’s decision to withold the articles has put the democrats and republicans in a political corner neither wants to be in. Both sides have everything to gain and everything to lose with this impeachment. Washington DC and our government quite literally hangs in the balance of power between republicans and democrats right now, and both sides are going to be playing their cards extremely carefully from here on out, afraid and unknown of what the other side will play, and what the effects of their actions will be.
If Mitch decides that not having a trial benefits him and trump, then he may simply accept that Nancy is holding the articles and say “ok, no trial is fine with me”, and political limbo ensues. He may want a trial tomorrow, because maybe he thinks that is what will benefit him and trump the most. Maybe his desire for a trial will override the leverage he holds by not having a trial. We just don’t know what action he will decide to take, or the effect his actions will have.
On the other hand, if Nancy can hold the articles indefinitely, does that give her the advantage of being able to secure a fair trial? Does she hold the articles so the house can continue to investigate? Her position, with the articles of impeachment pocketed and their release at her control, gives her a good bit of leverage. But will it be enough? And how will she use it?
The politics of the situation are far reaching and almost impossible to nail down. Each situation and analysis raises questions upon questions that we just don’t have the answers to. There are going to be debates, and people will tell you that what they say is true, but the simple fact is that nobody knows what the end result will be.
The only this that is assured, though, is that if either side misplays their hand over the next few weeks or even months, they could seriously damage their position leading into...
2020. Because this political cluster f**k doesn’t already have enough twists and turns in it.
We can’t forget that there is a presidential election in under a year. Primaries are supposed to start within the next few months, and our congress is locked in a battle over how they are going to put the president on trial. This elevates the impact the 2020 elections will have on impeachment, and vice versa.
Once again, there are hundreds of unanswered questions about how the 2020 elections will play in to this process, and how the impeachment process will play into the elections. I can rant on for hours about what if’s and possible scenarios, and each and every one has a possibility of coming true.
And the thing is... John Bolton could decide to testify tomorrow morning. Trump could tweet out later tonight that he wants to testify. The house could start drafting additional articles of impeachment. Mulvaney and Pompeo could resign. The senate could subpoena trump. Trump could resign. There are still hundreds of other variables that can be put into play that I haven’t even mentioned.
So. I know this was a lot. I know I just threw out a lot of different rhetorical questions and hypotheticals for what boils down to “we don’t know what will happen”. But the reason why I did this is to prove that absolutely nothing is set in stone, and that there is way too much going on to make a guess as to how this will end.
The next few steps in Donald trumps impeachment are breaking into new political and historical ground that this country hasn’t seen in a very long time, if ever. And it’s important for you and me and everyone else to remember that no matter what the news or your friends or even the president himself says, there are going to be unexpected twists and drastic turns. There are going to be moments that everybody saw coming, and there are going to be moments that nobody saw coming. We are wading through a political minefield while blindfolded, and the process of impeachment isn’t even halfway over. This could drag on for months. Or it could end tomorrow.
And, as of right now, the only thing that’s guaranteed is nothing

In 1889, on November 1 in Gotha, Germany Anna Therese Johanne Hoch, who later would be known as Hannah Hoch was born. Being the eldest of five children, the girl was brought up in a comfortable and quiet environment of the small town. Her parents, a supervisor in an insurance company and an amateur painter sent her to Girl’s High school. However, at the age of 15 Hannah had to quit studying for the long six years to take care of her newborn sister. Only in 1912 she continued her education with Harold Bengen in School of Applied Arts, mastering glass design. As the World War I broke up Hannah returned to the native town to work in the Red Cross. The first years after war the young woman recommenced her studying, getting to know graphic arts. 1915 was highlighted by an acquaintance with an Austrian artist Raoul Hausmann, which grew into the long-lasting romantic relationship and involvement in Berlin Dada movement. For ten years till 1926 Hoch worked in Berlin’s major publisher of newspapers and magazines. Her task was to design embroidering, knitting and crocheting patterns for the booklets. Being on vacation with her beloved in 1918, Hannah discovered ‘the principle of photomontage in cut-and-paste images that soldiers sent to their families’ (National gallery of Art). This find affected greatly on her artistic production, and she created mass-media photographs comprising the elements of photomontage and handwork patterns, thus combining traditional and modern culture. Her prior preoccupation was to represent the ‘new woman’ of the Weimar Republic with new social role and given freedoms. Hoch was the only woman in Berlin Dada, who took part in all kinds of events and exhibitions showcasing her socially critical works of art. Till 1931 she participated in exhibitions but with the rise of National Social regime was forbidden to present her creative work. Till her last breath in 1978 Hannah Hoch lived and worked in the outskirts of Berlin-Heiligensee. The piece of art which is going to be analyzed in this research is ‘The beautiful girl’ designed in 1919–1920. It combines the elements of technology and females. In the middle of the picture one can clearly see a woman dressed in a modern bathing suit with a light bulb on her head which probably serves as a sun umbrella. In the background a large advertisement with a woman’s hair-do on top is presented. Maud Lavin describes strange human as ‘she is part human, part machine, part commodity’ (Lavin). The woman is surrounded by the images of industrialization as tires, gears, signals and BMW logos. A woman’s profile with the cat eyes, untrusting and skeptical, in the upper right corner is eye-catching as well. This unusually large eye symbolizes DADA movement — a monocle, which is present in almost every Hoch’s work. The colour scheme does not offer rich palette of tints, including mostly black, white, orange and red pieces. The photo is surrounded by the BMW circles which add the spots of blue. An apt description of the piece is given in the book ‘Cut with the Kitchen Knife’ and states that it is ‘a portrait of a modern woman defined by signs of femininity, technology, media and advertising’ (Lavin). In other words Hannah Hoch focused on the woman of the new age, free and keeping up with the fast-moving world. The artist promoted feministic ideas and from her point of view urbanization and modern technologies were meant to give hope to woman to gain equality of genders. With this photomontage she commented on how the woman was expected to combine the role of a wife and mother with the role of a worker in the industrialized world. The light bulb instead of a face shows that women were perceived as unthinking machines which do not question their position and can be turned on or off at any time at man’s will. But at the same time they were to remain attractive to satisfy men’s needs. The watch is viewed as the representation of how quickly women are to adapt to the changes. In a nutshell, Hoch concentrated on two opposite visions of the modern woman: the one from the television screens — smoking, working, wearing sexy clothes, voting and the real one who remained being a housewife. The beautiful girl’ is an example of the art within the DADA movement. An artistic and literal current began in 1916 as the reaction to World War I and spread throughout Northern America and Europe. Every single convention was challenged and bourgeois society was scandalized. The Dadaists stated that over-valuing conformity, classism and nationalism among modern cultures led to horrors of the World War I. In other words, they rejected logic and reason and turned to irrationality, chaos and nonsense. The first DADA international Fair was organized in Berlin in 1920 exposing a shocking discontentment with military and German nationalism (Dada. A five minute history). Hannah Hoch was introduced to the world of DADA by Raoul Hausman who together with Kurt Schwitters, Piet Mondrian and Hans Richter was one of the influential artists in the movement. Hoch became the only German woman who referred to DADA. She managed to follow the general Dadaist aesthetic, but at the same time she surely and steadily incorporated a feminist philosophy. Her aim was to submit female equality within the canvass of other DADA’s conceptions. Though Hannah Hoch officially was a member of the movement, she never became the true one, because men saw her only as ‘a charming and gifted amateur artist’ (Lavin). Hans Richter, an unofficial spokesperson shared his opinion about the only woman in their community in the following words: ‘the girl who produced sandwiches, beer and coffee on a limited budget’ forgetting that she was among the few members with stable income. In spite of the gender oppressions, Hannah’s desire to convey her idea was never weakened. Difficulties only strengthened her and made her an outstanding artist. A note with these return words was found among her possessions: ‘None of these men were satisfied with just an ordinary woman. But neither were they included to abandon the (conventional) male/masculine morality toward the woman. Enlightened by Freud, in protest against the older generation. . . they all desired this ‘New Woman’ and her groundbreaking will to freedom. But — they more or less brutally rejected the notion that they, too, had to adopt new attitudes. . . This led to these truly Strinbergian dramas that typified the private lives of these men’ (Maloney). Hoch’s technique was characterized by fusing male and female parts of the body or bodies of females from different epochs — a ‘traditional’ woman and ‘modern’, liberated and free of sexual stereotypes one. What’s more, combining male and female parts, the female ones were always more distinctive and vibrant, while the male ones took their place in the background. Hannah created unique works of art experimenting with paintings, collages, graphic and photography. Her women were made from bits and pieces from dolls, mannequins of brides or children as these members of the society were not considered as valuable. Today Hannah Hoch is most associated with her famous photomontage ‘Cut with the kitchen knife DADA through the last Weimer Beer-Belly Cultural epoch of Germany’ (1919–1920). This piece of art highlights social confusion during the era of Weimar Republic, oppositionists and government radicals (Grabner). In spite of never being truly accepted by the rest of her society, this woman with a quiet voice managed to speak out loud her feministic message. Looking at Hannah Hoch’s art for the first time I found it confusing, because couldn’t comprehend the meaning. It was quite obvious that every single piece and structure is a symbol of the era, its ideas and beliefs. However, after having learned about her life and constant endeavors to declare about female’s right, little by little I started to realize what’s what. As an object for research I chose ‘The beautiful girl’ as, to my mind, its theme and message intersects with the modern tendency: a successful, clever, beautiful and free woman has to become one in no time, cause the world is moving faster and faster. I enjoyed working with this artist as her example is inspiring and is worth following.

he didn’t mean to be a fuck-up, but alas, his body was completed with error and corrupted by bad decisions. THE FIRST BEING  ━     his art. an adorable skill, at first. though, like a flower, it started to blossom into more than a childish hobby, and that was when they tried to uproot it from the ground. oh, how his family DESPISED his art ; oh, how fazil despised his FAMILY -- it was a mutual passage of hate. really, painting was the only thing he had ever felt ambition for, otherwise a foreign feeling to the sullied son. he could care less about doctorate programs, but it was the path he was set on since birth -- a forced burden he could NEVER get rid of.
he lived to reject everything his family represented; the happy-go-lucky, irresponsible, reckless boy mirrored the solemn and dignified imani clan. taking to extremes to separate himself from those around him, he dived head first into the deep end. he began to get involved with drugs -- and lots of them. cocaine, xanax, morphine, you name it   ━ all were party favors in the new york night life, those in which he was more than eager to dabble in. the feelings of euphoria that would shine down on him where storm clouds once reigned, the wide smile that would stretch across his face, and the body, that almost felt weightless. the highs they produced were those of which he could not experience on his own, and like a foolish wanderer, he followed them down a rabbit hole -- their effects so tantalizing even fazil could not resist. OF COURSE   ━  he could stop if he wanted, but what happens when the bleary-eyed teen refuses himself paradise? shivers, aches, pain so sickening it would spew from his mouth. no matter how much he didn’t want to admit it, he couldn’t stay away. it held him in a choke-hold, ever-so slowly draining his life.
the result of making an already irresponsible boy forget the bounds of consequence? a totaled ferrari and a DEATH-- no, no, no, fazil wasn’t prepared for that. an unforeseen causality in the war with his family. god -- his family, how ENRAGED they were, his father noting that he had wished it was fazil that was the one lying lifeless on the ground. a plan had to be put into place, NOTHING could ruin this family’s image; not fazil, and definitely not a murder. a cover up was devised, could you be surprised? the imani’s were saturated with money, and with money, bought ignorance. and to save face, he was booted out to live with his brother in maine, and made to attend CAPE CORAL. nasty habits die hard though, and fazil’s fought back, refusing to lie dormant. no way could he be sober now, but how do you maintain your ever-growing addiction? WELL  ━   it’s crazy what a last name and a forged signature can get you.
↪  *:✧ personality
on the outside fazil presents himself to be this happy-go-lucky, fun-loving guy. which, to an extent, he is. however especially since the accident he festers a LOT of shame, embarrassment, and remorse. he is so full of regret and it really does haunt him on how things went down.
as said, he has a lot of shame. not only for the accident, but also his addiction and how bad it is. he would absolutely hate anyone finding out about either of those, and would probably get really aggro with whoever did. especially if said person tried to take his drugs away or something of that nature?? would not be a happy camper.
speaking of, he cannot go without his drugs, and will literally do anything to obtain a high.
while he tries to reject his family, it does hurt him that he cannot appease them, insecure about the fact he really doesn’t live up to the family name.
on a happier note -- loves, loves, LOVES painting. really is one of the only positive things in his life, will gush on about it for days. if he shows you his art, he’d lowkey be so anxious for approval ( though he wouldn’t admit it ).
plant dad™ loves plants and the earth. if he sees you liter he WILL pummel you.
total flirt, has commitment issues and doesn’t realize it. kind of a fuck-boy but isn’t so brazen about...which is kind of worse?
in general, he’s a pretty laid back guy, doesn’t care too much about status. but really what you see is what you get, he will not let anyone past the front he puts on!
↪  *:✧ wanted connections
i want to say, first off, i am REALLY up for anything. pls feel free to throw any ideas my way i am sure we can work something out <3
best friend !! : someone that he just connects with more than everyone!! while he wouldn’t disclose much about his past, he’d probably let them in on more than he does with everyone else. and i mean lets be honest...there will be a point they find something out. imagine the angst....
someone he fools around with : i mean...im sorry he really is a fuckboy. he doesn’t mean to be though!! i think it’d be interesting to have someone he has a strong flirtationship with or something a little more ifyaknowwhatimsayin. i think it’d be cool for it eventually reach an unrequited love type of thing..whether that’s on his part or your muse. unless you just wanna keep it like they both kinda know what it is..and they’re both okay with leaving it like that. really up for whatever!
frenemies : yOU ALREADY KNOW!! the banter!!! the bickering!!! the annoying the hell out of each other!!! I WANT IT ALL
deep romantic connection : aka someone that really makes him tap into his feelings/emotions. really tests him as a person, and forces him to just really care?? this would be a slow burn thing but again....imagine the angst....
someone who knows/finds out about his secrets : this can tie into plots and doesn’t have to be just it’s own standalone ( if that makes sense ). but i think i’d really like someone just eventually figuring it out and kinda being like fazi ???  what are you doing ?? now this can come at an angle of concern OR maybe your character finds out somehow and hangs it over his head. I would also like to note that fazi came into the school randomly, showed up in the middle of the school year like nothing, and when asked about it he has a bullshit excuse. so mayhaps someone tries to really look into it and pesters him about it. and it makes him turn into the panic emoji
customer : someone he sells drugs to, which btw! would only be over the counter meds his father makes !! the harder drugs he buys himself for his own collection
anyhoot, that’s all i could think of rn but i’m sure i’ll add more in the future! and like i said, i am open to ANYTHING. please please hmu <3

Tumblr media
Dear Taylor,
A version of this has been in my drafts since the week Lover came out, and I’ve been alternating between too shy and too overwhelmed to post it, but I wanted to try and say something in honor of your 30th birthday, the astonishing year you’ve had, and the impact you’ve made on my life. (The photo is of things I received in a package from a fellow Swiftie, who sent me the deluxe version of the album - and the extra surprises! - because I couldn’t afford it myself, and that itself was remarkably kind and a testament to you - you’ve inspired so much goodness and generosity in others.)
Even if you’re, understandably, never able to see this, it’s honestly a blessing to think I can send this out into the universe. That's enough. Somehow I never knew that I could reach out on Tumblr until recently, or I likely would have said something to you many years ago (despite that overwhelming shyness). I wish I could be eloquent or imaginative in writing it (if I could be complex, if I could be cool!) instead of...an overemotional mess? I just wanted to take a moment to say thank you, for everything you've given to us in your music, everything you've given of yourself no matter how hard it's been, everything you've represented in your honesty, your displays of compassion and strength.
Music is the deepest passion and love of mine, it's the gossamer thread that's held me together in the worst times, the safe place where I could pour my heart and be myself. I'm a couple of years older than you are, though I generally feel behind these days because I've been chronically ill and mostly housebound since I was 19, and that halted my life and dreams in their tracks. The dream of truly honing my voice and my musical self was the most difficult to put away in the midst of all the others. It's often felt like being trapped in amber while the world keeps spinning, or like being a ghost, ostensibly drifting in the world, but nearly invisible to it, only occasionally peeking out of the windows to see the sun.
Ten years ago, I fell for a boy (still the only person I've ever felt that way about), and everything he was ended up being a lie and devolving into him gaslighting me and threatening my safety directly, along with breaking my heart. It took such a toll that I had to pull myself out of a harmful darkness, and he was a musician himself, so I had some terror that the experience with him had stolen or tainted that dearest part of my being. It hadn't, but the recovery took a while. One of the very first things that got me through it, that woke me up again, was being able to hold close to your first two albums. Those songs quite literally helped keep my heart beating, and then Speak Now helped it to heal. I’ve unfortunately never had the chance to see you live (the concert films are spectacular, though!), but your music became a part of the tapestry of my life from those first moments on. I've loved your work ever since then, but often quietly and tenderly, because it's near to such a delicate part of my spirit. It's vulnerable and personal, it's romantic and devastating, it’s starshine salvation when the world feels cold and clouded, and saying that is strange since those expressed emotions are fundamentally yours, but the way they transform into something both universal and specific is truly magical.
This year has been the worst and the darkest I've felt since that heartbreak ten years ago, though for very different reasons. My health took a serious turn for the worse. My beloved dog, who was my constant companion and my emotional support through every day of my illness for almost 13 years, succumbed to cancer. She was my sweet baby (I'm sure you understand this feeling with your precious kitties), and I still struggle with her absence daily. My mom and I are in the most precarious position we've ever been in financially, and we're looking at losing our condo with nowhere else to go. I've felt like everything is terrifying and tenuous and slipping away from me, including time itself. I apologize for even putting those burdens down in words, but if I don't, the weight of my thanks to you isn't as real. "Me!" came out only a couple of weeks after she passed away, and the pure happiness of it was the first bit of joy I'd even felt since she had relapsed. Then when you released “The Archer,” it moved me to the point that tears were streaming down my face when I first played it, feeling like I wake in the night, I pace like a ghost was transcribed from a cathartic place in my own thoughts. Knowing a new album was coming from you once again gave me something to look forward to, a reason to want to keep going, even when it hurt to breathe from missing her, even on days when my illness has been flaring too severely and painfully for me to get out of bed, I kept thinking...make it through to August, you have to hear Taylor's next album. Making it there felt like a minor miracle, and even though I’m scared and don’t know what’s ahead or what’s going to happen now, I am unbelievably glad that I was here to listen to your music, and then to witness your continued bravery, over the past few months. Laying that out in words on a screen sounds too small, but it's tremendous to me.
There are connections to each of your album releases that I could ramble about (Red would take several chapters of its own in my hypothetical novel, My Melodic Inclinations and Inspirations: An Autobiography), in their meaning to me and how much they represent in the pages of these passing years, but I realize how special Lover is to you specifically, and that's why now, more than ever, I wanted to be able to say how grateful I am for your poetic words, for your sweeping and intimate melodies, for your works of art. Hidden away in my room, I've sung-screamed your songs in delight at the top of my lungs, I've curled up under covers and cried to them, I've twirled around in pajamas with them. This is the first time I won't have my fluffy girl to hold on my lap and sing them to, but somehow that has made having new songs all the more treasured and cathartic. Lover is an absolutely exquisite, sparkling gift of an album. I cherish it as I do each of your albums, each for their own special reasons, and I will forever be thankful for all of your work.
I respect and admire you so much for the way you've stood your ground, the way you've championed what you believe in and spoken for equality and for artists’ rights, the grace with which you've approached everything you've been dealt in such a harsh spotlight. I can't fathom what that's like, but I am constantly proud of how you respond, your ability to both grow and remain authentic in expressing your views and truths. Exceptional artistry is worth celebrating (your Artist of the Decade and every other accolade is earned and deserved!), but being an exceptional person is even more worthwhile, and I believe you're both. When we say we stand with you, when we rally around you, I hope you remember that it’s out of not only that admiration and pride, but also rooted in genuine care and connected humanity. Our society needs bright, bold women, making changes and supporting one another. The world is lucky to have your beautiful songs, and your individual voice.
Thank you for creating such incredible things. Thank you for giving a valuable perspective to such a breadth of emotions. Thank you for giving your dazzling art so wholly. I hope you remember how much it means, how deeply it resonates, to so many people. I hope you remember that so many of us are in your corner with the brightest wishes, for your happiness and your freedom to be yourself, with prayers for you and your family and loved ones. I hope you know that your words have given some of us life rafts in swirling currents that threaten to drag us under, that your music has the ability to break through shadows with powerful light. There is a sacredness which exists in art that knits us together. Wherever I go, I'll carry your songs in my heart and soul.
Happy, happy Birthday!!! 🍰 🎈✨ It truly is the end of the decade, but the start of an age. May 30 be the beginning of brand new creativity and experiences, and even more wonder and daylight, golden on the horizon.
Love always,
Jess 💖💖💖

We need TP for our....
Y’all know how people tend to do the weirdest things when there’s an emergency or a sale? Yeah, you’ve seen the videos… don’t pretend you haven’t. Seeing people fight over the last $200 flat screen TV on Black Friday at Radio Shack always sort of reminds me of the Hunger Games.
Now, with the coronavirus going around there is a whole new subcategory of craziness. For example, apparently it is vital to our survival to stockpile rolls of toilet paper and canned beans. Why? Don’t ask. Just keep buying.
Tumblr media
I was browsing my favorite blog, Ask A Manager, the other day when – just as expected – the first COVID-19 questions started to appear. If you’ve never heard of AAM, by the way, I highly recommend you check out Alison’s blog. Aside from giving stellar interviewing and career advice (seriously, everything I know about applying and landing jobs, I learned from her!) she also offers advice on obscure workplace dilemmas such as what to do when your co-worker wants you to call her boyfriend her “master” at the company summer party, or what to do when your boss regularly pees in a cup and dumps it into the office kitchen sink. Yikes. I wonder if that could transmit COVID-19? Anyway…
I was reading her “Short Questions, Short Answers” column, and the first reader-sent dilemma for that day was: “My employee lied about being exposed to coronavirus”. Ouch. To quickly summarize, the employee lied about being exposed to COVID-19 while visiting family over the previous weekend, claiming also that a family member was infected and that a doctor performed testing, confirming the infection. The employer gave this employee time off to quarantine herself, paid her and generally did not make a big deal about it. Sounds pretty good so far.
But then, an HR representative of the company saw VACATION PICTURES (!!!) posted on Instagram by this employee. She basically called in, lied about testing positive for COVID-19, then forged a doctor’s note… and went on a paid vacation. When asked, the employee admitted to lying about it all to get the extra paid time off. Her manager, who sent in the question, was wondering if firing the employee is justified. Alison suggested, yes, absolutely.
To play devil’s advocate, part of me wants to say, “well, what was HR doing creeping on that employee?” but as it turns out, the employee was Instagram and Facebook friends with her colleagues. These same colleagues blew up her cover to HR, once it was clear she did not have COVID-19, but was instead playing hooky on an extended family trip.
Frankly, the question I can’t get out of my head is: why would someone scam their way into a paid vacation and then be so careless to post about it publicly? At this point in time, I truly can’t fathom a grown adult not realizing what repercussions a post on the internet can have. Imagine working somewhere for 4 years only to be fired for lying about being infected with the current pandemic of the world. Imagine explaining that to your family, friends and any future employers… C’mon.
Tumblr media
The second question in that column was also COVID-19 related. Apparently, the reader who sent in this question struggles with seasonal allergies due to pollen. Their coworker decided, since the virus is all around us, it would be a good idea to literally, directly spray another person with LYSOL. And so they did. I definitely didn’t do well in my high school chemistry class, but I’m almost certain that’s not how that works…
Although I am not buying into the panic, I do want to leave you with my three favorite tips for surviving the next few weeks.
1. Wash your hands
2. Avoid crowded places
3. Leave some toilet paper for the rest of us
If you have any additional suggestions, please leave me a comment or shoot me a direct message! And please, don’t start supermarket fights over toilet paper... Just don’t.

Here's my Hot Take™ on how Defenders of Tomorrow would go down (Pt.1)
-It would start out on earth with the cyberpunk aesthetic™ in a city named Arus
-Instead of the Garrison being a space exploration school, it would be like the main police force
-It's kind of like a cowboy bebop like universe, where the planets in the solar system are colonized and you can travel between them
-Each planet has a Representative, like a Planet President
-Earths Representative is Sam Holt (idk what his name is in the VDT universe tho)
-Aliens and humans live side by side/ aliens have already been introduced to earth and all the other planets
-The Galra are still aliens but the Galra empire is a gang simply called 'The Empire'
- Daibazaal and Altea were both planets in the same solar system
-All the paladins of old were a representive for a planet in their collective solar system
-Alfor was Altea's representative and Zarkon was Daibazaal's obv
-Quintessence is a power drug that was created by Honerva (don't know her VDT name) who was Vice President of Altea, once she married zarkon she became Vice President of Daibazaal
-Alfor and Zarkon got into a dispute over the production and sales of quintessence and a civil war broke out between the planets of the solar system
-Alfor and Honvera became addicted to quintessence over this time
-Alfor won the civil war against Zarkon and Daibazaal was banished from solar system
-Zarkon gathered together all the remaining galran after being banished and banded them together to take over altea
-Altea and the remaining planets in the solar system were taken over and destroyed by a quintessence powered up drugged Zarkon
-There's no 10,000 year time skip but there is 18-19 year time gap between current and these events
-Before altea was destroyed Vex (VDT Coran) and Alzina (VDT Allura) were sent out into space on the Castle ship which they title castle of lions. Alzina was a baby at this time
-Zarkon and Honvera (now calling herself by her gang name Haggar) build up a gang that specializes in quintessence
-Their industry has taken over the underground of tons of solar systems
-Vex pilots the ship to Earths solar system after hearing the Empire hadn't reached there yet and they land on earth
-Vex raises Alzina on earth yet they still live out of the castle ship
-Vex and Alzina know they're aliens in my take
-They both live on the down low bc they don't want to be discovered as alteans, as the whole universe knows about the Altean civil war and Vex and Alzina don't want word to spread to zarkon about them being alive
-Alzina is a badass who works in the underground as a chemist
-Alzina is the one who starts the paladin name system, she uses the name Pink Paladin while interacting in the public as to not reveal her identity
-Alzina still has her good morals and does her fair share of bounty hunting as well
-Alzina is bi
-The Empire catches word that there's an untapped quintessence potential in Earths solar system and decides to head there to take over the underground
-Shiro is a high ranked officer at the Garrison and is sent out on a mission to Kerberos (which hasn't been colonized yet) along with Matt Holt (don't know his VDT name) and Sam Holt to inspect Kerberos and determine if it should be colonized
-Shiro is gay obv
-Pluto is a mining planet in this btw, no one lives there full time
-While on the mission to Kerberos the galra capture them in hopes to use them as bargaining tools
-there is a one year time skip between when Shiro and the others were captured to the current time the au takes place in btw
-The Empire begins to take over the underground of the other planets in Earth's solar system during this time
-Akira (Keith) was a garrison student in training under Shiro's guidance but dropped out after Shiro was taken to look for him in the underground
-I've been saying underground a lot and I want y'all to know I don't literally mean underground the planets but like the crime land, the black market y'all kno
-Krolia (idk VDT name) was part of a rival gang to the Empire called the Blade of Marmora. Krolia was still a spy in this
-Krolia has Akira and Alice (VDT Acxa) with Texas kogane before going back to the Blade bringing Alice with her (they're twins)
-Texas was killed in the underground and Akira was abandoned
-Akira was adopted by Shiro and put in the Garrison. Akira and Shiro had a beyond close bond and loved each other v much
-Akira is gay
-Akira didn't care about what shit he fucked up, he only cared about finding Shiro so he was p reckless but he wasn't like intentionally hurting people
-Akira obvs had a motorcycle
-Leandro (Lance) was a garrison drop out who decided that the police force was 'too tame' for him
-Leandro works as basically a full on bounty hunter by the name 'The Tailor', he also steals occasionally and also isn't worried about being reckless but he still cares about people
-Leandro is Bi
-One time Leandro was in a fight and was about to lose when Akira showed up in a motorcycle to save him last minute
-Akira and Leandro didn't know each other at this time but Leandro swore he would repay Akira if the day ever came when he needed help
-Leandro doesn't know Akira's name at this point, but he nicknames him Samurai after seeing Akira fight with a knife
-Akira also doesn't know Leandro's real name but Leandro introduced himself as the tailor when they first met
-Leandro does end up getting Akira out of a tough situation and the two make it their thing to save each other
-Henare (Hunk) was a garrison student as well but he never dropped out and planned to work for the police
-Henare and Leandro were best friends from when Leandro spent a short time at the garrison. They never lost their bond but Henare doesn't approve of what Leandro is doing, but he wouldn't ever rat out his friend
-Henare is Pansexual
-Bounty hunting/Vigilante action is kinda illegal in this world. Instead of turning in their bounties to the police for reward, bounty hunters catches are sold underground
-Laya (Pidge) is an engineer/hacker and overall genius who despite growing up with a Garrison dedicated family loved messing around and would often venture to the underground and black market with Matt to buy new parts for robots and to get up to schenagines
-After Matt and Sam went missing she changed her name to Pana and went underground full time in the hopes of finding him (she done pull an Akira)
-Pana sells information and robots to the blackmarket and works as a kind of an on call hacker
-Pana is asexual
-Pana became friends with Leandro after she makes a deal that goes sour and Leandro comes in last minute and takes the guy out
-Leandro notices how young Pana is and makes sure to keep an eye out from then on out and realizing he won't go away Pana begins to work with him in hopes of information on Matt.
-Pana ends up actually caring about him and the two take on a brother-sister kinda role though she won't admit it
-Pana becomes friends with Henare through Leandro and the two instantly bond over their love of engineering
-Pana builds rover when she first went to live in the underground full time to keep her company and rover is like her lil sidekick aw
-Shiro lives within the Empire for a year and when the Empire let's their guard down, Shiro is able to grab a small pod like ship and high tails it back to earth
-He crash lands on earth in the desert outside of Arus
-Shiro lost an arm while in the Empire in this as well and when he crash lands he damages his leg beyond repair
- Dante (VDT Adam) will build Shiro a new arm and leg and they'll bond and end up dating
- Pana, Leandro and Henare will get together with Akira when saving Shiro from the crash
-Alzina and Vex will get together with everyone else during a fight
-Alice will have been seperated from Krolia and will have joined up with Lotor and the generals
-Lotor broke away from his parents will have arranged a mini gang with the generals to go against the Empire
-Alzina and the crew will build fighter ships which they'll name blue lion, red lion, yellow line, green lion and black lion (yes the lions are fighter ships in this)
-The galra will come to take over and the the team including Dante will fight back.
-They call themselves the paladins and each name themselves after a color
-they'll call their whole operation voltron
-Rowan (Romelle) will be one of the alteans that was born off altea as her parents were off planet when it was destroyed. Lotor offers her and other alteans the opportunity to join his mini gang and she takes it. She works with lotor for awhile but leaves after believing he's not what he says he is.
-She goes to earth to escape him and the Empire and ends up meeting the rest of the gang
-Her and Alzina eventually become a thing
-And y'all already know leakira is happening
That's it that's all I have I can't think of anything else

EPISODE 19
“We all know Homer pretty well, and his outburst this afternoon sort of bothers us. He said things I’m sure he didn’t mean--but still, he did touch on what’s worrying all of us. Just what are our chances, really, of getting to Iscandar and returning to Earth with the Cosmo DNA?” -- Mark Venture
This is the last of the smaller, more personal episodes that make up the spine of the middle section of the first series of STAR BLAZERS, and it’s a good example of how the human drama was just as important, if not more important, than the space battles and pyrotechnics in the success of the show. Once again, it’s a bit blunted from its source material, but it still packs an emotional wallop, and is about greater considerations concerning faith and hope and fortitude than any other show during this time period was delivering.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The episode opens by immediately establishing its point of human drama. Homer, the Star Force’s communications officer, is at his wits’ end, and so he goes to visit Doctor Sane. He complains of a constant ringing in his ears, and he can’t eat or sleep. Recognizing the twin signs of homesickness and stress from being cooped up aboard ship for several months, Dr. Sane recommends a session in the Holography Room, a concept that had been set up in one of the earliest episodes of the show, but not touched upon since.
This was more than a decade before STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION made the Holodeck a recurring locale and plot point of its series, and it functioned in much the same way. Nova projects Holography Tapes that Homer recorded before the ship left Earth, reconstructing Homer’s home town. (Presumably, these films were made before the Gamilon bombing, as they seem to be taking place on the tranquil surface.) But when Homer sees his elderly mother gathering wood, he has a full-on emotional breakdown. Nova is mystified as to what is going on with him.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Part of Homer’s stress, it seems, may be due to a new development. Under mysterious circumstances, and despite now being 70,000 light years from Earth, the Star Force has discovered that it can once again communicate with its home planet. It’s a source of much joy among the crew as the recovering Captain Avatar calls in to Earth Defense Headquarters to update them on the Star Force’s mission (In YAMATO, a number of specific details are listed that STAR BLAZERS omits, such as the fact that their mission is presently 51 days and 61,000 light years behind special, but that by warping twice a day for a distance of 1,200 light years each time, he believes they can be back on Earth in 152 more days.) but some uncertainty to, as the crew becomes aware of just how bad conditions are currently on Earth.
Adding to this, Homer bursts into the room and has a full-on meltdown: “You’re all a bunch of idiots listening to that! What are you all doing here? Do you like being fooled? Don’t you realize no one here knows anything at all about where we’re going? Captain, have you ever been to Iscandar? Every space warp takes us further into the dark unknown! We’re on a fool’s errand, and Gamilon is waiting, and waiting, and waiting! They know all about space! They’re playing with us! They let us go a little ways, then pounce! Like a cat with a mouse! You don’t know how bad things are on Earth! They won’t tell you!” It’s a tour de force performance by Homer’s voice actor. When Captain Avatar asks Homer about the source of his information, the communications officer hyperventilates and passes out.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Morale continues to break down for the Star Force crew that evening, when Captain Avatar invites the senior staff to dinner, to thank them for their assistance during his recovery period. Rattled by Homer’s outburst, Mark Venture takes the opportunity to voice what is running through everybody’s minds at this point: is Homer right? Is their mission to save Earth doomed? What, really, are their chances of success, alone against an overwhelmingly more powerful enemy force? STAR BLAZERS makes an interesting and positive choice here, to eliminate the upbeat cut of music that plays over Venture’s monologue in the YAMATO episode. It’s one of the few times that I can think of where the American show drops music from the soundtrack--but it lends a greater sense of weight to venture’s question.
It falls to Captain Avatar to try to put the crew’s mind at ease, even while he must be holding some of the same misgivings himself: “Venture, we’ve come this far together. It’s true we don’t know what lies ahead, but no one knows tomorrow. There are no guarantees. We know we’ve been entrusted with the life of Earth. Only the Star Force can save Earth. To do that, we must believe in a future for all of us. To do our job today. If we don’t, we’re lost. Earth is lost.” The rest of the meal passes in silence.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
At this point, as they did a few episodes ago, the production team on STAR BLAZERS chooses to shuffle a few scenes from the source material, to more clearly convey what is going on. So at this point we cut (with a bad slice on the music cue) to Balan, where an aide reports to General Lysis that their communications relay satellite is allowing the Star Force to contact Earth, and that this is all a psy-ops strategy to destroy the morale of the crew (while also gathering intel about the Star Force, I’d assume.) In YAMATO, this scene doesn’t show up until much later.
As the previous music cue fades up again, we see Homer awaken in the middle of the night and make his way down to the communications room, dismissing the crewman who is on station there. With nobody else around, he contacts Earth--and specifically, the home of his elderly parents. He’s been doing this routinely, we learn--and his father is extremely ill.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Actually, he’s quite a bit more than ill, but STAR BLAZERS cuts out the harshest portions of this next bit from YAMATO, as Homer’s mother tells him that Food is growing scarce and that riots have become a daily danger in the underground cities. In order to provide for his wife, Homer’s father went out into one of the riots to secure them food, and was terribly injured as a result. (STAR BLAZERS chalks up his conditions to fatigue from having worked so hard to build the underground cities.)
As his mother turns the viewscreen to the bed in which her husband lies, so that he can see his son Homer one last time, Homer’s father tells him to get back to Earth, that his mother needs him--and then he dies. Again, STAR BLAZERS conceals this death, having him simply pass our--but you can see the sheet covering his face in the very last shot in this sequence, as Homer turns to discover that Wildstar has learned his secret. Almost insane, Homer bolts from the room.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Homer races to the bridge where, for some reason, Venture is the only one on duty, piloting the Argo. Homer begs Venture to turn the ship around: “Venture, we’ve got to get back to Earth! Turn around! It’s not too late yet! Please! I’ve been talking to Earth! My family--my father’s sick! My mother--s-she cried! Look, I’m begging you! We’re never gonna make it! Turn back!” Again here, Homer’s voice performer really sells the genuineness of the moment. But it’s to no avail--Venture will not chance course, and so Homer races out again, just steps ahead of Wildstar, who’s been pursuing him.
The pair call down to Conroy on the flight deck, who saw him creeping around near the space suit lockers. YAMATO provides a bit of ill-timed fan service at this point, as Nova comes out of her room in her nightgown. She was looking out of the porthole in her cabin and saw Homer drift past, scaring the hell out of her. From here, we get a wonderful shot of the very end of the standard Argo fly-by, with Homer left in its wake, trying vainly to swim through space back home.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is the point in YAMATO where the narrative switches to Balan and General Lysis explains about the communications satellite he’s set up to follow the Argo and allow them to communicate with Earth. STAR BLAZERS instead has another rough music cut as the Argo, amazingly, comes to a halt and the Black Tiger squadron is dispatched to fly a search patrol for their missing crewman. It’s a very human gesture, but given that the fate of all mankind is at stake, it’s a bit astonishing that the Star Force puts the mission on hold this way.
Meanwhile, Homer is floating through space, experiencing a full-on nervous breakdown. He hallucinates the Earth in the distance and half-passes out trying to reach it. Amazingly, he floats crash-bang into the relay satellite that’s been following the ship. It’s a pretty huge stretch given the size of space (and the fact that STAR BLAZERS never establishes that the relay satellite is literally trailing the Argo) but we’ll go ahead and give it to them. Recognizing the satellite for what it is, Homer realizes the implication and the danger to the Star Force that it represents. But he has no way to contact them. (You might think that, being the communications officer, he could use this enormous transmitter he’s sitting on to send them a message. But no such luck.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Fortunately for Homer, Wildstar comes across him just a few minutes later. Now snapped back to reality by his discovery of the relay satellite (YAMATO spends a few seconds and some repeated footage in making Homer’s sudden recuperation feel more earned) Homer tells Widstar what the satellite is all about, and they destroy it using the guns in Wildstar’s fighter.
Communication with Earth is now once more cut off, but perhaps that’s for the best. “Our next message, we’ll be on our way home, “ says Homer, “with good news from Iscandar!” It’s quite a turn-around for the young officer, whose language almost makes him seem a bit Born Again. But it makes for an upbeat ending, and that’s what’s called for her. As the pair and the rest of the rescue team returns to the Argo, narration tells us that there are still only 255 days remaining for all life on Earth, so the mission must go on!

1-50 do it if you dare
ohoho challenge accepted
(also i love you omg how did you know i love to talk about myself)
(most of them under the cut bc I don’t want everyone to hate me lol)
1.What made you start writing?
My teachers always said I was good at it and tbh I’ve always made up stories with like dolls or stuffed animals or whatever
2. How old were you when you started writing?
I was 12 when I started my first novel (and that’s still the only novel I’ve ever finished, how about that)
3. What was the first story you ever wrote about?
That first novel is what I’ll count, it was basically self-insert Merlin fanfiction before I knew what fanfiction was, and I changed all the names so nobody would be any the wiser
4. What’s your favorite genre?
I’m really into modern fantasy at the moment, like anything mystical set in modern day I love
5. What’s your least favorite genre?
I can’t do hard sci-fi, I wish I could but it’s too much for me
6. What’s your biggest strength as a writer?
Probably dialogue? I write a lot of scripts where dialogue is the only thing that really matters so I work on that the most
7. What’s your biggest weakness as a writer?
SETTING DESCRIPTIONS nobody knows what anything looks like anywhere and I’m so sorry
8. What writing projects are you currently working on?
I’m waiting for NaNo to start so I can get working on They Met in a Cafe, which is about an art thief who falls in love with the journalist who’s been writing about him
9. Who’s your favorite author?
I think I have to say Tolkien, he was just so iconic
10. Who’s your least favorite author?
Cassandra Clare.
11. What’s your favorite book?
The Professionals by Owen Laukkanen (it’s so good)
12. What’s your least favorite book?
This book called Best Served Cold by Joe Abercrombie, it took me so long to read and it wanted to be Game of Thrones so badly but it just wasn’t
13. What’s your favorite trope?
MUTUAL PINING (gets me every time)
14. What’s your least favorite trope?
Enemies to lovers (unless done really well) doesn’t always sit well with me, but I know that’s a popular one on here
15. Have you ever gotten anything published?
I don’t think so lol writing is very much just a hobby for me
16. Do you prefer to type or write by hand?
Type, I can write much faster and closer to the speed of my thoughts lol
17. What’s your favorite literary magazine?
I uh…don’t have one
18. Are there any topics you don’t feel comfortable writing about?
Yeahhh nothing too graphic (in terms of torture, sex, death, etc.) I keep it fairly PG-13 except for swearing haha
19. Where do you get your inspiration from?
Literally everywhere, I’ve never had an original thought in my life
20. Do you prefer to write fiction or poetry?
Fiction, I am so bad at writing poetry
21. How long is the stuff you usually write?
Usually I give up around 15-20k into a story, which is unfortunate
22. How do you deal with writer’s block?
I either take a break from writing as long as I can, or I outline the scene as best as I can until I start getting ideas for how to write the actual scene
23. Have you ever taken any creative writing classes?
None specifically dedicated to creative writing, just the general high school ones
24. Which of your characters has the most in common with you?
Of my current characters, definitely Cam from Descendants of the Earth, he is so soft and loves his friends so much and that’s just me af
25. Who is your favorite character you’ve written about?
I loved my character Colin from my first novel, Stay True, writing him just made me really happy (I think because at the time I was obsessed with Merlin, and he was the Merlin in my story lol)
26. Who is your favorite fictional character in general?
I would die for Samwise Gamgee but he would never let me
27. What time of day do you usually write?
I’m trying to get in the habit of writing in the morning on the bus, but it’s usually in the evening when I should be doing homework
28. How much planning and/or research do you do before you start writing?
Usually none at all, I just make stuff up, but for Cafe I’m actually doing a lot of research bc art history is fascinating and I want to represent cystic fibrosis accurately
29. What writing related accomplishment are you the most proud of?
I think the fact that I actually won NaNo last year while also being a college student
30. Have you ever dreamt about your characters?
No but I wish I could omg
31. What is your ideal writing environment?
In my bed, under a blanket, computer on my lap, nobody else in the house bothering me haha
32. Which published book do you wish you had written?
The Forbidden Game (by L.J. Smith), that book influenced my writing style so much and I love it a lot
33. Which themes do you like to write about the most?
I think I do a lot of found family/ragtag group of friends stuff, and happy endings for everyone who deserves one
34. What is the best advice you have for a beginning writer?
Literally just write. And it will suck and you won’t like to read it. But it’s so much fun if you just do what you love and enjoy it while it’s happening.
35. What is the worst writing advice you’ve ever heard?
Idk I try to avoid most writing advice, probably just anything that says “never” write something in particular because like….that’s ridiculous
36. Do you prefer pens or pencils?
Pens! I worry about pencil smearing.
37. What traits do your protagonists usually have?
They’re usually stale cinnamon rolls, like they used to be so happy and pure and now they’re cynical and tired. And everyone is so sarcastic, because thats how I am
38. What is your ultimate writing goal?
I would love to be traditionally published someday, but I don’t see that happening anytime soon if ever
39. What is the weirdest thing you’ve ever written about?
The weirdest thing I actually tried to turn into a full novel was this series about a group of girls who each had different supernatural things happen to them (one was selected to be a fairy princess, one had the power to manipulate fate, one was the daughter of Hades, and one could go back in time)
That actually sounds really cool summed up like that but…it was middle school, it was not good
40. What is the most random fact you’ve ever learned while doing research for a story?
I just recently learned that having cystic fibrosis makes your skin taste salty, so that’s a thing
41. What would you do if you were suddenly teleported into your WIP?
Hug the heck outta Leo (he needs all the hugs) and also try to join the heist crew lol
42. How many drafts do you usually go through before you finish a piece?
One and a half, I’ve never edited a damn thing in my life lol but I do usually do a read-through after it’s finished and fix some things that I don’t like before calling it good
43. Has your writing ever made you cry?
Not as such, but I’ve made myself really sad while writing Voice of Treason (which is a feature film, not a novel)
44. Would you rather have your WIP adapted into a movie or TV show?
Lol well since Cafe is based on a book within a movie I produced, I have to say that I’d want it made into a movie
It would also make a good movie tbh
45. Where do you share your writing?
Only on here, and I post finished (or close to finished) things on Wattpad
46. What’s your favorite line of your current WIP?
Well I’ve only got the one small section so far, but I really like this line.
She laughed softly, her warm, coffee-stained breath fanning across his face.
47. What’s the first sentence of your WIP?
Currently it’s “Leo nervously slid into the coffee shop, glancing behind him” but that’s subject to change once NaNo starts
48. What’s the last sentence you wrote?
It was actually for DotE, and it was “Logan watched and laughed, grateful to be invited into the fun despite declining the offer.”
49. What inspired you to write your WIP?
This is actually my favorite question. So I worked on this movie two years ago with these dumb guys, and within the movie there was the character of this writer girl, and she was writing a book called “They Met in a Cafe” and throughout the movie you see her acting out these scenes from the book with her imagination, which takes the form of this cute guy (it was not a good movie lol)
Anyway I decided to take those scenes and basically write the book that she was trying to write in the film, but I’m gonna make it make sense and it’s gonna be so good (hopefully)
50. What’s your favorite thing about your WIP?
I love the whole concept of it, it really just appeals to my silly romantic sensibilities as well as my fascination with art and history in general, I just think it’s really fun
THANK YOU FOR ALL THESE QUESTIONS!! I literally love talking about myself so much and I was in such a bad mood bc my roommate has people over but this made me feel so much better so thank you

My adviser requested for pictures, along with a letter from my parents in what they believed the worth of the automobile was, closed saying it was a gift. They reported within the notice they settled $6000 for this 8 years back. We were never advised to acquire the automobile appraised, or that people had to keep up on examining to see when the value had opted up so we could alter our coverage. Do any one of you've on how I will obtain the insurance provider to give all of the income to me any advice? Is there anything I will do at-all? Thanks therefore much!" "Just how much less will my auto insurance be once 25 switch? I understand you're deemed in a lesser-risk age group so your car insurance will soon be less but how is this reduction calculated by insurance providers? Whats the cheapest insurance on the market? whats the cheapest insurance outthere for a 1998 Pontiac grand prix!! Is really a Honda Civic pricey to insure? I am looking into purchasing myself my first automobile. Dreaming about a newer applied. I've been asking a number of my buddies by what car I should get, and the Honda Civic has been claimed by several. Nevertheless not one of them possess this auto themselves (many said whenever they can go back & change this they would.) But what I'm thinking can it be expensive to have insurance for?? I've seen yes & no, so Iam merely confused!! Thankyou!" Health insurance HELLLLLLPPPP please? I was recently on my fathers health insurance and now that i have turned 18 i cannot be on it anymore, i have a good job and make a decent amount but not enough to cover like $100 or more a month, due to my car payment and other bills i have, does anyone know what i should do? or what a good health insurance company is? that can help me... thanks for all the help! Congratulations, KAITLIN! You’ve been accepted for the role of JULIANA with an FC change to ZOE BARNARD. Admin Rosey: I think we all know how much I treasure Juliana. She’s my little principessa and my heart. Which is why choosing between the applications literally had me sweating because they all represented such distinct aspects of her. But Kaitlin you provided something that I don’t often think of when looking at Juliana: a spine of steel. I thought it was one made of flowery vines, but you’ve convinced me that it is a spine of metal, capable of producing thorns while glinting with jewls. It’s because of this, I have entrusted my daughter to you.. Please read over the checklist and send in your blog within 24 hours.
WELCOME TO THE MOB.

In Character
Character | Juliet; Juliana Rosetta Capulet.
What drew you to this character? | I’m not exactly sure what caught my eye about Juliana two years ago, I could probably find my old application and try and figure it out again, but without doing so, what first broke my heart were the choice of words bolded, the words that you saw fit to emphasize. The words that make Juliana who she is. Thrive. Ghost. Onlooker. Helplessness. Obsession. Lamented. Saint. Blood. Symbol. Succumbing. Love. These words are a patchwork quilt of heartbreak and home building, of a life simultaneously ruined and still being built.  She is built from ghosts, trying to stand on her own two feet while trying to balance who she was as a girl with who she feels she must now be as a woman. An onlooker to her own life, she’s both in control and out of it, toying with this feeling of helplessness, and wondering if the control she’s taken to get her father’s attention, to get her freedom, is all worth it. She’s a saint with blood in her future, a symbol of love and loss and light, and all the ways the dark threatens those things.
I’ve never favored girls who are put together. Call me a cliché if you like, but my female muses are an assortment of messes, girls who bear their teeth so they might hide their heart without the world realizing, girls who hide behind a string of lovers because they are terrified of love, girls who burn so brightly they threaten to consume–I’ve never been a fan of the sort of muses who are prim and proper and expect the world to lay itself at her feet without even having to ask.
So at first glance, I’m sometimes surprised that I adore Juliana the way that I do. Or at the very least, that I gave her the time of day to sit and think about her. But I did, and boy is she a mess in her Chanel.
(I actually think she favors the likes of Gucci or Dolce & Gabbana, all bold prints and daring colors with crisp lines, but that’s besides the point).
At first glance, Juliana is every inch the perfect princess that one might expect from Juliet, at least the Juliet from the beginning of the play. As a child she is spoiled, both with material objects and with love. But she was young when her mother died, and for all that her father loved his daughter, he employed his grief tenfold when it came to protecting her. He caged her away, kept her hidden and protected and I think in many ways, this has ruined her.
Juliana is a collection of fatal flaws.
Her love for her father, her desperate, unending love for him, has made her unable to fully recognize that the darkness she was afraid might taint him has already dragged him down. Not even that it dragged him down, that rather he stepped into the abyss without so much as a look back to check on his daughter. She loves her cousin, her darling Tibby, who is cruel and violent and knew the taste of ruin before he’d learned how to walk, who spit on the Montague name before he’d even heard that he was supposed to–she loves him, with a fervor equal to that anger which he directs at the world. The Tiger of Verona, they call him, but she still sees the boy who rode his bike behind her down to the river, groaning and grumbling the whole way, but protecting her all the same. She loves all her people, would die for each and every one of them if there was a call to action that required such a sacrifice.
But love and loyalty are not her only sins–that same father that built her a gilded cage taught her pride, taught her to believe in herself even when he didn’t speak to her. Even when she felt like she wasn’t enough for him, her pride turned itself into a deadly thing. Double edged and sharp as the tip of a blade, her pride is simultaneously unshakeable and unfound. A creature that thrives on attention and love, she can sometimes crumble into herself with a lack of it.
She is loyal, and it has made her blind. She’s been put on a pedestal and it’s made her pride deadly, a corrosive thing that threatens to turn her blood from ichor to mere iron. She is curious, and it is going to put her 10 feet under.
She is an innocent in a world where innocence does not fare well.
I’m curious to see which hamartia, if any of them, will prove her downfall. After all, the best fatal flaws are the ones that are good in moderation. Loyalty with clarity of vision. Pride without hubris. Curiosity with care.
In Juliana, there’s something tragic. In Juliana, there is something magic. And that’s the kind of character any writer would be fascinated with, at least in my book.
Does she have the ability to find balance? Here’s hoping.
(Or not–we need to keep things interesting, after all).
What is a future plot idea you have in mind for the character? | For starters, I think Juliana is one of those wonderful characters that’s caught in an in-between. She’s in a transitory stage, with her fate hanging so precariously in the balance. She’s been afforded the opportunity to break from the chains of her innocence, but she’s also beginning to wonder if perhaps her lily-white hands were not so much a chain but a blessing. And she is wondering that about a great deal of her life, and I am watching and wondering myself which branch of her fate she will choose to walk down.
Here are some paths for her to choose, though I am certainly someone who thrives better when I have other characters to plot with.
(Which, coincidentally, will be another interesting concept to consider with Juliana. Lovely, lonely Juliana, who has been caged and sheltered and only recently brought into the fold of violence that bedecks her father’s hallowed halls, does not know so intimately the men who populate her father’s ranks. She is not overly privy to their personalities, and she is less than friends with a great deal of them. They respect her, to a degree, being the boss’s daughter they must, but she does not know them. She is coming to, slowly but surely understanding her people, and I’m interested to see how someone so isolated will fare in this sea of people).
Okay, tangents aside, some plots. (Sidenote: These are all fairly independent, and some can happen simultaneously where others are branches that, once started down, mean she wouldn’t be able to go down others. It really depends on fellow muns).
FOR KING & COUNTRY. One of Juliana’s guiding lights has always been fidelity, almost as much as love has been; for those whom she loves are those who inspire loyalty within her. It’s said right there in her biography, that she adhered to the commandments her father set forth the way any disciple ought to. It’s a hard line to draw though, where she ought to direct her loyalty and her love. I think this is one of the things about Juliana that appeals to me, that she is such a slave to her love, and at the moment her love for her father and for her country are in line. At the moment, she believes that her father is leading their people the way he ought to (or, at the very least, the best and only way he knows how), and that the blood and ichor spilled are ruinous but have not ruined them yet. But what happens when she reaches that limit? What happens if she comes to the conclusion that Verona is ruled by a gilded elite, one that needs to spill the blood of those lower than them just so she might continue to sit upon a poisoned throne? What happens when a king is not ruling the country, but killing it? What, pray tell, is a princess to do then?
THERE WILL BE BLOOD. Juliana has let the iron into her soul, has tasted darkness and been left hungry; there’s no doubt about that any longer. She shadows the Great Cosimo Capulet, striding through the halls of the Cathedral, and she finds herself intimately familiar with the coppery taste of air tainted by spilled blood, knows what it is to feel the buck of a glock 19 in her hands, and yet. Juliana is bedecked in innocence painted red, a tender-hearted girl with violence at her fingertips, but for all that the violence has been exposed to her, so has her father. It’s a hard thing, reconciling the man who once tucked her into bed at night, a soft kiss pressed to her temple, with the man whispered about among the masses. And those whispers? They speak of the death of innocence. They speak of the cold-blooded, hard-hearted murder of an underboss across the bridge. They speak of a son taking his place as leader of the family too soon and a daughter with pearls in her eyes and kindness woven with steel in her spine. They speak of an unjust loss, and they say it was her father who dared pull the trigger, if not by his own hand then by his order. Juliana is under no illusions; she sees the darkness in her father, sees it leaking into her own heart and threatening to turn her body towards rot, but to think of her father as someone who would underhandedly cross the border into Montague territory to have Alvise Vernon murdered is different from recognizing her father as someone engaged in a battle for power, as someone who kills those who dare cross the Castelvecchio into Capulet territory. She’s not sure though either way if the whispers are true, and that scares her.
ROMAN HOLIDAY. I find the potential connection between Roman and Juliana quite fascinating. You may call me a cliche all that you like, but it’s not even a romantic connection that I seek between the two. It’s a strange thing, but I honestly couldn’t care less about romance when it comes to Juliana’s future–if anything, I’d prefer to see her learn how to love herself, darkness and all, before she falls in love. But quick tangent aside, Roman and Juliana have been left broken and wanting in their lives, and then were taught to fill the void in completely different ways. Both, though, still have that ache sitting in their chest, turning their hearts towards ruin. Roman turned his towards the mob, allowed the wild, brutal thing to be equally as brutal in its hurt as it was in its nobility, as it was in its power. Juliana wasn’t afforded that same freedom, and instead of turning her heart to steel it turned itself to gold, soft and pliable and equally as loyal. Equally, she burned. Their loss turned them honor-bound, turned them fervent, turned them holy. I’m not sure exactly how they might come together (imagine: they meet, masks drawn, in the flashing lights of the Tempest lounge, each knowing exactly who they other is but wanting just for a moment to pretend they don’t), but I can’t help but think about the ways in which Roman might change Juliana–most of them entirely for the better. Roman is someone who has always known his fate, born into glory and taught how to harness it, and I think he could do a great deal to teach Juliana how to lead her people. He is wracked with his own grief, a grief that could fill him with prejudice against her simply for the sake of her name, but if they were to overcome their differences, the pair of them together could turn Juliana into the kind of woman she could only dream of being: daunting, exceptional, inspiring. Apart they are formidable, even if many can’t see that in Juliana yet. Together they threaten to raze Verona to ash and build her back into something golden.
THE LADY VANISHES. Another potential path would be Juliana falls into the iron, consumed by that which she vowed to protect her father from. In some ways, Juliana has traded in one golden cage for another made of silver and bronze, of tougher and more formidable things. Before her father brought her into the fold, she lived a lonely life, to be sure, but it was also lovely and left her sun-haloed and her blood tasting of honey. She attended private school and came home after classes were over, lounging in the backyard gardens, a book by Emily Brontë or some other romanticist cracked open and a bowl of peaches (or cherries or apricots or whatever else she could have possibly desired) on the table next to her. She’d sit before her canvas in a linen shirt and nothing else, paint streaked across the canvas and her cheeks while she poured her heart into the brush strokes. She’d sit at the dinner table with her father and smile and laugh and tell him about her day until he’d quietly excuse herself. Eventually she’d go on to expect it, this quiet departure, and eventually she’d stop minding the quiet. Yes, she led a quiet life, one full of care and peace, and she didn’t mind so much until Vivianne convinced her father to pull her from her cage for a night and show her all of the darkness that she’d been missing. And with the dark came the love of the moon, and the stars, and the cosmos gave Juliana the same love that the sun had formerly shown her. It’s intoxicating, the darkness, the flecks of light that dance across the sky as an evening wears on, the atrocities that men and women will commit in her name, the ones that taste uncomfortably like a drug she never intended to get addicted to. What if she were to give in? I think it’d be a fascinating thing, to see Juliana fall.
THE AGE OF INNOCENCE. It’s no small secret, Juliana’s innocence. It shapes her every breath, lets each and every member of both mobs form their own opinions about who she is and what she is capable of–all without ever actually meeting her. Boss’s daughter, the delicate flower, the soldiers sometimes whisper when she enters a room. She is the blessed daughter, no matter the grime that’s started to taint her manicure, no matter the blood she spills on her Manolo Blahniks. I’d be curious to see how this innocence of hers fares, and whether or not it will lead to her untimely end. I think this is possibly the least likely of my plot ideas; I find it hard to believe that the prodigal daughter would allow herself to be chained to her innocence, no matter how much she might resent the darkness, but it could be an interesting thought to consider, this kind of oxymoronic concept of fatal innocence. She’s let the darkness is, but will the light burn it from her soul, taking her body down with it? Time will tell.
LOVE IN THE AFTERNOON. There’s something terribly haunting about Juliana being forced into a marriage for which she has no passion, into a relationship with a man whom she… respects? Priam Taravella is an honorable man, and she is fiercely loyal and guilty in her innocence, and she would never want to intentionally go out of her way to make a move against this union arranged for her by her father, but this is Juliana. Juliana, who would die for love. Juliana, who would die just to be in love, for some fleeting moment where she could taste love’s tender kiss, for a shared night with a lover who put their mouth to her collarbone and whispered her a new religion. She wants someone to stare into her eyes and show her what it is to go mad for love. Juliana, she loves and she loves and she loves and she has so few directions to direct her love. She has her father, and she has her cousins, and she has her Vivianne, but none are the love she so desperately might desire. The love she so earnestly deserves. It’s no small thing that the last line of her bio is “Icarus and the sun? That was love.” That is what Juliana seeks in life–a love that is all consuming, a love that threatens to burn, a love that she’d be willing to cast the world into flame just to get a taste of. Priam Taravella might be a partner, a brother in arms in this war that she doesn’t want to be fighting, but he’s no sun, and she doesn’t turn to Icarus when he comes near. I want so desperately for her to say this, to speak out against her arranged marriage, to step into the ranks of the Capulets and come out stronger, with a louder voice and with hands that no longer shake, and be unashamed of her hungry heart. She’s a girl born to a bloodied throne–should she not be worthy of it herself? Should she not have a mate to match her hunger?
Are you comfortable with killing off your character? | Always. I’m so that bitch.
In Depth
In-Character Interview:
What is your favorite place in Verona?
She knows what she would have said, once upon a dream.
She thinks of the before, when the sunlight tasted like honey and her smile was effortless. When she could walk through the garden behind their villa and not remember the sight of a dark haired woman sitting on the stone bench beneath the olive tree there, spine cracked and a smile on her face as Emma Woodhouse did something to make her laugh. When she spent each summer biking outside of her hometown to the small lake just south of the city, Tibby trailing along behind her at the request of his father. We can’t let the princess get lost, she can still remember him saying, the echo of a mother’s soft laughter still ringing in her head.
She remembers slipping through massive dark wood doors, her little sister in tow, shutting the heavy thing behind her and standing among all of the things that made her mother who she was. A baby-faced Juliana, pulling open drawers and running small hands over the fine silks there, or slipping into the wardrobe at the back of the room where all of her mother’s biggest, warmest coats hung up. She’d bury herself on the floor there and whisper stories to Siena, tall tales of romance and intrigue that she’s read about in the novels she’d found among her mother’s things. She remembers putting on a pair of velvet red stilettos, six sizes too big for her adolescent feet, and wrapping a silken scarf around her slender neck, giggling and laughing as her dark-haired counterpart donned a wide-brimmed hat she’d only seen her mother wear once.
But that life feels like a dream now.
A life lived, surely, but not by Juliana. Not as the woman she is today.
Instead, she thinks of the places she loves now, the places that are privy to the woman she’s becoming rather than the one she’s been forced to leave behind. She thinks of the cathedral and every moment where her father has looked upon her with newfound approval, but must then also think of the blood she knows has been spilt there, the ichor she can’t see but knows is under her cousins fingernails. She thinks of her bedroom, the bed with the white linen bedspread she insisted on even though her father said he’d buy her a silk set, the window with the bench below it where she likes to sit and read the stories her mother once told her before putting her to bed. She thinks of the abandoned easel in the corner of the room, paint dried and the image only half-completed. We learn to love our cages, they say.
She thinks of the Castelvecchio, and the many times she’s sat on the edge of the bridge and stared into the sunset, the colors of the sky daring her to pick up a paintbrush she put down two years ago. But if she must think of the bridge then she must also think of the crimes that have befallen both sides of this conflict that has left the two families broken and wanting.
And then, she thinks of the inbetween.
“The Twelfth Night,” she says suddenly, as though pulled from a trance. “I’ve always loved art, though it wasn’t until recently that I spent much time there.”
How embarrassing, she thinks. Vivianne taught me better; never let them see you blink.
“They have a Rembrandt that just–” she pauses for a moment, inhaling deeply and shaking her head, the image coming to the forefront of her mind. “It’s just absolutely phenomenal. Have you ever been? Their Baroque collection is simply to die for. They have a Velásquez that I promise will steal the breath right out from your throat.”
She pauses, another half beat of her heart where she remembers a cage she sometimes wishes she wasn’t free of.
“Then again, of course, his best works are in Spain. Las Meninas is at the Museo del Prado, if I’m not mistaken.” She’s not, but she knows better than to be impolite. So she smiles, and goes on, her eyes mischievous when she continues, as though she’s letting him in on a secret.
(She pretends she doesn’t feel a pang in her heart when she mentions Spain. When she thinks of a summer spent walking through Madrid while she and her mother visit her aunt, the air warm and full of music that makes her heart sing. When she thinks of a freedom she never got to taste again).
“Everyone always expects me to favor florals, you know. When I say I love art, they expect me to love the impressionists, to say that Renoir and Monet are who I’d lay my heart bare for, or that Degas Dancers in Blue hangs over my bed, but they’re wrong. It’s not that they aren’t beautiful, of course they are, but stand in front of a Rembrandt or a Velásquez for half an hour and it’s just… it’s transcendent. It’s real, but it’s also more than. Monet is beautiful, but Rembrandt…”
She shakes her head again, her chest heavy.
“Rembrandt is sublime.”
What does your typical day look like?
She can’t help it when she lets out a laugh, her eyes glinting like sunlight on the water. She doesn’t blame her interviewer when the breath catches in his throat.
“Is this the part where I demurely evade the question? Bat my lashes and act like my days are top secret?” She is all soft lines when she leans forward in the plush velvet armchair, shoulders curling in on themselves while she twists her mouth into a smile. “None of my days are typical,” she purrs in mock amusement.
He responds, says something he probably thinks is witty. Juliana smiles, but she’s not really listening to him and for a moment her heart isn’t in it.
The truth is that her days scare her sometimes, and sometimes they make her heart sing, and she’s not sure exactly which is worse anymore, or what causes which reaction on what occasion. There are days where the thought of leaving her bedroom terrifies her, where the thought of walking through the streets of Verona will mean having Tiberius at her heels, eyes and teeth hungry for spilt blood. Days where she’s not sure if she hates him or loves him more for it in equal measure. You don’t hate him, she thinks quickly. You hate what this city’s done to him. (She knows better, knows that violence is embedded in her cousin’s heart, the same way she knows the darkness was always in her fathers and it was simply grief that brought it forth–she lies to herself all the same). Then there are days where staying in her cage seems equally as dangerous, equally as terrifying. What was she missing, out there in the world? A world where all was not sunlight and starry nights? The days where her father bids her stay in the house she will stare at the half-finished canvas in her bedroom and wonder–those haunt her the same way her days at the Cathedral do.
She’s caught somewhere in the middle of them, these two lives of hers, and the more time she spends in the in-between the more she begins to see that the pair of them are both light and dark. That they are cages in equal measure, and she loves them both.
(And what, pray tell, would be better to die for? One could say she’s caught between a rock and a hard place, her gilded cage and her blood-soaked title, but she’d call herself lucky, to have a life so full of love, practically brimming over the edge with it).
“It’s changed, recently,” she finally says in response to whatever it was he had said last. “My definition of typical.”
She purses her lips just so, pausing only the bat of an eye before deciding what she may actually be able to tell her companion.
“I used to wake when I pleased, but I’ve begun rising with the sun. I desperately need an espresso in the mornings though–you really don’t want to meet me early morning if I haven’t had a healthy dose of caffeine. I wish I were someone who enjoyed running. They say it’s a good thing to do in the mornings, a way to kickstart your day. Do you run?” Her companion shakes his head, but she’s not convinced he’s really listening to her. His mouth is parted and his eyes are trained on her full mouth; it makes her smile. “No? Well, I wish I did. Perhaps we ought to take it up together. Be each other’s motivators.”
A half-pause. Another moment for her to bask in his staring. She’d always fared well with attention.
“Sometimes I have errands to run, for my father or otherwise. More often lately it’s been something for him, but I can’t always be sure there’s something he wants for me to do, so I’m not sure I’d call it typical.” Her mouth twists, half smile half grimace, as though she must be apologetic for not having a more direct answer. “Someone once told me that each plan is a house of cards, and when a single variable shifts, the whole thing comes tumbling down. I suppose that’s the approach I take when planning my days, what I must consider on any given week, that having a plan for my ‘typical day’ will always falter, that the unpredictability is what’s most predictable now.”
What has been your biggest mistake thus far?
For a half second, just a single moment, she nearly says the unthinkable.
It comes like the whip of leather, a shock lash through her system that she can’t deny, the kind of insecurity she’s never allowed herself to so much as feel, much less voice aloud to a near stranger, no matter how delicious his gaze had made her feel a moment before. I thought I would be enough. It’s a dangerous thought; not exactly sacrilegious, but something close. Something equally as desperate, something equally as ruinous. She’d remember, through no will of her own, the moments between cage and what she’d thought would be freedom, the night where her father announced to her over dinner that he’d like for her to start shadowing him.
(Shadowing. It was a funny word. A dark word for dark work.)
Nonetheless, she took her sun-hungry bones and turned herself into a half-moon girl, a goddess who could live in both the light and the dark of the world, and she’d done it all for the love of a father, for a love she’d been nearly bereft of for years. She’d tasted it in doses, in gifts left out for her the morning after a dinner spent alone, a pair of diamond earrings here or that pair of Gucci loafers she’d been eyeing there. She’d thought, somehow, desperately, inevitably, that this darkness she’d let into her soul would turn her into a girl her father might finally pay genuine attention to, no matter how that darkness might terrify her. We’re all drawn to that which scares us, Vivianne had said to her once, on a dark night with storm clouds on the horizon. Juliana had opened her windows to the rain, had leaned on her casement ledge and wanted in a strange and hungry way to stick her hand out the window, better still to rush through her backyard directly into the thunder and lightning. We feel safest when we know our fears, just as we do when we know our enemies. And if the darkness did bury itself in her heart, then she might know it, might better understand it, might use that darkness to show her father the dangers of such a thing. She would show him that it would suck her in like a drug and spit her back out just as rotten, just as ruined.
For her father, for her family, this was a weight she could bear.
This loss of light.
She should have known that to know the darkness would teach her to love it. Hadn’t that been what Vivianne was trying to tell her? That fears could intoxicate? She’d watched her father fall into the dark violence of the mob for years, sat alone at home in her bathrobe until late in the evenings, staying up until all hours for her father to finally come through their front door. She’d scurry up the steps to her bedroom before he could see her, but she saw it all the same—that way he loved the darkness, that way he welcomed it into his bones with arms open. She should have known; she thought she was conquering the darkness, but it had every ability to conquer her, too.
But she knows beyond doubt that she can say no such thing, that to admit weakness would go against everything that her father and his merry band of murdering men had taught her, and none would ever respect her if she answered as such. But she’s never been very good with dishonesty, and so when she speaks it’s an uncomfortable truth, but a truth all the same.
“Thinking myself invulnerable.”
She will offer no insight, no further explanation to this boy’s question.
What has been the most difficult task asked of you?
It surprises Juliana, the fact that she knows the answer to her companion’s question without much thought.
My name, she wants to say. For my name I may bear the world.
Instead she gives a soft hum, her head tilting to the side slightly while her eyes cast their gaze downwards. There’s a soft smile playing on her cheeks when she studies the lines formed by dark wood on the floor beneath her chair. When the boy had called and asked if they might conduct this little interview in the comfort of her own home, she’d at first been hesitant. The walls of the Capulet villa were hallowed if not hollowed, a private place, a place she’d once been caged and could be again. She couldn’t imagine her father would be pleased she’d allowed a near stranger into their home, but allowed it she had, and she couldn’t be more glad for the comforts of home.
On the mantle above the fireplace she sees a photo of her and her mother, Juliana looking like she was ten, perhaps twelve. There’s a book open on her mother’s lap, and neither seems to notice the camera trained on their moment. Beside the antique lamp on the side table, there’s a photo of Juliana and Siena, faces cracked wide by smiles. Just there, on the frame of the door leading outside, she can still see the scorch mark left behind from a lifetime ago, when she’d sat in the open doorway with Siena while lightning crackled outside, a candle flickering in the early night while the rain beat down on the patio and splashed up onto their outstretched toes. If she’d done this in a coffee shop, like she’d originally wanted, or in the park that overlooked the Adige, she thinks she wouldn’t have been so… real, neither with her interviewer nor with herself. Here her ghosts would keep her honest.
Lips of a rose and a gaze like sunshine, it shouldn’t be a surprise when it’s her title that is her greatest hardship.
The things we love hurt us the most.
“Do you know the story of Peter Pan?” Juliana asks the boy across the coffee table, lifting her gaze from the floor. Her eyes are steady and her hands don’t shake, but she almost wishes that they would, that she would feel some discomfort at the possibility of bearing such weight, at bearing such self-awareness.
“Sure,” he responds, brow furrowed in obvious confusion. “Doesn’t everyone?”
“Well, sometimes I can’t help but think myself Tinkerbell,” she goes on, a laugh threatening to bubble from her throat. She’d never actually voiced this thought of hers, this strange connection to a fictional fairy that she feels. She hopes he might understand. “At the very end of the novel, Peter can’t remember her, but we know that she died–she isn’t even afforded a death scene, you know? And she dies because people ceased to believe in her.”
She can see the boy’s confusion still plain as day, oblivious to how she might relate.
She laughs finally, a high and lovely thing, but she understands. She doesn’t quite understand it herself yet.
“I think what I relate to, or at least what I’m scared of most, is that I’m like her, that I’m going to… run the business and no one will believe in me, no one will want to follow me, and I’ll be destined to fail because of it, all before I’ve even really begun.”
What are your thoughts on the war between the Capulets and the Montagues?
“My thoughts?” She begins, eyes wide and carefully curious. Somehow she cannot deny her amusement.
The arch of her eyebrows rise up, all of her edges turned to sharp and her hair on end. She should have expected the question, surely, but a part of her hadn’t thought this milky soft boy bold enough to cross such lines.
She keeps her heartbeat level and her eyebrows raised, a kind of careful nonchalance.
Her thoughts flash though, for a moment, to all of those many people that this war threatens to ruin, for a moment to all of the many people that Juliana wants to save, wants to love. She thinks of brutal-hearted Rafaella and the girl she had been when she walked into the Capulet daughter life, thinks of all the ways that she loves her newest family, thinks of the cruel words she’s heard were spit at the girls shoulders and how she came out the other side stronger. She thinks of Donatello’s masterpieces and knows her cousin to be something more, something better, something wonderful. She thinks of all her soldiers, those souls who have pledged themselves at her family’s feet, the hands and hearts that will one day be her responsibility, the hungry hands and hearts that she will need to feed. She loves Verona though, and who could blame her when it is not just her soldiers that she considers, her soldiers that she wishes to love. She thinks of a boy across the bridge, with the weight of a world on his shoulders, and the daughter bereft of a father.
She thinks of a man with two children, a body decaying as it lies in a red pool of its own making.
Mutually assured destruction, is her first instinct.
Instead, she responds with a question.
“You know that phrase–’the things we do for love’?” She looking at the photo of her mother and father on the fireplace mantle, can’t help it when her brows draw together slightly. Slowly, she draws a breath and brings her gaze down from the mantle, making sure hazel eyes been blue. “The things we do for war.”
The honey-haired boy across the way looks at her with a question clear in his light eyes.
She supposes not everyone can see the way love and war intertwine.
“I think it’s about time it came to an end.”

An unorganized collection of headcanons–some of them from my perspective, some flashes of Juliana’s memory, some otherwise.
i. She is not an early riser by nature, but she’s made herself one by design. While she was still caged, she’d sleep away the morning, slip off her eye mask at near mid-day and stretch herself awake. Since she’s joined her father, she’s changed her habits. She’ll slip out her back door to sip at a cup of espresso while the sun leaks purple and pink all over the horizon, bleeds an orange so bright that sometimes she just wants to reach out into the sky and lick it.
ii. She had given herself to God once, but somewhere along the way it was like religion just slipped out of her pocket. She remembers the nights after her mother and Siena died, remembers the way she tried to crawl into the heart of that darkness to find her belief in Him, but she was met with only shadows; most days she’s okay with that, but sometimes in the dead of night, with nothing there but the darkness, she craves the light that she abandoned. Sometimes, she thinks that maybe she’s better off, that maybe there are pieces to her God that are better off left forgotten. She thinks, if she is to go back to God, then she’d like to go back to Emmanuel, the name some give Jesus at Christmastime. God with us, it says, and it’s a light in the darkness. A beacon of hope. God is with us, in us, always. In things big and small, in our hopes and our dreams, the people that we love. Some days it’s easier to think about someone in the cosmos making the decisions, that idea she would always have a destiny set forth, but for a girl whose blood pumps for love, it’s not hard to imagine that it’s those she loves who set her fate.
iii. You wet your pointer finger and run it around the rim of a crystal glass. It’s like angels, you whisper. Your mother smiles.
iv. Vivianne is staring at a slammed door when it truly hits her. You can never be her, Juliana had hissed, tears in her eyes and fists clenched at her side. It’s then that Vivianne realizes Juliana is glass and steel woven together, and she can’t tell anymore if she’s looking at courage emerging from the fragile, or the vulnerable giving way to strength.
v. She looks at her hands sometimes and sees doll parts, porcelain hands attached to marionette strings.
(She should know better, really. Doesn’t she know what dolls always do in the movies? They come to life. And come to life Juliana will.)
vi. She is an unexpected academic, not for want of knowledge particularly, but more for the sheer fact that a quiet life left her with a great deal of free time on her hands. She filled her time with other things, to be sure, painted a canvas the colors of sunset, read novels that made her heart sing in wonder and light, but she is fourteen when her mother dies and school is finally starting to get interesting when it happens. So, she gives herself to it. Languages don’t come naturally, but she spends hours studying tenses and spelling and starts watching Spanish telenovelas to teach herself. When she learns that, she moves onto harder languages like Russian, all harsh and brass noise but beautiful in it’s savagery. She teaches herself to slip between tongues the way others change their tops, letting Spanish roll of her tongue one moment and French in the next breath. She finds history fascinating, how empires rise and fall, and her bedroom is littered with stacks of books with notes in the margins, and The Art of War sits atop her collection of Brontë novels.
vii. She opens every window that she can. I need to be able to breathe, she’ll say when she casts the windows wide during a thunderstorm.
viii. Things go back to normal.
(Read: Juliana continues reading, continues sitting her mother’s closet and touching clothes that still smell of her mother’s perfume. Read: Cosimo bedecks his elder daughter in gifts, and spends all his waking hours (in truth, he sees her in his sleep as well) worrying about how he’s possibly going to keep her safe. Read: Juliana eats peaches in the fading afternoon light and they still taste like sunshine.)
Things don’t really go back to normal.
(Read: Juliana wakes up in a cold sweat for 6 months straight, an image of milky skin turned sour, purple shadows beneath tired eyes. Read: Cosimo’s gifts his daughter the Tower of Babel and teaches her that she is a saint, that she needs to be protected, that a caged bird is a safe bird. Read: Juliana doesn’t ever want to touch silk again.)
Things go back to normal.
ix. She is not a child, but she is childlike in her wonder, and sometimes her train of thought or her actions can reveal as such. She will hold a particular attachment to her objects, will wonder aloud about something that most people wouldn’t think to question, and has a peculiar preference for human contact that some people can find uncomfortable. She is tactile, still, in nature. Like a child reaches out to touch everything so as to understand, Juliana crosses barriers often and without much thought. She will give hugs in situations where they may not be warranted, touch forearms during conversations, put her hand on a person’s shoulder when she comes up quietly behind them. She will tuck a strand of hair behind a stranger’s ear if they allow her, put her palm to a friend’s cheek when they are in distress.
x. She cannot drink too much champagne, anything more than half a glass really and her stomach will roll–she thinks about the one and only time she stole from her father’s liquor cabinet, a rosy-lipped and doe-eyed little girl trying to impress her golden-haired counterpart. They’d both downed an entire bottle each and then spent the rest of the evening puking in Juliana’s bathroom, but the next morning her house had been quiet and empty and no one ever noticed.
xi. There has been more than one occasion where she was discovered on her casement ledge, sitting precariously on the edge, feet dangling free a bedroom window where the scent of an apricot tree lingers in the air, drifting up from the garden below.
xii. Juliana has exactly four weapons in her current arsenal, though she’s been considering expanding recently, perhaps going to Lucrezia for some training in other methods. The first is a Glock-19 that she was given about a year ago, which feels weighty and foreign in her hands. The second is a balisong, which scares her and exhilarates her in the same breath. Spinning it between her fingers, it looks like dancing. The third is an antique revolver, which while impractical for it’s less accurate, is her favorite. It has a marbled handle and along the metals are intricate etching that make the piece look more like a work of art than a weapon. Her father gave it to her for her 21st birthday. The last is the one that scares her the most: her smile.
