i see all these comments talking about this after the new episode, but. i would like to state for the record that stolitz isn't. toxic.

first off, the concept of a toxic and a healthy relationship are such... vague terms. when you're online, drenched in language and tight moral boundaries, trying to put a nuanced story like helluva boss's into boxes is easy to attempt and impossible to do.

a toxic relationship is one where one or both parties is maliciously affecting the other. I'm talking fetid, nasty, rude interactions where there is more hurt than love. they're unhappy more often than not when they're with their partner, there's no respect or give from the other side.

stolitz is nothing like that.

Stolas actively cares about Blitz and actually has no fear or hesitation in ADMITTING IT OUT LOUD TO OZZIE. he has been calling, texting, commenting, laughing and finding ways to spend time with Blitz. he's throwing everything he has to the wind, finding the courage to move forward with the divorce, putting everything he has into trying to keep him. he's been alone in a palace since he was born, on medication, with such less people dear to him that he remembered the circus boy who spent a day with him DECADES ago- so when blitz comes into his life and brings back in laughter and color and sex, he's holding on with everything he's got.

and blitz does care!!! he cares a LOT, the whole series we see him falling in love with stolas through SHOW NOT TELL (his expressions, his choices, his fear, his lashing out) and utterly unable to process that stolas cares about him too when talking to fizz; almost a desperate kind of denial-

cause yknow. the first time he tried to confess something to someone he really liked, he accidentally killed half the people he knew and ruined the lives of the rest?

thats gonna leave just a teensy impact on the will to express your emotions in the future, methinks.

even before that, he clearly felt like on some level that he was unworthy and he's said twice that he despises himself for the accident even though it wasn't actually his fault. being self aware doesn't stop the emotions from emotioning.

he keeps insisting its only sex so urgently to anyone who doesn't ask because he can't even imagine it being anything else. he's both disappointed and relieved when he repeats that stolas sees him as a novelty, because what else can it be?

(there's a whole other spiel of how brave both Stolas and Blitz have to be to say it out loud even when asmodeus can't afford to, considering how publically and completely beaten down both were at the club.)

(there's also another whole spiel about how frustrating it has been for ME to see all these comments over time with such bad takes based on like,, 20 min worth of info of a show that takes months to release an ep. like godDAMN have some patience?? let the story UNFOLD MAYBE? IT WAS ALWAYS GOING TO HAVE AN EXPLANATION WHY WOULD YOU CRITICIZE THINGS THAT ARENT EVEN FINISHED ESPECIALLY AN INDIE ANIMATION- i digress)

mind you, this has NOTHING to do with abuse. an abusive relationship is one where one is actively harming the other with full awareness. Stella is an abuser and their marriage is abusive.

and stolitz isn't that; it isn't even unhealthy or toxic. it's a consensual, transactional fuckbuddy relationship that slid into something more for both of them.

but!!!!! one of the main reasons for the problems that everyone looks over is-

they're in a BDSM relationship.

I can't possibly delve into dynamics without making this a 10k research paper BUT even though we've gotten only hints and costumes and dialogue- they're very clearly and undeniably in a BDSM contract. Behind the scenes of this crazy show is a whole different story, of these two delving into the most hardcore kinks out there- knifeplay, painplay, bondage.

if you've gotten into the community, if you've read a couple dozen particularly good fics by authors who know what they're talking about, hell; even if your only experience is fifty shades or 365 or whatever- you gotta know that BDSM scenes are crazy fucking emotionally heavy. there's so much that has gone down between them during their full moons that helluva can't get into!!

but you know how in so many of these popular medias and fics, the dom in the relationship is also like,, the billionaire/mafia heir/prince, etc, the one with financial and physical power? this isnt that. it has been very clearly stated that stolas is subbing, blitz is domming.

now take a moment and think about how much that fucks up the dynamics.

in stolas' eyes, blitz is a confident, dangerous individual who's an old friend and cherished memory of his, who he's trusted wholly with his safety during sex and he's lucky to have; and he has been in an abusive arranged marriage for the past eighteen Years, he's probably not going to be pushing his luck with his dom that much in the first place. plus, blitz is never cowed by him during their conversations- think back to the first phone call right after he stole the book, completely unafraid.

and for blitz, it's someone trusting him again- but it's also a royal- a blue blood who's nearly untouchable and so much more powerful- who couldn't possibly like a piece of shit like him, apart from the sex he gets out of it. he only flirts once he gets some sort of cue from Stolas; he's desperately trying to view this as only a Goetia trying to get his rocks off, despite all the evidence to the contrary, because anything else is unfathomable to him, no matter how clearly Stolas shows it, because of the ptsd.

both of them thinks the other has the power. both of them aren't expecting the other to keep shut if something's bothering them.

and there's so much conflicting messages from the other too!

stolas calls him a plaything when trying to intimidate the humans; stolas cups his face gently and asks if he's alright

blitz asks him on a date and tells him to get better soon; blitz yells that it's only sex and doesn't reply to his messages

ya see?

bring it to fizzozzie for a second now; even though they do look all good on surface, you can still see fizz's trauma and doubt in all their interactions, they're still forced to keep the relationship secret. do you see his face when Ozzie says in hyperbole that he's never leaving the house again, or when someone accuses him of being a pampered house pet or when he got sexualized in the 7th ep? whatever happened in the interim between the accident with mammon, it fucked him UP. even though oz seems to be well aware of this when he tells him not to apologise and in their general interactions, fizz still visibly has trouble separating plaything/commodity from healthy relationship.

shout the fuck out to Ozzie btw, man knows whats UP. rooting for these two so much omg.

i forgot where I was going with this point, I'll edit it when i remember. but yeah! lovely fucking relationship, but damn what angst filled issues.

anyway, to sum up- stolitz is not a toxic relationship. the relationship is stuck sludging through misunderstandings and careless microaggressions and trauma responses, but it's not unhealthy or toxic because of the simple reason that most of the current hurt comes from... a misunderstanding. stolas didn't realise blitz would need reassurance about what they were and blitz didn't see stolas as someone who could get hurt.

unecessarily calling it toxic, even online, is more impactful than people think too. almost all spindlehorse ARE on all social medias; so MANY YouTube animators i know have found jobs there; they see your words, especially since a lot don't tag posts with "anti hb" correctly to keep them out of the main tag. there are Very few queer medias made BY queer people that haven't gone through heavy corporate revisions- helluva boss is practically a historical landmark in its success. it's very very very fucking easy to forget that not ten years ago some of the only queer videos on YouTube were butter lover (one kiss at the end post credits), dirty paws and welcome to hell (subtext).

the amount of "critical talk" helluva boss gets for what it is is very unprecedented. it's a beautiful show. can't wait for the next episode.

As a Lando fan, but first and foremost a Max and Charles fan, I’m quite disappointed in Lando. It’s true what they say, not everyone is happy when you are on top and your real friends show their true colours.

You are right, Max says what he thinks and never filters it. While Charles is a PR King (let’s be honest he’s more of a princess but that’s besides the point) but never once has he thrown shade at Max since they became friends (at least not that I know of)

Now, Daniel is not, has never been and will never be someone about him. Nothing against him, just vibes. But the fact that Max has held him so dear and close to his heart and he goes ahead and throws major shade at Max when Max was being nothing but honest at Vegas then makes sure to hang out with Lando during Winter break the other driver who is Max’s publicly known bestie on the grid (I mean the man even attends P’s birthday parties) anyway I digress. It’s just outright shady and childish.

Max is on another level and not everyone will understand that. True friendship should withstand such challenges. Of course anyone would be jealous and intimidated by such dominance and success but to deny the man like Peter denying Jesus infront of the crowd is just sad. I mean c’mon, did he mean it as a joke? Also was Daniel attempting humour? It’s possible but I can’t see someone like Charles making such weird comments. Even when they were beefing, Charles made it known that him and Max are okay and even though they are not best friends their relationship or hang out outside the paddock (back then things are different now) he still loved racing against Max because they understood each other and how they raced.

It’s actually petty for grown men to belittle their friend because of his success. But what do I know, the sport destroyed a childhood friendship (Nico + Lewis) Maybe only the realest and toughest friendships survive. Viva Charles and Max (whether you ship them or as friends) it’s real and they are always rooting for each other.

yeah, i feel like the difference between daniel's current place in f1 and max's is playing a significant factor. again, max joined RBR when he was essentially still a teenager that was battling with puberty. daniel was there as the mature driver that max looked up to.

now, fast forward to 2024, daniel is fighting for his last chance at f1 after many unsuccessful team moves, and max is much more mature and has 3 WDC titles under his belt. that certainly changes things.

so i'm sure that if for whatever reason rbr kicks out checo and daniel jumps in, their dynamic would be different.

lando, on the other hand, is a different story. @tsarinablogs had a great post where someone suggested "I think Lando couldnt handle his car actually being competitive. Thats what weakened their friendship. It’s easy to be friends when you are driving a slow car, but then the car actually got competitive and he still couldnt beat Max."

again, the truth is -- f1 is a highly competitive environment and everyone will fight for themselves first without a doubt. that's what's happening with daniel and lando. daniel wants that red bull seat, lando wants to beat max. and that is going to be their priority over whatever friendly relationship they may have with max.

on the other hand, there are only 20 drivers in f1 so you have 20 other co-workers who share the same experiences as you. so you will always be closer to them than anyone else because no one would get you that well.

i think what works well currently between max and charles is that no matter how much media tried to put them against each other, they alway showed mutual respect to each other. charles never talked shit about max in press, and the overall vibe they have going on recently is that charles is happy for max's success, and is working hard to gain his own. also their actions speak a lot -- like charles' putting aside ferrari's questionable qatar strategy and rushing to congratulate max on his WDC. or max running to charles to apologise for his mistake in vegas.

their relationship doesn't seem to be definined by their racing results, and their joint racing history also makes them more equal in their own eyes than other drivers.

i think what a lot of ppl miss about the nuance when it comes to the retcon is that the POINT of it is that its a bad ending. homestuck is designed to be a tragedy and it was never going to end well; its frankly ridiculous to try and shoehorn in a scenario where none of the current main characters are dead when the story is ABOUT death. its not narratively satisfying at all like this! but thats not what the kids wanted (and, more to the point, thats not what the FANS wanted. newer fans DEFINITELY miss the fact that homestuck was written as a conversation between hussie and the fans, a conversation that turned into an argument halfway through and led to a lot of things being taken in bad faith on both sides. but i digress; this is a watsonian post)

the retcon powers are very VERY explicitly described as the ability to change the alpha timeline. the 'whats supposed to happen' of it all, the premeditated narrative the story was written to fill. conversely, when aranea used the ring of life to come back and meddle, she is explicitly described as 'causing a doomed timeline.' and like, the thing about doomed timelines is that theyre meant to happen as much as theyre meant to be fixed. theyre how paradox space accounts for and incorporates time travel, and the existence of the doomed timeline is often NECESSARY for the alpha timeline to function. thats how you get davesprite, thats how the aradiabot that brought gamzee's honkHONK code back from his crazy murder timeline contributed to doc scratch's creation, thats why every dead dave helped the alpha timeline dave figure out what to do. if vriska was meant to have never died in the first place the timeline wouldve been doomed long before game over. the ring went to the wrong person, and thats the kind of simple fix sburb was expecting to solve with some time travel to get things back on track

the ring was supposed to go to someone else. probably vriska! from the alpha timelines perspective, it wasnt that long after her confrontation with john that she really changed and grew as a character. that she became someone who deserved a second chance. imagine: john uses his retcon as normal time travel, the way sburb comprehended it through the limitations of its code. he takes the ring before aranea can, goes to the dream bubbles, and has another conversation with vriska. maybe she doesnt even really want the ring anymore, and thats exactly the kind of thing that would convince john to give it to her. and she agrees, because he tells her terezi is waiting for her. they go back, they have the final fight, and people die. maybe they dont come back. but its the group of characters who earned the ending, who we watched grow up for three years

but thats not what happened, and it was never going to be what happened, because as narratively satisfying as it could have been? john and terezi wanted something different. john wanted everything to be OVER and terezi wanted the chance to make a different choice, even if it was wrong. theyre selfish; theyre kids. theyre tired of being characters in a story, of someone else pulling their strings. thats what typheus's choice was about, you know? and john made the wrong choice. some other version of john could have fixed things the "right" way, had our john decided to die instead. to accept the consequences of the doomed timeline and let pardox space fix it. hell, between roxys first instinct to just sit and let the void take her and terezis pointy horns offering a counterpoint we have some pretty blatant devil/angel on the shoulder imagery! and john making the same wrong choice he did when terezi first told him to fly to the seventh gate, except this time there was no davesprite on angel wings, no one left alive he cared about enough to listen to. because as much as john felt like he was SUPPOSED to fall for roxy, the girl version of his fathers lover, someone strongly associated with his half of karkat's shipping chart but without the complication of being a lesbian, someone HUMAN to repopulate the world with cut out of his apocalypse movie fantasies...... terezis way of thinking has always appealed to him more. because as much as he pretends its not true, john doesnt like to take things lying down, and he doesnt like when other people do either. he gets bored! hes attracted to the danger and morally grey self confidence terezi and vriska exude, so. he listened to terezi, and they brought vriska back.... without any of the character development she had gone through.

and its a bad ending, because of course it would be. and thats the point :) it was stupid to think two kids could meddle with the fate of the universe and it was stupid to think that these kids could have a happy ending so easily. but can you really blame them?

spoilers for professor layton and the last specter

one day i'll finally write that ~analysis about how layton treats children esp in pl4 and esp in comparison to emmy that's been in my head for literal y e a r s at this point

i'm going to actually leave some of my scattered thoughts abt it here finally. note that this is all based on the US localization.

for lack of better words, layton treats children with respect and seriously. like of course he's mindful that they're children but he takes what they say and feel with seriousness. vs emmy who's often patronizing, demeaning, or impatient (for lack of better words).

this is prob most apparent with Luke in pl4, though not limited to him.

when first told about the door puzzle, emmy goes 'aw thats so cute let's do it'. like indulging a little kid. which luke is, but i digress. EDIT: briefly checked out the jpn text in the scene and it doesn't seem like Emmy calls it cute, and her tone isn't doing it either. seems like she's just like, 'Professor, let's do it!' which is interestinf

there's a point where Luke is freaking out about the specter and the power it has and how it's corrupted his father. emmy's like 'you cant seriously believe theres actually a specter!' but Layton says to Luke 'I believe the specter has the power you say it has'. Layton doesnt believe there's an actual monster re: the specter, but he believes there is something re: the specter, and that's the important thing. and Layton furthermore immediately goes on to say he's noticed something's up with Clark, himself. Layton is listening to Luke and taking his feelings and fears seriously and is validating him -- and this is so incredibly significant bc of Luke's whole feeling like he's unable to trust anyone during the game which is incredibly related to this but a bit separate so im trying not to digress. THE POINT. is. the difference between Layton and Emmy in this regard.

i dont remember if it's the same part -- i think it might be later but maybe not -- i think it's when Luke reveals how he can tell where the specter will appear next? -- but basically Emmy's kind of upset for lack of a better word that Luke had been withholding that info and is like 'are you hiding anything else, like what the specter has for breakfast?!' or something iirc. luke mind of apologetically defends himself with 'i didnt know if i could trust you' and Layton is totally understanding

EDIT: (i removed an example bc upon further reflection it wasnt necessarily relevant. i might readd it later)

then there's the part with Jakes' son near the end iirc

also the small part nearer the beginning iirc when Luke goes chasing after the cat and Emmy&Layton are chasing after him and Emmy complains to the professor 'he's acting like a child!' and layton's like 'heh well he is a child c; '

there's also how Layton treats/interacts with the Ravens

also when first meeting Luke and Luke's opening up slightly but then Clark comes in and starts scolding him which has Luke withdraw/angry/turn away and Layton's like, "Clark, please"

there's also the cutscene when they first see the specter, where before it appears. Layton asks Luke, 'well, luke, what do you think? do you see anything?', he says no nothing, and Emmy's like 'I still have a hard time believing this. it sounds like a scary bedtime story. is this even possible?'. Layton says, 'Well, we'll soon find out.' and then Emmy goes on to say 'and a poor boy who predicts where the giant specter will appear' and Luke's unhappy about her comment

ALSO when Layton tries to go after the Specter that scene and Luke grabs onto him and tells him not to go, Layton takes the time to talk to him. same for when Luke's freaking out when the police took Arianna away. Layton puts a hand on his shoulder, gets to his level, and talks to him seriously.

this isn't bashing on Emmy btw I actually enjoy this as part of her character and it makes sense to me the difference between her and Layton in this regard. im also not saying that shes like always like this with kids either. or that it's even kid specific. I genuinely think it's neat. I also think it's a super neat part of Layton's character.

also ive really got to either play through pl4 again myself or watch a playthrough to record all the specific instances again.

also Layton taking Luke's feelings and fears seriously and Luke coming to trust Layton at this time of his life means the world to me

Honestly i just need a rewrite of the heroes of olympus books from like the lost hero to the end

Like keep the plot, and the same characters but stick to their development, and don't discourage yourself to dive deep, I want Percy and Annabeth's struggle to be real, and not just staring blankly at walls and not even giving them povs in the end

I want Nico to talk to Percy, not just tell him he's over him, I want them to talk, because they were friends, Percy thought of him as a friend, I want them to just talk it out, for Percy to explain things to Nico, not Jason bur Percy, because no matter how much he denies it, Percy is Nicos only link to his old life, and no matter what, he does get him in some aspects

Don't get me wrong, i love Jason but it shouldn't have fallen on him to help Nico, because he didn't know him, and Nico didn't want to know him, it's that simple

But Rick got caught up in the story and forgot it's characters and their feelings and past, he just made a new set with their names and some vague notion of them

I was so pissed when they thought of Nico as a traitor, Percy should have felt conflicted but not to the degree that he almost abandoned his friend, and i hate it

His fatal flaw is supposed to be loyalty, and it only seems to activate in the face of Annabeth and just, no

I love Annabeth, she's a treasure, and i do belive her and Percy are good for eachother, but Rick made it an obsession, not love and i hate every second of it

When he did such a good job on the first set of books, I was hooked, but the second set was awful truly, and don't get me started on Trials of Apollo, god it was just awful

I stopped reading after that set, i still haven't read the Egyptian and Norse ones and I don't want to because he'll ruin those too

I have complaints about the other characters too, but since it's the first time we meet them they don't seem to bad so it's almost fine

Back to my rant about percy and nico. I do believe in canon percabeth is logical and okay, and i love them, to a certain point, later it just seems fabricated and thats awful, i much prefer percico, as such au's, so I'm a bit biased but still. Nico searched for six whole months for Percy when he went missing, and the only thing that stopped him from telling him everything when he found him was the threat of Juno, so you can't tell me he just stopped at least crushing on Percy, let's not even talk about love. Back to the first set of books. I mean the moment Nico disappeared Percy put out search parties for him, even looking himself, and Bianca saw him as the only one to entrust her visions or whatever they were (never clarified), as such to find him, and Percy chose to be the one in the prophecy to protect Nico, not himself, because that boy was so scared to die, but he did it anyway, and all this in pretence of friendship, I'm sorry but that's a load of shit, still on the bias, I know, but I can't help it

Anyway in my search for different ships i stumbled apon an Apollo and Percy one, where they read Percy's thoughts and everything from the books, and I love the authors take on it, even if it dismissed percico but still i digress, they don't have to be together but they could be great friends if Rick wasn't so involved in the story to forget about the people in it

It's long, but it's from an outsiders point of view, and you see Percy's struggle and pain and everything, it's great, I can't say it's the best writing I've read, but i love it

Idea : thoughts on Daisy Jones and the Six and why the love triangle worked for me.

I just saw an inspiring publication/post (by @hellcat-in-chaos :https://www.tumblr.com/hellcat-in-chaos/190027062509/hellcat-in-chaos-66-fuucckk?source=share); reblogged by @alwayschasingrainbows

It made think on Djats.

It finally lets me put into (mostly) coherent words what I thought about both CamiBilly (Camilly) and DaisyBilly (Daisylly) while watching/reading. Thats why i LOVE both.

The post says that, and i quote :

"What's the difference?" I asked him. “Between the love of your life, and your soulmate?""

“One is a choice, and one is not."

Billy may be a mess (totally IS), thats why i LOVE him, but i'm digressing...I get him!! Whats better the LOVE of you Life or your soulmate?

There’s lucky people who finds one or the other, and never gets exposed to both at once (like Billy was) .

There's some others who never find any of them…Thats okay too, your biggest love should be YOURSELF (single Life IS awesome, i'm happier single than in couple,TBH, i'm more Karen Sirko)

But, and that's when trouble begins, others are like Billy, and find themselves between ice and Fire , or as my Abu (RIP) said (in spanish):

Está atrapado entre dos tierras…y al final no podrá respirar = he's trapped between two lands, and in the end he won't be able to breathe.

To me Camila IS and Will Always be Billy’s love of his Life , because he actively has chosen Camila, both in book (better) and TV (not as good, but good enough), Camila IS the one he wants to be with. She is his choice. He loves her to the point of selfdestruction aka the relapse in TV show, when he thinks she has left him in the last episode. He thinks himself broken without her.

On the other hand we have Daisy…To me Billy loves Daisy too, with every inch of him.

Fuck, even the lovely ever wise Camila acknowledges It (in book, the series did a huge disservice to her by erasing her discourse my fave in the book):

"He loves you, i know that he loves you, you know that he loves you...but hes not gonna leave me" (sorry for any possible mistakes, i read it in my native language spanish, not english, so Its a rough translation).

But… he denies It, because she IS just like him… and he cant admit/choose to loving Daisy, someone Who IS like him…Because at that point hes an addict (that doesnt act on It) but an addict nonetheless , once you are you'll always be , in the story he hated himself.

Billy and Daisy are soulmates (in spanish Its almas gemelas, like twinsouls, but in meaning more like soulmates really) because they hadn't chosen each other…yet they can't avoid their situation/ passion (and remember : passion is a also a synonym of pain)

They dont choose each other…Because theres no choice at all for them.

Billy has always had the choice that doesn't make him “broken”, the choice of love : Camila.

And in the end, when he manages to not be broken and only after losing his love, he can choose, from a healthy stand in life, to be with her soulmate (Daisy) and to turn her into another love.

But that quote is right : Love IS a concious act of choice. Soulmates arent…It is someone whose soul calls to you, like a syren chanting in the shore, and that can be good…or -like syren chants were in legends- a curse.

To conclude: I dont get Billy hate at all, i didn't get It when reading the book, and later with the series casting Sam Claflin (my beloved) It didn't help at all for me being objective.

Billy's situation was difficult …His options nearly imposible. He was crying in that Taxi for fucking reasons, you all. In choosing love, he has to deal with the consequences: he loses his soulmate . Also hurts everyone (himself, Camila and Daisy) in the process.

You find that easy to decide?? What would you choose LOVE or SOULMATISM? (I may create a future poll with this question)

If you doubt or dont know your answer, then i'm glad to tell you that you are ...~(insert drumroll sound here)~ Billy Dunne.

hi anon!! :o okay quick disclaimer that i havent touched spriteanons re:63 fic in a Very Long Time but i read a few of their If route/spinoff fics and got to around somewhere in arc 3 of the main re:63 fic yes :o!! (i only havent touched it since because Time and my Uncontrollable Attention Span. i dont tend to read super long fics either—no hard feelings or anything i am just a student with adhd hah.)

also quick explanation for anyone else stumbling across this—re:63 is a long plotty multichapter fic series where subaru and a few other surprise characters are genderbent (i use “genderbend” here in the sense of. biological sex and gender were bent yes). the fic starts from arc 1 and then comes with Major Divergences throughout the entire story. its a very solid read!!

but yeah so from what i do remember, i really enjoyed the fic, yeah. if i did read it again recently + caught up all the way to the current arc of the story (arc 4 i believe) i might have minor criticisms here and there, but again theyd be minor, and big emphasis on might because i do think re:63 is incredible (also i 1. try to adhere to fanfic courtesy of not giving unsolicited criticism directly to the author anyway wkfn and 2. im very light on most fic because. well we are All writing for free). and spriteanon has wrote more than a million words for this, all of which are Very polished with a solid plan for each arc. the fic’s such a labor of love its absolutely one of the best long form multichapter fics in this fandom, in my opinion. the writing style is very precise, i think, while still hitting Hard for every emotional beat and i think they generally get characters right. it’s a perfect balance.

i think what i most enjoyed about spriteanon’s fic though was its take on fem subaru.

the thing with fembaru takes in this fandom (though i see this also happen with fem reinhard takes as well)—im speaking for the english side of the fandom here by the way hah—is that sometimes writers tend to fall into this like. pitfall of being way too different with said now-female-character.

making a genderbend au does kind of show how you think of gender roles and gender and biological sex and all that, you know? not that thats a bad thing thats just an Inevitable fact given how intertwined these things can be irl and how a genderbend au will focus on these things in some way.

but like. genderswapping a character Is gonna change some things but its not usually gonna change Every Single Recognizable Trait in existence. sometimes people fall into pitfall of “this character is girl now” and forget to write her as a Person. they dont let her be as humanly “ugly” as how the character is in canon as a guy. and too many times i look at rezero genderbend fics or requests for genderbend fics in the rezero reddit fanfic ideas thread and fem subaru and reinhard are often genderswapped just to ship them with men (such as fembaru with regular reinhard or vice versa)—it does make me a little uncomfortable sometimes because 1. shipping the now fem character with another character of the same sex (such as fembaru x rem) doesnt really. Happen as much. it doesnt seem to be treated as a possibility that much?? or at least i havent seen it in fic. even though it Could Be, it’d just be less likely for Multiple Reasons (though of course correct me if im wrong if this ever happens in spriteanons fic akdndn) and 2. it feels like making a gay ship (like reinsuba) straight (ie reinsuba but one of them is the opposite sex now). which i have personal feelings on but i wont go too much into that hah.

BUT OKAY i digress i dont mean At All to go after authors who do any of this akndnd and spriteanon does have a few spinoff fics with fembaru x reinhard—all of which i ENJOYED, because 1. what i just said is a Personal Preference and 2. i dont mind it at all if its Well Written regardless (i have enjoyed a few other fembaru x reinhard fics too just bc they were well written yes!!). and spriteanons writing and handling of reinsubas dynamic is very very well written imo and i really liked reading through it. theyve written both fembaru and reinhard + subaru and fem reinhard together with a nuanced understanding of both characters, i think, and it absolutely still feels like Them. if that makes sense hah. like im not thinking “this feels like whole other people”, im thinking “this IS reinhard and subaru” regardless of gender. which is good because the former might take me out of the story a little bit T^T

and also i understand people are gonna have different takes on how genderbend aus would go, and i DO enjoy seeing variety in this yes!! :o (i cant really judge either because my old genderbend au fic is very. its different, lets just say hah.)

also spriteanon is Very good at showcasing subarus positive and negative qualities, i think. and spriteanon doesnt forget to show subarus npc/game/genre awareness-related mentality (in another way this time, given the slight differences in female lead isekai stories) either!! it was very interesting to read for Sure, and i appreciated how well they showed the trauma and horror in the story and showed how subaru understandably responds to it. fembaru feels Human here and like this is still subaru, which i think should be the goal yes. character is Very Important. and subaru can be very hard to get even close to right in fics so i gotta commend spriteanon in general for all the hard work on this fic hah.

and also i enjoyed the exploration of another subaru hobby (music!!) (which iirc is probably also a canon detail anyway?? but its expanded on in re:63??) very interesting. not much to say on that bc i dont Entirely remember every detail of this i just thought it was a fun take yes.

also i did love seeing the other characters that were genderbent. that was very fun. i kinda wish there were More just because i enjoyed it a lot. i liked seeing what changed and what didnt. though iirc spriteanon has some sort of interactive quality with some parts of the fic where they put up polls to vote on some aspects of the story?? so maybe some reoccurring readers voted on some of who gets to be genderbent and who doesnt hah.

and also the canon divergences in the story are Interesting. i was really kept on my toes a bit fr. i think out of what i read arc 2 was ABSOLUTELY my favorite for sure. it was such an amazing read and in a few aspects i enjoyed it More than canon arc 2!! not that canon arc 2 is bad (i enjoyed canon arc 2 A Lot) but re:63’s arc 2 has such Fascinating things in it…. hah i wont go into too much detail though its Spoilery.

but either way. re:63 is a very strong and solid fic imo. i really enjoyed it overall!! i might return to the fic someday to read through it from start to finish—not sure if i ever will but id have a fun time i think hah. its an absolute gem and you can see all the work spriteanon puts into it!!

Hi hi, first let me just say that I love your works.(Especially Monster Mayhem. ReaperRookmakesmyheartgobrrr) I have been reading your work on A03 and was even happier when I found you on Tumblr.

So I guess this isn't a traditional "Ask" but, im trying to start a fanfic blog here on Tumblr. I'm mainly writing twst content. Do you have any tips on how one should start posting their work on Tumblr? I haven't posted any works since I have no followings. If you don't have a precise answer to this, thats fine. But any tip of advice is very much appreciated.

Hmmm... I am also fairly new to the Tumblr sphere side of writing all things considered (just started really posting in earnest on here back in December? Very late November maybe?), so I'm still definitely a bit lost sometimes! But I can give my top tips! Or at least things that I notice tend to help!

Formatting is super helpful! If you keep things neat and concise people really seem to appreciate it! Using the cut-off/little squiggle on the side to split your posts under a 'read more' is also generally appreciated. I tend to like the format of 'Pairing, Word Count, Summary, Banner, Cut Off' because that's what I was used to on AO3, and also the things I most care about when I'm looking for stuff to read. I do like the banners on Tumblr--which is definitely different from AO3--from like a very superficial perspective, in that a lot of times if I didn't know who a character was 100% yet, I could look at the picture and go 'oh wow yeah that one's definitely my type' and would read it anyways lol

Tagging is a nightmare, but get the big ones! If I'm posting something for Malleus, I make sure to include both Malleus/Reader and Malleus/Yuu for example, just in case people go looking for one but not the other. For your own ease of access, pick a tag that's specific for different things! Like all my writing is tagged, very creatively, 'My Writing.' This just makes it so if I lose a post in the ether, or my taglist crashes, it's very easy to find everything again

Short form does better on Tumblr. It's the way of the world. Long stories tend to get less traction on average--both in terms of literal length and also like multi-chapter splits. Which is terrible for someone like me who likes to ramble on for ages but I digress. I actually started a Tumblr with the intention of teaching myself how to write shorter prompts. Write more often and less intensively sort of thing and look how well that went lololololl *sobs* I'm right back where I started But yeah don't be discouraged if your long, hard won, chapter is getting less notes than someone's two-line remake of a Brooklyn 99 quote. It's just the way it is. Tumblr is social media, AO3 is a library. They're just very different that way.

Hope any of that can help at all! I'm still so lost on how this Hell site functions too lol

hi!! what are protocal droids? 👀 (are they star wars? theres the little guys arent there. the gold one<3 and the one that makes noises?) (<- woefull lack of knowledge about star wars lol)

YES protocol droids are from star wars! that is in fact what the gold guy (c-3po. my babygirl) is.

So in star wars sapient robots are called Droids, and the different types are often referred to by their jobs; Battle droids are the silly canon fodder who say roger roger, and Artoo (R2-D2, lil blue guy in the picutre, and YES <3 he does make noises good job <3) is an Astromech droid, meaning, well, he does mechanical jobs in space. he fixes spacecrafts, sometimes from the outside while they fly, and has various gadgets and technological skills.

The yellow one, C-3PO, or threepio for friends, is the main protocol droid we see in the series, though not the only one. Luckily, he is exactly the type of mess of a person that his resume is his catchphrase: "C-3PO, human-cyborg relations. programmed in over six million forms of communication". He also described himself, in the first movie, as "[...] not much more than an interpreter, and not very good at telling stories."

So theyre linguistic AI. Machine translators in a friendly humanoid box. Threepio also sometimes interperts Artoo's mechanical beeping speech for the other characters, so we have to assume that's what Human-cyborg relations is about, even though cyborgs and droids are not the same as all- early installment weirdness is the best assumption because. the "human cyborg relations" phrase or concept has never been menaingfully brought up in star wars for my knowledge. searching it on wookiepedia mostly leads to info about a few protocol droid models and the many times threepio has said it.

But so often in the throes of hyperfixation have i found myself looking at the ceiling going ok i mean i understand but. what IS a protocol droid truly, when u look at it?

A protocol droid was a droid whose job was to aid sentients with their etiquette and relations with each other in the galaxy. They often dealt with event planning, etiquette, translation, and problem solving.

Often threepio is written as more of a butler than anything to do with linguistics. (half the time its not even proper butlering its just written as a servant by a writer who thinks they know what being a butler means but- i digress). He himself is quick to offer himself into those jobs, as well as more mechanical labour-

but then again he also becomes a spymaster at some point (my so beloved poe dameron comics. great comics and great space for droid rights introspection in the new star wars era).

So they're not just translators and interpeters, not just containers of cultural and ritualistic etiquette knowledge, they're, secretary machines. they're robots designed to help humans by doing the most tedious parts of thinking-and-learning for people- being nervous about perfect manners 200% of the time to prevent and prepare u for youur faux-pas, and working out the little details and paperwork and errandrunnig so you can get your thing going.

They're tools designed to let you say what you need without hassle, which is what makes the fact that in a way, Threepio is the narrator of star wars, so fucking awesome and ogod and interesting. they shouldnt have their own thing to say, but look at him go. he'll try to convince you he doesn't but thats precisely why you need to look at him go.

No wonder he is practically the main chrarter of the first 25 minutes of the first movie- not only being a lowly robot secretary make him a good everyman, this is a machine designed to kind of get across where you are and what's happening, lol.

Just. When I started being insane tm about this language generating software ("AI", salami, whatever u wanna call a neural network doing that stuff) was not even close to as big a thing as it is today. so that has definitely changed some stuff. but thats the thing- threepio is not using likelihood based processing he is An Actual Knowledge man. he loves boring u with facts. So he actually knows things, and- he's such an old machine. Anakin built him as a child, that was from old parts. yet he keeps kind of, growing as a character with his own personality (droidds developing unique thoughts and personalities by gaining experience is called Metaprogramming in star wars fiction), he also adapts to culture. he's always a wimp but hes much more subserviant when owned by fasicist imperials than he was when working with his good friend and master's secret wife padme, and he's a bit more confident in the sequels, in his own pathetic way.

So he reflects culture. he participates in society despite being designed to be a passive tool of it, and despite standing on the outsides of it due to. being treated as such, as A Droid, A Thing, or at best, even amongst friends, an annyoing old queen.

I simply think if the writers of star wars were as fascinated as I am by the technological implications of naming robot diplomats after the real life technological concept of protocols and exploring what does it mean to do thoughts and works and what is The Grave Omportance And Role Paper Work Can Play In This Space Opera Adventure, things would be great. because i love space bearucracy forever and the robots that do it re cool especially the homosexual mentally ill ones

Uhm, okay so, I just watched the episode where Gideon dies (10x13, Nelson's Sparrow), and I just need help understanding something.

In the end of the episode, Rossi puts down his gun and basically tells the unsub to come at him, and then later he shot and killed the unsub. The way I understood it was that Rossi wanted the unsub to come at him so he'd have an excuse to shoot and kill the unsub (most likely as revenge for Gideon + all those women since the unsub was so fine with going to jail), and I'd very much not like that to be the case, so did you or anyone else interpret it that way?

unfortunately im p sure thats exactly how that scene played out… i guess you could say its better than straight up shooting him in cold blood, but is it really all that different?? i cant remember when but at some point someone calls hotch out for letting that slide when he condemned elle for essentially doing the same thing.

idk i was really disappointed with that whole episode. conceptually it felt cheap and it really just spit in the face of gideon’s entire character arc. gideon’s departure was bittersweet.. it was inevitably a bit rushed just due to the way the actor was leaving, and we didnt ever get proper closure with him and any of the others, but i think that suited him in a way?

(in fact i think it worked in everyone else’s favor, character wise. they all had to scramble in the wake of his sudden absence, putting pressure on characters who were already at their breaking point. the team is on the brink of collapse what with strauss’s attacks, reid’s struggle with sobriety, emily’s doubts, hotch’s priorities… hotch has been unit chief since the show started but there was no question that ultimately they all looked to gideon for guidance. with gideon gone the others had to step up and have faith in their own abilities—and in each other. gideon was unparalleled as a profiler, but his true passion and ultimately the legacy he left behind was as an educator. the true test of his impact was whether the team could continue without him)

but i digress! he was troubled when he left: plagued by guilt of all the people who got hurt because of him. he couldnt handle the weight of the mistakes he had made, so when he drops everything and leaves it seemed like he was running away. particularly in the rather distasteful way they teased his last goodbye as a potential suicide letter.. while that wouldve been fitting in its own way, the reveal that he was using this time to rediscover himself and find his way out of the twisted life he had entangled himself in was uplifting and hopeful: he could live a life outside the bau and find the happiness and beauty in the world he had struggled to say as of late, but had always valued. only penelope could rival his fierce desire to choose to believe in the good of the world, even as he trudged through the death and destruction humanity had to offer. but he was losing his grip on that faith and needed to leave before he lost a part of himself he’d never get back

which is why it was so disheartening to see that he had fallen right back into it. he wasnt able to leave and, ultimately, it was what got him killed in the end. it wouldve been one thing if they emphasized the hopelessness of it all and how they were all destined to die in the same way because of the life they had chosen (and could never un-choose), but instead they tried to laugh it off and talk about the good ol days and pretend that he was doing good right up until the end. instead of acknowledging the tragedy of the trap he’d created for himself that he couldnt escape from, they talked about his quirks and told stories from his early bau days. if they had at least acknowledged it and presented it as an ominous omen reflecting the future that awaited them all, then ruining the end of his story wouldve felt worth it. but they disrespected his character for cheap entertainment instead of any deeper meaning they couldve drawn from it.

sorry lahdkzh this is not what you were asking about, but i just wanted to talk about why i felt they failed in this episode on all counts. not just with rossi and hotch’s actions, but with the base idea in the first place.

#obviously its all copaganda so any moral dilemmas presented are completely irrelevant #but still. if theyre gonna do it then at least make it good #this was just a really bad episode #the only good moment for me was getting to see steven… i wish we had gotten to see a little more of him #maybe a little competition between hotch/reid (surrogate sons) and the man who actually had gideon as a father #idk that just wouldve been neat #asks #cm crit

He finished it off by mocking Palaye’s pretentious self-proclaimed genre “Fashion Art Rock” (their asses acting as if Visual Kei isn’t a thing) and I guess Ronnie realized he was making a fool of himself because he ended it sarcastically wishing him well and stuff

To this day, Ronnie still makes fun of him every now and then but he deletes it soon after

Some say it was staged bc they used to be mutuals and stuff but they have unfollowed each other since and Ronnie sounds way too invested for it to be a joke, I choose to believe it’s real because it’s funnier lol

To put a long story short: no, I don't hold any resentment towards you, you have nothing to fear in that regard.

But for the sake of completeness and fun, let's expand upon that answer.

Yes, Mormons are a type of Christian. However, unlike most Christians, we do not believe in a concept of hell. The particulars a re a bit complex to explain in this post, but suffice it to say that the Mormon afterlife is, in my mind, one of the more generous afterlives in all of religion. I have yet to encounter one as fair and compassionate as the Mormon afterlife.

But I digress. Back to your question.

One the one hand, since I dont believe in a Hell run by incarnations of evil intent on punishing human sin (I assume thats the sort of Hell youre referring to, I tried looking up Malovian Hell to no avail), your demon headmates dont freak me out. But I think this is a bit of an incomplete answer, and doesnt speak to my thoughts on the realities of the plural experience. So lets go a bit deeper.

You say you have headmates who are demons. Then I believe you, and theyre demons. This isnt a matter of "Im just humoring you because you believe it," though. It goes deeper than that. Lots of people who are plural have alters/headmates whos internal lives of their own that dont line up with the life of the "host," for lack of a better term. This can range from "I am a human with a different life story than the host," to "I am not a human and I have memories or an identity that doesnt mesh with received reality." I've heard of people with fairy headmates, headmates from pieces of media, anthro/furry headmates, even some animal headmates. And now demon headmates, which I think is pretty neat.

These headmates are people with their own memories that make them who they are. They have their own lived experiences and histories, and to be honest, quibbling over whether or not their memories "really happened" ignores the fact that those memories are a real and important part of who they are. Not to mention the fact that anything goes in the brain. If one of your headmates is, for instance, internally a dragon, then thats what they are, regardless of the material realities of living in a human body (Incidentally, this is part of the reason I support therians and otherkin).

As to the fact that some of your headmates are demons from hell, that doesnt concern me. Lets say, for the sake of argument, that Im wrong in my psychological assessment of your plurality, and that there is a real spiritual dimension to your demon headmates origins. Still not worried. I dont believe in judging people on their origins, and so long as you're a good person, I don't care where you come from. Scratch that, I do care, because being friends with demons sounds rad as hell, literally.

(Another tangent: I wonder if plural folks are more predisposed towards paganism and religions that believe in reincarnation due to their experiences?)

Gender Fluidity is the New Cancer

I'm not a republican or a Democrat. I'm a human. I love living. And life is sacred. Regardless of its sex politics religion or lifestyle

I respect being gay as a lifestyle... I support equal rights, regardless of sex. I would never, ever impose my personal views on another human. Your body. Your rights. End of story there.

There's no malice or hate in my heart for the alphebetizers. Truly. Nothing but love and compassion.

On the flip side, i believe in science. Not a left-leaning, liberal interpretation of 'science' that cares more about furthering a political agenda than the betterment of humanity.

That science should be called what it is: "political indoctrination."

No, i stand against a cultural paradigm shift that's relying too heavily on expensive and experimental medical procedures. Im also not a fan of the way the left leans hard on the surrender of individual freedom to expression, namely the first Amendment rights we have to freedom of speech and freedom of the press.

Its one thing to put laws in place that protect others rights. Thats what Roe v. Wade was Supposed to be. Protection of rights. Red states endangering a woman's right to choose ? Its absolutely maddening. Fuck every one of those crusty, white, Good ol boys that think men have the right to impose bodily restrictions on pregnant women.

Men shouldn't have the right to say shit in regards to reproductive policies. No vagina? Shut the dick hole in your face, bro. If you are that concerned with the sanctity of life, focus on protecting the children that are already outside of the womb. They're the ones who actually NEED protection. Im sure the parents on the news who had children attending schools that were shot up while police did NOTHING would agree. Blue lives matter more than our future voters, apparently.

Try explaining that to little Timmys parents, why Sergeant Peckerwood with his badge and gun did nothing as a psychopathic asshole pulled the trigger that murdered their kid.

But i digress. That's a whole different issue.

The left is actively trying to take away EVERYONE'S rights to expression all because of a few select members of a subgroup that yap the loudest, like the most obnoxious ankle biters in history.

Hannah Gadsby is not a comedian. She's a political chihuahua. She's got her first Amendment rights though.. she can say what she wants.

Let trans be included. Give them their own bathrooms, if they want "special rights" ... i think that's doable.

Mr. Conservative-Blue-Collar should be able to rest easier knowing his daughter isnt in the stall next to a man that moonlights as a FarSide cartoon housewife. Its a minimal compromise.

Just don't try to tell the rest of us what we can or cannot say by delegating a disagreement in political bias as "hate speech." That's good old fashioned entitlement holding hands with A Weak, poor character quality.

While the Red seeks to erode womens rights while maintaing the hypocrisy of piety, the Blue erodes personal speech, putting up a face of all inclusiveness, while their biases are more than blatant to follow

We put more trust in biased media that sells empty narratives at the behest of its pharmaceutical addiction, all to our detriment.

Pay attention to where most of our money in the "free world" ends up. you'll start to see exactly why the world.... and specifically America .... is so fucked up.

When you understand who profits from what resources, it sharpens the picture of what's actually happening.

We are all too distracted with the politics surrounding the issues to be able to see the real forest for all its sleeze.

Few are paying attention.

Those who are in control of the world view Humans as a resource. That's it.

We are a resource of time and labor... but most importantly.... we offer the most compelling resource of all through our buying power. Our greatest asset is what we choose to spend our labor earnings on.

Lobbyists of white collar corporations run the goddamn show now.

The politicians don't.

Ill tell you, a politician is a puppet with a corporate hand jammed up their ass making them speak and vote. They use money as lube.

There's no idealists among thieves.

When you understand that fact, you start to realize how pointless all these fucking debates about "human rights" become.

A political decision that puts human autonomy in the Hands of a corrupt medical tech system and the government, exchanging money to live is a broken system....

Lets look at this in more detail.

Not just for a couple months. Or a couple years. For THE REST OF THAT PERSON'S LIFE.

Read up on Elliot Pages or Caitlyn Jenners reassignments. See how involved that process was and how much money was generated by the "simple" task of switching genders ...

Now, think about the money they're generating buying monthly prescriptions of artificially generated drugs and hormones.

They HAVE to take them ...

....so their body doesn't reject the transitions....

And kill them.

Their body will literally turn on them without pharmaceuticals.

Im not even gonna get into picking apart the unnatural science of tricking ones body into believing its another gender... I mean if someone is REALLY that insecure with themselves how they're born and want to put forth the effort and money to change that, more power to them BUT....

... that is a PERSONAL CHOICE.

It SHOULD NOT BE ACTIVELY PROMOTED IN POLITICS AS A MEANS TO GAIN VOTES.

By accepting reassignment surgeries, Elliot Page and Caitlyn Jenner did not "take control of their lives" as the mainstream narrative promotes. They willingly surrendered their physical lives to a corrupt system that fooled them into thinking they were "free" through their own affluence.

Contrary to leftist narratives, Jenner and Page should be less as idealized social pioneers and more poster-children testifying to our entire country's willing blind enslavement to Big Pharma.

If they cease to take hormones and drugs prescribed, it is at the cost of their own well being.

Are they really free? Or are they simply just slaves to a new system of control?

Medical technology companies are thriving. Slavering like dogs at a meat factory with all the "nip and tucks" that are generating a fortune now.

The 1% everyone hates is laughing their way to the bank as we debate semantical politics about "human rights" on social media.

It makes me think about how the EPA recently rejected the premise that glyphosate based herbicides cause cancer.

These weed killers are widely used and professionals in the science community have proven they're poisoning both the population and environment with their use.

But the EPA says "it's all good" because they profit from Bayer/Monsanto lobbyists.

Why? Why infect people with cancer? Why is it so easy to callously dismiss an average citizen who has been diagnosed with cancer from pesticides?

Duh. Money. Its about cash. Welcome to capitalism. Create a problem that creates a disease. Amp up the price on the cure. Simple economics.

A cancer diagnosis is an instant mass income generator for oncologists, surgeons, doctors, specialists ... the list goes on .... and we all know how wealthy they get doing what they do.

Is it so farfetched to think that Bayer/Monsanto WANT people to get cancer so their backdoor profits will increase?

Seems feasible to me.... ive seen cancer in action.

My family almost went broke paying for my Pop-pops in-home care before he finally passed away, all the while in extreme pain and suffering.

Cancer and the "gender fluidity" angle that's now being aggressively promoted by leftists are linked DIRECTLY and ONLY by who is being paid at the end of the day.

Medical tech. And Big Pharma.

In a court of law during a trial, there is a requirement to establish a clear motivation for a crime.

When you look at Big Pharma being poised to make a fortune from all this income generation from artificial gender reassignment surgeries that are all the rage now, it should cause you to think twice about where we are headed. Cause they've got a clear motive : Money.

It's not for the mental health of a cross dresser that thought he would be better off with a vagina after seeing Caitlyn Jenner on 60 Minutes ....

Cancer is one cash cow. So EPA will let cancer causing pesticides slide. And proudly endorse its use.

Gender reassignment will become another new cash cow guaranteeing a LIFETIME of customers to medical tech giants.

The purpose of those who have power is to keep it. they'll fight to do so by establishing systems of hierarchy to keep us subjugated.

They distract us via social media with irrelevant talking points to overburden us with details.

This same leftists currently AGGRESSIVELY pushing gender fluidity are from the SAME right wing government body that makes a fortune from Bayer/Monsanto lobbyists using cancer-causing chemicals in common household weed killers.

They're one.

And we the people are income generators.

Us and them.

We're not divided by citizenry. There exist two separate entities in our cultural habitus alright. But we are divided more in terms of power and income rather than political ideology.

Just like a cancer patients have been dollar sign indicators to the medical industry, so are gender reassignment "patients." Or more accurately, "victims" as I prefer to think of them.

Cancer kills you.

Gender reassignment kills who you were born to be.

So is there a difference?

Futsal Boys review, that's somehow longer than the Ryman Club review, but maybe because I've posted about Ryman Club before

Watching bad/shitty sports anime for boys is slowly becoming my repertoire, so of course, I was like, yeah lets watch this low rated sports anime on MAL. Let’s talk about Futsal Boys.

So I, unfortunately, am a person who does like shows when there are voice actors I like in it. IT’s not any different from watching a movie or series because an actor you like is in it. Which isnt to say that the show will be made or broken just because there’s a lack of familiar seiyuu. But I’m just so incredibly baffled by how the entire cast of Futsal Boys are all newbies? Either this is their first Anime role and maybe they’ve had experience in other things (maybe Youtube? Singing? dramas?) but the fact that there are No familiar faces makes me wonder iff they either were very confident in their product or they had no budget to get anyone. (Aside from Fukuyama Jun, who I was Super surprised voiced the announcer, because I was like “No way thats FukuJun because there’s Nobody Here.)

Okay, so, not that it’s starting off rocky, let’s look at the content and characters?

Futsal, what is it? Lmfao. I didn’t know either so I had to look it up, and to sum it up, it’s indoor mini soccer, with half the court size and half the team size. It worked really well because the series was only 12 episodes long and the team consists of 7 boys, which is a perfect amount. Not everyone on home team got a moment or development, but you know them enough and I think the characters that did get spotlight (mostly the four first years) are familiar enough to the audience and to each other.

I personally loved the tightness of the four first years. (I think they are first years, I could be wrong, but you know who I’m talking about, Haru, Sakaki, Ryu, Taiga) [Also I do not want to be biased because I Love the Karasuno First Years but I digress.] Of course the focus is on Haru and Sakaki’s red and blue rivalry and partnership etc and also Ryu and Taiga come in a pair (the dragon and tiger duo) but I also really loved how Haru and Ryu became besties and even got their own duo attack. Taiga is a lot more quiet and is often seen with Ryu of course, but I like that he isn’t afraid to talk to (back to?) Sakaki, who is also stand alone/aloof. Ryu also get’s to but into Sakaki’s business, of trying to make the entire group all Buddy Buddy. They’re not a star pair or anything, but they interact enough. Of course it’d be perfect if we got to see more Taiga and Haru interact, but that’s not too much of a concern.

Unfortunately the characters themselves aren’t anything super deep. I would have liked to know more about Haru and his abandonment issues, and I think episode 5 and 6 were great for even existing, but he doesn’t really go into it again afterwards. I’d been looking forward to Sakaki’s backstory the entire time, (who did he used to pass to and how did they die and traumatize him XD;;;;) and not that I’m disappointed in the story itself, but I would have liked to see Nagato again. (Not me thinking he looks like my boy Naegi Makoto that I want to see him again lmfao) I think coming from Salarman’s Club, Azuma spoiled me with an actual good and likable ex partner with partner issues. It felt a little inconclusive, not being able to get any closure from Nagato. Like yeah, Sakaki finally manages to make a Full On Pass to Haru, (with their cheesy attacks and animation and all) and we kind of knew it was coming, but I felt like the lead up might either have been too late or not as dynamic as I liked? I personally liked it more when Sakaki was struggling to decide if passing was right or not. Like (SORRY TO COMPARE TO HQ AGAIN) when Kags wasn’t sure when to be King or Goody Two Shoes. I thought Sakaki needed to learn that passing wasn’t just about giving the ball to someone else but to be able to decide for himself when is a proper time to pass. (Like him calling to pass to someone vs someone calling to get passed to.) Anyway, that wasn’t how that turned out, so maybe that was my fault for having expectations.

Ryu and Taiga are, there, I guess. I don’t have problems with them, though I kind of like how Ryu looks with the long hair and ponytail but he doesn’t do anything that’s like “femmy” or “shota”, he’s literally still a boy but he just Looks like that. Taking selfies and having fun at the arcade doesn’t count, he just wants to chill with his friends.

That leaves the senpai group of Tsukioka, Yukinaga and Usami. From the get go, Tsukioka is introduced as someone big and important, a very strong player that had played with/against the other National team members. (Or something, I don’t remember. Is it like, Japan’s Youth something something.) Tsukioka is a very strong captain and leader and you see him working with his kouhai to make a strong and better team. Unfortunately, I think Yukinaga and Usami just relegate themselves to the side lines and Tsukioka just takes all of the action in being a senpai.

I’m actually upset because Yukinaga was the original goaleiro until Taiga came in, I was kind of hoping for an arc for him. (Sorry to compare to HQ again, but very much like Suga to Kageyama.) Taiga literally came in and they were like “yeah, he’s on our team, let him in.” There was even a scene of Yukinaga injuring his hand during practice earlier in the episode before Taiga came in, and if it was along the route of “Yukinaga can’t play anymore, please help us Taiga”, I would have accepted it more? Like, Taiga jumping in because he saw Ryu hurt again (Family Guy dead pose meme in the exact position twice in a row) isn’t bad because it triggers his reason to play futsal again, but I would have liked a little something more for Yukinaga. They had him sub for Sakaki that one game vs Adalbert, (which again made me think of Suga and Kags) but it wasn’t like he had a moment for himself and it was just to get Sakaki to cool down.

As for the other teams, I literally confused the Other Prince School (Amanogawa) with Adalbert because they’re both pink and princely, or something. Also I’m a little baffled that they have a different character designer for every team? Not that the designs themselves clash, but it’s just weird to me ^^;

I thought Momomi was nice and fun (and reminded me of Jouzenji SORRY IM HQ BRAINROT). NGL I thought Yukimaru was Sakaki’s ex because he was plain looking and had an ahoge. This actually would have been a lot cooler, but I guess we can’t have Real characters knowing each other or anything. Anyway, even though I liked Momomi and that match, I was kind of baffled that they get almost 3 episodes to them, and the final Adalbert rematch was literally only 2 episodes? Like I know Momomi wasn’t a full 3 episodes, but we get to see them before the match and their entire schtick. Like, I guess we saw Adalbert before so we don’t really need another introduction, but since it’s a Revenge Match and the conclusive match for the end of the series, you’d think it’d be a lot longer? (And have a little special animation? Or that’s just me, I want cool sakuga.)

Other comments, uh, they never really explained the Futsal terms to me or the audience. Didn’t even use the excuse of Haru being a noob to info dump to us. I’m only guessing because they look and sound similar that the goaleiro is the goalie. The other stuff I literally have no idea what they are. The Play Caller sounds like the important role but I don’t know what that actually means. (Being a setter in volleyball? I guess?????) There was a good amount of Sport in the show, but there was also a good amount of character drama. I think the balance is good, and even though I won’t jump at the opportunity to watch games, I think it was fine. Me personally would have knocked the games down by like 10% but no real complaints.

Animation was… it did what it had to. They never looked Beautiful or Gorgeous and we never got really cool sakuga. Their special attack moves are Not Cool Sakuga. It’s something that’s cool if you were five years old XD;;; (Is that why the final move in the last game was not impressive to me? Sakaki doing his Super Move to Pass was fine but I personally wished they reanimated Haru’s move, with an added personal touch, just to make it a little more special instead of the stock animation. But also, the fact that they have stock animation attacks makes me not take the game seriously at all. (Gemini Twinkle AKA playing soccer in space with my friends)

Anyway, I wasn’t paying attention to the OST, so it probably wasn’t anything stand out. The OP and ED were fine. Anyway, Futsal Boys, I gave it a 7/10 on MAL, just because it wasn’t AMAZING, but it also wasn’t utter Trash Shit Show. It’s a little sloppy, and jouseimuke which probably is why it’s rated low because Dude Bros infest MAL. Like even though it’s an all male cast and you know they are trying to sell boys, there wasn’t any baity moments at all. Like, the fact that male friendships and fiery partnerships/declarations of rivalry, doesn’t even make it homoerotic to me. Like you sure can take it if you want, but they could have gone worse and gone the Number24/Free route if they wanted but they didn’t.
