Before I forget, I’m more than likely not active much in June. My archaeology lab just got the approval to do a dig for a month.
Hopefully I don’t miss anything fun while digging!😂❤️✨

I hate that I see naturopathy and holistic health as red flags now. They shouldn't be. They should be perfectly normal things that you integrate into your lifestyle on top of regular medicine. But they've become so bastardized by the anti-medicine community that I just read those words and wince now.

To drive or not to drive- 141
Tumblr media
Based on a request:
can you imagine medic!reader where she's like super tiny and young like 141 was her third assignment and if anything she's like only 3 years younger than johnny but by GOD she looks like a kid. and everyone thinks she's like this poor little private O-1 who got shoved in here. and then one night she got invited with the group to go out and as they're sitting at the bar, Johnny's like...are you even old enough to be here? and shes like if im old enough to stick everyone here with vaccines, i think i can drink a fruity cocktail and everyone's like but you can't even drive and readers like i never learnt how and basically the whole team just realized that reader's age and experience does not match up. like they don't know how to drive a car but damnit they just drove a humvee to amputate a man's leg in the field??
F!Reader, Medic!Reader
As the current youngest member of Task Force 141 and the only one who isn't as tall as the men you work with, always get asked, 'How the hell did they think you'd be a great match?'. And with all honesty, you don't even know that yourself. Tonight, as part of them trying to get to know you, they invited you to have some drinks with them. To the better judgement of Laswell, you accepted.
"I tell ya, lass 'ere is such a wee 'ittle thing, I bet she can't even down a drink."
"False, I can...I'm old enough to do as I please, a matter of fact." You look at the men, and all amused you finally speak up. Soap was always the one to make the most comments on who you are, your knowledge and your age. "Yeah? 're yer sure yer can even be in'ere?"
"Yes...I may not be the strongest of the bunch or the fact I am no tall man with abs and weird veiny arms..but if I can make the decision whether or not you to inject morphine in your body is enough proof. To decide if I should ease the pain of a wound inflicted by the enemy should be enough to tell you I am not defined by my appearance." You take a sip from your drink.
Ghost is impressed by your words but will never admit that to you or anyone. Gaz never took your knowledge and the way you spoke for granted rather he licked it so much he could listen to you day after day. "Couldn't even work a car if asked.." his thick Scottish accent hinting at the defeat, he loved to mess with you because you were such an easy target for his jokes. "That is true, never cared to learn." You don't deny the fact you never learnt which only fed into Soap's jokes for the future.
The other men then understood that although you weren't as they were, tall, strong and dangerous men..you, in your own ways, medical-wise, were just like them. One thing did matter here though, your age and knowledge were so far off the other, 23-year-olds are so different from medics, with the precision enough to inflict pain if needed only to gain a soldier more time to live. You might not drive or be tall and have veiny arms that look like they'll just burst at any given moment, but you were one thing..split in two. A medic, capable of anything to save a life and a human...not afraid to tell others you didn't and haven't mastered or even dare learn to drive.
It was 2 o'clock, Soap in the med bay and you with a small smirk, satisfied he had to seek you after the injury he gave himself while walking back from the pub. Maybe if he learned to close wounds and you'd learn to drive, things would be different.
A/N: Pointless ig...but it's something I suppose.

My vet came yesterday armed with a ton of information about Peach. She has a fungal infection and an upper respiratory called Feline Calicovirus that is highly infectious - even objects, including my clothes and hands - can transmit it and the symptoms are rough for many cats. He was kind of amazed she tested positive for it, as it’s not super common. He said “what is it with you and these animals with bizarre hardly heard of infections? He spoke with an internist at length and we have a game plan. Peach is a little congested but doesn’t have any of the really tough symptoms which is a relief. And she’s been out and about a bit and I’ve certainly pet my cats after handling her, so them not showing signs of it is a good thing. He gave the cats distemper vaccines which will help lessen symptoms if she can’t get rid of it and does pass it to them, but we are hopeful that she can get rid of it. I’m balancing letting her be out and about so her smell can get into the house versus letting her get too close to the cats. Minnie wants absolutely nothing to do with her but Bud is curious and I can tell, if this works out, they’ll be good friends ,
Her herpes (also positive for that) viral load is low and almost all cats have that so he’s not worried. He’s also not worried that the stress of introducing a kitten will trigger Bud’s leukemia. So I’m more positive about keeping her but we will need to see what her labs come back with, I’ll do the right thing for her if it’s safer for everyone for her to be in a single cat household.
This entire process has been healing in a way that’s difficult to describe. I’ve dealt with some deep stuff that I couldn’t touch in 12 years of therapy. My intuitive coach is an energy worker and healer and at first I thought it was totally crazy, but I believe it now.
My vet and his assistant hung out for a while, I made them some cocktails, and we just chatted. He mentioned he was taking his staff to a Pink concert tonight right down the street and I told him they should stop by either before or after, I really want to meet his partner so he’s up for it! I feel like he could be a friend. If not, what an incredible blessing to have a Vet who will research and research and call and get second and third opinions. It’s such a blessing.
I’m hiding from the world. From the War. From the massacres. It’s clearly a privilege to do that. Shirley told me that the energy right now is something that the world has never experienced, and everyone, including animals, are all reacting to it. It’s a chance to elevate to our higher selves, it’s inviting us to do that, and the chaos is forcing us all to look at ourselves more deeply. Since the beginning of the year, I’ve had an odd foreboding about the future, like I couldn’t quite place it – I don’t think that means our future is over but I think things are changing in ways that none of us have ever experienced before.
I love all of you so much, you’re such an important part of my life and I’m so grateful you’re here to process my small but very valuable world with me. I take all of your comments to heart. Thank you for reading, thank you for your tolerance of me and giving me the grace to be raw and show the darker parts of myself as they come to the light.

It really is wild to already natrually have a lot of chronic medical conditions that are associated with Long Covid, and see so many people I know and love who are acutely aware of how much it has made my life a living hell still give up on masking and act like I'm silly for being petrified of catching it bcs if I survive it(and that's a pretty big if) it will likely make all of those problems infinitely worse, and also not seem to really care about potentially ending up with those issues themselves??
Like I have POTs, severe asthma that makes it hard for me to be physically active, hEDS which gives me hellish joint and muscle pain and nerve damage, and (probably) an auto-immune condition like ME/CFS that causes all kinds of problems, all of which is a cocktail of issues uncomfortably similar to Long Covid and there's nothing I could have done to prevent any of it. But I can vaccinate myself and social distance as best I can and wear a N95 mask everywhere to significantly lower the risk of any of those getting worse. But so many people I know see what I deal with and know what Long Covid is and yet STILL don't mask or prioritize getting vaccinated or social distance when they can. (And yes I know some of it is up to chance/luck but like, you can skew the odds in your favor!!)
I just don't get it tbh. They know how bad it is and yet they just keep rolling the dice every day. Genuinely makes me feel like one day I was crossing the street normally and got hit by a car, and everyone I know saw that happen and how it disabled me and yet they all keep jaywalking and ignoring traffic laws, seemingly ignorant of the fact that what happened to me can ABSOLUTELY happen to them.
Legit makes me feel insane.

Dr. Alice Holmes Headcanons
she hates being told what to do. Period. She’s rejected several proposals from O5 b/c they weren’t interesting to her at the time. They learned that they should just give several assignments and let her pick b/c the solutions she comes up with acc do work.
she’s also considered an anomaly due to the memetic effect. it occurred her memetic vaccinations as a side effect and now no one can look at her face w/o a headache. only dr. clef can look at it.
after receiving her degrees, she practically lives at the foundation sites, depending on where she’s stationed. she needs constant vit. D cause she never goes out
her lab notes are incoherent. her explanations are often incoherent. O5 wonders how any of containment practices work, but they do. gears hates her b/c of this
she’s quite fond of her researchers. the only way anyone can join her team is if she likes them enough to take them on. you try anything against her researchers? you’re absolutely dead
she hates whiteboards. she’s a chalkboard girl through and through. something about the smell of markers. she’d take the harmful powder of chalk any day.
one of the more docile patients of Dr. Glass. she goes to her appointments without fail or any threats. Glass is both perturbed and grateful for that. she’s a great patient unlike a certain immortal scientist
until a part of a site blew up b/c she created an ultimate molotov cocktail with dr. iceberg. there’s quite a bit of impulsive behavior there

This weekend, I got to attend the first @confabcon held in person since 2019. I had drifted away from the online-only cons partially because of scheduling and partially because 3 long days on Zoom is more than my back and my ADHD can handle. This weekend, everyone present agreed that there's no real online substitute for gathering physically with other fans who have a similar approach to fandom, especially since almost all other fannish interaction takes place online. An in-person con lets you be fannish out loud in a way that's almost never possible. It's also a reminder that other people in fandom are just folks with lives and jobs, which makes me feel far less alone in the universe. At a time when the news is making me feel even more isolated from much of humanity than usual, I really needed that feeling of solidarity and community.
Although my schedule will never stop being a mess that gets in the way of fun, Confab is an easy annual commitment to attempt, because it will always take place in Chicago, a short and painless drive away. I got to drive with a passenger for most of the weekend, and build a new friendship with them along the way. (Username redacted to protect privacy - not sure if you're comfortable having your location shared - but you know who you are, and you are very cool.)
The con was as COVID-19 safe as an in-person event could be, with masks and proof of vaccination required, air filters in every room, and many participants testing daily throughout the event. I know it's hard to enforce these rules at larger cons, but that's why I won't be attending larger cons anytime soon.
So I have a bunch of new mutuals who I'm fairly certain are real humans and not bots. This is exciting! You're here just in time for figure skating season; I probably should have warned you that the Grand Prix series is six weeks of gif dumps. There will also be a lot of cat photos and Star Trek. I tag for easy keyword blocking.
I also got to teach a bunch of people how to make cocktails and plan his-and-his custom drinks for Stede Bonnet and Edward Teach, which was maybe a bucket list accomplishment. There will be pics and recipes after some shopping and taste testing.
I'm so grateful for this fabulous weekend, and I already can't wait for next year!

The Infectious Colleague - Safety In Numbers
Tumblr media
No Pairings for this chapter, backstory on reader before she meets Joel and Tommy - pre-apocalypse [1.6k] Chapter Summary: Reader is a British biochemist, she works along side close friends, who are also her colleagues, to create vaccines for deadly diseases. Reader was one of the first to come in contact with an infected, her best friend and colleague - Amanda.
WARNINGS: BLOOD ,, GORE ,, CORDYCEPS ,, MENTIONS OF UNALIVING ,, TLOU AU ,, Masterlist ,, Chapter 2 (currently discontinued)
December 29th 2002 - The birthday outing
Y/n had just turned 21, her birthday celebrated with close friends. She just wanted a quiet night in but instead her best friend, Amanda and a few others, had dragged the poor girl out of her house and to a random club in town. The club was packed with people, their bodies rubbing up against others, sweat glistening their skin as they danced around - spilling their drinks on people in the process. Y/n wasn't feeling it, she wanted to watch a random movie from her collection that sat in a stack beside her DVD player. She wanted to snuggle up with her dog on her ratty, old couch that would surely be the reason she cried about her back aching in the morning.
Amanda brought over a bright yellow drink, probably some overly sweet cocktail. Y/n took a sip and then placed it back down, conversing with her friends about how they all had work tomorrow morning and they would all most likely be hungover. The group were having a good time until Amanda had told the group her "boyfriend" was here and he wanted to spend time with her. Y/n knew exactly what was happening, her best friend was hooking up with some dude she had known for like a month. Y/n had told her friend to be safe and to call her when she was home, in which the girl nodded her head and gave her friend a hug goodbye. If only Y/n knew that was going to be the last time she would ever see her best friend.
----
December 30th 2002 - The first case in London, England
Y/n woke up to a thumping in her head, she knew it was stupid to go drinking last night. Just because it was her birthday didn't justify drinking her weight in alcohol, it was stupid. Y/n got out of bed and started getting ready for work, she took a shower, got changed, ate breakfast and then left her house; she was definitely not ready for the day. When she had finally made it to work, she was 10 minutes late, though it seemed like everyone else was running late too. Y/n sat down on her side of the lab, her notebook out and placed on the table as she took off her jacket and replaced it with her lab coat. Half an hour had passed and still no one had showed up, Amanda was nowhere to be seen and she was always the first to show up; still wearing the clothes from the night before. Y/n sighed, reaching into her pocket and pulling her phone out, she sent texts to everyone that was meant to be there today.
The door opened, revealing one of Y/n's colleagues - Josh. His hair was a mess, clothes wrinkled, he looked like he had the flu. His body was spasming ever so slightly, he greeted her with a small smile before sitting down across from her. "Hey, Josh. Have you seen Amanda? She's not answering my messages." The young boy shook his head, he told her the last time he saw Amanda was last night at the club. Y/n texted her friend again before she could send it though, Amanda had burst through the door; her body thrashing about, vine like things slithering under her skin. Her eyes landed on Josh and then Y/n, the pair were frozen - staring at the possessed looking girl in front of them. Then there was a shriek, it came from Amanda. Her body lurched forward, attacking Josh. Biting down into his flesh, the sound of tearing skin emitted throughout the lab, blood spewing out the side of his neck.
Y/n screamed before running out of the room, her mind in a panic. What was that thing? It was Amanda, but it wasn't. The sound of heavy footfalls sounded from behind the frantic girl, she turned her head and saw some feral version of her best friend chasing her down the hall. Blood, still wet, was around her mouth and dripped down her neck, soaking into the collar of her shirt. The blood curdling scream that left her throat was deafening, it was like an alarm signal - notifying others like her where she is. Y/n turned the corner, she was edging closer and closer to the exit, she could almost reach the door before she was ripped away from it. Her body was thrown to the floor, Amanda was still down the hall so who in the world just tackled her to the ground? Josh stood above her, the wound on his neck still bleeding but it also had the same vines coming out of it as Amanda has under her skin. Then it all clicked, Y/n didn't just work as a biochemist for fun, it was something she really enjoyed. The signs her two colleagues were suffering from had to be from a virus but then it made her think more - Amanda bit Josh but he was already exhibiting sign before than but it must've kicked up the process so it had to be a virus that could only be transmitted through person to person, like biting them and drawing blood or maybe even kissing them and they have a cut in their mouth. Y/n didn't now what was causing it but she didn't like it, she wanted it to stop.
Josh had pinned Y/n to the ground, his full weight on her as his jaw snapped at her trying to sink his teeth into her skin. With all her strength, she kicked him off of her. His body sliding across the floor, hitting the wall behind him. Y/n picked up the closest thing to her, a vase, and hit Josh in the head over and over again until he stopped thrashing about - his blood smeared on the floor and all over her hands. Amanda's screams were getting closer, she knew she had to put her friend out of her misery, Y/n just hopes she doesn't make the wrong decision. She puts all her strength into the next swing she makes, the vase connecting with her best friends skull. Blow after blow, until her blood is caked all over Y/n's hands. Tears trail down her face as she hold her best friends body in her arms, fingers stroking her hair as she sobs. "I'm so sorry, I'm so sorry. Please forgive me." Was all Y/n could repeat, over and over again.
------
A week later - January 6th 2003
Y/n had quit work and decided to try and turn her life around, though she didn't know how. She sat in her room thinking over everything that had happened in the last week, what she had done to Amanda and Josh - their motionless bodies covered in blood ingrained in her mind. Y/n didn't feel like doing anything, let alone sitting here while her friend was dead. She pushed the thoughts away as she got up to take a shower, she needed to continue living even if she didn't have the energy to anymore.
After a few days of not doing basic human tasks, Y/n finally got out of bed and cleaned up her house and giving her landlord a notice that she would be moving out in the next month, just enough time for her to find a new house and to clear out all of her things to start a new life. She knew it was going to be tough, leaving everything behind but she had to, staying in the one place that held so many memories of Amanda wasn't helping her at all. No matter where she would go, even if it was to just go into the living room because she forgot something, it all reminded her of Amanda, the way she would get excited when David Bowie would come on the radio or how she did her hair in the morning - it made Y/n feel like she betrayed her best friend. She had to leave, find a place no one knew her and start over.
The next couple weeks were tough, packing up her life and talking to her new landlord to settle the date she would move in. Boxes were filled to the brim with books, random decorations, DVD's and music CD's. Y/n's clothes and other personal belongings were packed into various suitcases, her life now fitting into a few boxes and bags - seeing everything put away made her belongings look little, like she didn't own much. Y/n looked around her house once more, storing her memories away in the back of her mind as she picked up the last remaining things before leaving the building. She sent a message to the movers letting them know the key to the house was under a potted plant beside the door and what things needed to be put in the back of the van for moving. In a few hours she would be starting a new life, saying she was scared would be an understatement - Y/n didn't know how to feel, this was her first time leaving the country and she was petrified.

They are drastically lowering protein in chicken feed to make them stop laying eggs.
Why? 🤔
Are they now vaccinating hens with Covid vaccines so it passes into their eggs which would then go into our bodies when we eat the eggs?
This would be known as forced vaccination without consent and most people will be unaware that they will be ingesting an unknown cocktail within the egg yolks.
I'm just passing on what I find so don't shoot the messenger... You Decide⁉️🤔

Spell Energetics: How to Apply the concept of Herbal Energetics to your spell work
Tumblr media
Note: I'm drawing here from my knowledge of herbal energetics as they are recognized in multiple herbalism systems, my knowledge of astrology, and the concepts of sympathetic magic - if this isn't your thing, please just move along.
The four elements and the concepts of Energetics run consistently through the framework of much of the Western magic systems but it's something that is often overlooked. Suppose rather than relegating the elements to something that we call upon ritualistically to join us in our magic works (or, that must be represented on an altar), we instead stop and consider what they are, and what they do. In that case, we can gain a deeper understanding of how magic works on a human being.
The idea of the four elements and their associated qualities (dry, warm, cool, and moist - now known as herbal energetics) comes from the Athenian philosopher Aristotle. The fire element is warm, the earth element is cool, the air element is dry, and the water element is wet. This shows a remarkable difference from the modern astrological association of earth being opposed to water, and air to fire as it is shown on the astrological wheel; here, hot is opposed to cold (fire to earth) and dry to wet (air to water). It is worth noting that this can be somewhat proven through action - earth puts out fire, for instance. Today, we understand that there is more to healthfulness than balancing energetics (thank you antibiotics, vaccines, and insert your favorite modern medical miracle here) but there are still a number of views on wellness that encourage considering them. Maybe someday I will write more of this and how it relates to synastry, but let's focus on how this can be used in magic.
From here, we need to take a dive into modern herbalism. Why are we doing this? Because most people use all sorts of herbal components as ingredients in our spells and many of our correspondences have their roots in how that plant matter interacts with the human body. One of the major considerations when choosing an herb is what its Action is on the human body. These actions include Heating (Warm/Fire), Cooling (Cool/Water), Drying (Dry/Air), and Wetting (Moist/Water).
We use these actions all of the time without even knowing that we are doing them. Most cocktail people know that you want to drink a Mint Julip in the summer to cool you down (mint is a Cooling herb). On the other hand, if you need a pick me up, Chai tea which is full of warming herbs - even noncaffeinated versions like Bengal Spice - does the trick. The marshmallow (a Moist herb) does the coating of the throat in "Throat Coat" tea. The conditions of warm/cool/dry/moist are so normal to use as human beings that we tend to overlook them and adjust for them automatically.
With this in mind, I want to bring up a few ways in which this can be applied in witchcraft.
Warm is nice and pleasant. A lot of the warming herbs are used in money and sex magic - they make us feel good. But, like any good thing, they might need to be consumed in moderation. Candles carry the innate action of warmth and just think about how important fire safety is. Some herbs that warm cannot always be handled with bare hands (spicy peppers cause capsaicin burns) and these have long-documented uses in baneful magics of all kinds.
Cool magic can be used to calm and control. It can be used to put a particular situation on ice so that you don't have to deal with it. It can bring down fevers. It can soothe bad tempers and hot-headedness. It can preserve. It can also protect and insulate.
Dry magic can also be used to preserve. It can dry up emotions and stifle passion. It can draw out something or draw something away from a situation. It can create space.
Moist magic can be overflowing and generous. It can also be stagnant and suffocating. Moisture can revive life. It can also drown it.
It is worth noting that all aspects of these factors are always present in our lives. And they don't exist in a vacuum - everything is a combination of the two Aristotlean categories: you have Warm Moist or Warm Dry, and Cool Moist or Cool Dry.
We use these principles in magic all of the time. Anytime that you are using a liquid in a jar spell, you are applying the concept of Moist. If you are applying salt or rice to drain an object, you are using the concept of Dry. A freezer spell is an obvious example of Cool and any time that you are burning something you are using the concept of Warm.
But let's go a step further. If you are trying to do a warming spell, wouldn't it make sense to use specifically only warming herbs - or, at least - herbs that don't counteract Warmth (aka abstain from using cooling herbs?). Remember, these herbs have a natural and calculable effect on the human body so one would assume that, when used as part of a spell directed at a human body, they will have a similar effect. Even if you're a total candle head (I get it - I LOVE candle magic), consider not adding a candle to a spell meant to freeze somebody out.
When casting a hex, it is worth considering whether you want to burn them out with fire or take the slower more calculated path of ice. (Stop me from quoting Robert Frost here...) If you need to separate a couple who thrives on relationship conflict, drying them out could be a good option - more specifically, I'd probably use cool/dry.
Really we are getting into the basics of all sympathetic magic: using a thing that has an obvious effect to transfer that effect, through our spell, to the spell's intended target. This is why I have been very specific in saying that this applies to magic cast on a human being - here we are using the principles of Energetics and how they affect humans. For a spell on an animal or your house, entirely different sympathetic principles would apply.
The next time that you are choosing between two herbs that are said to have the same associations, consider whether one might be better than the other based on the Energetic nature of that plant. You might find a whole new level of casting open up to you.
Do you like my work? You can support my writing by tipping me over on Kofi.

Communique from a Nobody
There may be a few who have noticed that I am posting less regularly these days, and even fewer who may miss the images I post and my own little poems. A bit under the weather these days, suffering from the effects of vicious cocktail made up of my allergies and the side effects from my 5th Covid vaccine. It's dreadful and isolating and, worse, I've had to cancel some classes which represent a loss of both the spirit-sustaining joy they bring me, and my future triumphs against the landlord.
To those for whom it matters, I will be back to my usual presence here, I hope. Until then, your faithful Nobody

Got bookclub later at 5. Got an hour left
Well if it makes you feel better, I am also stuck at home for my family belated Christmas extend family party. I'd realized during cleaning up the house how much I loathe the holidays. Oh yeah, my mom is now dating and Danny is coming over.
I've got myself non-alcoholic Prohibition cocktails that I got for myself. I've been going back and forth between a walkthrough of Spider-Man: Miles Morales on Youtube, curse you Youtube and your anti-ad blocker stance and Top Chef.
As much as I love my family like my sister and her fiancé like on politics and I can be more queer, be myself. One of cousins brings the drama; but I can't be myself around my extended family. It sucks. Because during my Uncle memorial service at a Cowboy Church, I felt like I was being proselytized; I wanted to leave because I was that uncomfortable; I don't know if your area has a Cowboy Church, but think surface level cowboy aesthetics, Methodist with the megachurch vibes of evangelical.
Have a hug!
