House Velaryon after the Dance of the Dragons
I know that after the Dance of the Dragons House Velaryon lost a lot of their wealth, however, they were still a prestigious House, and had gained a lot of treasures that Alyn acquired in his travels.
Alyn married Baela, and later was involved with Elaena, and Rhaena was the one who reconciled House Velaryon and House Targaryen after that falling out.
Very probably King Daeron II Targaryen had to give the hand of a cousin of his to a Marcher House (my headcanon is House Caron) to still keep them in their good graces and still make use of the connection of the Velaryons to the Targaryens.
It's probable Aelinor Penrose married a Velaryon lord after the death of Aerys I Targaryen, as she was still young and fertile, and this time Aelinor could marry a man willing to give her children with whom she could create an alliance.
And either Rhae or Daella (the daughters of Maekar and Dyanna) as well could have married a Velaryon as a strategy as it would be a good alliance for either of them, as they would strengthen their Valyrian blood.
Vaella (the daughter of Daeron the Drunken and Kiera) and Maegor (the son of Aerion Bright flame and Daenora) must have married into House Velaryon, with Maegor taking the name Velaryon as an agreement, as they were Targaryens who had lost the crown.

Viserys said "Dragons did not mate with beasts of the field" and was a creep to Dany. Daemon Blackfyre felt entitled to having Princess Daenerys as his bride. Is it possible that Aerion, who saw himself as a dragon reborn, thought he was "owed" a marriage with one of his sisters? The timing of Egg's birth makes me wonder if Dyanna had him so close to Daella's age so Maekar would betroth Daella to Aegon instead of the sadistic Aerion.
Do I think that Aerion might have assumed, or even demanded, that he would marry one of his sisters out of an inflated sense of Targaryen superiority? I think it’s certainly possible. That Aerion was willing to torture his younger brother using the tradition of Targaryen incestuous marriage as the basis of his threat may well suggest that Aerion harbored some resentment or jealousy at Egg’s (again, for now only theorized) betrothal to Daella compared to his, Aerion’s, lack of a similar incestuous betrothal. Nor can it be understated the level to which Aerion embraced the arrogance of Targaryen royal superiority (and, of course, married that arrogance to his personal sadism), with Aerion viciously attacking Tanselle for (as he saw) insulting House Targaryen with the dragon death in her puppet show and asking for Dunk’s head because Dunk dared to lay hands on one of the blood royal. At the same time, there is nothing as yet to suggest that Aerion necessarily knew that he would not be married to a sister - if Daella were (again, speculatively) Egg’s fiancée, there might have remained the possibility in Aerion’s mind that he could marry Rhae - nor indeed any suggestion that Aerion actually demanded or expressed the opinion that he was actually owed one of his sisters in marriage.
Do I think Maekar and Dyanna specifically conceived Egg out of a desire (by one or both parents) to keep Aerion from marrying Daella? I personally doubt it. Even if Dyanna and/or Maekar thought that it would be expected of them to marry their new daughter to one of their own sons - already an uncertain conclusion when Daeron II had moved away from incestuous marriages for his sons - and even if either or both wanted to avoid betrothing Aerion and Daella (assuming that Aerion had by then demonstrated his true sadistic nature to one or both of his parents - again, uncertain when Aerion was said to be all smiles around his father) - there was nothing to say that Maekar and Dyanna would or could not have then betrothed young Daella to Daeron or even Aemon (not yet destined for the Citadel when Daella was born, given that he was sent when he was 10 and that Aemon was himself only a year older than his sister). Nor do I think there is anything particularly suspicious or intriguing about the birth dates of Maekar and Dyanna’s children: Daeron and Aerion were around one to three years apart, Aerion and Aemon somewhere between four and eight years apart, Aemon, Daella, and Egg each a year apart, and then Rhae somewhere between a year and nine years younger than Egg (although I’d personally guess on the closer end of that spectrum, given their interactions in childhood). Rather than trying to fix the record, as it were, to prevent an incestuous union for Aerion, Maekar and Dyanna were, I think, simply having children in the ordinary course of (at least apparently) amicable Westerosi marriages.
It’s worth pointing out, of course, that Aerion did go on to marry a relative - not a sister but a cousin, Daenora, the daughter of his paternal uncle Rhaegel. It remains to be seen exactly why Aerion married Daenora, and indeed what any of the parties involved felt about the union. Was this a compromise with Alys Arryn when Maekar came to the throne - that while Daeron would marry Kiera of Tyrosh (thus, perhaps, preserving the anti-Blackfyre Tyroshi alliance), Aerion would marry Aerys I’s sometime heiress, giving her a mainline royal marriage while not making Daeron’s claim depend on Daenora? Was this Alys’ own ambition coming to the fore, perhaps after Daeron’s death (maybe around the mid- or late 220s AC) - seeing that, with the late heir’s only child being a “simple” girl, the path was open to have a grandson via Daenora sit the Iron Throne? Was this Aerion’s own desire, to seize the nearest Targaryen relative he could in order to assert the superiority of the Targaryen line (and his superiority within that line)? Was this a move of desperation on the part of Maekar - that Aerion’s deplorable behavior (made more public, perhaps, after he killed Haegon Blackfyre following the latter’s surrender in the Third Blackfyre Rebellion) had cooled the desire of aristocratic Westerosi families to seek a marriage with him, and that cousin Daenora was simply the only choice available and willing to marry him (and provide male heirs where Daeron the Drunken had not)? The marriage could have been made for any of these reasons, any combination of these reasons, or completely different reasons; we shall have to wait for Fire and Blood Volume 2. (But somebody stop me before I start wildly speculating on Alys Arryn as a figure like Mahaut of Artois in The Accursed Kings.)

Daella and Rhae Targaryen 🐉 daughters of Maekar Targaryen and Dyanna Dayne
I'm obsessed with putting my drawings into an AI to make them much more detailed🤣The fact of drawing on the cell phone makes me very uncomfortable and I always make the drawings very simple. Please don't judge me, I'm just doing this for fun.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I like the fact that (in my opinion) both drawings were very similar in terms of the appearance of the characters 🤨 which I love, because they are sisters and they really look alike! Except for the hair of course 🤣

ASOIAF FANCASTING --> EVERY NAMED FEMALE CHARACTER ABOVE THE AGE OF FIVE, PART XV
Cyrelle Tarbeck (b. 241 AC): Daughter of Lady Ellyn Reyne and her second husband, Walderan Tarbeck. She had an older sister, Rohanne, and a younger brother, Tion. When House Reyne and Tarbeck were crushed by Tywin Lannister, Cyrelle's brother, husband and father were all killed. Cyrelle and her sister were sent to the silent sisters. Fancast: Riley Keough.
Cyrenna Swann (c. 230-255 AC): Second wife of Lord Walder Frey and mother to two sons. Fancast: Lára Jóhanna Jónsdóttir.
Dacey Mormont (c. 272-299 AC): Eldest daughter and heir of Lady Maege Mormont of Bear Island. She is an accomplished warrior and rides with King Robb Stark in the War of the Five Kings. She is murdered by House Frey at the Red Wedding. Fancast: Natalie Hoflin.
Daella Targaryen (64-82 AC): Fourth-born daughter of Jaehaerys I and Good Queen Alysanne. She was delicate and shy, and was bullied by her younger sister Saera. Many eligible lords and sons of lords courted her, but in the end she chose to wed Lord Rodrik Arryn, who was more than twice her age, but a gentle man who would take care of her. Unfortunately, Daella fell pregnant and died shortly after delivering a healthy baby girl, Aemma. Fancast: Elle Fanning.
Daella Targaryen (b. 199 AC): Eldest daughter of Prince Maekar Targaryen, who would later become king as Maekar I, and his wife Dyanna Dayne. Her mother died when she was under 10. She had four brothers, including Aegon the Unlikely, and one sister, Rhae. Fancast: Therica Wilson-Read.
Daena (main series era): A mummer at the Gate in Braavos. Fancast: Jodelle Ferland.
Daena Targaryen (c. 145-175 AC): Eldest daughter of King Aegon III and his wife Daenaera Velaryon. Her two elder brothers, Daeron and Baelor, became kings consecutively after her father's death. She was married to Baelor at the age of fifteen, but he refused to consummate the marriage. When Daeron was killed in Dorne and Baelor became king, he annulled their marriage and locked Daena away in the Maidenvault with her two younger sisters, so that they would not tempt any man. Daena hated this unjust imprisonment and became more and more defiant, finally giving birth to a bastard son that turned out to be fathered by her cousin Aegon. Baelor, aghast, fasted for forty days after the boy's birth and eventually collapsed and died. Many thought that Daena, being Aegon III's oldest surviving child, would become queen, but she was without political support during her imprisonment and the throne passed to her uncle Viserys instead. Daena's son would go on to become Daemon Blackfyre, who sought a crown for himself and caused the ruinous Blackfyre Rebellions. Fancast: Ellen Hollman.
Daenaera Velaryon (b. 127 AC): Second wife and queen of Aegon III and mother to five children. She was presented to Aegon at the age of six at the Maiden's Day Ball after the death of his first wife, Jaehaera. They were wed later that year, but their first child was not born until ten years later. Fancast: Alicia Agneson.
Daenerys Targaryen (53-60 AC): Eldest daughter and first child to survive infancy of Jaehaerys I and Good Queen Alysanne. She died of the Shivers when she was no more than seven. Fancast: Olivia Tennet.
Daenerys Targaryen (b. 172 AC): Only legitimate daughter of Aegon the Unworthy and his wife, Queen Naerys. At the time of her birth, her elder brother Daeron was already married and had a son. Daeron had been married to Princess Myriah Martell as part of the peace pact between Baelor I and Dorne. When Daenerys was fifteen, she was married to Maron Martell, the ruling prince of Dorne. With this marriage, Dorne was finally brought into the Seven Kingdoms under Targaryen rule. It was rumoured that Daenerys had been in love with her bastard half-brother, Daemon Blackfyre, and that her marriage to Maron instigated the First Blackfyre Rebellion, but Daenerys and Maron were, by all accounts, happy together. Maron built the Water Gardens as a gift for Daenerys, where their children could play in the summer heat along with the children of other nobles. It was Daenerys who declared that the children of the servants could play there too, starting a tradition that continues to this day. Fancast: Sinja Dieks.

TARGARYEN NOVEMBER 2021
↳ Day 20: Couple(s): Targaryen + Non-Targaryen
Marriage matches for the sons of Daeron II:
Prince Baelor was born in 170 AC, the first child of King Daeron II Targaryen and Queen Myriah Martell. After the death of his grandfather, King Aegon IV Targaryen, in 184 AC, Prince Baelor became the heir to the Iron Throne and was later given the title of Prince of Dragonstone by his father. Baelor married Lady Jena Dondarrion, with whom he had two sons, Valarr and Matarys, both of whom died in the Great Spring Sickness. Prince Baelor served as his father's Hand of the King from 196 AC until his accidental death at the hand of his youngest brother Maekar in 209 AC.
Prince Aerys was the second son of King Daeron II Targaryen and Queen Myriah Martell. He was married to his cousin, Lady Aelinor Penrose, but he never showed any interest in getting her with child, instead shunning her bed. According to rumor, Aerys did not even consummate the marriage. In 209 AC, following the death of his father, King Daeron II Targaryen, Aerys became King. As Aerys had not yet fathered a child on his wife Aelinor, his small council, urged him to set Aelinor aside and take another wife. Aerys would not hear of it, however, and they remained married. It was said that Queen Aelinor would pray at the Great Sept of Baelor daily, beseeching the Mother Above to bless her with a child to no avail. Throughout his reign, Aerys acknowledged four different heirs. First was his brother Rhaegel, then Rhaegel's only son Aelor, followed by Rhaegel's daughter Aelora, but they all died. Aerys then recognized his youngest brother Maekar as his heir and he went on to succeed Aerys in 221 AC after his death.
Prince Rhaegel was the third son of King Daeron II Targaryen and Queen Myriah Martell. Rhaegel was meek, mad, and sickly. During the reign of his brother King Aerys I, it was widely believed that Rhaegel was crazy. Rhaegel was married to Lady Alys Arryn, and had three children: the twins Aelor and Aelora, and daughter Daenora. He became Prince of Dragonstone in 209 AC, when his older brother Prince Aerys ascended the Iron Throne. Rhaegel died in 215 AC, whilst choking on a lamprey pie. His son, Prince Aelor, the new Prince of Dragonstone, would not long outlive him.
Prince Maekar was the fourth son of King Daeron II Targaryen and Queen Myriah Martell and was not expected to rule. Maekar was given the Targaryen summer residence of Summerhall for his own seat and became known as the Prince of Summerhall. He married young, to Lady Dyanna Dayne, and they had four sons and two daughters, Daeron, Aerion, Aemon, Daella, Aegon and Rhae. Dyanna died before 209 AC, well before Maekar's ascendance to the Iron Throne in 221 AC following several unexpected deaths in the royal family, and thus she never became queen consort. In 233 AC, Maekar fell in battle fighting a rebellious lord on the Dornish Marches during the Peake Uprising.  Maekar was succeeded by his fourth son, Aegon V Targaryen, after a Great Council was convened to resolve the political chaos.

Tenía a menudo sueños proféticos.
Prince Daeron Targaryen, sometimes called Daeron the Drunk, was the eldest son and heir to King Maekar I Targaryen and Lady Dyanna Dayne.
Daeron had sallow skin, sandy brown hair, and a blond beard. He did not share the hobbies of a gentleman, he detested riding as well as swords, preferring drink and brothels instead. He often had prophetic dreams.
Born in 190 AD, Prince Daeron was the eldest son of then-Prince Maekar Targaryen and Lady Dyanna Dayne. He had five younger brothers, Aerion, Aemon, Aegon, Rhae, and Daella. It was named after his grandfather, King Daeron II Targaryen.
Maekar sends his sons Daeron and Aegon to the Ashford Tournament, hoping they will outshine his brother Baelor's son, Prince Valarr. Daeron, who feared horses and weapons, decided to hide from his escort, taking his brother and squire Aegon with him. He shaved Aegon's head to hide his Targaryen features and went to an inn, aiming to get drunk. It was there that he lost track of his younger brother.
Thinking that something must have happened to his children, Maekar goes out to find them. When they find Daeron, he says that a knight of enormous stature had taken Aegon. Later, he apologizes to Ser Duncan for lying and tells him that he had no idea that Aegon was gone. In addition, he tells her about a dream he had had. In it, a great red dragon fell on Ser Duncan, but he got up and came out alive. Daeron told him that he did not know the meaning of the dream, but that they frequently came true, so he was worried about him.
Daeron also told Ser Duncan that he was not going to fight, and that during the first joust of the Trial of Seven he planned to stay on the ground pretending he had been defeated, and also to withdraw his accusations. At the trial, Daeron was dismounted by Ser Robyn Rhysling, and he delivered on his promise, remaining lying on the fair ground. His own horse passed over him, but was not seriously injured. It turned out in the end that Daeron's dream was a true prophecy, as Prince Baelor Targaryen died in Dunk's arms, following a fatal blow to the head from Prince Maekar.
Following his father's ascension to the Iron Throne and now his heir, Prince Daeron preferred to be known as the Prince of Summer Haven rather than using the traditional title Prince of Dragonstone, as he regarded this place as a gloomy residence.
Daeron married Lady Kiera of Tyrosh, and in AD 222 He had with her a daughter, Princess Vaella, who turned out to be retarded. Maester Aemon served in his elder brother's stronghold, until Daeron died of a plague spread by a prostitute. The matter of the succession to the Iron Throne would be resolved in 233 AD, after the celebration of a Great Council.
Would you really think that he could be king? Although he would have been the first drunken king before Robert Baratheon.

So... Targaryen traits are dominant or not? Because when a Targ woman married a non-Targ man the firstborn will be always look like the father and then the rest of the children will have a Targ look. The same thing happens if a Targ man married a non-Targ woman: the firstborn’s traits will be the ones of the non-Targ parent. What do you think about the genetics in House Targaryen?❤️🖤
Well Targ genes tend to be recessive when it comes to the firstborn in most Targ x Non-Targ pairings but later children seem to inherit Targ traits. The first instance was obviously Aemon xJocelyn (dark-haired) = Rhaenys (dark-haired) but then Daella married Rodrick Arryn and their daughter Aemma was presumably Targ featured. And Alicent's children were all silver-haired/purple-eyed (she clearly didn't top Viserys... or anything else for that matter lmao). Rhaena of Pentos married Garmund Hightower and had 6 daughters, I'm ready to bet that's where House Hightower got its silver-haired streak from. Other instances include Aegon IV x Barba = Aegor, Daeron II x Myriah = Baelor, Maekar x Dyanna = Daeron, Egg x Betha = Duncan, Rhaegar x Elia = Rhaenys, Rhaegar x Lyanna = Jon. I'm sure someone has a proper genetically analytical post on this but I stand by my theory here lol.

🐲THE TARGARYEN TAG🐲
🐲🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🐲
1. Your favourite/least favourite Targaryen: a lot of contenders for either spot but I think for favorite I’m going to go with Rhaena, Queen in the West/East and for least favorite mm Rhaegar
2. Underrated Targaryen: Daeron II
3. Snog/Marry/Avoid Targaryens: Baelor/Egg/Maegor
4. A Targaryen who deserved better: AEREA, Naerys, Daella, Rhaella, Rhaenys (Elia and Rhaegar’s daughter), Aegon (Elia and Rhaegar’s son), Rhaenys the Queen who Never Was, Helaena, Jaehaera, Gael, Viserra, Alyssa, Aemma
5. OTP Targaryens: the incest still squicks me out but I guess Baelon and Alyssa, they had so little time together but seemed to really love each other; if I can include non-Targaryens here then Aemon x Jocelyn, Maekar x Dyanna and Egg x Betha

You may have touched this already but I was wondering if trying to have kids with a targaryen (if you are not also a targaryen) was always almost a death sentence? Ellia Martell survived, but barely. Lyanna couldn't handle the fire and blood, and the possibility of Joanna Lannister? (Unsure if that was just a fan theory or a plausible possibility) is that why targaryens interbred so much?
……no?
Lots of non-Targaryen women had many children with Targaryens with no trouble at all. Here’s a list:
Alyssa Velaryon, queen of King Aenys: 6 children
Alicent Hightower, queen of King Viserys I: 4 children
Daenaera Velaryon, queen of King Aegon III: 5 children
Larra Rogare, wife of Prince Viserys II: 3 children
Megette, mistress of King Aegon IV:4 daughters
Bellegere Otherys, mistress of King Aegon IV:3 children
Barba Bracken, mistress of King Aegon IV:1 son
Melissa Blackwood, mistress of King Aegon IV: 3 children
Mariah Martell, queen of King Daeron II: 4 sons
Jena Dondarrion, wife of Prince Baelor: 2 sons
Alys Arryn, wife of Prince Rhaegel: 3 children
Dyanna Dayne, wife of Prince Maekar: 6 children
Kiera of Tyrosh, wife of Prince Valarr: twin sons that were apparently stillborn (possibly because of the Great Spring Sickness, which definitely killed her husband); she survived and married Prince Daeron: 1 daughter
Betha Blackwood, queen of King Aegon V: 5 children
Also note that Targaryen or Valyrian ancestry, or an incestuous marriage, was no guarantee of surviving childbirth:
Aemma Arryn (daughter of Daella Targaryen), queen of King Viserys I (her first cousin): 1 living daughter, 1 son died in infancy, another a day after birth, multiple miscarriages; she died in childbirth
Laena Velaryon, wife of Prince Daemon (her first cousin once removed): 2 living twin daughters, 1 malformed son who died within an hour; she died from childbed fever 3 days later
Naerys Targaryen, queen of King Aegon IV (her brother): 2 living children separated by almost 20 years, multiple difficult pregnancies (including stillbirths) between them; she died in childbirth
Serenei of Lys (of an ancient Valyrian family), mistress of King Aegon IV: 1 daughter; she died in childbirth
Rhaella Targaryen, queen of King Aerys II (her brother; also their parents were siblings): 3 children, the first followed by 17 years of multiple stillbirths, miscarriages, and children dead in infancy; she died in childbirth
And that only makes sense – because incest sometimes leads to reinforced bad genes, it’s more dangerous to the child than otherwise (non-viable fetuses, etc); and in a pre-Pasteur/Semmelweis level of medicine, what leads to dead newborns often leads to dead mothers. :(
For the rest: Targaryens practiced incest “to keep the blood of the dragon pure”. The practice came from Valyria, where it was common among dragonlord families. GRRM was inspired by the incestuous marriages of the Ptolemaic dynasty of Egypt, where they interbred to keep their Macedonian blood pure. Elia Martell did not have the best health due to her premature birth, Lyanna was barely 16 and thus a dangerous pregnancy (see also), and Tyrion is Tywin’s son. I hope that helps.

Did Daella Targaryen have light brown hair like her brother Daeron? I always see in fanart of Maekar's family that Daella is brunette while Rhae is silver-haired (which makes me wonder if a brunette Daella would have an easier time passing off her baby as Lord Tarths if she had an affair with Dunk). Could she be the "slender as a spear" girl in Bran's vision that kissed Dunk or that some other woman Dunk fathered a child on?
That's a very good question, on Daella’s appearance. We have no idea what either of the sisters of Aegon V looked like (nor, indeed, their mother, Dyanna Dayne, although ahem I hardly expect more on that front). It is entirely possible that Daella would have looked more like brother Daeron than brothers Aerion and Aegon and shared Daeron’s “common hair, sort of a pale brown” (which Dunk himself described as “sandy brown”). It is likewise possible that if Daella did look like this and if she did have a child with Dunk who was passed off as Lord Tarth’s child (I feel it was specifically Daella, although either of Egg’s sisters is possible), then the Tarths (and everyone else) suspected nothing because the baby might have seemed to resemble Daella (rather than Dunk with his “sun-streaked” hair). (It is probably too far right now to extrapolate this connection to Dunk’s descendant Brienne and her hair the color of “dirty straw”, given how little we know about the intervening Tarth dynasts and their spouses, but the connection could be there if GRRM would choose to make it in the future.) This is all complete conjecture and guesswork now, of course (and it’s entirely possible Daella looked nothing like her siblings - after all, Queen Alysanne with her blue eyes and golden curls did not resemble either of her parents or her two longest-surviving siblings), but it remains an intriguing possibility.
However, I don’t think it is remotely likely that the girl in this particular vision is Daella Targaryen. Remember that Bran is, in this moment, seeing what happened in front of Winterfell’s heart tree. There is absolutely no reason I can imagine why Daella, especially Daella as a “girl” (as seen in the vision), would be at Winterfell with Dunk and Egg, nor any evidence suggesting that would have been the case. (After all, the North was literally at war with the ironborn in this period, so much so that Lord Beron Stark was mortally wounded during the fighting - would Maekar have really allowed his adolescent daughter to go there, when it’s far from usual for girls to be fostered outside the context of marriage arrangements or familial connections?) Whether the girl in the vision ends up being (not yet) Old Nan (popularly theorized, given the explicit allusion to Hodor in the knight’s height and Nan’s familial relationship with him) or another girl at Winterfell (who was there presumably roughly around 212 AC, when whatever “The She-Wolves of Winterfell” ends up being called takes place), I really don’t think it could be Daella.
