so I've been compiling a list of all the Targaryens whose cause of death we know, and almost all of those missing from the list are women: Septa Rhaella, Daena the Defiant and her sisters, Daenora and her son Maegor, Vaella, Aegon V's sisters Daella and Rhae, Dany's grandmother Shaera and her sister Rhaelle. do you have any theories or worries about how these women may be revealed to have died in F&B 2?
What, me worry about GRRM falling back on death in childbirth in order to get rid of female characters? What, me worry about GRRM showing less interest in female characters compared to their male counterparts? Who could ever have gotten that idea?
(Also I’m assuming you’re only talking about female Targaryens by birth who died post-Fire and Blood Volume 1, because we also don’t know exactly how Visenya died, or Rhaena daughter of Aenys I, or Jaehaerys and Alysanne’s daughter Saera, or if we’re being really technical Aenys’ youngest daughter, Vaella - and that’s not even counting Jaehaerys and Alysanne’s maternal half-sister and later daughter-in-law Jocelyn Baratheon.)
Anyway, yes, I am definitely concerned. My current position is that until and unless we have information guaranteeing that any given female Targaryen did not die in childbirth, I’m mentally preparing myself for news that they died in childbirth. Aegon III’s sisters Baela and/or Rhaena? May have died in childbirth. (I don’t like to think of the implications of killing the former like that in the context of her possibly declining marriage to Alyn and his relationship with Elaena.) Daenora? May have died in childbirth. (Unless she is more like The Accursed Kings’ Clemence of Hungary as the wife of the partial-Louis X-like Aerion Brightflame - I’ll have to think about that in another post.) Maekar’s daughters Daella and/or Rhae? May have died in childbirth. (Although hopefully the former’s possible romance with Dunk will save her.) Egg’s daughter Rhaelle? May have died in childbirth.
And even if childbirth isn’t involved, that doesn’t mean we’ll necessarily get any information on what ultimately happened to these ladies. Given how little GRRM apparently wished to have Dowager Queen Alyssa, crown princess Jocelyn Baratheon, or Princess Alyssa involved in the lives of their royal children, I don’t have a lot of confidence in, say, Queen Shaera lasting long after the accession of Jaehaerys II. Given how little GRRM detailed the lives or ultimate fates of the princess (and would-be heiress)-turned-septa Rhaella and the mentally disabled Princess Gael, I’m not at all confident that GRRM will spend much time on the fate of the princess-turned-septa Rhaena or the mentally disabled would-be heiress Vaella. The lack of any mention of Daena in TWOIAF, especially in connection with her son’s eventual rebellion (remember that she would only have been 51 at the time of the First Blackfyre Rebellion), doesn’t give me a lot of confidence in her surviving long past the birth of Daemon.
(Still hoping that Princess Elaena lives to be 70 and not only gets to be GRRM’s favorite sort of character - the sassy, confident, smart older woman/widow - but specifically sticks up for Egg’s secret marriage for love with Betha Blackwood, using both her own history of marrying for love and her seniority within the royal family. Give me one nice thing, GRRM!)
But hey, GRRM is a great writer! I would love Fire and Blood Volume 2 to tell us a lot more about all of these ladies, and I’m willing to trust that the author has the talent to do just that.

ASOIAF FANCASTING --> EVERY NAMED FEMALE CHARACTER ABOVE THE AGE OF FIVE, PART XV
Cyrelle Tarbeck (b. 241 AC): Daughter of Lady Ellyn Reyne and her second husband, Walderan Tarbeck. She had an older sister, Rohanne, and a younger brother, Tion. When House Reyne and Tarbeck were crushed by Tywin Lannister, Cyrelle's brother, husband and father were all killed. Cyrelle and her sister were sent to the silent sisters. Fancast: Riley Keough.
Cyrenna Swann (c. 230-255 AC): Second wife of Lord Walder Frey and mother to two sons. Fancast: Lára Jóhanna Jónsdóttir.
Dacey Mormont (c. 272-299 AC): Eldest daughter and heir of Lady Maege Mormont of Bear Island. She is an accomplished warrior and rides with King Robb Stark in the War of the Five Kings. She is murdered by House Frey at the Red Wedding. Fancast: Natalie Hoflin.
Daella Targaryen (64-82 AC): Fourth-born daughter of Jaehaerys I and Good Queen Alysanne. She was delicate and shy, and was bullied by her younger sister Saera. Many eligible lords and sons of lords courted her, but in the end she chose to wed Lord Rodrik Arryn, who was more than twice her age, but a gentle man who would take care of her. Unfortunately, Daella fell pregnant and died shortly after delivering a healthy baby girl, Aemma. Fancast: Elle Fanning.
Daella Targaryen (b. 199 AC): Eldest daughter of Prince Maekar Targaryen, who would later become king as Maekar I, and his wife Dyanna Dayne. Her mother died when she was under 10. She had four brothers, including Aegon the Unlikely, and one sister, Rhae. Fancast: Therica Wilson-Read.
Daena (main series era): A mummer at the Gate in Braavos. Fancast: Jodelle Ferland.
Daena Targaryen (c. 145-175 AC): Eldest daughter of King Aegon III and his wife Daenaera Velaryon. Her two elder brothers, Daeron and Baelor, became kings consecutively after her father's death. She was married to Baelor at the age of fifteen, but he refused to consummate the marriage. When Daeron was killed in Dorne and Baelor became king, he annulled their marriage and locked Daena away in the Maidenvault with her two younger sisters, so that they would not tempt any man. Daena hated this unjust imprisonment and became more and more defiant, finally giving birth to a bastard son that turned out to be fathered by her cousin Aegon. Baelor, aghast, fasted for forty days after the boy's birth and eventually collapsed and died. Many thought that Daena, being Aegon III's oldest surviving child, would become queen, but she was without political support during her imprisonment and the throne passed to her uncle Viserys instead. Daena's son would go on to become Daemon Blackfyre, who sought a crown for himself and caused the ruinous Blackfyre Rebellions. Fancast: Ellen Hollman.
Daenaera Velaryon (b. 127 AC): Second wife and queen of Aegon III and mother to five children. She was presented to Aegon at the age of six at the Maiden's Day Ball after the death of his first wife, Jaehaera. They were wed later that year, but their first child was not born until ten years later. Fancast: Alicia Agneson.
Daenerys Targaryen (53-60 AC): Eldest daughter and first child to survive infancy of Jaehaerys I and Good Queen Alysanne. She died of the Shivers when she was no more than seven. Fancast: Olivia Tennet.
Daenerys Targaryen (b. 172 AC): Only legitimate daughter of Aegon the Unworthy and his wife, Queen Naerys. At the time of her birth, her elder brother Daeron was already married and had a son. Daeron had been married to Princess Myriah Martell as part of the peace pact between Baelor I and Dorne. When Daenerys was fifteen, she was married to Maron Martell, the ruling prince of Dorne. With this marriage, Dorne was finally brought into the Seven Kingdoms under Targaryen rule. It was rumoured that Daenerys had been in love with her bastard half-brother, Daemon Blackfyre, and that her marriage to Maron instigated the First Blackfyre Rebellion, but Daenerys and Maron were, by all accounts, happy together. Maron built the Water Gardens as a gift for Daenerys, where their children could play in the summer heat along with the children of other nobles. It was Daenerys who declared that the children of the servants could play there too, starting a tradition that continues to this day. Fancast: Sinja Dieks.

Considering how all of maekar’s sons have storylines related to the return of dragons in some way (even aerion, although his is obviously a dark twisted attempt at bringing them back), I hope we see a similar theme for his two daughters daella and rhae in fire and blood volume two

House Velaryon after the Dance of the Dragons
I know that after the Dance of the Dragons House Velaryon lost a lot of their wealth, however, they were still a prestigious House, and had gained a lot of treasures that Alyn acquired in his travels.
Alyn married Baela, and later was involved with Elaena, and Rhaena was the one who reconciled House Velaryon and House Targaryen after that falling out.
Very probably King Daeron II Targaryen had to give the hand of a cousin of his to a Marcher House (my headcanon is House Caron) to still keep them in their good graces and still make use of the connection of the Velaryons to the Targaryens.
It's probable Aelinor Penrose married a Velaryon lord after the death of Aerys I Targaryen, as she was still young and fertile, and this time Aelinor could marry a man willing to give her children with whom she could create an alliance.
And either Rhae or Daella (the daughters of Maekar and Dyanna) as well could have married a Velaryon as a strategy as it would be a good alliance for either of them, as they would strengthen their Valyrian blood.
Vaella (the daughter of Daeron the Drunken and Kiera) and Maegor (the son of Aerion Bright flame and Daenora) must have married into House Velaryon, with Maegor taking the name Velaryon as an agreement, as they were Targaryens who had lost the crown.

Daella lives:
Leonyra seeing Naerys/Daemon passing on whats wrong with them either on all their kids or grandkids is so funny.
Leonyra thinks Aerion escaped but then his firstborn is Larissa whats explain itself
Leonyra is like yeah that makes sense for Maekar, Jon and Alyssa.
Rhaegel is seemingly sane until you realize he is a cunning little politician with a silver tongue hidden in septon robes but he actually believes the Seven-Pointed Star wholeheartedly.
Aerion is a bit too broody but it seemes harmless enough. But Larissa, well, Larissa got his broody genes, Laena's magic obsession, and frighteningly enough, the Arryn book mania and Velaryon's love of treasure. She's a crow really.

We see in the Dunk and Egg books what Egg's relationships with his older brothers was like, but what do you think his relationships with Daella and Rhae were like given what (very) little we know about them?
Virtually impossible to say, given the almost total lack of information we have on them, much less Egg's relationship with them. We know that in their childhood, Rhae tried to give Egg a love potion so that he would marry her instead of their sister Daella, but we get no sense from Egg on how this incident made him feel about either of his sisters (only Dunk's reflection on his, Egg's, casual approach to Targaryen incest and Egg's own youthful insistence on joining the Kingsguard). I think it's possible if not probable that Egg was educated alongside his sisters: we don’t see much in terms of Westerosi children's education in the books, but there is direct precedent both for mixed-gender classes, so to speak (when Shireen is taught alongside Edric Storm and Devan Seaworth on Dragonstone), as well as what I would consider indirect precedent (Sansa's ability to compare her reading and writing skills to those of her brothers, for example, suggests to me that all of them were taught these skills together, to give her a more immediate means of comparison). However, given both his official, and to some extent gender-dependent, roles (as a page for two years to the royal court in King's Landing and a would-be squire to his brother Daeron), it's also possible that Egg did not spend as much time with either or both of his sisters growing up. None of the above precludes Egg having a relationship with Rhae and/or Daella while young and/or in their adulthood, of course; these are simply points to consider.
It is worth pointing out the possibility (which I like to consider true) that Egg was from a young age betrothed to his sister Daella. If that was the case, then I might hope that in future Tales of Dunk and Egg our young co-protagonist will discuss his relationship with his sister and sometime fiancee. Indeed, given the strong possibility, I think, that a future entry in the Tales will describe the romance of Dunk and Daella, we could just as easily (and not mutually exclusively) hear from Daella about her relationship with Egg. (Where that leaves Rhae is unclear, although as I've noted so little can be speculated about Rhae's marital, much less personal, future.)
Again, however, this all remains to be seen. I certainly hope that GRRM will make Rhae and Daella interesting, full-fledged characters with unique and developed relationships with each other and their other family members (not to mention those outside their family), but I also can't pretend that I've not been disappointed in depictions of other Targaryen princesses (*cough* Fire and Blood *cough*)
