Last night I had a dream about a gun that wouldn't fire - I could pull the trigger, repeatedly made sure a bullet was chambered and the safety was off, but the gun just wouldn't work for me. At first glance you'd think it represents powerlessness, and to a degree it does. But more than that, it represents feelings of inadequacy, specifically sexual inadequacy (which would likely be glaringly obvious if I were a guy having this dream and my “gun” wouldn't shoot off)

I know what it’s all about, I know what my psyche is working through and using that as a symbol -- I'm considering dating again, which means I've gotta open up, be vulnerable, expose myself to potential partners…and ultimately risk being rejected for an immutable characteristic of myself, for not being sexually adequate.

And that hurts, but I understand… it's often not actually even me that they're rejecting – they usually really like me, they're often very sexually satisfied and return for more again and again. No. It's not me. They're afraid of judgment by their peers. They know people will talk shit about me, and subsequently them, for being born different. And they can't handle that hit to their ego, so they take it out on me.

So, while I'm preparing to potentially start dating again, I'm also steeling my heart and getting ready for folks who judge my body as profanity, who think it's deviant for others to be attracted to me, or think me less deserving of finding love because of being intersex with a body that doesn't fit the standard mold.

I mean, at least the silver lining is that those who tease, torment, and talk shit about me actually do me a favor of sorts… they unknowingly help me to filter out those people undeserving of my time attention, and affection.

A little About Me

I never thought I would be 32 and single..... yikes ha-ha but life doesn't always go as planned and that's okay. Saying goodbye to an 8-year relationship to the only man I'd ever dated was hard but when you aren't happy you have to make tough decisions to find your happiness. Sooooo I've been single for about a year now and boy it is freeing. I can do whatever I want, whenever I want and not check in with a single soul. I've spent the last year figuring out what I want out of life and who I am. I know... I know at 32 you should know these things. But to be fair I spent a good chunk of my life from the age of 20 to 29 caring for my elderly mother and there wasn't much time for self-exploration, so I am catching up and enjoying every minute of it. I've spent the last year going on dates and let me tell you it's been quite the adventure. I have had some really crazy experiences and joke to some of my friends that I should start a blog....so here I am. Follow me on the ups and downs of online dating. I'll be sharing the good, the bad the ugly. I hope you'll laugh with me, cry with me (as there has been tons of that). Dating is hard but as a woman of color in Utah of all places it's been quite the adventure.

Hey all, you know how internet searches suck now? When the results are awful, full-of-AI, death-of-the-internet levels of bad?

Start appending date constraints to your searches - "before:2023".

My results have gone from 90% AI bullshit to ~60% usable - which frankly at this point is a huge improvement.
