Dipsomani I.
Karantina'dan Göztepe 'ye yürümezsem penceremden gördüğüm Körfez'in kahverengi sularında boğulacağımı hissettiğim birkaç saat geçirdim.

Did you know that Richard E Grant is a teetotaller? He wasn’t drunk for any of the scenes in Withnail and I and it wasn’t real booze they were drinking. His dipsomania was just great acting.

Top Tens - Mythology: Top 10 Mancy (Special Mention) (14) Dipsomancy
(14) DIPSOMANCY (MARGARITOMANCY)
Sometimes you drink the bottle and sometimes the bottle drinks you.
Essentially a narrower subset of narcomancy, dipsomancy is what I’ve coined for divination by alcohol or drunkeness – from the same Greek root (dipso- for thirst) that gives us dipsomania, a fancy word for alcoholism.
Again there’s some fun fantasy potential for dipsomancy as a magical way of…

A Good Vintage
A good vintage of alcoholism —
born on the Dieppe beach,
seasoned in Northern Ontario
lumber camps, door-to-door
dipsomania.
Skips a generation,
reignited by a red-haired,
moon-struck girl.
Canadian Club tasted bad,
but it does its job.

Alas, Dr Judd has arrived and is immediately just the worst.
So he's waiting for an appointment and the receptionist mentions that she read his book and is curious about the treatment he would recommend for her father, who is an alcoholic. He tells her he doesn't practice anymore, that she should find someone else to help, and that "dipsomania is...rather sordid." Then he just walks away.
I suppose it's a credit to the actor that he has created a character who is this immediately hateable.

DIPSOMANIA IN 19th CENTURY AMERICA
DIPSOMANIA IN 19th CENTURY AMERICA
Believe it or not, the Puritans believed in drinking. In fact, they brought more beer with them than water. Early Americans took a healthful dram for breakfast, whiskey for a lunchtime tipple, ale with supper, and ended the day with a nightcap. Continuous imbibing clearly built up a tolerance. By 1830, consumption had peaked at 7 gallons per year per person.
By the late 19th century, dipsomania,…
