so what kind of projectile drop do we think the various long range weapons have? My gut tells me the 'blasters', (cordak blasters, midak skyblasters, ninrah ghostblasters) are more like firearms, with decent range and minimal bullet drop, while 'launchers' (Zamora sphere launchers, thornax launchers) have less range and more of an arc to them. Disk launchers obviously launch frisbee like projectiles which seems to be somewhat self propelled? Rhotuka spinners definitely have the best range of them all irl, but it's hard to say if that translates to lore. Squid launchers are in a category of their own, I'd say they're almost just an aiming device with self propelled ammo, that's able to track and switch targets.

i had to pirate red dead in order to play it again because steam is holding all my games hostage (to be clear i have paid for this game twice, on two separate platforms) and hoooooooooooly shit. getting rid of the r★ launcher and the internet connection requirement took the initial loading time for this game from literally 7-10 minutes to less than 2. @ game companies that require your shitty launchers to be active in order to play i am killing you with psychic beams

I finish loading floppy disks into my strange arm-mounted launcher. "13 floppies... More then enough to install Windows 95 on anything that moves".
The title card fades in:
FOONE TURING
- FLOPPY WEIRDO -
The boss battle music starts, and you regain control of your character. Before you realize what's happening, a 3.5 floppy disk clonks you on the head. It kinda stings.

I am very intrigued by how the "Toa Tool" thing works.
Like, yeah, some are made by Arthaka or other famous universe toolsmiths, but for many matoran-turned-toa, their tools are often related to their professions or straight up are tools they had in hand that are transformed alongside them during the metamorphosis.
Vakama was a mask carver, carving masks from kanoka disks, and his tool turned out to be a launcher that could use the raw materials of his profession as projectiles (well, not a hard thing considering they already are used as projectiles by many, but still...).
Takua's Chronicler staff became Takanuva's Staff of light, a powerful weapon that, coincidentally, could also function as a rather deadly version of a Kohili Stick.
These items also seem to be strongly tied with their own wielder physical being, as the toa Hagah weapons were transformed along their users, but despite this, they can also be left behind for the sake of better equipment (Mahri Kongu) which, although understandable in some cases (Two hands), still feels weird. That's not just a weapon, that's a part of you.
Its such an interesting concept that seems so often discarded in favour of elemental powers and mask, but like... Its YOUR weapon. It is related to a matoran entire being, their life, their experiences and things they enjoy. It's a way to use one's passion in a way that lets them protect others, and often also have additional functions based on what they may need. How cool is that? Think about it.
There could be a toa of ice whose job as a matoran was janitor and their weapon is a mop that can freeze its tendrils and become a morningstar, or generate a frozen layer over what its passed over, painting ice paths in an instant.
There could be a toa of air who had a passion for botany and took care of the MU version of bonsai trees, their precision shears turned into a huge, bulky pair of scissors that can be used as a broadsword that can also manipulate air currents to cut things from distance.
There could be a toa of iron whose main job was welding, and lo and behold, the clunky, cumbersome equipment he struggled to drag around became a big flamethrower that it wears like a backpack, complete with a welding mask integrated on top of their own kanohi as a visor.
There could be a Toa of stone who enjoyed the life of a performer, juggling, somersaulting, doing precision throws and whose tool is now a set of spiky or bladed clubs that can bounce on surfaces and enemies alike and then return to them.
A toa of Psionics whose dream to write stories manifested into a strange staff, originally their writing stylus, able to manifest masterful illusions by writing words inside the enemy minds and trap them in stories through the mere strength of their narration.

Burning Bridges
“I am Kalrose, commander of the Second Armada of the Akaviri. We are on our way to a peacekeeping operation in the Pegasus cluster. Humanity is not our enemy, but it will be if you continue to detain us in your piss puddle agrarian star system. Step away from the FTL launcher and no one will die. Remain in front and we will plow through your craft. Either way you will not stop us.”
The human freighter acting as a makeshift gate in front of the launcher did not move. If anything, it centered itself more, in order to better face the Akaviri flagship head on.
Then it broadcasted back.
“Your ‘peacekeeping mission’ in the Pegasus cluster is a genocide. We will not stand back and let you commit this atrocity. We may not have the men or the ships to destroy your fleet, but we don’t need to destroy your fleet in order to keep you from reaching the battlefield. Our piss puddle’s name is ‘Zion.’ In time, you will call it ‘Home.’”
Kalrose barely had time to ponder the nature of that threat when the launcher fired up. The EM readings on his ship went mad, and in that brief fraction of a second, he realized he’d miscalculated. Gravely.
He didn’t know how many thousands of safety protocols had been bypassed, but the amount of power flowing to the gravitational core in the center of the launcher was easily nine times larger than the maximum rating. A micro singularity formed within the space lens, and cladding ripped itself off the hull before spiraling at near light speeds around the artificial black hole.
Kalrose had always imagined such a catastrophe as something like a fireball, reds and oranges, lots of shrapnel and clanging. Upon seeing it in person, he realized how foolish that was.
Red glows were for pokers left in hot coals. This was, for one brief moment, a star fueled on steel. It was never going to be orange.
It could only be white.
The accretion disk condensed further, the energy of the reactions happening near it somehow fueling the gravitational anomaly at the center. His comm system moved into a death scream as the material’s blackbody radiation moved past the x-ray spectrum, pure friction converting the material to energy more efficiently than even a fusion reactor could manage. The heat generated finally caused a full structural collapse, the spine of the station melting enough to wrap the whole barrel of the launcher around the spiraling singularity, twirling it in loops like thread around a spool. The reaction was accelerating now, even without electricity being able to fuel the gravitational collapse, the radiation pressure alone managing to hold the system in a highly fragile state of tensegrity. He recognized the feedback loop that was happening, radiation fueling gravity, gravity fueling radiation, on and on until-
There was no air for noise in space, but he could almost imagine the roar that the expanding cloud of ionized metal should have made as it blew past. There it was. The end of the loop. It had run out of matter to feed on, so without a balance to the compressive force it expanded outwards.
He was fortunate that the explosion was violent enough to atomize the particles. Even a fragment the size of a grain of sand would’ve been enough to take down his flagship. As a lone ion, it could be deflected by the same magnetic field that kept the crew safe during FTL jumps.
He stared numbly at the monitor.
One third of the Akaviri fleet, stranded in a farming system. Not even a shot fired.
He realized that the comm system’s scream had been replaced with the quiet pulse of an incoming broadcast. He accepted it without question, too lost to even be angry.
“Take your time recovering your senses. When you’re ready, just send us a message back. We’re going to need every hand we can on the harvest. There’s no one out there we can reach for help after this. It’s just...Us.”

🔥Vakama, Toa Metru of Fire🔥
Vakama | Nuju | Whenua | Matau | Nokama | Onewa
Thoughts under the cut
they had no business making him pose like this in his character render, lips parted, vakamussy out, disk launcher ready to go, ofc I had to draw him a little slutty ❤️‍🔥
ok anyway
Boots are loosely based off the Metru feet/shins because I had to keep this Bionicle somehow
Vakama’s apron, coat, goggles, gloves, and elbow armor are all allusions to him being a mask-maker; I watched lomn again to make sure he was right handed. That being said I might just change his goggle design to the ones in the movie because I liked those!
I cut & pasted the disk launcher from his render bc I didn’t want to try drawing it
His overcoat zips all the way to cover his neck if worn properly. Worn like this, he has the other sleeve turned inside out and tucked behind him so it doesn’t dangle.
The apron and belt are one piece and the buckle should probably be on the short side but I wasn’t thinking about that when I drew this ope
His hair is pulled back into a little messy bun and, tied with a hair tie, and maybe has a few bobby pins that he stole from Nokama. It’s naturally wavy, thick, and always seems to get in his eyes when it’s down
Boobs

There's a root in Metru Nui they use for large scale wiring, it grows from one port to another and reinforces itself over time. It leeches a little electricity and needs to be trimmed occasionally but it's a perfect conductor. There are abandoned centers in lower Le-Metru that have completely overgrown due to neglect, and any trimming comes at a risk of electrical shock. Illegal modified disk launchers and anti-vahki tech is usually sold in these depths by matoran just as forgotten as the centers. If you harvest the overgrowth right, you can recharge yourself with it. This root was cultivated later into the Vuata Maca tree.

I mean this in the most inoffensive way possible, and this is purely my interpretation, looking back now that I've caught up more on the lore and read up on on the books and rewatched the movies:
Vakama is a very anxiety coded character
My evidence is more interpretation that anything else, but let me explain:
We all know how Vakama's story starts: he's an esteemed mask-maker in Ta-Metru, good enough to surpass his teacher and have the Turaga choose him to make the most powerful Kanohi mask of all time(pun intended), he's got friends he enjoys his time with, he has a good thing going for him, even if his city is overrun with Vahki that will attack on sight, there's a homicidal plant that's trying to kill everyone, and Ta-Metru isn't the most livable place to be, all things considered, but Vakama is at his most stable as a Matoran.
I don't have a lot of or any background on his Matoran life to really point out anything that comes across as anxiety, but I will say that Lhikan giving him the Toa stone and Lhikan's capture gave Vakama some kind of survivor's guilt, seeing as how Nidhiki literally threatened to burn Vakama alive if Lhikan didn't hand himself over.
Where we loop back to anxiety territory is the visions Vakama has, or rather what the visions could represent. Anxiety is often referred to as "being afraid of the future," and the future is something Vakama sees due to his visions. The closest I can think of that can be a real life interpretation of the visions(what it could be IRL) are panic attacks or anxiety attacks, nothing severe, but big enough that almost everyone who sees it chalks it up to, "being cross-wired."
Some other things that come off as anxiety coding are when Vakama still makes the Mask of Time, despite still being a Toa, when Vakama tries to feign confidence and gets irritable when he's trying to rescue the rest of the Matoran and is trying to do it as fast as possible, even snapping at and lashing out at his friends. Granted the latter, getting haughty and trying to get the job done quickly, seems to be more the result of Vakama internalizing Lhikan's sacrifice and last words, doing so in a, "he said he was proud to call me his brother, so now I have to keep him proud, even if he's not here to say it," which is a line of thinking that could bring us back to anxiety
In terms of how making the Mask of Time can be seen as something to do with anxiety, this requires a bit of a personal lense to view:
Have you ever been at a point where a big event or thing is coming up and to keep yourself from focusing on it, you try to focus on something else? For instance, if you were stressing about a new semester of school starting or a job interview or a test, have you ever tried to take the focus off of it by doing something like cooking a meal or writing ina journal or drawing? Just a small thing you're used to doing that both challenges you, but is relatively stress-free?
I imagine Vakama is doing mostly the same thing. With no sugar-coating at all, he's stressed the hell out about being a Toa and cannot really express that or back out because he was chosen, so he resorts to making the Kanohi Vahi; he's a skilled mask-maker and his job was to make masks, which he was very successful in. I also imagine it's a bit of a bargaining thing for him, like a sort of, "If I can succeed in making this, I can succeed going forward," thing.
There are smaller things that are also possible pointers or shows of Vakama's implied anxiety, namely how he chooses a weapon most familiar to him from his time as a Matoran(the disk launcher), how his mask power is invisibility, which I've personally felt sometimes when I was having anxiety moments("I don't want to be here right now, I don't want anyone to see me"), and just how quiet Vakama is in general, being someone who possibly wouldn't be noticed as much if he weren't the main protagonist in LoMN; I'm pretty sure if it was Matau or Onewa we were dollowing, Vakama would be an intriguing background character similar to Nuju, only slightly louder, so to speak
This was just a random thought I had, and most of it is just what I interpret, and sorry if it doesn't make a lot of sense😅

The Duckling kittens really like it when I get out the disk launcher. I'm trying to get them to fetch the disks and bring them back to me - and at one point Louie actually trotted into the room with one in his mouth - but the concept is eluding them as of yet.

Toa Metru headcanon
In the time between arriving with the matoran at Mata Nui and waking them up, they weren’t always occupied with preparations. One of the ways they entertained themselves was thinking up challenges for Vakama to do trickshots, by his own fire powers or by using his disk launcher.
They knew that he has good aim, but they doubted Vakama’s claim that he fixed the Vahi in the Silver Sea by shooting a stream of energy. So they demanded him to show if he was that good actually.
Nuju, begrudgingly and silently interested, held up rocks at various heights.
Then he would move them.
Then he would move one rock erratically through the air.
Vakama aimed with his finger and hit every rock each time.
After some point after he’s shown his skills, everybody’s falling over themselves one evening from the growing excitement as they think of increasingly ridiculous challenges for him.
