A Buncha Boneheads (Final)
Originally posted on My Patreon (Follow the link to see the full image)
Well, after drawing 88 different skeletal characters, here it is, the full series of "A Buncha Boneheads"! I was originally going to try and sell this as a poster but after looking into it, I don't think I can do that unless I want to deal with several dozen copyright laws.
This was quite the fun little exercise for me- the biggest challenge was trying to emulate the art styles of so many different series and properties. There are definitely more skull-headed characters out there that I could add, but frankly I think a nice even 88 is good enough, and there are other projects I want to work on for the future. Overall I'm pretty proud of this.
With that said, let me know if I've made a spelling mistake or something anywhere on here- I've tried my best but I just know I missed one or two somewhere.
The full list of characters is written below:

🌸Elvira (OC) belongs to @imoonblaze 🌸El Tigre: The Adventures of Manny Rivera belong to Jorge R. Gutierrez
I should have shown this last year but because of school and the one that she still didn't have a name I couldn't publish it 😅 At some point I will draw it in the style of El Tigre, since this time I preferred to design and draw it in my own style .
She is Elvira V. Dracula, currently the queen of vampires, she is the founding director of the shelter "Vampiric Refuge Agency" in my AU Bloody infection, but in the El Tigre series she is a vampire who along with her daughter They move from Transylvania to Mexico to settle in Ciudad Milagro.
The reality is that her bat appearance is not her true form but an appearance that she decided to take as her own identity for the sake of feeling comfortable looking like that, although because of that it also means that her clothes need to be more open to avoid getting hot (really …being a vampire in the form of a furry flying mammal doesn't help much if we talk about body temperature is higher)…and yes, her clothes are not to look attractive but to avoid suffocating and overheating.

From chapter 5, Canta Y No Llores by Laura Fernandez talks about the Latinx representation in animation. Discussing films like The Book of Life, shows like El Tigre: The Adventures of Manny Rivera show some representation of Mexican culture. The two animations were a great way of showing Latindad through the representation of Mexican culture. I remember watching this show with my brother. We both recognized the symbolism of our own culture, I felt like we had a show that really connected with my family, in a beautiful and fun animation style. My family was heavily influenced by American and Mexican culture, that animation is a great part in my dad’s interests. My parents were a part of the generation in Mexico that had lots of access to Anime shows that were translated to Spanish. Showing my parents, the cartoons I was watching that were based around and inspired by Mexican culture was really nice. I did find a piece of the chapter interesting when they were talking about how the corpse bride was inspired by lots of day of the dead imagery and colors. This chapters shows the importance of recognizing the cultures we are bringing into movies; animation is a magical form of art that can be manipulated into whatever you want.  Animation allows for Latinx artists to create everything they imagines. The book of life is a great demonstration of tales of day of the dead, but it has its own pit falls to how it could have been represented better. Around my friends there is always the debate if coco form Disney or the book of life was better. Personally, I like the Book of Life better, but for the same reasons Disney made its own pit falls with the film. But I feel as though there is a style of the movie that makes it feel more authentic to Mexican folk lore.

Another swap with more diverse styles! Gotta say, it takes dedication to use different colored lines for the different elements on a character design.

[C] 'EL TIGRE' Style: Tigre x Maya and the Three! by Mast3r-Rainb0w
It's two of Jorge R. Gutierrez's works mashed into ONE PIC! How cool is that? Both El Tigre/Manny and Maya are depicted in "El Tigre: The Adventures of Manny Rivera" art style!
Believe it or not, I was commissioned to draw this, so it’s 100% fan-made artwork by yours truly! Enjoy!

I don’t care what anyone says, Jorge Gutierrez (El Tigre: The Adventures of Manny Rivera, The Book of Life) could have made an incredible series based on the Three Caballeros
Tumblr media
I feel like it would be sort of a hybrid of The Three Amigos and Elena of Avalor, with some of Spaghetti Westerns in the style of Rango.

Canta Y No Llores- Life and Latinidad in Children’s Animation
When you watch a show like Dora the Explorer you expect for the poeple who are writing it have some connection or understanding of the identity she is representing. But it’s not. The show, like many other films where Latino/as are represented are written and directed by white people. Which puts into question what their real purpose for making the show was. Was it to have a positive Latin character? Was it to show people the positive things from Latin America? Perhaps teach us about different cultures? It is none of these, while they might claim that this is what they were doing it for, the show had ultimately adverse affects downplaying and stereotyping Latin culture. Placing Latinos into this huge umbrella where we can all fit in. And while some might think this was done in an effort to include all Latinos, it was much more harmful in reinforced common dominant ideologies surrounding Latinos. Again, they cater to the white male hegemony in order to increase their profits.
They also discussed shows like El Tigre: Adventures of Manny Rivera, which was very nostalgic as I remembered watching that show in my youth. I remember being so excited because the animation style and the content was so close to home that I could not help, but be in love with the show. When I still lived in Mexico as a kid I would collect these small tokens that came in chip bags. They were collectables and were very popular in the part of Mexico that I grew in. They were full of awesome designs that were very reminiscent of the that Tv Show. I also remember my mom sometimes watching it with me because, she too, would love the connections to our culture that would lead to conversations about her home land. But then, out of no where, the show stopped. And after reading this chapter I can see why. The show was too unapologetic about its Mexican culture. It was too much for the hegemony to handle and therefore it did not survive the test of time. But maybe it was much more relevant to me because it was actually written by two Mexicans. “And unfortunately the one show created by Latina/os, El Tigre (created by Jorge Gutiérrez and Sandra Equiha) had the shortest shelf life.”
I have never seen the Book Of Life, but after reading how the portrayal of Latinidad in this movie is much more appropriate as it is not trying to encompass Mexico into one box, but more like a Mexican artist expressing his magical view of his Mexico. This made me very interested and intrigued to see a representation that is not trying to be something that is not, It may still be working around a capitalist culture for profit, but at least they were critically conscious of how Mexico and its culture were represented for a mainly western audience.

Today’s characters are: Red Riding Hood & Snow White (Revolting Rhymes), Raz (Psychonauts) and Kyle and Rosemary (Kyle + Rosemary)
I really liked the art style for the BBC Revolting Rhymes shorts. Each of the characters and environments looked like they were cut out of cardboard paper and it was great. Even tho’ Red and White are said to be together in show, I’d like to think that they are. // Psychonauts is one of those games that when it came out I wanted to play but didn’t because I didn’t have the system at the time. However because of Steam, I was finally able to play a pretty great game. Hopefully the long-awaited sequel is even better. // I absolutely adore the Kyle + Rosemary pilot. Probably because I’m a hopeless romantic but each time I watch it I just feel good. fun fact, the lady who made Kyle + Rosemary also made Snacky’s Journal and directed The Tigger Movie.
Tomorrow’s characters are: White Pantera (El Tigre: The Adventure of Manny Rivera), Tikal the Echidna (Sonic series [recommended] ) and Blue Zircon (Steven Universe)
