thinking a lot about Briar’s points on Absolution and the intersection of privilege and causes, and I am thinking about it but ALSO very much thinking about the intersection between privilege and trauma, and also the way coping mechanisms and reactions to trauma are treated, esp in regards to the Traitor Trio

like we look at Miriam and I think she’s so absolutely, fantastically written. Briar is COMPLETELY right that she’s driven by fear, it defines her and her reactions to her trauma. In the beginning she’s aggressive as a defense mechanism. she’s afraid and self-serving in her self preservation, like not wanting to put herself in danger to further their mission, or when she gave up the child to the cook knowing that they’d be punished bc she fears punishment herself. her life was so devoid of love and care that after fleeing Tevinter, she found Hira and IMMEDIATELY latched onto her to (I would argue) an unhealthy degree. she blames Rezaren for her brother’s death bc of his failed Harrowing, despite the fact that Rezaren was at his most vulnerable and defenseless during it, and it was his mother that enacted the events leading to Neb’s death. Miriam is messy, flawed and imperfect in SO many ways and i LOVE it I LOVE IT

but i would argue that Hira and Rezaren are equally as flawed and also justified in their reactions to the trauma they suffered as well. Hira coming from a position of privilege and seeing her father killed in front of her for trying to help people has led to her becoming angry and bitter about the state of the world, but especially about inaction by the people around her. She throws herself into a cause, but still holds the idea that those in the right should be able to do whatever they want to achieve their goals. Her willingness to give Miriam over as a slave betrays that “ends justify the means” mentality she holds, where even her loved ones are not as important as the ideal in her head (many people compare Rezaren to Anders, which... I guess I can understand, but I would in fact argue that Hira and Anders have MUCH more in common. Hira was willing to betray her loved one for a hope of change and betterment of conditions in the world, and is that not exactly what Anders did to Hawke? but I digress). I also think that Hira is incredibly well-written, even if her character had the slowest payoff in the end!! it’s fantastic!!!

And then there’s Rezaren. A lot of this is probably going to be speculation, but I think Rezaren is just. Fantastic character writing. Rezaren is not motivated by fear or anger. I see a lot of people say that he’s entitled, and yeah he is, but more than that, he’s desperate and willfully ignorant. though we don’t see it, it’s implied that his mother had high expectations of him and honestly I wish we could have seen a better scope of the abuse he suffered. The expectation put on him by his family, which led him to believe that the only way he can protect those he loves is by obtaining more power. The loneliness he felt to consider Miriam and Neb his family. It is very clear that he loves Miriam, though obviously being a product of his environment his perspective on what love is is warped and twisted, because why else would he dedicate his life to raising his status with the sole intention of being able to protect her? It’s clear he loved Neb, because why else would he obsess over a way to safely use an artifact to restore him that wouldn’t lead to more death? Rezaren’s breaking point was perfect because Miriam essentially told him “everything you have been deluding yourself with has been a lie and everything you’ve worked towards is for nothing”. The way the dream around them shatters is a literal display of his own worldview breaking. He no longer has the luxury of ignoring the truth for his hopeful ideal of how things could be. There’s a lot of complexity and nuance to him that make him maybe my second favourite character in the show

I dont have a neat and tidy way to conclude this, all i can say is that all of them are fucking fantastic explorations of trauma and how upbringing and circumstance produce drastically different results and i want to put all three of them in my mouth and chew on them like mochi

Safia was born in Cuba, to young parents. Her dad rode a motorcycle, her mom was the cute girl next door. They decided to move their family to Wilmington when Safia was eight because they believed there would be better opportunities for themselves and their kids.

Safia really struggled with the move, as she didn't know much English at the time and felt incredibly protective over her younger brother who knew even less. She grew a little angry and bitter towards her parents, and towards the world. So as she grew into a teenager, Safia became rebellious. She would skip class, smoke under the bleachers etc etc. High school wasn't her best time in terms of academics, she was a smart girl but she just never applied herself much to her classes.

She decided not to go to college at 18 as she had no idea what she wanted to study, so stayed in Wilmington for a 'year' to figure out what she wanted to do. This was when she fell in love with dance, and with a man. Buuuuut it wasn't the kind of first love experience she had expected. The relationship was slow and tentative, but Safia was like a bull in a china shop. She wanted it to be explosive and all encompassing.

Her boyfriend wasn't attentive in the way she wanted, so her eyes unintentionally drifted to his brother... Everything she wished she felt for her boyfriend, she found herself feeling for his brother. She tried to ignore her feelings, but she couldn't ignore the way he made her feel. He felt the same way for her, but Safia wasn't a cheater. So instead, she agreed she would break up with her boyfriend, and tell him the truth.

Only she received a phone call that he was in hospital with irreparable injuries from a severe car accident, and he later passed away. Safia was consumed with guilt, and immediately distanced herself from his family, and his brother.

She tried to heal, but this process took time and it was tumultuous at best. Just when she had started to feel better, her own brother came to her in a wild panic. He had a gambling addiction, and to fuel it he borrowed money from loan sharks who were now knocking on his door. He didn't have the money to repay them, so Safia met with them.

They agreed that her brother would serve a short sentence in prison, and she would repay them a certain amount each month. At this time she was only a dance instructor, so found herself a job as a stripper so she could afford to pay back the loan sharks.

WANTED CONNECTIONS/IDEAS.

Friends and besties: Safi can be pretty loyal, all things considered. She is a great friend to have, will support and encourage you through anything. These can be friends from high school, or recent years, whenever really! Whatever works best between our characters.

Roommate: Safi probably doesn't earn a huge amount of money, esp after giving money to her brother's loan sharks so she likely lives with someone. She lives in Midtown!

Friends with benefits / almost dating: This can be male and/or female! After her bf passed away, Saf probably avoided relationships like the plague. She is pretty hedonistic so she wouldn't have shied away from sexual relationships. There could have been one or two that started to feel relationshippy and she dipped out!

Dated but didn't end well: Maybe after some time Safi felt like she could be in a relationship again, but it didn't end well because maybe of your character or it ended mutually or she was scared of messing things up?

Frequent customers: Maybe some characters enjoy indulging themselves in a dance or two from Safi, and they have this playful flirtationship between each other.

High school sweetheart: One of my all time faaaave types of connections. Now Safi was rebellious during high school, so they could've been similar OR entirely different.

People who may be friends with her younger brother: I'd say he's around 30, and he has a gambling addiction. He's pretty messy too, like Safi. But currently he's serving a short sentence in prison.

born and raised in oxford jasper's parents were both teachers ( mum of biology & dad of history ) and he the youngest of three, with an older brother & sister. while his siblings followed in the academic path set by their parents, jasper was consumed by a love for ballet from a young age.

he attended the royal ballet school for several years thanks to bursaries, but at eighteen suffered a back injury that had to be treated with surgery and though he mostly recovered ( it still plays up every now and then ) but decided then it wasn't the career path for him.

so he started a degree in music and drama at university and ended up doing some modelling for fellow students in fashion and photography. with their encouragement & his family's, he built a portfolio and approached several agencies. he began part time work straight away ; dribs and drabs here and there, but enough for jack to find a real passion.

dropped out of uni and struggled through a few years of ups and downs ( mainly downs ) in london. his luck started to turn at 23 and this prompted his move to new york two years later. the ups and downs ratio slowly shifted towards more of the former and at 26 he booked his first real editorial shoot in an issue of harper's bazaar.

after this he started earning regularly in editorial and commercial fashion; enough to move from his first dingy brooklyn apartment and start saving. his ownership of glow came completely out of nowhere ; jasper would never dream of being a business owner. until, of course, a club space not far from his home became available. it is maybe the most impulsive thing he's ever done and for sure he has stress dreams about it since taking ownership with a friend ( maybe a wc ?? ) two years ago, but it's done and glow is now his baby. he still models & loves it of course, but channels most of his energy into glow.

it was always going to be an lgbtq+ space and it had been a club before, so that was a pretty easy decision. but it's by no means just a club. downstairs is only open from the evening and is the designated club space ( though there are alcohol-free & relaxed nights even in the club ), but upstairs is a much more relaxed space with a bar and cafe capabilities. jack really wants it to become a community hub of sorts.

headcanons

is probably a relatively mid to high-level model. he's had his fair share of shoots in popular magazines / work with well-known brands so recognisable to an extent, but not considered a supermodel or a household name, really.

supports local small businesses ( esp queer ones ) at any chance, whether in the club or through investment, sponsorship, whatever. he has money ( like, a good amount of it ) & kinda status for the first time in his life so is always trying to find ways to share it out and make sure as many people benefit as possible.

has been known to randomly appear at the club's karaoke night and take part. usually a wham! song or never gonna give you up if he's feeling funny. if he's not modelling, he can usually be found at glow, obsessing over one thing or the other and being a typical perfectionist / stress head overthinking things.

bubbly af ; just wants to be friends with everyone. lowkey golden retriever energy. some people-pleasing tendencies but he's getting better since being in business and realising that sometimes it's very important to say no.

a dreadfully hopeless romantic. his dating history has, like his career, had many ups and downs. still firmly believes in love and the idea of settling down with 'the one' which has been his most recent dating goal though he's fallen out of the scene a lot with being so busy.

Really long post on IQ and racism in anthropology under cut

Frost concluded one of his dozens of panicky "there's a global conspiracy to wipe out the whiteys!" posts by mentioning African immigrants' IQ on a write-up about Denmark:

Not resigning yourself to your oppression as a woman is a grave injustice against males who think that you are a limiting resource.🙄

We live in a world that has low-trust and high-trust societies. In a high-trust society, like the UK, cheating is considered shameful and disreputable, regardless of whom you cheat. In a low-trust society, like Nigeria, cheating is wrong only when you do it to friends and relatives.

What happens when individuals from a low-trust society migrate to a high-trust one? If they come in sufficient numbers, their opportunities for collaborative cheating are greatly increased. Imagine you're supervising an exam in an English school, and you suspect an African student is filling in for another. He shows you his school card and another piece of ID. Both are correct. So what do you do now? Do you really want to make a fuss and risk being accused of racial profiling? No you don't.

Frost is OBSESSED with IQ b/c he's a right winger. That's it. IQ doesn't justify inequality or what role IQ discourse has among these asshats: what hasn't changed throughout history is men being shrewd and appropriating resources for their own benefit. There was no single man in the past or now who worked hard enough to merit appropriating the fruit of others' labor which is tied to the power they obtained via dominance hierarchies that others had to accept for them to exist. Were other men under the delusion that they might too climb upwards so they could benefit from the others' hard work? Men sure love the idea of being ~~dominant~~. Perhaps they obtained privilege with age?

We can plainly see how unethical and uncaring even the bleeding heart lib males are now. They love being ignorant & manipulative while enshrouding themselves in this illusory veil of 'wokeness' that masks what rotten PoS they all are. None of them would thrive in an environment that doesn't cut males major slack.

Frost has gone on to say that it doesn't matter if black children have lower IQs due to nature or nurture because in the end, those low IQs are all that matter.

You’re talking about the European world, especially Western Europe, and East Asia, especially Japan. Yes, today those societies are very secular, but that hasn’t always been the case.

A hundred years ago, those societies were just as intelligent as they are today (probably more so, given the data presented in earlier posts). They also had low levels of personal violence and teenage pregnancy. In fact, illegitimate births were much less frequent. Yet they were much more religious back then than now.

If you want to know the “secret of the West,” as opposed to scoring debating points, you have to go back in time to the period when these social and economic characteristics fell into place. Low rates of teenage pregnancy? That seems to be a long-running cultural trait that goes back to the earliest historical records. Low rates of personal violence? That came about during the late medieval and early modern eras, probably because violent males were systematically removed from the gene pool. High intelligence? That’s partly a long-running trait, although there is evidence that mean IQ rose during late medieval and early modern times.

I think I saw all possibel tropes, kinds and shits there. They were very creative xD Also, before i started writing fics, I had a lot naruto fics ideas playing in my head... before the main story went to shit :))))

I mean, it would be a twist no one saw coming xD but she is the main, so I don;t think so. Still, I usually play with some ideas about fics I like so, in my AU it's possible xD

I thought about something like - them meeting while Kara is in college, while Kara being with someone else, wanting to be reporter but deep inside struggling with it. And then meeting him, and not being the fan at first but slowly falling in love and meeting him makes her really question her life choices (maybe she is more into art and paitings? maybe teaching literature or writing books, something like that). But her friends (Lenaaaaaaaaaa) and family being totally against him (aka her parents being high mighty and wealthy and famous and whole the rest of her family and friends be like that) and worried he would simply screw her life. Because Mon-El would be dunno, ex soldier working as a barkeep, so much below her status, blah blah. But because he knows she is the one and she could be happy with him and a different career path, he fights for her and they end up married and beyond happy, but Kara cut the ties with her family and her friends.

But some accident happens, she losts her memory and remembers things before she met him, so it;s quite a shock for her, because yeah, not the life she remembers and all is up side-down, she's super confused etc, so her fam and friends (Lenaaaaaaaaaaaaa!) uses the situation and start to persuade her to come back to her old life.

Mon-El tries to bring her memories back, but it's not working and he sees she is unhappy and struggling and (for some other reasons) he simply can't bear to once again fight for her, so one day he takes her to her parents home, hugs for the last time and wishes her to be happy and then leaves.

Kara becomes the reporter in CatCo, her dream job, yay! maybe reconnects with some of her past crush, is friends with Lena and others etc. but still feels disconnected with it all. Having some dreams about the past she doesn't remember, some memories coming back, but not making a lot of sense. On some point she gets her divorce papers to sign (evil laugh). And I have some loose ideas how to end it, but never really thought about it. For sure Kara and Lenaaaaaaaa were friends but becasue Lenaaaaa did a lot of shit to her and tried to manipulate Kara ended it and when she rememberes it - boy, poor Lenaaaaaaaaaaa (nope, not poor screw her). For sure, Kara tries to find him on some point, even when her memories are not complete, but it's not so easy *evil laugh*

I also thought about giving them a dog and Mon-el living it with her and one day, she is with it in Winn and Eve's house for a game night and the dog dissapeares and she finds it in the basement, curled near some boxes and Winn explains that's Mon's stuff becasue he asked them to store his things for some time, because he left somewhere (he enlisted again and moves abroad for some war? I know, cheesy, but whatever). Hue hue hue. And i will leave you with it. Hue hue hue

Tbh, I thought about Mon-El being Tony as well xD I think Mon was some kind of engineer in the comics too? I played the idea of Kara being Asgardian too xD But I KNOW, Kara/Carol DANVERS!!! Who is responsible for it?!!!! Or Kara being the Captain Marvel and Mon-El being Asgardian? He fits the role too xD

Since you brought up Tsuyu and/or possibly Shouji up as potentially relating to Spinner, it reminds me of an old ‘Momo and Mr. Compress’ post that I can’t find anymore, where Momo could maybe come to understand class conflict through Compress’s perspective and he could make her supplies more portable. Ring any bell?

I have never seen this post in my life, but man does it sound intriguing as heck. Mr. Compress + Momo + Issues of Wealth in Hero Society??? I’ve been blindsided, and my thoughts are in a frenzy.

It’s an absolute pity Momo’s been essentially forgotten by the plot of BnHA, because she could offer so much from just a worldbuilding perspective, and that’s not even taking into account her world-be development of growing into being a Hero and affecting the system itself. She comes from a wealthy family, with loving supportive parents! She’s a highly educated genius who got into UA through recommendations! Her quirk allows her to produce nearly anything she wants instantly - I know the explanation is that her fat cells are converted into material, but it’s still essentially creating something from nothing. She’s the philosopher’s stone of the modern era.

So this makes Momo incredibly privileged, a member of society’s elite, and she’s only going to move up higher in status as she grows up. Of high birth, powerful and useful quirk, training to be part of the special group of people authorized to use their quirk. She won the life lottery at birth, lacking for nothing. Her quirk is great, but honestly, even taking into account the restriction on its use by the state, she doesn’t need to use it ever when she’s be able to buy whatever she needs.

Now take all that away. All except her innate quirk. A Momo born in poverty, wanting for basic essentials, living a rough life with very limited opportunities, yearning as every human do for things that can make getting through a day easier. So why not use her quirk? Why not make her life better when she has the means to do so right in her hands? Between the maybe future possibility of maybe getting caught for illegal quirk use, and the immediate certainty of survival - it’s not a choice at all.

Of course, that’s assuming she could receive the education and afford the time spent studying atomic structures and composition. Hard to use your quirk that requires in depth knowledge in material and engineering chemistry if you didn’t have the money to buy the textbook that teaches you those things. This Momo might have a powerful Creation quirk, but too bad she doesn’t know how to use it; is unable to use it. In which case she’ll just be another disadvantaged poor kid, nothing special.

What’s that fun quote about how the law equally forbids both the rich and poor from stealing bread or sleeping on the streets? So too does Hero Society Law equally forbids both the rich and poor from using their quirks.

This is the worst case scenario, it’s true. A strawman example to make my point - but canon Momo is already living the Best Case scenario, so like, I think it’s only fair to consider the equal opposite.

If socioeconomic disparity is ever addressed in the story - tho i’m not even going to try holding my breath - I’m assuming this theory has Mr. Compress playing a part because he’s from the Robin Hood-esque Steal-From-The-Rich-And-Powerful-Warrior-Caste-Heroes-To-Give-To-The-Poor/Everyfolk lineage of Harima Oji. Momo’s family is the perfect target esp. with a Hero Momo who is blind to her fortunes and has never questioned the status quo. I would love to see it.

I'm surprised people see Tadashi as the victim in his relationship with Ainosuke, when it's Tadashi the one who time and time again takes away Ainosuke's agency, without being able to see that he is throwing him unto unhappiness. I can't help but think that if Tadashi was not working at Shindo's house, Ainosuke would have maybe left or broke with the family. But he can't do that if he wants the relationship with Tadashi going on, seing how Tadashi is set on enforcing the family rules...

Hmm.. I def agree with the fact that Tadashi is not what most fandom makes out of him, my man (I mean, Adam’s man) is a 100% Slytherin. But I disagree with blaming him for this, after all the revealed info. The environment they were both raised in made their situation complicated.

I like Tadashi a lot, he’s probably my fav thing about this anime, bc he’s a dark horse, and I’m once again surprised, that so little ppl see him for who he really is, portraying him as an innocent puppy, which he is definitely not.

Now to why I think both Tadashi and Adam are victims of the dad and aunties in this situation.

We can of course say “if only they told each other how they really feel...”, but like we can say it about any love story really. Every author knows it’s no fun. The truth is that yes, they both hurt each other, and yes, if they were honest about their feelings things would’ve been different, but as I’ve already wrote under that “toxic” commentary on YT, lets look at the whole situation from both of their point of views:

We know that Adam when he was little always treated Tadashi as an equal, he never ever thought of him as someone lower than him and after their fall out, the only reason for this “harsh” treatment (well, besides their confirmed kink) was that Adam tried to get a reaction out of him, so Tadashi would stand up for himself, bc Ainosuke got mad about Tadashi caving to his dad’s wishes and abandoning him, when he needed him the most.

But now, knowing the fact that Tadashi was his dad’s secretary and was under his control, let’s see it from his perspective: Tadashi wanted to stay by Adam’s side, Adam’s dad implied that if Tadashi did say smth, he’s gonna be.. well, dismissed and they won’t see each other ever again. That’s what caused Tadashi to stay silent in that moment. Ainosuke instead saw this as a “he’s not on my side” thing, well, because. Tadashi won’t tell him his problem, bc dad and aunties control everything, so even if he does tell him, what a teen would do really? He didn’t have any powers back then to make his dad do anything.

And that’s when it all gone to shit, since they both were hurt for their own reasons. It’s easy to say leave the family, but 1stly nobody explained to Adam still that he’s physically and psychologically abused by his family, he sees it as them “loving him” and sadly also loves them, bc nobody told him, that love wasn’t supposed to be like that really. He definitely feels that smth is not right and feels emotionally exhausted there bc of this treatment, but did he ever consider leaving? I really don’t think so. He feels obligated to be worthy of a family, who “loves” him.

Do you think, for example, that Akashi Seijuro hates his dad for what he did to him? No. Does he understand that he wasn’t at fault for what happened to him and that his dad instead of comforting his child after his mother’s death, who was his only safe haven, made everything worse? I don’t think he does. Like his mom gave him basketball, an escape from all that family’s obligations and strictness. After her death, it was the only thing left that brought him joy, but his dad ruined even that, saying that if he’s gonna be bad at it/lose, he’d take it away from him too. Does Akashi see this as emotional abuse? No, he sees it like “well, I have to be the best bc I was born in such powerful family, so if my dad says that I must be best at everything, then I must.”

I personally hate such parents a lot. To me it doesn’t matter if Adam’s dad didn’t know about aunties hitting his child. Like if he was too busy to notice this and have no time for his kid and made his childhood miserable, it doesn’t make it any better really.

Same as with Akashi’s dad. Some are like “he was probably also grieving about his wife”. Emm? He was like this from the beginning, bc he treated Akashi not as his son, but as his heir. And yes, that’s different things. Same with Endeavor and Todoroki. Your child is not your post production thing.

2ndly they were too young, even if they knew about each others feelings and he didn’t feel obligated and told everyone to fuck off, they’d be on the streets now, but also Adam’s dad doesn’t seem like a guy who’d leave them alone really. Also eloping seems very romantic, but I don’t think it is, esp when you’re teens. Did you want him to sell some expensive watch and go live on Hawaii or smth? Bc finding a decent job there would be difficult at this age, esp with everyone knowing who your dad is. Chen Ke from “Antidote” survived bc he was 27 and had connections and some great friends. Adam was in high school, where would he go exactly?

Now let’s go back to now. Obviously all this time it didn’t even cross Tadashi’s mind that for Ainosuke he comes first and that he would throw everyone under the bus to make Tadashi stay with him. As we see at the end, he legit believed that Adam was planning to send him to jail and didn’t get that he said it just to shaken he up and that he knew who he’d set up for this from the beginning.

To Adam obviously it doesn’t matter whether they’re in a quarrel or not, he would never him go. Yes, he’s mad at him, he’s angry and hurt, but Tadashi’s still the person he needs the most, he’s still the person who brightens his days, even tho he deliberately behaves like he annoys him. He always looks at him and looks at him and looks at him, but then hisses smth to hurt him. Bc he knows that he needs him, but he also hates that he needs him, bc he thinks it’s unrequited.

And that’s how their classic romance goes in hellish circles. No one wants to talk as usual. Adam is mad Tadashi is like that bc his dad turned him into a slave with no opinion, while Tadashi is scared that Adam would be taken away from him bc of his ugly family.

Now I still think that no one and I mean no one can take Tadashi from Adam now, he is his precious. So my plan is... if Tadashi made aunties do smth against him or to get rid of him, aunties will go for sure. The problem is Tadashi still doesn’t get that he comes first, so we’re stuck in this hell still.

So anyways, my point is Adam’s heart basically sings “you got a hold of me, don’t even know your power” to Tadashi, but he doesn’t hear it, bc of his insecurities, the way he was raised and his status. But yes, he holds all the power. He’s both Adam’s sanity and insanity. No matter how cheesy it sounds he was basically his only ray of sunshine in the darkness, if you take it away, that’s what it leads to, that’s why Ainosuke-sama needs more ppl who care for him. I don’t want anyone to die next time, just cause Tadashi and Adam fought about where to put their new couch lmao. I’m kidding, but you know what I mean. And kill the aunties, pls seriously, we need to be free.

Also ppl need to remember that like lots of animes/characters are parcially inspired by some other animes/characters, also the chosen seiyuus are also very important, there are lots of stuff like jokes and references, that creators use, from characters being fully inspired by smth like “Assassination classroom” characters based on KNB, to little stuff like Levi dressed in Akashi’s uniform in chibi AOT bc Hiroshi Kamiya. Utsumi already said before stuff like she sometimes think of a perfect voice for the character and then fully forms him, we also know her clear love for sports animes. So yes, I doubt Tadashi/Kuroko thing is a coincidence and even tho someone was like “zone? is this knb or smth?” I was like no, zone is actually a common thing in sports, even tho most associate it with KNB including me, it’s not like its their invention, but there were things inspired by this for sure, and from other sports animes too and no, I don’t mean the basic sports anime tropes, I mean, like way too specific things, some character designes, too. And yes, Langa appearence and personality wise is a rinharu child for real, I can literally split his scenes in “that’s Haru”, “that’s Rin”.

That’s why I’ve said that this situation in fandom reminds me of Kuroko/Akashi situation a lot, bc same as here in KNB ppl for some reason automatically thought that Kuroko is this innocent sheep and Akashi is the wolf (but also like it was Akashi who chose to dress as red riding hood, while Kuroko was a wolf lmao), not even seeing who is in reality more dangerous and who can easily control who. It just buffles me bc it’s not some deep analisys really. I mean once again there’s a reason for the saying that the sub holds all the power over the dom.

And like just bc someone yells or threatens ppl constantly doesn’t necessarily mean he is a psycopatic killer, and just bc someone is quiet and doe-eyed, doesn’t mean he isn’t. I didn’t think we needed to explain this to someone, but aparently we do?

And it honestly kills me just how superficially ppl are watching things these days. It really gives me war flashbacks to stuff like the last mdzs s1 episode, where ppl started to comment things like “how LZ can be so heartless” lmao. Or that anonymous ask “do you think haru misses rin?”. Like you don’t see thing at all? Grey substance no needed, while watching things?

P.S. I also would die to see Adam vs Tadashi race just bc I for some reason can bet all my money, that it’s the same situation as with Akashi refusing to ankle break Kuroko, no matter how mad he is. I just can’t imagine Ainosuke hitting Tadashi in the face with a board. Like 100% sure he wouldn’t even try tbh.

headcanon.

50 headcanon challenge prompted by @bnharpchub bc so many people were doing it on dash and my restraint is only so strong

coming up with 50 new headcanons was so difficult jfc AWOEINAWE i cheated a bit and some of them mention hcs I already wrote about before, but I did my best to focus on a different part of it to give it a new spin so it’s technically new....ish. awoieNAWEIAWNE

he learned how to cook because his parents were always busy and he wasn’t going to just expect them to cook for him when he could just do it himself ( he learned a whole LOT of things because he realized he could just do it himself )

he doesn’t usually keep things for sentiment reasons. there ARE a few exceptions, but for the most part if it’s important enough to remember he’ll just simply remember it

he likes the view from up high. mountain climbing really made him aware of that, and it was a part of the reason why he wanted to learn how to fly ( that, and just the fact of it being practical, using his quirk to enhance movement )

sometimes puts on a clear coat of nail strengthening polish during weeks of particular harsh training. he would put on coloured polish too, but they often get ruined very quickly because of how much he uses his hands and so he doesn’t see the point to do it often

his sweat isn’t actually toxic ( mostly bc I do NOT want to deal with all the problems having toxic sweat would cause, but there is more to it that I’ll write in depth of another day when I’m less lazy )

His volume is one of the few ways he feels like he can be heard. His mother is also a very loud person, and growing up he would be stuck in situations where if he doesn’t yell LOUDER, he won’t be heard. If he is WILLINGLY quiet around you, that is a sign of trust, a sign that he’s comfortable enough to not feel the need to be loud.

he cannot stand his mouth being covered, nor does he take well to being told to keep quiet. He GETS that not many people appreciate his loudness. He KNOWS there is always time and place. But being loud is a defensive mechanism, and it being taken away against his will just messes with him a lot.

speaking of, a large part of why he got the ‘i dont give a fuck about anyone else’ attitude is because no one would really care about him. It wasn’t just because he had a big head. He was acutely aware that people around him would praise him and rise him up, but never actually listen to him or cared what he wants. Why should he care about other people if no one gave a fuck about him? ( he knows better now )

he’s cautious about giving villains second chances. it’s not like he’s against giving villains a chance at redemption ( he knows he’d be a fucking hypocrite if he was ) but he also is realistic, and knows that some people are just shitheads and will refuse to change no matter what. knows that some people will take advantage of people with bleeding hearts ( cOUGHS like dEKU’s COUGHS ) and so he’s just. very wary and distrusting. he’ll give you a chance, but he’s going to watch you during it.

if the ranking system of heroes gets abolished, it won’t really affect Katsuki’s goals. from the start when he says ‘number one hero’ what he cares most about is being number one by HIS standards. ofc he was planning to get ranked number one too, but if such a system falls apart, he’d just make sure he becomes the Best till no one can argue against it either way

katsuki has always used his quirk often. he hates rules regulating quirk use because it’s so stupid to him. how the hell was he going to become number one if he didn’t know how to use his own damn quirk? ofc he still tried to abide by the law well enough, in public refraining for the most part ( but his middle school very obviously was super lacking in discipline so he just didn’t bother hiding his usage of quirk there )

his quirk acts up when he has high emotion — but MOST of the time, that is less him losing control and more of a conscious decision on his part. resisting the urge to explode when his body is aching to is dangerous, so it’s better to let loose small, controlled, explosions when the time comes. He works hard to keep control of his quirk, he knows when it’s best to just let explosions loose and when he can hold it in

even without explosions he has a habit of his fingers twisting or fist clenching when he’s high strung. restricting his hands in any way, esp during these times, are an absolute no for him. he WILL react violently if you take away his only method of physically defending himself.

the reason why he NEEDS to be able to defend himself at all times comes from his lack of trust. He doesn’t WANT to rely on other people, because they could mess up so it’s just better to do it himself. so if people try and stop him from doing it himself.... just nope.

he’s so so so SO bad at accepting compliments. he’s used to empty meaningless compliments, praise for things he didn’t even earn, so getting actual compliments that are WORTH something. it’s. a lot. he doesn’t know how to properly handle it yet so his first reaction is to reject it somehow ( either by telling the person they are being an idiot, or finding fault in the compliment itself, or something along those lines )

he has a base respect for pro heroes in general, because he understands that they have experience he is obviously lacking being a student. but he won’t be blinded by their status. if they fuck up, they fuck up and no ‘hero’ status will keep him from recognizing that

he doesn’t actually hate quirkless people. he never really has. he had a problem with DEKU, but not exactly quirkless people in general. he started calling Izuku as “Deku” before he knew that he would never get a quirk. He called him ‘deku’ because izuku would fail at bouncing a ball or skipping stones and such ( back then, almost ALL people were ‘useless’ to him, not just quirkless people aoweinaoweianwe )

he as sharp teeth. not enough to be called fangs or anything, but they are definitely sharper than average ( he’s a little gremlin so I must give him sharp teeth )

he’s still struggling to ask for help. he can easily admit that he needs backup when it comes to hero works — knows that teamwork is essential at times and saving and BEING saved in turn is how being a hero is. BUT for PERSONAL things? Outside of being a hero? As a person??? He doesn’t know HOW to ask for help with that.

He’s ALWAYS been super independent. so people just. expect him to be fine on his own. HE himself expected to be fine on his own. But by the time he realized wait no, I’m not fine. People stopped trying to check up on him. ( until U.A., but then old habits die hard. but he’s learning )

he tends to shower at night more than in the mornings, because he often works out not too long before bed. he also just takes more than one shower a day if needed ofc he takes hygiene seriously

he HATES when he can’t get a full night’s sleep. And sadly ever since getting kidnapped it’s been happening more and more often. he’s unused to functioning without a full eight or nine hours, so he gets cranky all day and feels fucking awful. He used to hate naps, felt like a waste of his day, but they’ve become a bit of a necessity with how shit his sleeping pattern has become. ( plus jordyn’s shoto has shown him the wonders of napping aowienawe )

he doesn’t take long to get ready in the morning. even if he needs to dress differently for an occasion or anything, he doesn’t spend long trying to decide what to wear

his quirk isn’t affected by rain or water like people would expect, but it’s fucking COLD so he still hates getting wet

he’s really good at fighting even without his quirk. he absolutely has thought of situations where he couldn’t use his quirk to full capacity, and so he decided he needed to kick ass even without it

he’s really level-headed in battle!!! despite how he acts, he ALWAYS considers all options and acts on the best one. He just thinks really fast and acts the way he does so it SEEMS like he’s charging in without thinking ahead. That being said, he used to often underestimate his opponents so he’d sometimes make the wrong call. He’s getting MUCH better at not doing that lately tho

he doesn’t really celebrate his own birthday. he gets well wishes from his family, often they’d get a cake maybe, but he doesn’t really WANT or NEED presents, so he had his parents stop trying to gift him things years ago. His birthday is SUPER close to the beginning of the year, so it is often times overlooked by his peers too, but he doesn’t care

Katsuki is demisexual!! He can recognize when people are traditionally attractive, but he doesn’t really fucking care and isn’t attracted TO them. It’s only once they’ve become someone he actually CARES about could he then develop any feelings beyond platonic ones ( no love at first sight here )

he’d NEVER pick up smoking, and even when of age he’d very rarely drink. He wouldn’t want his health to deteriorate by stuff like that. And he wouldn’t want his ability to think be hindered by alcohol

he doesn’t like lying unless for good reason ( like hiding ofa ) but he doesn’t see lying by omission as the same. To him, that’s just him deciding it’s no one’s business and so there’s no need for him to admit to anything

people have tried to bully him as a kid. we’ve seen him chase off older kids in canon before. It wasn’t just a one time thing. It was pretty constant, actually. Other kids, usually those older than him, would hear about him and his attitude and try and ‘put him in his place’ It’s not like he was very popular as a kid, it’s just that Katsuki always WON any fights so no one could actually do anything to him

his nicknames, for the most part, aren’t actually meant to be insulting. Besides like Deku, and when he called Todoroki “holding back bastard”, the rest are just,,, descriptions in his mind aowienAWE ThEY ARE RUDE AF but he doesn’t actually seek out the rudest name he can think of to call people. It’s just whatever comes to mind first

he doesn’t actually mind when people call him out on his shit anymore. he’d in fact admit that they have guts to do so. If they try and call him out on BULLSHIT though, then he’d get angry bc they are just wasting his goddamn time.

he KNOWS when his classmates are purposefully manipulating him to doing something by phrasing it as a challenge. It’s just he doesn’t give a shit, he’ll rise to the challenge anyways and prove them all WRONG.

If he really doesn’t wanna do something, there’s absolutely nothing that could get him to do it

his way of SHOWING that he cares is through actions and gifts. Doing things for people ( studying, cooking, etc ) that he cares about comes naturally to him

On the contrary, he struggles to process it when people try and show that they care the same way. He doesn’t like getting gifts, and he rather do the things he needs to himself??? The easiest way he can understand people showing that they care is through quality time. If you are willing to spend time with him, seek him out? He can get that means you WANT to. ( if this is proven wrong it’d shake his entire acceptance in that person. he’d struggle to believe that they care for him at all in any way after )

once you broke his trust, it’s impossible to gain it back. he DOESNT trust easily. he takes so many careful measures to prevent himself from trusting the wrong person. if he gave you his trust you better fucking treasure it, because it’s only given out once. That being said, there are different levels of trust that katsuki gives out — as seen on his relationship page. Level two trust is when it starts getting serious. If you have that, that’s when if broken it’s unfixable. Level one trust is a toss up if broken, very dependent on situation

soft smiles are hard to come by from katsuki! We’ve all seen his confident grins in the face of danger all the time — he smiles a lot during challenges and battle!! But soft ones? Full of fondness and love? They are pretty rare. And even when they DO happen, often it’s only when no one can see

His EYES are actually what turns soft first!! You have a better chance catching his eyes and eyebrows turn a bit less aggressive, but again they aren’t exactly common per say. He doesn’t like showing such expression unless he feels like attention is off him. ( he just. isn’t USED to expressing himself this way. so he doesn’t really like when people draw attention to when he does. because it makes him feel like he did something wrong, in a way )

it’s actually easy to make katsuki flustered and embarrassed. he’S not uSED to it so he’s weak let him live aowieNAWE his ears are the first to turn red!!! but if you really get him embarrassed he does go completely red sorry kats

he does all of his homework well in advance. he hates leaving ANYTHING to the last minute, really

he’s done modeling work as a kid. sometimes he still does, but very rarely. He doesn’t exactly hate doing it, but he just isn’t the least bit interested so he rather spend his time doing something else. When he does do it, you bet he takes it 100% seriously.

he won’t argue if someone calls him a shit person. he knows that he is, and he refuses to deny that. what DOES piss him off though is when people solely focus on how shit of a person he is to the extend of disregarding the perfect results he gives. He’s a shit person, but he’s still the BEST and fuck anyone who says otherwise.

he also knows that he is changing, because it’s a conscious effort on his part TO change. But that’s also the thing. He’s working hard to not be shitty ALL the time, but that doesn’t change the fact that at his core, he’s still not a NICE person. he’s acutely aware that the things he struggles so much with, comes so easy to other people. He wont let this STOP him , he’s never called it quits before just because something was difficult for him, but it still sucks. knowing just how much effort he’s putting into this when some people barely think about it at all

katsuki was well versed in medical knowledge even before U.A. Not because he was thinking about how heroes may need to give emergency care on the field, but just from his own injuries during self training. he needed to know how to treat them properly so it doesn’t cause him problems in the future

katsuki runs hot, but he gets cold easily. Because he’s used to keeping himself running at high temperatures, his concept of cold is different than most other’s. Suddenly being in like sixty five degrees Fahrenheit feels COLD to him

intended use for furniture are only suggestions. That means yes, he WILL sit on top of desks and counters, stand on top of chairs, and put his feet on the bed while he lays on the floor if he so goddamn chooses.

no matter how close with a person he is, he’ll eventually need time alone and his personal space left untouched. It takes a lot to get to the point where physical touch is something he’d allow, ( having both touch starvation and touch aversion in equal parts ) but even with people he is completely comfortable with, sometimes it still gets to be TOO mUCH and he needs to step back. he has bad days, too. where just a brush of contact would set him off and he can’t understand himself why it happens. all he knows is that he really hates those days.

it still stings, the knowledge that All Might never even considered him for a possible successor. he was RIGHT THERE when all might picked izuku, after all. and all might can say all he wants about how ‘he was already powerful, he wanted to give midoriya a fighting chance’ or whatever. he knows he was never a contender. it’s not that he WANTS ofa though. he is perfectly happy with his quirk. It’s not even that it’s deku who ended up getting it, he in retrospect is glad deku can fight him now. It’s just. in the end, he’s always always lacking something. it just fuels to his belief of never being good enough when it counts. because HE is NEVER anyone’s first choice to be the up and coming number one. He’s GOING to be. He’ll prove EVERYONE wrong. But, it sure would be nice. Someone else believing in him, too.

so proud of my boy Teddy! he’s a good leader, and the defining characteristic of his reign is his kindness, which is Very Different from kree/skrull culture. as evil grandma says there will be those who see his mercy as a weakness, and there are veterans on both sides of the war who can’t accept the new status quo of a unified kree-skrull empire—a deeper look at how to deal with people who refuse to consider anything but bloodshed without losing your own kindness would be interesting to tackle (esp when there are more people who reject the unification/pacifist rule than initially expected)

I also don’t think Teddy actually wants to rule an empire; he’s clearly comfortable with being a leader now and is willing to step up to the plate, but empires by definition have specific connotations. it’d be kinda rad if Teddy doesn’t just aim for a merciful reign, but seeks to change the structure of the empire itself, eg. introduce concepts like democracy or other systems of governance. Teddy tackling the question of whether leading is necessarily the same as ruling, and navigating the similarities/differences between them is MY JAM

also... i love Teddy and he’s clearly competent at his job so far, but he didn't grow up learning statecraft. i know comics love Huge Cosmic Events but honestly? intergalactic diplomatic dinners are just as high-stakes—what’s the point of making characters royalty if they’re not drawn into political intrigue?????

there's a lot of potential for Mur-G'nn & Billy interactions imo—Billy’s been appointed as Court Mage at the royal wedding, which was her job on the flagship. in Lords of Empyre #1 her assessment of Billy in front of the court suggests that her main concern isn’t Billy’s human heritage, or even Teddy’s devotion to the alliance being divided, but because "this man is a chaos-bringer. He threatens destiny itself.” on the other hand, she seems a bit more apologetic about separating Billy from Teddy than the other detractors, and sends Carol and Johnny to Billy for help when fake!Teddy orders their exile

given the factors above i’d like it if Billy and Mur-G’nn get along well, but disagree on the concept of destiny and its role in Teddy’s reign. it’d also be great if neither are presented as being foolish, but have ways of looking at the world and certain beliefs due to their upbringing and personal experiences. (Mur-G’nn and her cohorts being hunted to near extinction, with the Dorrek Supreme prophecy giving their lives meaning and hope, makes sense for why she thinks destiny is sacred and must be protected. Billy, bullied viciously as a teenager because he can’t/is unwilling to hide who he is, plus his op powerset and upbringing, naturally has different ideas about destiny.)

... add the myriad kree/skrull perspectives on spirituality, religion and belief (pssst marvel bring Xavin back!) and you have a hook for understanding the people of the combined empire better imo. again, making it Billy vs everyone else is super boring, so a spectrum is appreciated.

also? just imagine space politicians trying to schmooze with William “it’s other people who have a problem with me” Kaplan-Altman—he’s polite enough but they soon realize he has a stubborn streak

that said, i think adjusting to their new circumstances could be really quite compelling? like, on earth Billy’s the "more important one” in the sense that he gets more missions with other heroes, and a lot of Young Avenger plots are connected to him/his powers, but Teddy is now KING of SPACE. on earth the’re relatively independent heroes, but at court their titles comes with certain specific responsibilities and expectations. their relationship is going to be everybody’s business now, so there’s probably some culture shock all around until they get used to it.

it’s all politics, even when it doesn’t look like it—again, neither of Billy or Teddy grew up learning statecraft, they’re getting by with natural charisma right now. their advisors probably wanna cry

I’d actually really like to see Kl’rt trying (and knowing marvel probably failing) to serve as a diplomat. just trying REALLY HARD to promote peace when instincts tell him to settle the matter by violence, doing his best to atone for all the innocent lives he had cut short, processing the notion of duty and service to his nation/the crown and the nuances involved. honestly i think having him struggle between his past training and his new determination to not disappoint Teddy’s expectations could be really compelling—furthermore if they take the time to examine his loyalty to Teddy: how much of it is motivated by patriotism and belief in Teddy’s reign, how much of it is personal guilt?

It’d also be rad as heck if the family from Meet the Skrulls and Road to Empyre are featured in a small plot or two—it’s an opportunity to see how Teddy’s policies affect Kree/Skrulls on earth! After all, now will the agents on earth react to long-term peace?

I’d also LOVE IT if Xavin comes back, even just briefly. like... they believed in Teddy even when Teddy didn’t want to face his responsibilities (”To not believe in you, the savior, the uniter, is to not believe in hope.”). them being inactive for so damn long means they’ll have to process the kree-skrull unification, and how it’s probably different than what they had expected initially when it’s said Teddy will unite the skrulls—i don’t think Xavin ever thought a kree-skrull alliance is possible growing up, so that could be interesting. also? i just miss them lol

not to be dumb on main, but I’ve only rly seen the mcu and not read many comics and I was wondering if you could tell me the reasons you ship spideytorch? Esp bc it’s spideytorch week

I can do that, especially in light of it being Spideytorch week. (I can even tie it into the first two days of @spideytorchweek‘s themes because I’m brilliant like that.) If you’re coming from a mostly MCU background, what you need to know about Spider-Man comics is that, by in large, they’re a very different animal, especially in terms of Peter’s personality and supporting cast. Unlike in the MCU, he doesn’t have a best friend in high school – there is a Ned Leeds in comics, but he’s a reporter for the Bugle who functions as Peter’s rival for the affections of his first girlfriend, Bugle secretary Betty Brant, and Peter wouldn’t meet Harry Osborn or become friends with Flash Thompson until he entered college. If Peter does have a male friend he’s close to during this point, for the relative value of “friend”, it’s Johnny Storm.

Peter and Johnny first meet in the very first issue of Amazing Spider-Man. This is partially because the Fantastic Four’s brief appearance in the issue were used promote this new superhero book. One thing you have to understand at this point is that the Fantastic Four were wildly popular at their debut, and featuring them in the first solo Spider-Man story was a surefire way to get people to pick up the book. What this ending up cementing was a long and storied in-universe connection between Spider-Man and the Fantastic Four. Peter’s served as an Avenger in 616, but he’s family to the Fantastic Four.

Not that Peter and Johnny got along at first.

(Strange Tales Annual #2) There was some pretty extreme pigtail pulling going on at first from Peter towards Johnny.

This is one of the premier friendships – developing at this point as it is – in Marvel comics. It basically predates all of the other big ones: Captain America and Iron Man, Luke Cage and Danny Rand, any other big Spider-Man friendship. This came first. There’s a lot of reasons for that – team ups between the Human Torch, who at this point was big enough to have his own run on Strange Tales in addition to the Fantastic Four, and Spider-Man, an instant hit with fans, was good for the sales on both books, and the relationship made sense and was organic because both characters were teenagers who were the same age, who had gained powers in fantastic accidents, and who both had personalities suited to a banter-filled rapport filled with fun bickering.

In spite or maybe because of that early bickering, though, it quickly becomes apparent that Johnny really respects and admires Spider-Man:

Peter Parker, on the other hand, who Johnny’s at the time girlfriend Dorrie Evans thinks is just so polite and gentlemanly? Peter Parker, Johnny doesn’t like so much at this point.

(Amazing Spider-Man #21) And here we have the beginning of our identity porn, practically a staple when it comes to superhero ships. This kind of dynamic between Johnny and Spider-Man/Peter Parker would continue up until Peter revealed his identity to Johnny in the middle of a crisis, having to silently trust him to understand:

So you’ve got this amazingly long history, and from the beginning the shippy tropes are piling on – Johnny saying he could understand if his girlfriend fell for Spider-Man, Peter and Johnny having their own special meeting place, and then there’s the fact that Johnny gets kidnapped to use as bait for Spider-Man:

Fast forward a bit. After the death of Gwen Stacy, who Peter was very much in love with and who he was seriously talking about marriage with, Peter unsurprisingly falls into a dark mood. One of the bright spots for him? Building the Spider-Mobile, which he’d been hired by an automotive company to drive, with Johnny:

In an updated version of this story in Spider-Man/Human Torch #3 (they even had their own team up comic!), Peter speaks to Gwen’s ghost-slash-memory, and says that when he’s with Johnny he feels like he’s “her” Peter again, the best version of himself:

“And for the first time in a long time, it doesn’t feel like I’m putting on act, or going through the motions. Suddenly, I’m Spidey again. No, I’m Peter again. Your Peter.” Considering Peter was head over heels in love with Gwen and planned to spend the rest of his life with her, that’s one hell of a romantic statement.

Couple this with the fact that, in and out of the mask, Johnny’s consistently one of the best people at calming Peter down and making him take a step back. That might not sound too impressive if you’re not familiar with comics Peter, but in comics, when he’s angry and upset, he has a tendency to verbally lash out at people he loves and isolate himself. It’s generally not a good idea to get in the middle of one of his fights, either – think like inserting yourself into the fight when your dog’s trying to fight another dog. Your dog might love you, but there’s still a very good chance you’re gonna get bit. Johnny’s success record here is unmatched.

Then there’s the fact that Peter clearly feels protective of Johnny. (Though, to be fair, 616 Peter feels very protective about everyone he loves.) When Johnny lost his powers and was on a self-destructive bender, Peter teamed up with Johnny’s other best friend, Wyatt Wingfoot, to snap him out of it:

(Fantastic Four v5 #12) Look at that hand on Johnny’s stomach, steadying him on the building’s ledge. Also look how pretty Johnny is – the real question is, why isn’t he shipped more?

Peter also spent served as Johnny’s personal taxi afterwards:

When the Red Skull recently possessed Johnny and failed to make Johnny hurt his teammates, he taunted Peter by threatening to kill Johnny in front of him, a threat to which Peter violently reacted:

So there you have your hurt/comfort, the second trope at play here. (Also, Johnny is a champion damsel of the Marvel universe. I once tried to average out how much he faints and came out with something like 1 out of every 3 issues in the early Fantastic Four days. If you like your hurt/comfort, Johnny Storm is right here, collapsing all the time and getting kidnapped by giant gorillas at least three, one time of which – Amazing Spider-Man Annual #4 – Peter has to save him.)

There’s a million other factors that play into “reasons why I ship them” here – they canonically consider themselves family. They have an established tradition to meet up every Christmas morning at the Statue of Liberty. When Johnny died (he got better) he left a video will instructing that his place on the team be left to Peter and saying that “we all love you”:

They lived together when Johnny was recovered alive for a short period of time, during which Johnny cooked Peter breakfast in nothing but his underwear and a saucy apron, yes, really:

(FF #17 – there are word bubbles here in the finished issue, but they just distract from the rest of this, honestly.) And when Johnny’s family disappeared and Peter found himself unexpectedly a millionaire (long story), he bought the Baxter Building to keep it safe for Johnny. They’ve mentioned having movie nights in canon. Whether or not anyone ships them, it’s hard to deny in canon that they love each other, and that they have a bond forged over decades and decades worth of canon. They’re incredibly close, to the point where, when Peter’s identity was wiped from the minds of just about everyone on the planet, Johnny was one of the few people (along with Felicia Hardy, Peter’s ex-girlfriend) who knew that he used to know who Spider-Man was, and the loss of that knowledge hurt him deeply. They’ve fought together, they’ve saved each other lives, they’ve celebrated holidays together, and they’ve propped each other when the other needed it. It’s a ship with so much history it’s honestly hard to sum them up quickly or efficiently – honestly, they have more history and more reasons to ship them than, I would say, at least 80% of other popular ships and I mean ships in general, not just Marvel ships. It’s pretty amazing to have a relationship in canon that has endured the test of so many years and still remained incredibly relevant to each character. ok so a big thing is that ezra’s slow but currently steady rise to fame within the music industry has been alarmingly quick and that fact has shaped a lot of his personality; think justin bieber or shawn mendes with their gaining an initial fanbase and then a loyal following via starting out on youtube / other social media outlets as a young teenager, only with a much messier, Rockstar™ persona and you have ezra ward

there’s a pretty distinct difference between the version of himself that much of his dedicated fanbase perceptions are based on, and the Real Him. in the media he’s gradually becoming more of a household name for being a musician with a mostly positive message, an inclusive fanbase, a charming personality and being an all around humble, approachable, likable young guy

in his personal life, things are a bit,, different. he’s a hedonist, through and through, in that his pursuit of pleasure ranks far above everything else on his priority list. he’s also extremely sybaritic meaning crazy self indulgent when it comes to luxury, and in his late teens when he had the world at his fingertips, it was all about having the Best everything (mini bars, expensive cars, the good champagne, n private planes- ok i’ll shut up now no one needs my bad 1d references rn)

so basically he spent ages 17-19 as a touring musician after forming a backing band built of some his closest friends from high school, all the while earning his associates in arts in music through an online program; balancing social media as a full time job, getting to perform live in any kind of larger capacity, and still doing well in college posed quite a challenge, especially as he became more focused on the rockstar lifestyle and less on school

still, he never stopped wanting to learn as much as he possibly could about music, determined to become a master of his craft, so he earned his degree and kept hungry for knowledge. after a near-overdose the summer after he turned 19 however, his parents and their what felt to him like faux-concern at the time eventually talked him into putting touring and gaining celebrity status on the back burner for a while

in exchange for a proposed change in habits and lifestyle, they offered to pay for him to apply for and attend the prestigious university of his choice so he could get his bachelor’s degree in music theory, something he agreed to after heavy deliberation, and only after he had a personal realization about just how much the limelight was getting to him, the brighter it became did he decide it was for the best that he stepped back from it to focus on school

choosing college over touring / growing the band’s popularity cost him a few members of his backing band / friends who had no interest in ‘waiting around for him to finish getting some stupid degree’ and went on to pursue other projects, which meant he no longer had the same support system in that group of friends that he’d become so used to, and that lead him to seek out a new one almost as soon as he was enrolled at northridge as a freshman: he immediately pledged omega pi (bc we all know what a frat boy harry looked like at 19, hello, i’m not passing that up), finding that he fit right in with its reputation for being full of guys who were heavily focused on partying, and now that he’s a junior he’s in charge of marketing & recruitment :~)

his appetite for pleasure & luxury coupled with still considering himself a rich, successful musician and just being an incredibly sexually fueled person in general makes for a really delicious and dangerous mix ngl and so far in his 21 short years he’s lived a pretty Wildt life, even while at college

he hasn’t released anything music-wise for the couple of years he’s been at university, but he wants 22 (he turns that soon hi he’s an aquarius ass bitch) to be the year that changes, where he delves back into it and truly becomes the artist he was ~destined to be~ or whateva

frequently considers whether or not he made the right choice in essentially choosing college over being an artist / celebrity for the time being, and wonders if dropping out would be the better option (esp bc he thinks he only has so much Time anyway, more info below), but always talks himself out of it

is Firmly Set on the idea he’s going to be part of the 27 club (my boi is already almost 22 like :/ excuse u sir, snap out of that? someone give him a reason to live lmfao no i’m kidding i promise)

has an underlying hopelessly romantic side / has had a lot of either toxic or very intense relationships / has hurt & been hurt by a lot of people, so he has an extreme aversion to emotional attachment and falling in love / prefers casual sex / thinks he’ll never have a long term relationship again (yikes ik like hi get some therapy babe)

Hey Rosy ! What's your take on Echo's backstory ? Why do you think she gets one in season 6 and why not any another character? What do you think is the purpose ? thank you :)

Who said we’d only see Echo? It’s about facing your demons and they all have them. However that’s going to come out, it’s going to come out for everyone. The difference might be that Echo hasn’t HAD any backstory, while we have backstory for ALL the other characters, at least a bit. Even Emori has a past with abandonment and her brother and what she had to do to survive, even if we haven’t seen it.

Please don’t take a narrative arc for one character to be a betrayal of the others. This is an ensemble show which means we SHARE screen time with all the characters. Your faves don’t own the story. And secondary characters who are used to tell the main story are there TO SERVE THE NARRATIVE. All characters are narrative tools. Whether you like them or not, they expand the story. They add conflict. They bring up themes and questions we need to address.

I can’t actually have a take on her backstory until I’ve seen it. And because we’ve gotten none in canon, there is no take I can have.

I can have a take on her place in the story and how I see her character fitting into the themes. That’s a canon interpretation.

I can also reflect upon how the things JR and Tasya have said about Echo can reflect upon the canon we have and make speculations about how that would look in s6.

As far as I can tell, and this is NOT canon, but based upon Tasya’s interviews and JR’s statements about Echo, Echo had a similar history to Ontari. She was taken from her family as a child to serve the throne. Queen Nia was not a good person and seems to have been abusive to those in her care and a tyrant for her people.

I believe Echo was a child slave/soldier. She has never had a family. She has always been a servant/slave. She gained some status as a high level soldier/spy/servant of the throne but she was NOT free to make her own decisions on her life or follow who she would want to follow or anything. She is incredibly loyal because loyalty was trained into her as a child, and she does not want anything for herself because she was not allowed.

Therefore, spacekru was the first time she had a family of people who cared for her as her, the first time she had a right to choose her own life. Bellamy was the first time she got to fall in love because she wanted it.

HOWEVER, being confined with only 7 people for 6 years means THAT SHE DID NOT ACTUALLY HAVE A CHOICE. They were her only options. Bellamy was the only single man. Not only that, but she will also have fixated upon him as her “king” in the exact same manner that she was trained to do as a child. HE is her throne which she is loyal to.

She has not made any choices STILL. She just was allowed to live without violence, war, or abuse.

THIS concept of Echo’s backstory can be seen in her history with Azgeda that we know, and inferred for her spacekru story. How will it read in s6?

I’ve been speculating that we’ll see some sort of slavery on the new planet, which will cause Echo to relive her past as a slave/child soldier. Which is WHY we need her backstory. Because it connects our mains to our aliens, and makes Echo start to make her OWN choices about what is important for HER, not just her people or her throne or her loyalty. And it will also have her addressing her connection to Bellamy, and questioning if her love for him is totally authentic, and how much of it is a product of her fixation on whoever her “king” is.

Echo’s story in season 6, and her backstory that we’ll see, does not seem to me to be related to B/E at all, except as how it relates to Echo’s own understanding of her SELF.

I think this will also make her confront what it means to be a good guy for HERSELF, not just doing what’s best for her people. Which she has not ever had to come up against before. Even with Bellamy in spacekru, because there was no outside conflict there.

Anyway, all this fits with JR’s statements about Echo’s story being about loyalty, family and belonging. And it fits with the possible main conflicts with Sanctum.

I’m not going to speak to the spoilers, esp since I didn’t see those clips with Echo, so y’all can consider for yourself if this fits with Echo’s story so far revealed in s6.

leonora “lo” flint is both flint and rowle, and there is duality in her bones

the truth is this: lo does not like bullies.

bullies are cowards at heart, and she does not lionise bravery, but she has always derided those who put others down for their own enjoyment — there is nothing superior in having to tear others down and claw your way to the top over their bodies

it’s for this reason that she’s never been notably pro or anti purists: she’s always been scornful towards those who were cruel and vindictive towards those based on their blood status, but she’s always been that to anyone with that sort of behaviour, and always called them out for the way they were doing things, not the why

she is not a purist, but the truth is complicated

case in point: she loves her family, and has a complicated relationship with them. purism is in their bones, runs through their family tree, and she grows up with it on all sides. it touches her particular unit less, but not extremely — eirianwen rowle and sabina flint are the most open-minded set in their families, but when they earn that title from being the only ones of the flints willing to take in the gryffindor, it’s a low bar. on every side, there is blood purity, and supremacy is the backdrop to lo’s life.

pregnancy tw // being the fucking extra purebloods they are, lo had to be both rowle and flint. blood is everything to these nutcases, and so wes’ father was the sperm donor and sabina carried the child. a younger lo got a certain satisfaction from knowing that, even if the other kids were brave enough to say something about her mothers, they couldn’t say anything about her blood, the currency that so many of them were taught to trade in. it’s not something that’s ever really affected her, except now, with her membership with the death eaters, being not only family but also blood has certainly helped her case // end tw

the thing with telling everyone off is that there is a certain ambiguity about it, a distance created between beliefs and perception, and it makes you a canvas, allowing for people to assume their own truths, their own expectations. there is a certain freedom in that.

she’s a private investigator, and that’s actually a lot of why she ends up as a double agent

some of it’s experience, sure — she’s picked up certain skills throughout her career, like how to move through crowds, how to listen without people noticing, how to shrug on and off personas and keep your selfhood tucked away — but some of it is the effect of the experience. she’s always had a knack for finding things, for seeing things, for thinking things through and using unorthodox methods, but she does not like bullies, and sometimes... well, in her job, you can see all ends of people, all the edges of humanity, and sometimes chase something for months on end without answers, and the truth is, it’s made her a bit jaded. tired, too.

jaded, on most people, looks like not believing anything can make a difference: with lo, it looks like believing in the worst in people, and, bizarrely, it’s what motivated her to help.

she looks at it like this: if people are as bad as she thinks, then the people fighting against the awful things need all the help they can get, because they’re already at a disadvantage. and maybe it’s a hopeless fight. maybe it’s something that lo shouldn’t bother with, because she knows her family, and to do so would absolutely be to risk her own life.

but lo has never liked bullies.

her relatives and names are, in theory, enough, but leonora flint does not take chances, and she also very actively, within their private familial circles, shifts more solidly towards her flint aunt and uncles, citing things like throwing in her lot with the favoured side, because marcus’ heir is going to be disinherited, and she says — why not decidedly make a stance now?

wes is an interesting figure. he is her cousin, closest in age to her on the rowle side, and she loves him, she does. he’s her half-brother technically, he’s her cousin in truth, he’s sharp and clever in ways she appreciates, cruel and dangerous in ways she doesn’t, and it does not matter if he has always been a constant in her life, because she knows him, and she knows if she slips up, if he gets suspicious, if he catches her... she’s dead, and she won’t even know it’s coming, because he’s clever enough to bide his time and play the long game, like a chess master setting up his board for his masterstroke play.

the truth is, there’s no winning. either she is caught, and she dies, likely at the hands of one of her many relatives (marcus or diana are likely to do it themselves... octavian or wes, however, might just plan it mercilessly, and get someone else to execute their will, and there is something worse in that), or she succeeds, she holds out until the war is over, until they’ve won, the order has won, and then she is alone: a double agent, not trusted by some of the order, and with no family left, because she has betrayed them, and the flints and rowles have their differences, but neither are forgiving.

she’s always been a bit sarcastic and acerbic to the surface, but she’s warm when you know her

the rowles are Welsh™ and they got terrible welsh names but thankfully they did not pass it on to their children (lo and wes got off a lot better than genie—iphigenia, honestly—or the branch that married into anothe rpureblood family with extremely cornish names), but to this day, lo prefers felinfoel if she’s ever at a pub, and ended up learning cymraeg amongst her other languages of study in her youth

has actually done some physical fight training since becoming a private investigator, but she doesn’t particularly publicise it (being able to throw a punch, however, is a useful skill)

Hi, I'm back again!!!!!!! What you've said about the pheromones makes sense. But it also makes me curious about what omegas do to help mitigate their pheromone slipping out? Do they have collars with scent blockers sewed inside of it? Is it promiscuous or inappropriate for an omega to ask a alpha to bite them so their pheromone will be more manageable? I got this ask while i was at work so im terribly sorry for the late reply!!! BUT you gave me a lot of things to consider so WOWZER HERE WE GO:

im so glad your brought up collaring bc that’s like my first thought and also bc i generally like collars a lot (if that haven’t been obvious). i have a thing about fashion being incorporated into the structured society and how what you wear and how you wear speaks more about you than anything (don’t get me started on bdsm ‘verse and how in there ppl wear their clothing a certain way to tell other about their sexual orientation/dynamic/relationship status etc) and i kinda WANT to say that omega wear collar commonly as an inhibitor but i think it’s only reserved mainly as a public mating symbol for omega like the way wedding rings are and/or protection. most omegas wear choker or some sort of neck brace protection around their neck so alpha can’t bite them and bond with them in any sort of way. collars are more serious thing omega wear when they’re fully bonded to to their mate.

so to inhibit the pheromone use, it’s by injection (which can either be quarterly or yearly depend on the doses but the higher the dose the bigger the side effects are), inhibition patch on the body (which are monthly, you wear it once a month and it should last you all of that month, this is extremely common bc of how convenience it is and less costly), and there are inhibition pill which is similar to heat suppression pills but suppression pill are use to delay/stop heat among omega but inhibition pill make it so their pheromones aren’t blasting all over the place and dull their scent by a lot.(alphas and other can smell that they’re omega but omega can’t use their pheromones to ‘cripple/abuse’ it over alphas :X). AND THEN there’s the basic use an alpha’s bite to suppressed an omega’s pheromone which is consider by many to be too archaic and traditional in this ‘progressive’ society when the omega is so v young :/ so it’s only when they’re older and they found a good partner and doesn’t want to rely on patches/injection/pills anymore and their partner will control their pheromones with the bites. izuku and katsuki participates in the last one as YOUNG AS THEY ARE bc they’re fucking wild that’s what lol. but nah really it’s just katsuki is stupid and kinda instinctual when he was younger (even when he was just a child, katsuki always knew izuku was his and CLAIMED HIM BEFORE ANYONE) and bit izuku’s neck and that ended started them on this path where there’s NO RETURN FOR EITHER OF THEM.

in the olden days before technology caught up with society, it is v v v common for alpha’s to bite young omega (this is usually someone in the family, a friend’s of the family, their future betrothed, etc someone the omega know somehow) to suppressed their pheromones. bc omega are in the super minority, there are always alphas around to do it and it’s usually older alphas bc younger alphas supposedly dont have the control for it bc ‘biting’ isn’t a bond per say just a shallow impression on the skin that trigger a half bond that make the omega think THEY’RE in a bond (only when the teeth draw blood and the alpha-omega share blood b/t them that they’re consider truly bondmate)sand therefore they dont need to release pheromones to lure in potential future mate so they these bites are temporary and must be apply every few months! also, it is meant to be platonic and no sexual/romantic elements to it until the omega are mated off to their proper alpha but uh still pretty sleezy bc it older/young power dynamic so abuse potential was SUPER HIGH. eventually this method died out for more convenience/easier application like patches and injection.

is it actually not promiscuous or anyway scandalous for a young omega to asks for a bite if they chose to go that way! just mainly side eye bc of how archaic the method is since there ARE MORE EASIER WAYS TO DO THIS. and omega can have bites from one alpha or many in their lifetime if they chose to and it isnt look down mainly bc society pressure them to find their mate as much as possible bc the sooner they are mated the less likely they will leak pheromones and once an omega is bonded to an alpha that alpha built a resistance to their pheromones and therefore can control the omega better bc an omega is just any other person w/o their pheromones which is their most potent threat :P (it even the playing field b/t the two dynamic pretty much; bonding is the great ‘equalizer’ they like to say). so it it encourage that omega finds mate as soon as they are able to bc that help mitigate the pheromone use HUGELY and omega can start producing kids as quickly as possible bc it’s all about the kids!! so alpha-omega matchmaking is a booming business lol.

but that doesn’t mean mating is taken lightly! mating is serious business bc betas and any betas coupling got their marriage but omega-alpha is all about mating and it has to do with scent compatibility. omega are disposed to be smelling good but their scent varies from alpha to alpha so if they smell good to you then you have a good match up and the most perfect scent to an alpha mean they have true compatibility. though that super rarely happens so most just settle for a good smelling alpha/omega with good breeding potential. for alpha, it is find that omega with high fertility and best smelling one (the stronger the scent the supposedly stronger the bloodline of quirk users to be) to carry that lineage so alpha would fight other alpha for the right to mate with an omega but it doesn’t mean an omega have no voice in this. actually in the past, an omega is bought/traded/and given away to ensure the best quirk users in the future but now these days it consider regressive for these modern times so omega are to consider their mating partners bc their children are their status symbol. the more powerful and accomplished your children are, the greater your omega status bc YOU AND YOU ALONE CARRIED THAT CHILD TO TERM AND LOOK WHAT YOU HAD HELPED PRODUCE. so omega look for alpha would great genes (smart, athletic, quirk power etc) and the best one will be their mate… it is VERY much like how female animals chose the male with the best genetic material to pass on to the children. so yea blood fight over omega is v v common among alpha (esp when the majority of the planet are quirk users) but omega have a voice in this and this is how they determine their future mate.
