Do you like tragedies, and even the best (or worst) of intentions leading to ruin? Are you interested in how Aaravos may manipulate Callum next season, or how his love for this loved ones may manifest even years later post canon? Then Snake Boi Callum Week 2.0 (the hiss strikes back) is the fandom event for you!
Last autumn the fandom had an event to celebrate and explore some of Callum's most interesting traits — his obsession with magic, his deep love and protectiveness over Ezran and Rayla, his sometimes icy and explosive temper, his fear of Aaravos controlling his destiny, and just about anything else that makes Callum, well, Callum.
As such and by popular demand, we're having another one. Just like last time, all forms of creation are welcome including works that explore darker or more intense material, provided they're rated and tagged accordingly.
Just like last time the usual components of Snake Boi Callum (i.e. Ezran and Rayla alone being his inner circle) are just suggestions (you want to add Soren or Sarai, or anyone else? Go for it!) as are the prompts for the week. Like before, they take inspiration from concepts / quotes from the show itself, common turns of phrase, and quotes from the novelizations.
Sunday May 12th: Prince (feel free to take insp from Machiavelli's work by the same name!) / Pieces
Monday May 13th: Snakes / Stars
Tuesday May 14th: High Mage / But Rayla Was In Trouble ( * Rayla specific prompt but if you wanna rework it, go for it)
Wednesday May 15th: As the Ocean Is Deep
Thursday May 16th: Goeth Before the Fall
Friday May 17th: King / You Mean Everything To Me (* Ezran specific prompts but can go any direction ofc)
Saturday May 18th: Darkness / Light
If you have any questions, don't hesitate to DM or send me an ask! Tags will be "Snake Boi Callum," "Snake Boi Callum Week," and "Snake Boi Callum week 2.0".

Purgatory - Dear Rayla
Tumblr media
Summary: Almost three years ago, assassins came for Harrow. Callum was cornered, at her mercy and then… she let him go.The elf. He never even knew her name. She might be long dead, but Callum was determined to do as Harrow suggested. To reject the narrative of strength and instead embrace the narrative of love. To make a better future for all, humans and elves alike. But when he and Ezran stumble upon something hidden in Viren’s secret chambers, Callum realises he might actually be able to make up for the mistakes of the past. To make a real change, right here, right now. To free them both from their haunted past.
Pairing: Rayla/Callum
Rating: Teen and Up Audiences
AO3 Link: Purgatory
Dear Rayla,
I’m not really sure this letter will get to you, but the associate Crow Lord actually came to me wondering why I had gone “so long” without sending something (is six days that long?!) and, well, it’s weird not writing to you so, who knows, maybe this letter will be waiting for you when you get home and be a nice little surprise.
I can’t wait to see you again and I know I’ve written that a million times already but each day that brings us seeing each other again closer and closer to actually happening only makes me more excited.

Ngl I was really worried about how they would handle Janai's role as queen, especially given that the sunforge hadn't been purified after the time skip. But the selfless patient approach to healing her community that she takes is something really special and beautiful. Not only is she trying to balance tradition and change, she also is willing to go down in history as a queen who didn't save her people if it means there is hope for the next generation to have the pure light of a new light (because let's be real, we all know that how she would be cast).
Her arc sends a message that the beginning of changing the world can happen in big flashy moments (the battle of the storm spire), but it take time, patience and commitment to create a better world. And it shows that sometime we have to step up and do what's hard and help our communities in the ways we can, big or small, regardless of the resistance we face. Because Janai never wanted to be queen but now that she is, she is going to do the best job she can and not step aside to let progress be undone. (Also it's so special to me that Amaya helps her come to that realization and solidify her commitment to helping her community change for the better.)
There are also so many parallels between her and ezran in this season, in their leadership and their embracing of the duality of pain in transformation and joy in creating a better future. The whole conflict of dragons in Katolis mirrors the situation with humans in the sunfire camp (especially with a part of the reason these groups are in proximity is purely selfish on the part of the leaders). Also Janai's scene where she shows her brother the sun seed in hopes of showing him her vision of the future is very reminiscent of Ezran's impassioned but naïve speeches about dragons and changing the world through love. Because they are both right, but they aren't seeing or hearing it the way others are, so they don't realize how inexperienced and naïve they sound.
Anyways, I'm really sad we didn't get to see Amaya and Janai as they were getting to know each other and rebuild the world together but I am really impressed with how much grace the managed Janai's arc with.

4. A and B finally move in together
Pretty pls
The plans for reclaiming Lux Aurea were a failure. Janai couldn't bring her people back to their glory, but she promised to rebuild. She'd sent Amaya back to Katolis for supplies, builders, iron workers, and visionaries to put the pieces together.
King Ezran was nothing if not generous, sending his aunt back with more than requested. Her people hated accepting more help from the humans, but the promise of a true home made them swallow their pride.
They could begin to reclaim their livelihood, and maybe within a year they could have the materials and tools to start construction. Soon after, people could go to a place that would be a permeant home. One where they would not have to rely on humans for survival.
Of course that meant that their guests could return to their own home, as one of Amaya's colonel's reminded them at a meeting. Janai and Amaya's night had a melancholy tone to it. It got worse when the humans started making plans to return home after the elves got settled, even as the general reminded them that they still had a good twenty months before they could leave Xadia for good.
It was hard for Janai to think about, because then she had to face the fact that she would be in that big royal bed, alone. The woman she'd come to love would return to Katolis and then what? Would they stay together through letters and supply deliveries until they drifted apart?
The distant, but inventible separation weighed on her, and she believed it weighed on Amaya as well, judging by dramatic increase of nights clinging to each other. Worse, every step she made to better her people's living situation was a pushing Amaya that much closer to Katolis.
One morning, as Amaya got dressed to leave before the crack of dawn, Janai grabbed her hand from the bed and pulled her back in. The human laughed and wrestled to get back up. Janai grabbed her hand more gently this time,
"Stay." She ordered softly. Amaya's playful look faded into a gentle one, and she let herself be guided back to bed. Janai held her, losing all track of time until the servants surprised them by delivering breakfast right on schedule.
Of course word got out, then the challenges came. Her people tried to run Amaya off by duels to first blood. They'd talked about it, decided that these people couldn't tell them what to do, and accepted the challenges on the condition that after six days, there would be no more argument.
There wasn't. Whether it was because her people were honoring the deal or they just had a newfound respect and/or fear of Amaya, she didn't know; or care. She and Amaya were finally officially courting, and they could sleep till dawn in the same bed without worry.
Weeks passed plans for a hospital crossed her desk. She had a meeting with the architects, the builders, physicians, and the human general before signing off on them.
"One step closer to begin on Nova Aurora. Katolis for you." Janai said with false joy when they were alone. Amaya didn't say anything, but pulled her into a tight hug. The human seemed distracted and distant after that.
Three weeks later, Amaya got an official letter from Katolis. It was not addressed to her, so she left it alone and went about her day. That night, Amaya was sleeping in her bed...with all of her pillows. Janai was lovingly-cursing humans and their inherent need to take what didn't belong to them when she noticed something off. The normally immaculate tent had something out of place. A single letter had been left open on the table.
Assuming it was something important for, Janai huffed and picked it up, only to read Amaya's discharge notice. She shouldn't read the whole thing without permission, but she couldn't help it. Apparently, this was Amaya's last deployment, then she was to be honorably discharged and retired.
She decided to wait till morning to speak with her lover about this, just to lose her patience and wake Amaya up. The human wasn't surprised to be roused, and left it for her to find. She'd apparently thought long and hard and asked the king for the release.
"Why?" It was all Janai could think off.
-Because I have someone worth staying here for.-
Janai helped Amaya move her things into her -their- tent the next day.

Summary: After returning from Umber Tor, Callum and Rayla have a much-needed conversation.
Word count: 3153
Rating: General
~~~
The sun hung low in the sky as Zubeia carried them back to the Storm Spire. It was a far quieter trip than Rayla expected, the archdragon falling silent once filled in on the events that unfolded beneath Umber Tor. The great queen was afraid, Rayla realized, and so was she. Her worst nightmare had come to life. Viren was alive, poised to let loose the greatest evil in existence upon a defenseless world. But somehow, that didn’t matter as much as the three golden coins clutched in her fist.
Or the fact that Callum was at least sitting next to her now.
It was weird to be back. Back sleeping in the Dragonguard quarters her parents called home for years. Back in the place Callum first declared his undying love for her. It was so hard not to think about the last time she was here. Callum holding her, kissing her, whispering the sweetest promises against her ear, the very same day he'd swooped down from the heavens and rescued her from certain death, like the hero of some great love ballad she would've rolled her eyes at as a wee one. How full of hope and promise and miracles everything had seemed, even if just for that moment.
Now it all seemed a lifetime ago.
Soren wanted to start making a plan right away (said he’d been in pajamas long enough), but Zubeia insisted they all rest. Rayla felt like a fool hoping Callum would choose to sleep near her, even more so when he dumped his things by the bed Ezran was already asleep in, Zym cuddled atop him like an oversized dog. She was stupid, selfish even, to think he'd do otherwise.
She settled down in the small alcove her parents once shared, something she only knew because of the small picture of herself she’d found, tucked beneath the pillow, after the battle two years before. The memory stung at her eyes as she nestled under the sheets. They were dusty enough, but it was good to be in an actual bed again. Stella snuggled under her arm and blinked curiously at her as she gently rolled the coins from their pouch onto the bed beside her, her fingers carefully tracing the anguished faces etched in the metal. Mum. Dad. Runaan. Her stomach turned each time she saw them, reliving the terror of their final moments—her father's steely determination, her mother's desperate wail, Runaan's terrified scream.
"Can ya hear me?" she asked quietly, not sure if she even wanted to know the answer.
"Rayla?"
She scrambled upright, nearly launching poor Stella onto the floor. The cuddlemonkey huffed in surprise and skittered beneath the bed. "Callum! I thought ya'd be sleepin' already."
"I sent a crow back to Katolis," he rubbed the back of his neck. “Well, it wasn't a crow, it was a—never mind. I, uh, asked them to send me that spellbook. The one that I read about the... coin spell in."
"Oh," Rayla hugged her knees to her chest. She’d briefly shown him the coins during the flight back to the Spire, struggling to explain what she couldn’t understand herself. Once the shock of the revelation passed, Callum had recalled skimming over such a spell in one of Viren’s old tomes, long since banished to a storage chamber when found to contain only dark magic. “Thank you.”
He nodded, taking a step closer to the bed. His voice was soft, a familiar tone he hadn’t used since they reunited. "May I... see them?"
"Yeh..." Rayla gently gathered her family, her breath hitching slightly when Callum sat at the foot of the bed. She dropped her head so he wouldn’t see the flush crossing her cheeks as she placed the coins beside him.
"Hmm," the mage’s brow furrowed as he examined the wretched objects, carefully turning them in his hands before returning them to Rayla. He stole a glance at her, if only for a second or two, opening his mouth to speak but pausing for a moment. "I... I can't imagine what you're feeling."
Rayla bit her lip, not wanting to cry in front of him. "I just... I just have so many questions." She cradled the coins against her heart. "Are they... awake, I guess? Are they feelin' things? Do they know that I found them?" The tears slipped away from her. "Are they scared or... or hurtin'?" She looked up and met Callum's gaze, the gentleness in his eyes just making her want to cry harder. "And—and if we get them out, will I even have them back? Or will they just be... dead... but—but for real this time?" She could feel herself losing control, sobs escaping her, and she didn’t even know why… grief or fear or anger or relief or some messy mix of all of them. "I—I just want them back… they're right here in mah hands, and yet I—I don't even know if they're… dead or alive or somethin’ worse! Callum, I just want them back!”
She pressed her fist to her mouth to stifle the sobs that spilled out anyway, ashamed of her outburst, grasping the bed to keep herself from falling flat on her face. How she wanted him to hold her, the thought of his warm arms around her neck offering the only tether to sanity she could think of.
Then Callum placed his hand on hers, and it was as if he’d thrown her a lifeline. Panting gave way to deep breaths as she composed herself, wiping her nose in the crook of her arm as inconspicuously as she was able. “I—I’m sorry, I, uh… I’m sorry….”
“It’s fine,” Callum slowly took his hand back. “I get it.” He paused again, and Rayla could see the thoughts flickering through his eyes. “We’ll get them out.”
Something that felt like hope rose in her chest. “We?”
He looked at her, and Rayla immediately regretted speaking. For a moment, she thought he might leave, shut her down again, but instead he just… sat, stared, finally turning his attention back to the same blank spot on the wall he’d been fixing his eyes to earlier.
“Yeah. I guess.”
Another lull of silence, and Rayla decided to try her luck again. “Are ya—are ya… ready tae talk now?”
He snorted. But he didn’t leave. “Fine.”
Rayla drew a shaky breath. “Earlier, ya said… ya said ya were glad I came back….”
Callum scoffed, looking over at her, the softness in his eyes now replaced by anger. “Of course I’m glad!” He snapped, and Rayla knew the dam had burst. “What, you think I wanted to never know what happened to you? To just carry on with my life as if you didn’t just evaporate into thin air? You think I wouldn’t be glad to know you didn’t die a horrible death?”
“N—no, but… when I came back, you didn’t seem… I don’t know—”
“Didn’t seem what? Thrilled that you just randomly decided to pop up in my study in the dead of night acting like nothing even happened? Rayla, I spent two years with no idea what happened to you! I kept imagining all these horrible things, that you’d been ripped apart by a banther or drowned in a river or murdered by some elf-hating humans or kidnapped by a dark mage keeping you chained up for spare parts!” Callum was on his feet now, pacing, tears streaming down his face. “I dreamed about it every night!”
“Callum—”
“And you never sent word! You never thought to let me know that you weren’t dead! Why!? What is wrong with you, Rayla!?”
“I—I didn’t want—”
“Didn’t want what? For me to figure out where you were? What, did you think I was going to come after you with an army and drag you back to Katolis?”
“Of course not! I didn’t want ya comin’ after me! I wanted ya safe!”
“Yeah, so you kept saying! Why do you even care?”
“What—what kind’a question is that!?” Rayla demanded, jumping up to face Callum. “I love you, Callum! I love ya more than anythin’!”
“Rayla, you abandoned me!” he nearly screamed. “You just left me!!! You broke my heart!!!”
Callum grasped the back of his head, covering his mouth as he sobbed. “You broke my heart… I—I’d never felt so alone in all my life…. I loved you so much and you just… left me….” He looked up at her again, so much misery in his beautiful eyes that Rayla nearly fell to her knees. “And then you just… show back up, for—for no reason. And you never even said you were sorry.”
“Callum…”
“You don’t understand. I—I cried for weeks. I couldn’t eat. I couldn’t sleep. I got so sick a month into it Opeli had two different doctors come look at me.” He buried his face in his hands. “I felt like I was walking around with a knife in my chest. I wanted you back so much, I—I would’ve done anything if it meant you’d come home.” Slowly, he sank back onto the bed. “My 16th birthday… I spent the entire day in bed pretending to be sick. And this year, I—I figured I’d just ignore it, but then Ez threw me this really nice surprise party, and I spent the whole time crying on the balcony and looking at the moon. Because all I could think of was you.” Finally, he lifted his bloodshot eyes to meet hers, and instantly his gaze held her captive. “You… you said you loved me. And then you went and…. left me. You….” his next words were little more than a whisper. “You destroyed me.”
“Callum….” Rayla’s shoulders heaved, a wave of nausea sweeping over her. “Callum, I never meant tae… I—I knew it would hurt but—but I never thought ya’d…. that I…. oh Callum I’m sorry…. I didn’t… I didn’t mean tae….”
“Rayla…. why?”
“Oh Callum,” she howled, the shame nearly crushing her. “Because ya were all I had! There was nothin’ left I loved, and I knew, I knew he was still alive and I dreamt it—I dreamt he’d take ya like he took them! I just couldn’t lose ya!”
“Rayla…” his voice was steady even as his jaw shuddered. “You did lose me.”
Callum must’ve cast some spell, Rayla thought, that drove all the air from the room. It was the only explanation for why she merely choked as she fought to breathe in, why no amount of gasping could bring any relief to her burning lungs or lift the crushing weight from the center of her chest. So it was true. Callum. The boy who’d held her as if she were the most precious gem in existence, who’d showered her with all the love in his tender heart in a way she’d never experienced. Who she’d dreamed of every night for two years, who her heart had longed to return to, aching for his love only to receive none of it. She’d thrown it all away. Her beloved Callum. Her love, her moon, her hero. He was lost to her.
She alone was to blame.
It was no less than she deserved.
“I…. I…. I—I understand,” Rayla whispered hoarsely, shivering despite the hot tears soaking her neck. She’d never felt so small in all her life. “I just…. I need’ya tae know, Callum, that I love ya. I’ll love ya forever. I know I failed ya, and I know why ya don’t feel the same way—”
“Rayla.”
He laughed bitterly and shot her a stare so sharp and biting that she longed to shrivel up and join Stella under the bed.
“You think I don’t love you?”
And somehow, it was those words that broke her.
Rayla staggered forward and crumpled down beside him, knowing if she didn’t sit down she well may faint. All her thoughts swirled together in a hazy soup. “Huh?”
Callum laughed again, though now more pained than angry. Fresh tears welled in his already swollen eyes. “You really think I don’t still love you?”
“I–I didn’t–I mean… but Callum, ya… ya do?”
“Rayla…” once again his voice broke. “Of course I do…”
She wasn’t sure who moved first, but suddenly they were wrapped in each other’s arms, weeping until their jaws were sore and their throats raw. When Callum at last spoke, it seemed to Rayla that hours had passed, and yet no time at all. “I–I tried so hard…” he whispered raggedly. “I tried to stop loving you. To hate you or forget you or whatever it took to make the hurting stop. But no matter how much I wanted to, I—I never could. I just never could. And I was so angry… I–I’m still so angry, but I… I never stopped loving you. I still do. I always will.”
“Callum…” Rayla turned her face from his chest, leaning back to look him in the eye. “I’m so sorry, Callum. I didn’t mean… oh I never meant tae hurt ya like this. I couldn’t bear the thought of a world without ya in it. I couldn’t bear it if I lost ya….” She let her eyes fall. “But I just got so tired. Runnin’ around, findin’ nothin’ at all despite searchin’ with everythin’ I had. I got sick of it, and I started worryin’ that I’d spend the rest of mah life out there just lookin’ for somethin’ I was never gonna find, and–and I knew it was selfish but I just couldn’t take it any longer. I had to see ya again. And I thought… it was stupid, but I thought maybe if I acted like everythin’ was still the same, then maybe it would be. That we could just… pick up where we left off…” She sighed and pinched between her eyes. “But ya were right. I did lose ya. I lost what we had. I ruined it…”
“Yeah…” Callum agreed. “You did.”
A tense, still moment passed, the only sound that of their quiet sniffling. Guilt darkened Rayla’s cheeks as she hid her face.
“But…” Callum grabbed her hand before she could completely turn away, his thumb running softly over her knuckles. “Rayla, I… I still want you to be with me. I spent so long thinking that I’d never see you again that I guess a part of me thought I’d accepted you were gone, so when you came back I just… didn’t know how to feel. I was so happy you were safe but so…. so angry at you. But then today, when–when I thought you were dead…” he squeezed his eyes shut, struggling not to relive the horrible moment. “I just couldn’t stand it. Losing you again, forever…if you were really gone, I think it would’ve killed me. Rayla, I want things to be like they were with us. I don’t want to live without you. I want you back. I really do. But you need to…” His voice trailed off, and Rayla clasped his hand in return.
“What do I need tae do?” she asked, hoping he wouldn’t repeat his ridiculous request to kill him.
“Stay.”
With his hand, Callum closed the inches, the miles, between them, resting it on top of hers. “I’m angry at you, Rayla. I think I will be for a long time. I don’t understand why you thought you had to leave, but…” he exhaled and gently folded her hand into his fist. “I–I believe you when you say that you… that you did it because you love me, even if I don’t get it. But Rayla, listen to me.” His voice was quiet, yet resolute. “Never, ever do this to me again. You say you can’t bear to lose me, but I can’t bear to lose you either. Not again. Do not make me lose you again. In the tunnels, you told me no one gets to make my choices for me. And that includes you. You don’t get to decide I’m safest without you. I choose to be with you, no matter the risks. It’s my choice. Don’t take it away from me.”
Rayla swallowed the lump welling in her throat and nodded. “I won’t, Callum. I won’t leave ya, not again. I–I promise. I swear it.”
“You hurt me. More than I ever thought possible. It still hurts. But I think… I know that’s why it hurts,” Callum smiled, small and soft, but it was still that same smile that made her all dizzy and fluttery. “Because I love you. I love you, Rayla.”
“Oh Callum,” Rayla’s heart soared. “I love you, too. So, so much.”
Callum didn’t leave, keeping his big hand folded around hers, tenderly stroking her fingers. How Rayla longed for him to hold her, to kiss her, but she thrilled at his touch nonetheless. Eventually, his eyes drooped shut, and soon after she could hear his adorable little snores. She was grateful for the brave little wisps of moonlight that found their way into the chambers, letting her see him just a little while longer before she too gave in to her exhaustion. Callum had always been so cute when he was sleeping, his face smooshed against the blankets and his mouth twitching into little smiles and frowns as he dreamed. Even now, with his once fluffy hair cropped to the side and boyish cheeks sharpened by a masculine jaw, he was still the same sweet boy who’d stolen her heart.
The only man she would ever love.
A soft plunk drew Rayla’s attention. “Hey, Stella,” she tickled under her little friend’s chin with a soft giggle. The cuddlemonkey licked her mama’s nose before curiously sniffing at her hand, still intertwined with Callum’s. “Shhh, mah wee one, don’t wake him.”
With a light chitter, Stella leapt over Rayla and onto the pillow, her eyes wide and shiny as she gathered the small leather pouch resting on it into her greedy little paws.
“Stella, no, put that down, sweetie!” Rayla scolded nervously, not wanting to pull her hand from Callum’s but also worried her pet may send the precious coins through a portal to join the rest of her sparkly treasures. To her relief, Stella merely hopped back, stashing the pouch against Rayla’s chest before nestling into her side, tail tucked beneath her chin as she trilled contentedly.
With her free hand, Rayla pressed the coins to her heart, close enough that her parents would feel its beating, should such a thing be possible. A tear slipped down her cheek, as if she hadn’t already wept enough.
Her whole world, resting here beside here, held tenderly against her. For so long now, she hadn’t dared, but now, even if just for tonight, Rayla let herself hope.
Hello!! This is kind of a stupid question but do you understand who the Moonshadow assassins kill and why? At first I assumed it was just human rulers/generals from all kingdoms but when Viren was talking about how they were a threat in season 2 the other rulers didn’t seem to think it was as big of an emergency and I was a little confused. I hope you have a great day!!
I actually love questions like this! There's some nuance in the answer, and also some uncertainty, but I'll share my take for ya:
The Moonshadow assassins don't seem to pick their own targets, they accept assignments from the Dragon Throne. The full nature of that relationship hasn't been explained in any detail, so it's a tricky, complicated area of lore for the moment.
Tumblr media
Basically, we don't have any information on how the Dragon Throne chooses the targets it passes on to the Moonshadow assassins for taking, aside from the one that happened just before the show's plot began, with Zubeia sending Runaan and his team to kill Harrow and Ezran. All we know is that these targets are supposed to be so threatening to Xadia that the world would be better off if they were no longer in it.
It's not impossible to imagine Avizandum telling his assassins to take out someone who didn't actually deserve it. It's relatively easy actually, knowing how he liked to stomp on humans, and how long he lived. It's probably happened. The only question is: how often? (angst)
I would guess - because again, we don't really know this for sure yet - that Avizandum generally chose actual threats, or people who could easily become threats in a war. But when you're a long-lived dragon, maybe you see different patterns in the mortal lives and cultures of humans. And Runaan and all the assassins before him wouldn't live long enough to recognize those patterns themselves, so they probably had to accept their targets out of either trust or duty. (more angst)
Some of them would definitely be military type targets: generals; shining young hero types with a chip on their shoulder; stealthy human assassins; dark mages if they dared risk it; and etc.
But a dragon might see strange harmless patterns beginning to form and decide to nip them in the bud before they led to anything truly threatening: a craftsman who just had a design breakthrough with a prototype ballista; a baker who just invented hardtack that could keep an army on the move for weeks; an armorer who just made a much safer design; a clever miner who found a rare and valuable source of iron.
People like that aren't dangerous on their own. But the knowledge they might share among the humans during a long drawn-out war with Xadia could be devastating in a decade or five. A dragon who already doesn't like humans would probably have no trouble sending his best assassin to snipe unsuspecting ordinary people like that.
We're still not sure if assassins must take an assignment, or if it's just dishonorable or something not to take it. But Runaan's a pretty regimented guy, and he's not fond of humans either. Between his trust issues and his protective instincts, I don't think he'd look too hard at his assignments these days even if he had a choice - he'd believe he was doing the right thing for his people, and then he'd stop thinking and go shoot someone.
I think sometimes Runaan definitely was doing the right thing by killing someone. But it's impossible to say which missions were and which weren't the right thing. Life is way too complicated for clear-cut answers like that.
Tumblr media
Okay, onward!
The other part of this answer is about the Pentarchy itself. I think their hesitance to commit right away, and the reason Aanya got so much time to smack Viren with her sass, happened partly because Viren lives in a border realm like she does, and the other three rulers have a nice safe buffer between them and the brunt of the war efforts.
Basically, Del Bar, Neolandia, and Evenere don't have any skin in the border game.
They don't have big standing armies, and the only threats they deal with are small incursions - either assassins from other human realms or occasionally Moonshadow assassins.
Which is the topic at hand! But when Viren tries to convince Harrow to do the switching spell in S1, he claims that Moonshadow elves are an unstoppable force. Almost a force of nature, kind of vibe. If they come for you, you're just gonna die about it. Harrow even agrees with him! It's common knowledge how deadly the Moonshadow assassins are. And that's what happened despite all of Viren's plans - he still lost his king because Moonshadow assassins are scary good at their job.
So it's plausible that the other rulers didn't see any point in committing resources to an unsolvable issue - if Moonshadow assassins were coming for them, then they'd die. Why risk anyone else? Anyone in the assassins' way would die too. (Which they did in Katolis)
Another option is that Viren has been wrong before, and the other royals did commit resources to deal with the threat he claimed was coming, only to have time and money and forces wasted. If Viren had brought them costly mistakes, they could've been hedging their bets this time around.
There's a funnier possibility though: maybe they just didn't like Viren. People in power sometimes say polite things to an underling or a petitioner, and then have no intention of ever following through with it. They might've all been blowing smoke here, telling Viren "oh yeah sure if we're all in, let's totally do war, bro" and absolutely never meaning it even a little bit because they simply did not like the messenger.
Which is mean. But: royals.
tldr:
there's a few things affecting the Pentarchy scene all at once. We don't know all the factors involved yet, and the Pentarchy probably doesn't either. But at the end of the day the Pentarchy chose to hesitate, and that left Viren on his own.
My completely random, almost baseless Dragon Prince headcanons no one asked for✨
-Aaravos’s favorite song is Bad Romance he fucking loves that song. He has really good music taste in general.
-Claudia says “cunfuzzle” instead of confuse. She’s tapping her nose at me right now.
-Viren is a closeted bisexual and he didn’t grow up in a very excepting environment
-Rayla sucks at Mario Kart
-Aaravos is gay and touch-starved (these ones, many of us can agree on)
-He also enjoys cross-dressing from time to time
-Callum is neurodivergent af and wears that one shirt that says AD/HD instead of AC/DC. Rayla gave it to him and he loves it.
-Soren develops an adoration for dragons (“especially the big strong muscly ones!”-Soren)
-Ezran can also communicate with infants and other nonvocal creatures to some degree.
-Homophobia/transphobia is very rare in Xadia.
-Most dragons can talk but they choose not to. They prefer body language.
-Corvus loves Earthblood culture. Soren took him to an Earthblood village (that DIDN’T have hostile drakeriders) for his birthday. Oooo if someone writes a fanfic about that send it to me.
Why You Shouldn't Be Worried About Runaan, Lain and Tiadrin's Return
Over the last few weeks I have seen many people being excited and happy for the return of Runaan, Lain and Tiadrin in the next season or 2. However I have also seen some people being very worried, believing that they cannot truly return and that freeing the 3 of them will only result in them being allowed to pass on into the afterlife.
So if you are one of those people allow me to reassure and convince you that this is will not happen and that everything is pointing towards a happy and permanent reunion.
Reason 1: Runaan's bound arm
Back in season 1 we saw the assassins bind themselves with magical ribbons that will not unbind until a target has been killed. Runaan and Rayla were the only survivors of this squad and see them both dealing with the tightening of the 2nd still bound ribbon. And while Rayla managed to get hers removed by Zym, Runaan still has his attached and even goes into the coin with his arm still bound.
Tumblr media
This is important as the writers and animators would not have kept him bound if this was not going to be an important story point later.
And yes we did see the other assassins still bound in the afterlife and that they lost their final bindings after they saw Rayla has lost hers and believed that Ezran was dead. However the situation with Runaan is going to be very different because he isn't dead and because it may tie to another important plot point for Runaan.
2) Runaan's Future
In the Bloodmoon Huntress we get some important insight into Runaan's feelings towards his choice to become an assassin.
Tumblr media
He has doubts about his decision to take on this role and it's duties and these will definitely be brought back into the story when he does return. This will also tie back into my first point about Runaan's binding as he could potentially lose his arm as there may no longed be any loophole that can save him as Zym is possibly too big to take it off safely.
This loss of a limb will definitely make Runaan question his future and what he wants to do now he has been freed.
And even if he does manage to keep his arm his role as an assassin may no longer be needed for this peaceful and unified Xadia that many are trying to achieve. These doubts and guilt that he canonically feels were not brought up on a whim and will be a major part of his arc once he has been freed.
3) Why aren't they dead yet?
It would have been very easy to to kill these 3. Lain and Tiadrin were frozen in ice and Runaan was chained to a dungeon wall. All were at Viren's mercy and he could have killed them easily but he didn't. They are still here, alive with canon evidence to back this up
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Did Runaan's flower sink? Yes but pay attention to what Rayla said. It's still floating and the crystal is still glowing which means he still alive.
Another thing to consider is this line from Claudia in the season 4 finale.
Tumblr media
If Runaan, Lain and Tiadrin were indeed just spirits and therefore dead in these coins then the lava should not be able to hurt them in the way that Claudia describes. Her theorising about some kind of extreme pain that the 3 of them could potentially endure could only truly happen if they still were alive. Lava couldn't hurt them if they were just spirits, it just wouldn't.
4) Rayla's reaction
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Rayla is relieved, hopeful and overjoyed to have a chance to save and reunite. They aren't going to take that opportunity away from her and Ethari by sending them on a quest that will ultimately only end up in them saying goodbye to their spirits as their family leaves for the afterlife.
This would not only devastate fans but would 100% break the both of them in a way that they may never be able to recover. This storyline would also go against all the messages of love and hope that the show shares and champions.
5) Callum and Ezran
Runaan killed Harrow or at the very least Pip in Harrow's body. Callum and Ezran are now orphans and have spent the last 2 years trying to create peace betwen the 2 halves of Xadia.
Runaan returning and the quest to free him and Rayla's parents will definitely bring up some very complicated feelings for the pair of them, especially Callum who's feelings towards Runaan have already been introduced.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Callum has understandably, very complicated thoughts and feelings towards Runaan they would not have been brought up twice in the last year or so if they weren't going to be directly addressed and resolved. And you cannot achieve this with Runaan being a spirit, you need him alive and physically present in order to address this. And they will address it, because the pain is still there and because if they don't it will just fester and will affect the relationships that Rayla has with both Runaan and Callum. There is no way that Callum and Ezran can heal and move on and there is no way that Rayla and Callum will truly be able to be together if it isn't.
6) The Bloodmoon Huntress
Towards the end of the Bloodmoon Huntress we get this line from her:
"Be warned. Cross my path again and you'll see the full extent of what I can do."
"This I vow on Xadia herself." (Bloodmoon Huntress page 116)
We also get these line a few pages later about her return in the future.
Runaan: She will enchant another altar, I'm sure. But it will take her time and effort. Yet another thing to slow her down from returning to full power. (Bloodmoon Huntress page 119)
At this point in the story they have weakened her by injuring her, denying her the blood she craves and by destroying the altar that she uses for her Bloodmoon rituals.
She is also a very powerful and dangerous elf with a personal connection and feud with 3 important characters in Xadia, one of which is 1 of the show's main characters. There is a good chance that she will show up again in the show so that her feud with the Moon family can be resolved and that she, perhaps the second most dangerous and powerful elf in Xadia can be stopped once and for all.
And there you have it, all the hints and clues that have been established that point towards a happy and permanent Moon family reunion. I hope that this has reassured and convinced anyone that is worried about their fates that there is nothing to be worried about. They're coming back just wait and see.
116.
For @mandaloriandragontrainer (and @lawchan89 —I read your tags). I know y'all want it. See 111, 114, and 115 for more.
They're going through the mail one morning when the Crow Master picks a package from the pile and frowns. It's odd because packages don't usually arrive like this—they're brought by courier, even if this one in particular is small enough to be carried by a crow. It's cylindrical, about the length of his hand, the parchment around it crinkled and stained in something rust-coloured. The Crow Master frowns and unwraps it.
The silence is immediate. The High Cleric claps a hand over her mouth. Captain Soren pales. King Ezran's eyes widen and flit immediately to his brother, and the High Mage—
High Mage Callum stares at the horn in the Crow Master's hand. The jagged edge still has blood in its core, deep brown, maybe only a few days old, and the letter... the Crow Master fights the bile rising in his throat to read it: "See you in Elarion. Maybe you'll find the rest of this too. You should hurry. We're only just getting started. Don't forget the cube! Love Claudia."
"Leave us," says King Ezran quickly. "Soren."
The Captain nods and takes the letter and the horn from the Crow Master, and the Crow Master skitters away without argument. The throne room doors close behind him, but it does little to muffle the following argument, and it's an argument indeed. The Crow Master isn't trying to listen, but it's hard not to. High Mage Callum is furious and his voice rumbles through the oak:
"I'm done waiting around here."
"Callum, you can't just—"
"Can't I? Rayla is out there! Claudia did that to her and you think I wouldn't—"
"Your Highness, I understand you're angry, but that won't help her—"
"STAYING HERE WON'T HELP HER EITHER!"
"Callum—"
"SHE'S OUT THERE, HURT AND ALONE, AND YOUR INSANE SISTER WANTS TO HURT HER MORE AND YOU THINK I'M GOING TO STAY—"
"No one's stopping you, Callum! We all want her home, we all want her safe, but you're not thinking clearly!"
"I'M NOT THINKING CLEARLY?"
"What if it's a trap? What if Rayla's not even there? What if she's already..."
King Ezran doesn't finish. There's a pause. The Crow Master's blood pulses in his ears before High Mage Callum speaks again.
"She's not dead," says the High Mage. "Claudia says she wants the cube. She can have it."
"Callum."
"What other choice do I have?"
There are footsteps on the flagstones, and the Crow Master jumps, but not fast enough to pretend he wasn't there. "H-High Mage," he stammers. "I—"
High Mage Callum bristles. "Send one back," he orders shortly. "Address it to Rayla. Tell her to wait for me. I'm coming."
28 + 14 for rayllum? 🥺
Send me a number with a ship and i’ll write it (accepted ships are tdp canon ships + rarepairs (claudiez, sorpeli, corvus/terry, sorvus)
Rayla doesn't mean to, really.
They're setting out the dishes for a fancy family dinner, special plates from their mom, but her wrist has never been the same and she hasn't been looking after it lately, too consumed with the prison and what they're going to do and—
Her wrist spasms from pain. The plate slips from her fingers. Shatters on the floor.
Her eyes sting. An apology burns in her throat. "Oh Garlaath, I'm so sorry—I didn't mean to—" She clamps her mouth shut—excuses—as Callum and Ezran pause in where they were successfully setting the table and come to look at the plate she ruined. She stoops down, scooping up the pieces. "I'll—"
"Whoa, hey," Callum cautions, kneeling beside her and prying her hands away. More pieces slip through her fingers. "Careful," he murmurs, not the slightest hint of anger in his voice. "You'll cut yourself that way. We should put on gloves, first."
"I can go get some," Ezran chirps just a tad too cheerfully, and she can tell the brothers are exchanging a look over her downturned head.
"That would be great, Ez." Callum tugs her to her feet by the hands, away from the mess. "Thanks."
The young king dashes out, leaving them alone, her pitiful sniffle horribly loud in the grandiose hall.
"I'm sorry I broke the plate," she repeats. "I know it was your mom's."
"Yeah well, the whole point of them was mending broken things." He turns her palms carefully over in his, inspecting them, fingers brushing over hers. "You're sure you didn't cut yourself? There were lots of tiny sharp pieces."
"I'm fine. Really."
He still takes a few seconds to look over her hands though, checking and gently caressing every finger. Her eyes dry but the lump in her throat persists, and well—she's never been able to fool him when it matters, and when he doesn't want to be, an all too knowing look on his face when he catches her eyes.
Callum squeezes her hands. "No one's mad at you," he says. "It was an honest mistake."
"I messed up, though, I should've known—"
He takes her by the shoulders and she looks at him, knowing her eyes are still wide and bright and tearful. "Rayla, it's okay to mess up. It's okay."
"But—" the Silvergrove sits on the tip of her tongue. She swallows it back. She takes a deep breath. The truth of what he's saying goes against every fibre in her being, and sounds too good to be true—but Callum has always been like that, and then went on to keep being true. "Really?" she croaks.
"Really." He guides her into the chair next to his own with a sweet smile, and kisses her forehead. "Besides: now Ez and I can show you how sealing the pieces with gold works. Putting it back together again. It's fun."
The plate would never be the same, but it could still be beautiful, and loved, and whole.
Rayla picks up one of the still-sealed-yet-broken ones, the golden filled cracks glittering up at her.
Callum fits his fingers into her other hand—sealing up those empty spaces as he squeezes, steady and sure. "Rayla. I still love you. Okay?"
She breathes, and trusts, as best she can. She squeezes back. "I know," she says. "I love you too."
The portrait dominated the room, still set on an easel until it could be framed and hung. It would no doubt be copied hundreds of times, into miniatures and engravings, to immortalize the royal family in the hearts of Katolis. For now, it mostly just made moving around the space awkward—the paint on it was barely dry, and it still smelled slightly of turpentine.
"You look so happy together," Lissa said. The artist had captured the ease with which Sarai stood beside King Harrow, the way they turned toward each other even as they looked in the same direction. She smiled, correcting herself. "You are so happy together."
Sarai laughed. "I don't know—I think we look a little stiff. Harrow hates standing still for these, and it shows. And I don't think she got my nose right." She scrunched up her nose, as if comparing it unfavorably with the one in the portrait.
Lissa looked at her. "How were you able to—how did you find it in you to move on, after Callum's father?"
She suddenly remembered she was speaking to the queen and flushed, looking away. Sarai had a way of putting her at ease—King Harrow would always be King Harrow, but Queen Sarai frequently slipped into being just Sarai. "That was too bold, forgive me. You don't have to answer."
"No, it's fine," Sarai protested. She hesitated for a moment, but the pause was thoughtful, rather than uncomfortable. "I loved him completely. I still do. I was a wreck, when he passed—I certainly wasn't setting out to find a new partner, after."
She studied the portrait, her eyes on Callum's small, serious face. "But I knew I wanted Callum to have a second parent, if anything ever happened to me. I knew I wanted more children. I suppose I just... left myself open to love."
Her face softened. "And love found me. It has a way of doing that."
Lissa remembered the dizzying rush of falling for a man with quicksilver eyes and magic sparking in his beckoning hand—how the course of her life had been irrevocably altered from what she'd always planned it to be. How it had been worth it. How it would never be worth it.
"It certainly does," she said.
"Why do you ask? Are you thinking about finding someone?" Sarai grinned mischievously. "Should I comb the Crownguard for particularly dashing individuals to send your way?"
"If you start trying to set me up with a Crownguard, I will teach Callum every Del Barian drinking song I know," Lissa threatened. She looked sidelong at Sarai, trying to keep a straight face.
Sarai cracked first, her face contorting with mirth before she burst into laughter. "You're not serious."
"I am absolutely serious," Lissa said, laughing as well. "I'll start with the bawdiest ones, just try me."
A tentative cry came from the other room, followed by a louder, more emphatic wail. Sarai sighed. "Someone's hungry."
"Or soiled, or gassy, or—," Lissa ticked the possibilities off on her fingers, smiling.
"No, that's the hungry cry. I'd know it anywhere." She pulled Lissa into a quick hug, kissing her cheek, then began to edge around the painting toward the nursery door. "Go home. I'll see you tomorrow. This thing should be out of the way, by then."
"That'll be a relief."
"And Lissa?" Sarai poked her head back around the portrait. "Maybe think a bit about staying open to love? For me?"
She retreated again before Lissa could respond—off to tend little Ezran, who was now crying with gusto. Lissa looked at the portrait again and sighed. The perfect family.
"I'll try," she murmured.
Se4 ep4 thoughts
First of all, i just realised Ibis's message reminds me very much of Kingsley's patronus in HP and the Deathly Hallows saying the ministry has fallen😂
Random but I don't really get why Ezran has a telephatic connection to Zym? Like okay he can talk to animals which includes Zym(which I too don't really know where it came from but ok) but does this connection add anything besides being an deus ex machina at the end of book 2? And then they couldn't just write it off so it just shows up randomly? Idk myb it leads somewhere and i hadn't gotten there yet.
Human-elf argument? Is it to show they aren't ready to truly accept one another? Where's this going?
Why does Ezran going with them solve anything? Like it's a gesture of good will but he can't really help them fight Viren. He can just die and then Katolis will be without a king. Myb just I dunno, send your High Mage with them? It's a gesture of good will and he can actually defend himself. And isn't an eleven y/o! Opeli get your head on straight!
I really like the cook but he comes in at most random moments? Like I think brown sludge tarts can wait my friend.
Oh so others are coming. Kinda makes sense.
Damn architect i get where ur coming from but have a heart! Why doesn't he take his mother's spirit flame out of the camp?
Love how much Callum cares about Bait. Even tho he's just endangering him.
Ohhh we're getting Aaravos backstory!!
Wait how long do elves live? Aditi is Janai's grandmother right? And this was hundreds of years ago. I love how they couldn't just talk about who'll ascend the throne. Do you even get that many benefits from it?
Young human girl? Looks like some ancestor of Katolis leaders. And was that before dark magic and banishment of humans? Cause otherwise why did she even know about this? The cube!! Thousand years??? Do all elves live this long or just Great Ones(who are they btw?)
What exactly was Aaravos's goal with causing all these crisises? Now ig it's getting free but what about before?
New transition i love: Aaravos still shown whispering when it switches to Claudia to show how he's manipulating her.
Omgg is this a Viren - Terry bonding moment is see in the near future??
Oh fuck off Viren. Just. Fuck off. Like I didn't think it would be all sweet and this but at least something? Get a grip?? Idk if u read my post for ep3 but i imagined Viren would myb find some new respect for Terry after learning what he did but no.
Shit shit shit stupid architect woman why would u do that!? I feel so bad for the elf i started crying😭 honestly his voice actor really convinced me of his anguish and it makes the whole scene(same with Janai when her sister died these actors are doing a fine job) did the whole bucket just turn to ash? Damn. Why doesn't it happen to humans tho? Bucket more flammable? I like that he immediately regrets burning her even if he was in the wrong, but honestly the animation doesn't sell it as much as the voice actor would i think. Why is there no gasp or sth?
Are they hinting Aaravos could turn his attention to Callum? I mean he'd certainly be interesting as a human who knows an arcanum.
Damn. I mean we knew Aaravos was powerful but a being from the heavens? Dragons combined couldn’t risk a confrontation?
Okay that scene talking about the magical prison has me more and more convinced that my far-fetched thought was right and the cube is the prison lmao. Like it looked like sth tiny? Idk.
They found Ibis's body! With blood mysteriously gone but ok. If we're being honest Zym should prolly be more attached to Ibis than Ez cause he spent way more time with him. But he wasn't a MC so tough luck. Where's Callum? Oh they're late. Idk why but in my mind Rayla was riding with Callum and Soren.
Viren's hesitating! I mean I get it if magic got me killed I wouldn't be so eager to pick it up again.
Dragons can do magic? Huh.
What the fuck is he doing to Callum? I mean possession was my first thought but. Couldn't he have done it before to anyone? I mean he prolly didn't want to reveal what he can do while still in prison before he was ready.
Damn for whatever reason I love him talking to Ezran. Ig it shows sth but i don't have the brains right now to figure out what.
Bait being moral support to Soren so cute!!
I love how he blew them a kiss and broke the mirror lmao. Drama queen.
"What's wrong?"
"I don't know what to send with you."
"Callum loves everything about Xadia. You could give him a blade of grass and he'd be bouncing off the walls."
"Very funny." she rolled her eyes. She didn't know Amaya's nephews as well as she would like, but with Ezran at least she could count on his love of sweets. For his birthday, she had the cooks pile together their best dessert recipes (and because he was a king and it seemed proper, she'd also sent a chess set). There was a chocolate smudge on the letter that had him claiming the black pieces and giving his first move. They'd been playing a game by mail ever since.
But Callum was harder, he liked books, so Kazi would be her best bet, but...she couldn't give up the few books they had, even if it was a children's book, it was culturally important now; virtually irreplaceable.
"What are you giving him?"
"Nope. You have to think of something."
"I can't...I don't want to send him something he hates... I want him to like me."
"He likes you already, and so do I." Amaya kissed her cheek, "Just pick something."
....
"I mean," Callum lifted the heavy present as he considered it, "it's....nice."
"I like the color." Ezran offered, trying to look on the bright side, as always."
"I just don't know why Queen Janai would give me a sunfire shield..."
"It's my fault. She was a nervous wreck trying to chose the perfect gift and I finally told her to just pick something. Next thing I know, I'm hauling an extra shield half way around the world."
"What's to be a wreck about?"
"She wants you two to like her."
"Ohhh...are things getting serious, with your elf not-friend?" Callum asked with a grin that reminded Amaya of Sarai. She tried to cover a blush by flipping his hair.
"They are! She's blushing, Callum! " Ezran pointed at his aunt and started to sing while signing, "Aunt Amaya and Queen Janai sitting in the mist, it still won't hide the fact they ki-rrrphhh." Amaya pulled him in close with one arm and covered his mouth with the other.
As Soren and Corvus playfully tackled her to save their king, Callum heaved the shield over to the shelves to the left of the covered mirror, "I'll just send a thank you note telling her how much I like it. It's the thought the counts, right?"
There was no answer from the dogpile.
As @calcliffbas, for some reason, can't send me asks from his blog, he sent me a message when I first reblogged the "5 Headcanons About an AU" ask game, so I'm putting them here in this post.
Maiko in a small-town Grocery Store AU
I've read a story similar to this one, actually, called photosynthesis of the soul, where Iroh and Mura owned shops in a mall (tea and flowers, predictably) that Zuko and Mai worked at. It was really adorable, actually.
Mai is the floral department associate, running it under the supervision of her aunt Mura, the floral department manager. She doesn't mind it - it's quite, and she likes the hidden meanings that flowers can have.
Zuko works in the deli, usually in the background; he started in the customer service area but that didn't work out so well after he got in a fight with a customer named Jet.
Mai had already been working there when Zuko was hired, and she thought he was a little weird, but handsome. She likes him, at least from a distance, and his awkward flirting is cute whenever he comes by.
Zuko usually ends up in the floral section when he takes a break, at first because it reminds him of his mother, who had been a florist. That's how they end up meeting (actually meeting, not just locking eyes from across the store); Mai wants to know why he keeps coming over here and interrupting her drawing/flower-arranging.
Azula had come to the store to bother their uncle (the owner; he bought the store from Ozai) and she almost instantly became best friends with Mai the moment she walked in. She proceeded to viciously tease Zuko and Mai until she eventually had enough of their pining, and set them up on a date.
The Dragon Prince characters' misadventures at a Friday night youth club
This one...hmm.
Opeli and Ibis are the technically the two running the place, and she is incredibly tired because all these kids are causing a lot of trouble. Opeli survives Friday nights mostly on caffeine; Ibis needs about four hours of meditation instead of twenty minutes.
Nyx causes a ton of trouble by playing pranks on everyone. And I mean everyone. Opeli, Soren, Rayla, Callum, Ezran - she even plays pranks on Bait, sometimes. Everyone says they hate it, but they love it. Really, they totally do.
Soren and Claudia are new additions to the group, coming from a relatively troubled home; Rayla invited Soren after they made up, following several fights on the sports field. Claudia was a harder sell, but eventually Soren managed to convince her. Turns out they both really needed a place to get away from home.
Amaya, Janai, Opeli, Ethari, and Ibis shouldn't have one, but they have a bet going about whether or not Rayla and Callum will get together, since the two have been dancing around each other for a very long time now and they're all frustrated. Marcos, Amaya, and Gren have a different pool for Nyx and Soren - they all lost, though, because Nyx and Soren got together, secretly, before the pool was started.
Bait, Zym, and Stella cause lots of trouble by breaking into the pantry and eating...well, everything. Ezran, Callum, and Rayla think its hilarious. Soren is scandalized and upset that all the food is gone. Claudia just wants some hot brown morning potion. Nyx is the one who let them in.
Sokka and Suki's meet-cute in their very own College AU
I actually kinda wrote this already, believe it or not😅may not be exactly what you're looking for but this is what I got.
Suki is a health physics major, Sokka in aeronautical engineering; they met, technically, years before, during high school soccer, but had fallen out of contact. They met again during freshman year physics. Sokka was surprised to see her, but he was nonetheless, still humbled.
Sokka is, of course, still hung up on Yue. Her passing affected him quite a lot; it took a lot of conversations with Zuko, Iroh, and Katara for him to get it into his head that no, past did not equal present or future.
They actually got together almost completely on accident. They got dinner after a class they were TAing together, and then they just...stayed out. And then they were together, under the moonlight.
Katara, Azula, and Aang were not surprised in the least. They both saw it coming from a mile away. Zuko was mildly surprised (Zuko, in any AU, is still Zuko), but he figured they went well together. Ty Lee called bridesmaid the moment she heard.
Suki, for her part, was just glad they got together. She'd been thinking about Sokka for nearly two years after they first (actually) met, and she knew she was crazy - her aunts both said it to her face - but she held on to him, hoping they'd meet again some day. For all his faults, he'd been a good guy. (And he was cute. That was a bonus, too.) When she finally did see him again, it was a rush of happiness, mixed with a little," Oh, crap, this guy again." (She did still remember when he said girls shouldn't play soccer or do martial arts. And she also remembered running circles around him.)
