Random Headcanons I Have for the Various Dragonslayers Part 2

Part 1

Laxus has a permanent state of bedhead and no amount of hair gel can fix it

Sometimes Rogue gets 'nightmares' from the bad future but he only remembers vague bits and pieces when he wakes up

Natsu has full on accidentally set no less than seven wooden pieces of furniture on fire in the guildhall due to his body temperature

When Wendy wants to think she finds the highest building/mountain to sit on top of and listens to the wind

Laxus is endlessly annoyed that Natsu has the ability to use lightning (sure it only happens in dire circumstances and Natsu gets violently sick afterward but still)

Natsu and Gajeel have fought over who gets to eat the last Twinkie and they will do it again

The first time Erik really hated his enhanced hearing after he reformed was when he had to hear everyone constantly talk about how much they wanted Jellal and Erza to get together already

Despite never having trained with actual dragons Laxus and Erik when they first got their powers had dreams where dragon-like figures explained things. Neither have ever told anyone about it.

More Dragon Slayer Headcannons

Uhh holy shit the last one blew up like crazy, so here I guess have more dragon slayers being creepy.

Because they have more air in their lungs they can hold their breath for a stupidly ridiculous amount of time, they’re also excellent swimmers.

They have really dense bone structure but hollow air filled bones so they’re all extremely sturdy, they also have much denser muscles which leaves them unnaturally strong.

The more they use their dragon slayer magic, the more dragon like they become both in physical appearance and personality as over time it starts to slowly show up in their personalities, they become territorial and protective of what they deem to be ‘there’s’, they growl at people as a warning to back the fuck off, they bear their teeth as a sign of aggression, as for the physical their eyes will take on an unnatural glow, Natsu’s becoming orange like embers glowing in the darkness, Laxus’s become electric yellow, Gajeel’s become like brownish rust red and so on, their teeth become longer even the way they walk and carry themselves becomes more inhuman, they way they fight becomes like that of a beast only not wild, extremely intelligent and cunning to a frightening degree.

They naturally seek out their own element, almost like a honing instinct, Laxus tends to travel towards storms, while Natsu often travels as much as he can to hot places where fires are likely to start, Gajeel always visits a city’s junkyard, Rogue always finds his way to dark, pitch black caves while Sting always climbs to the highest sunniest peaks he can to bathe in the light, Wendy frequently visits high up or isolated mountains to be closer to the sky.

Dragon Force effects more than just their magic, it also effects their personality and they can become almost completely different people entirely retaining only their base most present thoughts from before hand with their instincts often telling them to do one thing only; defeat whatever enemy is in front of them.

They’re also in part nocturnal which is both inherited from their magic and because it was how they where raised, while it varied from dragon to dragon, most preferred to hunt and move at night-time due to the fact less humans where active at night and they could see perfectly well in the dark which made avoiding humans easier. Both Laxus and Erik are also semi-nocturnal because of this and most dragons slayers find it difficult to sleep at night as their brains are hard wired to be active during the period most humans are sleeping. The only acceptation to this is Sting who while he can use his magic in the dark, it doesn’t work nearly as well as it does in the day time.

They heal at an incredible fast rate, almost double the spend of a normal human. Though they can’t regrow limbs or anything like that, this incredible healing ability makes it easier to survive severe injuries and wounds. Laxus however using electricity can stimulate the cells in a particular area to heal even faster than other dragon slayers however overusing this technique leaves him severely exhausted and if he used it too much he’ll overload his entire nervous system and just collapse.

Thinking about fairy tail and I came across the realisation that Gray’s magics are basically fighting each other?

Sure they’re both ice magic but:

Maker Magic vs Slayer Magic

They’re literally polar (haha) opposites!

And if you really want to make it worse: if you head canon that after taking the memento morí curse Gray was ‘demonised’ a bit, his magic could be hurting him.

It wouldn’t be the same for the dragon slayers because they’re magic gives them the dragon attributes. They aren’t actually part dragon.

—personally, i think all slayer types have a bit of what their magic is designed to destroy in them (keep your enemies closer type shit yk?), but i also like to ignore inconvenient things in my hcs for fun—

The idea of his magic hurting him is a horrifying thought so im thanking you immensely , this ended up being more of a ramble abt Grays magics in general tbh

If i remember correctly, Silver didnt have those ‘demonized’ marks and he used to same magic (also i hc that devil slayer magic is a mix of normal magic also curses, like using the demons own abilities against them, but thats a separate topic). Going off this, it’s because he had, what, 17 years to gradually learn it? He didn’t become demonized bc he didnt have to force himself to use it immediately

I think bc Gray having to learn so fast or having to use it so intensely immediately after getting his devil slayer magic that his body simply couldnt fully handle the onslaught of demonic-esque magic that it partially overrides his humanity in a sense. Which is why we get to see that ‘demonized’ look he has.

i ALSO think the reason he doesn’t become full demonized is because how he was able to learn so fast, bc he used the molding tactics he already knew. So when Gray uses his devil slayer abilities he is also using his makers magic at the same time, which restores some semblance of his humanity. (i really hope this makes as much sense to you as it does me)

On the topic of why Grays slayer magic may harm him and not other slayers,

Its bc of what i stated before, he had to use too much power too fast. Its like when someone who isnt used to exercising tries out a vigorous one without any warm up; it can hurt and overexert body and do more harm than good.

Slayer magic is different than most other type of magic, it more about raw power than a perfect technique (in this au anyways), it takes a little of whatever they’re supposed to destroy and transfers it into them a little more every-time they overuse it

Usually, Dragon slayers are raised by actual dragons, they were taught from the ground up what to do and what to not do, how to handle that much power at once and how to use it

Gray, a devil slayer, had absolutely none of that. He knew no more than what he observed of other slayer types, but every type of, even the different subtypes, work differently. So he was going from nothing and probably thought this was just how it felt all the time.

It felt like his two magics were at a constant war inside him every-time he used them together, both fighting for control of sorts, it hurt less than it felt extremely uncomfortable

TOP 10 ANIMANGA ON FANFICTION.NET BASED ON NUMBER OF FANWORKS (1999-2022)

To make this bar chart race, all series titles in the Anime/Manga Section on November 29 (or the closest date to it) of every year were copy-pasted from Wayback Machine to Google Sheets, rearranged according to number of fanworks, and then inputted to Flourish to turn into a bar chart race.

In 1999-2001, FFN used Anime as a catch-all tag for all anime that didn’t have their own category yet before it was removed in 2002 onwards.

In 1999, fanfiction weren’t divided into sections like Anime/Manga, TV, Books, etc. yet. It was just a small list of mixed fandoms.

Originally, the fanfiction list was sorted alphabetically too, but was changed to number of fics at around early 2013.

By November 2013, FFN started abbreviating numbers above 1,000 to K, so exact numbers aren't available for series with more than 1,000 fanfiction.

Edit: This bar chart is all made with the assumption that the numbers listed in section are correct. I can't seem to get the same numbers for some for these series when I go to the specific series' page and filter everything to All though... I don't know if I'm missing something or not...

For example, currently, the anime/manga section says Naruto has 439k fics, but going to the Naruto page and filters, ratings and language to All, it says there's only 413k fics. There's also 37.3k crossover fics, but adding would be equal to 450k fics... If anyone can clue me in on how FFN calculates these numbers, I'd be very grateful.🙏

Random headcanons I have for the various Dragon Slayers as I think of them

Wendy can litterally taste a difference in the air (i.e. late fall and early winter taste sweet, stroms make the air taste a little spicy surprisingly (I think it’s the lightning))

Natsu knows how hot any particular item would have to be to catch fire

While Gajeel can technically eat anything made of metal, anything that doesn’t have at least a little iron in it gives him indigestion

Sting glows. Like a nightlight

Laxus always has a low level of electricity running through him, so if you touch him unexpectedly you get shocked

If you were to place Rogue into a completely pitch black room, he would melt into the shadows entirely and you would never find him again

All of the Dragon Slayers can eat their elements. I know that the show establishes this litterally episode 1 but I’m taking it a step further. Not only can they use that element for magical energy but they can also use it for litteral energy and sustanence. Say for example you were to capture all of them and place them in different cells with the full intention of starving them to death. As long as there is litteral air Wendy won’t be dying any time soon. And shadows exist everywhere so Rogue is fine. Natsu would probably be able to snack on a nearby torch... Let’s be real Gajeel would just eat the prison bars. The only two that would really have a problem would be Sting and Laxus but even then it would be entirely dependant on where they were being held. All of that to lead to my final headcanon.

Dragon Slayer magic changes a person down to the smallest level. If you were to slap magic dampeners or the hadcuffs that make it impossible to use magic, they would still be Dragon Slayers and nothing would be able to stop them from eating their respective elements.

I don’t think I will ever get over the dragon slayers. A magic born of one sole purpose to slay dragons and yet in the process of doing so they become the very thing they sought so desperately to kill. I’m weak for the aspects of it all, a self fulfilling prophecy that comes true in the worst way possible. The fulfilment of if you stare long enough into the abyss, it stares back and it changes you. No longer are you human after that, they throw away their humanity for the sake of stopping these monsters, yet in the end become the very monsters they so sought to destroy.

They become the thing they hated so much. Until another comes along to slay them and thus continue’s the cycle. Forever and ever, humans and dragon slayers.

Until five dragons decided otherwise and in the end the cycle was not broken by hate or anger or revenge but love. Pure love. Because those dragons loved their human children and refused to let them become monsters to be hunted by others.

Because that is the point of the story, love and family.
