Audiobook Review…The Iron Crown by L.L. MacRae Lost and confused, his only hope for answers is Calidra a woman living on the edge of the world with her partner. Surrounded by vengeful spirits and powerful magic, Fenn’s desperate attempt to find his way home might well alter the fate of Tassar, and every power in it. I really enjoyed this audiobook! The story is told from four different points of view and I know some don't care for that but it was easy to follow along and keep track of who was who. The world building was done wonderfully. The characters are compelling; you really can't help but get tangled up with everything they have going on! It's a fast-paced story that pulls you in. Fantastic story I can't wait for the next book! Week 16 - Ride (#wizardapril day 17)

With every day here at the academy of magic Porkerquarter, I better appreciate how imaginative their teaching methods are. The faculty puts a lot of effort into making learning magic and practicing it fun. Yet they also do their best to best prepare their students for the eventualities of life outside of Porkerquarter. So only the freshcreatures train casting spells in a tranquil classroom. The advanced students train their spell-casting under ever more challenging conditions. The ultimate training challenge is the Porkerquarter Twisted Steel Drama. Beloved and feared by the students, this ride is the ultimate challenge in their studies. Seated in a small lorry, they hurtle at an incredible pace over steel tracks in the dark. During this ride, they have to perform complex arcane exercises. But the punishing physical stress on their bodies is only part of the test. It has become a matter of competition and pride among the house ghosts to see which can strike the most fear and panic into the riders’ hearts.

This is the first book in a new series Belladonna and it was a good young adult mystery story with a touch of romance and horror. The writing was good. I did find the book a little predictable but the twists that came were still good! The connection between Death and Signa and her powers was really interesting! As the series continues it will be interesting to see where the relationship goes with them and I think Signa is going to find out a lot more about herself so I'm looking forward to the next book ! ★ What is the longest book you’ve read? Well, Oathbringer held that spot since 2020, but a couple weeks ago I finally got around to reading Rhythm of War and at 460k words (1232 pages!) it now holds the top spot. I listened to the audiobook and followed along with the physical book, which really is the way to go for me with beastly books like this. The audio is over 57 hours long, but I listened at about 2.25x, and it wasn’t near that daunting. 😅 Also, I loved it—five stars, all around. Currently reading this book. 30% (ish) of the way through. It’s based on the legend of Brynhildr and Sigurd (a Germanic saga). The prose is poetic and feels as though you (the reader) are eavesdropping on a conversation. Both of the protagonists throughout their narration are addressing it to each other. I’m very invested in learning how it is going to develop throughout and how those developments will change and add to the story it is based off. I am enjoying the way Kate Heartfield has approached these characters and the way in which she has provided historical context alongside the fantasy elements
