Fairy Crassula is just coming into flower (Crassula multicava) is a perennial succulent. It is known under various common names including fairy crassula, pitted crassula and London pride. It’s native of South Africa, particularly the mountainous regions of Natal, Eastern and Southern Cape. I potted some cuttings up in a trough and they are doing very well. It asks for nothing and exists only on rain. If a slightly shady area is left vacant it will move in as a ground cover. Hostas are one of my favorite foliage plants and the choice of varieties are endless. To my surprise they grow well in the shade under our live oaks here in my organic garden with supplemental watering and the occasional feeding of an organic all purpose fertilizer. I thought it would be way too hot for them here in the summer in Austin, Texas but thanks goodness I was wrong! Mine are planted in the ground and I had delightfully little slug problems so far. I have only two varieties in the moment in my garden but I intend to add a few more and build up a collection. I would love to acquire a chartreuse colored variety as seen in this photo which I took in England. Any other hosta lovers out there? Which is your favorite variety? Yellowing leaves serve a purpose. I don’t worry too much when I see them. Ever since the growing season started, my anthurium has been thirstier and hungrier than ever! She’s been pushing out inflo after inflo, each time draining the oldest leaves of it nutrients. I’ve made note of this and doing my best to both increase the frequency of watering and up the fertilizer. Since consistently doing so, after a few months, not only has the rate of yellowing leaves slowed dramatically, but she’s working on a new leaf (possibly the largest yet). So exciting!
