The Pink Evening Primrose also called Pink Ladies, Oenothera speciosa, is blooming gloriously in La Jolla right now. It is native to North America and I have seen it in Texas too, but here, where I found it growing in the front yards, its blooms were much bigger than in Austin. All flowers seem to be huge and their colors are very intense in Southern California’s coastal areas. This part of the United States simply offers ideal growing conditions to many plants! Yesterday we were invited over to friends and I wanted to bring a hostess gift. So I decided to get some autumnal flowers and gave my third hand tied bouquet a go. I used orange roses, orange/yellow alstroemerias, and some form of eucalyptus. Guys, let me tell you, flower arranging doesn’t come easy to me! I had to redo the bouquet three times. But at the end I think it came out OK. I arranged a quick stilllife surrounding the bouquet with some pumpkins on our kitchen table and took a snap to show it to you before it went to its recipient.
