All the jokes about Ken and horses are good but I just wanna say it's such a good parallel to how actual young men get swept into misogyny and the patriarchy.

Like they're told to believe it means men get to be cool and manly and have this power but with that comes extremely rigid commands of what they can be as a man and a cycle of self hatred for never matching those gender roles perfectly. Patriarchy tells men that if they just do exactly what is expected of them, then they get all the "cool stuff" that comes with. That doesn't work though when there's only a small group that actually gets that power, but men will keep trying to fit into those roles in hopes that they can.

In the end there are no horses or the myth men are told, it's just endless cycles of self hatred and ingroup fighting.

I came up with the concept of an infected Marissa who could become a secret boss in the game

When you come to her for the first time, she behaves as usual and asks you to listen to her song. You sit down in your seat, listen, she thanks you, and you leave. However, if you don't convert her into essence right away, the next time you visit her, she changes her appearance a little, and again asks you to listen to her sing, a little more insistently. As a result, with each of your visits, the signs that she is infected will become more obvious, and she will ask you to stay more and more intrusive, until finally she wants you to listen to her forever, and then the boss fight will happen

I think the Radiance captured her mind with bright memories of her beloved city and its inhabitants, now stricken by the plague, of her bright concerts and former glory, and of close friends who disappeared, were infected or were preparing to fall asleep forever. Most likely, she died possessed by these visions, and her ghost, who remained on the stage, unaware of his death, was also possessed

Florrickology, Part 4.5: "Lady Mizora" really could have fucked

I made this point in Florrickology Part 4, laying out the various simple ways that Larian could have contextualized Florrick confronting Wyll in Act 3 in a way that was a) not stupid and shitty and b) faithful to her characterization, but I've been thinking more about it and holy fuck does it suck that they didn't just capitalize on "Lady Mizora."

Because Ulder threw Wyll away for cavorting a devil, right?

That's unacceptable; there's never an excuse for something so selfish, reckless, and just plain stupid. His son may have been his pride and joy up to that moment, but how could he possibly forgive Wyll? How could he possibly trust him again?

But what if Florrick, his trusted advisor, closest confidant, greatest champion, fondest friend, the person who supported him more than his own family, did almost the same exact thing?

He could blame Wyll. His son should have known better. He raised Wyll better than that.

But... how could he possibly blame Florrick? He knows she's not selfish, reckless, or stupid. He couldn't not forgive Florrick. He couldn't not trust her again.

And... he doesn't look at Florrick and see himself. His hopes and dreams. His triumphs and failures. His beloved wife. He doesn't see a little boy who got misty-eyed over mermaids and loved to go fishing outside of Wyrm's Rock. There are none of those big, gooey feelings that hard-ass leader dad duke guys aren't the best at synthesizing and expressing.

In Florrick, he sees a friend and equal. A paragon of the best of the city. A public servant of the finest mettle.

She was a victim, no doubt about it. Anyone can be a victim, he knows that, no matter how powerful or intelligent or virtuous they are.

But, isn't that unfair? Why is Wyll culpable but Florrick innocent? He'd have to reconcile that. He'd have to look inside himself and understand the real reasons he cast will out, and with that understanding, seek Wyll's forgiveness.

auntie ethel’s conversation with durge in the grove is so well written. if you tell her about your dark thoughts she tells you that thinking about something is the first step to doing it. then she invites you to her teahouse. durge exposes a weakness to her (fear of hurting someone) and she strikes at it like a viper (tells them that they WILL hurt someone unless they get Her Help Specifically). it’s just so well done.

Marazhai being Trueborn is worth it if nothing else for the fucked-up sibling drama he has with Yremeryss. She decided to take him being born extremely personally, but also, he's her only Dracon so she's not super incentivized to kill him. So they've just been stuck in a cycle of sabotaging each other for who knows how long, and at least until you come along it seems like she'd been winning.

He fucked up a raid? She has her haemonculus torture Low Gothic into his brain to teach the other Kabalites a lesson. He tries to have her usurped as Archon in front of their liege's Kabal? She lets the Wyches take his skin and make him fight in the arena to earn it back. And even though last one was bad enough he wants her soul trapped over it, he's more mad about the status loss than the "making him earn his skin back" part.

And then later you can ask him about why haven't they killed each other sooner and beyond just being too scared cautious to do it himself, he's also like, "its a bonding thing, and trying to torment other people would be boring so :/" which is probably true but also he doesn't seem to have many stories of getting one up on her so...?

#I was talking to some buddies about lies of p and sekiro and how LoP’s defense as offense mentality helped get into sekiro #but then how sekiro overwrote that mentality with its own “offense is the best defense” mentality #or “hesitate and you lose” as Grandpappy isshin would say #and how the switch for the change for me was genichiro who I think is one of the best designed bosses in gaming #you CAN’T play too defensively with him because he’s happy to pepper you with arrows from a distance #and then the moment comes when you realize your sword interrupts his bow attacks sekiro truly begins as a game #lady butterfly is also a good fight but all her moves bring her to you so there’s less incentive to be as aggressive #vs genny baby who will back off and fire off his bow if you let him #this isn’t even like a video of me playing perfectly but I LOVE getting my feudal edgelord corner stunned and just bursting him down #I kinda hate the owl shinobi fight bc he hits too hard and his attacks just aren’t interesting to react to #but it’s also possible to corner stun him and just go to town on his health bar #owl father and inner father are much better fights and I actually really enjoyed inner father a lot #but the Ashina family fights are absolutely stunning achievements in game design imo #perfectly balanced to be difficult but fair and visually stunning to boot #even if there is a layer of artificial difficulty in the final battle with the flowers obscuring their swords when they’re crouched #but the animations are solid enough that there are enough other more subtle differences like how hes shifting his weight #if he’s centered he’s going to lunge but if he’s angled he’s gonna sweep #I had so much fun with LoP and sekiro 🥰🥰🥰 I crave more… #I can’t say the combat in Elden ring gorilla gripped me like these two games have but I like HAVE to play dark souls I know this #sekiro #tsuchi plays games
