Man I don’t think people realize that these laws (like the WV laws) affect real people (supporting what you said about bigger issues in the trans community).

I JUST started transitioning. Like, I’m getting T THIS WEEK. If this law passes, I can never go to WV with my family again and my state is probably next. it’s sad because WV is beautiful. camdem park was a big part of my childhood. the mountains there are gorgeous!! i have so many great memories going there for band events. heck, my partner went to a gay conference and drag bar in WV, queer people are there!! they reminded me just now that WV is the state with the most trans people per square inch proportionally (their words, not mine). ain’t our fault how republicans fucked the region over.

republicans be fighting my dysphoria on who can be the biggest piece of shit in my life i swear. you know if one of those men had low testosterone at 60, they will get full treatment, but im scared of ostracization, getting harrassed, and these fucking laws because im a trans guy who has low testosterone. >:(

Disabled and stuck in an abusive hell in the backwoods of wv, with no water or heat. About to be thrown out into freezing temperatures.

I’ve put this off, but I can’t anymore. I need your help.

I’m currently stuck in very rural wv on top of a mountain, with snow and ice storms now constant. I’m in a small trailer with my dog and cat on my stepdad’s property, and he is an evil, abusive, homophobic/transphobic drunk. After systematically abusing and dehumanizing me for months, even when I had a broken ankle, he’s now about to lock me out and leave me for dead in the middle of winter when I can barely walk.

For context: I never thought I’d end up back here with the man who made my childhood a living hell of fear and abuse, but unfortunately I lost my apartment and had nowhere else to go. I’m disabled and I was illegally evicted, but that’s another story…

Over the past few months he’s turned off the water, turned the electricity off when I displease him, stopped allowing my mom to bring me food or even see me, made countless threats, and has been drunkenly threatening me and calling me slurs (I am a trans/gay man), as well as making me perform demeaning work for him. It only gets worse as he finds new ways of torturing me, and my mother is the only thing that’s stopped him from kicking me out. But that’s no longer stopping him as he abuses her cruelly every day and she’s being worn down.

I have no wifi. I have no phone of my own. No contact with anyone who can help me (my boyfriend lives several states away and can only do so much). My family has abandoned me. I haven’t bathed in months and food is dwindling. My mom sneaks me her phone (what I’m using currently) so I don’t go insane, but it usually has one—maybe two bars and I can’t usually make calls with it. We’re also 40 miles from the nearest town which is just a Walmart and a shitty strip mall of nothing. On top of that I broke my ankle a little while ago and I still can barely walk. My doctor urged me to get physical therapy but I’m not allowed to go, as my stepdad doesn’t believe I even broke it in the first place.

The last straw was last night. He dragged me outside while I was in nothing but a t shirt and shorts, and forced me to shovel snow and ice around the property well into the night. He screamed at me the entire time in a drunken rage, laughing and calling me a fatass dyke, saying he hoped I’d break a leg too or my neck so he could leave me at the hospital, while forcing me to trudge through icy snow on my damaged ankle. And he will surely do it again as he takes great pleasure in my suffering.

At this point, my only hope is that my older brother will pick me up and take me back to Michigan, but his family is wishy washy as hell and have been making excuses right and left as to why they can’t actually come get me. Right now it’s because they “just don’t see how they can afford it during the holidays”. Either that or I need to somehow move to Minnesota with my bf. This is my only hope, and I am in desperate, desperate need of money to make it happen.

I’m freezing. I’m in pain, and suffering. I don’t know what’s going to happen to me or my pets and it’s terrifying. I just have to get out of here or I’m not going to make it. Please, if you have any money or kind words to spare, or even if you can only reblog this, it would mean literally everything to me.

I know now, I hope it helps bring attention to Trans Genocide. Look at these laws, some i have in more detail than others, proposed and passed that seek to criminalize our existence.

West Virginia: SB 252 (Sent to Judiciary January 17, 2023) Would define being Trans as an obscenity to minors.

Oklahoma: SB 129 (Prefiled to be Introduced February 6th, 2023) Would ban Trans Affirming Healthcare to everyone under 26 and forcibly detransition anyone under that age who has transitioned. This would currently encompass all of Gen Z.

States like Arizona, Montana, Tennessee and Nebraska have proposed bills that would ban drag from minors, but could be enforced in the same way as WV SB 252 in theory.

In 2022

Florida banned Medicaid coverage for Trans Affirming Healthcare.

Bathroom Bans were instituted in states across the country.

Laws banning any Trans Affirming Healthcare for teens have been enacted in several states.

"Don't Say Gay" Bills, again spread across the country in various states.

In Texas the Family and Protective Services were ordered to begin investigating all trans children in Texas and prosecuting their parents as child abusers and all teachers, doctors, and caregivers ordered to begin reporting any trans students they see.

I know that no one cares about West Virginia, most people honestly forget that it even exists, but I cannot stress enough how much politics in WV effect the rest of the country. You ever wonder why the EPA has been getting weaker and weaker, that's because of WV's state supreme court rulings. Do you care about animal conservation and ground water pollution? Then you should be paying very close attention to WV which has multiple species of animal that are ONLY found in caves in WV. The lack of funding to the state mine department has led to an increase in mine run off ruining entire creeks. Just a decade ago one of the largest mining companies in the state contaminated the Elk river with an industrial coal cleaning solvent, it was the third leak from the same plant in 5 years and nothing changed. Did you know that most voters in large areas of WV are single issue voters? I cannot tell you how many people I knew growing up who didn't like any part of a politicians platform except for what they said on abortion or gay rights but would vote for them anyway cause they also hated one of those 2 things.

Anyway it is just so disheartening to see this state that I love so much not only have absolute dog-shit people and policies in power, but to see everyone else ignore it. Pay attention to what happens in the smaller red states too, not just the big ones like Texas

Summary isn't my strong point but here you go:

Within the context of Homestuck's ironic scaremongering, race is gendered: white is feminized and black is masculinized. Hence the sexualized threat of white being "mated" by black in cosmic chess games, later repeated in lime Calliope (who speaks with a British accent) being "mated" by her brother Caliborn (whose triumph is marked by imagery from Planet of the Apes, a racialized post-apocalyptic film).

After black "mates" white in WV's game, we see a PINK can explode with BROWN liquid -- understanding those as abstracted skin colors, the scene poses whiteness as a mother that dies upon giving birth to black children.

On Alternia, everyone sends genetic material to their shared mother, whose face is a skull. This poses the trolls of Alternia as "black" and their symbolically dead Mother Grub as "white". (Tangentially: the word "motherfucker" tends to come from the lips of character affecting blackness)

The lime caste exists in the gap between olive and jade, both of which are associated with reproduction but do not give birth: Nepeta paints pictures ("reproductions") on a bloody cave wall to invoke the womb, while Kanaya is midwife to the Mother Grub. Implicitly, the missing lime caste (the black hole the local castes orbit) embodies the trolls' inability to become mothers, which means whiteness†

Karkat, the mutant lime blood, is implicitly the only "female" on Alternia in this reading, the focal point of the supposedly exterminated "whiteness". The constant jokes about his sense of emasculation (eg horns are nubs) fall somewhere between commentary on the struggle to assert your masculinity with a clitoris or a parody of pornography humiliating white guys for small dicks (when compared to Big Black Cocks) -- both pejorative paradigms that are built on making the penis the measure of manliness. The jokes about Karkat's "hysterical" tantrums and his being haunted by blood symbols become allusions to menstruation, which serves a similar purpose.

Sorry if the BBC thing seemed to come out of nowhere, but it's kind of a fixture of sexualized racial scaremongering, within pornographic contexts. We see a direct invocation attached to Snowman (a name that suggest whiteness): her "Black Inches", a name taken from a black-focused gay porn magazine. Snowman's position as the only woman at the center of the Felt seems to parallel the missing lime bloods at the center of Alternia, and her 8-ball planet later becomes the basis of Alternia's green moon. The universe ending upon Snowman's death is a repetition of the PINK can exploding when black mates white, by my reckoning.

I could go on but that's the gist of it.

Mcu Stan's are some of the most ignorant and annoying people especially tony, Wanda and Peggy Stan's. I never understood how you could get mad at Jewish or romani people for having a problem with the way the mcu handles its characters. Countless Jewish people have pointed ot why peggy is problematic and why Wanda is to but people get so up in arms about it like a billion dollar company dosen't have the resources to research the characters they're writing.

Peggy as a character fustraits me so much because I know her problematic orgions in the mcu and so do the writers but they keep pushing her and it's starting to effect things outside the mcu.

They've already retconned the comics-Peggy to match MCU-Peggy/HA, to cover up that they adapted Cynthia-the-Nazi by another name.

(Just like She-Hulk lusting over Steve's ass, you can tell it's a nasty dig by male Disney execs at female fans; in this case at those who point out how rotten Peggy is. 

Ironically, it's super authoritarian, radfem and totally in-character of Peggy to violently attack anyone who dares to question her majesty, since that's the very first thing she ever did on screen!) 

Right before pissing away 80+ years of comics history, showing absolute devotion between Steve and Bucky, to turn comics Bucky into a full blown villain who attacks Steve (y'know, like she did?)

Cutting off comics Bucky's nose to spite MCU Bucky's face, cuz all they really want to do is further de-gay MCU Steve in order to bring his stalker Agent Brexit into the main MCU movies again, (because that's her only value! As an accessory to a man!), while they’re supposed to be raising up a black Cap they transparently Did Not Want. 🤮

And just as it was absolutely unforgivable to take Jewish-penned Antifa Steve and pair him off with a Nazi, (I can't help feeling the Indiana Jones movies might have been an influence, there?) 

It was also unforgivable to take Romani Jewish Wanda and turn her into a Nazi. 

Her joint Jewishness and Romani heritage were important, too, because they showed the intersectionality of Fascism’s victims, since comics-Magneto (Jewish) met her Romani mother while imprisoned in Auschwitz. 

(You could also count MCU Bucky under this whitewashing heading, too, since MCU Bucky is partly based on Jewish comics character Arnie Roth. Another Jew made into a villain to serve Disney's Fascist 'don't say gay' values! 

There’s even speculation that they’re going to give WhatIf Bucky Peggy’s shitty corrupt backstory in the next season, and shift the blame off her by having Bucky co-found SHIELDra instead of her. I wouldn’t put it past these whitewashing bastards...)

I can't fault the mere existence of Wanda's villain arc, since that is in the comics... 

Except for two things: 

1) it was transparently done too soon, just because a male creative wanted to be the one to have Cool Scarlet Witch Stuff in his movie.

(If there had been, say, a second season of WV, detailing her slow post-bereavement descent down a dark-mother path? That would've been more interesting and made MoM more organic, IMO.) 

2) The real problem, as someone on twitter I think pointed out, is that if you know about Wanda’s Jewish background in the comics... 

Well, the whole film is about an evil red-headed Jewish witch trying to kidnap and hurt a child for magic ritual purposes. 😬  

Which, if you know about the history of antisemitism, and that Wanda was originally Jewish, makes MoM ‘Blood Libel: the Movie.’ 

And it’s not like Disney would give a shit about the antisemitic vibes, if they knew. 

They’re about to undo all the good of the Captain Marvel movie by doing Secret Invasion, where evil lizard people are secretly infiltrating the earth (IYKYK). 

I saw one Jewish person on twitter pointing out: “Someone was arguing that the skrulls don't deserve their own story because they're evil infiltrators and... this is not comforting to me as a Jewish person, you know? antisemitic conspiracy theorists literally describe Jews as evil lizard people who infiltrate and disguise themselves...” 

Captain Marvel repositioned the Skrulls as innocent maligned refugees, but I guess Disney doesn’t give a fuck about standing by that.

In terms of Wanda’s show, while WV was a great, well-made show, which I enjoyed, while she was an interesting character in it, and Olsen gave a great performance, what I didn't like were the conservative values. 

It reminded me of the anti- second wave feminism films of the 1980s, where any woman who has a career (read: power, like Wanda has) is shown basically being driven insane by it and secretly just wanting to be a tradwife all along, even to the point of threatening her man if he interferes with it. 

In Wanda, we have a woman who never mentioned wanting the white-picket-fence life before, suddenly being desperate to give up an icky career to be a stay-at-home-mom in the suburbs, just because of the kind of 'golden age' sitcoms Disney would love to be associated with.

And it's presented as a terrible tragedy that she doesn't get to keep this sheltered 'dream' 1950s nuclear-family life and the slaves sorry, ‘prisoners with jobs’ necessary to maintain it. 

The spirit of Kevin Feige’s pathetic self-insert, aka Endgame Skrull Steve, is alive and well.

(As usual, a black woman receives the brunt of the violence, and is then made to comfort Wanda about the 'sacrifice' she has made by giving her hex-slaves sorry, ‘prisoners with jobs', their freedom at the cost of her own comfort. 😯 Holy? SHIT??)

Wanda becoming a villain coincides exactly with her turning from white tradwifism and embracing her (career-related) power. 

As usual with Disney tho, they dun fucked up and accidentally made something you can also read as kinda queer? 

Like: a couple who can't have biological children of their own together (like queer couples)? Who don't get to have that white-picket-fence life? Getting run out of town for trying to live that fantasy anyway?

and d) what billionaires call ‘philanthropy’ is actually just using charities for tax write-offs, donating to their old alma maters, etc. 

Daddy was a basic bitch thief, who dealt in stolen vibranium, knew about TWS, co-founded SHIELDra, had a villain business partner, and was BFFs with a Nazi torturer of POWs, and the woman who- gawd -she just can’t stop working with Nazis, bless 'er! 

Tony was blowing up people in the Middle East for decades, making a bundle and very obviously enjoying himself (sipping on champagne while the missiles fly) and only stopped doing that, when- gasp -it affected him personally? 

(The villains of IM movies are the ones just: doing what Tony did.)

Despite claiming otherwise, he hung around with black market arms traffickers often enough for Ulysses Klaue to recognise one of his catchphrases and claim “Stark used to say that to me.” 

He helped design Project Insight and saw nothing wrong with it (we know he didn’t, because he kept arguing in favour of it / recreating it.)

Even after this, he lied and sneaked around behind the Avengers’ backs to hubristically tamper with alien tech in order to create Ultron, leading directly to the endangerment of the world and further deaths in Sokovia (in another universe, this almost destroyed the entire multiverse).

But like a true billionaire none of this ever has any consequences for him!

Something that really bothers me about the popularity of M/C/U Wanda, and the success of WV & DSMOM, is that a lot of the people who really like these things are people who claim to actually get something validating, or cathartic, or empowering out of them. I'm glad that people are finding some value in all this, because I love superhero media in spite its many, many flaws, and I think there is a lot of potential in these stories.

Here's the thing you have to understand, though. Whatever resonance or representation you find in the Scarlet Witch is resonance and representation that people like me, Romani people, have been denied. That might mean nothing to you, but it's about more than just "representation." It's also about the fact that M/C/U fans mobilize to direct hate speech and harassment towards real Romani individuals whenever we speak up about this. It's about the fact that both X-Men and Avengers franchises have perpetuated Holocaust distortion and the historical erasure of Romani genocide. It's also about the fact that anti-Romani and antisemitic tropes in popular fiction do cause material harm in the real world, and these films use the Scarlet Witch character to perpetuate both.

I've seen (white) women wax poetic about how WV & DSMOM explore trauma, grief, and motherhood. I've seen a LOT of gay people relate to Wanda as someone who is ostracized and vilified by the everyone around her. LGBT comic readers (and industry pros) also flocked to Wanda*Vision to see Billy and Tommy, young characters who grow up to become gay and bisexual men in the source material.

Everybody is having a great time loving these characters, whether they connect to the pathos, or they're excited about the prospect of further LGBT representation, but WE don't get to enjoy that with you. I had a conversation last year with an illustrator who works for Marvel Comics. He was talking about how refreshing and, in a way, healing it was to see Billy and Tommy as young children, because gay people are not usually represented in that stage of life, and it often feels like our childhood is taken away from us. I had to tell this guy that I'm also gay, and I would like to be able to feel represented in this way, too, but I'm also Romani. That representation has been taken away from me. It's been taken away from LGBT Jewish people, too. Instead of getting to enjoy these characters, I just have to deal with the racist fanbase. Your enjoyment of this comes at our expense.

It's not masculinity that is privileged. It's manhood. I am privileged. It doesn't matter that I'm trans. But it's not my masculinity that makes me privileged. How did we go backwards and decide man = masc and that MRA talking points are suddenly valid?

I dunno, you kinda just swapped around words so you can say that talking about privilege, hierarchy, and oppression as complex and nuanced and intersectional is "MRA talking points," coz that's easier.

And I guess you're either saying manhood is a separate privileged category from masculinity so we aren't talking about the same thing anyway but then wait no for some reason they are the same thing, but there's an abstract "manhood" which exists as a privilege separate from race or class or whatever?

So like there's something called manhood which exists as a universal abstract concept which not only exists identically across all cultures but it's treated the same by all cultures, like there's no difference whatsoever if you pull a cisgender heterosexual Japanese man from Tokyo and drop him into like uh Brandywine, West Virginia, that guy is gonna get fully the same treatment as Tokyo yeah? Because his manhood is universally transferable? And like then I dunno, a gay black trans man living in like, New York City or something and drop him into Dallas County, Alabama, again thanks to the universality of manhood privilege that dude will live the exact same life yes? Absolutely will not be affected by some other factors?

Which like okay the thing is patriarchal oppression is something that will favor or oppress both of those guys but not in a vacuum. Patriarchal privilege says the black guy is a danger and should be controlled by a white guy, it says the Japanese guy has to be subservient and weak compared to the guy from West Virginia. So, you know, the gay black trans guy maybe if he's lucky and no one ever clocks him and he's not effeminate and is good at code switching and knows how to minimize getting harassed by the police for his race and stuff like that, at a point the patriarchal hierarchy will grant him a higher privilege than some, but not all, women, yes. And forgive my cultural ignorance but I'm 100% sure back in Tokyo the same guys making shitty Asian jokes in WV look absurd and the Japanese dude has a higher place in the hierarchy in Tokyo than Japanese woman in the same circumstances but again only as long as he's conceding to the dominant idea the hierarchy imposes about manliness y'know?

Or hey, uh, not to be me, but I'm a fairly pretty white trans woman and so the patriarchy doesn't precisely love me, but I'm less likely to be shot by a cop than any black person, including a guy. His manhood isn't a privilege there, and I don't have some super secret male privilege, it's just historically in the USA there's like, y'know, this whole long and very nasty history of the power white women have abused black men with. I mean, it's a thing and it still very much exists, so just wanna point out this very obvious long running and very well documented example of how manhood is not a privilege separate from other factors like race.

Like there is patriarchal oppression but I'm struggling here to understand how manhood alone exists as a sole determining factor of being granted patriarchal privilege or being oppressed by it. Not because manhood doesn't do that, but because you can't just lay out patriarchy in a vacuum divorced from all other systems of oppression.

So like, yeah, you can access male privilege as a trans man, yeah, but only so long as you also submit yourself to patriarchal oppression, only so long as you allow yourself to be caged by it.

I guess it turns out that privilege and oppression is kinda complicated and just like saying that if we talk about manhood or masculinity or whatever you wanna call it in any complex way, if you just say that's MRA talking points it feels super oversimplified to me? Or just being like "manhood = privilege" like okay but also it's still complicated? Like it doesn't always? I don't know, maybe I'm just way too old and know way too many different people and hear about way too many different experiences because of being so fuckin old I guess but I just can't see the nuance in reducing the entirety of wealth and class and race and religion and etc to "manhood gives me privilege."
