Every single year on Mothers day, international Womens day and Gertrud’s birthday, Oswald posts a picture of her with the caption ‘it’s her day’

This becomes a trend in gotham to mock him. he can’t decide if it’s good (because his mother is getting recognised) or bad (he is being made fun of.)

Sooooo are we gonna talk about how growing up Oswald was definitely a chubby kid, a kid with hints of accent he picked up from his mother, a kid trying to learn the english everyone else at school was using but also the language his mother used when she got to angry or spoke to herself, a kid that wanted to grab and cling to roots his mother was pulling him away from and the idea of a father he thought was long gone? Like actually can we talk about how heavily he must have been bullied and called a penguin to the point he delights in hurting others (referring to the first episode) how kids would probably egg him on to get him in trouble and girls would ask him out as a joke or dare from friends? How he tried so hard and desperately to prove himself first by learning english and then good grades and then anything else so people would like him, and probably only began to loose weight when he realized his mother needed the food more then him (according to him, ask her and it be the other way around). How many jobs he probably got and tried to get before working for Mooney to help support his mother, always finding ways to give her all or most of his paychecks? How the only way people liked him was when he groveled at their feet. The way he people and bird watched interchangeably because that was the closest he got to being apart of those interactions his peers enjoyed? Are we just not gonna talk about that orrrr-?

riddler design stuff for the insane gotham universe that lives in my head, more content below the cut!!!

-Ed is a liguistics major at GCU, but they also have learned multiple languages as part of their upbringing.

-they took a particular interest in their professor Kristen Kringle, who is much more interested in their work and much kinder to them than both other professors and other students. They take any extra chance they can to be in her classroom or in her presence, even if they know she thinks of them as nothing more than a particularly bright student.

-Due to trying to save money to leave their tumultuous living situation, they work some odd jobs for Ms. Gertrude Kapelput, AKA the Penguin, and the owner of the Iceburg Lounge. They got the job per professor Kringles recommendation. Eds main tasks are hacking into chatlogs and private servers owned by penguins enemies and unscrambling whatever codewords or codes they use to communicate incognito. The job also sometimes involves translating things from other languages.

-Ms. Kapelput, despite being a hardass, actually quite likes Ed, and sees a lot of potential in how he can help her run the underworld. Ed is still very bright-eyed and naive, but is still very troubled. After all, hes still willing to decode what she needs without blinking an eye at the horrifying shit they have to read, and tend to just be enthusiastic about getting to solve a puzzle. Kapelput has an interest in using that to her advantage to get Ed as her right hand man.

-Because penguin both likes and trusts Ed, she often calls them to her personal residence to help with whatever important information just came in. Ed doesn't like going to her home when her son, Oswald is around, though.

-Oswald graduated high school a couple years after Ed, and has just been generally freeloading and getting into debauchery since. He and Ed don't quite get along, but its almost exclusively Oswald bothering Ed from their work and trying to get them in trouble for kicks.

Thats all lol. I have a vauge plot in mind, its more of a riddler origin story in a way i guess? Maybe ill post more maybe not idk lol

it is so infuriating when people call gertrud & oswalds relationship emotionally incestuous. it is not at all. and then people hate on her JUST for that and ignore the fact that she got some poor girls family deported bc she was mean or some shit 💀 there are bigger issues with gertrud than the "emotional incest" people claim to see

its common in other cultures to be more affectionate towards ones own children, maybe more affectionate than what common western "standards" say is normal. my partner is from an immigrant family and her grandmother acts just like gertrud. it is a cultural thing.

also she literally got someone deported ? and people forget this all the time like WHAT!!!

oswald was just a mamas boy that grew up in a culture different than others. that is all. its not incest.
