History of the Haitian Flag 🇭🇹🇭🇹 —————— The first purely Haitian flag was adopted on 18 May 1803, on the last day of the Congress of Arcahaie, Haitian lore holds that the newly appointed revolutionary leader Jean-Jacques Dessalines created the flag by taking a French tricolor and ripping out the white center, which he discarded. He then asked Catherine Flon, his god-daughter, to sew the remaining bands together. The white pale removed, the blue was taken to represent Haiti's black citizens and the red the gens de couleur. . . After the overthrow of Emperor Faustin-Élie Soulouque in 1859, Haiti remained under the blue-red flag until Franc̦ois (“Papa Doc”) Duvalier came to power. He spoke of a “black revolution” for the nation and in 1964 altered the national flag to the black-red vertical stripes that had been used by Faustin-Élie, King Henry I, and Emperor Jacques I. Duvalier was succeeded by his son, Jean-Claude (“Baby Doc”), but the latter was forced to flee the country in 1986. As of February 25 of that year the old blue-red flag was reestablished. . . The coat of arms of Haiti was originally introduced in 1807, and has appeared in its current form since 1986. The coat of arms consists of a palm tree surmounted by a liberty cap and flanked by flags, rifles, hatchets, cannon, anchors, masts. The motto “L’Union fait la force” (“Union makes strength”) is also included. . . . The name Haiti (or Hayti) comes from the indigenous Taíno language which was the native name given to the entire island of Hispaniola to mean, "land of high mountains." ————- #haitianflag #haitianheritagemonth #haitianhistory https://www.instagram.com/p/CPAtNKagsGB/?utm_medium=tumblr

#drapeau #drapeauhaitien #drapeaux #haitianflagday #haitianflag #poesie #haitian #haiti #haiti🇭🇹 #haïti #haitianfood #haitianart #haitianpoet #haitianpoem #haitianculture #amour #followfollow #followme #like #love #followformore https://www.instagram.com/p/CPBN6JTBnjd/?utm_medium=tumblr

••• Bonjour ….. #Haitians are PART of America’s history Our USA would NOT be possible ONLY with General George Washington & the Continental Army, WE earned our “Independence” with allies (friends), Native Americans tribes, the Kingdom of #France troops AND, also their colonial troops “ #Black #African” troops (Chasseurs-Volontaires) from Saint Domingue, present day #Haiti. • • #ChasseursVolontaires did serve on the front line, the 545-strong force providing cover for their French allies during the Siege of Savannah in 1779. • • There is a memorial in the USA, thanking them for their military service at Haitian Monument, in Savannah’s Franklin Square, recognizes the contribution of the all-Black Chasseurs-Volontaires de Saint-Domingue to the fight for American independence. • • Although they had been enlisted to occupy an auxiliary role, the Chasseurs-Volontaires did serve on the front line, the 545-strong force providing cover for their French allies during the Siege of Savannah in 1779. • • The Chasseurs-Volontaires de Saint-Domingue were all volunteer soldiers, ten companies of light infantry recruited from amongst the free men of color, as they were then termed, in the former French colony of Saint-Domingue (now Haiti). • • The men were enlisted as a special expeditionary force, part of a contingent of French troops brought into the southern theater of the Revolutionary War under the command of the French general Charles Hector, the comte d’Estaing, to reinforce the flagging American side. • • The Chasseurs-Volontaires was the largest Black regiment to serve in the War of Independence and the largest military unit to serve in the Siege of Savannah. 545 soldiers landed in the city for the 1779 battle, around a third of the French force that sailed from the Caribbean to Savannah’s rescue. • #SavannahGA #Creole #HaitianFlag #Savannah #NewOrleans #PortAuPrince #DominicanRepublic #Dominican #French #Paris #Quebec #Montreal #Bonjour #france🇫🇷 #francia #Soccer #soccerlife #soccergirl #SoccerGirl #Jersey #Louisiana #AfricanAmerican #BlackLivesMatter American History (at HAITI cheri) https://www.instagram.com/p/CYbmIg7O-kW/?utm_medium=tumblr

At least 50 people are dead in Haiti’s second largest city after an explosion involving a fuel tanker, a deputy mayor of Cap-Haitien confirmed to the Miami Herald. “We’ve already counted more than 50 dead,” Deputy Mayor Patrick Almonor said. “We also have a number of people who are injured and have been taken to the hospital.” The explosion, which reportedly injured at least 100, occurred late Monday in the Samaria area, at the eastern entrance to the city of Cap-Haitien. Haiti Prime Minister Ariel Henry, a physician, said he was deploying help to the historic city. He immediately announced three days of national mourning will be decreed throughout the territory in memory of the victims of the tragedy. Henry also was en route to the city, where authorities were still trying to determine the existent of the disaster in the crowded city where homes are built in close proximity to one another. Almonor, the deputy mayor, said the truck capsized. Afterward residents grabbed containers to start filling them up with the spilled fuel. But the fuel would also find its way into residents home, and creating an explosion. “Firefighters took turns trying to contain the blaze. For more than three clock hours, the flames were visible in almost every corner of the city,” the Nouvelliste reported. The tragedy is the latest incident involving fuel to hit Haiti. Last month gangs created a fuel shortage in the country after blocking tankers’ access to the ports in the capital where the boats docking the fuel arrive. And while fuel has returned to pumps , some cities outside of the capital still do not have access to fuel. —Jacqueline Charles, Miami Herald Follow @inkagnedotv ⁣ .⁣ .⁣ .⁣ .⁣ .⁣ #ayiticherie #blackownedbusiness #china #coronavirus #dj #equality #haiti #haitianblogger #haitianbusinesses #haitiancomedy #haitianflag #haitiangirls #haitianstar #haitianwomen #haitian🇭🇹 #haitien #hmi #konpa #kreyolhaiti #lgbtq #paradise #pimpnewstv #protest #puertorico #puntacana #republicadominicana #rutshelle #sakpase #visithaiti #welcometohaiti https://www.instagram.com/inkagnedotv/p/CXeHop8JJHe/?utm_medium=tumblr
