I am so happy to be a part of the #QueerBookstagrammerTour again this year!

Leave it to me to wait until the last minute to get photos for this and then not be able to choose which to use. 😂 I picked a few of my favorite queer books to feature. Books that spoke to me on some level or were just incredibly fun reads. I'm happy to answer any questions!

Some facts about me:

• I'm panromantic asexual, but generally say I'm queer

• Rom-coms are my comfort genre, both books and movies

• I live in Texas with my partner of 8 years and our two cats, Obi and Winston (swipe to slide 4 to see Winston)

• I'm neurodivergent (most likely auDHD)

• I've gotten back into manga collecting after being bullied out of it in high school

• Audiobooks have absolutely CHANGED my reading game. The trauma of the pandemic sadly obliterated my attention span for most physical books

• Most of what I read these days is queer in some way

January 2024 Reading Roundup

Hello world of 2024 welcome to my personal journal where i just recount how my month went while also providing my reading list. In the past I just listed each book in the order I read them but this year I'm going to try different formats and see which I like best. So lets begin:

How to describe January? January is the month of my birth so happy 28th to me. January is the month I finally started the process for HRT so I hope that everything goes well without issues. January is the month that I got the news that I am moving far far far away from my family and finally getting a little bit of freedom. January is also the month that marked 100 days (and counting) of the genocide of the Palestinians. 100+ days of inaction of world leaders who decided to side with greed, with colonialism, and with imperialism. just read i hear the sunspot, it was alright, i wish it focused more on the main characters, but the last book i read (limit 3) the author said they were going to have more lovey scenes so when i read the next book i'm hoping that will be the case (: i just feel like everytime they interacted they either argued or an outside source interrupted the moment. the only times they even had a "moment" was arguments or saying i'm sorry after the argument. i dunno i just want them to be happy T-T

How do you decide if you're going to read a book or not?

For me, the type of rep is a big indicator on if I want to read it or not. I definitely find myself reading fewer and fewer straight white books because there are so many more readily available options. Take this book, for example.

I Hear the Sunspot is a manga series about two boys: Kohei, who has a hearing disability and trouble integrating with his peers, and Taichi, an outgoing and cheerful guy who never met a stranger. They strike a friendship under unlikely circumstances, but is there more brewing?

I am glad to be seeing more disability rep in manga that don't romanticize the disability. I first learned about this series on tiktok. It had me interested initially because it's queer, but then had me sold on hearing disability rep. Hearing loss runs in my family pretty heavily, and I'm always happy to see it included in books more. Some of my other favorites are:

• The Whispering Dark by Kelly Andrew

• A Quiet Kind of Thunder by Sara Barnard

I paired the 3rd volume of the series (and the 1st of Limit) with the bisexual books coasters from @rainbowcratebookbox's December '22 Beautifully Bisexual crate. I use them all the time and probably more than any other box item.

hello! i just finished the entire i hear the sunspot series!!! i really enjoyed the last volume of limit. their little trip together at the end was super cute!! this was a great series ^^

it really is so sweet!!! i particularly like the different viewpoints on accommodating hard of hearing people versus Deaf people, i thought that was really eye-opening and interesting. how the romance is impacted by that was well-done i think

Hello! How’s everyone’s week going?

This week I’m going to be reading Obnoxious Hero-Kun (which you can read for free on the Tapas app!) it’s soooo good and I’m super excited for this reread since I just got these books and the series just finished.

No matter how excited I am for OHK, my main focus will be Scarlet for my book club with @books-take-flight. We’re reading the second third of the book, and I’m curious about grand-mére and Wolf and how Cinder is going to further her goals!

And I’m still trying to finish Sherlock Holmes, but I’m making great progress!! I’m currently reading “The Musgrave Ritual” which is super interesting as one of the focuses is on a butler, so I’m really curious to see how it turns out. I’ve read a few stories since last week and I think my favorite was “The Yellow Face” or “The Stock-Broker’s Clerk”. Yellow Face is much more sentimental than what you’d expect from Sherlock Holmes, but I loved the family story we got. It wasn’t action packed by any means, but I found the husband’s reaction at the end to be heartwarming. And The Stock-Broker was much more of a mystery, centered around a stock-broker with a too good to be true job offer. In his suspicions, he goes to Holmes who is able to clear the air of any mysteries surrounding the job!

The two books I was most excited to read were That Blue Sky Feeling and I Hear the Sunspot. I’ve mentioned both of these several times before, but they deserve the hype so much!!

That Blue Sky Feeling has been on my radar since around the time it got published by Viz and I was thrilled that it met my expectations. Volume 3 was the final volume, and while there are problematic elements (a 26 year old previously dated one of the high school protagonists, for example) this is, in general, a very sweet romance. Noshiro wasnts desperately to not only understand his friend, but the feelings inside of him. It’s very heartwarming and a quick read and I can’t recommend it enough!

And finally, I Hear the Sunspot! I can’t even believe how much I love this series! I almost forced myself to buy it and didn’t really want to read it. But I’m SO glad I did! I can’t get enough of Kohei and Taichi’s relationship! They go through the highs and lows of a relationship together and struggle to learn how to care for each other without smothering the other. Taichi wants to learn how to better understand Kohei’s inability to hear. But Kohei doesn’t want to be babied, or for his disability to get in the way of their time together. I love them so much, and scoured the Internet after I finished to make SURE there was going to be another volume (there is!) because I couldn’t believe that the series would end on this note. Go read I Hear the Sunspot, you won’t regret it!!
