Misunderstanding
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Summary; Your boyfriend and his band are hosting a Halloween themed show for the holiday. Things are going well until Eddie suddenly decides that he wants to fuck his girlfriend on stage.
Warnings: voyeurism, Creaming, penetrative sex, Cockwarming?, Spitting, Humiliation, Mean!Eddie, Overstimulation? Eddie plays the drums in this sorry.
You sway your hips to the beat of the current song that your boyfriend was playing. You were dressed in a short dress that went along with Eddie's outfit because he wanted to match.
He kept meeting your eye throughout the whole night and you could tell he was becoming more and more impatient throughout the songs that he was playing. The song came to an end and you heard “We're going to be taking a quick break and then we'll be back guys.” Your boyfriend said through his microphone putting his sticks down.
Some people let out a whine as they didn't want the band to stop playing and others took the time to get something to drink or use the bathroom. His bandmates took this time to go catch some groupies that were eyeing them all night so it was just the two of them left on the stage.
“Come up here baby” You had a little smile on your face as you had your way up on the stage. He pushed his chair back with a lustful look in his eyes. As soon as you made it close enough to him and cupped your face into his hand and slammed his lips into yours.
Letting out a small whimper Eddie lets out a deep groan with finally being able to feel his lips on your moving in sync like waves in the ocean. He detaches your lips and attaches them to your neck letting his tongue roam your neck he lets his hands travel to your legs and lets his hand creep under your dress. He uses his pointer finger to feel the dampness collecting in your panties.
In a hurry he pulls them off and puts them to his nose, his eyes rolling into the back of his head when he smells your essence on them. “Fuck you are so perfect baby, I just want to take you right now”
You let out a small chuckle that he took as you mocking him. He quickly wrapped his huge hands around your neck causing the air from your lungs to disappear. He was about to say something until one of his managers came in.
“You guys can finish up later, the next set is starting” Eddie takes this with a grain of salt and moves one of his hands to your cheeks squeezing your lips together your lips are now in a pout. “Open your slutty mouth now” you try to open your mouth as much as his hand would allow Eddie to move closer to your face and let a glob of spit travel onto your tongue.
It feels like it travels down your throat and you swallow it. He rubs his thumb on your cheek before you feel a sharp pain on it making your head be forced to the other side. The pain hurt but it turned you on and actually put a smile on your face. Your boyfriend wasn't mean to you for no reason. He genuinely thought that you were making fun of him (which you weren't) but you're not going to tell him that you liked him when he would mean like this.
Someone clears their throat and you try to scramble off the stage forgetting that someone was still there but Eddie grabs your waist. “No you don’t, you're going to sit on my cock during the rest of this performance since you think this shit is funny.”
He drags you over to his drum set unbuckling his black pants and taking his cock out of his boxers. You could already tell he was hard just by looking at him and he grabs your wrist. Rubbing the shaft he rubs it against your pussy for a couple of moments before slamming his cock into bullying his thick cock into a tight pussy you let out a loud gasp feeling his cock fully stretch your walls out.
Tears sprung in your eyes as you didn't have any time to adjust. Eddie's bandmates were already making their way up the stage not even batting an eyelash when they saw you sitting on your boyfriend's lap. Before you could say something or even protest everyone started flooding the doors and surrounding the stage.
He picked up his sticks and you closed your eyes to hide the fact that you were in pure bliss right now. He leaned close to the microphone. “I hope you guys don’t mind that I have my lady here with me, you guys know how it can get with them sometimes,” he said and the crowd laughed.
You were trying so hard not to show any kind of emotion but the feeling of thrusting his hips into your stomach was doing so many things to you right now. Looking down you see Eddie's foot pressing down pon the petal to hit the drum as he bounced up and down along to the beat of his music. Looking into the crowd you saw how everyone was enjoying themselves in their costumes under the orange lights in the stadium.
Then as the song picked up going to the chores so did Eddie’s pace. He leans over to your ear “Everyone in this crowd can see how good you're being fucked, How does that feel?” he asked and you said nothing the pleasure you were feeling was way too strong. “Answer me right now before I pull out of you and actually show all these people how hard you're being fucked, sweetheart.”
“It feels good Eds, so fucking good I’m going to cum soon daddy.” The ending of the song was approaching and so was your orgasm. “Cum all over my cock give me everything you got” trying to keep your straight face you turn your face into his shoulder as you felt the knot at the bottom of your abdomen about to snap.
With one last hit of his drums, you cum sinking your teeth into your boyfriend's shoulder to block out your screams Eddie reaches down secretly rubbing your clit and riding out your orgasm, feeling you cream all over his cock clenching your walls around him causing him to cum deep inside you. Suddenly you cry out again as another song begins.
You forgot that that was only the first song of the second set.

There's been some posts around that want Aziraphale to be very badass next season. To show up, lick kick ass and take names in Heaven. There's been reminders about how he's a protector, a guardian and a BAMF, and should really go feral next season.
(Also some posts about how Crowley should do that, but that's not the subjext here. Also some posts about actually licking ass, but also not the subject here.)
And while the action movie and shounen anime fan in me appreciates the visceral satisfaction of that sort of thing, and I don't want anyone to feel guilty about wanting that, another part of me finds the thought incredibly tragic. That the angel who declared himself soft after Gabriel called him a lean mean fighting machine should become one after all. That the angel who threw down his uniform in front of his quartermaster and told him he has no intention of fighting in any war should have to go to war after all.
That's the solution? That the very first being in existence who gave up his sword willingly should pick it up again?
Well. He did already pick it up again one time. In the book to make a hopeless last stand in defense of humans, yes, which is about the only situation where that seems about right, but in the show he took one look at it and decided this could still be solved by talking. Or by threats of not talking, as it were. And it's the show we're talking about here.
And I don't know what the show's solution ultimately will be, but I want it to be, at least in part, because of Aziraphale's softness. His gentleness. The part of him that stops burglaries with baked goods. That deflects aggressive humans at graveyards with politeness, and in the end everyone involved benefits. The part that defiantly remains kind, even if he can be a bit of a bastard.
Or maybe even more than that, I want it to be his humanity. Humanity is infectious. It's a theme of Pratchett. And it's a theme of Good Omens. And it takes so very little. Gabriel and Beelzebub spend only years meeting each other on Earth, and lose their taste for what they live for, what is essentially their only purpose, and find their song (it contains information in a tuneful way, did you know?) Muriel, Heaven's biggest cinnamon roll that they are, couldn't grasp why Aziraphale was so upset about Job's children in the time of Uz, but one look at the world and they're amazed, one book and they're hooked.
Aziraphale knew Adam and Eve only for a few days, and felt so sorry for them after their punishment that he defied God's orders and then lied directly to Her illuminated face about it.
That's what I want to see, I think. The Metatron brought the most human of angels into Heaven by plying him with human drinks like coffee and human desires like love, and I want that to be his undoing. Humanity is infectious, and he's brought that infection to Heaven, and I want it to spread. All of us against them, all of humanity against Heaven (and eventually Hell,) except not quite like Crowley probably thought, because after all these years he still hasn't got the hang of us.
I want people-positive management style. I want the angels to at first be weirded out and maybe mutinous, but then grow to like it. I want them to get to know each other, not as coworkers, not as bees, but as friends. I want them to fall in love while gossiping about the weirdo Supreme Archangel who put up a suggestion box (because that definitely felt like a Foreshadowing, even if only for a joke) and then actually kinda like it, because some of their suggestions were heard and that's actually pretty nice. To be heard. I want them to figure out that they actually like to get some compliments for their work. To figure out that they actually kinda like Aziraphale's leadership style, and maybe resist when he eventually gets replaced for doing something off the wall.
(I may want to watch OFMD's first season again. I admit it.)
I want the angels to do things that spread humanity in them, like the cocoa going down Gabriel's mouth, throat and stomach, doing different things in every place, like Muriel opening a book and finding out it's just like people, and now they love books, and therefore people.
I want them to find their songs.
Maybe the angels also just need some baked goods. (Aziraphale had to miracle in the cherries.)
Maybe Aziraphale accidentally brings the six shot espresso Crowley angrily shoved at him during their latest attempt to talk with him, and someone tries it and likes it, and Aziraphale gives them permission to visit Earth to get more because why not, and it spreads, and the world doesn't end because where would the Heavenly Host get their coffee, and all of Heaven chooses coffee rather than death, because people are so predictable, aren't they, Metatron?
Maybe Muriel brings up a book and someone borrows it and it becomes this whole thing and they have to bring up even more books, and the angels don't want to destroy the Earth because they gotta know the end of some trilogy or another, and who knows, maybe GRRM will finish A Song of Ice and Fire after all, and Aziraphale indirectly saves the world not by being a badass, but by being the world's biggest book nerd, and okay, the bookshop didn't last forever, but it's okay, nothing does.
Maybe when there's a choice to watch something other than the Sound of Music, because the Supreme Archangel brought up some new films in the hopes of being able to watch literally anything else... the angels choose. And keep choosing. Because once you start, you can't stop, even if it starts with something small like "What should we watch today?", because humanity is infectious. Maybe they choose to taste ox, or sushi. Maybe they listen to something not by Liszt or Elgar. Maybe they'll have a look at a cup of tea.
I just don't want it to be Aziraphale's masterplan that goes off without a hitch. Or Crowley's. When have their plans ever solved anything? Their big plan wasn't enough to fool all the archangels that these were Job's new children, they only got away with it because of Aziraphale's status as an angel, and because Gabriel considered him beneath suspicion. Crowley's plan to fool Hell into thinking he only did a good thing because of being high on Laudanum didn't fool Hell, or Aziraphale, or anyone. And their plan to stop the Armageddon? We know all about that. The only successful plan they've ever had was given to them by Agnes Nutter.
Besides, seems like they're gonna be busy with Jesus, anyway.
I dunno. I'm rambling, and Gaiman's a much better writer than I am. But Heaven isn't toxic because angels, or even archangels, are inherently bad. We've seen that. It's more that it's a soulless corporate machine. I've heard the opinion that the book was more the absurdity of the Cold War, and the show is more capitalism is bad, and if so, I feel like the solution should reflect that. Putting Aziraphale in charge cannot solve that problem because they will always find some other schmuck to put in charge, same as they did with Gabriel.
But if the army doesn't show up because it doesn't want to fight? If everyone, not just Gabriel, says nah to the Apocalypse? If they just... don't show up to work?
(Alternatively, I guess they could eat the archangels. Put that gluttony of Aziraphale's to good use.)

Hi, I'm genuinely curious why you have called Elsa "abusive sister"? What's your, as an Anna lover, main take on Elsa?
Context for my comment.
Realizing on a reread that you asked for an Elsa analysis and I kinda made it an Anna one. They're entwined, though -- it's hard to talk about one without the other, especially when the first question is why call Elsa abusive? The short answer is I was being very reductive in that post for the sake of brevity. The tag directly after is me saying in a quick, off-the-cuff way that Elsa's not wrong:
#see: Anna of Arendelle #suffering is good! #filial loyalty should trump logic! #dying for your abusive sister is good! #Elsa obviously has her own issues but from Anna’s pov?
Believe me when I say that I can go full Elsa apologist very easily. Send a second ask if you want to see that, actually, I do have a lot of Elsa Thoughts. The thing is, there's a ton of Elsa fans out there and Anna tends to get the short end of the stick, despite being - in my opinion - the better sister, and not for nothing, but I think Elsa would agree that Anna is a better sister.
The tragedy of Frozen is that Elsa isn't wrong to isolate herself and try to keep Anna safe, and Anna isn't wrong to sense her sister still wants to connect and try to make it happen. That's what makes it tragic. Anna's desperate attempt to reconnect at the party is what makes Elsa balk, and Elsa balking is what pushes Anna away into the arms of someone who isn't afraid to tell her she's wanted. (Of course, Hans isn't afraid because wanting her won't kill her the way Elsa is pretty sure wanting a sister will.) Anna coming back from a whirlwind of having fun - having a friend - for the first time in years and telling Elsa she wants to get married freaks Elsa out, because Elsa's about to lose her sister to some stranger! Elsa tries to get the situation under control the only way she knows, which is to get away from everyone and self-soothe, but Anna is fed up and presses the argument then and there, which sets Elsa off and reveals the depths of Elsa's problems.
But critically, Anna's not wrong, and she's not stupid.
A major theme of Anna's character is that nothing is explained to her, and she is mistreated as a result. We, the audience, understand why Elsa locks herself away. We, the audience, skip over literal years of isolation for Anna in a three-minute song. We, the audience, see Elsa's anxiety when alone or with her parents. Anna, on the other hand ... to pull from the musical, which I admittedly like more than the film:
ANNA: ... Truth is, I never knew why my parents ordered the gates shut, why the celebrations ended, or why Elsa stopped talking to me. All I ever knew was, I missed my sister. I spent years trying to figure out what I did. I begged to know, to understand, but all my parents would say is, it’s for the best.
Anna blames herself for the fact Elsa locked herself away, and Elsa does not, as far as we see in the story, disabuse Anna of that notion. Sure, you can argue it happens offscreen somewhere after the show, and I'd agree that the arc of Frozen means the girls are going to sit down and realize their parents kinda sucked and gave them both trauma, but that happens after. (Frozen 2 doesn't exist in my head. I don't hold with anything that doesn't admit their parents fucked up big time. The best you can say is they tried to help their daughter, and that is tragic too, that nobody was able to help them do it.)
From Elsa's point of view, she ran away and Anna followed - against Elsa's advice and orders. Elsa felt confident enough to let her sister in and talk about things -- and Elsa couldn't handle it. She shot Anna in the heart as a result, putting them exactly back where they were when they were kids and Elsa was the biggest danger to her sister. Elsa was right to be afraid of intimacy, she was right to protect Anna from herself. The biggest danger to Anna was always Elsa.
This verges into Hans apologism, but we're focused on the girls so stick with me: Elsa literally kills Anna in the story. Hans is a big asshole about this little, "If only there was someone out there who loved you," speech, but he didn't kill Anna. Elsa did. If Elsa hadn't shot Anna in the heart, Anna would not be dying now. If Hans was going to kill Anna, that would've been the place -- and instead he leaves her to die of the wound her sister gave her.
So how does Anna feel in that moment? Narratively, we focus on the fact Hans has been the biggest dick lately, so she's heartbroken by that, but I'd posit she's been let down by the two people she thought might want her: Elsa and Hans. At this point Anna was probably thinking she could get cured and maybe that she and Hans would fix this together.
Instead, her unending faith in her sister should have brought her to this conclusion: Elsa killed her, Hans refused to save her, and they've both abandoned her for dead. In the film, Elsa - by proxy - throws Anna off a cliff right after shooting her in the heart. She could not be more clear about locking Anna out. Hans locked her in, but all to the same effect: Elsa's curse is going to kill her.
Does it really matter why Elsa cursed her?
When I say Elsa is an abusive sister, I mean that from Anna's point of view, Elsa lashes out and hurts Anna because of her own pain. We, the audience, have the benefit of knowing why - but we, the audience, also aren't feeling our fingers freeze solid as our jaw locks up with ice, so maybe we're not getting the full effect there.
Frozen's magic system is simple: magic and emotion are the same thing. (Frozen 2 do not interact.) Elsa's powers are driven by emotion, and they can be driven to great heights or great lows. The tragedy is that she doesn't learn to channel positive emotions, so she only knows fear and anxiety, which spiral out of control as those emotions always do. That fear isn't irrational - she's afraid for her sister, she's afraid for her country, she's afraid to let people down - but it is damaging and uncontrollable.
It literally kills her sister.
Anna dies, not because she threw herself under the sword and got diced, but because she turns to ice. She dies because of Elsa's curse, which ironically saves her from being killed in a bloody way. In that moment, Elsa sees her worst fears come true: she killed her sister. In the musical, she sings:
Anna? Anna - no! This is what I feared, this is why I shut you out so long ago. I'm sorry, I'm so sorry ... Look at what I've done to you.
As she realizes this, the magic begins to undo itself, not because Elsa realized the depth of her fuck up but because Anna committed an act of true love. Anna is brought back to life miraculously by her own self-sacrifice because it was pure and selfless. Which is why my final tags were:
#the narrative posits that [Anna's] suffering was good #actually. #and wanting things for herself was Bad actually
Wanting Hans, the seeming first person to value her, was wrong. Throwing herself under the sword for the sister who ignored her until she murdered her was good. In a meta sense, Anna wanting something for herself was wrong, and being blindly loyal was good. She is literally rewarded by being brought back from the dead to be a continuing loyal companion to the woman who shot her in the heart.
At the end of the day, the fact Elsa feels terrible about this both makes no difference and makes all the difference in the world. Elsa has been awful to Anna, and her being able to recognize that is what makes their relationship so compelling. The fact Elsa is also abused is important; she was locked away from society just as much! While Anna was so neglected by their parents that she spoke to paintings, Elsa was being told to just get better, keep it inside and don't freak out. Like many abused people, when Elsa grows up, she doesn't know how to form a healthy relationship at first. Her first fumbling steps end in disaster, and as musical Elsa begs:
This is all so brand new Let me first learn to crawl Before I try to walk
On one hand, that doesn't matter, because Elsa did abuse Anna for a period of time, via neglect and outright harm, up to and including murder. On the other hand, it matters more than anything, because Elsa chooses love, chooses to reconnect, finds true regret and wants to be better. Anna forgives her, because she loves her.
It's what makes the bones of this story so tragic and compelling. The love is real and the hurt is real. The difference is that both sisters choose to move past it, and I can see there being a good ending where they repair their sisterly relationship.
But for the duration of the story, and the near-decade before? Anna was abused by everyone in her family, and Elsa has to take responsibility for that before they can begin to heal.

Only Friends Episode 8 music part 1/2
Save Me
Here we go, still doing this, even though I did take a break after episode 12.
Quick recap, music is used in three different ways:
Just background music (Background) - It’s important and creates an atmosphere, like using Disco Frog for Mew and Cheum’s chat at the bar. These I will not use unless I see a theme or something important later.
Playing with Music (Playful) - It’s like body language, the music will pause, start up, move along faster or slower. It's intentionally moving with what is happening on screen.
Verbal/Vocal - Music that is telling us things. It could be songs that have names that seem important or have lyrics that may or may not be in the show. If there are lyrics I will include them, but will specify if they are in OF, and where they start and stop.
Master List here, in my pinned post. These will be long and split into parts, mostly because of lyrics and Music players.

Song: Brings back the feeling by Daniel Gunnarsson Scene: Mew and Ray dance at bar Type: Vocal
Lyrics in show:
I'm turning back time Just to see it all again When I know if I'm alright, ooh It's not easy to find What I'm lookin' for in the end I just wanna know what I'm about It goes up then turns back down We're all lookin' for the moment when Getting used to not knowing when or how All the pieces fall in line, oh I keep searching for signs of my dreams back then And I don't know how to stop 'cause It brings back them feelings That I can reach the top now Even if I don't know how It brings back them feelings That even if it all goes down In the end I'll be alright It brings back them feelings It brings back them feelings This violet sky I have seen it before It turns truth into lies, oh But I won't back down Imma stay on this road I gotta know what I'm about
Starts playing as we see Ray and Mew dancing in the bar. They’re turning back time to see if maybe they should have tried to make it work. Though again, you can’t force love, and Mew is also trying to feel something other than pain and heartache. Ray can’t let this go, this is what he wanted for two years, isn’t it?
This violet sky I have seen it before It turns truth into lies, oh But I won't back down Imma stay on this road I gotta know what I'm about
During this song both Ray and Mew are searching for the feelings they once had. For Mew, he is trying to replicate how Top made him feel, surely it can’t be that different with Ray, Ray who has stood by him all this time? While Ray is trying to get back his feelings for Mew, but he already has begun to let go of those feelings while sitting in a bathtub staring at the poor boy shirt. Both of them are trying to feel what they think they should. Yet it doesn’t feel right, Mew doesn’t feel anything and Ray can’t figure out where Mew is supposed to fit in his world. Ray then leaves Mew and the uncertainty to go searching for his true heart.
Lets go back to EP1 for a second:

Song: Cry My Heart Out by Suffer City Scene: EP1 Ray and Sand outside the bar Type: Vocal
No lyrics in show:
Smoking rooms Wherever you are It’s just about closing time Didn’t we Just wanna go Putting the world on the line Help me go back Nobody waits I just wanna cry My heart out This one last time Misery Is taking me home Ever since the day you left Didn’t we Almost find out What this life was all about Just help me go back Cuz nobody waits Days floating by It all feels the same I just wanna cry My heart out This one last time Didn’t we Just wanna go And put the world on the line Help me go back Nobody waits Days floating by It all feels the same I just wanna cry My heart out This one last time One last time
This song is from Episode 1, but there are parallels between the scene with Sand and Ray outside YOLO in Ep1 and Ep8. In Ep1, Ray asks for a lighter, and is refused because Sand was mad about Ray accusing him of stealing. Ray retorts, “Why are you upset, you’re sulking like we’re boyfies.” Ray grabs Sand’s arm to stop him from going, and sincerely apologies again. The song starts as Sand lights Ray’s cigarette.

Episode 1, Cry my heart out
Tumblr media
Episode 8
In contrast, the EP8 scene has a different song, but Cry out My Heart seems to reflect where Sand and Ray’s relationship is in Ep8. Visually it’s similar to EP1, but the camera is pointed towards the bar, and Ray is in front of the no drinks sign. Sand’s wearing the same coat, but with a shirt that says “war” under it. Ray has traded his loud shirt for one that looks like the one Sand picked out for him. The marks of their relationship are on them. Ray stands there awkwardly holding Sand’s lighter. In Ep8, Sand looks like he’s been crying, or at least, is about to cry. Ray’s with Mew, and everything that has brought them to this point seems to “be a waste of time.”
Just help me go back Cuz nobody waits Days floating by It all feels the same I just wanna cry My heart out This one last time
When Ray grabs Sand to keep him from leaving, Sand says “Let me go, already” Sand wants to cry one last time and move on. He knows he wouldn’t be able to be around Ray and “just be friends.”
And now back to EP8:
Tumblr media
Song: Hollywood nights by Courses Scene: Ep8 Sand and Ray talk outside bar Type: Vocal
Lyrics in show:
Livin’ on the far side of town Sharing the dream with anyone She’s made it through heaven She’s made it through hell It’s just another story to tell Have you ever felt You’re missing the dream Have you ever wished your life Was like the movie on the screen Filled with heartbreaks and fights Through Hollywood nights Makin’ up a bar queen On the phone
Lyrics continue, not in the show:
In the great big boulevard The place she belongs It’s just another story she tells Have you ever felt You’re missing the dream Have you ever wished your life Was like the movie on the screen Filled with heartbreaks and fights Through Hollywood nights
Back in episode 8, the song starts as Ray comes out to see Sand outside the bar and asks for a lighter. Ray attempts to talk to Sand and like nothing is wrong, trying to bridge the gap between them. Sand’s feeling like he’s going through hell, broken, but unable to fully tell Ray to back off. He tries to scold Ray, but Ray brushes it off quickly.
From cry my heart out, the song from Ep1:
Misery Is taking me home Ever since the day you left Didn’t we Almost find out What this life was all about
And here, from Hollywood Nights:
She’s made it through heaven She’s made it through hell It’s just another story to tell
They’ve both gone through heaven and hell, their relationship might as well be just a story, a thing of the past. They almost had it all figured out, but as Sand says, it all seems like a waste of time.

Song: Vast lands by Enigmatic Scene: Sand talks about Mew Type: Vocal
Plays as Ray says he feels happy when he's with Sand, Sand says Ray will be happy with Mew. Ray asks if they can still be friends, Sand says he has no reason to be friends. "This whole relations ship is a waste of time."
Vast Lands and a crushing sadness, trapped and paralyzed by Ray. After Ray grabs Sand's arm to stop him from leaving, Sand asks him to physically and metaphorically to “let me go.”
Tumblr media
Song: Ray of Hope by Magnus Ringblom Scene: Yo and Plug break up Type: Vocal, Background
Last time this was played was in EP2, when Mew comes to see Ray by the hostel’s pool and they talk about Mew and his feelings towards Top. It was the beginning of Ray letting go of the hope he had for Mew. Here, In EP8, Sand and Ray follow Yo’s voice and find Yo and Plug arguing, Plug wants to move in with Yo, to take their relationship seriously. But it’s made Yo step back, She isn’t ready to move forward, she’s been hurt too many times in the past. Sand and Ray are both in the same situation, they both are scared. “If you think nobody in this world wants to get serious with you, then you better stay alone.”
Or, it could be that Mew in Ep2 was brave, ready to try to follow his feelings, without the experience to be cautious. Yo has been hurt many times before Plug, and is now too scared to move forward. And as a result, Yo is losing what she has.
Tumblr media
Song: Twisted Metal by Jon Bjork Scene: Top sees Ray giving Mew cigarettes Type: Background
Song starts as Top sees Ray giving Mew cigarettes and decides to try to talk to Mew. It might feel like a knife twisting into Top’s side seeing Mew be self destructive. Song is used again later with Boston and Nick, who are also in pain.
Tumblr media
Song: Is This Serenity by Ambientalism Scene: Top confronts Mew in the bathroom Type: Vocal
The transition from twisted metal to Serenity seems to reflect Top’s change of tactics with Mew, he stops focusing on his own pain and focuses on Mew. Top asks if Ray is what Mew really wants, if Mew being with Ray is making him happy. Has Mew found serenity in his relationship with Ray?

Song: Move ไปไหน (Unmovable) by BRIGHT VACHIRAWIT Scene: Sand practicing a song in the school's music room Type: Vocal
Lyrics Sand sings:
Where could I move on to, my heart is set on you How many times I try to move forward…
Full Lyrics(translated):
I don’t know how long it has been since the time stopped in my heart I don’t know what I should do to make it restart I know that I should forget but my brain persists to remember Although I know what I should do but I’m just not able to Move on That’s what everybody’s telling me Move on I’ve heard it all before Simple words that are so difficult Where could I move on to, my heart is set on you How many times I try to move forward, I end up going backward I’ve tried to move on but no matter how hard I try I move in circles because my heart can’t be moved even a little I’ll keep on moving on I know I have to keep going, life has many more things to offer But forgetting someone may not be as simple as you’d imagine To get you off my mind is not the same as just hitting delete I need some time for the wound to heal a bit
Sand’s trying to move on, but can’t. He’s stuck, running in circles. Sand’s playing is unsteady, and maybe is practicing this song for the first time. He stumbles over the line “How many times I..” as Ray walks in. How can he move on when Ray is here, asking for help. He doesn’t know how to play the song or how to forget Ray. So a circle is all he has until their relationship gives him a way to move forward.
Tumblr media
Song: Lords of the land by Xavy Rusan Scene: Sand and Ray in the music room Type: Vocal
Last time this played was when Nick dragged Boston into Sand’s apartment in Ep5. Boston had decided to stay with Nick, and it gave Nick confidence that their relationship was moving. Here it starts tentatively, quietly as Ray asks why Sand won’t respond to his messages. It pauses while Ray lists the options he has for community service, and starts again as he leans forward, giving Sand puppy eyes. “Wanna go with me?” Sand pauses for a moment before saying “No, I wasn’t part of your crime.” It’s not a hard no, so Ray gains more confidence, and touches Sands shoulder, poking him in the knee, pleading.
Tumblr media
Song: If and When Eric Feinberg Scene: Sand and Ray in the music room Type: Vocal
It’s a light, happy song that starts as Ray leans forward, telling Sand that “I will tell those kids that you are the hottest singer at our University.” The camera switches and we see Ray hanging off the guitar, staring at Sand. “If and When” Sand’s defenses crumble. If and when is an interesting phrase of potential, hinting at repairing their relationship.
Tumblr media
Song: Out of the woods by Gavin Luke Scene: Cheum and Top talk about Mew Type: Playful
Top says that he’s worried about Mew changing, and the song starts after Cheum yells at Top, “who’s fault is that?” and sits down. She knows that Ray and Mew are not good for each other, and agrees with Top. Piano chords play behind Cheum as they talk, Top is finally out of the woods and finding his way back to Mew.
Tumblr media
Song: Look at me closely by Blue Topaz Scene: Nick and Dan talk about internship Type: Vocal
Last time this song was used was in episode 2, when Top asks Mew if he can stay over after putting together the table. Here, it plays after Nick says he doesn’t have a boyfriend. It seems like Dan is asking Nick to consider him as a possible boyfriend, to consider him. With the reflection of Nick in the laptop screen, we’ve got two versions of Nick. The one Dan wants to see, and the real Nick. During the interview, Nick seems to be the person we assume he is at first, all sweetness and flirty, bright eyed like the poster above him. He wants the job, and Dan is flirting with him, at this moment, it’s a win for Nick.

My Thoughts on Wish
I think I might as well use this account to give extended thoughts on any movies or shows I watch and feature in my media threads on Twitter and BlueSky. I always love going to see movies in the theater so might as well reflect that in more detail. So......Wish.
Tumblr media
I was really excited for this movie when the first trailer dropped because not only do Disney's musical films pretty much knock it out of the park, with the two Frozen films, Moana, and Encanto being standouts for me, but the animation looked positively stunning, bringing back some aspects from films from different eras and mixing it with what they've done well as of recently. So I went to an early screening earlier this month and to be honest, I loved it! Not only were my expectations met, I was captivated by how everything from animation to storytelling to just how charming everything is. For the story, I really liked how it tried to keep the themes and messages up to interpretation and in the background and focused more on the world and character dilemmas similar to films like Aladdin or Mulan. I think you'll get what I'm getting at this since while I love a lot of Disney's recent films, you can kinda tell the messages were driving the characters more (ex. Zootopia, Raya, Encanto). Not that it's a bad thing, mind you, but it's refreshing to see the messages of this movie take a backseat in favor of everything else. Granted while I do think the side characters could've been a lot better (They get the job done but not a lot more), the movie makes up for it with Asha and ESPECIALLY Magnifico.
Asha's a fun lead not just for how charming she can be, but also I like how they try to show how she believes her attempts to help her friends and family actually had a reverse effect in putting them in a worse spot and how she recognizes this and tries to fix any problems she inadvertently created. She makes for someone you can sort of be in the shoes of and understand where she's coming from, and heck even root for by the end. And then there's Magnifico who I think is a massive breath of fresh air as a villain. I really like how they try to make himself seem reasonable on the exterior to the point of him finding some kind of value in Asha, but not sympathetic since his reasoning for keeping the wishes initially not only removed a lot of what can make people special, but I think was driven more out of his desires rather than his willingness to keep peace in Rosas, despite what he tells others and himself. It does legitimately make him caving into those traits and eventually wiping away any good ones he had much more earned and way cooler. He reminds me of Gaston in a way. I also like how that was done too because while some said "Asha has to stop a darkness", the dark power Magnifico uses isn't a spirit possessing him. It's power he legit wanted to us to make sure everything in Rosas goes his way, or as he puts it "Desperate times call for desperate measures". It was legit great to see him become this big threat which is why I got a lot out of other villains from other Disney movies, especially during the Renaissance era. Also, I loved Chris Pine's performance as him. He nailed the tone of every line he was given and was just fun to listen to.
And speaking of that quote, the songs are legit great. Regardless of what Disney film we're talking about, the songs are usually one thing they always get right if it has them. And Wish is no exception. Ok, there's a weird lyric here and there but there's so much attention to detail from tone to melody and they were just so ear-grabbing. I can understand why "This Wish" is considered the highlight of the movie and the breakout song and why it will more than likely be the one submitted for an award. But I got more out of "This is the thanks I get?!" because it legit describes not just how toxic Magnifico is to his people but also his descent into madness and "Knowing what I know now" because I'm a massive fan of songs meant to signify something big that's going to happen like "Make a Man out of You" from Mulan or "Ready as I'll Ever Be" from Rapunzel's Tangled Adventure. Also, Queen Amaya's contribution to the latter was just chef's kiss.
The animation is absolutely phenomenal. This was probably the biggest thing I was excited for and I was dazzled by how the film looked. This is probably the biggest reason why I say "Go see this on the big screen" not just because footage of it from YouTube videos are compressed and can give the wrong impression to several people, but also because the film not just has plenty of detail oozing from the seems but also takes advantage of bringing a lot of tropes from hand-drawn films into 3D that I very rarely saw from most of their other recent films, especially movements so exaggerated you could probably get a smear-frame pause if you look hard enough. I missed a lot of this, but even with that in mind, I love how colorful everything is and there were some shots that could fool me into thinking I was watching a traditional 2D animated film if I squinted my eyes. And you could tell me Star was legit 2D animated and I'd believe you. Which BTW, Star is precious and deserves to be treasured.
I will agree that the film isn't perfect. The side characters could've been a lot better, there's one in particular I thought they'd do more with but they just stop for some weird reason, Valentino, while he occasionally get a laugh, I think could be a lot funnier, but everything else is just so enjoyable I can get over any problems I have. I neglected to mention the references to past Disney films because the films is already so strong, it doesn't really need them. Plus, I think they were reasonably paced, only really getting a bit self-indulgent at the ending when the main conflict is over, though that doesn't excuse blatant misinformation saying Asha and the Fairy Godmother from Cinderella are the same person and Magnifico becomes the Magic Mirror from Sleeping Beauty. I don't understand where they came from or why people bought it. It's a film I'm so happy I saw in a cinema and I think you should too. I hope it does well somewhere even though I hear it had an underwhelming opening, more than likely because of the $200 million budget and Hunger Games recently coming out, but you are seriously missing out by not seeing this. I actually wouldn't mind seeing this in a theater again and I'd even buy a 4K Blu Ray copy first chance I get. Happy 100 years Disney! Here's hoping for a bright future!

Lucid MV discussion
So...1-spoilers (duh). You can watch the Lucid MV here, and I 10,000% recommend you do before reading the rest of this...and these are just ramblings about the theme and ideas that I feel about the MV. I haven't searched out any interviews or anything about the ideas behind it...I'm just going off what I see.
The vibe I got, and one that was echoed by others in a Discord... very much Peter Pan vibes. It's what I thought of right away. The overall story of the video, the visuals, it's all very much classical Peter Pan, with a bit of Faerie prince.
I guess we're going chronologically, because that's what makes sense to me, we start with wide shot of the room where Pornappan is sleeping (that is the actress's name, and it seems weird to just refer to her with no name at all, so we're going with real name, and I'll also just be calling Jeff Jeff).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And we see the open window, with curtains fluttering, which is a visual you will see in many retellings of the Peter Pan story. (This is not, as far as I can tell from a Peter Pan retelling, but it had the vibe, and this post is already gonna take me an hour +.)
Tumblr media
The setting itself is also very western fairytale inspired, from the location and decor of the room, to the costumes. All of it has a traditional English countryside manner type of feel, and I do genuinely wonder when and where it was filmed, as it doesn't necessarily look like my own preconceived notions of Thailand visually.
The initial seeing of Jeff asleep on the floor, reminded me so much of the scene in Hook where Peter remembers seeing Moira for the first time that I had to rewatch it because I thought I might be misremembering.
I wasn't. It's not an exact match by any means, but it very much has the same emotional feeling I think.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Just the general awe of seeing a person so beautiful...which like...yeah.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
As Jeff starts returning to visit Pornappan, the Peter Pan vibe really solidifies for me, he brings her the fruit and the flower and it's all very innocent and sweet, very reminiscent of the thimble-kiss.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
She sort of patches up his injuries, which made me think of Wendy sewing Peter's shadow back on.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And as we go on we see that he stops coming, but we don't know why. In the sort of 'standard' story of Peter Pan, he does return year after year, but eventually Wendy grows up, and she can no longer go with him. What's a very lovely piece of storytelling is how the song's lyrics touch on replaying of memory, and we see that towards the end, Pornappan is remembering their times together as she worries why Jeff hasn't returned.
Tumblr media
Then, it was is a bit of a twist, both on the lyrical content of the song, but also on the 'fairy-tale standard' Pornappan goes to look for him, venturing out and finding Jeff asleep amongst flowers and vines.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The final scene, or piece is Jeff beginning to open his eyes, and Pornappan opening her own, showing that it was all a dream, or at least that last bit was, which is just so bittersweet.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But what ended up being so interesting is that because I thought I remembered the similar scene in Hook with Peter and Moira, I rewatched the whole movie (it's available on Netflix, in the US at least) and our final scene with Tinkerbell when Peter returns from Never Land is this:
Which is very much the emotion and feeling being portrayed by both the song and the video. Now, I wouldn't put it past Jeff to have seen Hook, though it came out a few years before he was born. It is considered a classic for many reasons, and generally in the 1990's western media would take a couple of years to find it's way to the rest of the world, barring outrageously groundbreaking movies, which Hook is not. And since Jeff is bilingual, the chances of him encounter a foreign film like Hook are of course far more likely. So, I find the ideas presented in the MV, and they way they so closely mirror many of the moments of Hook specifically fascinating.
Switching gears for just a moment, I already analyzed the English lyrics of the song, as in the lyrics of the English version (you can read that and an analysis of all his English songs here), but as I was writing this and rewatching the video I notices that the translated lyrics are VERY different. Not so much in content, but more in perspective. Jeff is the speaker in both cases, but in the English lyrics he has been left behind, while in the translated lyrics he is the one who left. This matches up with the MV, where Jeff is a Peter Pan/Fae Prince who has been coming to visit Pornappan, but eventually leaves and doesn't return.
This is a screenshot of both sets of lyrics side by side:
Tumblr media
In the translated lyrics Jeff is talking about knowing their time is brief, it only exists in the moonlight, and he states being afraid that she will forget him in time, that his memory will fade. And he's begging her to keep those dreams close to her heart, so that they won't fade.
But looking at both sets of lyrics it could almost be two sides of the same story. The English lyrics could almost be Pornappan's perspective of what is happening throughout the story of the MV.
Now there's a multitude of reason for the changes between each set of lyrics, the obvious one being that the pretty vast differences between Thai and English necessitate some pretty drastic changes to allow the lyrics to keep with the melody of the song. Totally makes sense. I would very much have to take a look at the difference in his other songs to see what those might reveal, and I honestly might, just because the very concept of bilingual songwriting is fascinating.
But I hope you enjoyed this little deep dive, it got far deeper than I anticipated. About 1100 words...that's 2.5k words on Jeffrey just today. I hope you enjoyed and you may enjoy this gif of some Jeffrey cake. (We don't get a lot of it, he honestly struggle a bit in the cake dept., but we adore him anyway.)

"You brought me breakfast?" "Well you said you always forget to eat before you go to work, so I thought I'd make sure you ate something."
For the prompt!! ♥ —Naff
HI NAFF!!! 👀💕 Oh man I actually have a great idea for this!! (And once again this ended up way longer than I planned so enjoy another huge drabble LMAO)
The Daycare was almost empty, save for a few straggling kids who were settled at a craft table not too far off from you, keeping themselves busy with the plethora of markers, crayons, and other bits of craft supplies that littered the area.
Sun happily sat with them at the table, slightly bouncing along to the Daycare theme song in his criss-cross position, as he watched their little hands scribble furiously on their papers. Occasionally making jokes with over the top gestures and unnatural contortions that were followed by smiles and little giggles. Something you yourself couldn't stop from smiling fondly at as you watched on.
It was the end of the day for them, and they were using the crafts as a means to pass the time while waiting for their parents to arrive to take them home.
Your day, on the other hand, had just begun as you finished making yourself comfortable at the security desk, like always, it seemed these days. A little 'home' away from home in the massive mall-like building.
Pulling out the tablet from one of the drawers, you set it up in front of you before grabbing a little bluetooth keyboard from its case to start typing up your report. It beat trying to type on the screen which always felt like it took too long to write just one sentence. It's not like you needed to be near Sun at the moment anyways so you left him be for now. You could wait until all the kids left before you really got started.
As you were setting up your area, you didn't notice Sun give the children a 'one moment' hand gesture before jumping up and making long, bouncy strides out of your line of view, before bounding over to the security desk from where he'd run off to.
"Hello, Sunshine!"
Startled, you whipped your head up to look at the tall sun-themed animatronic that was leaning eagerly over the desk towards you. You couldn't help laughing nervously at the close proximity. "H-hey there, Sunny! You and the kids doing ok?"
Sun bounced back on his heels to his full height with his ever present smile, giving you a little relief, before clasping his hands in front of him. "Oh, yes yes yes! We're doing just fine with arts and crafts!" His rays excitedly rotating side to side. "But actually, I came over because I have something for you!"
This caught your attention that had previously shifted back to setting things up so you could steady your nerves from Sun's lack of boundaries. You raised an eyebrow as you turned your gaze back up at him. Curiosity completely making you forget your task. "Oh? Whatcha got for me?"
Seemingly out of nowhere Sun pulled out a small box with the 'El Chip's' logo plastered on the top. Showing it off briefly before setting it down in front of you. "I got you this!"
You looked down at the box, then back up at Sun, and once again back down to the box. Gingerly you opened the top to reveal nacho chips with a cup of nacho cheese on the side. "You brought me breakfast?" You were too busy looking at the chips to notice that Sun's demeanor had turned a little south. "Well, you said you always forget to eat before you go to work, so I thought I'd make sure you ate something!" His notorious hand fidgeting started to begin. "It's not the most nutritious, but we don't have a fridge in the Daycare. So hopefully it's ok!"
You looked back up to see the nervous state Sun was putting himself in, feeling a little bad at the lack of immediate positive reaction on your part. "Oh, Sunny, it's more than ok, thank you! That was really thoughtful."
This seemed to help as Sun perked up, his rays doing their little excited dance around his head. "Oh, good good good!" His hands ceased their nervous fidgeting and were back to being clasped in front of him once more.
"I actually really like nachos, so it's a good breakfast to me!" You smiled up at him sincerely though a sudden thought crossed your mind.
"Wait, how did you get these? I thought you weren't allowed to leave the Daycare?"
Sun seemed to stiffen, his rays freezing in place, and he looked as if he'd become a statue. There was a long silence between the two of you before the sound of his voice box cracked to life.
"Well..."

Total Drama Island: Everyone is here! (Well, almost.)
AO3 Version is here
Next Chapter is TBA
Summary
... "Yo! We're coming to you live in Camp Wawanakwa, somewhere in Muskoka, Ontario!" A man with neatly styled black hair, a cleft chin and a teal camp shirt on said. "I'm your host, Chris Mclean, dropping season one of the hottest new reality show on television right now!" Chris explained, before it cut to a scene of him walking across a dock.
---
Or, an AU inspired by Total Drama Do Over where almost everyone from the Total Drama Cast are in the first season. Total Drama Do Over was made by CoGreen20 on DeviantArt.
Beginning Author Notes
Note that I removed Beardo, Leonard, Staci and Sugar from the first season cause: Beardo, Leonard and Staci didn't do much and Sugar wasn't really a good character overall in my opinion. It's more likely I'll add them in revenge. Also, Alejandro and Sierra aren't here due to me wanting them to still debut in World Tour.
...
"Here's the deal, 45 campers have signed up to spent eight weeks here at this crummy old summer camp." Chris explained once again, gesturing to the camp behind him. "They'll compete in challenges against eachother, and then face the judgement of their fellow campers."
A campfire was shown with logs surrounding it before Chris suddenly popped up in the camera's view. "Their fate will be decided here, at the dramatic campfire ceremonies where each week, all but one will receive a mashmallow." Chris grabbed a stick with a marshmallow on it and began to eat the marshmallow. He threw the stick away. "In the end, only one will be left standing and will be rewarded cheesy tabloid fame!" Chris pulled out some magazines before putting it away to reveal a chest full of money. "And a small portion, which let's face it, they'll probably blow it in a week." He put the chest away. "To survive, they'll have to battle..."
The camera switched to a bunch of flies with something clawing on them. "Black flies..."
The thing that was clawing on the flies was revealed to be a bear. "Grizzly bears..."
The scene switched to a weird looking worm on a plate. "Disgusting camp food..."
The worm began talking. "Hey now."
It switched back to show Chris, who was now on the dock again. "And, each other."
The scene then switched to the camera showing hidden cameras. "Every moment will be caught on one of the hundreds of cameras situated all over the camp."
It switched back to Chris again. "Who will crumble under the pressure?" He asked, to nobody. "Find out, right here, right now!" He pointed at the audience. "On..."
"Total!"
"Drama!"
"Island!"
Theme song break
"Welcome back to Total Drama Island!" Chris greeted. "Alright, it's time to meet our first 15 campers!" He exclaimed.
"We told them they would be staying at a 5 star resort, so if they seem a little T.O.ED, that's probably why." He expounded, as the first boat began making it's way to the dock.
The boat dropped off a girl who was short, had brown hair in a ponytail, braces and some glasses. She was wearing a green dress with a lime vest over it with some pins. Her pants were pink, with white shoes to go with her outfit.
"Beth! What's up--"
Beth quickly zoomed over to Chris and began hugging him. "It's so incredulous to meet you!" She stopped hugging him. "Wow, you're much shorter in real life..."
Chris seemed visibly uncomfortable and backed away. "Uh... thanks." He said, as she walked to the back of the dock.
Another boat dropped off a man. He had a white cap and a green t-shirt with the letter D on it in orange. He had grey shorts and dark yellow sandals. He walked over to Chris.
"DJ!" Chris greeted.
"Yo, Chris Mclean! How's it going?" DJ greeted back. He put his bags down to high five Chris. DJ began looking around, confused. "Hey, you sure you got the right place here?" He asked. "Where's the hot tub at?"
"Yo dawg, this is it, Camp Wawanakwa!" Chris confirmed, gesturing enthusiastically.
DJ picked up his bags and walked over to the back of the dock. He began looking around again. "Hm... looked a lot different on the application form."
The boat that dropped off Beth came back, and dropped off a boy. He had brown hair that was spiked up to the top, a teal t-shirt and blue pants. He had brown shoes, too.
"Mike! What's up, dude?" Chris waved as Mike began walking over to him.
"Uh! Hi!" Mike waved awkwardly, before looking around. "Oh, uh... where's the rest of us?" Mike questioned.
"You're one of the early birds, go stand next to DJ and Beth." Chris explained, gesturing to the end of the dock.
"Oh, okay!" Mike was happy to listen, heading to the end of the dock.
Once again, a boat previously seen dropped off a girl. She was blonde, with red cheerleading clothes and white boots. She walked over to Chris with her bags.
"Hey Sa--"
The girl cut off Chris before he could talk. "Hi! I'm Sammy!" Sammy put her bags down to wave. "And I don't have a sister, why would I have one?" She anxiously fiddled with her hair.
Chris rolled his eyes, before giving a smile again. "Alright, Sammy! Stand next to the others." He said.
"Okay!" She exclaimed, picking up her bags and heading to the others.
A boat dropped off another girl. Her appearance was goth like, with black hair that had teal streaks and teal lipstick. She had a black choker, and a corset of the same colour with blue sleeves that was also green. She also wore a black skirt with two teal patches at the end, black leggings and long, black boots. She looked angry as she tried to pick up her heavy luggage.
"Gwen." Was all Chris said as Gwen walked over to him.
Gwen looked around, heavily disappointed. "You mean we're staying here?" She questioned.
"No, you're staying here!" Chris confirmed. He gestured to somewhere else. "My crib is an Airstream with A.C, that-a-way." He explained.
The goth shot daggers in her eyes, walking closer to Chris and gesturing angrily. "I did not sign up for this."
"Actually..." Chris held up some papers. "You did."
Gwen grabbed the papers and ripped them in half, dropping them on the floor.
Chris still had a smile on his face. "The great thing about lawyers is..." He pulled out more papers. "They make lots of copies!"
Gwen turned away and grabbed her bags, ready to get back on the boat. "I am not staying here!" She announced, fuming.
"Cool! Hope you can swim though, because your ride just left." Chris pointed at the boat, which was heading away to bring another contestant.
Gwen turned to Chris and glared. "Jerk!" She said, before walking off to the end of the dock.
The boat headed to the dock. On the boat, was a blonde guy with a cleft chin, a yellow chain, a cowboy hat, and a pink button-up shirt that was open. He also had blue shorts and black sandals. As he was dancing, when the boat reached the dock, he jumped off perfectly and someone threw him his luggage. As the boat headed away, Geoff gave thumbs-up. "Thanks, Brody!"
"You're welcome, dude!" A guy on the boat said.
"Chris Mclean!" Geoff greeted, walking over to him. "Sup, man? It's an honour to meet you, man!" He said, fist-bumping with Chris.
"The Jeffster! Welcome to the island, man." Chris exclaimed.
"Thanks, man!"
"If they say 'man' one more time, I'm gonna puke." Gwen claimed, crossing her arms grumpily.
As Geoff walked away to the others, he gave Chris and thumbs-up, which Chris accepted.
Another boat came back, and a girl stepped off of it. She had slightly, curly blonde hair and a green sweater with a blue collar. She had a dark grey skirt, purple leggings and black shoes. She walked over to Chris. "Hello, Chris."
"Dawn! Welcome to Camp Wawanakwa!" Chris greeted, expecting her to be shocked-
Suprisingly, Chris was the one who was shocked. "Uh, okay then...
"Hi, I'm Sammy!" Sammy waved. "It's nice to meet you!" She greeted.
"Hello." Dawn greeted back. "You don't need to try and talk to everyone just because you want to avoid a problem that you fear may be coming." Dawn suddenly said with no warning.
Sammy looked uncomfortable. "Huh? Who told you that?"
"I read auras, and yours looks like someone hit it with a rock." Dawn explained, before waiting for the others.
Sammy looked very uncomfortable, before Gwen started talking.
I doubt that's actually real, y'know." Gwen said to Sammy.
"Right, not real..." Sammy reassured.
The boat that had previously dropped off Sammy came back, to reveal a short boy. He had purple hair, a grey suit and white and orange shoes.
"Max! Welcome, dude." Chris waved, waiting for Max to walk over.
Max had finally walked over. "Thank you Chris, I truly appreciate your decision to let me into Total Drama Island." Max began saying. "I see this as a huge achievement because It will help me TAKE OVER THE WORLD and MAKE EVERYONE MY SLAVES!!!" Max yelled out and began laughing maniacally.
Chris seemed unimpressed. "Alright, villain wannabe, move aside." He advised.
"Wait, but--"
Chris pushed Max away. "Next!" He shouted.
Max began walking away to the end of the dock grumpily.
"And that's another insane person to add to the list." Gwen said.
"Everybody, this is Lindsay!" Chris had greeted for a girl that had arrived.
Lindsay was a blonde girl with a blue bandanna over her head. She had a brown top that was red at the top and bottom and an orange skirt with brown cowboy boots. "Hiii!" Lindsay greeted, walking over. "Okay, you look so familiar!" Lindsay pointed out, literally.
"I'm Chris Mclean." Chris explained, hoping Lindsay would get it.
Lindsay, in fact, did not get it.
"...The host, of the show?"
"Oh, that's where I know you from!" Lindsay finally remembered, happy.
Chris looked very confused. "Uh... yeah." He said as Lindsay walked away.
Another girl walked off the boat Lindsay was on. She had long, black hair, a red crop-top, green shorts and black and red sandals. She took off her sunglasses and looked intimidating, scaring everyone.
"Heather." Chris welcomed. Heather did nothing but walk away from Chris.
Beth quickly ran over to her. "Hiii!" She waved. "Look's like we're your new friends for the next eight weeks!" Beth exclaimed. Her spit from her mouth got on Heather, which prompted the latter to be disgusted.
As Beth was busy welcoming Heather and Heather was busy being disgusted, loud music from another boat interrupted everyone. They looked over to see...
A man had his foot on the speaker that was causing the noise. He had a green mohawk, a few blue piercings on his face and a black choker with teal spikes. He wore a black t-shirt with a skull on it and a white undershirt. He also was wearing a black bracelet and blue shorts, having red shoes to go with his outfit. He went off the boat, angry.
"Duncan! Dude!" Chris welcomed once again.
Duncan held up his fist. "I don't like surprises." He revealed.
"Yeah, your parole officer warned me about that." Chris explained, crossing his arms smugly. "He also told me to give him a holler anytime and have you return to juvie." Chris also revealed.
Duncan breathed in the fresh air, not caring about what Chris was saying. "Okay then." Duncan began walking over to the end of the dock. "Meet you by the campfire, gorgeous." He said to Heather, still walking.
"Drop dead, you skeeze!" Heather rudely told him.
A short boy stepped off of a boat that had recently returned. He had glasses, a red hoodie, orange shorts, white socks with blue and red stripes, and orange shoes. He walked over to Chris. "Hi, I'm Cameron!" He said.
"Hey Cameron, I'm Chris!" Chris replied back.
"So, uh, am I one of the early ones?" Cameron asked, looking around. "Cause right now, I only see eleven others..."
Chris nodded. "Mmmhmm. Now, how about you go stand with your soon to be enemies or friends?" He gestured to the others.
Most of everyone was normal, but Heather, Max, and Duncan were glaring.
Cameron gulped. "Okay..." The bubble boy slowly walked over to the others.
Another boat returned, revealing a girl with black hair. She had red earrings in the shape of feathers, a purple bead necklace and a white top with a purple stripe. She was also wearing black pants and purple shoes. She walked over to Chris. "Hey Chris! How are you?" She asked.
"Sky! The Olympic one. I'm doing great, thanks for asking!" Chris confirmed, shaking Sky's hand.
Afterwards, Sky walked away.
Right before Sky was about to greet everyone, Duncan began talking. "What? You don't think I'm hot?" Duncan smugly smiled.
"Of course I don't! You're a criminal, and an ugly one!" Heather insulted, leaning closer to Duncan.
Duncan smirked. "What? You wanna secretly kiss me or something?" He assumed, still having a grin on his face.
"Uh... Guys--"
Heather turned away and began to walk over to where everyone kept their luggage. "I'm calling my parents, you cannot make me stay here!" Heather announced.
Chris smiled and pulled out more papers.
A guy with a red headband and a red tracksuit with brown hair was water-skiing from the boat.
"Ladies and gentleman, Tyler!"
Tyler tried to wave, but that caused him to lose focus and roll across the water, losing the boat and getting thrown across the dock. He fell into the pile of luggage.
One of the bags fell into the water, splashing Heather. "Ugh! My shoes!"
"WICKED WIPEOUT, MAN!" Chris yelled from across the dock.
Tyler quickly dug his hand out of the pile of suitcases and bags and gave a thumbs-up.
DJ, Max and Geoff both gave thumbs-ups, while Gwen looked away, not caring.
Heather walked over to the others, soaking wet and mad.
Chris attempted to hold in his laughter, until he wasn't even wanting to laugh anymore.
A scrawny guy holding a keyboard took a loud breath, which caused Chris to look over. He had brown hair and a small beard. He wore a pink undershirt with a blue t-shirt over, which had a burger on it, and green pants and blue shoes.
"Welcome to camp, Harold!" Chris gestured enthusiastically
Harold did not respond. In fact, he just looked around.
"What's he looking at?" Beth asked.
"Uh... maybe because it isn't a 5 star resort like we were promised?" Mike genuinely responded, and it was definitely not sarcasm.
"So you mean the show is at a crappy summer camp and not on some big stage or something?" Harold questioned the host.
"You got it!" Chris confirmed.
"Yes!" Harold cheered. He began walking over to the others. "That is so much more favourable to my skillls."
Chris looked confused and did a face of disgust.
Once again, a boat dropped off another contestant. She had red dyed hair that was in pigtails and a pink flower in her hair. She wore a red corset and a black choker, red bracelets and green pants to go with her outfit. Finally, she had some sandals.
"Zoey! The indie chick, welcome to Camp Wawanakwa!" Chris greeted, waiting for a response.
"Hey everyone!" Zoey greeted back. "Wow, I'm so excited to be here! I wonder, do any of you like indie theatre--"
"You like indie theatre?" Mike asked, shocked. "Wow, if you like kickboxing, I may have to marry you!" Mike joked.
Zoey laughed, before standing next to Mike.
Once another boat came, a girl who looked exactly like Sammy but with a beauty mark stepped off. "Ugh, Samey! What did I tell you about trying to sign up for this show?!" She yelled out.
Sammy gasped. "AMY?!"
Amy stepped over aggressively to Sammy. "Chris knows I'm the better one! Why'd you feel the need to break into here?!" Amy yelled out, grabbing Sammy's arm.
Chris snickered while everyone was scared and terrified.
After Sammy pulled her arm away from Amy, DJ stepped in front of her. "Hey! Stop doing that! We were all here and we know she got here fair and square!"
"Oh, she definitely DIDN'T!" Amy claimed. "I know her, she's the worst!" She continued, furious.
"Okay, I think you should all stop arguing because thee next contestant is coming right now." Chris raised an eyebrow.
"Ugh! Fine..." Amy crossed her arms.
Sammy uncomfortably tugged onto her own sleeve, while the others looked worried.
A girl from the same boat that had Amy stepped off. She had long, blonde hair and a pink corset. She had bright pink pants and a pink necklace with pink shoes. "Hey everyone, Dakota here!" She exclaimed, walking over to Chris.
"Welcome Dakota! How do you feel about your fellow contestants?" Chris gestured to the others.
"Oh, uhm..." Dakota took a look at the campers she saw. "...They look normal...but that's okay! I'll just be the biggest thing ever to them!" She beamed, walking over.
A guy with black hair walked over to Chris. He wore a green camo undershirt with a green t-shirt with a hand on it. He had black pants and green shoes.
"Contestant number 20 is Trent!" Chris announced.
"Hey, good to meet you, man. Saw you on that figure skating show, nice work!" Trent told the host.
Chris and Trent proceeded to hit their fist together two times. "Hey, thanks man! I knew I rocked that show." Chris boasted.
"I saw that! One of the guys dropped his partner on her head!" Beth exclaimed. "...so they got immunity that week."
"Lucky!" Harold thought."I hope I get dropped on my head..."
Even though Lindsay had no idea what they were talking about, she joined in. "Me too!"
Trent looked around, confused. "So this is it?" He took a glance at his fellow competitors...
Most were staring, but Heather was trying to dry her hair out, Harold was picking his nose and Dakota was taking selfies.
"...Alrighty then." Trent began to walk to the end of the dock. He stopped and stood next to Gwen, so he raised his eyebrow at her.
Although Gwen didn't want anyone to see, she smiled when she saw Trent.
Another girl stepped off another boat. She had blonde hair that was tied into a ponytail, and a cyan cropped hoodie. She had blue shorts and brown sandals, too. She seemed to be holding a surfing board.
Bridgette walked to Chris, dropping her bag to hold her surfing board. "Hey, what's up?"
"Alright, our surfing chick, Bridgette is here!" Chris told everyone, gesturing to Bridgette.
Duncan scoffed. "Nice board." He said, sarcastically. "This ain't Malibu, honey!" The criminal 'corrected'.
"I thought we were going to be on a beach." Bridgette gestured, confused.
"We are!"
In fact, there was a beach, but a bird with plastic wrapped around it's neck was whisked away by the ocean.
Bridgette sighed. "Great..." She picked up her bags and...
"Alright! That makes--" Chris was hit by Bridgette's surfing board. "Ow!" He began rubbing his head. "That hurt!"
Bridgette had encountered the others on the dock. "Hey guys." She greeted.
"Hey..." Geoff waved. He moved behind Bridgette. "I'm Geoff!"
"What's up?" While turning to Geoff, she almost hit everyone's heads, causing them to have to duck.
"Dang! Watch the board, man!" Harold warned her.
"Hi! I'm Beth!" Beth waved, waiting for Bridgette's reply.
"Hey!" Bridgette said, as she almost hit everyone's heads again.
"Hello, inferior civilian!" Max greeted, maliciously.
"...Uh, Hi." Bridgette turned to Max, once again almost hitting everyone's heads.
"Okay, we've all met surfer girl, can we get on with the show now?" Heather urged, impatiently.
Duncan smirked. "Someone missed their double cappuccino macchiato this morning?" Duncan asked, clearly trying to start a fight.
"Get bent." Was all Heather said.
Gwen sighed. "I hope more sane people arrive instead of insane--" Unfortunately, she was cut off by a girl who was familiar to her.
"Cousin Gwen?!" A girl with short black hair, a pinl bow, and a long pink dress with white puffy sleeves came in. She was also wearing a light pink choker and some pink shoes.
"Oh no." Gwen said.
"Our wannabe princess, Ella is here-- Hey!" Chris noticed that Ella did not bother to speak to Chris and wanted to go to Gwen.
"Oh, how long has it been since I've seen you? Three months? Five months?" Ella wondered, while hugging Gwen.
"...uhhh, I think five months?" Gwen replied, uncomfortably.
"Dang it, I hoped you guys would get into this not knowing eachother..." Chris said, frustrated. "Oh wait, here comes the next contestant!" Chris noticed as he turned to the sound of a boat.
Once she stepped off, the person that was most recently arrived was glaring. Glaring at Harold, specifically. She had red hair tied into a bun and glasses. She was also wearing a green sweater with a white collar and a dark blue skirt, with white socks and black shoes matching with her outfit.
"Scarl--"
"Scarlett." Harold scowled.
"Harold." Scarlett hissed.
"Woah! Do those two, like... know eachother?" Dakota questioned, curious.
Duncan scoffed. "I think that's obvious."
"It's because they're siblings with a rivalry on who's smarter." Dawn confirmed.
Harold turned to Dawn, confused. "Wait, how did you know that?!" He quaked.
"I read people's auras!" The Aura Whisperer said. "And your rivalry with your sister is all over your aura, including hers." Dawn shared, which left the others that arrived after Dawn in shock.
Scarlett stood silent, until she wasn't. "For once, I'm actually shocked. But whatever..." Scarlett walked over to the others. As Harold and Scarlett stood next to eachother, they shared a glare of mutual hatred.
Another scrawny looking boy arrived. He had medium length brown hair. He was wearing a white undershirt, a teal shirt over it and a red sweatervest. Finally, he had green pants and shoes.
"Our next camper is Noah!" Chris announced, gesturing to Noah.
"You got my memo about my life threatening allergies?" Noah questioned, in a sarcastic tone.
"I'm sure someone did!" Was all Chris said.
Noah pointed at a part of the not so good looking camp and looked around. "Good, is this where we're staying?"
"No! It's your mother's house, and we're throwing a party." Duncan cracked his knuckles, clearly about to do something harmful.
"Cute." Noah said. He pointed at Duncan's piercings. "Nice piercings, original. Do them yourself?"
"Yeah, you want one?" Duncan grabbed Noah by his lower lip and pulled out a sharp object that should definitely not be used for piercings.
"Uh, no thanks. Can I have my lip back please?" Noah asked, clearly not caring. Duncan let him go. "Thanks."
Suddenly, a strong voice was heard from a boat. "Hey! What's up, ya'll? Leshawna's in the house!" Leshawna announced. Leshawna had a beauty mark on her cheek, and her hair was in a ponytail. She wore a shirt that was white with red fruits on it and blue pants with brown sandals. Upon seeing Leshawna, Harold gasped.
Leshawna strutted down the dock. "Yo, hey baby! How you doing? How's it going?" She shared a high five with Chris. "Feel free to quit now to save yourself some trouble, because I'm here to win." She told everyone.
Leshawna walked up to DJ, high fiving him. "Oh, what's up my brother? Give me some sugar, baby!"
Harold attempted to walk up to Leshawna. "I've never seen a girl like you in real life before." He said.
Leshawna turned around and raised her eyebrow, hands on her hips. "Excuse me?" Leshawna asked.
"You're real big..." Harold expressed, gesturing oddly. "...and loud."
"WHAT DID YOU SAY TO ME?!" Leshawna yelled. "Oh, no you didn't! You have not seen anything yet. I'll show you big, baby!" Leshawna lunged forward at Harold, but luckily Bridgette, DJ, Mike, and Zoey restrained her.
Harold attempted to fight back, doing weird karate moves.
"Oh yeah? You want some of this?" Leshawna questioned, trying to get out of Bridgette, DJ, Mike, and Zoey's grasps. "Well COME ON, THEN!"
"Alright campers, settle down!" Chris urged.
Leshawna was fixing up her shirt and looked at Harold uncomfortably.
Harold awkwardly smiled. Scarlett was giggling, which Harold noticed. “Hey! Why are you laughing?” He questioned his sister.
“You’re so bad at flirting.” Scarlett snickered, hand still on her mouth.
Harold just turned away, crossing his arms.
A tall guy had arrived. He had red hair and a few freckles on his face. He wore a white tank top and blue oversized pants, with brown shoes.
"Scott! Welcome to the island, dude." As Scott walked by, the two shared a fist bump.
"Yeah, thanks a lot, man." Scott snickered, deviously.
A very, very tall girl stepped off a boat. She had her black hair tied into a short ponytail with an explorer's hat on top. She wore a white shirt with a green-ish jacket over it, some shorts of the same colour and white socks and green shoes.
"Jasmine! The outback girl! Welcome to camp." Chris welcomed, high fiving with Jasmine.
"Crikey! There seems to be a lot of people here." Jasmine looked around, waving to the others.
"Woah!" Geoff gasped. "You're like... six feet tall!" Geoff was in awe looking at Jasmine.
Jasmine chuckled. "Actually, I'm seven feet."
Geoff mouth widened even more as Jasmine walked to the end of the dock.
Two girls were dropped off together. One was skinnier and darker than the other, while the other had more weight and was lighter. They both had their black hair in pigtails and wore the same clothes, which were black and white striped crop tops, pink shorts and pink sandals.
"Ladies! Sadie, Katie, welcome to your new home for eight weeks." This time, Chris was the one to walk over.
"Oh my gosh," Katie began. "Sadie, look! It's a summer camp!" Katie pointed at the summer camp.
"Okay, I've ALWAYS wanted to go to summer camp!" Sadie exclaimed, before she started squealing and running over to the end of the dock with her best friend.
"And here comes Jo." Chris called out.
Jo was a girl that you wouldn't want to mess with. Jo had dark, short blonde hair and a black hoodie, blue sweatpants and green shoes to go with it.
Jo walked over to the others, ignoring Chris. "If you guys want to value your kiwis, you better not mess with me." Jo glared at the others.
"Right back at ya." Scott responded, with a devious smile.
A man with a similar colour scheme to Chris came onto the dock. He had dirty blonde hair and a teal shirt, with a darker shade of it as a single stripe and a white collar. He also wore green pants and teal shoes.
"Topher! The superfan of moi! How you doing!" Chris greeted, fist bumping with Topher.
"Hello Chris! It's such a pleasure to meet you! You truly host the best shoes!" Topher praised, looking directly at Chris.
"Thanks dude!" Chris said, as Topher walked away.
Another scrawny dude arrived. He had brown hair that was mostly covered by his teal beanie, and a green hoodie. He had some teal pants and some green shoes.
"Ezekiel! What's up, man?"
"...I think I see a bird!" Ezekiel said, as he pointed up at the sky.
Trent chuckled at this.
Chris put his hand on Ezekiel's shoulder. "Okay, look dude. I know you don't get out much. Been homeschooled your whole life, raised by freaky prairie people, just don't say much and try not to get kicked off to early?" Chris advised.
"Yes sir!" Ezekiel listened as he went to the end of the dock.
"That's just... wow." Gwen said, in shock.
A small brown haired boy arrived. Is he really a teenager? He had a light yellow t-shirt with red and green stripes on it and a white collar. There was a grey-ish undershirt, and some teal pants and green-ish shoes.
"Cody! The Code-ster! The Code-meister" Chris greeted, him and Cody pointing finger guns at eachother and then high fiving.
"Dude, psyched to be here, man." Cody greeted back, walking slowly in a 'cool' way. "I see the ladies have already arrived, alright." Cody pointed a finger gun at Sky. Sky, was confused.
Cody walked away, but then walked back over to Leshawna to try and say something...
"Save it, short stuff." Leshawna put her index finger over Cody's mouth, shutting him up for a bit.
A guy with a teal shirt that had white sleeves and a white collar had arrived. He was also wearing green pants and black shoes, having black hair too.
"Dave the germaphobe. Welcome to the island!" Chris waved at him, waiting for a response.
“You know about my allergies, right?” Dave questioned, concerned. “Cause I’m allergic to cats, leaves, itching powder—"
"Dude, everyone is allergic to itching powder, it has itching in it’s name for a reason.” Duncan rolled his eyes at him.
“Well, still!” Dave attempted to talk. “I still don’t want to get itching powder on m—”
“Okay listen, you’re acting pretty annoying right now, so shut it.” Duncan ordered to Dave, and he was indeed annoyed by him.
"Woah! Wait, let's not start fights! We just met eachother!" Mike advised, going in between the two.
Duncan scoffed. "Yeah right, why would I--" Duncan went silent upon seeing Mike.
"...Why are you staring at me?" Mike asked, confused.
"Do I know you from somewhere, you look familiar..." Duncan pointed out, suspicious.
"No? I never met you in my life." Mike responded, puzzled.
"Uh, alright then..." Duncan then walked away.
Dave stared at Mike. "Did you just save me by confusing that guy?" Dave questioned, pointing at Duncan with his thumb.
"I guess so!" Mike replied.
Dave looked a bit weirded out. "Okay then..."
Another girl had arrived. She had long dark hair and some makeup on, silver hoop earrings to go with it. She had a hot pink top with lighter pink frilled sleeves, a pink belt and some light blue pants. Finally, she had some sandals that were black at the bottom, and the straps were pink.
"Anne Maria! Welcome!" Chris greeted.
"Alright everyone, you better not mess with me!" She said, ignoring Chris. "Remember I have my hairspray at all times so don't try and go all fighty whitey with me!" Anne Maria put her hands on her hips, glaring.
"Wow," Cody said. "That's kinda hot--" Cody was silenced by Anne Maria, because she was spraying hairspray into his face.
A woman with black hair tied in a ponytail came. She had a beauty mark near her lips, a blue shirt with no sleeves, a darker blue belt and blue shorts. She also had white socks and blue shoes.
Chris gestured enthusiastically. "Eva? Nice. Glad you could make it!" He exclaimed, and the response to that was ignorance.
As Eva dropped her bag, it was unfortunately dropped on Cody's foot, who had recovered from the hairspray.
Cody grabbed his foot in pain. "Ow! W-What's in there, dumbbells?" He asked.
Eva raised one part of her unibrow. "Yes?"
Duncan looked over to DJ. "She's all yours, man." This sentence prompted a confused expression from DJ.
"WOOHOO!!!!" A voice came from the start of the dock, startling Chris. "CHRIS! WHAT'S HAPPENING?!" A blonde boy asked. His hair was messy and he had a white t-shirt with the maple leaf from the Canadian flag. He also wore lime shorts, mismatched white socks and light green shoes. "THIS IS AWESOME! WOOHOO!!!!!!!!!"
"Owen!" Chris put up finger guns. "WELCOME!" He beamed, gesturing to Owen.
Owen grabbed Chris and put him in the air while giving him a hug, crushing him. "Awesome to be here, man! YEAH!" He exclaimed. "This is just so..."
"Awesome?" Gwen questioned, smiling.
"Yes! Awesome! WOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" He expressed once again. "Are you gonna be on my team?" Owen asked the goth.
"Oh, I sure hope so." Gwen sarcastically remarked, wiggling her finger in a motion that said I don't hope so.
"WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!" Owen screamed out in excitement.
"You about finished?" Chris questioned, now annoyed by the boy's antics.
"Sorry dude, I'm just so psyched!" Owen put his hands in the air, before laughing and running to the end of the dock.
"Cool, and here comes Rodney."
Rodney was a red haired guy that was tall and muscular, with a white t-shirt and blue overalls over it. He also wore orange shoes. "Hi Chris, thanks for choosing me for Total Drama Island. I really appreciate it." He expressed his gratitude, then walked over to the end of the dock.
"Nice. Now, here's Brick!" Chris announced.
Brick had black half shaved hair, and a green turtle neck t-shirt. He had a necklace with two grey cards (i dont know what it is.) and a black belt, with blue shorts, white socks and black boots.
"So Brick," The host began. "I hope you know that you'll be placed on a team with a bunch of random people. You alright with that?" He queried, waiting for a response.
"Sir, yes sir!" Brick listened, saluting to Chris before walking to the end of the dock.
"Okay, everyone! Here comes Courtney!" Chris told everyone.
Courtney was a girl with brown hair reaching her shoulders. She had a white undershirt with a collar and a grey shirt over it. Her undershirt showed near her hips and she wore green pants with a small cut at the end of them. Finally, she wore some sandals. Chris helped Courtney onto the dock. "Thank you."
Courtney waved to the others. "Hi! You must be the other contestants. It's really nice to meet you all!" She greeted.
"How's it going? I'm Owen!" Owen greeted back, shaking her hand.
"Nice to meet you O..." Courtney's attention was shifted to another individual "...Wow."
A beautiful man on a boat was seen. He had stylish black hair, and a green t-shirt with a necklace that had something tied into a knot at the front. He had worn out blue pants and green sandals, too. His presence alone was enough to make almost everyone swoon over him, some even fainting from his beauty.
As the man walked onto the dock, Chris was sure to greet him. "This is Justin. Welcome to Total Drama Island." He fist bumped with Justin.
"Thanks Chris, this is great." Justin exclaimed.
"Just so you know, we picked you based entirely on your looks." Chris revealed, which was a bit... mean.
Luckily Justin didn't mind at all. "I can deal with that." He shrugged, walking over to the dock.
Owen was quick to join in. "I like your pants!" He pointed at Justin's pants.
"Thanks, man." Was all Justin said."
"Because they look like they're all worn out!" Owen laughed, before continuing. "Did you buy them like that?" He supposed, his attention still on the pants.
"Uh, no." Justin began. "Just had them for awhile.”
"Oh, cool!" Owen replied, before hitting himself on the head. "Stupid!" He grumbled.
Another man happened to be on a boat. He had half shaved brown hair and yellow earrings, with a yellow necklace that had a symbol of a lightning strike on it. He had a blue sports shirt with the number 1 plastered on it, and the sleeves had yellow and white stripes, the former being much bigger than the other stripes. Finally, he wore some green shorts and blue shoes. "Awww yeah! This is Lightning's game! Sha-AWESOME!" He crowed.
When Lightning got off the boat, Chris began speaking. "Rudolph 'Lightning' Jackson! Welcome to the island, man." He held up some finger guns at Lightning, before high fiving with him.
"Thanks, Chris! I just know I'm gonna win this game." Lightning said. He seemed to think highly of himself. "Sha-YEAH!" He ran over to the end of the dock.
A boy who looked a bit like Ezekiel appeared on another arriving boat. He had brown messy hair and a green beanie which seemed to be worn out. He wore a white sweater, with an orange vest over it, a black belt, blue pants and black shoes. As he went over to the dock, he struggled to carry his luggage, dragging it.
"Shawn! Welcome to Camp Wawanakwa." Chris waved.
"Why are you wearing so much clothing? It's summer." Bridgette asked, raising an eyebrow.
"Well- DUH!" Shawn hollered. "You have to protect yourself from the incoming zombies trying to bite you!" He explained. Everyone looked confused.
"All I heard was insane." Dave mumbled under his breath.
"What was that?" Shawn pointed at Dave, defensive.
"Nothing."
"Alright conspiracy nut, move aside. Our last few campers are arriving soon." Chris advised, and Shawn listened, walking over to the end of the dock, but he also tried to avoid as many people as possibe.
A guy with auburn fluffy hair arrived on the dock, seeming to be playing on a Nintendo GameGuy, completely focused on it. He wore small round glasses and a lime-ish yellow-ish shirt, with a dark orange collar and two dark orange stripes, with a dark yellow stripe in between. Under his shirt was small white ruffles, assumingly apart of his undershirt. Finally, he wore some blue shorts, white socks, and orange shoes.
"Welcome to camp, Sam-- Huh?" Chris was confused as Sam ignored him.
"Oh yeah, I just got a grenade launcher upgrade. Sweet!" Sam cheered as he continued to play on his GameGuy.
Chris raised his eyebrow, before shrugging. "Whatever. We only have 2 campers left anyway!" Chris also cheered.
"So, here's our second to last camper, B!" Chris introduced.
B had an orange flipped back baseball cap, and yellow earrings. He had brown hair and a brown soulpatch, wearring a while undershirt, an orange hoodie and a black jacket all at once. He also had some blue shorts, white socks and some grey brown shoes.
As B walked onto the dock, he only gave some finger guns before walking over to the end of the dock.
Chris was mildly annoyed by B's silence. "Giving me the silent treatment, I see..." Chris turned to see the last camper arriving on a boat. "Oh wait, Izzy's coming!"
Izzy was a girl with curly, red hair. She had a green, sleeveless turtle neck top that showed her chest and a lime skirt that seemed to be tied into a knot near the end. Additionally, she wore some matching green bracelets. Finally, she had some green and lime shoes. She began waving. "Hi Chris!" Izzy tried to run over to the dock... "Hi! Hi-- OW!" But she unfortunately tripped and hit her chin on the dock, falling into the water.
"Ohhhh..." Tyler began, trying to hold in a laugh. "That was bad!" He was no longer able hold in his giggles.
Courtney quickly ran to the place where Izzy hit her chin in a panic. "Guys, she could be seriously hurt!" Courtney glared at the others, before helping Izzy up.
Once Izzy was on the dock, she shaked off all the water on her. "That felt... so... GOOD!" She giggled. "Except for hitting my chin." She got up, grabbing her hair. "Is this summer camp?! That is so cool! Do you have paper-mache here?! Are we having lunch soon?!" She began asking so many questions.
Owen pointed at Izzy. "That is a good call!" He gushed.
"First things first, we need a group photo for the promos!" Chris exclaimed. "Everyone at the start of the dock!" He explained as he pulled out a camera and jumped onto the boat. Soon, everyone was posed for the photo.
"Okay! One... Two... Thre-- Oops!" Chris had noticed something wrong with the camera. "Okay, forgot the lens cap." He then put the lens cap into place. "Okay, hold that pose... One-- Oh. No wait-- Card's full. Hang on..." The Host smiled.
Leshawna rolled her eyes. "Come on, man, my face is starting to freeze!" She complained.
"Got it!" Chris announced. "Okay, everyone say 'Wawanakwa!'" He advised, ready to take the photo.
"Wawanakwa!--" All campers said, before the dock broke. The pictures were just of the contestants almost dying and drowning.
"Okay guys, dry off and meet at the campfire pit in 10." Chris told everyone.
"This is Camp Wawanakwa. Your new home for the next eight weeks." Chris explained thoroughly. "The campers around you will be your cabin mates, your competition, and maybe even your friends, you dig?" He described in a informative manner, attention on the campers.
Everyone started looking at eachother, trying to give a good first impression, for example...
Mike and Zoey smiled and blushed at eachother, seemingly indicating something more than friends...? And then Owen and Noah, where Owen smiled at him but Noah rolled his eyes. If you wanna be aggressive, Harold attempted to smile at Duncan but was met with a threatening fist in front of his face. B and Dawn looked at eachother and smiled politely.
"The camper who stays the longest on Total Drama Island without getting voted off will win $100,000 dollars!" Chris smiled in excitement. It was clear he loved his idea of a show.
"Excuse me, what will the sleeping arrangements be? Cause I'd like to request a bunk under her." Duncan smirked at pointed at Heather, clearly being attracted to her.
"...They're not co-ed, are they?" Heather asked, slight fear slipping into her voice.
"No, girls get one side of the cabin and dudes get the other." Chris explained.
"Excuse me, Kyle?" Lindsay raised one of her arms, before putting it down and holding both of her hands together. "Can I have the cabin with the lake view since I'm the prettiest?" She questioned, curious.
"Okay you are, but that's not really how it works here." The Host corrected Lindsay. "And, it's Chris."
Katie held onto Sadie's hand. "I have to live with Sadie, or I'll die." She stuttered in fear.
"And I'll break out in hives. It's true!" Sadie quaked, confident of her claim.
"This cannot be happening." Gwen sighed, complaining. She, Noah and Tyler were then scooped up into a big hug by Owen.
"Aw, come on, guys! It'll be fun! It'll be like one big sleepover!" Owen rambled on, laughing out of joy.
"At least you guys don't have to sleep next to him." Tyler cautioned, pointing over to Duncan, who had a deer in a headlock, rubbing it on the head furiously.
"I think any of us would take our chances with Owen over Duncan." Noah remarked, rolling his eyes once again.
"Listen, we're gonna spilt you all into three teams." Chris said, pulling out some papers. "If I call your name out, go stand over there." He pointed to a place somewhere in the campfire.
And just like that, Chris started calling out names. "Cody, Amy, Gwen, Heather, Leshawna, Lindsay, Lightning, Owen, Sammy, Noah, Zoey, Katie, Dawn, Dave, and Topher." He finished up.
"From this moment on, you are officially known as..." Chris threw a flag to the called out campers. It was a green flag of a gopher that seemed to be screaming. "...The Screaming Gophers!"
"Yeah!" Owen laughed. "I'm a gopher, WOOHOO!" He cheered out in excitement.
"Wait, what about Sadie?" Katie asked, worried and confused.
"Fifteen more of you, over here." Chris explained. "Bridgette, Courtney, Duncan, Ezekiel, Geoff, Scott, Max, Tyler, Justin, Dakota, Brick, Anne Maria, Ella, Scarlett, and Harold." He finished.
"You guys will officially be known as..." Chris threw another flag, this time to the other fifteen he called. It was a red flag of an angry fish. "...The Killer Bass!"
"It's... awesome. It's like... amazing." Harold began and finished in awe.
"Now, the rest of you over here." Chris pointed to another area in the campfire pit. "B, Cameron, Jasmine, Jo, Mike, Sadie, Shawn, Izzy, Rodney, Eva, Beth, Sky, Sam, DJ, and Trent. Move, move, move!" He urged.
"Aw man, looks like we're not gonna be on the same team." Trent sadly remarked to Gwen. "Bummer."
"It's okay, we can still talk to each other." Gwen comforted him.
Trent smiled. "Yeah, you're right." He then walked over to the place Chris told him to go to.
"The rest of you will be known as..." Chris threw the last flag. It was a blue flag of a tiger that was roaring. "...The Feral Tigers!"
Mike smiled at the flag. "I think I like that name!" He exclaimed.
"But Katie's a gopher! I HAVE to be a gopher!" Sadie whined, distraught she wouldn't be with her friend.
"Don't worry Sadie, you can still hang out with us." Jasmine attempted to cheer her up. "Now, come on! The others are waiting for us!" She said, walking over to the others.
"I'll miss you, Katie!" Sadie waved, tears forming in her eyes as she followed Jasmine
"I'll miss you too!" Katie said, tears also forming in her eyes.
"Alright campers, all of you will be on camera in all areas during this competition." Chris explained, which made others not so thrilled.
BZZZT
Chris was seen in an outhouse that was filled with flies, and overall not that sturdy. "You will also be able to share your innermost thoughts on tape with video diaries anytime you want!" Chris continued. "Let the audience at home know what you're really thinking... or just get something off your chest." He finished his sentence.
BZZZT
Gwen looked at her surroundings in the confessional, uncomfortable. "Okay... so far this stinks." She frowned, crossing her arms.
BZZZT
Mike rolled the toilet paper, bored. "Okay, so Zoey... she's really nice..." He rubbed the back of his neck, a bit shy. "Like, super nice. I wonder if she'll go out with a guy like me." He sighed. "You see, I have this, erm.. quirk. I just hope my condition doesn't ruin anything again..." Mike was silent, before talking again. "Wait, did I say--"
BZZZT
For some reason, there was a random animal in the confessional putting on lipstick.
BZZZT
"Hey guys! Watch this, I have something very important to say!" Owen announced, and it does seem important...
...but he just ends up farting and laughing into the camera.
BZZZT
"Alright, any questions?" Chris questioned. Nobody replied. "Cool." He said. "Let's find your cabins!"
"Gophers are in the east cabin, Tigers in the middle and Bass in the west." The host explained, pointing to each cabin.
Heather opened the door to the gopher cabin to reveal... bunk beds. "Bunk Beds? Isn't this a little... summer camp?" She asked.
Gwen pushed Heather, annoyed by her. "That's the idea, genius."
Heather groaned "Shut up, weird goth girl." She glared at Gwen.
"You're so smart, I feel that!" Cody suddenly appeared behind Gwen, attempting to compliment her.
Gwen turned to Cody and raised an eyebrow. "Shouldn't you be on the boys side?" She questioned the short boy, suspicious.
Cody awkwardly smiled.
While Leshawna walked to the Gopher cabin, she saw Cody get thrown out of the girl's side and onto the rough grass.
Dakota came out of the Bass Cabin, confused. "Excuse me, where are the outlets, I need to charge my phone." She pulled out her phone, which seemed like a normal cellphone.
"There are some in the communal bathrooms, just across the way." Chris looked over to the bathrooms.
Lindsay suddenly joined in. "Communal bathrooms? But I'm not catholic." She pointed out, confused.
Chris could not believe how dumb this girl was. "Not communion, communal!"
Gwen had went outside of the cabin and sat on the stairs. "It means we shower together, idiot."
Lindsay's eyes began watering. "Awww, no, come on!" She whined, Gwen and Dakota having to cover their ears due to how loud she was.
Owen, Lightning and Noah peaked out of the boys side of the gopher cabin, watching all the chaos happen. "I'm so glad we're in our own cabin with just guys, you know what I mean?" Owen laughed.
Although Noah had just went back into the cabin, Lightning stayed. "It's okay, Lightning don't judge!" He smiled, before following Noah back into the cabin.
"Wait-- No! That's not what I meant!" Owen panicked, yelling out to them. "I love chicks, I just don't wanna sleep next to them--" He groaned out of stress. "No! I mean--" Owen ran back into the cabin.
"Excuse me, Chris?" Geoff asked. "Is there like any... chaperone in this kind of facility?" The party guy waited for a clear answer.
"A lot of you are 16 years old. As old as a counselor in training at a regular old summer camp..." Chris explained to the party guy. "So, other than me, you'll be unsupervised." He gave the answer Geoff was waiting for.
"Nice!" Geoff beamed.
"Also, you have half an hour to unpack and meet me back at the main lodge, starting... now!" Chris announced, leaving the main area.
Beth looked around, and saw one of her teammates, Sky, walking to the cabin. She walked over to her. "Hi! I'm Beth, your name is Sky, right?" She waved.
"Yeah! Nice to meet you, Beth." Sky shaked Beth's hand.
"So like... Justin. Isn't he super hot?" Beth started rambling to Sky.
"Oh, um..." Sky, in fact, did not think he was hot. "I guess he is, but I'm not here for the guys, I'm here to win. How about you? Why did you join Total Drama?"
"Well, I'm here to win too, but I hoped to find the love of my life here!" Beth revealed, before looking dreamily at Justin. "And I think I found it already..."
"...Good for you--" Sky was cut off by a high pitched scream from the gopher's cabin, startling everyone.
Multiple campers went to the girl's side of the gopher's cabin to check it out.
"Oh man, that white girl can scream." Leshawna remarked, frowning.
"What is it?! Kill it, kill it!" Lindsay faltered, on the table below a lone window in the middle of the room. She seemed to be scared of a cockroach crawling on the floor.
DJ gasped and screamed, jumping onto a nearby bed and crushing it.
"That... was my bed." Gwen expressed in dissapointment.
Harold attempted to step on the cockroach, and Heather plus some others decided to hide on the beds. A few more tried to stomp on the cockroach.
Duncan stopped the cockroach in it's tracks, and was about to hit it with an axe--
"Wait!" Dawn alerted. She scooped up the cockroach into her hands and pet it gently. "There. You're safe now, little one."
Duncan and the others watched in awe. "...What the--"
"Well, that's one way to stop a cockroach." Gwen commented, eyes widened.
Tyler walked over to Lindsay. "If you ever see one of those again, just tell me cause..." Tyler inhaled. "I could do that too."
Both Lindsay and Tyler began looking at eachother lovingly.
Duncan scoffed. "They always go for the jocks." He rolled his eyes.
"Listen up! I serve it three times a day, and you'll eat it three times a day!" A chef ordered. He had a normal white chef's hat and a green t-shirt with a white apron over it. He seemed angry. "Grab a tray, get the food, and sit your butts down now!" His voice shaked the things on the counter near him.
"Excuse me, will we be getting all the major food group?" Beth asked in concern as she looked at her food.
"Yeah, cause I get hypoglycaemic real bad if I don't get enough sugar." Harold had also expressed his concerns about the food.
"SIT YOUR BUTT DOWN, DID YOU HEAR ME?!" The chef yelled out, making Harold run away to a table.
"Have a cow!" Owen joked to Noah, making him giggle.
The chef turned to Owen. "What was that?!" He said, startling the two. "Come closer fat boy, I didn't hear you!"
Owen looked at his plate of food. "Um... I didn't really say anything important." Owen walked away.
"...You!" The chef yelled out to Noah. "Scrawny kid, give me your plate." He gestured for him to come over.
He proceeded to put extra food on his burger, leaving Noah puzzled.
Leshawna glanced at Noah, but her attention moved to Eva. "Yo, what's up girl?" She asked.
Eva turned to her and glared. Seemed like she didn't want to talk.
Ella walked over to Leshawna. "It's okay, I'm sure she's just not up to talking right now! I'm sure she'll talk later!" The wannabe princess reassured.
Leshawna rolled her eyes. "Yeah right--"
"NEXT!" Chef shouted.
"Excuse me, my nutritionist says I shouldn't eat any white sugar, white flour or like, dairy." Lindsay explained to the Chef.
"Um..." Cameron uncomfortably looked at his food. It was moving. "I-I don't think that's gonna be a problem."
"Cool!" Lindsay grabbed her food and went off.
"Uh... Chef? I think my food just moved..." Cameron worried, hands up to protect himself.
All the chef did was pull out a hammer and smash the food that was moving.
The food splattered all over Cameron. "Oh... Okay then." Cameron quaked. He grabbed his food and went to the table.
Soon, everyone was seated and had been eating their food uncomfortably. Something that nobody noticed though, was a lone burger moving across the floor.
Chris walked in, with the everlasting grin on his face still there. "Welcome to the main lodge."
"Yo, my man, can we order a pizza?" Geoff asked, clearly having a distaste for the food given out. Suddenly, a cleaver was thrown and it landed swiftly into a wall. Upon seeing this, Geoff panicked. "Woah! It's cool, G! Brown slop is cool!" He said, staring at the chef who was now holding a knife.
"Your next challenge begins... in one hour!" Chris announced, putting a finger up and walking out.
"What do you think they'll make us do?!" Sadie questioned to mike, fearfully.
"It's our first challenge, how hard can it be?" Mike commented, which he would soon regret.
The campers were now on a tall cliff, with their swimsuits on, about to jump into a 1000 foot dive down.
"...Oh f___." DJ trembled.

Monthly Muppets: Bear in The Big Blue House Special (Share, Bear, When You Gotta Go, And a Berry Blue Christmas)
Tumblr media
Welcome to big blue house, greetings from this large orangutan man. I'm Jake and this is muppets monthly, my monthly morsel of muppet madness comissioned by my good friend Emma. This months we're doing things a bit diffrently in two ways. The first is that this won't technically be monthly as we're doing TWO for you! This article and a suprise one i'll announce at the end of this one that's a big deal.
Neither however is what was previously announced in my last Monthly Muppets review: Follow That Bird. So for those of you who read these monthly, hopefully at least one of you but if not that's fine too, a quick explination: life happened while I was busy making other plans. And while normally that sets me back work wise and sometimes causes me to cancel reviews outright, here it was a good thing and a rare thing too: Disney actually put a show from the archives on disney+!
This is notable because while EVERY company hoards one or two shows and dosen't put them on streaming wether it's the plug another service, make money on tax writeoffs because their dickheads who somehow make disney look dignified, or
Tumblr media
Disney is still one of the leaders in hoarding a decent amount of cartoons and a few other shows for no reason and has released them at a rate of
Tumblr media
So when one finally happens, it's an event. Now to me this was neat, but not a huge thing, as while I love any muppet stuff getting published and this show had always seemed decent, I hadn't grown up with it the way many of you probably have and while I watched plenty of Nick JR as a kid even in elementary when nothing was on Cartoon Network, and geninely enjoyed some shows like Blues Clues i'm not ashamed to admit, I just never checked out playhouse Disney.
Emma however grew up with the show, and it was osmething she brought up any time I brought up the fact Disney realyl needs to pry open that vault. So since she pays for these I suggested covering a bunch of episodes, so I could experince the show myself since not being in the target Demo's never stopped me before. She agreed easily, and here we are.
For this I had her pick 4 episodes, since my usual going rate is 5 dollars an episode and since she was picking three (the equilvent of a movie) she got a fourth episode free. So I watched the Season 1 ep Share, Bear, the season 2 ep When You Gotta Go, and the Season 3 two parter a Beary Blue Christmas. What did I think of this very vibrant, mildly weird, show? find out under the cut.
Tumblr media
Big Blue House Things
So before I get to the episodes themselves I wanted to break down my impressions on the shows style itself. I would break down it's history but I got VERY little: a little googling turned up nothing, and while the DefunctTV episode for Buzz Lightyear of Star Command was super helpful for that review, the episode for Bear in the Big Blue House, one of the few things I could find, only covered that it was made as part of Playhouse Disney, now Disney Junior's humble beginnings and was it's first big hit, and that the creator of the show wanted to make the show a calm peaceful place, the opposite of what he grew up in. So there you go.
Like most preschool shows, the show sticks to a very tight formula: after the very catchy theme song welcoming us to the blue house and everyone inside it, the titular bear, a kind, gentle fellow played by Noel MacNeal welcomes the viewer.. .then sniffs them
Tumblr media
He then does something with one of the four children in his house. Naturally this being a kids show why Ojo the Bear (Vicki Ebner) , PIp and Pop future walter Peter Linz and Tyler Bunch) the twin otters, some sort of horrifying demon in the body of a lemur named Treelo who hangs out with Ojo lest it eat her soul,
Tumblr media
Tutter (linz). I did far more thinking than is sane or acceptable on this topic to try and figure out who was actually living here, why they were all here if some of them have relatives, what the fuck Treelo is and if their going to kill me in my sleep while the last one will likely haunt me into madness, I did come up with the answers to
What's Bear's Legal Guardian Status For These Children
Ojo I assume is Bear's daughter, adopted or otherwise, who he shares custody with someone else, as she apparently sleeps over in one episode, so she dosen't apparently live there for whatever reason. Maybe he and her mother divorced, maybe she died and her grandparents take her on weekends, maybe hse does live there and they just played sleepover. I don't know, i'd have to watch more episodes. I"m going with Emma's suggestion for Tutter: that he just came with the house and while he does have a grandma and uncle, they may just not be able to take care of him full time or knew he was squatting in a big blue house, and let Bear adopt him. He is the only one fully confirmed to live in the house, as he has a tiny hole with a tiny toilet and everything. For the twins, I assume Bear simply looks after them: they do have grandparents who show up in the intro for the christmas ep and then in no other part of it and their otter pond is nearbye. My guess is since, according to wikipedia, the two run the town library, they need someone to look after their kids during the day and bear being basically jesus but a bear in both senses of the word, gladly does so. Finally we have Ojo, some ratty squeaky voiced nightmare. Picture elmos voiced but pitched up, on a mountain of cocaine and nigh incomprehinsible. If your not recoling in terror your stronger than I. Ojo I see as kind of like the collector from Owl House: a cosmic entity with the mind of a child. And as such while my reaction to her screeching voice and desire to take all things from everyone is
Tumblr media
Bear is trying to raise her right so she dose'nt kill us all one day. He truly is our own personal jesus. Our star jesus given his parents are the sun and the moon. Don't ask questions.
Anyways after that cul de sac…
Back to the Formula
So bear usually visits shadow, a living shadow whose owner.. died I guess? I don't know, but she and bear are close friends and she might have a thing for him given she gives him a smooch in the christmas ep. We'll never know. Shadow usually brings a video for bear, they watch it , and she saunters off. I like shadow a lot being adorable, kind and energetic.
Bear will then get back to the topic/problem of the day, stuff sure does happen, then we end the episode with Bear visiting what I assume to be his mom the Moon as she's known him his whole life. Otherwise it's just creepy. He recaps the episode, they sing an adorable goodbye song and now you knwo the plot. IT's simple and while it got a tad repetitious after four times, though the christmas ep helped with it's serious overarching story, I get that younger kids LOVE repetition as much as Bear loves honey, and that this seris ultimately wasn't aimed at grown men. It's perfectly lovely to watch, having great puppetry, fun characters aside from that thing lurking in the dark waiting to summon it's brothers the lords in black, and beautiful music. It's just aimed at a much younger audience and wasn't made with multidemographic appeal in mind like most cartoons I watched. It was made to edcuate and soothe young children without talking down to them, with a calm wise mentor doing so. It does that excellently. As for what I thought about each episode and what dumb jokes I can make about each episode… let's see
Tumblr media
Share, Bear (Season 1)
Share Bear follows Bear as he collapses finding out the tragic bloody history of Bear Sauske's older brother while he prepares to burn the world and Ojo, realizing she can't fix his bloody path, prepares to sacrifice herself ot kill him. Oh wait tha'ts something else i've been consuming. No this one follows the kids as they have various squabbles Bear breaks up through compromise getting them to share. The first is Ojo and Mouthface, the beast of a thousand nightmares, who are arguging as Green Machine wants to consume Snow Bear, Ojo's cuddly toy. Bear uses a game I swore he was making up but didn't, snow bear in the woods, to get them to share.. and to teach Ojo not to consume the innocent I assume.
Next up is Tutter who makes a big sandwich that sure looks good. Bear wants to eat it, but Tutter says no so like the cool dude he is, Bear backs off. Pip and Pop, being two little schemers, do not back off and keep pressuring tutter. Bear, not getting boundaries forces Tutter to share, but agrees to get Pip and Pop to share their apples. As you can see i'm not really fond of this one as while I belivie sharing is nice, sometimes your stuff.. is just your stuff. Like a sandwich that probably took you two hours to make because your a tiny little guy. It's okay to OFFER to share and good too, but you shoudln't force it on someone.
Finally he has to break up a fight between all four as they all want the attic, because to a kid the attic is either spooky as hell and full of crown molding spiders… or the coolest place ever and full of crown molding and spiders. Bear gets them to visit the picnic, all is well, this episode is pretty good. The next two are better but it has a simple lesson it mostly dosen't botch. It is nothing however compared to the next episode which is paticuarlly famous why…?
Tumblr media
When You Gotta Go (Season 2)
BECAUSE THIS ONE'S ABOUT THE BATHROOM
… i'm not exaggerating. This one has Bear teaching kids about the potty. They use the term potty more than your average episode of Rugrats. It is everywhere. It's valid for the target audience and done with care, teaching kids not to hold it and that accidents happen to everyone. And look i'm not usually a big toilet humor guy.. but a bear singing about the potty for two minutes broke me. I suppressed a laugh so hard not because I had to but because my mother who works from home (and yes who I live with at 30), was downstairs and can hear it when I laugh loudly as this deserved. There's also Shadows song which is just singing about how good the potty is. This episode wasn't OUTLOUD hilarious but it's hard not to.
Like I said though the aseop is well done and relatable even at 30: Everyone's held it for stupid reasons, everyone had an accident as a kid (and sometimes as an adult when your sick), and it's valid to tell little kids that you NEED to just take a break and pee when you gotta or that if you miss the toilet it happens as long as you tried, and HOW to go about both things. It's not something that really takes a lot of depth and nuance from me to disect, but it's well done tv and I can see why this stuck with emma.
Despite the subject I can't even riff on it TOO much as it meant well and was trying to edcuate kids. Sure hearing that "your mom and dad" had a potty made me giggle like a child, but MOSTLY this episode avoids any sort of weird stuff.
That being said.. there is one thing we have to talk about in detail: Bear's toilet. Now he has a toilet sized for Ojo, for the otters, and one in tutter's mousehole. A little guy toilet. But as far as I can tell the rest of the bathroom is not sized for bear. And bear is well.. bear sized. Like the puppet is a guy in a full body suit. It's how he showed up on many things including hollywood squares, which I will HAVE to review next year as a clip of one ep he was on showed it also featured Macho Man randy savage. I never knew Randy Savage interacted with a muppet, but now I do it's all I can think about.
Point is he's a big boy. At best if he poops in this toilet it's going to cause a disaster that goes down in the history books and my therapists notebook. I get as Emma postulated he's probably too polite to make a fus about it but it's his house. Just install a fourth toilet bear. The cleanup isn't worth it. We all love and worry about you bear! Quit shitting on a toilet too small for you! You deserve better! your raising four children and the spawn of chtulu. GET YORUSELF A GROWN BEAR TOILET.
Or maybe he poops in the woods. I dunno. Solid episode. Could've used one more song.

A Berry Blue Christmas
Our last ep for today is a great one and a Christmas one. Yes it creeps in earlier every year don't it?
This episode got way more serious than I was expecting.. and it's not like say, the bear gets scabies and the kids all have to deal with the ramifications, it's more that it tackles an issue I didn't expect a show for toddlers to tackle, but one i'm glad it does and does so with maturity, grace and civility some shows meant for way older viewers lack on the topic: homelessness.
The episodes center around Jack, an elderly dog who Bear finds howling in the woods and takes in, and who turns out to be of course homeless. It's done well with the kids being confused and shocked and poor tutter being terrified by the idea, even singing a whole song about it complete with an utterly heartwrenching black and white vision of a homless tutter worrying if his friends can find him. Bear assures him of course he'll always have a home here, but it's still sobering and tackles what most kids probably would feel at that age realizing this is a thing that happens and it's horrible.
It's also nice just how much compassion the show has: not suprising, it's a very lovely show, but it shows that someone whose homeless is what they are: just a person without a home struggling to get by and who needs warmth and love. Jack consequently is a good boy, being kind to the kids, and fine they didn't get him a gift as gladly welcoming him into their home, feeding him and including him in thier activities is enough, and he even helps the kids make a present for bear as they didn't know what to get the man who has everything. The story was all out of alien dream plants.
Another thing I can give the show over MANY adult shows tackling the same topic… is that they DON'T just abandon Jack after this episode. While he gets a happy ending, Doc Hog, a local hog I swore was the show gaslighting me when they opened with half a dozen characters we hadn't seen before, many ff whom barely factor into the episode or in the case of tip and tup's grandparents, not at all, adopts him and gives him a home, he dosen't just vanish. Looking into it he shows up at least once next season running the fire station. Most episodes that do an aseop tend to forget the character exists for convivences sake but it took a show aimed at toddlers to realize "Hey people will notice this person vanished".
Jack is also played by David Goetz, aka Gonzo, and I had to look up who as while Goetz uses that voice a decent amount, I didn't know who did it exactly. I did recognize it from this threatning pig who lives rent free in my head though.
youtube
The special also welcomes all holiday cultures. While primarily about christmas, like most specials at the time it also covers Hannukah and Kwanza. I honestly miss that and wish more shows would do more than just christmas, with The Ghost and Molly McGee being the only one in recent memory I can think of. If you know more please feel free to tell me. Nothing wrong with christmas, as my usual holiday deluge of reviews will show, it's just said deluge also shows it's the most covered of any holiday and there are others like ramadan that have'nt gotten a special i'm aware of. The songs are both for diffrent holidays and it's nice.
We also have bears own bearcentric tradition the winter berry hunt, a hunt for one berry based on a bear long ago finding only one berry and splitting it. It's also how jack gets a home as the twins use their wish for him because he's a very good boy.
Some final notes the twins ask for millions and millions of clams in the christmas gift asking song. THEY NEED CLAMS, INFINITE CLAMS, CLAMS TO DROWN OUT THE SCREAMS AS THEY BUILD THEIR CLAMOCRACY. THE FUTURE. IS. CLAM.
Also the Goodbye Goodbye song includes, depsite it's joyful tone, homeless tutter and the kids worrying about not having a present for jack. I couldn't stop laughing
Finally we have our ranking as thanks to Letterboxd having this special, I can include it in our list along with the toilet episode since they both had vhses!
Tumblr media
So that's goodbye goodbye from me, and i'll see you pretty soon I know… as next time we cover MUPPETS FAMILY CHRISTMAS. Muppets, Seasame Street, Fraggle Rock. All under one roof. Be there and thanks for reading.

Theme songs for the ericsons >:)
Okay so we tried our best to pick songs we associate with or feel fitting with each Ericson kid. We put the song title, artist, and a few lyrics that felt on point.
First, though we figured we do one that seemed right for the Ericson kids as a whole and that's How Far We've Come by Matchbox Twenty. "I'm waking up at the start of the end of the world. But it's feeling just like every other morning before. Now I wonder what my life is going to mean if it's gone." "Can you tell me what was ever really special about me all this time?"
Clem: One Foot by WALK THE MOON "Taking this one step at a time. I got your back if you got mine. One foot in front of the other."
Louis: One Little Slip by Barenaked Ladies "I guess, I probably took the wrong direction. Well, I admit I might have missed a sign or two. I ran a light past your affection. At humiliation avenue." "I get the feeling in this town. I'll never live 'til I live down. The one mistake that seems to follow me around. But they'll forget about the sky when they all realize this guy's about to try to learn to fly or hit the ground."
Violet: Easily by Grimes "Fly through the night, fly like everyone I know" "When you leave, I feel so defeated" "You come and go but I love you so"
Marlon: Stressed Out by twenty one pilots "I was told when I get older, all my fears would shrink. But now I'm insecure and I care what people think." "Wish we could turn back time. To the good ol' days." "But now we're stressed out."
Brody: The Show by Lenka "I'm just a little bit caught in the middle. Life is a maze, and love is a riddle. I don't know where to go, can't do it alone I've tried." "Slow it down. Make it stop. Or else my heart is going to pop. 'Cause it's too much."
Mitch: I'm Still Here by John Rzeznik "I am a question to the world. Not an answer to be heard." "I'm a boy, no, I'm a man. You can't take me and throw me away." "And how can the world want me to change? They're the ones that stay the same."
Aasim: I See Fire the cover by Peter Hollens "If this is to end in fire then we should all burn together." "I see fire, blood in the breeze and I hope that you'll remember me." "And if the night is burning. I will cover my eyes. For if the dark returns then my brothers will die."
Ruby: Lonestar by Norah Jones "Lonestar, where are you out tonight? This feeling I'm trying to fight. It's dark and I think that I would give anything for you to shine down on me."
Sophie: That's Amore by Dean Martin. Yeah, it's more of a goofier option but hey we listen to it and it gives us Sophie vibes, well our version at least. She gets a happy song because it's what she deserves.
Minnie: Poor Wayfaring Stranger by Peter Hollen (feat. The Swingles) this one is a cover of the original "I am a poor wayfaring stranger. While traveling through this world of woe. But there's no sickness, toil, or danger. In that bright land to which I go."
Tenn: Into the West the cover by Peter Hollens "Night is falling. You've come to journey's end. Sleep now. And dream of the ones who came before. They are calling from across the distant shore." "Why do you weep? What are these tears upon your face? Soon you will see. All of your fears will pass away."
Willy: C'mon (with Fun.) by Panic! at the Disco "With everything fallin' down around me. I'd like to believe in all the possibilities. If I should die tonight. May I first just say I'm sorry. For I never felt like anybody. I am a man of many hats, although I never mastered anything."
AJ: On My Way by Phil Collins "Tell everybody, I'm on my way. New friends and new places to see." "Not the snow, not the rain can change my mind."
Omar: Le Festin by Michael Giacchino & Camille Yes, it's from Ratatouille but just listen to it and imagine Omar smiling while cooking. It's the perfect song for him.
James: Burning Pile by Mother Mother "All I tried to save my face. All my guts, try to spill" "It goes, all my troubles on a burning pile. All lit up an I start to smile."

Very biased ranking of all of the Fairy Tail Openings from best to worst
The order in which I'm ranking them takes into account my subjective taste, the level of replayability, sometimes also the animation that is going on during the opening sequence and just whatever comes to mind, feel free to fight me in the comments but this is my blog so i say I'm right. Mild disclaimer, I have not ever gotten past the middle or so of the second anime series, so I watched the later ops on youtube to rank them, but their places may be subject to change once I fully experience them when I get to those seasons.
This one is long so it goes under the cut for y'all
Strike Back (OP 16)
I AM RIGHT DON'T @ ME. THIS SHOULD'VE BEEN THE FIRST OP FOR THE FIRST RETURN OF FT. THIS SHIT FIRES ME UP. I CAN LISTEN TO IT OVER AND OVER, I WILL YELL SING AND NO ONE CAN STOP ME. BACK-ON KNOWS WHAT'S UP (<<<watched murder princess and got obsessed with the OP also made by back-on)
Snow Fairy (OP 1)
ICONIC. A CLASSIC. POINTS FOR BEING THE FIRST OP AND MAKING ME NOSTALGIC BUT ALSO THE PICTURE OF NATSU HUGGING IGNEEL AT THE END I- 🥺🥺🥺 In conclusion, really amazing first opening for the series
Towa no Kizuna (OP 9)
This fucker slaps SO HARD. It HYPES ME UP. And the visuals are spot on. I would rave to this.
Ft. (OP 3)
Amazing OP it's the reason why I became interested in Funkist. It fits Natsu perfectly even if this is an erza centric arc. Looking at the lyrics though, it still goes along with the theme of "we're here to support you" that Erza has going on. My only gripe is that when listening to the short version that plays every episode you can't appreciate how good the latter bridge is
Yakusoku no Hi e (OP 14)
For the last opening of first series, it's very good. I know most of the lyrics and i will belt out to it.
Ashita wo Narase (OP 22)
ok I'd never listened to this one but I dig it??? very interesting vibes, not what i expected from ft and especially from the zero arc, it slaps
Never-End Tale (OP 20)
Almost iconic. I think it lacks a little bit of strength, mostly due to the animated sequence, but it would've been an excellent season-ending OP. I do prefer listening to the full version, it has what's missing from the TV version. It also gets points for showing my wife in demon form <3
Tenohira (OP 12)
I do not like the Key of the Starry Sky arc, but the opening? Very nice, love me some 2000s soft rock
Egao no Mahou (OP 5)
It's pretty decent, i feel there's a lot of emotion in the singer's voice and I love to see Wendy introduced.
Believe in Myself (OP 21)
Very solid OP, not much to say though since it came out around the time I had quit the anime, but is definitely in the better part of OPs. I like the focus on Gray and Natsu during the sequence.
Yumeiro Graffiti (OP 19)
It's fine but nothing out of the ordinary. Replayable for a while. Sidenote, I think this one has a bit of a spoiler in the animated sequence, cause lucy is staring melancholically at Aquarius' key but an anime-only fan wouldn't know that it gets broken.
No-Limit (OP 25)
Interesting beginning??? idk how I feel about it but it's another solid op with a great sequence, I might end up really liking it when I get to this point
Evidence (OP 7)
I enjoy the piano and the first few verses are good, but I feel it doesn't have as much impact and it could do more. Very skippable. The animated sequence and the audio sync up very nicely tho.
Masayume chasing (OP 15)
I like it but not for extended periods of time and I do not think it serves the purpose of making the series return with a bang. Besides, there's something about this song that I find kind of…odd? like maybe it's because of the particular type of pop it is but idk, feels like this was a song that already existed and they just decided "yes, let's put it in this anime"
Sense of wonder (OP 2)
It's fine, but not that special in my opinion, I cannot listen to it over and over with each episode bc it does start getting tedious fast. However, I do think it helps represent the whimsy of the first few arcs when Fiore is supposed to still be new and "wonderful" for us. It also does serves its purpose of showing some of team Natsu's background in the opening sequence.
RPG (OP 4)
I get tired of listening to it very fast. It was ranked lower but then I listened to all the OPs and realized it's ok. Another mid OP. Also, I don't really understand why it's titled "Rocking Playin Game" and I need to know the reason behind that decision.
More than Like (OP 26)
I've mixed feelings about it, the combination of softer music with stronger rock parts doesn't mix particularly well in some parts, but is not bad and it's definitely better than some others. However, I don't think it lives up to what I would expect from the last OP.
I wish (OP 10)
It's…meh. I feel it is trying to energize people but failing miserably, perhaps the issue is the low volume. Can only listen to it a few times before skipping it.
Power of the Dream (OP 23)
First OP of the final season and it's not bad but I don't feel the impact it should have. The sequence is excellent. It unfortunately suffers from THAT ONE REPEATED BEAT THAT WAS USED IN ALMOST EVERY FUCKING SONG DURING 2016
Down by Law (OP 24)
Lame and boring. When I get to that season I will most likely listen to it once and then skip it. The animated sequence is soooo good tho, how dare they
Mysterious Magic (OP 17)
Very generic, even the animation sequence feels generic and like it doesn't encompass the arc like other OPs did beforehand, makes sense tho cause it was for the corrupted celestial spirits filler arc which is the shittiest
Fiesta (OP 6)
Boring like the other Plus+ opening but I do like the chorus, however I cannot listen to it more than a few times. Also, considering that the second half of the O6 arc is a little more serious since all the shit is going down, i don't think the upbeat music is that suited for it
Break through (OP 13)
Similar opinion than with fiesta, it has some good bits and some meh bits, doesn't manage to be outstanding
Hajimari no Sora (OP 11)
I do not like +Plus, at least not enough to listen to a song repeatedly, but this song? This song SUCKS, just boring ass cords that go on forever, at least the Fiesta op has some spice going on for it
Rock City Boy (OP 9)
It sucks it's lame, I HATE the attempted rap. It's trying a certain style and it does not work, I cannot listen to it more than once.
Break Out (OP 18)
This one is soooo boring that I had forgotten it existed, I even misremembered the sequences as being part of the 17th OP. It tries to pick up pace in the chorus but it doesn't work. I was gonna put rock city boy as the worst but yknow what? this one fucking takes the last spot
Final thoughts:
FT has a bunch of meh OPs :/ I'm not saying they're all bad, but the "I want to yell-sing this song" factor is not present in a lot of them.

Behind the Playlist - Transformers: Prime Edition (Part 18 of 22: Smokescreen)
Link to the other posts in my Behind the Playlist series
✧ ✧ ✧
I have my issues with Smokescreen, but I think it’s fitting that he was Team Prime’s final recruit before the end of The War. He came at the right time. Somehow, the kid knew he was made for something pretty magnificent. Imagine that—being sent to your destiny across galaxies by the very bot you thought was the most boring hermit in existence. lol
Intended overarching themes and/or qualities: Adventurous Dreamer, Competitive Ambition, The Eager Hero
My personal favorite(s) from this playlist: Thunder, Superhero, Wake Me Up, Immortals, Rise, Livin Right, and Smoke
✧ ✧ ✧
Full song list and explanations under the cut:
Thunder by Imagine Dragons
“Just a young gun with a quick fuse / I was uptight, wanna let loose / I was dreaming of bigger things and / Wanna leave my own life behind / Not a "Yes sir", not a follower / Fit the box, fit the mold / Have a seat in the foyer, take a number / I was lightning before the thunder”
Zero by Imagine Dragons
“Hello, hello / Let me tell you what it's like to be a zero, zero / Let me show you what it's like to always feel, feel / Like I'm empty and there's nothing really real, real / I'm looking for a way out”
As Alpha Trion’s very bored personal bodyguard, Smokescreen waited not so patiently for his time to get out and take part in the fight for Cybertron. He felt like a zero compared to his peers, I’m sure.
Superhero by Simon Curtis
Smokescreen emerged from the Decepticon escape pod with a dream he’d carried for a long time—to be a hero in some way. I’d say he fulfilled that.
Wake Me Up by Avicii
“Feeling my way through the darkness / Guided by a beating heart / I can't tell where the journey will end / But I know where to start / They tell me I'm too young to understand / They say I'm caught up in a dream / Well life will pass me by if I don't open up my eyes / Well that's fine by me
So wake me up when it's all over / When I'm wiser and I'm older / All this time I was finding myself, and I / Didn't know I was lost”
Immortals by Fall Out Boy
I will forever associate this song with team work and found family thanks to Big Hero 6. Of all the members of Team Prime, I think it fits Smokescreen best.
Unstoppable by The Score
“We can be heroes everywhere we go / We can have all that we ever want / Swinging like Ali, knocking out bodies / Standing on top like a champion / Keep your silver, give me that gold / You will remember when I say / We can be heroes everywhere we go / Keeping us down is impossible / 'Cause we're unstoppable”
No Limits by Zayde Wølf
“I've been walking tall lately, nobody can hold me down / Things are moving like crazy, no, nothing can stop me now / I'm dreaming it, I'm dreaming it / I'm living big, I'm living big”
Rise by Will Shepard
This one captures Smokescreen’s enthusiastic ambition sprinkled with a little bit of a carefree attitude.
Livin Right by The Score
“This gotta be livin' right / The rhythm is so in time / Sparks ignite like kerosene / Writing out our history / This gotta be livin' right, yeah”
Don’t Wanna Be by The Score
“I don't ever wanna be someone who follows everybody else / When everyone is busy out chasing, I'll make another road myself / 'Cause I know I was meant for something more / There's gotta be something here worth fighting for”
Smokescreen certainly made another road for himself and found something worth fighting for (with a little help from Alpha Trion, of course).
Big Dreams by The Score, FITZ
This is the kind of song I’d imagine Smokescreen listening to during his time with Alpha Trion, especially if he was often put down by his comrades for not being in the “real fight.”
Here We Go by Clear Blue Fire
“Born ready, I was made to run / Won’t stop, I got what it takes / I won’t back down, now I’m rising up / I’m going all the way
Watch me now, I’m writing my name / I’m writing my name in the stars / Here we go, here we go / Let’s fly, I can feel it comin’ / Here we go, here we go / To the sky, now watch me runnin’ ”
Sky by Altrøx, Frosty
For whatever reason, this song gives me Smokescreen vibes.
Smoke by Hidden Citizens, HAYASA G, Kazu, Bryce Fox
“When you see smoke, what you gonna do? / Don't you wanna light that fuse? / Where you gon' go? When you see it in the sky? / Don't you wanna ride in the hype? / What you got to lose? Who you fighting for? / What will you do when you see smoke?”
For this song, I’ve decided on two interpretations: (1) Smokescreen being questioned by those who doubt his battle competence; (2) Smokescreen taunting his enemies.
The Future Is Golden by Oh The Larceny
“Slip into the moment / Yeah, I'm facing that mystery / It's my time to hold it / Can I make history? Yeah”
This entire song lines up perfectly with Smokescreen’s slight overconfidence, naïveté and youthful eagerness to make history in his own way. At least it paid off for him in the end.
Born to Live by About A Mile
Wake up! What are we waiting for? / We know that we were made for more / We're not living just 'cause we were born / There's no doubt about it / We were born to live / Born to live
✧ ✧ ✧
Notes:
This post series is in alphabetical order. Next up are Soundwave and Starscream.
As I add more songs to the playlist, I’ll update this post.

Orange Show+Movie
Hi! Welcome back to my blog! This time, we're in for a doozy.
Hold up. I'm not watching a sport anime? What alternate reality have we entered?
ORANGE SEASON 1
Just kidding. If there's one thing I love to watch as much as sports animes, it's animes that are guaranteed to make you cry. And boy did this one deliver.
Tumblr media
BACKGROUND
The morning her second year of high school begins, Naho Takamiya receives a letter addressed to herself from 10 years in the future. The letter states that the events that will occur over the next few months will leave her with insurmountable regrets. It also includes a list of monumental moments that Future-Naho wishes to change. Finally, the letter states the most important thing that Present-Naho should be is be kind and take care of new student Kakeru Naruse, because 10 years into the future, Kakeru is dead. The letter ends with Future-Naho saying that her biggest regret is the fact that she and her friends could have saved him. The show follows Naho as she tries her best to change Kakeru's fate, all while slowly falling in love with him.

REVIEW
I cry semi-often when I watch anime, but it's usually at random times. I can say will full honestly that this is the most I have ever cried over a TV show in my life. I cried in literally Every. Single. Episode. The art style for this show was perfect, even if they made Naho's eyes weirdly large at some points. The plot and storyline were phenomenal. I'm a huge advocate when it comes to mental health/illness and media that surrounds that topic always ends up hitting me really hard. This show was no exception. I really enjoyed how about halfway through the show, it was revealed that the rest of Naho and Kakeru's friend group also received letters from their future selves, telling them what actions to take to save his life. Knowing how the characters' future ends up and seeing if they can change it meant that I couldn't bring myself to look away from the screen for one second. Seeing each choice they characters had to make and the different consequences each action had led to a gripping story that had me audibly gasping and yelling a TV that can't hear me. My roommates had to come into my room multiple times to check up on me because I was having full-on breakdowns over this show. This truly was a masterpiece.
Tumblr media
BONUS: MOVIE
Imagine my joy when I finally finish drying my eyes and find that there's a movie sequel from the point of view of Hiroto Suwa, one of Naho and Kakeru's friends who ended up marrying Naho in the original future (a fact that everyone but Naho and Kakeru knew through the events of the original series). The movie is essentially just a retelling of the show from Suwa's perspective, but it does include a few new scenes from both the original future and the future that exists after they saved Kakeru. This one wasn't as sad, but it still packed an emotional punch; dealing with lost love, selflessness, and putting others' happiness before your own. I will admit that I also cried to this one.
Tumblr media
SIGN OFF
When I started this blog, I thought it would be enjoying the shows that interest me. This show had gone above and beyond, it may have just changed my life. I had tried to watch this show sometime last year but after about 2 minutes, I just couldn't stay interested. All I remember is I liked the theme song and downloaded it. Finally watching the show now, I will probably never stop thinking about it. It's the kind of show where every so often, I'll think of a scene from it and be overwhelmed with emotion while I'm putting away groceries or answering a question in class. It's more than I ever could have imagined.

TORRES, My Brightest Diamond, & Aisha Burns Live Show Review: 1/18, Lincoln Hall, Chicago
Tumblr media
TORRES' Mackenzie Scott
BY JORDAN MAINZER
Many times throughout TORRES' set Thursday night at Lincoln Hall, Mackenzie Scott remarked how polite the audience was. While we're from the Midwest and are certainly very nice, I think we were just enraptured. First and foremost, Scott is an intense songwriter whose lyrics are diaristic, who puts her whole body into her guitar playing. Live, she demands attention. You never know when she's going to scream--she chose a good moment on "Helen in the Woods"--or show vulnerability with a creaky falsetto, like on love devotional "Gracious Day". Meanwhile, her scraggly guitars followed her vocal delivery on "Skim", as she shredded, leaning towards the crowd. Her atonal laying on "Sprinter" provided a sharp contrast to J.R. Bohannon's shimmery pedal steel. Over 10 years into playing as TORRES, traversing aesthetics and soundscapes, Scott has developed the stage presence to match the ferocity of the songs themselves.

But then there was another reason we wanted to remain silent and soak it all in: the new TORRES songs from What an enormous room, out this Friday via Merge. For many in the crowd, this past Thursday was the first time hearing tunes bound to become new favorites in the catalog. I watched smiles form on the faces of folks realizing the plucky "Jerk into joy" will become an anthem, as Scott sang, "What an enormous room / Look at all the dancing I can do!" As as it was the band's second night playing these songs on tour, each member relished their opportunities to stand out, from Rosie Slater's driving drums on "Forever home" to Erin Manning's fried synths on "Happy man's shoes". Towards the end of the set, someone yelled, "Play 'Honey'!," referring to the song that made many of us fall in love with TORRES' music in the first place. They never played it. Had this been the last time TORRES played Lincoln Hall, I might have walked away disappointed. But years later, 6 records in, Scott's catalog runs deep enough that the supposed enormity of "Honey" is a small hike compared to the canyon sounds of her most recent material.

Opening for TORRES was two artists who haven't released full-length albums since 2018 but are experimenting live with new material: My Brightest Diamond, the long-running chamber folk project of singer-songwriter Shara Nova, and multi-instrumentalist/former Balmorhea member Aisha Burns. Nova played solo, using percussion backing tracks and samples, walking out to the audio clip of the late, great Sinead O'Connor saying, "Fight the real enemy" on Saturday Night Live after tearing a picture of Pope John Paul II following her a capella rendition of Bob Marley & The Wailers' "War". Many of Nova's songs, both new and old, responded to O'Connor's fearless spirit. Nova's vocals were show-stopping on "Fight the Real Terror (for Sinead)", controlled over the harmonics of the recorded drums on "Imaginary Lover". Finger-snapping new single "Black Sheep" expanded on themes of ostracization and its oft-permanence even when the court of public opinion changes its mind, pertinent to O'Connor's story. In context, All Things Will Unwind standout "Be Brave", too, acted in spirit with Nova's newer material. "Imagine all the flutes and bass clarinets," Nova quipped to old-school My Brightest Diamond fans, but she didn't need to ask us; lines like, "Shara, this is going to hurt," tugged at our emotions more than any instrumentation could.
Tumblr media
Woodruff & Burns
Really, it was up to Aisha Burns to yield happy tears from instruments. Accompanied by guitarist Jake Woodruff, she graced us with atmospheric loops, violin, guitar, and falsetto vocals. Songs from 2018's Argonauta (Western Vinyl) hypnotized the crowd, the dual guitar sway of "I Thought I Knew You Well" and impassionedly picked and sung "We Were Worn". And yes, she performed her great cover of Chris Isaak's "Wicked Game", her vibrato and vocal harmonies with Woodruff standing tall against the sensuousness of the original. The performance got me excited for whatever comes next for Burns, whether original material or more clever covers.
