#i have never understood the character = actor thing#like genuinely i dont fucking get it at all#if anything i think it both discredits the actors effort and the people that actually created the medias efforts#actors very rarely have anything to do with the characters creation nor do they have anything to do with a character outside of portraying#them like tbh i feel like its a massive insult to the work that goes into acting and writing#plus i just dont really care for actors personally#but thats just a me thing#idk!!! charlie cox does not equal matt murdock he had nothing to do with creating matt murdock#or like cillian murphy as jonathan crane#i dont like jonathan crane because he looks like cillian murphy i just like jonathan crane#like yeah he did a great job with acting in the trilogy and portrayed him great#but cillian murphy doesnt have any of the traits i like in jonathan crane idgaf about that guy aside from like two roles hes done#i dont know man#i just feel like itd be shitty to put months or years into the creation of media#into method acting and portraying these characters with the help of writers and directors#just for characters to not be acknowledged as seperate from their actors#idk. like jonathan crane is played by cillian murphy they have the same face whatever#but that is in no way shape or form the same guy at ALLLLL#idk. also fucks with fandom portrayals of characters#i.e booktok white women projecting poorly written smut onto every middle aged man ever#like you dont look at animated media and equate that character to their VA why would you do it for live action shit#you dont look at writers work and equate their characters to themselves#uuugggggghhhhh#plus i think the film idustry in general tends to give actors too much credit for the creation of media#not to say actors do nothing because they definetly do im interested in acting myself#but brother they r not the ones that direct and write and edit and sound mix and all this other shit#skyler posting#soigh#anyways

to be honest if my only knowledge of sokka as a character was informed by how the fandom discusses and portrays him i think i would straight up hate him. like it wouldn’t even be a “whatever i don’t care about this guy” response i would legitimately be like “this fucking clown needs to get blown up with tnt right now”

My essay is (mostly) finished, I am moved back home, and it's five am so I have to go to sleep cause my circadian rhythm is shot to all hell, but tomorrow I return!
Shit I wanna do so yall should pester me about it: Write up my meta about Unalloyed Gold being a textile not a metal, write up what I think happened to Miq and Mal's shadows cause I'm absolutely convinced I've figured it out, write some starters maybe, ponder a workshop on character bleed and boundaries (putting my game design degree to work lmaooo), set up a thread tracker, update my verses pages, and maybe even figure out wtf is going on anymore.

ally's wet hot smut summer
i would try and do this all fancy but i am not always the most graphically inclined. so this is basically kinktober but in the summer and stretched out over two months so i don't take on too much.
basically pick your day and pick your character/person and i will write it. if there is enough interest i will do four days that are double dips. now, day sixteen is a free day/free space where once the first 15 are filled, whoever wants that can go for it and pick the kink and if i'm okay writing it, i will. also within reason i might be able to work a kink into a specific verse as i did with my austin and dove/priscilla reader requests during kinktober.
only rule i'd like to make is one request per person- at least until this has been up for 24 hours. people who i write for are in the tags plus, and these four are mildly iffy so pick them at your own peril: wil ohmsford from shannara chronicles, hangman and rooster from top gun and mccoy from star trek ( i do err more to the kelvin timeline/aos/the karl urban portrayal as a warning, i'm also capable of writing not reader fic with him but idk all of y'alls taste because it's not the normal fandom y'all are used to. ) i'm also willing to attempt an elvis movie character or two so hey if you want to surprise me with a request for one of them i won't complain.
day one. cuckolding with steve x reader x elvis
day two. marking with sub wil ohmsford ( double dip: biker austin )
day three. mommy or daddy kink with selkie! elvis
day four. praise kink with austin butler
day five. degradation with austin butler
day six. titty fucking with rooster
day seven. uniform kink with army elvis
day eight. threesome/moresome with austin elvis x steve x reader ( double dip: elvis x jerry x reader x possibly sandy )
day nine. breeding kink with 70s elvis - specifically big daddy
day ten. knife or gun kink with big daddy elvis
day eleven. public play with big daddy elvis ( double dip: 50s/early 60s elvis )
day twelve. virginity/innocence kink with austin butler
day thirteen. period sex or breastfeeding kink with selkie elvis
day fourteen. housewife kink with spark universe elvis and lilly
day fifteen. religious kink/priest kink with '68 elvis
day sixteen. requester's choice with possession/possessive kink with 50s elvis ( double dip: threesome with movie based 60s elvis x priscilla x reader and facefucking with inexperience 50s elvis )

Hey batman/batfam people, I wanted to talk about something. I know this might not be received well, but...this is my blog. So if you disagree with me, feel free to block me! Literally that's what's great about this site. (I've been trying to do so on my end, but I thought I'd reach out a bit.....idk maybe try to form some understanding?)
I have been a batman fan since like...age 13 or something. Batman as a character means so fucking much to me, as does all his kids and massive extended family. (can't forget Alfred, Kate, Lucius, and Jeff Gordon!!) And I know that they mean a lot to you guys too.
In comic book and fandom spaces we talk a lot about misrepresentation of characters in fandom, but even in "canon" or rather published/produced content. I have beef with a lot of live action adaptions of Batman for example.
The thing with comic book characters, even more than some fandoms/pieces of media, is that there is SO MUCH content out there, that two people can say they like this one character but those two versions might be in total contradiction. But does that make one right over the other? does that make one superior?
Now, I hate Ben Affleck's Batman. And to fans of his, I'd say, you want the punisher, not Batman, because to me, that goes against who Batman is fundamentally. I read the comics, watch a lot of the animated stuff, and formed my own opinion and version of Batman. However, and this seems to be a controversial take, i really enjoy Wayne Family Adventures.
I see a lot of hate on here for WFA (and on tiktok but they're another beast), which, it's not for everyone, that's okay! Not everyone has to like what I like. But what I don't agree with, is that people who like WFA are seen as "not true batman fans", "they haven't ever read a comic". "they only like the flat fanon versions of the characters", etc.
These comments I would like to rebut- some comic readers such as myself might enjoy WFA. There might be people that have never read a comic or even watched anything batman related but like WFA. Are they not valid to enjoy that and have their own fandom for that? Are they not allowed to be fans of Batman?
I also would ask, how much of WFA did you actually read? In it's nature, it's suppose to be the bat family on their time off, or more light stories, but it actually addresses things like Jason's trauma, Duke moving in to the Manor, Damian struggling to fit in at school, things like that. Now if you read pretty far and still didn't like the portrayal of the characters, that's fine, I'm not asking you to change your opinion, however I am asking you to make space for those who do enjoy it, or that WFA is their first introduction or only experience with the Batman and co.
WFA isn't perfect, but it holds a special place in my heart, and gives me more content for Not Perfect but Trying and Cares Dad Bruce Wayne which I am grateful for. And tbh I feel like it just shows other sides to the characters we don't see that often!
And again, obvi people have their opinions, I guess I'm just asking for us to be more aware and create a space where people can feel free and excited to talk about these characters that we all love. I enjoy content and discussions I see in the tags and different blogs but then I see the hate for WFA fans and it just puts a real damper on otherwise really good content.
Anyways, thanks for reading!

Hello! I recently found your account, and I went on scrolling down and down...and now I hope you know how grateful I am. Thank u- Merci. About 90% of the content you share here has made me feel so much better. I realllyy hope wonderful things happen for you. I've been a fan of hp since 2001, but I'm not really a social media person so I haven't been active in the fandom. I had no idea what was happening here until recently..two months ago to be exact (other details are not important) and omg.. I ended up in a discussion with some I think, new fans. tbh I thought, "Great! I'm good at this, I read all the books more than once Let's talk :)"  and omg their very first question was "What do you think about Regulus?"
I was like, "Who?" *dying from secondhand embarrassment bc It turns out I'm not that good at this
but as the discussion continued, I became more and more baffled bc "Why was everyone talking about Barty, Evan, and Regulus? who is daddy Remu? and what do you mean people ship James Potter with R.A.B.? What?"
I swear for a moment I thought "Did the writer publish a new book? Did I miss something? " tbh, I respect everyone's opinion it's none of my business but I'm still shocked. The only thing that bothers me is everything that happened with this new Wolfsar
omg, for most fans around my age (or at least people I know), Sirius was the complete portrayal of a bad boy- a rebel, with boots, tattoos, a leather jacket, and a fucking motorcycle. so this new Sirius is like a stranger to me, and that's okay. Mein issue is kinda with this new Remus T T my beloved .
They (the fans I was talking with) told me Remus is "tall, so handsome, SO strong, and hot-headed person because,  yk he's a werewolf." I was like "hot headed? excuse me?" I tried to explain to them that Remus being a werewolf is a metaphor for illnesses like HIV, it's not some superpowery gift.  they didn't believe me, but then they literally looked me in the face and said, "Then why would Sirius like someone like him? He's poor, short, and ugly." I swear I wanted to cry right then and there.
What is this mindset that makes some people think that a person should be, Idk, hot and flawless to deserve to be loved? Yes I don't think Remus is tall and super hot and perfect and isn't it fine? and I am 100% sure he's so beautiful. not like Sirius ofc but he has this "warm, cozy, and soft" sort of beauty. and I don't think he was a coward (ok maybe he was a liitle) but I guess it's easier for us, humans, to take the worst or weakest moment of a character and amplify it until it defines them entirely. and omg I'm so sorry for my rant and my bad english. but once again thank you for your beautiful soul <3 thank you
Hi anon! I, too, am baffled by the recent obsession with Regulus in this fandom. I think Jegulus is fine as a crack ship, but it has become so mainstream that many fans have just gone ahead and canonized it to the point that you'll be vilified for not accepting it as canon. I underestimated how popular the "best friend's brother" trope was, apparently. I also think it appeals to many fans as a Marauders Era version of one of the most popular ships of all time, Drarry.
This new version of Wolfstar is my biggest complaint with today's fandom, too! I get that the Marauders have very limited canon information and therefore we have more creative freedom to flesh them out, but I really believe that it has gone way too far. Sirius and Remus in today's fandom don't bear any resemblance to the characters they're based on. Remus is just a generic alpha werewolf OC and Sirius is his generic himbo femboy love interest OC. They don't even share a physical description with their Canon counterparts, and their personalities and character traits are so far removed that I can't even fathom how we reached this point as a fandom. How can you claim to like these characters if you have to change everything the source material says about them?
You're English is great, by the way! I completely agree that Remus has a cozy-and-warm sort of beauty. He made a point to distance himself from the stigma surrounding Lycanthropy because it was the focal point of his shame and self-loathing. And I just adore Wolfstar's dynamic from this lens, with the intimidatingly beautiful, confident, headstrong Sirius Black, who could have his pick of anyone he wants, choosing this ordinary guy because he's cozy and soft and it's exactly what Sirius wants after surviving the harsh ideals and abuse of House Black.

oh hey :) thanks for the kind comments and tags left under the last post!
it's so wild how body hair in art & media in general is seen as something "disgusting" or "weird", at first i thought that maybe the way i drew it made it look confusing but no way in hell you couldn't zoom in or just... think logically to know that is natural hair? some people are hairy like that! the way i draw it is more fluffy yes because i love floof and i dont give a shit tbh lol
i knew about the "issue" of jevil being fat so the body hair one threw me for a loop like wow. idk why jevil specifically gets this type of treatment, maybe other fat characters in utdr do too but i always see toriel, asgore, alphys, lancer, king, catti, sans who is a skeleton (and i really can't see him any other way, the fandom is doing a great job in keeping him chubby-like i love that) drawn with mostly correct proportions to in game/official art, yet jevil seems to get this mixed reaction. idk why i still see skinny jevil, or why some people insist his clown clothes are just "baggy". the jester is circular, look at his torso please for the love of god. sorry but i just want more fat rep as a fat person myself. i want jevil to remain short (his sprite is shorter than kris and slightly taller than spamton) and fat like he is in game!
drawing him helped me understand a lot about plus size anatomy, and honestly i couldn't be more happy about that because i'm also dealing a lot better with my body image issues and finally bringing more diversity to my art. him being hairy too is yet another thing that makes me happy as someone with pcos, and portraying him as a fat, hairy trans man as someone who is nonbinary and for months has been wanting to experiment with different pronouns/wondering how it would be like to transition is something really special. it's messy and silly but spamton and jevil are the ultimate comfort characters/ship to me, their stories and how they were written speak volumes and resonate with me a lot + headcanoning them as t4t has been beyond freeing and making me get a lot of gender euphoria/dysphoria/envy all at the same time lmfao what the fuck.
i'm honestly glad for these characters because they're what helped me articulate my recent feelings about my gender to my mother, who has grown a lot and is making an effort to understand all of this. the reaction i sometimes get from people who talk to me, come into my inbox or just pour their feelings out in the tags about how they love my portrayal of spamton and jevil's gender identity + their relationship and how important it is to them is so so cool. yeah :)
speaking of chest hair, here's how spamton looks without the shirt. the left side of his chest has a panel for his heart (a smaller version of neo's) and of course top surgery scars, a different type. he's also hairy! not that much since he's a puppet but he still has the addison floof, it's cute

So. I gotta say some shit.
I think we all have a tendency to be more gracious to Ada's character than she rightfully deserves. I'm guilty of this, too. We all want to give her the benefit of the doubt and insist that her character serves a purpose and is worth talking about because she's A. such a huge part of Leon's character and B. the only non-white member of the cast, but like.
There's nothing there.
I noticed this when I rewatched Separate Ways recently (because fuck ever playing that shit again holy fuck Separate Ways sucks to play).
After RE2, Ada isn't a character anymore. She has absolutely no arc; her character never develops or goes anywhere. She's not tied to anyone or anything in the plot in a way that matters -- even her relationship with Wesker doesn't fucking matter, because there's no fallout or consequence as a result of anything she does to/with/for him, whether it's beneficial to him or against him. She has only one facet to her personality: snarky and mysterious. We never see her emote or speak in a context removed from either of those two qualifiers. Ever.
She has some softer moments here and there, but they last for like a single line of dialogue or two and then the scene just completely moves on without them -- so, those softer moments never actually matter anyway.
She doesn't enhance or enrich Leon's character in any way; the only thing her character serves to do is isolate him from the main cast, which gives his character nowhere else to go other than horrible, spiraling depression because every action he takes in his life turns out to be completely meaningless -- because it's not allowed to mean anything, because he's become so far divorced from the central plot of the series.
The only functional purpose that Ada Wong actually has is as a plot contrivance to explain how a bad guy did a thing. Other than that, she exists solely as a pair of legs and tits for Leon to chase after.
We all hold out hope that Remake is going to change this and turn her into a real person with autonomous motivations and goals, and there might be some merit to that, but like
She's not there yet. She's just not. There is no there there, when we talk about Ada's character.
And this tiptoeing around that we all do to try to make it seem like we're supportive of her character just
strikes me as silly a lot of the time, man.
I understand wanting to give credit where it's due, but it's not due for Ada's character. And I understand the desire to not be seen as misogynistically bashing her, but I feel like supporting her character as it currently exists is what's actually misogynistic. Because her portrayal in canon is misogynistic.
And I also understand the desire to not be seen as being a ship war fuckhead, but like. It's not about the ships, man. It's about Ada. Specifically Ada. She just sucks, dude.
And this is coming from the person who has probably written more meta about Ada Wong in an attempt to justify her character than basically anyone else in the fucking fandom.
idk I've just been thinking about this lately while perusing EagleOne fics. It feels like everyone in this ship feels obligated to address The Ada Problem before they can start to justify a relationship between Leon and Ashley, and it's like
No, you don't. Especially in Remake canon, you absolutely do not have to bring up Ada at all. Because Remake seems very self-aware of the fact that the problem with Leon's character has always been Ada, which is why they seem to be actively writing her out of his overall arc.
Like. Let's just call it for what it is. Ada is the worst part of Leon's character. The relationship is poorly written and poorly executed and doesn't make any fucking sense for who both characters are actually meant to be. They actively hold each other back -- not as people, but as characters who are meant to meaningfully contribute to the storyline.
And idk I'm just tired. I'm just tired of always having to do the hand-wringy "oh no no, Ada's really cool and great and I'm not trying to diss on her, and her relationship with Leon actually matters" shit, man.
Because she's not cool or great and her relationship with Leon doesn't actually matter -- and if it does matter at all, it's due to the negative impact that her presence brings -- not just to him, but to the entire fucking plot of the series.
She's the worst recurring element in the entire series, and there's not even a close second.

It’s so interesting how spot-on you were with the thoughts about toxic Beaujes folxs fleeing to D20. The same person who’s been starting shit on twitter just found out that CR doesn’t allow mass-produced zines, and used that fact to make some batshit generalization about how “that’s why the fandom is corporatized and violent and racist towards any canon-contradicting fanon like all my beaujester friends told me and now I’m parroting it uncritically”.
So I think this might be my last post on this unless some more wild shit goes down (very possible) not because I disagree but just because I am also trying to be conscious of overshadowing my genuine excitement for The Ravening War. But yeah...like, I followed a few people who were CR fanartists until Beauyasha started happening and unfollowed them once that went down; it was extremely exhausting watching a bunch of (mostly white) people in their early 20s suddenly claim a show they'd watched over 200 episodes of was hopelessly problematic simply because their ship didn't happen. It was a truly vile combination of normal shipping drama plus appropriated social justice language about said shipping drama plus, as others have noted, middle-class white queer people [a demographic I fit into myself] shoving aside narratives about POC or working class people because they aren't explicitly queer narratives (or even narratives about queer people that aren't to their exact specifications of what queerness looks like; see people who refuse to respect Molly's pronouns or who erase Vax's bisexuality because he was primarily romantically involved with a woman).
The zine thing is fucking wild in particular for the following reasons:
The two CR-centric zines that person has mentioned as not ultimately moving forward were both zines that intended to pay the artists, ie, at least partially for profit rather than charity zines.
I am not personally in a creative industry but I've been reliably told by basically everyone who is that CR's policy is boilerplate.
CR has a pretty extensive history of showcasing and hiring fanartists; this is not opposition to fan content, which is how this wack job is attempting to portray it.
Similarly no one is devaluing fan content; they're just saying "you are throwing a big old hissy fit in public about the hypothetical scenario of The Ravening War not honoring a ship that has, and I am not joking here, six fics on Ao3 in total." (For reference: Lapin/Theo, a ship that person actively dislikes, has 56 works, which, idk I feel that's almost ten times as widely accepted fanlore.)
Their twitter currently is bragging about their cookbook zine (which as far as I know wasn't based in fanon but was just a cookbook with fanart in it) and not about their currently active charity zine (which is the one about Belizabeth and Citrina). Also that charity zine is available for free which really undercuts the "for charity" aspect. Anyway a cool thing to do is to not buy it, but just donate directly to the International Rescue Committee or your refugee-supporting charity of choice.
Anyway. This was an opportunity to rant a lot but I will leave you with this: I am not the right person, obviously, to enumerate every possible issue with CR's portrayal of characters of color nor the lack of diversity of the cast. I think discussions of racism and lack of representation in actual play are important to have. But it's telling that fanartists, specifically, who left CR over Beau and Jester not getting together but pretended this was about social justice, always seem to go to D20. Or NADDPod. Or Friends at the Table. Or have their art featured in the TAZ graphic novels. All majority white or entirely white main casts.
They rarely seem to go to, say, Rivals of Waterdeep, or Into the Motherlands, or Three Black Halflings (and those are still some of the better known examples, frankly). People complaining that Critical Role hates lesbians for having a lesbian relationship they didn't like never seem to check out The Broadswords, or use resources like this to find women-led actual play. It's about getting clicks; they want to find an existing fandom to adore them rather than use the power they claim to wield to popularize something underrated.
Anyway that's the last reason why I think I'm done for now: I think the best and most satisfying thing is to starve them of attention, and to enjoy the Ravening War and art and fic about it from fans who are happy to be here.

Kaneki for the character ask? 👉👈
My first impression: the reason i got into tg as much as i did. before i watched i hadnt watched a whole series since i watched death note bc i couldn't find a main character that was as interesting to me as light...and then i found KANEKI
My impression now: i still love him, especially once i read the manga. similar to how i was w death note, i haven't been able to get through another series since tg bc i can't find another mc that interests me as much as kaneki or light. he's so cool and fucked up what a silly guy
Favorite thing about that character: i love when they're insane (pt 400049589208520). i also feel like aggravatingly similar to him sometimes so that's always fun. analyzing him is like analyzing myself
Least favorite thing: analyzing him is like analyzing myself. also anime kaneki is...not as badass as manga kaneki lets leave it at that...
Favorite line/scene: where do i even start...ig this is more of a haise moment but it's also a kaneki moment lowkey at the beginning of re when he's going against nishio and haise is like losing his shit and brain kaneki is whispering in his ear yeah that was so cool and sent chills down me idk. also when he broke half of ayato's bones what a sick lil dude i love it
Favorite interaction that character has with another: back to the beginning of re when haise kinda switches into the kaneki personality when he's going against nishio and he says "i don't think you want to know me" and does the finger crack ooooh lemme tell you i was kicking my feet in bed at 4am watching that bc first i was like ohh its kaneki (as we know the anime doesn't explain shit) and then i was like if i was nishio i would run away bc that was so scary ooooh i love it
A character that I wish that character would interact with more: i think we needed more kaneki and hide interactions like i know we got a decent amount but like. there should have been more.
Another character from another fandom that reminds me of that character: im so bad at this ummm mello from death note bc the world beats them down and tells them theyre not good enough throughout their childhoods, so they grow up with this idea that they're always inferior and it eventually turns into rage but also a deep incurable loneliness. and if you go with the theory that kaneki actually died and was not saved by ayato at the end of the series (which i enjoy bc i love pain and suffering), then they both die alone unable to protect those they care for or fulfill what they think they're life's purpose is okay im gonna go cry now
A headcanon about that character: he definitely wrote fanfiction in middle school are we kidding
A song that reminds of that character: class of 2013 by mitski
An unpopular opinion about that character: did he really deserve a happy ending? he did a lot of bad things, mass murder, cannibalism, destroyed lives and families...but maybe i just love pain and suffering...i do want to see him happy too but i just.
Favorite picture:
Tumblr media
this was so hard because ishida's art is beautiful, but this had to be it. this kinda encompasses everything i love about ishida's art - the portrayal of emotion, the use of ink heavy pages to show tension and conflict, the despair, like its just so good

2, 3, 7, 8, 12 for Mr Katana Zero
2. Favorite canon thing about this character?
Idk there's lots to love... I played the game again recently so you'd think I'd have a better answer for this but rn I'm just going to say the small and subtle reactions in his sprite art that he has throughout the game. They make him so full of life
3. Least favorite canon thing about this character?
His living space but especially his fridge. I understand it but also. Horrifying
7. What's something the fandom does when it comes to this character that you like?
I honestly think a lot of the portrayals of him during teenagehood/the war are good... also the dedication to making him look really cool in terms of action in fanart. Full Confession drawings always fuck so hard
8. What's something the fandom does when it comes to this character that you despise?
Ship him with Fifteen in a way that completely strips both of their personalities away from each other. It happens frequently and it's always disappointing. Another thing would be when people use him as a self-insert for their power fantasies. You Are Not Katana Zero lmao
12. What's a headcanon you have for this character?
Ah I think that his voice is kind of hoarse because he speaks so little... he's not a silent protagonist as you know but it feels like the events of the game were a sudden and wild increase in terms of social interaction

Hi! Sorry to bother once again ^^" but- I wonder what do you think about general idea or concept of sparklings in fandom?
Hi, you're not bothering me! If anything, I appreciate getting asks because I tend to be rather lonely and appreciate getting fandom interaction.
Honestly, I don't like sparklings in Transformers for a variety of reasons.
They're a mechanical alien species, which presents tons of opportunities to give them weird anatomy, methods of reproduction, and cultural customs that are very different from humans. I feel like forcing sexual reproduction onto the alien robots is just kind of lame and doesn't make sense for robots
Especially when people basically end up fanoning entire characters as being parts of family or having children/being the children of other characters. At that point these characters are just metal humans rather than space alien robots.
I even dislike it when people push family-esque relationships onto Cybertronians. Like, they'll take jokes about Optimus being like a dad and act as if he's literally a father to idk Bumblebee and then start treating Bumblebee as if he's literally a child and not a fully independent/mature being. The fact that Cybertronians don't have families (except for rare instances of branched sparks/twins) removes a lot of social baggage from their character interactions and lets them interact on terms that are different/unique from humans. Not to even mention the stupid ass bullshit discourse that happens when people in this fandom decide that certain characters are "child coded" and start harassing people over shipping them with other characters even when the concept of children/childhood-vs-adulthood doesn't even exist in canon at all.
I also think that lorewise it doesn't fit in at all and even defeats the entire point of the plot in many ways? Like, for example, in IDW1 (and I think in TFA but I'm not sure) the fact that hotspots are fading and the species is no longer capable of reproducing is super important to the war's worldbuilding and showing just how fucked Transformers are that they're slowly killing each other off in a pointless war with very few opportunities to replenish their numbers. The Autobots and Decepticons get into a miniature arms race over who can find Nova's stores of cold-constructed sparks. There's an entire group of people called MTOs who were made with split-Matrix sparks and who were made just to be thrown into battles and die. If you add in sparklings/sexual reproduction then the entire worldbuilding element of "this species is driving themselves to extinction and their war is unsustainable in the long run" is completely destroyed.
Certain portrayals of family dynamics, children, and even certain things like breeding kinks or carriers vs sires just rub me the wrong way and come off as really gross. Literally one of the things I like about Transformers is that I can read fics without having to worry about tropes like surprise/unwanted pregnancies, baby traps, child abuse and related family trauma, pregnancy discrimination, misogyny, biological essentialism etc. because those things literally don't exist for alien robots. Except you would be surprised by how many times all of that shit shows up in sparkling/sexual reproduction fics and it just squicks me out really bad.
Like, I'm not gonna throw shade at ppl who like sparklings or say that all fics with sparklings/mentions of sparklings are bad. It's just really, REALLY not my thing and I will actively avoid any fics where sparklings exist unless it comes with extremely high recommendations.

20 Questions For Fic Writers
Tagged by @bahbahhh and @mistresslrigtar. thank you!!! i love this community <3
__
1. How many works do you have on AO3?
twelve (plus one I orphaned that we don't talk about)
2. What's your total AO3 word count?
433,003
3. What fandoms do you write for?
Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild/Tears of the Kingdom
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
From the Ground Up 🦅
Hateno Housemates 🏡
Finding Her 📱
have and hold ♨
On the Life of Queen and Consort 🖋
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
I try to, I really, really do, and I often forget. But I promise I read them all.
6. What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
I mean Link commits murder in this one
7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
Most of my endings are happy but I think Hateno Housemates is the fluffiest
8. Do you get hate on fics?
Not for a long, long time, and for that I'm very grateful. Got some less that positive comments on my portrayal of Zelda back in the day, when I myself was dealing with a lot of negative emotions and was feeding that into her a bit. But otherwise no
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
No, though I have tried. I deeply admire people who are great at it, because it's an artform unto itself. But it's not in my wheelhouse
10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?
All That Was Tangled Came Undone is an honestly somewhat mid cross over between BOTW and Kimi No Na Wa
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Nah. Probably not idk
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
No but it would be a wonderful honour.
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
No but I would love to!!!!!!!!!!!!
14. What's your all-time favorite ship?
I write Zelink ofc but look, I gotta give it up to the OGs, Spirk. None of us would be here if not for a repressed Vulcan and a swashbuckling starship captain from a 1960s scifi sitcom making fuck eyes at each other
15. What's a WIP you want to finish, but doubt you ever will?
EVER? I think my BOTW 30 years later sequel will probably never get off the ground, because I don't think it would have much of an audience (yes yes write for yourself but writing into the void is also not that fun) and TOTK just kind of fucked up all the ideas I had. I don't know. Kill your darlings etc
16. What are your writing strengths?
I enjoy writing dialogue and put a lot of effort into making it flow nicely. I enjoy worldbuilding and building up a cast of supporting and minor characters.
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
Hm. Many. Over-explaining/under-explaining is a big one for me.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?
I write in a fantasy setting with only vague hints at a different language (Gerudo) so the need never comes up. I think it should be done respectfully and as accurately as possible if it is required. I personally would avoid it unless I knew a good sensitivity reader & someone who spoke the it as their first language.
19. First fandom you wrote for?
... ... Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland (2010)
20. Favorite fic you've ever written?
If I had to throw them all away and keep only one, it'd naturally be From the Ground Up.
I'm going to tag @zeldaelmo and @spoiledspine !! Enjoy!!!

If I'm operating tumblr correctly then the "in the tags" post about downgraded characters you floated anders and I WANT THE THOUGHTS like?? I know it's a beaten to death point but fr they really said "velanna is too whiny let's give her personality to a man instead" and DESTEOYED everything that was fun about anders (yes there's stuff to be said from the perspective of justice having seemingly not liked Velanna imo, but also like goddamn the end result of the decisions are still where they ended up)
I will be honest anon, I was never a part of the DA Tumblr fandom so as far as discourse I'm only fleeting aware of like, the chantry blowy upy parts but.
I just really loved how silly goofy Anders was in Awakening and was so upset about his portrayal in DA2. And like, yeah years have gone by, things have happened™️ but idk if even the inciting incident makes sense? It's been years and years so forgive me if my memory is spotty but idk if Justice would have been able to convince Anders to like. Give enough of a fuck to go on the offensive? Idk I feel like his WHOLE thing was "I GOTTA GET THE FUCK OUTTA HERE" and even if he's been Grey Warden'd it's. 乁ʕ◕ ᴥ ◕ʔㄏ

Talk Shop Tuesday: what’s a character you feel no one understands like you do?
seek i feel like you're handing me lit stick of dynamite with this ask dsjakkdshgfdjl to pull a reaction image that you use a lot:
Tumblr media
i'm generally a pretty laidback person in fandom like if i see a portrayal that i don't agree with it's like "alright you're entitled to your opinion, not my problem"
HOWEVER i'm holding tewksbury from the enola holmes movies in my arms and beating people off with a stick. idk if it's just how explosive enola is combined with the earnestness of his character and how besotted his is with enola but i feel like this becomes an excuse to see him as an always agreeable perfect gentleman with no personality other than how would do anything for enola. she's his first and only priority and thinks of nothing else except how great she is as he watches her do her thing with wide eyes. which yeah, he likes her a lot and he's a nice guy. but also he's fucking weird.
this is the same man that has to fend off girls at balls and then spends the rest of his time sniffing plant leaves. this is the same guy who is the youngest member of the house of lords and is holding his own in parliament and throwing his hat into the ring in supporting some insanely progressive legislature for the time period the story is set in. this is the guy who (as a pretty young teenager) saw his dad die and then decides to throw himself headfirst into running away to london with no money and support bc he'd rather do that than join the military. sure he isn't as deductively smart or physically skilled in weaponry as enola is, but he's sharp and driven and intelligent and, in a lot of ways, a lot savvier than enola and that gets lost in how i see him portrayed.
enola is the main character bc the series is named after her and all but i sincerely doubt that she'd find tewksbury half as interesting if he were the way he's written in most things i've seen 😵‍💫😵‍💫

no pls the "angry little man incapable of love or emotion who needs a sunshine to show him how to love" portrayal always just gives me the ick. and idk where it comes from either? i don't even really get into maxiel as far as fic reading anymore because quite a few of their writers do that and it's just? max smiles and laughs when daniel is joking around with him too, even returns the energy/keeps the joke going somtimes, u people act like he's a brooding petulant child who snaps over everything. even lando. their past streams - that interview after their podium this year - max is ALWAYS cracking jokes with and being just as sarcastic as lando is when they're together!! we don't really have a ton of lestappen recent, non-racing moments to go off of, but even throughout this season, max seemed genuinely disappointed that ferrari didn't give charles the strategy/support to fight him for the championship? i don't really ship them (nor do i know anyone who does), but i'm always drawn to yuki and max in those combined rbr/at PR/challenge things because he's also pretty smiley and jokey with yuki as well? idk i could go on with other examples as well but max! verstappen! cares! about! people! and! has! emotions! a lot of media may villainize him and portray him as a dick, but if you actually look at his interactions with other drivers, it's pretty apparent that's not reality lmao.
All this.
The fucking media did an absolutely excellent job of making him look like a merciless and loveless robot. Anyone who actually doesn't follow his interviews or watches the team content or focuses on the way how his close circle of friends and people talk about him are simply swallowing up this disgustingly fake and damaging persona like some starved man.
People say they hate toxic stuff, but 90% of the fandom is obsessed with this toxic media presentation and further using it to either to push their own agenda/angle or just use it in their fan creations because it is both very easy and also creates the desired dramatic effect to become popular on social media (for whatever it is worth).
I seriously can't take anyone painting him like this as a fan no matter how many fics they might have written with him in it as the protag (since we are talking about fanfiction) because they themselves are just being tools to further cement this deliberate villanization/dehumanization of him. They are also the reason why this characterization has become so popular. People see it garners reaction, so they produce more of it. It is also a very easy trope to build conflict upon, so...
I am also a fan of stories where the character finds their happiness again/gets out of depression (or learns to battle it better)/turns into a better self of themselves not only because he finds this sunshine person that miraculously cures them out of whatever the fuck they had, but because they grow as a character, (re)discovers themselves, and genuinely starts to stand on their own feet, not using the sunshine person as their emotional clutch as so many fics love to do.
Dunno why we are romanticising and elevating dependency that takes its roots from brokenness due to past abuse&oppression and using the other character as the sole reason/bane of this damaged character's existence as the highest form of love where the said character magically knows and understands the damaged person. Always.
