Hello! Since my art and designs seem to be getting more attention recently(??????) and stuff like this has come up a few times, I thought I'd lay down some ground rules about my art and characters.

Art Rules:

Generally if you want to use my art anywhere PLEASE ASK ME FIRST!!! I'll most likely say yes I just want to know about it. If you're reposting it on a different platform or sharing it on Discord or whatever I'd also appreciate if you could tell me what other people are saying about it or send me a link to the post. Also free to use as pfps or whatever as long as you ask first. and unless I say otherwise (there are some things I don't want my name attached to yknow) ALWAYS MAKE SURE TO CREDIT ME!!! ("genericdragon on Tumblr" will suffice). If it's art that I made specifically for you you're free to use it anywhere without asking just remember to credit me.

Please don't edit my art in any way, shape, or form, aside from maybe cutting out the background or whatever. (including drawing on top of it, changing colors, etc)

You're allowed to trace/heavily reference my art for practice (don't know why you'd want to tho) but DO NOT POST IT ANYWHERE OR USE IT FOR ANYTHING ELSE PLEASE.

Unless we're very close friends/mutuals do not expect free art from me. You can commission me on artistree or follow me on artfight (<- you are VERY likely to get free art this way.) I might do requests but only if it's something that I'd want to draw even if no one requested it. (no fetish baiting. I know it when I see it.)

Character rules:

If you want to use my exact humanization as your headcanon for that character or use them in your AU then be my guest! Again, just make sure to credit me for the design, and please tag me in anything you do with them :)

That being said, there are a few story related things that I'm not comfortable sharing with other AUs, but it's usually stuff that I don't post on Tumblr so you probably don't know abt it anyway. Just ask me if you're unsure. However I will also ask that you don't create an entirely new backstory for them if you're putting them in your own AU.

I can't stop you from taking inspiration from my designs but please don't just change a few things from my design and call it your own. They're not technically my original characters but I am still very attached to my humanizations and I'm not comfortable with them being modified like that. I'm glad that ppl like my designs but I don't want them to run too far away from me until they're not mine anymore yknow?

You are always always ALWAYS welcome to draw my character designs, especially when interacting with your own or other people's :) Tag me in any art you make of them!! I want to see it!!!

I made another post about it but self-shipping is allowed (as long as it's not a teenager who's way younger than you) just make sure to abide by the rest of these rules.

Feel free to unfollow or block any tags you're not interested in, I don't take any offense to it.

Please do not reblog any art older than like... 3 or 4 years. I'll leave it up for now but if you reblog it I WILL delete it, sorry.

Please don't feel intimidated by me! Apparently some people think of me as a Big Scary Popular Artist and I have no idea where that impression came from but I'm not. I'm just a weirdo girl making my silly little drawings. Also PLEASE don't say anything to the effect of "your art is so good it makes me feel bad" or using my art to put yourself down. I have Kind Of Complicated feelings about my art so when people do this it really messes me up. Just don't, it makes both of us feel so much worse.

Asks are always welcome, although I do try to draw art in response to asks but sometimes I just don't get around to it, or it's for a fandom I'm not currently interested in. (Sorry to that one person who sent me an INSIDE related ask that's just been sitting in my inbox for several months)

I do have an nsfw blog, you can dm me for the url, although I may choose to withhold it from you for any reason. (I'm shy 👉👈)

Other than that just uhhhhh be reasonable treat me like a person respect my boundaries etc. I'll update this if needed but this is the most important stuff for now I think

i will complain about writing dazai every day all day. this is from a wip!

Dazai drops himself onto the chair next to Kunikida, such that their knees are touching. He leans in, face uncharacteristically serious. “Don’t push yourself too hard.” Kunikida feels a lump in his throat. He coughs into his fist, looking away. “You should follow your own advice.” That usual carefree smile returns as Dazai throws his hands into the air, rolling his eyes. “Whatever! I wanna go home.” “Go on, then.” “Alone?” Dazai pouts, poking Kunikida’s arm. “What if I fall over and die? I’m still wobbly, you know. Someone needs to accompany me or I may—” “Alright, I get it,” Kunikida sighs. He glares at Dazai, who beams innocently. “If you weren’t healing, I’d punch you.” “Hehe, Kunikida-kun should do it anyway.” Dazai bats his eyelashes and Kunikida seriously considers giving in.

Lucy’s gown looks straight out of a dream, with layers of creamy tulle. She wears a soft brown corset and has matching silk gloves on too. “You made that?” Tachihara asks. “That’s so cool!” “Thank you,” she giggles. Her smile suddenly drops. “If I don’t go home with a million pictures of my masterpiece, I’m going to be upset.” “Let’s go take a picture right now!” Higuchi says, oblivious to the slight threat. She links her arm with Lucy’s, smiling so hard that she looks like the sun.

About the silly Zelink vs Malink wars

So I accidentally got involved in a shipping war on twitter earlier and got insulted and called delusional, etc. So I wanna make something clear:

I may forever be for Oot Zelink, BUT that does not mean that I hate you or wish anything bad on you for not liking what I do. Nintendo left that part vague for a reason. Yes, there are a lot of hints that make one thing likely, but to me the connection between them feels too strong to go another path and since it's not confirmed as canon, I see no reason why I couldn't go down the Zelink path. But this is my interpretation! It can be yours, but it doesn't have to be. It's a fictional story. There is absolutely *nothing* wrong with adding your own part to it in the way you want it to be. May it be Zelda, Malon, Ruto, Nabooru, Saria (? - if you can make it non-illegal) or some OC it's totally fine and valid! It's not like you're denying or rewriting world history. And even if Canon did confirm it as different, you could still make yourself an AU or whatever and it'd be valid.

Having different head canons, theories, AUs, ships, whatever is FINE. It's not just fine, it's BEAUTIFUL. It's an example of your creativity, interpreting what the source materials give you

But I think I understand now why some people are so intense about it. Let me explain it from my own perspective:

Oot was not just my first Zelda game but also one of my first video games. Princess Zelda made me realize a lot of things about myself (gender and other things). I wanted to be like her and I wanted my hero too. At the same time Link was like a childhood friend to me when I was a child myself. So I wanted to be the princess and I wanted the hero to be mine. No surpise that eventually the knight x princess trope became my favorite and with the reincarnation aspect even more. Now I have a man who treats me like and calls me his princess. He saved me from terrible points in my life. He is my hero. To me this strengthened my love for this kind of bond even more. It was personal

But I've heard from a friend that he had the same situation but with Link and Malon and that he found his Malon type of partner. So that made me realize that ships can be a deeply personal things for some, because it reflects yourself, your own wishes, your hopes. And seeing anything go against that makes you go into defensivee mode. It does for me but I try to be civil. I try to remind myself that nothing that others do can take away my own theory. And because of that, I wouldn't want to take it away from them either. It's what gives them comfort. Why take away their comfort? I don't want to do that and you shouldn't either. Let people have their things. It's possible to coexist and appreciate each others differences. I've seen it happen.

20 Questions For Fic Writers!

Thank you so much for the tag, @honeyteacakes!! I loved reading your responses. This was so much fun to do.

1. How many works do you have on AO3?

35! Some of them are locked to attempt to minimise AI scraping.

2. What’s your total AO3 word count?

44,236 holy shit

3. What fandoms do you write for?

Currently, I’m pretty deeply embedded in the Sandman-verse. But I’ve also written an AC Odyssey fic recently.

4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?

I’m skipping this one because I embedded so many links in this post and I don’t wanna do it anymore. 😂 And people can just filter by kudos on AO3 if they’re interested.

5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?

I respond EXTREMELY slowly, but I make every effort to reply to comments when I have the energy to spare. It means a lot to me when people take the time to tell me what they liked about my stories.

6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

Oooh. Good question. It’s either “pour the dirt into our bed” (Ranger’s Apprentice, referencing homophobia faced in a queerplatonic relationship) or “if you want voices in the dark, listen to mine” (Good Omens, after a temptation gone wrong.)

7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

I write a fair amount of tender stories, so there are a lot of possible answers to this one! Potentially it’s “our place in the sun” (Sandman, Lucienne/Calliope domestic fluff) which is all about coming to rest and settling into love. Another option is “throw down that spade and dig up the garden” (Good Omens, Ineffable Husbands) which is about…pretty much the same thing, now that I think about it. 😂

8. Do you get hate on fics?

Thankfully not. I genuinely can’t understand why people leave hate comments on fics. Sure, there’s a lot of things I take issue with in certain fandoms, but I bitch about that stuff strictly IN MY OWN SPACE, I absolutely do not barge into other people’s spaces to do it. I never will and you can hold me to that.

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

I WANT TO. I’m working on it!! I actually have a smut prompt ask game queued up for next year, when I’ll have fewer writing obligations. As for what kind, I want to write so much femslash smut. There is devastatingly little in the Sandman fandom.

10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?

OHOHOHO. I have written a Los Simuladores/Good Omens crossover and it is genuinely one of my favorite stories that I’ve ever written. “every morning the same big and little words all spelling out desire” is appropriately zany, hopefully sexy, and seasoned with a dash of angst to balance the flavors.

(Shout out to @jlemonster for writing such a glowing post about it, it makes me happy just remembering it.)

Another crossover I’m working on is Johanna Constantine/Mary Poppins. I PROMISE it will make sense when it’s written. …well, maybe. 😂

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Nope.

12. Have you ever had a fic translated?

Yes!!! As part of Fandom Trumps Hate this year I had two fics of mine wonderfully translated into Spanish by @yourneighborhoodneighbor and it was an amazing experience.

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?

Nope. I don’t know if that would work with my writing habits, tbh. Maybe someday though, if the right idea and right person come along!

14. What’s your all time favorite ship?

Oh GOD. Complicated question!! There are ships I’m currently enamored of, obviously, but who knows if they’ll stand the test of time? I know that Kaz/Inej (Six of Crows) and Irina/Jack (Alias) did something to my adolescent brain that may never be undone, but that’s the closest I can get to an answer to this question.

15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

I’ve got a Good Omens Ineffable Wives AU inspired by Anne of Green Gables that is very dear to me, and has many aspects I’m extremely proud of, but I don’t know if I’ll ever finish it. My interest in Good Omens has flagged of late and unfortunately I don’t know if I’ll complete many of my WIPs for that fandom!

16. What are your writing strengths?

I like to think I have a good grasp on characters’ voices! Also, I think I write tactile and descriptive details well.

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

TRANSITIONS ARE THE BANE OF MY EXISTENCE

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?

I have done it once!!! For the aforementioned Los Simus fic. It was so much fun, and a good challenge for me. The dialogue was in Spanish (with very valuable help from @thisisnotjuli) and I loved writing how the two characters spoke in somewhat differing dialects.

19. First fandom you wrote for?

Oh, lord. Probably Harry Potter? By hand, in a notebook from the dollar store. I was probably about eight or nine.

20. Favorite fic you’ve written?

They’re my children. My babies. My beloved frogspawn. I can’t give a definite answer, but…two of the stories that I worried my lip over the most for dread of failing to do them justice, the ones I think I put the most heart and consideration and care into, are “it’s an old song (and we’re gonna sing it again)” (Sandman, Calliope & Dream + healing and rediscovery and intimacy and changed but no less important relationships) and “sister dear, bear me away” (Good Omens, a human AU about gender discovery).

One day, while Steve was walking through the library, he saw an ad that caught his eye. Without hesitation, he took it. He was sure he was going to need it.

You sighed as you looked at your cell phone. It was as if you were mentally hoping it would somehow ring; it seemed like your private tutoring ads weren't working. You jumped when your phone rang; it was an unknown number.

Steve didn't know what to say; the only thing he was sure of was that he needed help. Nothing he had been given was helping him adjust to this time. If he were to tally it up, he had probably already burned everything possible in his apartment, even things that seemed impossible for him to short-circuit or something. He still couldn't explain how it had been possible for flames to come out of the shower.

With much nervousness, he managed to make an appointment with you; he didn't know who else to turn to.

The day you met, you were dumbfounded; maybe you should have specified what things you could tutor her on privately. Although after seeing Steve, you couldn't say no, not to mention that you felt a little sorry to see him so desperate and helpless, although you didn't know whether to believe everything he had told you, it didn't sound so believable that some flowers had caught fire.

You quickly created a plan, including everything you were going to show him. Maybe things could turn out in a different way that would be beneficial for both of you.

I know I’ll probably get killed for this but I have a theory why LU is the most popular Link Meet AU.

First off, if an AU is drawn instead of written, it’s going to be more popular, because strong visuals give people more stuff to latch onto. Especially if the art is really cool, colored, and distinctive. Each Link in LU has a distinctive design that makes them visually easy to tell apart and a unique skill-set they bring to the table. I know some folks don’t like that Wind and Four are composites of multiple games which are spread over several canonical centuries, but part of why it works is because the games they encompass have very similar looking Links (I’m sorry Spirit sweetie). Every character wears something that naturally exists in their game, but is visually distinct as “them”. Even Four, who looks the most different from his in-game sprites, is still modeled after the stained glass window from Minish Cap. An outsider to Link Meet AUs but a knowledge of Zelda games (like myself) can easily walk into the AU and say “oh ok that’s the Link from Twilight Princess and that’s the one from Skyward Sword” pretty much at a glance.

But there are lots of really cool well drawn distinctive Link Meet AUs out there, so why is this one doing numbers? I think it’s also because there’s very little extra headcanon attached to the LU boys in the comic itself. Everything about them is pretty closely tailored to their games, from appearance to skills to personalities. The only completely canon relationship in LU iirc is Malon and Time are married and Sky and Sun are dating. Most AUs I see add in some of the artists own flair or ships or identities into the Links, which is great, but it can create a more limited sandbox for others to play in. Like if an AU has RavioLi as canon or it’s definite that Link and his Zelda are related, then people who ship ZeLink can’t put their own spin on things. If you’re adding a gender identity or disability or something to your AU, then people feel uncomfortable trying to change that in fanworks, and may not engage as much because of it. And especially if you have like, a big extra non-game mechanic going on that runs how the Links are meeting that people may be intimidated by. Fandom lives in the ability to adapt and project a little. The more you make “canon” to your AU, the fewer wild ideas people will run off with linked to it.

Another reason, and I say this with all the love in my heart, is that because LU has become so intrinsically linked with the hero titles (ie the game names), some people wanna differentiate by giving their Links different names than Time/Twilight/Wind/etc. Which is totally fine and honestly really fun, but it’s not as immediately identifiable for some as the game names, which can be a barrier. And sure, if you know the lore well enough some are obvious—the one with pink hair is the one from ALttP, the one with a fairy name is probably the OG Link, the one with any sort of body of water referenced is probably Wind Waker—sometimes there are overlaps. Like OoT Link and OG Link could both be called fairy boy. Wind Waker and Link’s Awakening could both be island names. This isn’t insurmountable, but it’s a barrier that LU doesn’t really have.

This ain’t to say other Link Meets AUs aren’t great, cuz they are! I follow a few of them and enjoy them immensely, and several get a lot of engagement! This is just my theory as to why LU has become kinda the Ur example of the Link Meet AU, and why the fandom is so big compared to other options.

This earns a place on the list especially for chapter 4 where the boys wear make up and have fun.

Summary: Sylvain likes to gift things to those he cares about. One such offering results in celebrating the end of the war with Dedue, and another more than a year later precludes hours of intimacy between them, which Sylvain concludes with a far more valuable gift.

This is a favorite both because I love my rare-pairs and because I succeeded in confining this potentially huge multi-chapter idea into one satisfying fic. I'd like to thank the boys for being agreeable about that and not forcing me to explore their angst for more than like a paragraph.

This is a favorite because it remains the only multichapter fic that I didn't post all at once that I managed to finish. Also I love Fae and their relationships and I hope this is fun for anyone who wants to read it.
