Ok, so I was reading the Darth Vader comic series. Vader first mission after Mustafar is to get a new kyber crystal for his lightsaber defeating a jedi. He is successful, and now he has to make it ‘bleed’ to use it.

This is the image the crystal uses to ‘tempt’ Vader back to the light side, not his dead wife, not his unburned body, but Anakin removing his helmet and getting on his knees before Obi-Wan, his old Master, his father, his brother, his everything, the man that has left him to burn alive not too long ago, and he says please—

I don’t feel well.

I really love Vader´s short scenes with Daine Jir, General Veers and Admiral Piett, they were bassically his right hands there, he listens to them even when it´s advice he doesn´t agree to and they are in fact working together as group. As long as they were competent and did their job Vader worked with them and listened to their advice.

I like the prequels but in a way I believe some creators post PT have forgotten this about Vader, especially in the comics, they are trying to write Vader as a kind of extension of Anakin circa 23 years in the middle of his breakdown in ROTS instead of writing him as the 40 year old man Darth Vader is, the guy who wanted to bring order to the galaxy, who actually believed the Empire was the best way to achieve that, who believed the Senate still had a part to play in this whole thing and who believed the Death Star was a tecnological terror, who actually had forgotten about Obi-Wan and Yoda and whose only disloyalty towards the Empire and the Emperor was over Palpatine´s intention of killing Luke.

As Lucas said Vader at 40 is a man with a job with a twisted perception of reality and deep in the darkside but whose main motivation, peace in the galaxy, was something that still appealed to him. He didn´t go on a killing spree every tuesday for shit and giggles.

This also can be seen in his interactions with Lando and Boba Fett.

I personally love the part from ROTJ novelization in which Vader thinks to himself why is Luke saying he has to let go of his hate if he doesn´t hate anyone(except for himself, deep denial there but this is Vader´s honest pov)

Vader is one of those characters that needs ‘muscle building’ It’s been a year since I’ve really drawn him, so, gotta get the feel for him again. I’m also trying to build a particular style with him, much like I did with Serverus.

oh oh oh au where anakin and obi-wan are both generals of the rebellion and anakin escorts senator bail and queen breha back to Alderaan after a covert Resistance meeting on the request of General Kenobi because he’s the best flyer in the Rebellion and they need to sneak them back into Alderaan so the empire doesn’t know….

Only for the rebellion to get the news that the Death Star has destroyed Alderaan. No word from General Skywalker. It must be assumed that he died with the planet.

Obi-Wan refuses to believe it, even as the days pass with no signal from Anakin. But he can’t believe his old padawan is dead….and he can’t believe he’d sent him to his death either.

(Anakin is alive, but he had to go undercover as an Imperial to leave the planet in time and hasn’t been able to contact Obi-Wan, but surely Obi-Wan knows it’ll take more than a Death Star to kill him!!)

(Their reunion involves Obi-Wan maybe toppling him into the dust in a hug and then punching him when Anakin makes a Hardeen joke about it all)

you know what would have been funny? i was busy thinking of some Imperial! Anidala AUs and there's one which just crossed my mind.

Imagine Padmé joins Vader on Mustafar, Vader beats Obi, and kills Sidious to take over. Vader tries to deepen his connection to the Dark Side as he and Padmé rule over the galaxy. Vader tries to portray himself as this evil, fearsome autocrat but is way too popular: he doesn't create the Death Star because neither he nor Padmé likes it, he abolishes slavery because duh, literally all of the clones (they don't get replaced) love him, he's still seen as the war hero, he's very handsome, and Padmé's presence + coregency mellows him out a lot. Padmé and his children are also there, and his love for them is wayyyyyy too much that he isn't nearly as evil and dark as he should be

Eventually, Vader comes to Padmé crying about how his connection to the Dark Side is weakening because of how much he loves her and the children and how he can't fuel his inner darkness anymore. He isn't really a Sith anymore and eventually Padmé convinces him to just let it go, renounce his darkness, and let the love flow through him so now he's just emperor anakin, former jedi and failed sith

THE FREAKING CHIMAERA!!!!!! THRAWN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Edit: THAT is how you do a villain introduction. The percussion buildup as something large approaches (nice touch hinting for a moment that the citadel was shaking because of Sabine’s attempt to use the Force), the pan up reveal of the Chimaera (I freaking love that A. She’s still in service and B. She has the scars from the Battle of Lothal), the slow descent to docking position over the citadel (nice visual cue that Thrawn is taking over as main antagonist), the chanting of his forces (I love that Thrawn’s crew and soldiers are fanatically loyal to him, it hearkens back to the fierce loyalty Thrawn inspires in his subordinates from the EU that you never really see in Rebels), the FREAKING awesome design of Thrawn’s Stormtroopers (the rugged repair jobs were likely a necessity, but the gold pieces were beautiful additions likely hinting at Thrawn’s appreciation for art, potentially even it spreading down the ranks), the contrast between the troopers’ rugged and dirt covered armor and their perfect military form, the restrained eagerness in their tone hinting at their angry desperation to return to the Empire, and the distant looks at Thrawn from behind and the side as he marches toward his allies, the slow zoom in from the front to his small, satisfied smile (I’ve long wished that Thrawn’s eyes were glowing and without pupils like in the EU, and I love how from a distance, his eyes almost look that way, and I think the pupils in live action actually convey that cold emotionless feel that the EU version had). Not to mention that his first line of dialogue had the distinctive Thrawn flavor of poetry that could have come right out of the Thrawn trilogy itself.
