It's September 21st. ☮️ On this day in 1981, the United Nations General Assembly approved the United Kingdom's and Costa Rica's joint resolution and declared the third Tuesday of September as an International Day of Peace. The purpose then and now is to bring an end to war and violence and strengthen the ideals of peace around the world.

In 2001, UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan changed the commemoration date to September 21st every year. On this day, UN member states declare a 24-hour global ceasefire in conflict zones. World leaders put aside their differences as examples to their citizens and devote their energies instead to providing humanitarian aid.

The 2022 theme for International Peace Day is “End Racism. Build Peace. We all have a role to play in fostering peace. Tackling racism is a crucial way to contribute to this effort.” From education to the arts, social justice to sports, health to the environment, neighborhood issues to service for others, there are many ways to participate in Peace Day. You can create a public or private activity related to peace or attend an event in your community. The corridor is part of a larger demilitarized zone along the entire Israel-Egypt border. Under the peace accord, each side is allowed to deploy only a small number of troops or border guards in the zone, though those numbers can be modified by mutual agreement. At the time of the accord, Israeli troops controlled Gaza, until Israel withdrew its forces and settlers in 2005.

Strengthening Multilateralism by Upholding the UN Charter and the Role of Small States.

The upcoming Summit of the Future is an opportunity to turbocharge efforts toward a more peaceful, secure, and sustainable world. Discussions on revitalizing the work of the General Assembly and the Security Council reform can further serve as avenues toward a more relevant, coherent, efficient, democratic, and representative United Nations.

IPI, together with the Permanent Missions of Estonia, Guyana, Kenya, and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines to the UN co-sponsored an event at UN Headquarters on April 4th, bringing together high-ranking UN officials, Permanent Representatives, experts, and representatives of non-governmental organizations and civil society to discuss how to reinforce the multilateral world order with the UN and the UN Charter at its core. In particular, participants addressed the following key questions:

How do we overcome a situation when the Security Council falls short of fulfilling its primary responsibility to maintain international peace and security?

How can the role of the General Assembly in matters pertinent to international peace and security further evolve when the Security Council is unable to act?

How can small- and medium-sized states reinforce the multilateral order with the UN and the UN Charter at its core?

I'm tagging this because y'all need to see this. This is why I say what people are doing to Noah is antisemitism:

I don’t know if the account they’re doing this to is actually Noah or they just think it’s him, or someone who likes him. But either way, the fact that they say “Hamas need to put you in a blender” makes it clear that they know good and well that Hamas is a terrorist organization and not some freedom fighters or anything, they just don’t care.

Bullying Is Bad (unless you have a different political opinion than me)

Be kind (except to those who think different)

Fandoms must not be toxic (unless an actor is Jewish and thinks Israel has the right to exist, then let’s cancel him and wish him the worst)

Let’s prevent suicide (unless the person we’re harassing commits the crime of not having our exact point of view)

Protect minorities (but not the wrong ones, if you know what I mean)

Who in their right mind thinks the rightful response to a 19-year-old actor supporting his own people is doing actual, material harm to them, or to someone you think it’s them (not that it matters, someone’s getting hurt anyway)?
