How to Build Identity Capital
What is identity capital? Identity capital is essentially investments that we make in ourselves. Things that play a role in defining who you are, such as, your job, degree, the extra-curricular activities you participate in, where you’re from, how you look, speak etc.
Your identity capital is your autobiography.
Identity capital helps you move up in life, and can play a role in getting you to your goals faster too. It’s sort of like you’re very own personal brand that you’re curating.
A very important thing to note- personal growth, including identity capital, does not happen overnight. It will take time and consistent efforts. There is no get rich quick scheme here apart from discipline.
On a personal level it includes:
1. How we speak
2. How we look
3. How we solve problems
4. Our relationships
5. Our hobbies
On a work level it includes:
1. Resumes
2. Degrees
3. Associations
4. Organisations
5. Accomplishments
So how does one do this?
Get a piece of paper and start answering the questions I’ve noted down. You’ll see a summary of the questions as points below.
Hard skill questions:
1. If I had $3 million in bank account and I had to spend 10% of it on charity, which is the first cause that immediately comes to my mind?
2. Do I need money to give back to that cause or can I also give my time?
3. When was the last time I updated my resume? Can I ask someone for a second opinion on how it looks?
4. What is a skill that is important for my job/ potential or future job for at least the next 3 months?
5. Are there any topics or subjects that I’m naturally attracted to that has no direct relevance to my work? (For instance: I’m very interested in women in history)
6. What is one workshop I would love to attend, if everything was at my disposal? (Example: I’d love to go to a chocolate making workshop)
7. What is a hobby that my ideal self would have?
Soft skill questions:
1. When was the last time I spent time quality time with people that mattered to me?
2. Am I interested in learning a new language?
3. When was the last time I took a social media break?
4. What would my bucket list look like right now?
5. What are some short term goals I know I can achieve with effort by the next month?
6. When was the last time I went over my finances? Can I reach out to someone who can guide me better?
7. Is there anything I enjoy collecting?
8. What is a subject I wish I had in school or college?
Notes of hard skill steps:
1. Giving back to a cause that matters to you
2. Keeping your resume updated
3. Learn a new skill and practicing it for a few months
4. Watching one educational video on YouTube/ one podcast such as TED talks a day to improve your knowledge
5. Attending workshops
6. Keeping a gratitude journal
7. Engage in some sort of a creative project or hobby
Soft skill steps:
1. Spending time with people who matter
2. Learning a new language
3. Social media breaks
4. Making a bucket list
5. Making a list of short term goals (Achievable in the next month)
6. Evaluate your finances and set financial goals
7. Start a collection of something you enjoy
8. Take a class in a subject that interests you, even if it doesnt relate to your job or degree

webcomics*! webcomics baby!!! i grew up reading these bad boys like they were the sunday funnies. im serious i would get up early in so i could check my daily roster of webcomic updates before leaving for school.
webcomics sort of feel to me like my generations version of zines. not that both those things arent still around, i just mean that, in the same way that there was this big boom of super creative zine self-publishing in the 70s through the 90s thanks to the increasing access to copy machines, and later home printing, the early 00s-10s was sort of the moment people seemed to collectively realize they could kind of just upload whatever they wanted to the internet and people would actually see it, leading naturally to another boom in indie art and storytelling.
a lot of the comics that popped up around this time were sort of... rough. raw. weird. there were no rules about what a webcomic had to be other than 1) a comic and 2) on the web, so there was some freedom to be as messy or as precise as the author wanted. this led to some real bangers, and some absolute flops. but regardless of how it turned out i think theres something to be admired about the sheer amount of creativity going into these projects that, for the most part, were purely passion-driven without any guarantee of greater recognition or success.
obviously webcomics are still around, but the culture surrounding them has shifted quite a bit. most people who are willing to put in the work of a longform serialized comic In This Economy are also doing so with the hope of being able to profit or at least sustain themselves financially on their work. theres no shame in that! but it has made the webcomic scene more competitive, more polished, less experimental. capitalism at work, you know.
people arent really as incentivized to try new things and dare i say get a little weird with it when innovation doesnt pay the pills. however that doesnt mean that there arent still artists out there who are challenging that.
i got the idea a while ago that i wanted to put together a list of webcomics that have been really influential to me and my own creative efforts, but i realized that list would be a mile long and wouldnt really give me the breathing room to talk about why those works resonate with me. so i decided instead to make a list specifically of my (currently) most beloved, most influential webcomics that i feel like are doing something unique that sort of pushes the boundaries of what is considered a "normal" comic.
presented in no particular order, with all attempts made to be spoiler-free, below:
nasty red dogs and feast for a king by kosmicdream (18+)
delicious, dark, meaty comics. ffak in particular is like this massive sprawling scifi stream of consciousness thick with blood and viscera and. a lot of highly transsexual erotic cannibalism tbqh.
personally i find nasty red dogs a lot more like easy to get into story-wise, but both are just chockablock full of this beautiful grotesque unapologetic and downright indulgent physicality. its pages dripping with every fluid you can think of and some you cant, and its also compelling surprisingly empathetic characters set against a backdrop of otherworldly rituals, cosmic pre-apocolypses, and worlds inside of worlds inside of worlds. body horror heaven lives here.
mr boop and crimehot by alec robbins (very 18+)
if youre at all into weird webcomics youre probably already well familiar with mr boop, and if you arent theres really nothing i can say other than Please give it a shot, but if you havent been keeping up with alecs work since then you might not be as familiar with his current project crimehot. and thats a damn shame because it is all the comedy, unabashed horniness, and surprisingly understated storytelling of mr boop taken to its absolute max.
crimehot is set in a future where nearly every aspect of human life and culture is controlled by an all-powerful all-seeing computer algorithm. but who cares about all that when theres a ragtag team of ultra sexy ultra horny master thieves going on wacky little misadventures together!
alecs style is blunt and simplistic in a way that comes off as juvenile at first glance, and then uses that presumption to completely blindside you with its actual content, reminding me weirdly enough of memeable classic tails gets trolled. in spite of their potential as works of ironic comedy however alecs comics really give me this impression of total earnestness. crimehot in particular is so blatantly un-erotic, with its complete lack of any subtlety, comically exaggerated (and surprisingly diagetic) anatomy, and impossible physical positions, that it circles back around into becoming, indeed, kind of hot. i think silliness can be hot so sue me!
blind alley by adam de souza
departing completely from my last couple recs, blind alley is a cozy, peanuts-inspired comic strip about the day to day lives of the children of blind alley. its also occasionally a deeply unsettling horror-mystery that has just barely begun to show its hand more than two years in. its distinguishing factor to me comes from the fact that the cozy exterior doesnt seem to be there to conceal or divert your attention away from the growing sense of unease that infiltrates its panels on an increasingly frequent basis as the story progresses. it feels more like the two elements live side by side, horror and mundanity, otherworldly creatures and secret conspiracies living peacefully alongside lazy summer afternoons and goofing off with your friends. it perfectly captures the anxiety of knowing that theres something the grown-ups arent telling you, the powerlessness of being a kid.
blind alley feels to me sort of like if those "what if Nostalgic Cartoon was secretly DARK" media theories were actually real, and actually scary. i might be getting ahead of myself as the series likes to take its time and is really only just starting to peel back the layers, but what ive read so far feels makes me feel like this could be something very special.
boy island by leo fox
beautiful beautiful beautiful first of all. the dreamy, surreal visuals? the colors?? oujhjh.. boy island is set in a world split violently in two, divided into boy island and girl island, and surrounded on all sides by a sea of monsters mutants and ghosts, those sorry souls who committed the trespass of trying to cross from one land to the other, or even live outside of either! a boy named lucille must strike out on his own to make it to boy island, but in doing so begins to discover things about the world and in fact himself that reveal an even greater mission.
im making this all sound very dramatic. its a trans story. its about trans people, being trans. its also about surviving the ripples of a world laid out for you by your parents, managing grief for the ones that didnt, and a funny little blue guy named jounce. also did i mention its gorgeous? hot fuckin diggity it is gooorgeous.
vivians ghost by hal schrieve (18+)
speaking of trans comics!! (plot twist: theyre all trans comics suckerrrr) look, all of hals comics are fucking baller and im sure the book zes got coming out will be too, but ive like Imprinted on this one. its attached itself my brain. much like the main protagonist collin has been attached to by his suicide victim best friend and ex highschool bf viv!
the sketchy art style threw me off at first but it quickly becomes part of the charm and meshes very well with the chaotic pace and gutpunch emotional moments. theres a strong element of magical realism that i honestly think comics as a medium were made for. viv is a ghost, and viv is grief, and guilt, and fantasy, and shame, and glorious trans revenge taken form, and hes not even the only apparition in this story, taking the stage alongside cameos by jesus christ, a detransitioners fursona, almanda palmer, and (checks notes) gonzo for a second there i think.
as a disclaimer (or incentive, depending) no one in this story i think is someone you could really call a good person. some of them are in fact plainly terrible. they are all so undeniably fucking fascinating though. and viv himself gleefully inhabits that moral gray area, deliberately and loudly disturbing any image of himself as a pure perfect victim, blurring lines and thrusting both the characters and audience out of their comfort zone. its a challenging read thats not going to be everyone for sure, but i definitely think its worth the read.
(and if this sounds interesting to you but youre not sure you can handle it, hal has other equally good comics that are still heavy on the trans gay relationship drama but much lighter on the childhood trauma.)
what happens next by maximumgraves
if youre reading this on tumblr i hope that youve at least heard of what happens next by now. thee seminal tumblrina art of our time i swear. it starts with a true crime podcast exploring the strange story of griffin and his accomplice milo, trans teen murderers, the latter of which has since been released from the psych hospital while the former continues to serve his sentence. but thats in the past, and in the present milo still has to figure out how to live the rest of his life.
the story moves rapidly, though not necessarily chronologically, in and out of the real world and the online lives its characters frequently inhabit like its guiding you through a twisted dream. its a comic on the internet about the internet from someone clearly well aware of its more poisonous aspects, as well as the addictive quality it can have for someone who has become otherwise isolated from the world.
at the end of the day though the major appeal i think is the characters, how messy and horrible and tragic they can be, which is all you can really hope for from a largely character-driven narrative. to say much more i think would ruin the experience, but ill say what happens next absolutely delivers on its ominous title, and im waiting on the edge of my seat for the next chapter.
preeny has to repeat 6th grade by momodriller
on a Much lighter note, preeny has to repeat 6th grade is a super cute adventure series about a magical little kitty named preeny who on her first day of sixth grade is called upon to go on a great mission. its a sparklefur comic!! ive been really starting to dive into furry art lately, and if youre the kind of person who raises an eyebrow at that statement, fine, whatever, but im talking to the cool people right now so keep it to yourself.
art from within the furry subculture is such insanely creative and passionate stuff, and the focus on this subset in particular, calling back to the early 2000s deviantart xD rAWR s0 rand0m era of online culture, feels so intensely nostalgic it makes my chest ache, despite never being heavily involved in the sparklefur scene myself.
the author states in the comics description that the story takes inspiration from her experiences as an autistic child, and even before reading that man i felt it. what really makes this comic unique to me though is that the majority of characters that appear are based on adoptables the author purchased off of, as she puts it, the children of deviantart. i LOVE that. not only is that probably amazing for the kids, it makes every character feel truly unique and adds perfectly to the overall flavor of the world shes created. there is just not another comic i can think of that feels alive like this one.
broccoli soup by secretpie
ok so i know how we might feel about webtoon comics but hear me out. broccoli soup is probably the first comic ive seen to really exploit the otherwise sort of bland and restrictive format of webtoons, utilizing the excess of white space to enhance the feeling of emptiness that characterizes the protagonist broccoli's time in the blank void they call home as well as to make the sparse use of color really pop in contrast.
broccoli soup is a mysterious series thats a little hard to pin down in terms of genre. a strange little being named broccoli spends their days in a vast blankness drinking tea with their loving yet highly suspicious Best Friend and benefactor, doris. doris has the ability to move between worlds, coming and going as she pleases, while broccoli is only allowed to leave when they are on a mission on her behalf. these missions vary, but the goal is always the same: make everything Polite and Good.
as the story progresses, little by little more friends and more color come into broccolis still new existence. the art style also changes from world to world, which imo is a very nice touch. and! theres music! its an interesting project that dances back and forth between fantastical whimsy and some surprisingly dark moments. and thats the shit i like to see.
thats all for now! though if im lucky there will be many more fun stories and projects to talk about in the future. keep in mind as well that this is like barely half of all the webcomics im currently reading, just the ones that most stick out to me as really doing something special.
until next time yall!!
oh wait sike honorable mentions time
awful hospital by bogleech
the only reason this isnt up there with the rest is bc im woefully behind at the moment. ill get back to it eventually! awful hospital is an interactive multimedia horror-comedy webcomic about a hospital that is. well this hospital is simply sub-par to say the least.
hedgehog's dilemma by mellodilla
this ones still a little new to say much on but so far it looks like a cute series. what most appeals to me is that the art style looks like something that fit in seamlessly with an early 90s newspaper comic strip. in particular it has a strong calvin and hobbes vibe to me. just, you know, about wacky lil lesbian animals living their lives.
ok now im done for real
*for clarity's sake, im using webcomic here to mean "a series of comics that was first published and predominantly exists online" so even if a print version exists, i still consider it to be first and foremost a webcomic. this also includes comics that contain a multimedia or interactive element. if its a combination of pictures and words to tell a story, its a comic.
also my list is probably going to end up massively favoring serialized fiction because thats just what i like to read, but i dont necessarily think thats a required element.

on creative daydreaming
are u daydreaming lately? about what?
daydreaming about my stories and characters used to be a big part of my creative process, but for a while ive felt pretty disconnected from them. i wonder if its because i dont have school deadlines or a job where i stare out of the window commuting or idling rn. when i do have time when my mind wanders, i find myself thinking a lot about my life, what i want it to look like, disappointments ive had, achievements ive made. it does feel like my imaginary friends arent picking up the phone. maybe im a normie now?
ppl i talk to talk about being bored or being stressed to shit as conditions that spur creativity. theres a big emphasis on playing dolls as escapism. i have a lot of stress in my life, like anybody else, but somehow playing dolls doesnt rly seem to hold the magic it usually does. im very used to using stories to explore difficult or negative emotions ive experienced, but somethings not quite connecting now. i also know u cant rly draw or make art when ur sick or lacking some needs, its a delicate balance, so maybe im too sick and needy rn.
i still draw and i enjoy it, its the imaginary friends that i miss. i try not to chase down inspiration, i try to play coy and let it come to me when it wants. i read a lot of things and watch a lot of things, though its getting to the point in the calender that im starting to be like, hello, when will it come back?! i miss that fun and that natural unhindered exploration.
i should also mention that huran enki is turning 6 this year, and all projects hit a wall eventually. i find myself interested in new themes, characters, and settings, though making progress w them feels glacial. maybe im comparing a project in its infancy to a project thats walking and talking and its not fair.
anyway, i havent lost hope yet, and if u have or havent i wanna hear about it.

A comprehensive reason as to why I, as a teenage girl, think the marauders fandom is heaven on earth. (+ a few faults)
In simple terms, its a pit of representation. The characters, even the ones mentioned more than just a name drop, have very little known information about them. Like yes, we know remus lupin marries tonks and we know james marries lily, but besides that? They were teenagers at hogwarts, its fun to play around with the dynamics of them.
And its also a passion project. The marauders is by no means an actual thing. Sure, theyre side characters in hp. But the marauders fandom is created solely on headcanons and fanon info. Its almost like if i were to pull finnick and annie from thg and develop them with such depth that it contextualises things that couldve been explained better in the actual books.
And not only that, but it shows creativity. Its like weve all taken these characters, aged them down to make them more relatable, and projected our own teenage experiences onto them in a way that jk could never as she wrote them as an adult and likely has never experienced the struggles of the lgbtq teens nowadays
The lgbtq is also a good point to bring up. Nowhere anywhere else on the internet will you find a fandom so full of lgbtq characters solely bc 'it doesnt sell'. The marauders is a prime example of how marketing realistic teenagers to teenagers is not unprofitable.
Mental health is also a big thing that needs to be explored more in media. And not as the main plot, but as something that just exists. Its done well in the marauders fandom.
Usually when watching a show or reading a book, you think these characters arent that realistic. In their world, sure. But its hard to relate to characters who link nothing to you. The marauders, though wizards, are teenagers in school. They are relatable.
Also the ability to create everything out of nothing. I adore pandora rosier and regulus black but in canon they are never even shown in the movies besides reg.
The poc inclusivity, the non skinny inclusivity, etc etc.
However! There are issues.
The marauders fandom is primarily girls, yet this fandom is an excellent example of the preference that male characters get. Like, i love regulus. But pray tell why jegulus gets more hype than pretty much any wlw ships combined? And why do i see so much of lily being a surrogate or her dying and james and reg getting harry? If youre gonna cut lily out of james life for him to be w reg, atleast find another way for them to have a kid. Lily is more than her uterus and a plot device for a kid.
And theres also sm arguments over headcanons. Like, if i were to say i hc james potter as straight, i would get attacked in todays fandom. It just gets a bit strange sometimes when people disregard canon at all. I get the seperation of canon from fanon is definitely inevitable in this fandom, but i dislike when people push their hcs as canon when its literally contradicted by canon.
I love the marauders fandom i do, and i love the way the characters are developed enough to be interesting to everyone, and not just babied down enough to be advertised to kids. Theres so much you can do when you dont have to worry about pr.
Anyways, thanks for listening to my rant. Please feel free to reblog w any questions or comments, il respond to everyone x

tell me about your favorite characters (or ocs if you’d like) 👀👀👀
Tumblr media
this post is going to be long so: oc info under the cut! i guess this is a good time to tell anyone who doesnt know me from other sites that i have a bunch of various ocs in my brain always. fun fact: originally this blog was going to be my art and oc blog! hence: briarborealisart. unfortunately the allure of fandom reblogs Got Me and now my blog is a deeply disorganized folder of Interests rather than me putting anything of my own out there LOL. maybe i should make an oc sideblog or smth but i feel like i wouldnt keep up with it </3
OK SO I HAVE A NUMBER OF OCS FROM DIFFERENT WORLDS. i'll go in order of world age (mostly---i don't remember the exact chronology) and stick to my main oca. anyone who i tag as a collaborator/co-author also has ocs that interact with mine and did a great amount of the worldbuilding and u should check them out hehehehe!!
WHOOPSVERSE
whoopsverse is a world jointly created by some friends and i (@natyune-art, @catatonickeeper and alythea). it's an epic fantasy and it is also falling apart actively lore-wise because we all became Adults With Jobs who had some creative differences regarding what we wanted for the roleplay SO its kind of a free for all rn. BUT IT IS SO DEAR TO ME. it started out as an offshoot of the google plus roleplay community World of Alengra by derbybubblefish but it quickly became its own thing. i technically have a billion and a half ocs from this world but most of them are defunct/shelved for now (read: dead)
my two most active ocs from whoopsverse are vas and kiska
vasushri jilpa nuriya, aka vas, is a mortal girl who keeps getting reincarnated with the same voidkin attached to her soul. voidkin are minor gods who are born from the void, a nebulous sea of chaos. they are goopy fellas and can latch onto mortal souls to give them innate void magic. void magic involves portaling, hammerspace, and in rare occasions, shapeshifting into a voidkin. vas has the rare shapeshifting bond.
kiska, aka the godkiller, aka tempest, is a once-mortal woman, now immortal, who is blessed by the death god with immortality and great power. in return, she is to wander the earth exterminating rogue immortals. she's like a very specialized grim reaper.
kiska frequently runs into vas in her many incarnations and adopts her.
PROJECT STARSTRUCK
@ask-projectstarstruck (mine and @doeblossom 's poor abandoned baby) is an ask blog set in a world much like our own, except that magic exists! it takes place in a fictional college and follows two (or three? 👀) students. blog spoilers to follow!! (also, the concept existed before and continues to exist outside of the ask blog, lol). MY two (most active) ocs in there are austral and boreal
austral lucis is a college student at the university of lenton springs! she's a business major and communications minor who graduated valedictorian of her high school class, and got a full ride scholarship to this ivy league college not too far from her home. she's a huge stick in the mud and very VERY type A. her story revolves around learning how to be her own person instead of doing what everyone expects/wants of her. her college roommate is callista aka elise, @doeblossom 's oc!
boreal lucis is dead. no, really! she's a ghost, and austral's twin sister. through an uncanny twist of fate, or maybe magic, when boreal was stillborn her life force attached to austral, and her ghost grew up with her. austral is the only person who can see her, and ghosts/hauntings aren't really well researched in the world of project starstruck, so... austral has defaulted to pretending she doesn't exist, so that people don't think she's crazy. boreal is a silly goofy guy, because you've got to have some way to entertain yourself when the only other person who knows you exist pretends she doesn't. boreal's story is ALSO about learning to become her own person, but this time a lot more literally.
boreal is very protective of austral, the both of them having grown up with a mother that was very demanding and dismissive of austral's emotional needs. austral would prefer not to talk about it.
SILLY SUPERHERO STORY
THIS ONE IS ALLLLL ME BABEY. i read so much of the Alernate Universe - Superheroes/Superpowers tag on ao3 that i haaaaaaaad to make my own. since this is all me i have a bajillion ocs in this world.
here i'll just copy and paste over from my discord (these descriptions might not be super accurate since they were written a long time ago)
ok core cast
19 year old spiderman kinnie mc, a vigilante named leon wright. became a vigilante after his existing powers mysteriously evolved (this Doesn't Happen to other people)
15-16 year old dani wright, leon's little sister, found out leon was a vigilante and promised to snitch on him if he didn't let her join him
17-18 year old stereotypical tech/hacker/guy in the chair guy named mick simmons, technically a supervillain because he keeps committing minor cyberterrorism. his only parent was a supervillain who got arrested when he was like 14. he met leon online after hacking his animal jam account. so far he's the only one whose codename ive made and it's discord
18-20 yo main villain, kammie stoll, a deranged and unhinged cartoonishly evil young woman who leon is a MASSIVE simp for, and she is in love...with DESTRUCTION!!! NYEHEHEH
a registered dad-aged hero, brendan powell, so stressed about the fact that these kids are out here fighting, desperately trying to be a positive role model for/adopt them
a dad-aged villain, grant stoll, kammie's bio dad, they have a great relationship /gen, he is also trying to adopt all the kids because he respects their gusto and thinks they'd be great friends for his daughter
the wright parents, phoebe and cyrus; one of them knows about their kids vigilante stuff, the other is oblivious (havent decided which is which). theyre separated but friendly and have a rivalry going on about who the kids like more
the hero hq secretary, sandra flores, who has a power that "lets her type really fast" but actually its just legitimately a superspeed power and shes so cool and rad. she just lets people think she's Normal
milo pryce, mick and leon's third roommate that they picked up off of craigslist or smth because they couldnt afford an apt on their own salaries. he's pretty normal (or is he?) and just a background civilian (or IS he?) except that he's a doomsday prepper with a serious hoarding problem, but only in his room. very meticulous otherwise
and, of course, the REAL big bad evil guy: clarisse simmons, mick's supervillain mom. she's a very mysterious force for most of the story until the THIRD ACT TURN WHERE ITS REVEALED SHES BEEN THE MASTERMIND THE WHOLE TIME! or... something like that
THE WEAVER'S APPRENTICE
story MAINLY driven by @natyune-art featuring witches, betrayal, and mystery!! my character in there is named dijah
khadijah, aka khadi or dijah, is a witch. in this world, witches can see the strings of fate that surround a person and view, interpret, and/or manipulate those strings. dijah wanders the world as kind of a rogue, wandering from town to town with nothing tying her down anywhere. that is, until she arrives at a town where a string of kidnappings finally catches up to her location. a bartender she made sort-of friends with is the next to go missing, and she immediately decides to start investigating. while she's in town, she also meets auryn, a traveling performer like herself. he's extremely suspicious, but she has no real evidence that he's behind the kidnappings, especially when he agrees to help her with her investigation. drama! intrigue! romance! horror! whimsy! they have it all!!!
THE OWL HOUSE
most recently and most clearly the subject of my brainrot, @doeblossom peer pressured me to make an owl house self insert oc and BOY DID I. ITS SO FUN. in addition to being besties with toh!doe, she ALSO has interactions with @mothsha 's toh oc myrna, and @blimate 's toh oc wynter. her name is sol
solstice finch is a teen prodigy. she graduated hexside at 15 years old under the potion track, and ended up succeeded in the emperor's coven tryouts, which she had entered by accident. she quickly made her way through the coven scout ranks and at 16 is a coven official a la kikimora. she's besties with doe and hunter :) her mentor WAS lilith, but after The Season One Finale... they don't talk for a while haha. I HAVE SO MUCH TO SAY ABOUT HER BUT I'LL KEEP IT BRIEF: sol is THE silliest little guy. she's also basically a cat, we swear. shortly after hollow mind she defects from the coven and that's when she ends up meeting myrna and re-meeting wynter.
AND THATS IT. THATS EVERYONE THAT I CAN BE BOTHERED WITH RN. I FEEL LIKE IM MISSING SOME KEY FELLERS BUT WHAT CAN BE SAID. IM LATE FOR MOVIE NIGHT I JUST CHECKED THE TIME. GOTTA GO!

im making my way through all the popular "How To Write Your Novel!" youtuber's self published novels just to see if they can actually write as well as they teach and so far ummm they are Not Good
100 days of sunlight by abbie emmons reads like a high school creative writing project. She writes words l i k e t h i s for emphasis which kind of got on my nerves and made me feel like i was reading a wattpad story. A man forces his way into a womans home and ignores how uncomfortable she is and i guess im supposed to find that endearing instead of really fucking creepy. The sequel is even worse and I've heard her other book is a 30 year old falling in love with a just turned 18 year old so ehhh not even gonna read that one.
The Saviors Champion by Jenna Moreci couldve been 300 pages shorter with how repetitive the scenes were. Each character is given 2 names and theres 20 characters so thats FORTY names i have to learn. Plus all the side characters, and it didn't help that they all speak exactly the same way except for the gay guy who spoke like a caveman. The gay characters are killed off and the bisexuals are seen as predators. The world doesnt make any sense, the plot doesnt make any sense, and the author makes no attempt to explain it (and apparently shes said she hates worldbuilding so she just doesnt do it which makes me think umm fantasy writing might not be for you bestie). Every single character ends their sentences with ",yes?" SO MANY TIMES to the point where my brain starting autofilling it into the dialogue even if it wasnt there, yes?

something ive been learning recently is to sync my expectations with my skill level. i didnt study graphic design so my graphic design projects would look like amateur shit. that doesnt matter i love them and theyre fun. i didnt study creative writing so my stories dont read like so many of the amazing fics ive read who were most likely being written by people who had at least some traditional creative writing schooling. im not entirely fine with that yet but im hopefully going to. i cant let that continue to tamper with my excitement and my genuine passion for creating stories recreationally that just cant be

WRITER FRIENDS

on the one hand ive never really written a full-scale fic collaboratively and it sounds like it would be SUCH a fun time to brainstorm and write a big epic fic w someone else bc you get to bounce ideas off each other, have another person to work together on building the prose with, someone to pick up the slack when you falter and you for them, just have someone by your side through the process just as hype as you abt the fic, etc. etc. but the problem is that i dont know if i can actually give up any creative control. like i know from the times ive planned ideas w others and school group projects and just my whole personality that im totally happy to accept others' ideas when i like them, but when i have a Serious Disagreement w someone else abt creative direction, its like, i cannot let go if i think my idea is right. and i would be too shy to confront my cowriter abt it but if my idea really doesnt go through i will be bitter abt it forever </3

i keep seeing adobe ads for their new ai feature in photoshop, not to mention the constant notifications in the actual program being like "hey! hey! we have ai now! hey! can i show you? im gonna show you! you dont get a choice! here let me just open this new file- oh you closed it well thats okay look you can use it on your new file! :D", and it makes me honestly so angry. like it defeats the purpose of even learning photoshop at all in the first place or having people who know how to do such advanced things in photoshop. like yes it can be convenient but also it makes me so mad bc a just steals images and doesnt give you the info to properly credit them!! at my school and in contests and shows ive enetered you have to disclose if you've used ai or not, and if you do in a school project its immediately labeled plagiarism (for good reason!). im not sure what contests and art shows do if you use ai, if they disqualify you or take that into account during judging or what. because i like to make my work /myself/ rather than relying on ai.
ngl my partner telling me more or less "you can be mad about things and dont have to submit to the 'it is what it is' of society" made me more comfy being like "gods FUCK ai 'art'" because i really just dont see it as art! its stolen! everything it uses goes uncredited and takes jobs away from people like me who have worked our asses off learning these damn programs. yes i can see the convenience but thats not always better, specifically when it comes to the very human experience of creating!
creating art, the urge to make and participate in creative endeavors is such a naturally human thing that you can't compare ai 'art' to.
when ai 'art' was still just that abstract, weird but clearly ai generated stuff i didnt mind as much, but now they can make propaganda and other fake images out of thin air that look extremely realistic to even the trained eye. the amount of control that others can have and the manipulation people can commit by using ai stuff is /scary/.

ur soo right about mania Lili! at this point i just say i dont like it, i dont even list reasons cause i got too dumb to even think about it, i just like something else like for example this new song 0: also how are u??
fr!! i like a lotta the songs individually but the album as a whole is suuuuch a mess as reflected in it being pushed back and scrapped and such, and the lows drag down the highs imo. the new song fucks severely however and its such a thoughtful return to form incorporating all the lessons learned (positive and negative) from abap and mania. mostly im just glad this project doesnt seem to be rushed EKFJSKFJSKFJ
anyways im doing well!! getting a swing of things since winter term just started so i need 2 relearn how 2 balance my creative time with my school time (which ill have to balance AGAIN in a few weeks bc im gonna be doing undergrad research on top of school work and band), but i feel a lot less overwhelmed than last term so ill probably be producing actual comic stuff soon ish!!! unless the research stuff kicks my ass lmfao

headcanons for the adult camp camp characters part 1 nerriston/performance trio because i love them with all of my heart ever
preston ends up working at a local theatre as the primary director there!! the theatre's actors usually consist of high school students and the theatre ends up hosting a lot of larger high school or college plays, and preston has pressured quite a few colleges into doing some of his favorite plays. the happiest hes ever been was when he got to direct a heathers play. he literally came home and shoved the script in harrison and nerris' faces out of excitement.
harrison works as a magician at the same theatre. he did a few shows in other theatres, a few times in vegas. he wants to become a famous magician, (as preston does a famous actor), but likes his life where it is right now and wouldnt want to be moving all of the time for shows. plus, hes terrified of being seen as a freak of some sort of ridiculed. he does bigger shows every so often, dont think he doesnt, but he mainly does shows in his city.
nerris' job is in marketing. she hates it a lot but performance doesnt bring as much money in as theyd like so they have to put in effort. theyre honestly happy with it because while the job itself sucks, she likes seeing harrison and preston be able to do their own crafts.
nerris did not want a dog. preston and harrison found a dog being given away in a walmart parking lot. and thus, nerris woke up to a dog in their home. harrison named him mantacore after the roy and siegfried's tiger yk the one. he is a samoyed. he sleeps on the bed with them.
they dont have kids ever mostly because i really dont like kids im sorry but i feel as though preston would see a child and go "ew" and nerris is the only one with actually good parents so 2/3 of the kids parents would just not know what to do. soooo no kids
nerris binds but never gets top surgery!! this is mostly because some days they dont really get dysphoria, and they still like appearing feminine from time to time (though neutral is definitely their style like 75% of the time). this headcanon is made by me, someone who binds but does not want to get top surgery, half projecting onto nerris
harrison does not drink, preston sometimes does, nerris does. this doesnt rlly have a followup headcanon but i can only imagine harrison's introverted ass staring down at a cup of orange juice while at a party and then driving everyone else home
there are three bookshelves in the living room. you can tell whos is whos because one is filled with percy jackson and narnia and other fantasy books, another has every script to every play in existence ever as well as analysis books of creative theatre, and one has like four magic related books and mostly stores props. not to say harrison doesnt read, but he mostly steals from nerris' shelf when he wants to read.
every summer, the performance trio (along with the other adult campers) hangs out at camp campbell. the camp shut down after the kids all became adults, mostly because nobody wanted to send their kids to a camp known for being a money laundering scheme, housing a known criminal (cameron campbell), overall a big scam, and because the amount of fbi helicopters flying to the camp was enough to drive everyone else away. it was a miracle the campers were allowed to come back there the following summers.
as adults, the campers are all relatively good friends. dolph moved to germany, but he visits whenever he can, and neil is gone a lot doing research projects in different countries, but the campers still live relatively close together and hang out a lot. i cant see a universe where they stop talking after camp
in honor of the camp, and also because yellow grew on them after a while, yellow is still a color most of the campers wear pretty often, except for max, dolph, and space kid.
harrison is still scared of quartermaster. how is he not dead yet. it has been a decade. he looked old when david was a kid. why is he still here. what the fuck was up with that space octopus. what does he know.
i like to think at least once quartermaster showed up at the nerriston house, poked his hook at harrison and said "come with me" and harrison Just Did. he came back a day later looking absolutely disturbed. he probably saw a demon or something, knowing quartermaster.

LOL yes stefans bangs are also unintentional it just grows like that. he has particularly hard to manage hair as a lion branded on a budget. and he wants his hair guy long and loose so
soren is less resentful against micaiah than he is against most people and generally understands. he only gets frustrated when its at the forefront when micaiahs like Oh no what if they find out about my secret :(. Have some tact you war criminal (shes a little out of touch all her friends are beorc,)
side note micaiahs yet another person for stefan to lose his shit at for dating beorc
as for stefans hair soren actually laughs at stefans suffering. at the end of the day stefan makes no effort to hide so whats it matter to soren that his hair grows like that its just another cruel irony for them both to laugh at like the insane people they are. stefan is not beating the beorc passing allegations. he probably goes around finding any excuse to lift his hair
sorens intersex but they cut th- afab. i think itd be funny for soren to deny being almedhas kid off his agab like I am not your lost son i was actually born a fucked up female. and almedhas like Yes i saw you when you were born and your case worker told me about your... situation. he is not on hormone blockers nor t because HOw and also he doesnt want to. he is one of those trans children who started presenting as male at like 6. after a while greil was like Are you sure buddy and soren went Shut the fuck up and greil was like Alright im not going to discuss this ever again and pretend this isnt real. And it was never discussed again in their household. if he respects sorens autonomy more than mists then ... not transphobic?? maybe if mist transitioned. greil kind of just wants to forget this is a thing about soren. in the end hes half housing a branded kid so hes progressive enough for soren
he looks like a girl but his voice is deep so passing wise he could go either way. which is believable enough for him to not be perceived as a queer girl but is instead seen as a very queer fairy boy after he insists hes a guy. people have trouble believing hes a guy until an adult refers to him as one. he is frequently called a faggot and not always for ike lover reasons. his passing is also kind of carried by ike calling him a guy. he is marked as a guy in the school system but not for other legal documentation. his foster parents were you know. his temporary parents and knew everything but once in the group home his case worker carefully introduced him as a guy to staff
I forgot pelleas. i dont feel like getting creative with how almedha couldve mistaken him for her son in the age of documentation and dna testing so hes just an 18 year old orphan trans guy out of hs she projected onto before finding soren (this way she can see him as her little girl). she was very weird with him. they were coworkers at chipotle. almedha fucked off to pittsburgh as soon as she found her little soren though rip pelleas he was kind of into having a mom
THERE IS A REYSON. HES THERE... ITS HIS MODEL
There is no reyson did I post reyson model in reply to one of your asks or something?? Certainly not recently
I’m so glad soren is chill and they are all chill with each other and they laugh about the irony. Soren can’t get mad at her for dating a beorc but stefan is like COME ON. BOTH OF YOU???? and that’s awesome
As far as anyone knows soren is just a guy who kind of looks like a girl and that’s why he gets called slurs see that’s so deep. Also ike says he’s a guy. Jokes on them he’s a guy And he’s gay. Sad
almedha chose pelleas as her surrogate son based entirely upon his hair and eye color looking like ashnard and then when she met Soren was like :0 because he looks like her (except white)

Why I have been gone so long (and other stuff)
I swear my disappearance has a good reason and here it is:
Tumblr media
I'm starting my own webcomic !!! You all have absolutely no idea how excited I was to share this project with you, but I can finally speak out! Before saying anything, I wanted to have the first chapter posted so you guys could get an idea of how the whole thing is gonna be, so I used all my free time is these past few weeks to work on about twelve pages, I finished everything and was ready to lauch the whole thing today on tumblr, tapas and webtoon.
BUT...
I mistook the file sizes accepted for tapas webtoon AND tumblr (as you can see the image doesnt really fit and you need to click on it to see it). As such, I will have to resize all of the pages I had already exported to .JPG to fit the format of those websites. It should be a fairly quick fix, but since school is just drowning me in tests because this is the last bimester of the year here where I live, I can't guarantee anything until the end of the week. But wait it out cephalopods! I swear the wait will be worth it! Thank you all tumblr users for supporting me and giving me the courage to start this project I've dreamt so much about!
(TL;DR) Finished the first chapter of my webcomic but file sizes were wrong, so you'll have to wait a couple of days to read it.
Keep creative, you all!

I chose my topic for my essay because I have been a lover of Jazz since i was 13 years old and discovered the genre. I discovered this music theme at a time where my life was drastically changing, and Jazz helped my mind float away. I have learned about many artists from the 1920s, 1930s, 1940s, and 1950s in the Jazz area and have become a true lover of these singers. In the future, I would like to research more information regarding singers and big bands i have not discovered yet. The most interesting thing about jazz in my opinion, is that an artist can 100% be themselves and improvise while singing, get creative and it is the right place for it.
The thing I find most difficult so far is talking about a topic i don't know enough about yet. Yes, i love jazz, not enough to write a full essay on it. As I research and move along the writing process I am excited to learn more about this genre that takes me to such a different space mentally. Ella Fitzgerald has been my favorite singer since I first hear her unique melody in my Grandmothers living room. Although I dont remember my high school writing style too well, I already know college is different for me because of the effort I am willing to put into the work. In High School it was very hard for me to care because I was forced to be there, in College, it is my choice to attend.
My next steps for this project will be going to the TLC learning center to help me put my ideas in order in a better manner. So far, I feel confident in this writing project because I know I will ask for lots of help when/if needed. Sometimes I have a lot of ideas and when it comes to organizing them in an appropriate fashion, it doesnt always go over well. I think Renato in the TLC will be a great asset for working out this issue.
