was talking to @air-kevin. here's a drabble I did last night that'll never be finished
“Did you really think you could forget about me? Forget about all we’ve done?”
Nihil inhales sharply, his eyes shooting open. He’s back in his office, not the dressing room. Documents are scattered around his desk and typewriter and he has to blink a few times to clear his vision up.
“Master?” Ares is standing before him, hands folded behind his back. “Is everything alright?”
“Sure, sure.” He looks around, the sun already setting and dimming his office. He remembered putting his head down, just to rest his eyes and get the migraine to stop. “Must’ve dozed off.”
“Your papal paint is running, master.” The ghoul moves forward, pulling a handkerchief from his pocket. He’s gentle as he dabs away the sweat that’s rolling down Nihil’s face. “Would you like me to fix it for you?”
“In a bit.” He relaxes back in his chair, looking around the room. “How long have I been asleep, ghoul?”
“A couple hours.”
“And you didn’t think to wake me?”
“You haven’t been sleeping that well at night, master. I figured you should get all the rest you can.”
“How generous.” Nihil raises a hand, gesturing to the seat across from him. “You can sit, ghoul. It’s just us, anyway.”
“Grazie, master.” A wave of nostalgia washes over him when he hears Ares say that. Though his accent had diminished throughout the years, his Italian always stayed so strong. “What were you dreaming about?”
“Nothing important.” He waves his hand dismissively. “It was just about the past.”
“Do you dream of it often? This isn’t the first time you’ve awoke like this.”
“It’s nothing, ghoul.” He keeps his tone firm this time, watching how his ears twitch.

"A L M O S T"
al•most – (adverb): not quite; very nearly
There are few things in life that you can count as “almosts”. They only really truly count in things like… horseshoes and hand grenades. Things where almost there means that it’s good enough. Where as long as it’s close the chances are good that you’re going to be good. She can’t quite put words to how she’s currently feeling, because she doesn’t know how she’s supposed to feel.
Not when it was almost everything she’d ever wanted.
Not when she had almost kissed him after lunch last week.
Not when she had almost told him that he could take her out to dinner on Saturday evening.
Especially when she almost admitted to him that she loves him.
She feels like someone has definitely scooped out part of her soul.
She feels like she definitely wasted a lot of time.
She feels like she definitely needs to throw up.
Her eyes close as the tears finally spill over the bottom lid. This is all…fanfuckingtastic, honestly. She knew that when this day finally arrived, she wouldn’t be able to function.
She would shut down.
The ten years they’d spent apart, that had nearly killed her in the beginning, but she knew he was out there somewhere. She knew there was always the slim chance that he might come home. That he’d come back to her. But this? It burns.

I'm always too afraid the fic writer won't take the cheese and I'll end up loving a wip that never gets written :( so I have to force myself to scroll past and wait for the finished fic
this just reminds me of that post about how wips are less likely to be finished if there is no interaction, so by only reading finished wips we are limiting the number of said finished fics... I mean I get it, but without encouragement a lot of people just abandon fics that they would've loved to finish if there was some cheering going on
besides saying that it's not worth giving love for a fic if it doesn't get finished is just... yeah that kinda makes me not wanna finish stuff, you know?

Best Shakespeare Adaptation
since the 1600s, people have been rewriting shakespeare and writing spinoffs in good, bad, and frankly just kind of insane ways. today, they will compete until only one is left standing!
during the poll craze i ran a lot of brackets and had fun, but ended up with a couple spare blogs i ended up having to delete, so i'm running this one off my main.
q. is this a tournament for productions or adaptations?
a. adaptations! stuff that changes dialogue or medium (beyond play -> movie) or takes a really new spin on it! west side story counts, romeo and juliet (1996) doesn't.
q. will there be a limit on contestants?
i'll cut it at 64 or 32 depending on how many submissions we get! if we get a lot of adaptations of a few plays and less of others, i won't cut any of them out, but i'll make some of them face off in round one
q. are you biased?
yes. fortinbras sweep. i've been reading 'these violent delights' too and it's pretty good. oh and can't forget haider, and requiem of the rose king is an all timer... basically, yes i really like rosencrantz and guildenstern are dead, but i have much room in my heart
q. is it most best portrayal/analysis, or best on its own merits?
a. a little of both, but mostly the latter
q. does [x thing] (that's pretty different than the original inspiration) count?
a. if it is common knowledge that it's shakespeare inspired
q. does the lion king count?
a. yea
signal boosting! if yall great bracket blogs will help out @gayest-classiclit @byronicherobracket (this one's still in qualifiers, it seems cool!) @straightplayshowdown (this one's getting going again!) @bestadaptationtournament @gayestshakespearecouples
