I’ve always loved medicine bc it’s the perfect intersection of science and humanity—the two things I value above all else in this world. Truly adored it since I was in the cradle. But now I’m thinking about how so much of my journey to neurosurgery will have to involve KILLING my feelings essentially bc how do you survive otherwise

#Not to mention the surprisingly high suicide rate of surgeons that’s been brought to my attention lately #Honestly I just started my neuro internship and just saw my first patient in clinic #And on the day I did I was critical of my neurologist for being so robotic about it #Now I can see why #I’m still at a point where I can’t even do a chart review for a patient without feeling so fucking sad #And I can see how that can get unsustainable after a while #But it’s like if I kill the feelings that drive my passion for medicine to begin with then what’s the point #It’s not like I’m in it for the money or prestige bc that’s so dumb considering how long the schooling is #But literally how to deal #My supervisors at the clinic very much all speak about the dementia patients w a learned impartialness #But I don’t wanna be that way one day :( but how to be anything else and still survive #I’m pre med so I still have time and maybe my opinion will change and I’ll wanna do another specialty #But when it comes to this every specialty will involve human lives and navigating that regardless #That said I can see why surgeons are at higher risk or depression suicide etc #The whole point of this internship is to teach myself how to navigate this stuff but. #aro culture is #aro #aromantic #actually aro #actually aromantic #ask #mod axel #at this point i've accepted that whatever's going on in our head is symptom soup #like there's genetics for a number of things and trauma so whatever the result is #i can at least say with certainty that therapy alone was Not E-Fucking-Nough for reducing depression symptoms #and neither therapy nor anxiety meds reduced our anxiety to any noticable degree #and i mean like. therapy through my university required us to fill out the PHQ9 and GAD7 every single appointment. i generally had 3 weeks #in between appointments. #2 years of pure therapy mildly reduced the depression numbers - from the 96th percentile in students - to something more like... #still major depression but not *that* #and anti-depressants got me to like... just ever so barely below the threshold between severe and moderate depression at its best #but! as we noticed while talking about this #i had one (1!) single score over three years of therapy that was not IDENTICAL for anxiety including when trying antidepressants with #anti-anxiety capabilities and when trying a specific anti-anxiety med #the single difference was by one point down and honestly it was mostly a little blip of nice life events #brain sure goes brr in here

Okay Lando is definitely a bit taller in person. Maybe I'm just short (I know I am), but like he just seems taller irl than he does on the screen bc I've seen him a bajillion times but when he was right there in front of me, I was like "holy shit why is he this tall???" It's not that he's super tall, it's just that I didn't expect him to be that tall. He had to fucking bend down to sign my shirt, which was like, yeah okay I really am too short.

As for the better looking part, I mean he always looks good so idk what to say to that. Imo he looks pretty much the same irl as on screen (amazing). And his scent, I don't really think he had any cologne or perfume on? Maybe there were just too many people around me, but I didn't really smell anything on him, so I guess the answer is just clean lol

But he was like super patient too despite all of us there, like I know he didn't get to everyone (he couldn't with how many people there), but he went kinda slow down the group, so most people in the first or second row had a good shot of getting something signed or getting a picture, which was so nice of him.

Someone actually brought stroopwafles though 😭 when he first came out, he was talking with his engineers, but someone shouted "LANDO WE HAVE STROOPWAFLES" and THEN he looked up and started grinning 😂 and he went to that person's side of the line first LMFAO
