Bleeding Words duology: A revised fic of mine
This one’s one of my more “out there” crossover stories.
So lately I've been looking at old fic concepts of mine, and revisited some ideas that have either been scrapped or changed so much from the original idea. This contains crossover concepts between RWBY, She-Ra and the Princesses of Power, The Owl House, and Amphibia.
Tumblr media
Where this differs from most crossovers of the kind is that A. They also crossover with darker franchises such as the Slenderman Mythos and the SCP Mythos. And B. The story - in it's original incarnation - was going to be a follow-up to Unlife is Strange, a fan-verse of mine that mostly consisted of game tie-ins such as Life is Strange, Vampyr, Until Dawn and Control.
On AO3, I dubbed the series Bleeding Worlds. For the uninitiated, read here and here for other posts and headcanons for the series. I may revisit the story after I finish Unlife. As of late, I am considering separating it it into different stories.
One being on the RWBY + She-Ra side of things; the other on The Owl House + Amphibia. Anyways, I’d figure I’d talk a bit about what was going into the initial story before the split.
1. Among the changes I went through for the concept, the constant was what the main conflict was gonna be. It was originally was a world merger set after Unlife is Strange and would have been a direct sequel. And it utilizes the Control aspect of the story.
Tumblr media
It would have depicted the SCP Foundation, existing within the world of UiS, indirectly tied to the Federal Bureau of Control; as well as Slenderverse figures. Due to the invasion of otherworldly beings quickly growing beyond containment, the doors between different dimensions would open, and these dimensions would start to “bleed” together.
Hence the title Bleeding Worlds.
As I said, it’s world merger along the lines of Crisis on Infinite Earths or Into The Spidererse. While the SCP Foundation and FBC try to hold off the onslaught of Eldritch Horrors, multiple “civilian” protagonists from different dimensions would get caught in the crossfire, to try to save their home worlds.
Now, at first this was strictly an Unlife follow-up that featured characters from the first story, treating Remnant was a parallel world. Initially I wasn’t gonna include Amphibia or The Owl House, but since I was writing a different story that matches the same beats, I thought “Why not connect the dots ?”
2. There's also the worldbuilding I have in mind, which has also changed in different additions. The easiest way to sum it up is that Eternia is a different and distant planet than Remnant, but Remnant keeps changing from either being an alternate Earth, to a version of Earth set so far into the future that it doesn't really Earth anymore. This was another scrapped concept as I felt since the original storyline was going to be a world merger, I felt it was irrelevant.
Tumblr media
Also I write Catra and Scorpia as Faunus.
3. Regarding the inclusion of The Owl House and Amphibia, I did have a semblance of of a plot written down. Like She-Ra and RWBY, the two have enough of a Friendly Fandoms (as I was writing this post, I learned of the upcoming crossover table reading). It wasn't part of the initial story but was revised into earlier this year. The idea was that it's Luz, Anne, Marcy and Sasha teaming up on Earth to face the same threat, bringing along their non human friends and allies to interact with the human world.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
As of current season of The Owl House, and the events of True Colors, that plot line is most certainly gonna be revised. I’d have to wait out Amphibia season 3 alone before I can revisit; the show’s going, we’ll have a plot like that anyways, and it’ll be dark and angsty without the presence of Eldritch horrors.
Speaking of...
4. As for what we’d have as antagonists, depending on who I pick for the crossover, we could end up with canon villains like Belos, Andrias or Salem. On In the other corner we have SCP/Slenderverse villains such as HABIT, Slenderman; The Scarlet King and other Elder God’s as Greater Scope Villains. And there is a plethora of monsters and villains from both mythos to serve as monster fighting fodder for the protagonists, that listing them would take a while.
Out of all the antagonists I'd consider the Scarlet King the top villain, as he's a threat to even the other antagonists. I also eluded to his existence in Unlife is Strange. Thematically speaking, a character like the Scarlet King would be a perfect antagonist for the cast of RWBY and SPOP. He is the personifcation of hate, nihilism and cruelty, and is antithetical to RWBY's hopepunk themes, and SPOP's themes of love and redemption. And canonically, he’s ultimately destroyed by one of his abuse victims, and his deadass weakness is the power of love.
Tumblr media
Also a friend and I talked about the Scarlet King as a character; when you beak it down, the Scarlet King is also rife of toxic masculine attributes, that get projected onto male RWBY characters, especially antagonists (attributes I’m not gonna describe here, but you can guess). The conclusion is the Scarlet King is a cosmic incel living a nihilistic power fantasy. In a setting like RWBY or SPOP, he’d be perfect. However he may be too racid to feature in a story with characters from The Owl House and Amphibia.
It’s one of the reasons I decided to split the story.
5. As for The Owl House/Amphibia tie-ins, as I said above, the new season have me putting their side of the story on hold, but I can talk about what was going to happen.
It's be pretty Lumity focused, as well as Sashannarcy, and feature an exploration of the human world from the perspective of their human friends. At first it was gonna be what you'd expect, and then things go South as the worlds start to "Bleed" together. Clearly we're getting a "exploring the human world" plot in Amphibia's third season - albeit in a more angsty context that doesn't include Eldritch Horrors trying to consume multiple worlds.
Tumblr media
As for things that may stay after revisions; a sequence wherein Luz and Marcy are trapped into a "perfect dream" world that plays up escapism to distract them from saving the world, while their friends would be trying to snap them out of it.
There's also a campfire sequence in which Luz shows over some singing skills with a Spanish rendition of Enrique Iglesias Hero.
Tumblr media
I considered having Luz go to the same school as the Amphibia trio, albeit someone outside their social clique. I scrapped that idea because A. the obvious contrivance, and B. if Luz did go to the same school as them, she'd hardly be left out of a friends group that includes Marcy.
Either way, it was scrapped.
6. Back to the RWBY/SPOP stuff. As with TOH/Amphibia, this subplot was re-written in light of Vol 8, but many concepts remain the same.
Originally it was gonna take place after Vol 7, with the Eldritch invasion and the world merger occurring as Salem begins her invasion. Then Vol 8 happens and I adjusted accordingly. Back then we didn't know things such as; Cinder's backstory; Salem's endgame plan; how low Ironwood would sink. And that Penny was gonna have a bigger role then before Vol 8 rolled around.
Tumblr media
One thing I looked forward to was playing certain characters as foils. It'd be one thing to point at Catradora and Bumbleby and say "Hey! Look how similar they are!" I prefer seeing how characters would play off of each other. I'd see characters like Hordak being a foil to someone like Ironwood; I'd play Catra as a foil to Adam Taurus and Cinder. Considering Adam's death and the reveal of Cinder's backstory, I'd say playing Cinder against Catra is the way to go.
Tumblr media
Considering the way Vol 8 ends, I may have to wait out Vol 9 as well before I reconsider the RWBY subplot. It’s another reason why I decided to split the stories.
7. I'm thinking of including Finn, the Catradora child to some capacity. I haven't decided if Finn would be a newborn, a toddler at this point in time.
As such I haven't thought of Finn in much of characterization, I tend to dial back to the defaults of how I write babies in stories like this; A. if an edgy character tries to keep a cool and collected demeanor around babies, they will inevitably start baby talking and cuddling the kid after prolonged exposure - when caught, they vehemently deny everything or try to downplay it. B. If the kid is old enough, they try to act smarter and tougher for their age, which leads to them being bear hugged and fawned over, much to the kids annoyance and embarrassment.
And the third constant I use when written babies or toddlers in my stories ? The more protags meet the kid, the more of a Mama Bear/Papa Wolf army they gain. Threatening or trying to hurt the kid is a death wish.
Last Note: Unrelated to this post, but I mentioned a couple of time on my blog that I also wrote yet another crossover concept, this one being Star Wars, ATLA/LOK and the Godzilla franchise of all things. I think after sharing this post, I'm working up the courage to share what I have in mind and I’m already working on the docs I have for it.

So, let’s talk about James’s semblance, Mettle.
Ironwood's Semblance, Mettle, strengthens his resolve which allows him to carry through with his decisions, helping him hyper-focus (RWBY wiki)
Actual quotes on Ironwood’s semblance from the RTX RWBY Panel.
“So Ironwood does have a semblance. We - it’s in the show, it’s in like little bits, you can kind of see it. It’s more like a passive semblance that runs in the background.” Eddy Rivas
“The whole thing is just this kind of like, iron resolve-slash-will that like kind of powers him to - almost like a very stubbornly, narrow-set focus like mind set on things, to kind of like push himself to do what he’s decided he’s gonna do-” Eddy Rivas
“It kind of helps him like, hyper focus,” Kerry Shawcross
“Or like, pushing through something like searing the flesh off your arm. If like, this is the goal he needs to accomplish, everything else just goes by the wayside.” Miles Luna
“So that’s kind of running in the background of seven and eight a little bit.” Eddy Rivas
“So it felt a little weird and we just never put it on the page, but you can actually see it happening.” Eddy Rivas
“We could possibly get it out later, but we thought it’d be more fun for you to be able to watch volume eight, and go back and watch volume 7 knowing that.” Kerry Shawcross
So I’m going to be talking about some of the problems I think there are with Ironwood’s semblance and it not being included in the show. I’m going to be very critical of and bashing RWBY, and there’s probably going to be CRWBY bashing too. If you don’t want to see any of that or if you’re against any sort of pro Ironwood content, don’t read this post or interact.
So let’s try to piece together from these statements what Ironwood’s semblance is.
It’s a passive semblance. As far as I know, the only other passive semblance we have to judge how those work is Qrow. Unlike active semblances, Qrow’s passive semblance can’t be controlled, and can only be increased at will, but always runs at frequencies severe enough that Qrow thinks of it as controlling his life and preventing him from being able to be close to his family. From the way Qrow’s semblance behaves, we can extrapolate that James’s semblance likely works in the same way, and in the panel, it’s described as ‘running in the background.’ I.E. He can’t turn it off, it runs through his entire life, he can only increase it in certain times.
It’s described as hyper-focusing, stubbornness, narrow-set focus, being unable to concentrate or care about things outside of his set goal, and pushing himself in doing what he’s decided he has to do.
There are several reasons I want to talk about this semblance.
1. This semblance might’ve been newly invented for season 7 and 8. Why do I think this? Eddy Rivas says ‘I believe we called it Mettle’ in the panel (emphasis is mine,) and is talking like he was included in inventing it, even though he became a co-writer for volume 7. Also they don’t mention if it affected Ironwood pre-volume 7, they only mention it being seen or considering including it in volume 7 and 8. Also, the voice actor of James Ironwood didn’t know about this semblance until a fan told him. It’s possible that this semblance was written earlier, but I doubt it and I think that this semblance was invented in the conception of volumes 7 and 8 with Eddy Rivas being involved. As such, I’m going to view everything pre-volume 7 as actions we were intended to consider James’s actual character, and everything post-volume 6 as actions influenced by his semblance.
2. The fact that it’s not included is lazy. This is a character defining semblance. This colors literally everything that Ironwood does in seasons seven and eight, this is a major game changer, this changes any understanding of the character. I’ve said this before, but fans shouldn’t have to do homework to understand the story. Many fans don’t want to go searching through panels, wikis, books, and zoom meetings to try and piece together why a character might be the way they are or how the magic systems work. The fact that the semblance isn’t included has led to confusion about how the semblance works. Some RWBY fans will present the way they decided the semblance works and get actively angry at fans who headcanon that it works differently or are upset with the way the creators themselves described the semblance. Other fans act like RWBY critics who think Ironwood’s fall to villainy is hard to track are stupid for not knowing this completely unincluded detail, and other fans villainize the semblance and use it as a reason why Ironwood is an inherently bad person. On the flip side, James Ironwood fans are rightly confused at this semblance that seems like it could be an explanation for the sudden shifts in his character. Some of them don’t understand why this semblance isn’t explained and at least treated as a part of his fall and treated more sympathetically. The fact that it wasn’t explained in the show leads to fans coming up with their own conclusions, and then arguing over what version is viable or what the collective fandom should accept.
3. The semblance itself is a lazy explanation for his villainy. The creators didn’t write a convincing hero-to-villain story. Ironwood’s leaps in morality are made with very little groundwork or explanation, he goes from ‘doing what he feels needs to be done’ to threatening to bomb the remaining citizens of Mantle in a completely irrational time with laughter and smiles over the course of a season that didn’t really put the focus on that progression. The semblance wasn’t explained or even mentioned and Ironwood wasn’t treated with sympathy or understanding, because we were meant to hate him and see him as the enemy to the protagonists, who we were meant to see as completely right. But the semblance is then an easy explanation that ‘fills out the plot holes’ if CRWBY is asked, that they can use to justify the fall to villainy - or use to suddenly redeem James if they decide they want to. And as I said before, this semblance is already being used by the mega-fans to explain the fall to villainy and throw it in the faces of any critics. Once again, it feels like the writers are just coming up with whatever they can to make up for their shitty writing, while they also rely on their fans to fill in the gaps and ‘explain’ to critics exactly how they think the semblance works and act like the critics or bashers should’ve just come to the same conclusion they did.
4. The semblance is problematic because of how villainized James is specifically for things like his semblance. The semblance is literally the best possible explanation for Ironwood’s fall and the only one I’ve heard that makes any sense. But his semblance is literally described by the creators as ‘hyper-focusing.’ The fact that his semblance is treated as something that makes him more of a villain and something that aids in his destructive behavior that isn’t ever treated with an ounce of sympathy or understanding, is a really bad look. There are real-life people who hyper-fixate on things and can’t help it, and while James’s semblance might not be hyper-fixating exactly, CRWBY still hurt people with the way they talked about this semblance and how they included it in Ironwood’s fall. I’m not diagnosed and I’m therefore never sure of this, but I think I’m ADHD and hyper-fixate on things (like RWBY, lol.) I’ve never been sure exactly how I view Ironwood’s semblance, but hearing the way that the CRWBY head writers talk about it made me feel like I should keep that side of me from people who don’t know me well like my co-workers. Whether or not it was intended, that’s what CRWBY did, and there are many more people than just me who were hurt or bothered by this personally.
5. Since I’m assuming this semblance was a new addition to James in season 7 and 8, it really honestly feels disconnected. It’s a passive semblance, it’s meant to affect James during the course of his whole life because he can’t turn it off. But in volumes 2 and 3, he seems honestly receptive to Oz, listens to him, never goes too far, never seems too stubborn, never seems to ignore other problems to focus on one thing more than what’s perfectly normal for regular people. Before literally near the tail end of volume 7, Ironwood acted like a regular person unaffected by a semblance at all, who just happens to be a determined person facing hard situations. It really feels like the semblance was invented to explain the jump to villainy, and then used to explain how he did things like sear the flesh off of his arm in the Watts fight to be like ‘look, this didn’t come out of nowhere! There it is in this scene!’ which is really lazy. And the disjointed feeling between Ironwood from his first appearance and Ironwood post-shooting Oscar still takes you out of the story and makes you go ‘wait, what’s going on here?’ You shouldn’t be able to see the hand of the author, but it was very clear to me that the writers just wanted villain!Ironwood and just did whatever the hell they wanted to get there whether or not it made sense or what they had to force or forget to do it.
6. This semblance... Really makes Qrow look like a jerk. It makes everyone look like a jerk, but it especially makes Qrow look like a jerk. There’s a very, very strong probability that Qrow never had any idea about this semblance that Ironwood couldn’t control. But after spending volumes sympathizing with Qrow and feeling bad for him and understanding that a lot of his problems stemmed from his horrible lot in life that he wrongly blamed himself for, to see him ready to kill a former friend who is even more affected by and ruled by a semblance than Qrow ever was made me seriously annoyed with the writing. In my opinion, they should’ve had Qrow know about his semblance, know that it was affecting his every choice, be deeply sympathetic and bothered by the situation, and be trying to get out of jail so he could break Ironwood’s aura and jolt him out of his affected state. It would’ve been much, much better in my opinion, for Ironwood’s character, Qrow’s character, and the story as a general whole. The way that villain Ironwood was done just is not interesting to me in any way. Not only did CRWBY miss any opportunity to present a compelling hero-turned-villain story, but they also invented a reason for Ironwood to be deeply sympathetic and easily redeemed and then made no one understand that this was a problem and seem to be going out of their way to act like it’s not there at all to make Ironwood a full villain! Why give him the semblance at all if they were going to not use it and expect everyone to want him to be a full, incredibly hard to redeem, EVIL VILLAIN?
I seriously can’t understand CRWBY’s choices. In my opinion, they should’ve either made Ironwood a sympathetic hero forced into doing villainous actions by this semblance that they should’ve rephrased in terms of how it works, or they should’ve just left him with no explained semblance.
Also, I think Mettle is a stupid name.

Hello! I don't know if you've seen the Trollhunters series, but in the third season Jim has the opportunity to become a troll/human. However the effects would be permanent, and in the words of Merlin "Part of you will remain Jim, but the other part will never be the same." I've been thinking that something similar could happen with Oscar. That he has the opportunity to "fuse" his soul with the soul of Ozpin. Feeling not like Oscar, nor as Ozpin, but as someone else.
Tumblr media
Hi there Los! I have actually seen Trollhunters and was a fan of the series for a while when it first dropped. However I sadly never finished the series (or checking out all it’s other spin-offs). I made it as far as I think the sixth or seventh episode of S2 and never got around to finishing it. So…yeah, thank you for that nice spoiler there XD Just kidding, I kind of already know about the Jim turning into a troll bit but mostly from spoiler screenshots on Twitter. I didn’t really know the context behind it until you explained it. Again, thanks for the spoiler but it’s cool.
In regards to Oscar and Ozpin and the Merge—well once upon a time, in a RWBY Musing of mine way back before V6, I shared my own views on the merging of the two souls that was not so different from your theory fam.
I figured that the Merge would’ve been similar to fusion in Steven Universe and I even used the character of Garnet as my example. Not sure if you’re a SU fan but in the series, Garnet is a fusion of two gems named Ruby and Sapphire and the embodiment of their love for one another.
While Ruby and Sapphire are their own individual characters with their owndistinctive personalities, what’s interesting to note about Garnet is thatinspite of being a fusion of two gems, the show and by extension, the other characters within the Steven Universe world have always treated Garnet as her own character outside of the two gems she’s comprised of.
As a fusion, Garnet possesses physical characteristics, mannerisms and of course abilities that she inherited from Ruby and Sapphire respectively. Nonetheless, Garnet is still seen as her own gem and thus her own character. This is how I originally pegged the Merge to be with the treatment of the ‘new Oscar’ afterwards.
Tumblr media
This squiggle meister has NEVER 100% bought into the holdnotion of Oscar completely losing himself to the Merge. Ever more after I recapped V5 and remembered how Ozpin told RNJR that HE is the one destined to change with the fusing of the two souls. NOT Oscar.
I originally pictured the Merge would’ve involved Oscar and Oz forming a new persona who I dubbed the Wizard—the embodiment of both minds, inheriting all of Ozpin’s original memories and abilities while still retainingOscar as the dominant personality since he is supposed to be Ozpin’s successor.
Tumblr media
Despite the CRWBY Writers attempting to sort of convince the FNDM with the idea of Oscar disappearing entirely by having that be a concern of said character, I still don’t buy into it because there have been other little breadcrumbs sprinkled throughout the last few seasons that highlight Oscar’s experience with the Merge being different from his predecessors.
Hence why I’ve now dropped my original theory in favour of a new one. Nowadays, I’ve deviated to my Pinehead headcanon where I think that Oscar is actually Ozma
Tumblr media
I’m going to tag @daggerpawstudios here as well since my points in this response post also answers her inboxed question:
Hey squiggles!! I read your theory on Ozma and Oscar joining souls to just make Oscar whole again. I think you mat be on to something. I recebtly just rewatched eipsode 3 of volume 6 and i never noticed that Oscar and Ozma have the same voice actor as well. You can hear it wheb Ozma says his lines in the stories. I also find it interesting because it is implied that Oscar is the last recarnination of Ozma by the way he speaks in volume 5.
Basically my idea was that Oscar is possibly the teenage re-embodiment of Ozma’s original form that he never regained after his soul was first resurrected in the body of Diggs (Ozma 2.0). In the Lost Fable, it was highlighted that only Ozma was only brought back soul form. He never truly regained his original body; hence Ozma’s genuine surprise when he realized that he wasn’t in his old body and was instead inhabiting the mind of somebody else’s (Diggs).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It also justifies Oscar’s reaction to seeing Ozma’s shock of being paired with Diggs the firs time and his solemn “He didn’t know” remark since Ozma didn’t know the Gods would bring him back in the body that wasn’t his own.
Tumblr media
The narrative has placed too much emphasis on Oscar being his own person to just have him become somebody else.
Tumblr media
Not to mention there’s the whole important bit with Ozpin’s allies and enemies reacting to his sudden reappearance as if they weren’t expecting him back, at least not so soon.
My hunch with that the Ozma Cycle doesn’t work like the Avatar Cycle or the Doctor Lineage. Instead of being brought back almost immediately after the death of their predescessor within the same time period, my guess is that a new Wizard is reborn every half a century or so. I do a much better job at explaining this theory in this post right here.
But the general consensus is that Oz was NOT supposed to be back this soon.
I initially figured this was the case after recalling Lionheart’s reaction to Oscar back in V5 and Tyrian’s reaction to the news of his return in V6 and now  Ironwood’s reaction to Oscar being revealed as Ozpin’s successor in V7 further supports my theory.
“...This can’t be...I knew you would be back, but...you made it here! You found Qrow! How?” - Lionheart (RWBY V5 Chapter 11)
“...Ma’am. I have more to report. Qrow and the children are taking the Lamp to Atlas...” Hazel Rainart.“...Not if I can help it...” Tyrian Callows“...And they’re being led by Ozpin.” Hazel“...So soon?!” Tyrian (RWBY V6 Chapter 4)
“Oz? I’m so glad you’re here. I didn’t think you---” Ironwood (RWBY V7 Chapter 2)
Here are three examples of characters being surprised to see Ozpin back so prematurely so clearly there is something is very, very different about the Cycle when it comes to Oscar.
Instead of being reborn in another like-minded soul possibly years down the line as the cycle probably works, Ozpin’s soul took an unexpected detour and was instead paired up with Oscar.
You might be asking why though?
Why would the cycle suddenly do this all of a sudden and why would it suddenly chose Oscar Pine—a 14-year-old farm boy from Mistral all of a sudden.
This brings me to my headcanon. I’d like to believe that Ozma’s cyclehas been pretty consistent up until Oscar’s lifetime. While the show didn’thave Ozpin make a big deal about him suddenly being brought back sooner than usual inside the body of Oscar Pine, it’s the characters associated with Ozpin and the Ozma Cycle that give me this strong impression.
I’d like to think there is something very special about Oscar that sets him apart from other Wizards and Ozma successors and it’s why I strongly believe his experience with the Merge will be much different and much more significant.
Tumblr media
This is why I like my theory of Oscar secretly being Ozma’s original body that he never regained after his first reincarnation, now resurrected in Modern Remnant and given a second chance at life.
This theory of mine was inspired by a similar scenario in the magical girl series Sakura Cardcaptors where the character of Eriol Hiraigazawa is one half reincarnation of the great wizard and creator of the Clow Cards: Clow Reed while the second half was Sakura’s father.
Both characters were two halves of Clow Reed, only Eriol was the younger half who inherited all of Clow’s memories and magical abiltiies while Sakura’s father---Fujitaka Kinomoto---didn’t.
My idea was that since Ozpin is the current version of Ozma’s soul (theculmination of him and all the other Wizards over the years), if Oscar is revealed as the other reincarnated half of Ozma---his body--- then that could mean that our impression of the Merge has been wrong.
What if...the Merge isn’t meant to erase Oscar. It’s meant to make him whole. Body and Soul together as one make a person, right?
So my idea was that merging with Ozpin would help Oscar see the truth of who he really is. That Oscar is in fact the one true Ozma.
Tumblr media
This also ties into my theory where I believe Oscar is meant to represent the end of the Ozma Reincarnation Cycle. He’s meant to be the last life.
This is also why I love the idea of him being revealed to be the true Ozma. This whole shebang with Salem began with him in his first lifetime and therefore should end with him in his last lifetime.
Ozma was the beginning so Oscar will be the end. The end of a cycle.
I love the concept of the Merging of the Two Souls actually representing the reunion of Ozma’s soul with his original body, therefore fully resurrecting the original Warrior of Light from First Remnant to become the Warrior of Light of the New Remnant.
...or at least one of them.
Tumblr media
The irony with this is that neither Ozma’s soul nor his body are the same anymore. They’ve both been changed. Ozma or rather the soul of Ozma has definitely changed from all of his lifetimes spent living in the company of the like-minded men he was paired with while his original body was given a new life and purpose in the Modern Word.
Ozma has been a lingering sentiment of First Remnant who has withstood the ultimately test of time. This all started with him and Salem basically. Ozma is a primary player in RWBY’s key arc with Salem. All the more reason why I think it would be so cool if Ozma and Oscar are actually one and the same.Thinkabout it.
I also really love the concept ofor the obvious nod to the Wizard of Oz and its sequel story--- The Marvelous Land of Oz.
Wasn’t the Wizard original believed to be the ruler of Oz until  later it was ultimately revealed that Princess Ozma was the true ruler.
Princess Ozma was the true ruler of Oz. Oscar is true reincarnation of Ozma. Here we’re all thinking that Oscar is going to become the Wizard when it actuality, he’s the true ruler of Oz.  Think about it.
Tumblr media
Imagine…how compelling of a twist it would be if, here we have Oscar believing that he’s going to lose himself entirely to Ozma—becoming someone he didn’t recognize—living as just another one of Ozma’s many lives when in reality, he’s not meant to lose himself.
He’s going to be made whole again. He wouldn’t become someone he didn’t know. He’ll be himself again and instead of living another life as Ozma, Oscar will be the proper second chance at a new life that Ozma never thought he’d get.
I really like the idea of Oscar realizing he is in fact the real Ozma and then afterwards deciding for himself who he wants to be.
Now that he knows the truth of who he really is, courtesy of the Merge, does hetake back his original Ozma name or will be continue forward as Oscar?
Naturally, Oscar chooses to be Oscar. Although folks can still address him as ‘Oz’ if they’d like for those who were more familiar with him under that nickname.
Fun Fact: Did you know that ‘Oz’ is actually a pet name for ‘Oscar’.
Tumblr media
As Oscar, our little barn prince now fully reborn as a Warrior of Light, still plans on fulfilling his duty to save humanity from Salem but he now does so under the firm motivation that his life as Oscar will be his final one. No more innocent souls being dragged into his war with Salem. It may have began with Ozma but it will end with Oscar.
This is my current impression on the Merge and my main theory for where I think Oscar’s Arc might go. I could essentially be wrong but nonetheless, this is one of my favourite Pinehead headcanons that I really, really love at the moment. And I hope you like it too, Los.
I hope this post also answers your question along with Dagger’s.

Preface
RWBY is the breakthrough anime web series created by the late Monty Oum of Rooster Teeth. Originally teased on November 5th, 2012, and officially debuted July 18th, 2013, the series follows the journeys of four young women enrolled in an academy that trains monster-slaying warriors known as Huntsmen. Set in the fictional world of Remnant, the story initially focuses on the surface-level plot of fighting against humanity’s ancient adversary, the ever-present Creatures of Grimm; over time, it becomes apparent that things aren’t what they seem, as the cast slowly begins to connect a string of heists committed by a criminal syndicate with the violent acts of a terrorist cell. The series is aired weekly on Rooster Teeth’s website, with its main arcs spanning 12 – 16 episodes per volume. In the years following the show’s initial release, RWBY has spawned numerous merchandise and related media, including two spin-off shows, multiple side-stories published as mangas, two standalone books, three mobile games, a behind-the-scenes artbook, and OSTs for every volume to date.
As of Volume 7 there are 98 episodes in total with a collective runtime of 18:52:00, or approximately 1,132 minutes, with more episodes and side content underway.
At best, they’re visually interesting; at worst, they’re disappointing.
Let me take a second to backtrack before the lynch mob starts to sharpen its pitchforks. The series deserves much of the praise that it’s gotten. RWBY was the first American-produced anime to be released in Japan (and if you’re a fan of anime, you know how insane those words sound). The 3D models and animation from Volume 4 onward are breathtakingly stunning, and even before the show made the leap from Poser to Maya, the fight sequences managed to be equally creative and entertaining. The show was nominated for and received multiple Streamy Awards, and was awarded Best Animated Series by the International Academy of Web Television. The Volume 1 soundtrack reached number one on iTunes, beating out the soundtrack for The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. Such is RWBY’s (and Rooster Teeth’s) reputation that it managed to attract the attention of, and later bring on, industry veterans and vocal legends such as Jen Taylor, Josh Grelle, and Aaron Dismuke.
That’s to say nothing of the fandom this franchise has amassed, of kids, teenagers, and young adults alike. RWBY has generated dozens of forums dedicated to fanfiction, fanart, and roleplaying. Thousands of people the world over have bonded over this show, fans from all walks of life. They’re passionate about this series. The fact that I’m writing this post is a testimony of that. If I didn’t care about RWBY, I wouldn’t be sitting on my couch at 3 AM, hunched over my laptop in my pajamas.
If RWBY is so good (or occasionally threatens to become good), you might be wondering, why, then, does this blog exist?
Well, because…when you stop and look at it critically, it actually kind of sucks.
Despite initially being written by a three-man team, the series is full of inconsistencies and an underdeveloped cast. The characters, especially from Volumes 1 — 3, are full of one-dimensional stereotypes whose contributions to the story amount to a three-word summary: “The School Bully,” “The Wacky Professors,” “The Racist Cop,” “The Cutthroat Bitch,” “The Anime Waifu,” “The Audience Surrogate,” “Discount Elle Woods,” and so on. Fundamental elements of the story, like Aura, Semblance, and Dust, are either poorly-explained or not explained at all, and the limitations of those core concepts can change at a moment’s notice to suit the needs of the plot. The primary antagonist of the first three volumes is universally hated by the fandom for having no discernible motivations beyond being “ambitious and power-hungry,” and having a personality that consists exclusively of irritating smug. The show-writers, despite repeatedly promising queer representation, have failed to make even one of their ten central protagonists queer. This isn’t touching upon the fact that the first openly-gay character on the show was an antagonist, or that the next two were side-characters who were relevant to the plot for all of seven episodes, before vanishing from the story entirely. The two leads that are currently being hyped as our first queer main-cast members have only been repeatedly teased, with said characters never once uttering the words, “I’m bi,” “I date women,” “I’m not straight”—nothing but narrative subtext and playful winks from the VAs whenever a fan asks if they’re queer. Subplots end up having no pay-off or get entirely forgotten mid-volume. The story is so protagonist-biased that the heroes are frequently able to get away with being hypocritical, or committing criminal acts because “it was the right thing to do,” with their POV framed as an infallible “fuck you, got mine” verbal gut-punch to the audience (while other characters in the show, who often make the exact same calls as the heroes, are ridiculed by the show and the fandom). Whenever the story isn’t spray-painting stolen cars and selling them to their original owners, it manages to clumsily handle allegories for real-world issues such as systemic racism, mental illness, abuse dynamics/victim survivorship, and gray morality. The worldbuilding is absent from the main show and has to be supplemented through RWBY’s spin-off series World of Remnant. The story’s setting feels flat and lifeless at times because the “cultures” of this world are never established.
The list goes on and on.
So if this show has so many flaws, why are we still having this conversation?
Because I’m captivated by the untapped potential of this world. When you brush away all of the detritus, you can see the wealth of raw material buried beneath. This is a world where the gods have forsaken their creations, with one having even deliberately created the monsters that hunt humanity. The two characters who are central to the history of this world are tragic figures, one cursed with immortality as a punishment for demanding that the gods revise the first draft, and do away with needless death; and the other, cursed to ceaselessly reincarnate into the minds and bodies of like-minded souls, waging a war of attrition against a person warped beyond recognition by the capricious spite of the gods. This is a world of forgotten magic, of shifting allegiances, of characters embarking on personal journeys and unearthing deadly secrets. It’s a story of people from all walks of life learning to cooperate and work together, forging friendships and alliances in order to face the challenges that lie ahead.
It could easily have the bones of an epic fantasy series as long as it remembers to drink its milk.
RWBY’s issues aren’t insurmountable. Most of them are the byproduct of the series’ blind adherence to “rule of cool,” the motto that practically codified the beginning of the show. From Volume 4 onward, the series took a radical shift in tone that tried to be “more mature,” and only succeeded in making the earlier episodes absurd in hindsight. Why, in Volume 6, are the characters concerned about civilian endangerment, when in Volume 2 they happily pursued a giant mech in a highway car-chase scene that would’ve caused untold collateral damage and civilian death? This change in storytelling created a thematic disparity that reoccurs time and time again, retroactively emphasizing just how inconsistent the worldbuilding and storytelling are.
It tried to be Avatar: The Last Airbender, and what we’re left with instead is Game of Thrones Season 8.
Now, I’m not using this blog as a platform to damn Monty Oum (or claim to be a better creator than him). But it’s important to address the flaws in his story, and to acknowledge that his passing doesn’t make RWBY somehow sacrosanct or immune to constructive criticism. RWBY has flaws, ranging from nitpicky to potentially capable of causing real-world harm (in the case of the aforementioned queerbaiting and racism analogies). I’m a firm believer that art doesn’t exist in a vacuum; art is informed by our beliefs just as much as art informs our beliefs. We can still respect and admire the potential RWBY has to offer, while being mindful of where it needs to improve.
That’s where this blog comes in.
At the end of the day, the RWBY Redux exists as a thought experiment. I’m writing it chiefly to entertain worldbuilding ideas and headcanons I’ve spent years musing on. I’m not asking readers to agree with any of my numerous stances, nor am I going to shy away from other fans’ criticism as I hammer this project out. With a little TLC, perhaps I’ll manage to create something that manages to be more complex than its source material. And if you choose to follow along with my endeavors, hopefully you’ll find this project equal parts engaging and entertaining.
Wish me luck.

You think writers have an obligation to write literally whatever their fans want them to write? fans aren't the bosses of the writers of anything. they don't pay creators, gendy is paid by the network. Why are you acting like writers are slaves. I'm not jealous of your RWBY fnafiction lmao and you don't owe anyone anything because you write what you want, regardless of whether or not you get paid. you're really out here acting like content creators are slaves -_-
First of all, you don't know what objectively means. Second of all, if you think a writer is literally a slave to any fan, what makes your opinion any more valid than mine? i think he did a good job, why does ur negative opinion get to override mine as "objective" and more importantly why do u think that should force Gendy to write anyone an apology? He promised no one anything. He didn't make any promise to any fan, including you, that he would write the show how YOU wanted. you arent the boss
Congratulations on missing the point. I never said writers should be slaves I said they have an obligation to their audience to do good work. You’re putting words in my mouth to change the discussion. Writers owe their audience, who support their show and even pay money for their product, a good product. When I say that Genndy should have written better for the fans I never said he had to do anything specific aside from deliver a satisfying conclusion to a show that had a ten plus year haitus and was finally getting the ending it never got. Ending Samurai Jack with Jack miserable and depressed with a hollow victory over his mortal foe is not a good ending. At all. It’s a middle finger. Yes fans wanted to see Jack succeed and get his happy ending, especially after season 5 had him suffer through 50 years of misery. Satisfying your audience is kinda the point. If your job is to be a writer you should kinda, you know, write well.
There is such a thing as objectively good writing. The last three episodes of season 5 were objectively bad. Whether you enjoyed it or not doesn’t change that the last three episodes were hot garbage and destroyed all the good Samurai Jack had built up. You’re the one who doesn’t understand objectivity because what you’re arguing is “I liked it so it’s good” which is a completely subjective point. Can you back up why it’s good? Can you explain why Samurai Jack’s last three episodes are immune from criticism? You really can’t because your viewpoint is entirely subjective. The only people who try to dismiss the concept of objectivity can’t use it to support their arguments.
And I’m laughing at the “He promised no one anything. He didn't make any promise to any fan, including you, that he would write the show how YOU wanted.” part. You people really need to stop acting like the only reason people don’t like something is because it somehow didn’t conform to every detailed headcanon. I just want a good story. That’s my expectation. I don’t care if something doesn’t do everything I wanted. ATLA and Gravity Falls don’t do everything I wanted and I still love those shows because they’re well written. When Genndy made season 5 that was with the promise of us getting the conclusion that we were robbed of with Samurai Jack’s cancellation. You’re acting like he has to literally say “I promise that I’ll write the show well”. That promise to the audience is inherent in the show. Why in the world would anyone dedicate time from their life to watch a crappy show or one that will end by giving them a huge middle finger and waste their time? Why would anyone pay money for DVDs and Blurays of a show that they know will be badly written? No one would. The creators and the audience have an understanding that the creators will do their best, and when they as professionals put out crappy work that’s absolutely worth criticizing.

Oscar loses control of his hidden powers because of Ironwood testing on him or something. Oscar ends up just like Agatha from Paranorman? Agatha was mistreated because of her powers and ended up being very vengeful , so imagine Oscar being pushed to the edge and just,, snapping. Ruby has to talk Oscar down from this state. idk im not good at writing but i do think it would be an interesting idea
Tumblr media
Ironically enough anon-chan,I’ve pondered a similar concept once upon a time. Considering that Oscar’svoice actor: Aaron Dismuke was formerly the voice of Alphonse Elric from theoriginal Fullmetal Alchemist (before Brotherhood) one thing I’ve been curiousabout is whether or not the CRWBYWriters might introduce elements of Oscar’s story inspired by FullmetalAlchemist.
One idea I’ve talked aboutbefore is one where Oscargoes on a journey inside of his mind in an effort to find Ozpin and bring himback. However upon discovering Oz, Oscar is saddenedto see that the old soul has no desire to leave his isolation from the team. InsteadOz forces Oscar out of his own mind. My rationale for the possibility of amoment like this is for the obvious homage to the moment in Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood where Ed finds Alphonse’s human body--- hair long fromyears without grooming and skeletally thin from lack of nutrients - sittingalive before the second Gate.
Tumblr media
However before Ed couldmove further and make a run for his brother, he is restrained and dragged backto his own gate by shadowy black hands. In that moment, Ed begs Al to returnwith him, however the soulless body only responds that he cannot leave withanyone who isn’t his own soul. This later prompts Ed to make a firm vow that hewill return someday to retrieve Al.
Tumblr media
This was a moment I was hoping to seemimicked in RWBY for Oscar and Ozpin’s relationship, especially now that Oz haslocked himself deep within Oscar’s mind. I was hoping for a Journey to Oz subplot for Oscar’s story where he enters a deep sleep, divinginto his own mind on a quest to find the reluctant Oz.
It is on this journey where the audiencegets a visual insight into Oscar’s mind; accompanying the young farm boy as herelives not just the memories of the remaining Wizard’s lifetimes who weren’tpresent in Jinn’s recollection of Ozma’s story (such as the Hermit, the King ofVale and Professor Ozpin) but also Oscar’s memories too.
If not the other Wizards then I would at least likefor a Journey of Oz subplot to reveal more about Oscar---such as his past with hisunknown family (like his aunt from V4). My concept for this Pinehead headcanon of mine was that Oscar is forced to relive his pastthrough his own repressed memories in order to reunite with Ozpin again. Sofans get to learn more about who Oscar was growing up through the cherished memoirsdocumented in his mind.
Tumblr media
I like the idea of Oscar actually attempting twice to get Ozpinto return. The first time he relives most of hismemories from birth to present day, inclusive of two memoriy that reveals twoevents unseen from the audience--- the moment that finally convinced Oscar toleave home back in V4 and happened to him after he suddenly went missing in V6.
Back during V6, there was theorycirculating around the Pinehead community that premised Oscar making a desperate attempt to reconnectwith Ozpin after running away from the Cotta-Arc residence. I actually think this is a pretty neat idea. It would be cool ifOscar tried to get in touch with Oz for some kind of consolation and guidancefollowing his fallout with Jaune.
Of course he’s met with silence; to which Oscareventually gives up and decides to find his own way of dealing with the issueon his own. I like the idea of Oscar trying to reconnect with Oz during hismissing development back in V6 and this actually being what prompted Oz to comeback in a way.
Tumblr media
Like perhaps Oz had locked himself pretty far inside Oscar’s mindat first. But upon realizing that Oscar was trying to reach him after goingthrough his own heartache with the team, this is what kind of makes him stepoutside. He of course doesn’t communicate with Oscar or make his presence knownto him. But it’s enough to make Oz concerned for Oscar.
So he basically comesslightly out of isolation but stays close enough so that he ensure that Oscaris okay, in a way. I’d like to think that even in wallowing in his own anguishand self-resentment, Oz still can’t shake that side of him that’s paternal and nurturing in nature---having lived lives as both a parent andmentor---both caretakers of young minds.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I’d like to think that Oscar’s missingdevelopment from V6 sparked Oz to step outside of his solitude for the firsttime since he locked himself away. Again, he remains isolated enough that Oscarcan’t detect that he’s there but still close enough that he can keep a watchfuleye on Oscar. Y’know just in case the boy might need him while simultaneouslythinking he might be better off without him. Like it’s almost like a reflex ina way with Oz behaving like an emotionally exhausted parent who wants nothingmore than to be alone yet they still can’t help but instinctively stay closeenough to protect their kin if needed; if that makes sense.
Anyways, returning to my headcanon,Oscar finds Ozpin in this memory however when Oscar pleads for Oz to come backwith him, Oz refuses. He even forces Oscar out of his own mind, but not beforeOscar makes a solemn promise to bring Oz back.
Despite a saddened Oz stubbornly tellingOscar that he won’t return and there’s nothing he could do or say to change theold soul’s mind, Oscar, determinedly tells him that he will bring him back nomatter what it takes. This is the kind of moment I wanted to see done for theBoy with Two Souls as a nice call back to Fullmetal Alchemist.
The second time Oscar goes in search ofOzpin, he is surprise to uncover that Oz had returned to his tower ofisolation---making things more difficult for Oscar by hiding himself deeperinside Oscar’s mind in a place where Oz believed Oscar would never dare comelook for him.
Not because the journey would be toughbut because it would be too painful for the young boy. One of my long-standingtheories for Oscar’s backstory is thathe suffered a very traumatic event which resulted in the loss of a close familymember who Oscar loved dearly---possiblyhis mother or father or perhaps both parents. I’m still clinging to the idea that Oscarwas originally raised by a single parent prior to living with his aunt with hisdear ole dad now being my number one choice.
Rather than dealing with the heartache and grief thatcame with losing a close loved one and the life he had previously, Oscar suppressed both the memory and his true feelingsdeep inside his mind
, refusing to face it. In asimilar fashion to Ozpin, Oscar supressed the truth and pain that came with hisown past. I like the idea of the two sharing in the loss of loved ones; blamingthemselves for their untimely deaths and feeling as if they had both failed anddisappointed them in some way.
I like this idea just as much as I like the ideaof Oz making himself at home behind this particular memory of Oscar’s. It’s theone he related to the most with him. Not to mention that it’s the one he knewOscar wouldn’t dare enter past cause he knew, ever since the two first bonded, just how much the young boy did not wish to face this pain.
Tumblr media
But unfortunately forOscar, this was where he needed to go to find Oz and unbeknownst to Ozpin, hehad completely underestimated Oscar’s resolve to bring him home.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So pretty much the thought is that Oscar must face his most painful repressed memoryin order to find Oz. Just as how our heroes forced Oz toface the truth of his past---in a way, Oscar has to do the same. Face a memoryand truth to his past that he forced himself to lock away since he didn’t wantto face it.
But Oscar goes through with it anyways for Oz. Andfrom going through this ordeal, not only is Oscar able to finally find closurewith the forgotten misgivings and feeling of anguish, grief and guilt from hispast mistake, but it also helps him to better understand Oz leading to the twosouls finds acceptance with one another for the first time since they werepaired. That was my idea for Oscar and Ozpin subplot. Will we actually get thatfor V7? Probably not.
But regardless, I am curious to see howthe Writers resolve the tension between Oscar and Ozpin. I’m not sure if theCRWBY Writers plan on having Oscar andOz merge for V7 or if their intent is to drag this outfor several more seasons.
I mean, I actually believe narratively that V7 would be the perfect chance to have the two souls mergewith Oscar accepting Ozpin as a part of him.
Since V5, it has been foreshadowed that Oscar isn’tthe one to change with the Merge. It’s Ozpin. Ozpin is destined to become a part ofOscar. As a matter of fact, my belief is what will visually happen during theMerge is that Ozpin---the current version of Ozma’s soul---will ultimatelycease to look like his former self and instead, Ozpinwill change to look like Oscar.
After that, he will become a part of Oscar with him inheriting all of hismemories and at long last, Oscar will be whole. The two souls will become onemind. And that one mind will be oneperson and his name will be OscarPine.
Tumblr media
That’s pretty much my idea with that.I’m starting to wonder if Oscar’s story for V7 would involve him and Oz withthe Merge at all. I mean, I’d like for Oz to still be around in the story longenough for him to reconcile things with everyone else.
However at the same timeI don’t want things to return to what it was like before with Ozpin constantlyeclipsing Oscar’s screen time and development. If these two are meant to mergeand be one person, do it already so Oscar can be one complete character who canthen begin the next chapter of his character development as Ozpin’s successorin Ozma’s Cycle.
Because as much as I like Ozpin as a character, Ihonestly feel like his presence has been a hindrance to Oscar’s progress than acomplement and that’s mostly due in part to how poorly the CRWBY Writers havehandled these two together.
Rather than striking a perfectbalance between both souls, their individual stories and theirshared storyline together, it feels as if Oz had been riding coattail with theWriters often using Oscar’s face to push his development while Oscar’s owngrowth gets subdued and ignored most of the time.
It’s part of the reason whyI’m in denial of the Writers’ promise for Oscar development for V7 given histreatment in V5 and V6, especially after Oz was taken out of the story.
Tumblr media
But anyways, enough about that. That’snot really what I’m supposed to be answering anyway. Going back to what I wassaying before about the CRWBY drawing inspiration from Fullmetal Alchemist, Ihave another idea Pineheadheadcanon I pondered about before which sort ofties into your idea about Oscarsnapping from his mistreatment by Ironwood.
Here me out with this one. For the Fullmetal Alchemist fans in the FNDM, do you rememberthe Mannequin Soldiers or the ‘ImmortalLegion’ from Brotherhood?
Tumblr media
The ImmortalLegion were an army of mannequins that onceinjected with liquid Philosopher’s Stone, will attack without fear of death orharm. And to add another layer of tragedy to these beasts, they wereadditionally fuelled by victimizedsouls.
You can kind of guess where I’m goingwith this, right? We know the series had mentioned that Atlas has been conductingexperiments in order to learn about aura scientifically. If this is somethingthat Atlas does then what’s stopping someone from abusing this type oftechnology and research?
As far as we know, Penny Polendina was the first artificial lifeformto produce an aura so one can easily deduce that Pennywas a by-product of those same aura experiments. The only successful one, that is. So, that being said, I repeat the question again. What’sstopping someone corrupted from using this same research to build themselves anarmy of artificial beings powered by aura?
Why am Ibringing this up, you might ask? Wellin the V7 trailer, Ironwood mentioned something about ‘needinga new approach to stopping Salem’. We alsoknow that Penny was originally the first of her kind created to protecthumanity as she told Ruby back during the events of V2 if I’m rememberingcorrectly.
I’d also like to believe that followingwhat occurred during the Vytal Festival, Ironwood probably discontinued hisresearch on aura after what happened to Penny, his first and only successfultest subject from the experiment.
My hunch is that Penny was a robotic replicacreated from one soul---the harnessed soul of Professor Polendina’s deceaseddaughter. I’d like to think that Dr. Polendina once had a young daughter whowas terminally ill and one her death bed as a result of incurable disease.
My theory is that Penny was born as ameans for Dr. Polendina trying to salvage and preserve what was left of hislittle girl. Penny, by my theories, was possibly Dr. P’s daughter’s secondchance at life for it was her aura that brought this lifeless robotic puppet tolife (I’d also like to think that the Relic of Creation also had a hand in thisas well).
My hunch is that after successfullyreviving Dr. P’s daughter in the form of Penny, the doctor probably wished todiscontinue his research on aura but it was actually Ironwood who insisted onhaving Penny train to become a huntress for the military. Given how protectivePenny described her father to be, it wouldn’t surprise me if that was the case.
While Ironwood probably wished to expand theexperiment, Dr. P simply wanted his daughter back. A daughter he was forced tosee die twice.
Tumblr media
I’d like to think that after whathappened to Penny, out of respect for Dr. P and his loss, the scientist madeIronwood promise that he would never resume his experiments. At least, not withPenelope’s soul. My theory is that, although Penny’s robotic body gotdestroyed, her aura---her soul was still salvaged.
It makes me curious if for V7 we’ll be seeing what anaura looks like when harnessed. Like picture Penny’s soul being kept in somekind of containment jar. Like Dr. P holds Penny’s soul in some kind of jar ashis way of still holding onto his daughter’s life. He doesn’t want or trust Ironwood and his military to use Penny like they did ever again, but at the same time he’snot quite ready to let her go yet. As a grieving father, Dr. P is still dealingwith accepting that Penny is gone and may never come back. And I’d like tothink that this can tie into Ruby’s reservations over Penny’s death andPyrhha’s.
Not sure if the CRWBY Writers are going to have Penny rebuilt and return for V7and the Atlas Arc. But regardless, I think it would be interesting to see Ruby,as the closest thing to Penny’s best friend in the series, deal with her ownmisgivings over losing Penny by bonding with her father. It may even lend to her further development as a Silver Eyed Warrior. But who knows, y’know?
Tumblr media
Keeping all that in mind here, what if…Ironwood,in his desperation and paranoia, gets the brilliant idea to use the researchgathered from the creation of Penny to create a full-fledge army of advancedrobotic soldiers who, similar to Penny, possess the abilityto produce an aura.
Since Salem is an immortal, the notionwould be to create an army that matches her invulnerability. By creating anarmy powered by aura, Ironwood would be able to command his own army ofsoldiers who can’t die in combat. Because they are machines, they can easily berepaired in the face of damage and since these soldiers will be powered byaura, even if the soldier’s mechanical body is destroyed, the aura used to fuelit will remain in tact and could potentially be salvaged and implanted intoanother body for reuse. That’s the idea. Ironwood even goes as part as to this hypotheticalarm of his as the, quote unquote, ‘ImmortalLegion’.
Again, see where I’m going with this, folks? I like the idea of Ironwood making the decision to resume development onAtlas Aura Experimentation as his solution to ultimately figuring out a way tostop Salem. In another version of this headcanon, I painted the impression ofIronwood believing Oscar’s soul to holding the key to stopping Salem once andfor all and was willing to subject the young boy to painful experiments inorder to prove it, even if said experiments could potentially kill Oscar.
In this alternative to that sametheory, I’m going to paint another picture. Imagineif…Oscar is Ironwood’s golden ticket toachieving his Immortal Legion. While Penny provided James with the buildingblocks to construct his army from, at the end of day Penny was only one soulcapable of powering only one robotic body.
I’d like to believe that one limit to auraexperimentation is that while the soul can be harnessed and placed into anotherbody, replicating it is impossible even by scientific means. Even if Ironwooddesired to forge an entire army from Penny Polendina’s single soul, he wouldn’thave been able to achieve this goal for two reasons. One because Dr. P wouldn’thave consented to him using his daughter’s soul in such a manner and secondly,it’s impossible for one’s aura to be surplused as a power supply since auracan’t be copied and no single soul is powerful enough to achieve such a feat. …Orso…Ironwood believed.
Tumblr media
My theory is that in the event of Ironwooddesiring to manufacture an army of immortal robotic soldiers powered by aura,it would be Oscar’s soul he uses to fuel his Immortal Legion. Let’s not forgetthat Oscar may be his own person but he isn’t just one soul either. He is aculmination of his own soul and the souls of all the past Wizards that camebefore him in Ozma’s cycle. Technically by my understanding, Oscar is aura gold mine---the perfect source to fuel Ironwood’s Immortal Legion as hewill come to soon see.
So by my headcanons, Ironwood basically tricks Oscar into becomingsome kind of battery for his army designed to combat Salem. Oscar is kidnapped and forced into undergoing a painfulexperiment that practically rips his soul apart and used it to power awaken anarmy of robotic soldiers powered by Oscar’s soul but all programmed to obeyIronwood. And one of Ironwood’s first orders of business is to use his Legion toattack the JNR_QRWMBY when they become a threat to his schemes. Our heroesstage a full on assault against Ironwood and his military in the hopes rescuingthe captured Oscar. However what the huntsmen discover waiting for them is fardeadly than what they imagined.
The Legion prove themselves to be anexceptionally resilient and formidable foe. Since Atlas is known for its mightand technological advancement, I like the idea of Ironwood creating his Legionto be self-repairing. Like imagine something along the lines of the Legionbeing made from nearly indestructible metal combined with some form ofnanotechnology that results in the machine being able to instantly repair anydamage to its body on the spot in real time as its taking damage.
So even if an opponent aims for the machine’s limbs, the technology infused in its body enables it to easily regenerate and repairparts on the fly as quick as it takes damage. Like something straight out ofclassic Terminator.
Tumblr media
Another justification as to why theLegion prove difficult for our heroes to fight is the idea of RWBY and JNRbeing very reluctant to attack the army since, at the core, the Legion is Oscar.
Since the Legion are powered by Oscar’saura, this makes them connected to him in some shape or form so essentially anymajor harm dealt to the robotic army could potentially cause a chain reactionthat can mortally harm Oscar and none of the heroes were willing to take thatrisk.
So our heroes have no choice but todisarm the machines without destroying them. Fighting their way as a means ofsurviving long enough for, let’s say someone smart like Dr. P to figure out away to dispel the entire army and free Oscar.
At some point during the rescue mission, everyone getssplit up somehow. Let’ssay Ruby, by some means, winds up on her own separated fromthe others while huffing it, trying to outrun a pack of Legion hot on her tail.To add another coat of inspiration from Fullmetal Alchemist, y’know the part ofthe story with Nina, that’s pretty much a meme right now? Y’know how Nina wasturned into a talking chimera by her father and the way in which Ed and Alfigured this out was when the Chimera Nina spoke to Ed and called him ‘Big Brother Edward’.
Tumblr media
Well…picturethis. Ironwood manages to corner Ruby on abridge suspended over a deep canyon. On one side stood Ironwood leading a packof Legion and on the other side a dead end. Not even Ruby’s semblance would bestrong enough to save her since she was too exhausted from fending off theother Legion in her wake.
Ironwood then orders the Legionaccompanying him to kill Ruby. At first Ruby does well enough against theoncoming Legion by managing to dodge their attacks by knocking them off thebridge. However Ruby on her own is no match for both the Legion and Ironwoodwho immediately blindsides her.
With only one Legion remaining, let’s say…Ironwood orders it to killRuby for her insubordination (because atthis point he’s gone off the deep end). However instead of obeying his commandlike before, the lone Legion prepares its weapon to fire at Ruby only tosuddenly freeze.
It’s mechanical red eye starts to shifterratically; flashing between red and a familiar shade of green; as if therobotic beast was warring with itself.
Ironwood screams his orders to killRuby again at the machine and for a second time, his demands are ignored.
Then ina static robotic voice, the Legion speaks. It says “…Ru…Ru…by…”
Even though it’s clearly a machine imitating a humanvoice, the manner in which it says it immediately lets Ruby know that it’sOscar in there---Oscar’s soul speaking to her through the machine. I mean itwouldn’t be the first time we’ve heard Aaron Dismuke voice a human voice comingfrom an artificial body, now would it?
Tumblr media
Anyways the deviant Legion---that Ishall hereby dub Oscar-Bot---speaks again.
He says “…Ru…by.Must…not…hurt…Ru…by…” Oscar-bot then looks directly at Ironwood and says “…You…will…NOT…useme…for THIS!”
So basically, Oscar-bot ends upprotecting Ruby from Ironwood. Like after it hesitates to kill her, an infuriatedIronwood forces Oscar-bot out of the way by putting a bullet in the machine’shead. Ruby screams Oscar’s name as the lifeless machine falls to the floor.Ruby cries over this while Ironwood sort of mocks her for it. As Ironwoodprepares to give Ruby her own shot of death, something incredibly unexpectedhappens.
Despite being shot, the Oscar Bot comesback online. The Oscar Bot then tries to stop Ironwood from harming Ruby.Y’know how in Terminator, we have that badass moment where Sarah Conner puts severalshots in the evil Terminator. Well picture something like that where Ironwooddares to harm Ruby but Oscar Bot is determined to protect her.
Ironwood naturally busts a couple ofcaps in Oscar-bot but no matter how many times he shoots at the robot, it justkeeps coming. I like the satire in a moment like this since Ironwood equippedhis Immortal Legion with all the tools to combat Salem and keep coming back asmuch as she could. And now his own creation turns on him and it’s theenhancement that he built into them that’s keeping him from destroying it,basically.
Ironwood eventually shoots at Oscar-bot until he runsout of bullets. By this time, Oscar-bot is already in front of him, toweringover the General. Ruby watches on in amazement as Ironwood tries to fight therelentless Oscar-bot, throwing punches and kicks at him. But the machinedoesn’t go down. The stubbornsoul fuelling its body wouldn’t let up as he was determinedto prevent Ironwood from harming his beloved red rose.
Tumblr media
Eventually Ruby uses the distractionprovided by Oscar-bot to assist him. Let’s say, while Ironwood is about to pummel Oscar-bot when Ruby grabs herweapon and fires a shot that…I dunno…blasts Ironwood’s robot hand clean off itshinge. As Ironwood turns to glare at a cheeky Ruby, smirking as she lowersCrescent Rose, Oscar-bot suddenly strong arms Ironwood, suspending him off theground.
Now picture an unintentionally comical moment where Oscar-bot takes Ironwoodand literally tosses him off the bridge. Ironwood survives, of course, masterfullygrabbing onto a ledge with his human arm. However up on the bridge, this providesa chance for Ruby and Oscar-bot to have a small bonding moment. Oscar-botkneels before Ruby while she in turn slowly touches its face, sort of caressingits metallic cheek.
You know how in the Lost Fable,Jinn described Salem as being able to immediately recognize Ozma’s soul, even when in the body of another, based on their unbridledlove and devotion to one another?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“…Call itmagic or call it something stronger, but in that moment, the two knew exactlywho it was that stood before them…”
I think it would be touchinglysweet for the RosegardeningRosebuds to have this similar parallel to Fairytale in which Rubyis able to automatically recognize Oscar’s soul even when inside another body that isn’t his own. Not even science can mask the true strength of an unbreakable bond, especially when the love shared between is powerful enough to transcend it.
Tumblr media
So in the event that Ironwood does infact use Oscar’s soul to power an army of aura-infused machines, I’d like tobelieve that regardless, the growing connection Oscar shares with Ruby as partof their close friendship (and potential romance) will be what thwarts thisscheme. Ironwood would underestimate the bond these two smaller, more honestsouls share because when it comes to Ruby Rose, Oscar can’t be tamed. Orsomething like that.
I also really like the idea of Ruby notneeding Oscar-bot to confirm that he is Oscar. She already knew since shealready sensed that it’s him in there powering the machine. As the machinerests its head against her chest, Ruby gently whispers Oscar’s name, promptingit to look up for the two to lock eyes.
And in the same robotic voice frombefore, Oscar-bot replies, “…Ru…by.Ruby. Ru…by…protect Os…car. Oscar protect Ruby. Safe.”
Ruby then smiles through tears ofrelief as she hugs Oscar-bot.
My RosegardeningPinehead headcanon is that Oscar will admit to Ruby thatpart of the reason he enjoys her company is becauseshe makes him feel safe. I also like the additional detail of Rubyreminding Oscar a lot of the beloved relative he was very close to in his past. Before, this person was the one person in the world capable ofmaking Oscar feel most at ease since he trusted them the most. He also lovedthem more than anything in the world.
Oscar strikes me as the type where love and trust go hand in hand for him. I’d like to think Oscar isn’t the type totrust very easily but when he does, it paves the yellow brick road to straightinto his heart that leads the way to him learning to accept and love youunconditionally.
I also like to believe that Oscar isthe type where if you manage to successfully earn his trust and tame his heart, the adoration and devotion that comes with it is unyielding andeternal. Not to mention surprisingly playful and affectionate cause I’d like tothink Oscar becomes more relaxed, easy-going and open once you’ve fully gainedhis trust. Like this side of him is not for everyone. It’s only reserved forthe people he loves the most since he trusts them the most.
And this is how I believe Oscar will soon come to seeRuby. She is more than just his friend. She will be his closest confidant. Theone he trusts more than anyone else and the only one able to calm him down.Make him feel secure and at peace. The one he loves. That’s my hunch.
Tumblr media
I know you talked about this going badand Oscar snapping anon-chan. Does this headcanon kind of feed into that? I mean it kind ofdoes in a way---yes, no, kind of. At least, it could potentially lead into away where Oscar snaps on everyone through my Ironwood’s Immortal Legionconcept. It can also go a different route where Oscar doesn’t really snap butinside shows more strength and morality as a human being.
I’d love to go more into that further. However…I think I’m going to end things here and reserve that for its ownPinehead headcanon post. This response is already too long so I’ll reserve it’scontinuation for a new theory post since I really like this Oscar-bot and Immortal Legion idea going on here.
In the meantime, I hope I at leastanswered you as always anon-chan. To you and anyone who read through all of this, please let meknow what you guys think of the ideas I shared here. You folks always pick mybrain for my thoughts so I wouldn’t mind hearing your thoughts on my thoughts. So let me know, cool?

Hey little miss I have a question, when ever I go into to Oscar or rosegarden tag a lot of people talk about the merge with Oscar and Oz but I rewatched the 5th and 6th volume and I can’t find a single mention about it. And didn’t the god of light say that Oz would always have a person to talk and bounce ideas off of? And with the mental state both of them are in would Oz take over again and would Oscar let that happen. I also had a mini headcanon that Oscar will show Oz the person he used to be
Tumblr media
Hello Dark. You can say that the Merge was firstly mentioned back in V5 C3after Oz revealed himself to be paired with Oscar to the RNJR squad.
During that moment Ozpin, when Jaune questioned Oz on the nature of what he was, the old wizard described himself as a culmination of men who have sacrificed their lives for protecting human as designated to them by the Gods as part of their eternal curse for failing to stop Salem.
This was later confirmed and slightly retconned in V6, for lack of a better term. Not sure if to call it that. Funnily enough, when Oz told RNJR about his curse, he described it as it being inflicted on him for failing to stop Salem.
But as revealed in V6, the Gods never cursed Ozpin for failing to stop Salem. The reincarnation cycle was placed on Ozma because the God of Lightchose him to try and save what was left of humanity in the afterlife. The whole bit with Salem was basically Ozma’s own mistake since in fairness to the Brother Gods, the God of Light did warn him of the type of woman Salem had become during his absence. Light did more or less tell Ozma to not return to Salem but he did it anyways due to his ties to her. So I guess you can say that not only did Ozpin—Ozma lie
about his curse but he also withheld the truth about his original connection toSalem. I guess out of shame since his relationship with her did lead to possibly one of his biggest mistakes—the one he’s most ashamed off even till now.
Tumblr media
Anyways, where the Merge comes in is when Oz started describing his cycle to RNJR and Qrow. He said that with every rebirth, his soul is eventually merged with another and Oz is changed but his memories (all the memories he has culminated over the years throughout all of his lifetimes) remain with him after the change.
When Oz first talked about the Merge, he said ‘I am changed’. I as in him—Ozpin or whoever he is supposed to be since he is the current version of what I dubbed the Wizard—the persona representing all the Wizards combined into one soul.
Tumblr media
He never said ‘we are changed’ alluding to both himself and Oscar being affected by the Merge. Oscar was never ever mentioned as part of the Merge prcoess. It was always Oz destined to change with it.
But I think where and why fans and RWBY theorists started to get the impression about Oscar possibly losing himself to the Merge was the whole call back to the Man with Two Souls.
Remember back in V1, when Ruby asked Blake about the story of the Man with Two Souls, she said it was basically two souls sharing one body and fighting each other for control. This statement was then brought to life between V5 and V6 where on two occasions; we saw Oz and Oscar fight each other for control of the body.
Tumblr media
We saw Oz pilfer control from Oscar during the Hazel  fight and we even saw Oscar literally fight to restrain Ozpin when he was plotting to, I assume, forcefully take the Relic of Knowledge away from Ruby, possibly harming her in the process. Why else would Oscar make an attempt to mentallyrestrain Oz in such an intense manner if he didn’t sense that his desperate intentions might harm Ruby? At least, that’s my assumption.
Tumblr media
I’ve been hearing talk about the Merging of the Two Souls as early as V5 ever since it was canonically confirmed that Oz and Oscar could switch control of Oscar’s body. But in the past, the common assumption of the Merge was that Oz would ultimately fade away and become a part of Oscar leaving him to carry on the mantle of Wizard with all of his memories and abilities at his behest.
I myself used to share a similar headcanon of the Merge leading to Oscar and Ozpin becoming one mind with their new combined persona being a perfect fusion of either soul but with Oscar, as the current incarnation of the Wizard as the more dominant personality, just with quirks and mannerisms inherited from Ozpin passed down from their first life as Ozma.
Even now, I’m still kind of holding onto that headcanon. It’s just that I’ve also gone on to embellish this Pinhead headcanon of mine with the additional titbit of Oscar being revealed as the rightful true reincarnation of Ozma as the embodiment of his original form that he never got back reborn in Modern Remnant.
Tumblr media
I personally have never liked any of the theories that described Ozpin completely taking over Oscar’s body with Oscar disappearing. As a matter of fact, the more I pondered on it the more I realized that it wouldn’t make sense for Ozpin to take over Oscar’s body.
From a writing standpoint, it’s nonsensical to me because then I’d have to ask why would the CRWBY Writers go through the hassle of creating an entirely new character with his own individual personality and backstory (that many Pineheads are still waiting for them to dive into) just for the sake of having him be replaced by a character you made the choice to kill off.
If the CRWBY Writers honestly wanted to make a child version of the original Ozpin, they should have just have him come back as a young boy but still be the same character instead of being a different person. That’s what some fans keep forgetting.
Oscar is his own person.
Or at least he’s supposed to be. So looking at that, I’m going to assume that it’s not Miles and Kerry’s intention to get rid of Oscar. They already killed off Ozpin.Essentially the character of Ozpin is technically dead. His sole purpose now isto guide his next successor who is Oscar Pine.
Oscar is destined to take Ozpin’s place in this war against Salem. He is destined for greatness. And because of this, I don’t think Oscar is going to disappear.
Tumblr media
This is why I love my Pinehead headcanon of Oscar being the true Ozma. The way how I see it, when Ozma was reincarnated, he never regained his original body. His cycle involved ONLY his soul being paired with the souls of others, sharing their bodies instead until eventually whoever that person was, Ozma becomes a part of him and so the cycle follows.
Tumblr media
This is why I also have a small peeve about fans treating Ozpin or any of the Wizards for that matter as Ozma and Ozma alone. If Oscar is his own person then so were the others.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Technically it isn’t just Ozma in there. It’s all of them. All the souls together to become one soul that embodies them all.
The way how I’m looking at the Wizards and the way in which their cycle works now, it’s no different than what happens when you update or upgrade a piece of software. You have the first version that you get to use and familiarize yourself with but when it’s time to change to the new update, you get the newer version with all the fancy perks that come with it but you still get to retain the original settings left behind by the previous version. And in some cases, the new version is generally no different from the old one.
It’s still the same old interface you’re accustomed to just more fully functional. This is how I see the Merge in a way. I don’t see it killing off Oscar. I see the Merge making Oscar whole. This ties into my belief that Oscar is Ozma’s original body reborn in Modern Remnant. My theory is that Oscar is meant to be the end. In V6, Oscar asked Ruby if he was just going to be another one of Ozma’s lives.
Tumblr media
“…I’m just gonna be another one of his lives, aren’t I?”
That quote still rings in my head till now. I don’t think this will be Oscar’s fate. I refuse to believe it, as a matter of fact. This squiggle meister’s stance is that Oscar is meant to be the last life. The last in the cycle. And it is for this reason why I like the sound of Ozma’s Cycle ending where it all began. The Wizard ofLight lineage started with Ozma so for me, it would be more fitting it ended with him as well.
Tumblr media
I like the sound of Oscar being revealed as Ozma—the real Ozma or…at least the other half of him the Gods never permitted him to get back when this all started. I like the idea of Oscar being Ozma’s original self—his former body, now given new life in a new time in Remnant’s history.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I like this concept better than any other Pinehead headcanon I’ve seen and shared myself since I like the thought of here we have Oscar being concerned that he’s about to lose his entire life to the burdens and responsibilities of this person (i.e. Ozma) when in actuality he isn’t going to lose himself. He’d be made whole again.
Tumblr media
My stance is that the Merge is meant to reunite the two halves ofOzma—the current version of his soul (i.e. Ozpin) and the current version of his original body (i.e. Oscar) and make him complete again, thus fully reviving Ozma as Oscar since the two are one and the same person.
Tumblr media
And from there, knowing the truth of who he is truly is, Oscar can then make the conscious choice of his own accord to be whoever he wants to be moving forward. He can be his first self as Ozma or his new self as Oscar. It’s his choice to make this time so therefore, he chooses to remain as Oscar whilepromising to stop Salem once and for all, not just for humanity but for the sakeof the men who gave their lives for his mistakes.
Oscar would fight to honour his fellow Wizard brothers and ensure that his last life as Oscar is indeed his last so that the cycle can finally stop and his brothers can be allowed to rest in peace (or like Ozma, gain a second chance at life and be reborn in Modern Remnant too according to a cool theory by @miki-13).
Oscar won’t make the same detrimental mistake twice over. That’s my theory as far as the Merge is concerned and by golly, I’m sticking with it firmly till theCRWBY Writers tell me otherwise even if I’m the cheese that stands alone in support of this Pinehead headcanon.
Tumblr media
There is definitely something unique about Oscar that sets him apart from his past incarnates. Seriously, how can folks believe that Oscar’s experience with the Merge is going to be the same as his predecessors when all aspects point to him being different.
Even the nature of how Oz reincarnated into Oscar seemed different. If you were to compare Oscar to all the past Wizards, you’d clearly see one key differentiating factor about him. He is by far the youngest of Ozma’s successors. While all the other Wizards have been adult men, possibly even middle-aged to elderly men, Oscar is a teenager. He’s still just a boy—a child on the cusp of manhood.
Tumblr media
That’s one fact. The other one is how everyone kept acting so surprised about Ozpin being reincarnated so soon. As if there is meant to be some kind of huge time gap between when one wizard dies and his soul is reincarnated in a new body.
My fan theory is that there is a gap of at least 50 years or more between eachWizard rebirth. Reason being is when the God of Light first met with Ozma in the Realm Between Realms, he told him that Remnant was gone but in time humanity would soon walk the Earth again. So when Light spoke to Ozma, this was after all of mankind had been killed off except for Salem.
But when Ozma was first reincarnated as Diggs, humanity was already back in full swing. Civilizations were already constructed.
Tumblr media
So I’d like to think that Ozma was first brought back a good 50 odd years or more into the future when Remnant was already restored and since then, every time Ozma dies, he comes back in a new time period in Remnant’s history—a solid half a century or more in the future. Possibly. That’s my theory.
Tumblr media
This is what makes Oscar’s predicament so unique. I’d like to believe that Oscar is the first time Oz has ever reincarnated so prematurely and I’m hoping that the series either confirms this or not. At least touch more on it.
This is why Atlas is the perfect setting to delve into the whole Ozma Cycle and the nature of the Wizard’s Soul. Once upon a time I wrote a Pinehead headcanon ( in the form of my longest RWBY Musing ever) about Ironwood proposing to Oscar to use Atlas’ aura experimental technology to possibly separate him and Ozpin’s souls. Of course this idea fails and even leads to a subplot where Ironwood  tricks and double crosses Oscar, forcing him to undergo the experiment against his will, revealing that it was never meant to help Oscar but control him and the Ozma Cycle in general. This makes me wonder if Ozpin and the nature of the Man with Two Souls was what sparked Ironwood’s innovation to study aura in the first place. It wouldn’t surprise me if it was.
Tumblr media
Although an old theory, this is still an idea I wish for the show to delve into in thecanon, possibly for V7 as part of Oscar’s side of things.
If Atlas has the technology to study aura then I can see Oscar volunteering himself to become a guinea pig test subject for Ironwood to study his soul. This could prompt Ironwood to revisit some of his old theories on aura and study how the soul works through Oscar. And for Oscar himself, he would be looking to Ironwood as a beacon in the night, seeing him as his one and only chance at freeing him of his impending fate. Even if it’s just a small possibility.
Tumblr media
In Oscar’s eyes, perhaps Ironwood might be smart enough to figure out a way to actually stop the Merge from happening. Oh! I can even picture a case where Ironwood probably wanted to experiment on Ozpin in the past; invited him to become a test subject however Ozpin always refused. Thus, for the sake of their long-standing friendship, Ironwood never pushed the idea with Oz again since a) he respected Ozpin and b) he knew fully well he could never ever get Oz to bend to his whim so easily.
However…Oscar isn’t Ozpin. He’s an impressionable fourteen-year-old boy who’s been left without Ozpin’s proper guidance who Ironwood might find easier to twist at the arm.
Especially if he paints it in a way that more appeals to the young farm boy’s favour and doesn’t necessarily tell him the true intent of his actions. So basically picture Ironwood emotionally manipulating Oscar into undergoing his aura experiments.
Tumblr media
Heck I can even picture this being another issue that forces the two souls to fight again with Oz, sensing what Ironwood is trying to do with Oscar, trying to warn him but Oscar refuses to listen to Ozpin since…well…
What if…once our heroes have settled down in Atlas Kingdom, Oscar tries reaching out to Oz.
But even though Oz helped him out in the plane, he still refuses to meet Oscar half way for them to talk and it becomes a frustrating thing where Oscar feels abandoned by Oz. This leaves Ironwood to come swooping in to easily fill that whole role of mentor and guide to Oscar left behind by Ozpin that he was supposed to fulfil and Oscar grows close to Ironwood—looking up to him. Trusting him.
Tumblr media
Possibly even seeing him as a dad figure. Maybe Ironwood might remind Oscar of one of his parents or parental figures. However Ironwood is only manipulating Oscar to get him to sign off on undergoing his aura experiments. Something he knew Oz didn’t approve of but he tries to make it happen anyways through Oscar. I mean, it wouldn’t be the first time Ironwood went behind Ozpin’s back to get what he wants, right?
Tumblr media
But Oscar doesn’t quite catch o to Ironwood’s intentions but Oz does and he immediately tries to pull reigns on him. Even go so far as to probably pull the same stunt he did at Haven.
However by the time Oz tries this again, Oscar is already mentally strong enough to resist him from forcefully relinquishing control. Let’s just say that Oscar becomes a bit resentful towards Oz for leaving him (and everyone else) behind the way he did and it basically becomes this whole thing where Ironwood drives a wedge between the two souls and uses that to his advantage to get what he ultimately wants.
Perhaps….Ironwood might even invent and implant a sort of chip device on Oscar—like a small doohickey that fits perfectly on his neck that he tells him has a function to suppress the influence of Ozpin’s soul whenever Oscar fears he might try to forcefully take control.
So whenever Oscar felt Ozpin trying to take control, he could mentally tap into the device and use it to prevent this from happening. Of course, the device has a secret secondary function that would instantly turn Oscar into a puppet under Ironwoods command when necessary but…I’ll stop this headcanon right here.
I know this is making Ironwood out to be the bad guy and it’s sad since I kind of like General Dimples. Nonetheless, given the kind of metallic grey character Ironwood is, I think this can be a possibility for his side of the story in Atlas. But we’ll see what the Writers have in store for us with him.
Tumblr media
Getting back on track with the Merge, I believe I’ve pretty much summed up all that I had to say on that. Hopefully I was able to answer your in some shape or form. Emphasis on hopefully.
As for your mini headcanon—funny enough it reminds me of another old Pinehead theory I shared in a musing where Oscar would deep dive into his mind to bring Ozpin back. In V6, Oscar described Oz locking himself away deep inside his head. That being said, for V7, I was hoping us Pineheads could get a small subplot involving Oscar possibly entering a deep sleep, going on a journey inside of his mind to find Oz and bring him back. I called it ‘Oscar’s Journey to Oz’. Get it.
Tumblr media
Just as how Dorothy Gale went on a journey to the Emerald City to find the Wizard in hopes of him possibly sending her back home to Kansas, I figured the CRWBY Writers could do something like that with Oscar where he must go on a journey inside of his own mind to reconnect with the soul of the old wizard locked away inside him.
In one version of this headcanon, I envisioned Oscar reliving the most important memories of some of the previous Wizards leading up to Ozpin’s and in Ozpin’s memory, it’s the nigh he was fell in combat with Cinder and was left for dead before connecting with Oscar.
In the next version of the Oscar’s Journey to Oz headcanon—my favourite of the two— it was Oscar reliving his most cherished memories from his past to current day; meeting the souls of some of the other Wizards (like Diggs, Henkle and Norman for example) who arrived to help him on his journey to finding Oz.
Since viewers never got to see more of Oscar’s past, I figured this could’ve been a neat way to see what Oscar’s backstory was like through his eyes by reliving his past with him in his mind. That’s the concept I had.
But regarding of either version of this theory, it concluded the same way with Oscar finding Oz locked behind a memory that belonged to him—a key defining memory in Oscar’s life that was so painful to him that he repressed it, burying it deep within his mind.
Tumblr media
It’s the memory of the day Oscar lost his family explaining how he came to stay with his aunt and it is this memory that Oscar must face yet again in order to find Oz; dealing with the grief he forced himself to ignore before.
I’d like to think that Oz isn’t the only one who chose to hide the painful memories of his past. I’d like to think Oscar has done this too with his own past with his family and it’s something he and Oz can relate to.
It’s also a nice way for me to justify why I had Oz hide behind Oscar’s most painful memory. You could say It’s a place where the Wizard ironically found himself most at home and it’s also a place he figured Oscar would never find him.
By Ozpin’s impression, he figured Oscar wouldn’t face this pain. But to Ozpin’s surprise, Oscar would face this pain. He’d relive one of the most traumatizing memories for him because he was determined to find him.
And once Oscar finds Oz, the two souls sit and have a nice long chat that finally builds more upon their growing dynamic and Oscar as a person. His own person.
Since RWBY has a habit of having young children impart wisdom on adults, I’d love to see Oscar council Ozpin. Show the old soul that despite everything that’s happened and despite everything he’s learnt about his past, Oscar understands where Oz and Ozma were coming from and why he made the choice to do things the way he did.
I don’t wish for Oscar to scold Ozpin for his and the others’ past mistakes but extend him an olive branch—not one of compromise. But one that clearly says ‘I understand’ and ‘It’s not your fault’.
Tumblr media
It’s a feat where Oscar shows Oz who he’s supposed to be, as you put it. This then then ends with Oscar taking Ozpin’s hand and becoming the guiding light that takes the two of them home so that Oz may reconcile with everyone else who were waiting on the other side for Oscar to regain consciousness.
Then, with Ozpin back, through Oscar’s guidance, he aids everyone—the group as well as Oz, towards the path of forgiveness on both sides. It’s not Oz apologizing for his actions for the billionth time while the JNR_QROWBY get off scotch free for what they did too.
Tumblr media
It’s everyone apologizing and coming clean for the mistakes they made. A promise for a new leaf involving no more lies. No more half-truths. A promise for a clean slate for all including Ozpin. And Oscar is the instigator in all of it as the glue that helped mend the bonds between the team and Ozpin when it was needed to be done. Thus officially solidifying Oscar as a prominent and important member of the hero team in a much more meaningful and convincing way than what was done in V6.
Tumblr media
At least, that’s how I saw it. Not sure if this also ties into your theory too. Hopefully you can let me know. For now, I think I’ve jibberjabbed long enough. Believe it or not, I had more to say but I think I’ll spare you more paragraphs of reading through my long response.
In the meantime, thank you for the question and I hope to hear your thoughts on my thoughts and theories shared here.

Pinehead Headcanons: Oscar is the One True Ozma
Tumblr media
If you’ve been following my Pinehead Headcanons then most of you might already know how much this squiggle meister is an advocate for the Oscar is the One True Ozma Pinehead theory.
I’ve latched onto this theory passionately because in my head, it’s the outcome that sounds the most favourable to me right now as opposed to the other side where most FNDM fam members believe Oscar to either be completely erased by the Merge becoming a clone of Ozpin with no memory of his old self (the common bad ending to the Man with Two Souls story) or just remains as his original self but with Ozpin’s memories (the classic good ending)
In the past, I used to think that the Merge meant Oscar and Ozpin becoming a perfect fusion of themselves with the new Wizard persona retaining elements of both souls. He would have Ozpin’s memories but still be very much the Oscar Pine know and love at his core.
Tumblr media
But ever since I saw the Lost Fable and learnt of the original Ozma, I’ve fallen hard for the concept of Oscar being the other half of Ozma---the reincarnation of his original body that he never regained after the God of Light first resurrected his soul into the body of Diggs.
Tumblr media
Although Ozma had lived countless of lifetimes paired to the bodies of other men, the noteworthy fact still remains that the God of Light never granted him back his original body. Here pegs the important question. If only Ozma’s soul was brought back then what happened to his original body. His first form.
This is why I love the concept of Oscar being that original form. Despite what other fans might think, there have been one or two tell-tale signs sprinkled throughout Oscar’s side of the story that have indicated, to me at least, that he is meant to be different than all the past Wizards of Light.
Seriously? How it is that folks can still think that Oscar is going to turn up just like all the other past Wizards when the narrative itself has emphasized that Oscar is meant to be his own person. He’s meant to be different. At first I pegged this meant that Oscar was going to be the Last Life. The last reincarnation. I still stand by that hunch that Oscar is the one meant to end the cycle. But now I’ve taken it a step further.
Oscar is meant to be the last life because unlike his predecessors, who each had their bodies paired with Ozma’s soul, Oscar Pine is essentially Ozma’s original body---just reborn in Modern Remnant currently living as a 14-year-old boy. The Merge isn’t meant to erase Oscar. If what I’m saying about Oscar being the incarnation of Ozma’s first form is proven true then it would mean that the Merge will be reuniting Ozma’s original soul with his original body.
If Ozpin represents Ozma’s soul or at least the current version of Ozma’s soul while Oscar represents the current version of Ozma’s original body; then by my theories, the Merge is actually a good thing. It’s the phenomenon that will make Ozma whole again as he is reunited both body and soul.
When you look at it this way, neither Ozma’s soul nor his body are the same anymore. Ozma’s soul isn’t the same because for centuries he’s been paired with countless men whose memories have now become a part of his. And Ozma’s body isn’t the same anymore either since he’s presently the14-year-old Oscar Pine.
Therefore, if Ozma isn’t the same man he used to be---body and soul then therefore he should be left to choose the life he wants to live from henceforth, right? After the Merge is complete, Ozma---Oscar will be free to live as whoever he wants. Now that he’s been made whole again, Oscar as Ozma can chose to be who he wants to be. He can chose to be Oscar Pine for the people who know and love him as Oscar Pine. I’ll come back to this point later.
Another reason why I love the ‘Oscar is One True Ozma’ Pinehead Headcanon is for the parallel between the pairings of Fairy-tale (Salem and Ozma) and Rosegarden (Ruby and Oscar).
In the past, Ozma fell in love with Salem who ultimately became a silver-haired, red eyed witch corrupted by the Power of Darkness hell-bent on humanity's destruction.

However in present day, Oscar is destined to fall in love with Ruby Rose, a red-haired, Silver Eyed huntress empowered with the Power of Light fighting towards humanity's salvation.

See where I’m going with this? When I look at it like that, this just makes me believe more in the RoseGarden love story being told because of this very strong comparison. I didn’t even realize how much Salem and Ruby parallel each other until now.
Even though Salem's hair could technically be considered more white than silver while Ruby's hair is more of a blend of black and red; nonetheless, that still leaves the strong comparison between these two ladies especially when you put them up side by side as the love interests of Ozma and Oscar respectively.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This point only serves to further drive my headcanon of Oscar Pine being revealed as the resurrection of Ozma's original body and his last life. Still makes me believe strongly that the Merge is meant to make Oscar remember that he is Ozma while making him whole again.
And once Oscar realizes who he truly is, he'll be left with a new choice---to decide whether to continue living as his old self (Ozma) or live as his new self (Oscar). And for the people who love him as Oscar, Oscar will chose to be Oscar. That’s my hunch and I’m sticking with it.
I know I’ve voiced this hunch of mine a few times before however I really wished to drive it home with the point about Salem and Ruby. The more I expand on this headcanon, the more I love it especially with those strong parallels. Everyone’s got their own theories that they refused to let go of. This is one of mine. Anytime anyone asks me what I think of Oscar’s fate with the Merge, THIS is going to be my answer.
I never viewed the Merge as anything negative and this assumption further proves that. The Merge is meant to make Oscar whole again. That’s how I see it. With this thought in mind, I think I’ll end this post with a small RoseGarden-inspired Squiggle Script since it’s been a while.
RWBY Squiggle Script #020: Her Oscar
Picture it. Ruby reunites with Oscar after the Merge is complete. When Ruby finds him, she discovers the boy standing with his back turned; staring out into the distance. He doesn’t meet her gaze, not even as she approached this unknown soul cautiously, unclear of his identity. Who was he now? Was he the boy she knew as Oscar Pine or…someone else entirely that Ruby wouldn’t be able to recognize even with Oscar’s familiar face. Now Ruby stood directly behind him, gazing longingly at his back hoping for the person she prayed he still was.
Tumblr media
Ruby: *skeptically* Who…are you now? Are you…Oscar…or Ozpin? Or…is it Ozma? Are you Ozma?
The unknown soul only met Ruby’s question with one of his own.
Unknown Soul: *sombrely* Who do you see me as?
Ruby: I…
Ruby frowned; hands clenched against her beating chest.
Ruby: *ruefully* I…want Oscar. I want you to be Oscar. My Oscar.
Finally; the unknown soul turned around. Ruby gasped; eyes widening as she found herself before the smiling face of one Oscar Pine.
Oscar: *confidently* Then I’m Oscar.
Oscar then slowly cupped Ruby’s face tenderly; his hazel eyes radiant as he gazed deeply into her silver eyes with all the love he had in his heart for her. This gesture only made Ruby whimper under the warmth of his caress in a weak attempt to withhold the tears of unbridled joy that trickled down her blushing cheeks.
Oscar: *passionately* I am your Oscar.
Truth be told, Ruby didn’t need him to confirm this but she appreciated it all the same. The minute he turned to her, she already knew. As a being of a mystical lamp once quoted, call it magic or something much stronger, but in that moment Ruby Rose knew exactly who it was standing in front of her. He was the boy she loved and that was all that mattered as she closed the gap between them and kissed him; no longer shy to hide her love for him.
After all, he was hers. Now and forever more.
And scene.
This is how I would picture the CRWBY closing off Oscar’s arc while at the same time cementing RoseGarden as an endgame couple. But y’know, these are only my ideas.
As always, everything is up to the call of the CRWBY Writers. Whatever wild ride they have in store, especially for us Rosegardening Pineheads, I pray that it’s as charmingly cute as the bond between these two Rosebuds.
