How did Elesa get a Blitzle as a starter if she's from Sinnoh? (hang on this is ironic she could've learned about warden ingo in school back there)

Blitzle Elesa backstory under cut!

Blitzle was gifted to Elesa so she has an “easier time” integrating into Nimbasa by her well meaning dad. This is not the greatest move, since the two feel they are more obligated to stick together then, you know, actually choose each other. Blitzle’s meant to be a utility mon— he helps charge elesa’s hearing aid batteries and basically serves as an emotional support when things get rough. He’s… not the biggest fan. (I like to imagine Blitzle was originally part of a battle track, but his IVs aren’t the greatest so they shuffled him out. He’s a bit bitter about that.)

Inciting incident where they actually start taking the proper steps to becoming partners is when Elesa takes a tumble down a hill and Blitzle twists his foreleg going after her. (Local child eats shit! More at 11.)

They’re just kids, and they’re still learning.

(When Elesa decides to challenge the gyms, Blitzle’s so excited he accidentally trips their house’s circuits.)

I changed their fans to actual wings but also gave him a kind of retractable leaf blade that Shiftry can use to strike opponents. I still kept some of the wood elements just for fun.

I wanted to make it more frog-like (hence the webbed feet) and since it wanted to battle longer on land, I also took a page out of Machoke's Dex entry where its muscles are splitting open due to its strength.

I gave this boy some fins, a nice blue covering, and a tail for efficient for swimming. I also gave him some glowy spots for when he's under da water and needs to see

Here's Runerigus!

I took some creative liberties with this one, and eventually decided to have the spirit emerge from the slab as its the one in control now. Since the pattern on the slab is a snake creature, I made the spirit into a snake! I also made the pattern on the slab darker and less vibrant, since the spirit is out and doing his own thing, but if it were to go back to the slab, it would glow again

The boy himself, Hydrapple!

I was REALLY torn on whether or not to keep the Toxic Chain as its neck, but eventually decided to just have it as a scarf. As for the tail, I was inspired by the whole Garden of Eden thing and made the tail longer with a vine and an apple. The tail part was partly inspired by 9's creature the Seamstress (where it lures victims with the thing attached to its tail and then attacks with the rest of its body.)

Now for Ogerpon!

I just altered her cloak/arms thing to be Pecharunt/Dokutaro's colors and made her eyes soulless and empty. I also made her tip of hair/fur(?) down and limp as she's probably very upset to be controlled by the evil peach gremlin.

Teal Mask version:

Made the Teal Mask similar to Pecharunt/Dokutaro while having some differences.

I didn't do the other masks yet, as I still need to work on designs for them

Controversial opinion: i hate the design philosophy of modern starters

The way it changed from a cute little pet that you help train and grow into a powerful creature like you're a monster tamer, to a baby becoming a rebelious teenager turning into an rpg partner-like

They're not species part of an ecosystem anymore, they're characters with set personalities

I could never imagine an Inteleon, Incineroar or a Quaquaval asking for pets or roaming in the wil, hunting other pokemons. But i can perfectly see them as characters part of a dnd party

Ive grown accustomed to this change so its whatev to me atp but no Im also not much a fan of the newer design philosophy around starters. Cuz like from a storytelling/marketing perspective I get it. The personality and individuality given to the starters is a purposeful choice because, well, you arent going to see any other versions of that pokemon out 'n about unlike a poliwag or fletchling. Why not give it personality so it feels like a character alongside you.

My issue is that I'm already prone to anthropomorphizing verything, ESPECIALLY the lil guys i grow attached to on my play throughs. I come up with backstories and lore for them unrelated to the trainer and I inagine how they feel about things. And the more creature leaning a design is the more you can mix and match and imagine new personalities and characters with the same base animal (example: nuzrea). You cant do that to the same degree when they come preinstalled with a personality. Which personally makes me feel less connected to them but thats a me thing.

as promised, im going back to my usual hellsing shenanigans with some pokemon stuff. ive had this in my brain for months but have never gotten around to doing anything with it! my autistic ass has absorbed information about pokemon before i could have normal thought patterns, so hopefully my takes are at least a little satisfying. feel free to interact with ur own thoughts and suggestions!

i provided long explanations of each, but if you dont want to read all that just look at the pictures :P

note: these aren't definitive teams, just me throwing around ideas. don't take this as the holy grail of headcanons or anything.

seras victoria

boltund would be her first pokemon i think, her main partner from before her work with the organization. togetic is here because idk im a togetic 4lifer and im a kinnie ? it just really made sense to me, just vibes, plus i think she really needed a flying type. may become a togekiss later, that would be cute. umbreon is pip's eevee that she evolved, and blastoise is a gift from walter. i think she needs more red pokemon to match her color palette and vampire vibes so ill probably add to this!

alucard

alucard needs a legendary of course, so darkrai. i think they would be good friends, they give the same "misunderstood tortured soul" vibes. houndoom to represent baskerville, noivern to fit the vampire/bat aesthetic.

and an important distinction:

i think girlycard should have a hisuian sneasel. they're the same critter. two ancient beings.

im surprised with how much i struggled with this one. i feel like a fake fan. smh, anyways. sirfetch'd is perfect to me-even the unevolved farfetch'd is super fitting too-but i included the final form for this post. i wanted to stick with galar pokemon, but aegislash is literally a sword. cmon. stoutland is a recommendation from a friend that i 100% agree with. ive always associated her with the serperior line, so snivy was probably her starter. i think that'd be cute. im really open to suggestions on this one because i think she deserves more steel or normal types.

pip bernadotte

this is a big one! there were so many good options with pip... and i didnt even mean to color code it 😅 i wanted him to have an electric type to match seras (to add to the whole rivals-to-lovers aesthetic), so his main partner is raichu! it was between that or mudsdale, who i also really like (and is the only one on this team who cant be found in kalos, haha). i wanted him to have a bird (for the geese) so there's dodrio. scrafty and tauros just fit the vibe perfectly to me-they're sorta like honorable mentions. eevee is originally his but he eventually gives it to seras, who evolves it into umbreon. if pip would have kept it, i think it would have evolved into sylveon (the whole kalos thing).

walter c dornez

some interesting picks for walter. corvisquire is his main guy, his "angel of death", he's raised it from a rookidee since he was a kid. maybe it would evolve into corviknight when he becomes Dark Walter. not sure how that would work. i choose not to think about dark walter. bisharp is there for the steel typing vibes as well as the chess symbolism: it really hits right for me, with walter's arc being about how he's played as a "pawn", in a sort of way. also a nod to a very dear friend of mine who loves walter and the pawniard line respectively. :) now, why leavanny, you ask? it learns string shot, of course! also because id like to think he would raise a sewaddle in his old age to help him with things around the estate.

..aaand im out of room for images in the post! i'll make a part 2 with some bonus thoughts + the iscariot organization if i feel like it. bye for now!

since theres apparently so much acorn lore could you summarize just his key surface-level character details (personality, family, occupation, etc) before you get to all the heavier world building trauma shenanigans

Acorn is the member of a exploration team by the name of Team Seasky! The team is split into subteams, one being the Seedot Treehouse, made of entirely seedots +evos and fusions including seedot +evos.

Acorn, due to his once held role of being the Strongest Pokemon in the World of Coldour (the arpg he was in) he always appeared to be brave and confident…instead hes super anxious and nervous all the time but only shows this side to people in the seedot treehouse, having quite alot of fears and tramas from most of his original family being brutally murdered in front of him, the main fear mostly being of the sight of blood or gore (which is quite the bad thing when your always fighting a rival with a very heavy bloodthirst)

Acorn lived with his mom and uncle as a Seedot, Kaede and Micheal, and they lived next to another of Acorn’s uncles, Piccolo (can elaborate on them later) when a certain ‘trama’ event happened, causing Acorn to have to run away before being found by the leader of Team Seasky, Dew the Oshawatt (now a dewott)

Acorns entire team is like his family, which is…alot, but the main ones are Nuzbot, a robotic nuzleaf that Acorn thinks of as his brother, Oswald, Acorn’s aunt, Applesauce, one of acorns actual kids from when he was dating Tea the Tsareena. He’s currently married to MP3 the Meloetta, and they love eachother dearly hehehhebsksnjd they are the only couple ive drawn kissing minus a object oc couple i have.

at first he kinda forgot all his trama, like he tried to forget it, and did when he was first in Team Seasky, as all he wanted to do was become the strongest Pokemon in the team (which he very much is now) until he faced a Pokemon named Mother Nature, a brutal deerling/phantump fusion who killed everyone Acorn was traveling with (a scraggy, a snivy, and a pancham) which just reminded him of his trama 🎉🎉🎉

EDIT: OOOPS I FORGOT ABOUT BLADE ok Blade is the bloodthirsty guy, a Bisharp/Liepard fusion thats gone absolutely feral, really just out for revenge as Acorn’s uncle, Micheal, had defeated Blade’s mom, Darkmatter, in a battle long ago, so Blade killed him, acorns mom, cut off piccolos hand with piccolos own beloved surfboard, and almost killed acorn. Blade joined team seasky with the same intent to kill acorn, but having not been able to find the treehouse where they reside. He found it (recently) however, and brutally attacked and murdered Acorn’s best friend and co-leader of the group, Pest, a Bug-Type nuzleaf who secretly had a crush on Acorn

‘summarize it’ proceeds to write whole ass paragraphs summarizing just a little of his lore, anyways thanks about the design part! Hes based off the White Oak Tree, with mainly the color sceme and his leaf)

so i have dungeon lore ive been cooking for like 2 days, heres the unrefined result under the cut

not exactly sure what to warn about for this. if youre not a fan of things thats horror-ish adjacent i dont recommend looking below the cut

ok so in a really fucked up way, dungeons are technically alive in the way the mystery flesh pit is alive, but without those creatures that adapted to it and also a dungeon is not actually a giant creature and the meat isnt just on full display. ok. metaphor getting away from me

but yes, the further you dig into a dungeon, the more of its "skin" layer that you take away, and you can eventually reach the layer that is Actual Raw Meat

what is this Mystery Dungeon Meat? um. pokemon. im currently undecided if it also includes regular plants and animals, which by extension would include humans

if you stay for too long on a floor in a dungeon, there's an unseen force that ejects you from the dungeon and i think it becomes mission failed. here, it exists, but also you will Just Die instead. you become part of the dungeon itself

there's some safe pockets inside a dungeon that acts like any non-dungeon area, notably that the environment doesnt distort and change in front of your eyes

no real pokemon live inside dungeons. all of it is the dungeon's mimicries of the pokemon that once lived here. the longer you stay in a dungeon and/or the more a species of pokemon passes through it, the more it remembers and so will create false mimicries of that species that will beat you to death

the dungeon is aggressive like that due to the distortion of time. once peace is restored to the world, the dungeons slowly become habitable again, and are just places that change layout sometimes. its a very jarring change to all of the future gang who don't have amnesia. actually its a jarring chance for hero too, given that the only dungeons they knew of were like this

its a known tactic in the future to corner your enemies inside a dungeon until the unseen force just fucking kills them. grovyle and the other guys in the rebellion have had this happen to them before, but grovyle is the only one we know 100% lived through all attempts on his life bc...yeah. idk what happened to the rest of the rebellion

I grew up in the change from pixel art to 3D and have nostalgia for bw, xy AND sm. So i think because of that, I can see the good and bad in all the games but don't feel like any of them 'peaked''. They're all different games, so they are really hard to compare.

On a related note tho, its so sad to see so many fans praise one of my childhood games and not the others. And like, I get it because gen 5 is more similar to what they grew up with.....but every time I say I love xy, sm and even swsh i get told they are terrible and usually imply that I shouldnt like them :/

That only happens online, though......irl all the fans ive met, no matter their ages, just say something like 'i didnt like it, but i'm glad you did!'. Growing up in irl fan spaces and having to move online during corona was AN EXPERIENCE omg

There's usually a pattern you can notice with this stuff too. There are two lines that go up as time goes on. The one everyone talks about as being great and the newer one people hate on, usually to do with nostalgia of the now older original audience of the game.

My first Pokemon game was Colosseum, so gen 2/3 pokemon and gen 3 sound effects are pretty nostalgic to me.

Then I grew up mostly playing Diamond/Platinum/PMD2/Ranger2. I LOVED Team Galactic. I restarted the games so many times just so I could play through the story again with Cyrus and the Galactic Grunt theme. (I have also played through pmd2 many many times). I remember in my early teens seeing people on the internet hating on DPPt a lot and it making me sad. I recall someone saying that the gen 4 Pokemon sucked and I remember thinking "aw I guess they're right, some of these pokemon are really boring or annoying" and then I learned later that the pokemon I was thinking of were all gen 1 pokemon sdfkjsh

Gen 5 was hated when it first came out because it wasn't very fun for new players. I bet it also didn't help that the advertising for B2W2 was pretty poor and also came out after the 3DS did. I didn't even know it was a sequel until years later. That's why they went in the complete opposite direction for gen 6, and added gimmicks!

I have heard multiple people call the designs from gen 5 horrible over the years (And they're all wrong). Those comments are nowhere NEAR as frequent now, but they almost always come from people with nostalgia for the ones they grew up with.

I was 13 when BW first came out. I think I've only beaten it once, MAYBE twice. I'm not entirely sure why, because I was still replaying DPPt a lot. I would guess it's because the game is super linear in terms of gameplay and every playthrough will start exactly the same. You don't really get to make decisions on your team and how you play until later. Kid me loved the beginning of the main pokemon games the most because they were the most fun bits to play usually. So I suppose when you've already played it once, the beginning becomes quite boring.

And to compare. I did not like XY when it first came out. I was 16 and very against change and also my fav types at the time were dark and dragon so fairy type was the worst thing ever. I said previously that I really liked Team Galactic, so Team Flare was just a bootleg version of them to me. BUT I did immediately replay the game when I finished it. The character customisation plus the huge dex gives the game a lot of replayability. Because while I didn't like a lot about the game it was still fun to play, and it was the first time online was really accessible to me. I went back to 2013/2014 on my blog and there's SO much positivity about the game it's amazing! Over time people only remembered the bad parts and started hating it. I bet there'll be an influx of nostalgia for it before long. We can even see it in the hope people have for SV having Kalos DLC.

I need to replay sun/moon or play USUM because in my brain currently it sucks. But I'm very aware that that's because I only played it once, it's been years, and I played it when I started to grow out of Pokemon. So I'm excited to play it again now that I can appreciate it better. (Also the Sun/Moon anime is my fav so I have a lot of love for the characters now)

And finally, I loved SWSH! I didn't finish it the first time I tried to play it. Mostly because I spent HOURS trying to get a shiny hatenna before doing the fire gym skdfjhs. But then I SPED through the game with a bug type only run before Legends came out and I really enjoyed the story! One of those things that's more enjoyable if you're only focused on enjoying the story (and playing the game through with a joltik as the lead and trying to make sure they stay strong enough to beat the game with pfft) Also Leon was the first ever Champion I actually thought was cool and enjoyed seeing while playing the game (as ridiculous as his outfit is)

If I were to logically plot out the best for me based on how nostalgia works and taking into consideration that public opinion ABSOLUTELY influences me. I would have said BW was the best and XY(or SM) was the downfall, even though I had way more fun playing XY than BW as a kid

2• First time Izuku saw Shigaraki he actually had his costume on. Shigaraki sees this Spiked Leather bound kid crack his knuckles and grab a Red oak Bo Staff. Later along with the gun wounds he nurses a broken jaw and a new scar on his face from the nasty lil green punk.

3• Izuku has chains on his Hero outfit, They work extremely well as Capture Weapons.

4• Mr Compress and Twice are absolutely Terrified of Izuku after the Yakuza Arc

5• Dabi has a YouTube channel that actually pretty popular where he dances. Mina is a *Massive* Fan and Squealed when he showed up at dorms as the Midoriya Bodyguard

Borealll here, my fav au humm, i adore bav au but! my favorite to gnaw on is Black Nightshade au! so...

One, it is very clear that the second pair of arms Izuku posses is stapled into him, specially since the skin tone have a contrast between the arms and his own face.

Two, here, it is an unfortunate necessary step for the subject to die for the noumu process to take hold, and it is fortunate that the non-sentient don't remember such great pain.

Three, Bakugou still have gone overboard in the exercise of heroics, rumour has it there was even an expulsion involved.

Hi it’s Kiwi. Don’t have a favorite au really but the one I have the most brain worms about right now is the Pokémon au so let’s talk about that! (Also if you guess an OFA User’s Pokémon for their gym in the ask I’ll give 5 more headcanons)

1. Izuku and Bakugou’s starters are Larvesta and Buneary respectively. Larvesta was a gift from Izuku’s dad because Hisashi knows that Izuku will become an menace and get bored eventually if he gets a regular starter. Buneary was just found near Yagi’s lab trying to fight the man’s Pokemon and Bakugou pointed at it and says he wants that one as his starter and then caught it.

2. Aizawa is the Ghost Type Gym Leader. He does not advertise this and the only person who really knows this is Shinsou. Lovely surprise for the kids when he gets “kidnapped” by his Drifblim in the Ghost Type Gym.

3. Kaminari and Dabi had Rotom phones before said Rotom just turned into a regular on their team. Kaminari’s is called Nokia and both of them have the lovely habit of having 999 tabs open at all times and are dorks. Dabi’s is called Budget and blew up his phone when it decided they want to battle now and keeps on insulting Dabi and blowing up all phones he tries to get Budget in.

4. Hagakure, Ashido, and Aoyama are going on their Pokémon journey to complete Pokémon Contests across the region. They all give each other tips and try to be the best Contest Performer they can be.

5. The Elemental Plates to summon Arceus are with all the Gym Leaders of their respective type. They are all kept in separate places and more often than not the Gym Leaders don’t have it on them. This makes the fact that 7 gym leaders got kidnapped a lot more concerning.

anterior! umm as of right now my favorite au is either WitS(Wonder in the Stars) or TLVC(Tanuki Leaves and Violet Clouds) but ive already done one of these for WitS so TLVC it is!

-sako has this habit of spinning his cane around like one spins and umbrella, oboro thinks its really cool but sako barely realizes he's doing it

-oboro has two cats one orange cat named sushi and one black cat named coal, if coal and sako were to ever meet coal would try to lay on his cape no matter how many times sako tells her not to

-shouta and hizashi are sick and tired of hearing oboro go on and on about how cool he thinks tanuki is, but they let him because well its really really funny to see people who dont know about oboro's "obsession" with tanuki walk up to them and ask what they're talking about

-sako has shelves of glass jars that are just full of nomu's that he's marbled, the jars are like mason jars and thus aren't huge but hes got like multiple shevles of nomu jars, everyday he thinks about getting rid of them and every day he reminds himself that if he does they'll cause way more problems(he wants to get rid of them, so so badly)

-shouta has nightmares about oboro never being saved from that nomu lab

and this headcanon applies to sako in bout all our aus

-sako really likes oreos, he has like a pack of them in a marble to carry around so he can share with people he befriends

beat the scarlet/violet DLC! i havent done some of the bigger postgame stuff yet, but ive beaten the main story, which is really the important part

ill leave my longer thoughts under the read more to avoid spoilers

honestly, i really like how they handled this DLC. i think part of me likes kitakami as a place more, but this is also a really nice little spot. the terarium is a cool place, the pokemon in it are cool, etc.

what i REALLY liked was the story, as well. ive talked about this with a lot of other people, but SV's main theme seems to be getting yourself too lost in your own desires, so much so that you don't realize what happens, and this continues that. ambition is a great thing, but pushed too far, it can put others at risk. i think kieran's character is fantastic in this regard. it genuinely makes sense, and it's no surprise he ends up the way he does, and his desire to look up to the player becomes warped and corrupted because he wants to be better, he wants to achieve the dreams he's seeing the player reach, etc.

it's really interesting stuff. i really, REALLY like it, honestly, and i love how they handled briar in the way, too. briar literally gets so invested and excited about terastialization research that she's putting *three children* at risk. she actively realizes this and apologizes, and i like that they highlighted this. it's a neat theme, and i think the DLC tackles it really well

like the lore and extra stuff introduced is cool, but i feel like always, the character writing shines really well here. it's nice to see a bit of old kieran peek back out, him falling into old habits, but then we see him lose himself again as SOON as a sliver of a chance for him to be better than the MC arrives. for that, i'm a huge fan, i think they did a really good job there

also, big fan of BBQs. scratches that "i want to do PLA tasks forever" itch just enough to be satisfying

the one thing i wasn't a fan of was the battle difficulty, however. now, keep in mind, after asking my friends for some help i WAS able to adjust my team and have strategies to beat them and all that, but MAN, this is WAY too drastic of a leap in difficulty compared to base game, IMO. it'd be one thing if this was optional, but this is the main story.

now, keep in mind, i don't mind if they want to make pokemon games harder. i think it's a good thing. challenge and all that. but when base SV wasnt... ANYTHING like this, it is VERY jarring for them to like, legitimately start using competitive movesets and strategies and all that, without so much as a means to prepare you for it. i feel like there's gonna be a lot of people who just get hard walled by some of the battles, and idk how i really feel about it.

i AM glad this is here, but, i don't think it shouldve been the DEFAULT. some kind of toggle or even having these be post-game battles wouldve been great. but having it be the main difficulty scaling feels really bizarre in comparison to SV's base difficulty. hell, kitakami wasn't nearly as bad as this. it's a leap that is very, VERY drastic.

(and yeah, i did get fucked up bad early on, but keep in mind this is coming from someone who first tried kieran, who is the hardest battle in the DLC. so it's not like i was just playing poorly all the time)

also stellar as a tera type is kinda just whatever i feel. idk not really as interesting as it seemed to be. it's cool lore wise, but even then it's just like... eh, neat, i guess LOL

all in all, i really liked indigo disk. it wasn't the most mindblowing thing ever, and i feel like i MAYBE liked teal mask more, but honestly, it's not by a huge margin. it was pretty good, i had a good time. i'd say it won't win over anybody who already didnt like base SV, but it's worth if you like the base game because it improves on a lot. honestly, i think i like the DLC more than i do the base game, and i already liked SV, lmao
