One of our siblings was murdered recently, and you need to know about it.
TW // transphobia and violence against trans people
Brianna Ghey was a 16-year-old trans girl from Warrington, England. On Saturday, February 11th 2023, Brianna was found dead on the side of a park with multiple stab wounds. Two 15-year-olds have been taken into custody in connection with her murder.
Tumblr media
People in the Warrington area have alleged that Brianna was being bullied in school, and that neither the administration nor the police did anything.
Despite this, local police have said there is no evidence that the attack was hate-based and most news articles don't mention her status as a trans woman. This is deliberate. This is genocide by the hands of transphobes and TERFs.
Britain does not have gender self-identification (your legal gender being determined by how you identify and not any arbitrary medical requirements), meaning even in her death she will be deadnamed and misgendered on her death certificate.
She deserved so much better.
Mourn the dead, and fight like hell for the living.
EDIT: A verified GoFundMe has been set up for Brianna.

Seriously though, fuck terfs and radfems who double down on their bullshit and tell other trans people that they're "using the murder of a child" to "further their own agenda", like really Becky?
When we get mad at the abhorrent murder of our own community and try to spread awareness, you tell us that we're disgusting pigs twisting the death of someone into an argument for our benefit, (protecting trans people. How evil, right?) while you pretend to remain ignorant to the fact that YOUR IDEAOLOGY is KILLING CHILDREN ALL OVER THE WORLD.
Make no mistake, they know that accusing us of that makes no sense, but it's the only way for them to argue their way out of being part of a movement that tells others to kill trans people.
They are cowardly hypocrits who need to twist reality to justify their hatred. They will try to gaslight people and shift blame any way they can.

I'm not usually serious on my blog, but I need to vent.
With so many trans kids getting killed and the media being as dogshit as usual, it worries me about mine and others safety. I'm not openly trans. My town is pretty okay. pretty pro-LGBT...but nobody ever knows. Anyone could get murdered for being who they are. And that scares me. I'm scared to come out, scared to be open... Hell, I'm even scared to talk to my therapist about shit like this because I'm worried my father will somehow find out. I'm scared to do anything. Go out in public, walk to school, walk home, even go out with friends. And speaking of. My friends are all worried for their lives. All of us, thinking of ending it all. Right here, right now, on our own terms. All because of shitty people with shitty beliefs, all thinking that because we're different, we're a threat.
This shit has to stop
This isn't 'kids being kids'
This is murder.
We need to stop murdering people because they're different.
Justice for Nex Benedict.
Justice for Brianna Ghey.
Justice for Jacob Williamson
May they all rest in power. And may their murderers never know peace.

brianna ghey deserved so much better.
she was an anxious, vulnerable, girl transitioning and was scared of going outside battling social anxiety and she was maliciously taken by two vile waste of oxygen. the uk justice system is utter shite. 20+ years for the brutal murder of a young girl? they'll be in their mid 30s by the time parole is due and can be released for good behaviour if the parole board see fit or feel justice has been served. vile vile vile. makes me sick to my stomach.

Brianna Ghey was a sixteen-year-old trans girl who was killed in England last week. Two kids, male 15 and female 15, fatally stabbed her in a park and the police are claiming it wasn't a hate crime.
There are vigils being held across the country, as well as an amazing attempt to obtain her a posthumous GRC, as she can be remembered in death as she was. UK law says no one under the age of eighteen years may be granted a GRC and they are, unfortunately, sticking to that despite efforts made.
The police don't care, they are attempting to rule her death as the "murder of a young man". The Major Media and news outlets don't care, in fact they are openly misgendering and deadnaming her. They are choosing to print that she was "living as a girl" not the truth in that she was a girl.
Brianna's friends have said the police have done nothing to help the constant bullying she endured while she was alive.
(please inform me if any of this information is incorrect, thank you)

An incomplete list of Trans and gender nonconforming people murdered for existing in the 2020s
Here is the complete list of Trans people murdered in 2023, compiled by Transrespect versus Transphobia Worldwide (TvT).
2020 – Özge Bilir, aged 25, was a Dutch trans woman of Turkish descent living in Leidsche Rijn, Utrecht. She was stabbed to death by her ex-boyfriend.
2020 – Alexa Luciano Ruiz was fatally shot in Puerto Rico on 24 February, after an incident in a local restroom. Ms. Luciano was killed while the assailant men laughed.
2020 – Michelle Michellyn Ramos Vargas, a 33-year-old trans woman, was found dead on an isolated road after being shot multiple times on 30 September in San Germán, Puerto Rico. She worked as a bartender and was studying to become a nurse.
2020 – Selena Reyes-Hernandez, 37, was fatally shot in Chicago, Illinois, on 31 May by a man she went home with, after telling him that she was transgender.
2020 – Brayla Stone, 17, was murdered in Arkansas in June 2020 by a man seeking to conceal his sexual relationship with her. The killer pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 50 years in prison.
2020 – Valera, a 46-year-old man, a janitor, was raped and killed on 10 February in Chelyabinsk, Russia, by his dorm roommates after they learned he was a transgender man.
2021 – Ebeng Mayor, a trans man from Batasan Hills, Philippines, was found raped, mutilated, and killed on 20 May 2021, after being missing for three days.
2022 – Briza Garces Florez, a 40-year-old Colombian trans sex worker from the Netherlands, was stabbed to death by her 32-year-old boyfriend.
2022 – Doski Azad, a 23-year-old Kurdish transgender woman, was murdered by her brother for being transgender.
2022 – Ariyanna Mitchell, a 17-year-old Black trans girl from Virginia, was shot and killed by 19-year-old Jimmy LeShawn Williams with an assault rifle, after he asked her if she was transgender, and she replied, "yes".
2022 - Cherry Bush, a homeless 48-year-old trans woman, was shot to death in Los Angeles.
2023 - Brianna Ghey was stabbed to death in Culcheth Linear Park on 11 February 2023.
2024 - Nex Benedict, a 16-year-old non-binary American student died one day after being assaulted in the girls' restroom.
Tumblr media
(This is Nex)
Their friends and mother say that they experienced bullying for more than a year, because of their gender identity, before the assault. The bullying got progressively worse after a bill was passed in Oklahoma to prohibit the use of non-binary gender markers on birth certificates. Public school students are legally required to use restrooms only according to the gender on their birth certificate.
Nex was assaulted in the restroom by three girls and beaten unconscious. Sue Benedict, Nex's mother, was called to school and she found Nex with bruises on their face and scratches on the back of their head. She was informed that they had been suspended for two weeks. Sue took them to a nearby hospital and called the Oklahoma police department.
Nex told the officer how they had heard the girls making comments about their group and how they had poured water on the girls which then led to the altercation. They then said that had been attacked and had blacked out on the floor. The officer told Sue that this could be considered "mutual" and if they were to press charges, Nex would be open to those same charges. She declined at the time. Nex were later discharged and reportedly went to bed with a sore head.
Tumblr media
(Nex with their cat)
The following day, on February 8, as they were preparing to travel with their mother for an appointment, Nex collapsed in the family's living room. Sue Benedict called 911, saying that Nex’s eyes had rolled back and they were struggling to breathe. Nex had stopped breathing by the time EMTs arrived. Nex was declared dead at the hospital that evening.
This is, by no means, a complete list. It does not even include a fraction of the murders of gender queer people in the 2020s, let alone the suicides, rapes, assaults, attempted murders, etc. It does not include the crimes against the rest of the LGBTQIA+ community.
Thank you for reading the whole thing.

Transphobia kills
This is the first time I'm going serious, but I feel like I need to do this.
In a world where acceptance should reign supreme, the stories of Nex Benedict, Brianna Ghey, and Jacob Williamson are a powerful reminder of the grim reality faced by many who dare to live as their true selves. Their lives, though cut short, carry a deep message that speaks to the fundamental right of every individual to be recognized, respected, and loved for who they are.
Nex Benedict, Brianna Ghey, and Jacob Williamson, like countless others, bravely embraced their true selves despite the societal pressures and prejudices that sought to constrain them. They stood tall in the face of adversity and defiantly challenged the narrow-mindedness and bigotry that infects our communities. Tragically, their journeys were cut short by transphobia - a force that continues to claim lives and shatter dreams.
Their stories are a powerful reminder that the fight for equality and acceptance is far from over. Transphobia, in all its forms, is a plague that not only threatens the lives of transgender, non-binary, and gender-nonconforming people, but also undermines the very foundation of our society. It fuels fear, division and injustice, creating barriers to understanding and compassion where empathy and solidarity should flourish.
We live in a world where celebrating authenticity in theory is often condemned in practice - a world where the mere act of being oneself can be met with hostility and violence. It's a sobering reality that demands our collective attention and action. We cannot afford to remain passive bystanders in the face of such injustice. The deaths of Nex Benedict, Brianna Ghey, and Jacob Williamson serve as a call to action - a call to dismantle the systemic inequalities and prejudices that continue to plague our society. It is up to each of us to challenge the status quo, to confront discrimination and hate wherever it manifests, and to create a world in which every individual can live freely and fully without fear of oppression or persecution.
Most importantly, we must never forget the lives and legacies of those lost to transphobia. We must honor their memory by continuing the work they started - by standing up for justice, equality and human rights for all. Nex Benedict, Brianna Ghey, and Jacob Williamson may no longer be with us, but their spirit lives on in the struggle for a more just and equitable world.
Transphobia kills, and that's not okay. But together, through our collective action and unwavering solidarity, we can strive to create a world where love prevails over hate, and where all people are free to live authentically, without fear or prejudice. This is the legacy we must honor. This is the future we must build.

An Update on Brianna Ghey
tw // extreme transphobia, hate crime, violent death, death of a child
Tumblr media
If you're unfamiliar with Brianna Ghey, you can read up on the story here or watch this overview. There's been multiple updates, and I wanted to let people know about the most important ones.
On February 4th 2024, the two originally unnamed teenagers— the 16-year-old boy now identified as Eddie Ratcliffe, and 16-year-old girl now identified as Scarlett Jenkinson —have been sentenced to life in prison for the fatal stabbing of Brianna (x).
On the day of her murder, February 11th 2023, Brianna took the No 28 bus at around 2pm to meet up with Jenkinson (who brought Ratcliffe along without Brianna's knowledge). The two led her to a path on Culcheth Linear Park, where she was stabbed to death with a hunting knife (x) that Ratcliffe provided. Although both parties would later blame the other in court, it's important to note that Ratcliffe was the only one with blood found on his clothes. Brianna was stabbed a total of 28 times in her head, neck, chest, and back (x). Not long after, Jenkinson posted this to her snapchat account.
Her murder was premeditated weeks in advance (x), with the pair plotting their attack against Brianna (x), who was anxious and rarely went out alone. They'd previously attempted to kill her before, although those plans ended up failing (x).
Prior to her murder, she'd sent a message to her mother saying "I'm on the bus by myself. I'm scared." To which her mother had replied that she was proud of her attempt at going out alone. Unfortunately, Brianna never got to read that text.
Thousands of text messages have leaked from the two killers, where Ratcliffe misgenders and demeans Brianna, and Jenkinson details her obsession with Brianna.
➡ When Jenkinson sent Ratcliffe some selfies of Brianna, he replied, "Is it a femboy or a tranny?"
➡ After Jenkinson expressed that she thought Brianna was prettier than her, Ratcliffe had said, "Prettier but it's a boy."
➡ Jenkinson had texted him on Whatsapp, "I'm obsessed over someone I know but don't have feelings for them... She's called Brianna... I don't know how to explain. She looks like a girl, she sounds like a girl, she's really pretty." To which Ratcliffe replied, "Tell me what you feel when you interact with it. I don't think you're necessarily in love but I think you're more curious and intrigued by its unnatural nature." (x)
➡ After their initial attempt to kill a different student failed, Jenkinson suggested that they stab Brianna instead. Ratcliffe agreed, saying "Yeah, it'll be easier and I want to see if it will scream like a man or girl."
➡ Jenkinson discussed wanting to take Brianna's "pretty" eyes as trophies, and Ratcliffe said "Really all I want to see is what size dick it had."
➡ During the trial, when asked by the prosecutor why he used the terms "it" instead of "she" for Brianna, he said that it was a "joke" and that he had picked it up from other people.
Despite all of this, Cheshire police are still adamant that Brianna's murder was not motivated by transphobia (x), because "...If it hadn't been Brianna, it would have been one of the other four children on that list." This is further corroborated by Detective Inspector Nigel Parr of Cheshire Constabulary, who led the investigation. Outside the court, he claimed that "this was a senseless murder committed by two teenagers who had an obsession with murder, whose only motivation in killing Brianna was to experience what this would be like." (x)
The headteacher of Birchwood Community High School has claimed that she spoke to Brianna's mom who "confirmed that Brianna was not bullied at Birchwood and always felt well supported by the school," and that Brianna's mother had given her permission to share that (x). This is despite multiple of Brianna's friends, and Brianna herself (x), saying the opposite (x).
The two killers are eligible for parole in 20 and 22 years. I can only hope they atone for the harm they've caused Brianna's family, the trans community, and everyone else affected.
I hope one day we can live in a world where being trans isn't a death sentence. Where major news outlets can report on trans victims with respect (x). Where anti-trans hatred spewed by TERFs and radfems, right wing politicians and conservative talk show hosts no longer hold such an influence in the world.
We will be able to live as ourselves one day. Without fear. I just wish Brianna could be here to see it.

listen, i know i dont post a lot of my own shit on here, mostly reblogs, but this is serious
THESE KIDS SHOULDNT BE FUCKING DYING BECAUSE OF BIGOTED PRICKS WHO WANT CONTROL
i mean Nex Benedict, he didnt deserve to be beaten and then die because of said injuries from being beaten. not at fucking ALL. this was a 16 year old non-binary 2-spirited kid, who was a product of multiple minorities. he was fucking bullied for a year, and is getting hated on IN HIS FUCKING DEATH for snapping back by pouring water on these girls? thats some fucking bullshit right there. he was only 16, he was a baby. he fucking loved mine craft, and his cats and shit. it could have been any one of us, and this poor angel died because some asshats decided they were better than him and beat him until he eventually died. and the adults involved with covering up his murder? absolutely disgusting pieces of shit for not helping him, calling an ambulance, calling the lgbtq disgusting (or whatever the fucking cunt said, I'm so angry i cant pay full attention). they are disgusting pieces of shit for letting this poor kiddo die. plus, ruling it as a suicide is BULLSHIT. it is SO FUCKING HARD to overdose on antidepressants, much less antihistamines
Nex, I am so so sorry that society, that your school, the government, I'm so sorry that they failed you
and kids like Brianna Ghey, i havent even fucking HEARD about her until tonight. these poor angels were fucking killed for being themselves, and their stories havent even been told.
i expect so so much fucking better from the non-binary and trans and gender fluid communities, hell, i expected more from everyone. as someone who thought they were trans, this could have been me. this could have been anyone from these communities, or any other fucking minority. speak up and fucking talk about these kids
finally, the Palestinian children. none of them fucking deserve to suffer, starve, be bombed, have to see their families die, have to eat animal food, have to live in fear. babies, unborn, newborn, and not even a year old. theyre dying because theyre premature, underweight, unhealthy, STARVING. kids are dying, toddlers who are the same as your own babies, theyre starving and getting bombed. that poor 5 year old who was murdered after having to watch the rest of her family die? that sweet girl didnt deserve that fate in any way, she was FUCKING FIVE YEARS OLD. israel is committing war crimes against these people who never deserved it. stand for these people, otherwise you are complacent in a genocide
IF YOU SUPPORT ANY OF THE PEOPLE WHO HAVE BEEN MURDERING THESE CHILDREN, GO THE FUCK AWAY YOU DISGUST ME

i dont even know how to hold space for this level of grief when it comes to Nex. i know they weren't the first, i know they won't be the last, i felt similarly after learning about brianna ghey. while it illicits no different level of anger, no different sadness, it feels personal in a way that's rare. its like when i learned about the boys that died from police brutality in my own city. nex looked like my friends. nex looked like me. i heard nex speak and i could see myself at the lunch table across from him. its one of those situations that hits so close to home it might as well have been in my house. i met two kids at a protest last year, two 16 year old trans mascs from south florida, and it was my first time interacting with a trans high schooler since graduating. when i met them i felt so protective and when they spoke at the protest i felt so proud. they were kids, they should've been at home, playing sports, doing homework, not hours away fighting for their lives just to watch their rights taken away right in front of them.
im sorry nex. im sorry brianna. im sorry kayak. im sorry remi. you deserve(d) better. i wish i could make it better. i won't ever forget you. i won't let the world forget you.

I made a rather reactionary post about white trans activists co-opting Black women's slogans this morning. After reading some rebuttal points by UK's Black activists since then, I've learned a lot better about claiming ownership over political movements. Also my saying "only the queer community has identity politics" is...objectively a ridiculous stance lol. I'm always about not letting conversations be driven purely by reactivity to radfems and the right-wing, but sometimes I do fall in soup myself.
There's so many interesting discourses I want to share, but because they involve Black intra community politics, I'm worried that it might harm their dialogues by taking them outside Black spaces. Otoh, the neoliberal and USAmerican exceptionalist influence on post Civil-Rights Black activism is problem that gets in the way of global coalition-building, and it's particularly a trap for non-Black people who want to be good allies.
I highly recommend you follow Chardine Taylor Stone on Twitter. She's someone who follows the solidarity and socialist coalition-building models of older Black activists, pushing back against neoliberal identity politics and gate-keeping.
