Nex Benedict was a non binary two spirited ingenious 16 year old who died on January 8th 2024 after them and their friend were attacked by three girls in the girls washroom the day prier to their death. Nex had been suspended for so called “fighting” in the washroom when In reality they were being bullied. on the 8th When Nex and their mother Sue Benedict were packing for an appointment Nex suddenly collapsed in there living room Sue their mother quickly called for help. By the time help came Nex was already dead. They were murdered and no one but their family and friends had done anything. When An Oklahoma, lawmaker Tom wood was talking about about the community he called the lgbtq2s+ filth following Nex death. what the fuck Tom wood you say want to protect us kids yet you allow a minor to die and to rub salt in the wound you called their community filth. this is mostly a rant that i just need to get off my chest

Trans women are censored, harassed and ignored, stalked, and another trans child has been murdered. its a bad time to be trans in many countries rn

If you think that those things dont go hand in hand then you are wrong. Ignoring a trans women when she reports harassment and stalking is how trans women get killed. when a trans man gets excluded from lgbt spaces bc he is transitioned and people think that men=bad, it leaves him without support if he is suicidal or being harassed. When a child is seen as something other than human because they are non binary, officials don't call an ambulance when they are injured and thats how kids die. What happened to Nex was murder.

The ceo isnt committing murder, but he is contributing to the culture that gets people killed and i hope he feels bad about it, especially since tumblr is the one place where a lot of trans people feel safe being themselves.

@photomatt when the statistics have the faces of your friends it is very hard to take you seriously when you have been so glib about the experiences of the trans women on this site. Trans women are some of the most brutalized and murdered people in the world so sorry if I find the car hammer explosion joke funny. Against @predstrogen you look pathetic. Why do our deaths need to be brutal to get justice?

It feels like any idea of justice for Nex Benedict was thrown out the second it was discovered he died of overdose, and not head trauma from being repeatly stomped to the floor. Like all of a sudden they were no longer the victim of an attack, but just another suicidal highschool student. There was nothing that could have been done. And nothing we can do.

a lot of people are using nex as a queer talking point without even mentioning they were choctaw and 2S. without even mentioning that this - harassment, assault, murder, disappearances, lies/indifference/denial about the circumstances of our death - is typical of the violence we face. not once have i seen non-native people address that we, as natives, face this same treatment within queer communities. that queer institutions use our land while declining to offer native-inclusive and -sensitive care. we suffer at the hands of white lgbt+ people just as much as we do at the hands of people outside the community.

nex is not your NB pariah. nex was a 2S, NB, choctaw child. thousands of native people go missing and are killed and no one cares. many are two-spirit. many are LGBTQIA+. many are "queer" in ways only defined and recognised by our closed cultures, that you may never hear of and may never understand.

if you are going to flock to nex, you are not going to take them from us post-mortem. they were choctaw. they were native. their tribal affiliation has already been falsely reported on. if you are talking about nex, you will talk about how unwelcoming and dangerous your communities are for us, too. you will talk about how natives face this violence constantly, everywhere. you will not remove nex from the context of them being choctaw, ever - or you won't say their name at all.
