Collector’s Edition
In which an egg collection is explained. A fic for the secret Santa prompt: “Bunny & Jack brotherly bonding.” Hope you like it!
read it on ao3
fic under cut
“Hey, Bunny, what’s up with the eggs?”
Bunny paused, looking up at Jack.
“The eggs?” He looked down at the one in his hand. “Really?”
“Oh no, I didn’t mean those ones. I meant the ones in that room with glass around them. It looks like a museum?” Bunny set the egg down, and it jumped and ran away.
“You mean my googie collection?”
“Collection?” Jack echoed. “You have a collection of eggs?” He smiled.
“Yeah,” Bunny said defensively, preparing for teasing. It never came. Jack grabbed Bunny’s arm and pulled him up.
“You are showing me that collection, Cottontail.” Bunny hesitated, looking at Jack. It was maybe one of the first times someone wanted him to show the collection. The others really didn’t understand, despite them wanting to, and Bunny tended not to ask to show them. But this was an invitation to explain. An invitation to share.
“You sure?” Bunny asked. Jack huffed and rolled his eyes.
“Sure about what? You like eggs. I want to know what those ones are.”
Bunny smiled.
“Alright, but don’t say I didn’t warn you if you start dozing off.”
“I’m sure it’s so boring,” Jack said, yawning and leaning on Bunny like he was falling asleep. “I’ll be out quicker with you than dreamsand.” He stretched his arms, mock yawning, and then stood up and grabbed Bunny’s arm and pulled.
“Come on!”
Bunny and Jack made their way through the warren, and Jack saw the room, grinned, and made a beeline for it. It was well taken care of, but the entrance had vines growing over it, almost like a curtain. Bunny made sure that his collection was tucked in a safe spot in the Warren, just in case of any trouble that may appear.
It was one of the few areas not disturbed by the nightmares that Easter. Bunny hid a grimace. He hadn’t remembered the collection until he started cleaning up and then ran into the room in a panic. He didn’t know why he cared so much for them, and it was enough that the thought of losing the googies made him feel so…scared.
Jack chuckled, already in the room.
“Is there a light in here? There was a light when I found it.”
Bunny snapped, and soft lights illuminated the room. Jack looked around, a bit dazed.
“Normal light would harm some of the older eggs,” Bunny explained. “The lights can be turned on manually, but I have a timer on them.”
“Why a timer?”
“Too much of this,” Bunny said, waving a paw at the light, “would damage them.” Jack nodded, and started observing an egg. Bunny felt tense. Why did he feel so tense? Jack scanned the tag on the display. His eyebrows crinkled and then he laughed.
“No way!” He exclaimed, turning to Bunny and pointing at the egg. “Dinosaur egg? It’s not even a fossil!”
“Yep,” Bunny said, a smug look making its way on his face. “It was the first one I got. That one is a Hadrosauridae egg.” Jack hummed and nodded.
“You collected it when it was born?”
“I collect any unfertilized eggs.”
“So, all of these aren’t fertilized?” Jack gestured to the rest of the room. Bunny hummed.
“It’s sure a fire-proof way to make sure none of them hatch and think you’re their parent.” Jack jabbed a finger into Bunny’s side, laughing. Bunny rolled his eyes as Jack formed a duck-shape with his hands and circled Bunny chanting, “Papa, Papa.”
“You’re impossible,” Bunny deadpanned. Jack’s smile changed into a silly and fond one.
“Yep!”
They made their way over to the more recent eggs. Jack stopped at one, staring at it curiously.
“Great Snow Goose of the Himalayas? I haven’t even heard of that one.” Bunny smiled at the egg. It was white, with fragile silver dots that sprinkled the egg. Jack held a hand up, nearly touching the glass.
“It’s bigger than my head.”
It had been a gift from Kathrine, as soon as Kailash started laying eggs of her own. Unfortunately, there was no father. With Kathrine doing her own thing, it meant that they didn’t get to see her often. It reminded him of the older eggs.
Maybe he was projecting a little too much into the eggs.
The sharp pain came with looking at all the eggs whose species were no longer walking this planet. They were extinct. Gone. Bunny managed to save an egg, but no hope that they would ever continue living.
A hand grabbed his own, Jack moving into his field of vision. He was frowning, concern written in his eyes.
“You okay there? You got a little spacey,” he said. Bunny nodded.
“Just thinking.” Jack hummed, letting go.
“The egg was a gift from a friend. She’s off having her own adventures these days, but it’s always good when she visits.” Jack nodded.
“So,” he said, “you didn’t answer my question.”
“What was it?”
“Why is it so big?”
“The wingspan of an adult is roughly 45 feet, they’re very big birds.” Jack whistled slowly.
“Now I’m surprised it’s not bigger.”
Bunny laughed, and Jack smiled. He spied a little egg walking around and picked it up, examining the purple and pink sparkly shell.
“What are these? They come from the plants, I’m not sure if these can even classify as eggs.”
“Oi, it’s an egg.” Jack hummed, putting the egg on his head and walking forward, arms out as if he were balancing.
“What kind? I don’t know any eggs that can sprout legs.” Bunny walked up to Jack, watching his movements.
He didn’t need to pretend to balance. It was a ploy to get him to get distracted from the thoughts Bunny was having.
“It’s a plant from my home, you larrikin.” Jack hummed, grinning as he looked up at the egg. It sat in Jack's hair, clearly not getting that Jack wasn’t going to drop it anytime soon.
Bunny snatched it, looking it over.
“Does it have a yolk? What would it hatch into?”
“It’s chocolate,” Bunny shrugged. “Magic. They tend to just… either go rotten or turn into chocolate all together. The rotten ones usually start off weird, I don’t paint them.”
Jack hummed, looking around.
“So many eggs,” he said. Bunny nodded. Jack turned.
“I still can’t believe you have dinosaurs.” Bunny shrugged.
“It’s a complete collection, so far.”
Jack laughed, hooking his arm with Bunny’s.
“Let’s go,” he said. “North started a prank war and I think I can use some rotten eggs.”

He comes and goes as he always does, but early in the morning Nightlight slips through the window just as the sun is beginning to come up over the great trees of Santoff Claussen. He takes a moment to adjust her quilt to cover her better and then perches on the foot of his Katherine's bed. Just to watch her; he likes to see how her chest rises and falls as she breathes, and how her eyelashes brush her cheeks in her sleep.
As the sun rose above Big Root, Katherine slowly opened her eyes; being awoken by the sun rays that tickled her nose. She releases a big yawn and rubbed her still sleepy eyes to get rid of any remaining sleepy sand. Kailash was already wide awake too. The half grown snow goose released a happy honk, seeing Nightlight. Katherine finally heaved herself up from the mushy pillow she slept on that was filled with Kailash’s softest feathers and stretched her arms, then smiled at Nightlight. “Good Morning, Nightlight. What a pleasant surprise seeing you this early in my chambers. I hope everything is alright, is it?” the girl questioned.

Arendelle Adventures Chapter 20 - Goose
Read on AO3: https://archiveofourown.org/works/35770243/chapters/131377150
Series Summary: The adventures and mishaps of the princesses of Arendelle: Elsa and Anna. one-shots. Chapter Summary: Anna and her goslings. Part 2/2.
Anna woke up to someone clearing their throat at the end of her bed. The princess groaned and rolled over, bringing her pillow over her head to block out the noise. Only when she heard someone say her name, did she look up. Her eyes flickered open and quickly fell on her parents. Her father had his arms crossed over his chest, though her mother held a small ball of yellow fluff in her hands. Kailash.
Anna bolted upright, her cheeks flaming. She had done so well hiding them all yesterday- it was a little sad that she had been found out so soon.
"H-hi Mama, Papa." Anna smiled weakly, as if ignoring the gosling in her mother's palms would make is disappear- or at least prevent her from seeing it. "How are you two this morning?" The princess asked, smiling up at her parents. They didn't smile back.
"Anna," The Queen said calmly. "What is this?"
The princess let her eyes fall down to Kailash, whom was happily sleeping in the Queen's careful hands. "Uh . . ." Anna mumbled, bringing her eyes up to her parents once again. "A goose?" She shrugged.
"And what is it doing here?" The King asked; his tone not as harsh as Anna would have expected it to be. Her eyes danced from her father's, to her mother's, and then to Kailash's little body. She knew very well that she wasn't getting out of this one- no matter how hard she tried. The young girl sucked in a breath.
"IfoundherandIcouldn'tfindhermothersoIkindoftookherinbecauseIdidn'twanttoleaveheraloneandpleasedon'tmakemegiveherback." Ann rushed, starring at her blanket as she spoke.
"What?" The King and Queen asked almost in unison, narrowing their confused eyes at their youngest daughter. Anna sighed, and tucked her platinum strand of hair behind her ear.
"I found her- Kailash-" She nodded at the gosling. "-and I didn't want to leave her all alone. I couldn't see her Mama anywhere. They're babies, I couldn't just leave them. I thought that maybe I would take care of them- at least until the mother goose comes back."
The King shook his head and closed his eyes. "Anna-"
"What do you mean by them?" The Queen interrupted, raising a dark eyebrow at her daughter. Anna's cheeks flamed, and once again she tucked a strand of hair behind her ear. The King had given up on whatever he had been planning to say, and glanced at the princess. Obviously, he was interested in the answer too. Darn.
"Well, uh . . ." Anna's eyes flickered to the open toy chest, and the King and Queen soon followed her eyes. The Queen stepped forward, hesitantly, until she could peer down into the chest. Anna's toes curled, afraid that she'd be in trouble.
The Queen gasped, and looked up at Anna with disapproving eyes. The princess winced. The King leaned over her shoulder to look in the chest, and then looked at Anna with a similar gaze to her mother's.
"Anna, you can't keep them." The King said sternly.
"Why?" The red-haired princess whined. She stuck her lip out in a pout, and crossed her own arms. "I'm bored- and lonely. Please, let me keep them. I'll take good care of them- I promise, I will!"
The King and Queen shared a look. They hated it when Anna played the "lonely" card. It was kind of a cheap shot. Finally they sighed. Really, how much harm could it do, letting her have a few little gosling pets?
Anna knew they were caving, so she put on her best puppy-dog eyes. Oh no, The King thought. Not the eyes. Please, not the eyes. By now, it looked like he and the Queen were physically struggling to keep their mouths shut. Anna's lip began to tremble.
"Fine," The King gave in. Anna cheered.
"Thankyouthankyouthankyou!" She laughed, jumping from her bed and wrapping her arms around her parents' middles. Kailash stirred and woke, honking loudly to announcing her presence.
"But you have to keep them outside, no more bringing them into the castle." The Queen added, handing Kailash back to Anna, who lightly touched one of her yellow feathers.
"Deal. Thank you so much." She said, smiling up to her parents. Though the King tried to fight it, he smiled back too.
"Okay," Anna mumbled, turning back to her box-o-geese. "Let's get you four back to the pond."
When Anna arrived at dinner that evening, she was grinning like a fool. She had spent all day with her little goslings- and had brought down old pieces of cloth to make their nest more comfortable. Even though she knew it wouldn't do any good, Anna made Alma a little sling for her wing. She had frantically tried to shake it off only moments later, so Anna didn't bother trying to put it back on her. Emil had, again, eaten everything Anna had given them to eat. It was a little funny, seeing how much he ate in comparison to Kailash.
"Hello!" Anna called, seating herself in her chair with a plate of food and a lid already set for her. The King and Queen smiled at her, and at the feather stuck in one of her braids. Her dress was dirty from playing in the dirt by the gosling's nest, but the Queen didn't comment on it- she knew how excited she was about her new little pets.
"How was your day?" The King asked, standing so he could more easily pour water from a pitcher into his glass.
Anna passed him her own glass as soon as he was done filling his own. "Good! Really good- Vilde was shy yesterday, but she was better now that she was back in her nest. I put a few pieces of cloth in the bottom, and she'll only sit on one of them- it's kinda' funny."
The King and Queen nodded at her story, and she took off telling them about her day. They added comments every now and then, but mostly let her speak without interruption. After a while, Anna's stomach rumbling brought them back to the dinner table.
"Here, let me help you with that." The King offered, wrapping his hand around the handle on Anna's dinner lid. He lifted it, and immediately the princess was confused.
"What's . . . that . . ." She asked slowly, pointing to the meat on her plate. It wasn't that she had never seen it before, oh no. It was just . . . well, she didn't really want anyone to tell her what it was.
"Oh. Well it's-" The King stopped short, actually looking down to see what the chefs had prepared for them. He was confused for a moment, wondering why Anna was confused, before everything slid into place in his mind. He glanced at the Queen, who shrugged.
"Is it," Anna looked away from her food up to her parents. "a goose? The bird that Kai found was a goose?" She asked, looking from one parent to the other. They didn't say anything.
It took a few minutes for everything to click into place in her mind. It was almost like you could hear the gears turning in her head. Finally realization colored her face, and she shoved her chair away from the table. "You were going to feed me my babies' mother!?" She screamed.
"Anna-" The Queen was going to chisel her for her outburst, but she was already running out of the dining room. "Anna!" The Queen yelled after her instead.
Anna didn't know why she was so upset at them- they hadn't known what the chefs were going to cook; and the chefs had no way to know that Anna had just adopted orphaned goslings. At least she was sure they were orphaned now.
Anna pushed her way into the kitchen, and wondered if she should stomp on the chef's food as she past. She decided against it, and instead shoved the servant's door open. She quickly ran to the gosling's nest, where her preciouses were sleeping. Preciouses? She was surprised by her own wording. Sheesh, so fancy.
Lightly, she touched each of their feathers- trying not to disrupt them as they slept. "I'm sorry about your Mama." She mumbled, despite knowing they could not hear her nor would they understand.
Anna could hear someone step onto the grass behind her. She knew it was her Papa. She'd apologize to him, and return to her meal (though by no means was she eating the goose), and then she'd go to sleep.
But despite the little dinner mishap- she really was happy. Her goslings gave her someone to talk to.
"I hope you stay here forever." Anna mumbled, her eyes on Kailash's tiny form. The puff wiggled, as though she had heard Anna's request. The princess smiled, and then turned to face her father.
Five years later
"'Cause for the first time in forever," Anna swirled around in her coronation dress, her hair pinned to perfection. Her eyes landed on a familiar sight, and she continued to twirl towards her.
Anna kneeled down by Kailash- now a full grown goose with handsome brown feathers and babies of her own. Anna held her hands down so Kailash's goslings could climb on; glancing for her former pet's approval. "I won't be alone."
Anna smiled at the three babies that had climbed into her palms, and lifted them closer to her face. "I can't wait to meet everyone," She admitted. She gasped, realization crossing her features.
"What if I meet the one?" She looked at her grand-goslings, a bright smile crossing her features. She looked away, day dreaming about her perfect guy- just as one of the goslings honked to get her attention.
She grinned at the little guy, then at Kailash, still waiting for the return of her babies.
She set the goslings down again, waved at the goose, and continued on- twirling to continue her song. The goose watched her, before waddling towards her home nest.

heybilljoyce: Katherine, now Mother Goose, stands atop the actual North Pole on Christmas Eve 1933. She waits for her beloved Jack Frost. Down below Christmas is getting under way. The vast city of The Great Northern Endeavor is hectic with last second preparations. Balloons and Blimps of the Yuletide Air-O-Nauts are launching. Their cargoes full to bursting with the wished for toys of countless children. But where is Jack? Have the Nightmare Men tracked him down? I’m not even sure. As I finish the novel I’m discovering new victories and heartbreaks everyday.

My interpretation of an adult Katherine from the Guardians of childhood series.
I’d like to imagine that this is her personal study where she has a copy of every story that has ever existed.
It’s a magical library, she has.

Katherine is heavily implied to become the fairy tale character, "Mother Goose". This is later confirmed by William Joyce, who said that he made it as obvious as possible, but doesn't like saying it. The large goose is a rare breed only found in the Himalayas, named Kailash. Kailash is an orphaned Great Snow Goose of the Himalayas. She was raised by Katherine, whom she came to see as her mother. Before Kailash hatched, her parents died in an avalanche that was caused in the battle against Pitch. She hatched a short time later, and believed Katherine to be her mother. Katherine, with the help of the Yetis and Nightlight, raised Kailash during the Guardians' time at the Lunar Lamadary. In Santoff Claussen Kailash lives in a nest that serves as a roof to Katherine's tree house. The two even used to sleep together in that nest while Nightlight watched over them. #riseoftheguardians #rotg #guardiansofchildhood #goc #guardianofstorytelling #Kailash #Katherine #greatsnowgoose #history #mothergoose #quote #story https://www.instagram.com/p/CD3vZ2Ol_SI/?igshid=h4hthojrf4bz

A Nightlight's secret (Chapter 2)
Ao3 link
°°°°°
Morning light shined through the window.
Katherine's eyelids fluttered as the brightness hit them, telling her it was time to wake up.
Her eyes slowly opened, looking around trying to remember where she was. She recognized the room Nicholas gave her and the day before played out in her head.
Realizing it was time to get ready she got out of bed and started her morning routine. She had to be fast as she needed to get Kailash.
°°°°°
Jack, unlike Katherine, wasn't a morning person.
Since he didn't get almost any sleep that night, he was grumpy and didn't want to get out of bed.
He turned to his side, suddenly falling of the bed. He cussed under his breath, but stayed there for a moment. His body didn't feel like moving, but soon he decided it was enough lying around and got up.
Today was going to be a long day, he was sure.
°°°°°
Katherine walked into the kitchen, greeting the hardworking yetis and elves. She asked if breakfast was ready and one of the yetis told her to sit down. She was served her food, quickly eating it and thanking them, she got out of the kitchen and searched for North, who was in he's office sculpting a train made out of ice.
"Good morning Nicholas! I see you got to work early." She greeted her brother.
"Morning Katherine! Slept well?"
"Yes. Umm.. May I borrow your snow globe? I need to pick up Kailash from Ganderly."
"Well, of course! Here!" He pulled it out from his pocket and handed it to her.
"Thank you Nick!" She looked down at the glass globe filled with snow in her hand and than at North, smiling to him sweetly.
"It's no problem! Just be sure to keep good care of it!"
"I will! Thank you, again. See you later!" She said as she walked out of the office.
"Bye!" North said followed by him cheerfully yellingat the elves "Where are the cookies?".
Katherine chuckled as she heard her brother yell. He always loved to eat while he worked.
She shook the snow globe and threw it on the ground, a portal immediately appearing in front of her.
She jumped into it and found herself in her library. The Raconturks greeted her with delight.
"Greetings Lady Goose." One said.
"Greetings Raconturk. Do you mind telling me where Kailash is?"
"Of course, my Lady. This way."
°°°°°
"Good morning!" Jack exclaimed as he greeted the yetis working "Where's North?"
A yeti mumbled, which he translated into "The office".
"Okay then, thanks."
He walked down the hall and knocked on the door.
"Come in!" Yelled a voice from the inside.
He opened the door to find the jolly old fatherly figure snacking on some sugar cookies. He chuckled and said:
"Hey North!"
"Ah! Jack! I see you got up! Come on, let's go to eat. Ombric is probably waiting." North said as he walked over to Jack.
"What about Katherine?" Jack asked.
"She went to pick up her pet goose, Kailash, early this morning. Why?"
Jack had to quickly think of something.
"No reason" No reason? THAT'S all you could think of Frost?
North chuckled.
"Of course."
°°°°°
In the kitchen, Ombric was waiting for them. He chatted with the yetis as they prepared the table for breakfast. The were eggs, pancakes, bacon, cookies, you know, a perfectly normal breakfast, for North at least. Seriously, who has three types of cookies for breakfast?
There were sugar, chocolate chip AND gingerbread cookies. Why do you need that much sugar in the morning?
Ombric sighed as he watched Jack and North walk in, both laughing like crazy people.
"Good morning Nicholas. I see you're already wide awake." Ombric said.
"Ombric! Did you start breakfast without us?"
"No, I was waiting for you. Come, sit down, I'm starving." The old wizard as he took a bite of his food.
Jack sat beside North. He didn't eat often, he was a spirit, he didn't need to eat so he wasn't hungry, but he thought Eh, why not?It wasn't like he couldn't eat. He took a bite of the bacon immediately deciding he didn't like bacon, but since he started eating it, he wanted to finish it.
"So, Jackson, I don't think we spoke yesterday. It is nice to meet you. I have never met one of the four Season Sprites, and I have met Mother Nature herself." Ombric stated.
Jack wanted to speak but his mouth was full. If his mother was here, she would scold him. He put his right hand on his mouth and with his left hand he put a finger up as to say One second. He finished eating and said:
"Really? You haven't met any of the others? Not Wilow or Reneé or Joshua? I might be the most famous one, but uhh, people usually have met them before me. And you've met Em? I don't really know anyone else who has met her except for the Season siblings."
"The Season siblings?"
"Yeah, that's what we call each other. Though none of us are really related."
"Ah really?"
"Yes, but I'm not as close to the others as they are to each other. The last time we tried to hang out together I created a giant blizzard out of anger. We don't get along well."
Both Ombric and North burst into laughter.
"You must really hate them since you made such a storm because of them."
Jack chuckled, knowing that was so wrong.
He never hated them. They were annoying, yes, but he didn't hate them. He always wanted to be as close to them as they are, but it was hard since they were so different.
"No, not really. I don't hate them at all. It's just they can get too much for me. Emily has tried everything, but we really just don't get along. That's all."
"Ah, I see. It must be hard to be the only one that stands out."
Jack look down at his plate.
"We all stand out. We are all different. It's just, I've always felt like an outsider. But it's not that bad. I get along with Willow just fine since I help her color the leaves in Fall. Reneé and I are the wilder of the group, and sometimes prank the other two. Joshua and I are good friends, but we don't always get along since we think the opposite. It's just when they're together they tend to stop
thinking seriously."
"Look who's talking." North said, calling out the irony.
"Haha. Meet them and we'll see who's worse. Me or them together."
"How can we meet them? They are never in one place for too long."
"Well, neither am I and yet you found me and threw me in a sack." Jack joked.
"When will you let that go?"
"When i die."
"-Oh wait, I'm already dead."
"Ok you two, cut it out." Ombric felt like he was scolding his students, except they were centuries younger than these two.
"Anyways, I need to go. I promised the kids from Burgess one last snowday before Spring starts." Jack said as he got up.
"Didn't you promise Katherine that you would finish telling her your story?"
"I'll come back later. I'm already late and the kids are probably waiting for me."
"Okay then. Goodbye Jack."
"Bye."
°°°°°
Just as he was about to fly out, a portal opened before him. A giant goose and Katherine walked out of it.
"Jack? Where are you going?" Katherine asked.
Jack wasn't looking at her though, no, he was looking at Kailash. She had grown so much.
"O-oh. Hey Kath! Who is this?" He asked Katherine, eyes still glued to Kailash. She was a little intimidating, if he was being honest.
"Jack, meet Kailash! My pet Himalayan Snow Goose. She think I'm her mother. That's were the name "Mother Goose" comes from."
Jack finally looked at Katherine, their eyes meeting for the first time that day.
He chuckled. "Well, she's one of the prettiest geese I've seen."
Kailash looked flattered by the compliment.
She stepped towards him and muzzled her beak in his chest.
"W-woah there." Jack said, taken off guard. He was pushed a step back by her force, but started petting her.
A light chuckle escaped Katherine.
"It looks like she likes you already!"
"Really? Well. I like you too Kailash." He told her putting his hands on his sides, eyes locked on Kailash.
"But, anyways, where were you going?"
"To Burgess. I promised the kids there that I would give them one last snowday before Spring takes over completely."
"Oh, then, when are you coming back?"
"I don't know. Maybe in a few hours?"
"Okay, I'll wait for you to come back so we can finish the story."
Then, Jack had an idea.
"Why don't you come with me?" He asked Katherine.
Katherine was taken aback. Why not? When was the last time she had any fun?
"Okay! Let's go then!" She exclaimed.
"Great! Just you'll need warmer clothes. Those seem too light for snow." He pointed at her yellow dress. He was right. She needed to change.
"Go on. Kailash and I will wait for you."
"Okay."
°°°°°
As soon as Katherine was gone, Kailash put her head on Jack's shoulder and honked. Jack, knowing the languages of most animals understood what she said.
"Is it really you Nightlight?"
"Yeah... It's really me." He answered the question.
He was so happy. Kailash recognized him. She remembered him. She was so smart. Though he wondered how a goosecould recognize him, but the Guardians, the wisest people in existence couldn't.
"I'm so happy! We thought we lost you!" The goose continued happily honking.
"Shh. I'm here. But I need you to promise not to tell the other Guardians, okay?"
"But..Why?"
"It's not the right time. When I'm ready to tell them, I will. But for now, they can't know, okay. Please."
"Okay, I promise Nightlight."
"That's not my name anymore, Kai. My name's Jack."
Jack laughed and Kailash honked. The old friends were happy to see each other.
°°°°°
"Ahh. I see you two made friends." Katherine said, startling the two.
"Oh. Katherine! Are you ready to go?"
"Yeah. Let's go."
Katherine got on Kailash.
"Come on!" She yelled at Jack to
climb on Kailash with her.
"N-no need! I can fly!"
"Come on. Me and Kailash don't know the way to Burgess, and you're a lot faster than us. We won't be able to catch up!"
"O-okay then." He flew to Kailash's back, careful as not to hurt her. Right as he settled in, Kailash took off.
°°°°°
When they arrived in Burgess, Jack got off Kailash and searched for the kids.
They were near the pond, playing around it.
Without wasting time, Jack immediately let snowflakes fall, the ground soon getting covered by a thick layer of snow.
The kids were ecstatic! They searched the sky for Jack, their eyes soon falling on him they yelled his name.
"Jack Frost! Jack Frost!" A little blonde girl started jumping up and down.
"Jack!" Her brother yell aswell, waving at him with a big smile on his face.
They were Jamie and Sophie Benett. The kids Jack was closest to since Jamie was the first kid to see him.
"Heyo squirts! Ready for a snowday?" Jack asked them.
"Heck yeah!" The kids yelled.
"Woah! What's that!" Sophie pointed at the sky, where Kailash and Katherine were.
"Ah! There you two are!" Jack spoke to them.
They landed near the pond, the kids surrounding them. Katherine got off Kailash with Jack's help.
"Who is she Jack?" Jamie asked him.
"Guys, this is Katherine, Mother Goose, and that lovely goose over there is Kailash. She's a guardian, like me!" Jack introduced them.
"Woah! Really?" The kids yelled in amazement.
°°°°°
The kids were playing around in the snow, making snowmen and throwing snowballs.
One kid wasn't though.
Jamie sat down on a bench alone. He seemed deep in thought.
"Hey Jamie. What's wrong?" Jack asked him.
"It's nothing, Jack, don't worry." Jamie replied to him, still looking down at his hands.
Jack recognized his behaviour. It was the same as him, he hid what was wrong, not wanting to bother anyone.
"That's not true now, is it?"
Jamie sighed.
"No. It's not."
"So, what's bothering ya?"
"There's this.. girl-"
"WOAH, Woah, woah, a girl?"
"Yeah..."
"So you have a crush?"
"Yeah...?" Jamie admitted, his face glowing red.
Jack chuckled. A girl? Seriously? That was the problem?
"Don't laugh! It's serious!"
"Okay, okay. What about this girl?"
"Well, I think I like her..."
"Aaaand you don't know how to tell her?"
"Yeah. But it's just, I don't even know her that well. She just moved into town.."
"Really? You just met her and you already have a crush? Is she that pretty?"
"I mean yeah, but that's not really why I like her."
"Then why?"
"Well... She introduced herself in class and we started talking. She's so nice! And she like the same things I do! She's a believer aswell! I never met someone who was just like me!"
That left Jack in thought. This might be Jamie's first crush! He had to be more sensitive about this and help him!
"Hmmm... Okay! Here's what you should do!
Get closer to her, becomes friends, get to know her better, help her, show her that you care about her. A good romance always starts with a good friendship!"
"That's actually great advice, Jack!" Katherine said as she walked.
"W-well, I am three hundred years old after all! I've seen a lot."
Jamie looked at Katherine, and then back a Jack, smiling at him with a smug and knowing grin on his face.
"But, that sounds like it's said from experience." She added.
"Yeah! Have you ever been in love, Jack?" Jamie asked him.
The smile on Jack's face wilted. Jamie figured he asked the wrong question.
"Yeah..Once.." Jack clutched Twiner in his fists.
"I'm sorry, Jack. I asked the wrong question." Jamie apologized.
"It's okay, squirt. No worries!" He smiled at him "Now let's get back to the others, shall we?" He said, jumping on his feet.
"Okay." Jamie said as he ran to join the other kids playing.
Jack and Katherine stayed back and watched them.
"Hey?" She turned to him "Are you okay?".
"Yeah, I'm well."
"Are you sure?"
"..."
"No, not really."
"Do you want to talk about it?"
"Sure, I guess?"
"What was her name? The girl you loved, I mean."
"I don't remember." Lies!
"Really?" Katherine's voice was so soothing.
"I only remember her face and that she was important to me." Again, lies.
"A-are you sure she wasn't your sister?"
"My sister was eight at the time. It wasn't her." You didn't even know your sister back then, you absolute idiot.
"Is that why you're sad? Because you don't remember her?"
"Yeah." Sigh
"But! It's not the time to be sad about the past now!" He exclaimed, putting on his signature grin right before a snowball hit his face. He burst into laughter and it was then that Katherine realized something.
That laugh. It was childish and it rang like bells. There was no mistake. It was identical to Nightlight's.
How had she not realized it sooner? Now she looked at him as he was running around playing with the children and saw the similarities. He looked older, yes, but they were identical. Could it really be? Could Jack be Nightlight?
Her heart started pounding faster.
No. She thought What am I thinking?
Am I just trying to replace Nightlight with Jack? No, I can't do that. That's not fair to either of them. Not to Nightlight. Not to Jack.

A Night of Stories
@rotgsecretsanta to @tenchikotheauthor Merry Christmas!!! I went and reread the books and rewatched the movie to try and get this done (hence part of the reason why it’s so late, the other part was that it was being stubborn). Hope you like it!!
Jack hid his soft snickers behind his hand before glancing around the corner again. Jamie and his friends had gathered around Mother Goose, or Katherine, to listen to the tales of the Guardians she had gathered over the years. But those snickers finally faded away as he glanced at Katherine’s face. She was looking so much better. She hadn’t looked good some time ago as children seemed to stop believing in her. Everyone figured it had to have been some devious plan put together by Pitch, but they hadn’t seen him for some time. But right now, that concern fell away from Jack like a snowflake from a cloud, he was filled with joy. After telling Jamie and his friends of Katherine’s plight, they insisted upon visiting her as soon as possible, and tonight was their chance. The mischievous twinkle in Jack’s eyes sparkled merrily, he had promised to leave and let the children listen to Katherin’s stories without interruption, as he often did, but that only allowed him more time to come up with another plan to get everyone to have some fun.
“So, what stories would you like to hear?” asked Katherine as she opened a large book and laid it flat across her lap.
“All of them!” shouted the children in unison.
Katherine chuckled. “Oh my, I can’t read all of them, there isn’t much time! Santa will be back soon to take you home.”
“Aw!” the kids moaned.
Jack sighed and shook his head before walking into their midst. “What kind of an attitude is that? You can come back and hear more stories.” He nodded at Katherine. “Why don’t you start at the beginning? I’ll keep an eye out for North.”
Katherine smiled. “Thanks Jack.”
He grinned at her. “No problem.” He flew off and Katherine began telling the children about how it all began, how the Man in the Moon brought them all together, how she met Nicholas St. North, Ombric, and the others, how they fought Pitch, how they nearly lost Jack, and how, together, they saved the world. The children listened with rapt attention and kept mostly quiet, besides a few questions from Jamie. But as the story continued and Katherine neared the end, she became increasingly worried. Where was North? The children really should have gotten back by now. Had Pitch made another attack and they were fighting him off, thinking the children were safest with Katherine at that moment? But how could that be? Pitch needed some years to recuperate from his most recent defeat. So, where was he? Katherine finished the story and closed the book. The children moaned.
“Wait a minute?” said Jamie. “Jack told me he was a human before being turned into Jack Frost. How could this Nightlight fellow have turned into him too?”
Katherine smiled sadly. “That is a story for another time. Right now, I think we had best find out exactly what’s taking North so long.”
“D-do you think i-it’s Pitch?” asked Monty nervously.
“No, Pitch needs a little more time than that to get his strength back and come up with a new plan.”
“M-maybe the Monkey King?’ asked Pippa, referring to one of Pitch’s henchmen that they just found out about and apparently hated the Tooth Fairy with a passion.
Katherine’s eyes narrowed. “Maybe, I don’t know.” She turned to the children. “Wait here with Kailash.” The children nodded before huddling near the large goose. Katherine gave a slight nod before walking towards the doorway. When she cleared the corner and was out of sight of the children, she pulled out a long, thin blade that had been hidden in her yellow coat. Cautious but determined, she peeked around the corner. Jack was nowhere in sight. Pursing her lips, she ventured forward stealthily. A noise seemed to come from the balcony. Heart pounding, she turned and ventured in that direction. Was it the Monkey King, or had North finally arrived? Not wanting to get caught unawares, Katherine kept her sword out, but she walked more quickly now. She placed her hand on the handle and paused, there was that noise again. Was that yelling too? She opened the door and . . . whoosh!!
“Jack! Bunny!”
“Oh knock it off you bloody show pony! Stay still so I can hit you!”
“But where’s the fun in that?” Jack laughed as a snowball whizzed by him.
“Ack! Bunny! You are not aiming right!” North threw a snowball, and it passed Jack right up. Bunny shot North a look before going back to throwing snowballs.
“Hey!” shouted Katherine. Everyone stopped and looked at her. Jack came down and stood in front of her.
“Oh, uh, hi! Care to join us? Oof!”
“Ha-ha, finally got you,” said Bunny with a huge grin on his face.
Katherine placed her hands on her hips. “Is this what you’ve been doing this whole time? Had me and the kids worried that something bad was happening!” She glared at them.
“Don’t look at us, it was all his doing!” said Bunny, pointing at Jack.
She did look at him. Jack threw up his hands. “What? I just wanted to give the kids a little more time to hear your stories.”
Katherine crossed her arms. “Well I think they’ve had plenty of time. They need to go home.”
“Oh, alright,” said Jack.
“Where are the kids?’ asked Bunny as they followed Katherine inside.
“I left them in Ombric’s library with Kailash.” She paused when they entered the library. “Oh my, and we have a problem.”
“What?” exclaimed everyone. Katherine merely pointed with a grin. The children were snuggled up to Kailash and all were sound asleep. Kailash rose her head when the Guardians entered the room, but went back to sleep when she saw who it was. Gently, carefully, the Guardians picked up the children one by one and carried them to North’s sleigh. They quickly brought each one home and put them to bed. Bunny, Tooth, and Sandy left from Burgess while Jack and Katherine opted to return with North.
Jack scooted closer to Katherine. “So, feeling better?”
She smiled. “Much better, thank you Jack.” She shot him a look. “Though, I would have felt even better had I known what you were planning.”
Jack grinned. “And ruin all the fun?”
“Fun?” said Katherine. “You seriously think letting us sit there and worry about you all is fun?”
“OK, you’re right, sorry, that wasn’t fun.” He shot her an apologetic smile. “But, it did work. I do promise to have a better plan next time.”
“Sure you will.”
“So, if there’s nothing else for you two to do, would you care to join me for some hot cocoa at the North Pole?” North was watching them with an amused raised eyebrow.
Jack grinned at North before glancing at Katherine. “That actually sounds like fun. What do you say?”
Katherine sighed, but she was smiling brightly. “Oh alright. Let’s stop by Ombric’s first to let Kailash know, and then we’ll head over.”
North nodded. “Sounds good.” He took out his snow globe, thought of Ombric’s place, and threw it. The sleigh disappeared into the portal, leaving sleeping Burgess behind, for the night.

Callout post for Kailash from @katherineandkailash, for being too big to fit in the picture frame so she ends up peekin’ in from the background with her beady goose eyes.
