ten storylines u think could have been amazing in lo if they had been handled better?
10 already feels like so much for a story like LO buuttt:
1.) the act of wrath plotline, seriously this one felt like it had some of the most lost potential as one of LO's more unique plotlines (and it lost that potential as soon as it was turned into some "oopsy" committed by persephone due to her wrath being a 'gift' from eris when she was a baby??? still bugs me so much ugh) give me back that dichotomy of Persephone and her internalized wrath, dangit.
2.) the Eros and Psyche plotline. it started off so promising as a parallel B-plot to H x P and then seemed to just get dropped halfway through S1 when Psyche got turned into a nymph.
3.) Echo's involvement as a double agent for Zeus. that was clearly the intention when she was introduced but then she was promptly dropped and only showed up again to say "fuck you Zeus" with zero build-up or implication that she had a change of heart. Like imagine if we actually saw her leaking info back to Zeus but then also getting closer to Hera on a personal level and realizing that she didn't want to keep snitching on her. it would have also made the 'big reveal' of Hera kissing Echo a lot more impactful because then they would have had an actual story arc.
4.) Persephone's character development into becoming the Dread Queen. Right now the story wants us to think that Persephone is somehow "better than ever" despite the fact that her version of the "Dread Queen" is being an absolute Karen. But think of how it could have been if her character de-evolution was the point, to show how Hades had corrupted her. Or if they were meant to be actual shitty people and not shitty people that the narrative was trying to convince us were good.
5.) Hades' and Minthe's relationship. It goes without saying that Minthe was wrong to turn to physical violence, but I'll die on the hill that Minthe wasn't being treated fairly by Hades, either. Those three flashback episodes in S2 leading up to Minthe getting turned into a plant were such a missed opportunity to showcase how Minthe became as bitter as she did towards Hades and what their relationship was actually like in the beginning (and why they liked each other in the first place which they very clearly did) but instead it just dragged its heels because obv Rachel didn't want people empathizing with Minthe.
6.) Ares being used as a tool for war by Zeus. It's clear being sent off to these wars is taking its toll on him and it's created a steep divide within the family, especially concerning how protective Ares is of Hera esp when it comes to how Zeus treats her.
7.) The Aphrodite / Hephaestus plotline. Good god I have no idea what the thought process was behind this one, some of the myths she kinda got away with flipping but this was the one that made the least sense to flip. There was so much potential there that was squandered, a lot of it at the expense of Aphrodite and Ares as traditionally powerful and respected gods.
8.) Hades' alcoholism. Minthe was right, simply falling for Persephone and dropping the cigars and brandy to make himself look better for her doesn't make him a changed person. If the alcoholism was linked to his trauma, why didn't we explore that more? Why couldn't we have seen him actually pursue proper recovery and have it not just be "I'm hot for the 19 year old girl but if I'm drinking constantly that'll make me look bad so I'm just gonna put on the best fake persona I can to make her fall in love with me" instead of actually getting to the root of his issues?
9.) The SA plotline. As much as I talk about how shitty it is, I have zero issue with the original depiction of it, I think it was very accurate especially when it comes to coercion. A lot of people assume SA has to be violent, kicking and screaming, begging for help, but coercive assault is often a lot quieter and more about manipulation which that scene nailed in depicting. It's just everything after that that feels completely misfired and more so for the purpose of making Hades look like a better person simply by comparing him to Apollo on the basis of "he never assaulted Persephone!" and it drives me nuts.
10.) Demeter's winter. In the most recent FP episode, while discussing it with pals, all I could really say was, "This was supposed to be a retelling of the Abduction of Persephone". And Demeter's winter is a core part of that story, one of its biggest purposes in Greek culture was using the myths to explain the creation of the seasons. Despite this being a "retelling" of the Abduction of Persephone / Hymn to Demeter, one of the most important characters in the entire myth has been reduced to, at worst, a Mother Gothel Disney villain, and at best, a pointless NPC.

Hi!! I love your friends writing!! I have an idea and it’s totally fine if you don’t like the ideas, but what if Joey and reader broke up, ( he cheated or whatever you want) before all of the friends met. And she gets introduced to him as like one of the others sister/school friend.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~°~❦~°~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
      Central Perk.
     You came to a stop before the sign on the front of the coffee shop where Rachel had told you to meet her.
     You took a deep breath. You were excited to see her after so many years—eight years, to be exact. You were best friends all throughout middle school and part of high school, but then you’d been in different circles and, especially ever since you’d moved out of the state, you had lost touch.
     When she heard you were going to be in New York visiting some family, you both had made plans to see each other and she had suggested here.
     You pushed open the door and saw Rachel, sitting in a chair and sipping from a yellow mug.
     “Rachel?”
     “(Y/n)?” She ran over to you, giving you a big hug. “Wow, you look great!”
     “I could say the same about you,” you said, as she led you to the couch opposite the chair she’d been occupying and you both sat down.
     “So tell me,” she said, “What’s new with you since high school?”
     Where did you even begin?
     “Well, college,” you started, “and now I’m a—”
     You cut off as you saw someone enter the room. Someone you would recognize anywhere.
     “You ever wonder why restrooms are called restrooms. I mean, you don’t rest in there,” the man said as he walked from the back towards Rachel.
     Joey Tribbiani.
     You hadn’t thought you would ever see him again. Not after all this time. Not after what he did to you.
     But it was definitely him. He had the same hair, the same style, the same swagger that he walked with like he was just so damn attractive.
     And he was so damn attractive, you thought as you looked at him. Curse him. Curse him and his good genes.
     “Hey Joe,” Rachel said, “I’d like to introduce you to my friend, (Y/n).”
     Joey turned to you and his eyes widened. He stared at you for a moment before turning back to Rachel.
     “And (Y/n), this is Joey.”
     “It’s a pleasure to meet you, Joey,” you said, keeping a pleasant expression on your face.
     “The pleasure is all mine,” Joey shook your hand, “(Y/n).”
     “Ok, am I missing something here?” Rachel looked confused, “Do you two know each other?”
     “Yes,” you and Joey said at the same time and Rachel’s brow furrowed.
     “Rach, can I talk to you for a minute?” You said, dragging her away from Joey and towards the other side of the coffee shop.
     “What is he doing here?” you whispered.
     “Joey? He’s a friend of mine, why?”
     “We kind of have a history,” you said, rising a glance over at Joey but he was already sitting down and eating a croissant. Typical.
     “Did you guys used to date or something?” Rachel looked at you.
     “That’s one word for it,” you bit out, “Yes, we dated. Until he cheated on me with Lucinda Figglebottom in senior year of high school.”
     It had been many years since you and Joey had dated. Since you had walked in on him making out with one of your classmates who he swore was just a friend. Since he had broken your heart.
     And you had moved on a long time ago. You had hardly even thought of Joey and what he did to you. Time had made you numb to it as time has a way with doing to all things.
     But seeing him here, with Rachel. You felt like you were 18 again and you remembered why you had hated him for so many months.
     And Joey didn’t even look affected, you thought. He had been surprised to see you, sure. But he clearly hadn’t been hurt as you had. Why would he have been when he’s the one who cheated on you?
     “Wow (Y/n), I had no idea—” Rachel said apologetically.
     “How could you have known? It’s fine, it was a long time ago, and we’re all adults here,” you assured her.
     “Most of us,” you mumbled under your breath.
     You and Rachel walked over to where Joey was sitting.
     “Well,” Rachel said, “Now that we’ve got the introductions out of the way. (Y/n), you were telling me about your life now.”
     Now that Joey was here listening, you felt the need to exaggerate the better points of your life. That would show him that you were different now from the girl who ran out of the room crying when she found her boyfriend cheating on her and spent the next few months crying until her tear ducts didn’t have any tears left.
     “My life?” You started, “Oh you know, I travel a lot, when my work allows it. But, I try not to leave my husband and kids in that big house alone for too long. You understand, of course.”
     The fact that you had a house was the only true part of that sentence. Rachel looked at you curiously.
     “Oh, speaking of work, I have an audition,” Joey said, standing up. You sighed. You were pretty sure he hadn’t even been paying attention to anything you just said.
     “So you’re still acting?” You couldn’t resist, “I assume it’s going better for you than when I knew you?”
     “Yeah, well, I’d better get going,” Joey said, not quite meeting your eye. “It was good seeing you again (Y/n).”
     He stood up and left in a hurry before you could say anything else, and you and Rachel were left alone.
     “Oh my god he’s still in love with you!” Rachel said.
     You spun around, “What?”
     “Did you see the way he looked at you? I mean, he didn’t flirt with you or ask you out or try to look at your backside or anything.”
     You stared at her baffled, “And that means he’s in love with me?”
     Rachel nodded and you shook your head, “No. Trust me. He does not want to get back together with me and I certainly don’t want to get back together with him.”
     You were both silent for a moment before Rachel’s face lip up as she looked like she had an idea,
     “Hey, why don’t you come to Monica’s birthday party this Saturday. It would give us another chance to catch up and you could meet some of my other friends.”
     “Is Joey going to be there?” You asked her, trying to keep your tone casual.
     Rachel opened her mouth to respond but you cut her off. Why should it matter if Joey was going? You could be in the same room together, for goodness sakes. You weren't going to not go just because Joey might be there.
     “Never mind,” you said, “I’ll be there.”
₊˚ ✧ ‿︵‿୨୧‿︵‿ ✧ ₊˚
     You walked into Rachel and Monica’s apartment that Saturday, feeling better than you had since you’d been in New York again.
     The low cut, tight dress you had picked out and the heels you were wearing made you feel confident. Confident enough to walk in there and not care if you saw Joey or not.
     In fact, you hoped you did see him. Then he could see how moved on you were and how much you didn’t care about him.
     “Hey, (Y/n),” Rachel called, “You remember Monica.”
     Monica walked over and stood next to Rachel. “Hey,” you greeted her, “It’s nice to see you again. And happy birthday.”
     Monica smiled at you, gesturing around the apartment, “Make yourself at home. We have drinks over there and hors d’oeuvres over here.”
     You thanked her and walked with Rachel towards the table with snacks and plates. You caught a flash of blue fabric to your right and you looked there seeing Joey. He was standing with a woman and he had his arm around her shoulders as they laughed about something.
     Joey can date whoever he wants, you thought bitterly. Why should I care?
     “On second thought, let’s go to the drinks table,” you told Rachel.
     She followed your gaze and nodded, walking over with you to pour your drinks. You caught Joey’s eye as you passed by him and his eyes widened as he saw you.
     His gaze trailed down your outfit and then back up to your face before he looked away quickly.
     You would make it though this, you resolved, taking sip of your drink.
     That one drink quickly turned into several, however, and you found yourself feeling lighter than you had all week.
     You met all of Rachel’s other friends and after she left to go to the bathroom, you walked over to the drink table again and scanned the room for Joey. You didn’t see him and you scolded yourself for looking.
     “Can I make you a drink?” A tall man came up behind you and you smiled up at him.
     “Sure thing,” you slurred as you watched  him pour different alcohols into a glass for you.
     He made two and then handed you one of them, which you downed very quickly. He grabbed your wrist and led you to a corner of the room that was less populated.
     It took all of three seconds before his hands were on you. An alarm went off in the back of your head but you ignored it. Maybe this was what you wanted.
     Seeing Joey this week had brought up a lot of bad memories and right now you just wanted to forget. The man you were with began kissing your neck and you saw a gleam in his eye. You knew you should be getting away from him but you couldn’t make yourself. You didn’t want to.
     You let him push you up against the wall and as he brought his lips to yours, you kissed him back. People were looking but you ignored them. You wrapped you arms around him and flipped around so he was against the wall. As the mystery man smiled down at you, he began sliding his hands down your dress and you helped him by fumbling for the zipper on the side and starting to unzip it. You stopped as you felt someone’s presence behind you.
     “(Y/n), it’s time to go,” Joey came up behind you and you felt his hand on your waist. He discreetly zipped your dress back up. Where did he even come from?
     “Get off me,” you whispered-yelled, turning to face him.
     “(Y/n), you’re very drunk,” he whispered back.
     “So?”
     “Come with me before you do something you regret,” he pulled you away from your corner of the room.
     You scoffed, “Are you sure you’re not just jealous?”
     Joey looked like he wanted to say something else but settled for. “(Y/n), come with me. I’m trying to help you.”
     “I don’t need your help,” you tried to elbow him but he just griped your arm harder and pulled you away.
     “Where are we going?” You spat as he dragged you out of the room and across the hall.
     “My apartment,” Joey said.
     “No,” you squirmed in his grip, “I don’t want to go anywhere with you.”
     Joey ignored you and opened the door to his apartment, dropping you down on the couch.
     You stood up in outrage, but your head spun and so you sat back down.
     “Here,” Joey said, handing you a mug of coffee, “drink this.”
     “Why are you doing this?” You tried to figure out amongst the fog in your brain what in the world Joey was thinking. You hadn’t talked or seen each other in years since you broke up—which was his fault— and now he was acting like you were friends.
     Joey didn’t answer you, just waited until you took a sip of the warm, bitter liquid before walking back into the kitchen and digging in the fridge.
     “What if I want to go back in there?” You asked him, trying to get his attention.
     “And let that guy stick his tongue down your throat again? He was taking advantage of you, (Y/n).”
     Was he? You couldn’t think. “Why do you care?”
     “Because,” he said, standing up straight and walking over to sit down next to you, “I care about you, (Y/n). Just because things ended…the way they did, doesn’t mean I don’t care about you.”
     “You hurt me, Joey,” you tucked your hair behind your ears. All of a sudden you felt like crying. Yes, the many years that had passed made you numb to his betrayal. But deep down, you still hated him.
     Joey rubbed the back of his neck. “I know,” was all he said.
     And he looked so sincere. So vulnerable. So much like he had when you were together. God, he was gorgeous, you thought. You leaned in closer to him.
     “You hurt me a lot,” you whispered, closer to his face now.
     He scooted back, away from you and you closed the distance again.
     You put your hand on his shoulder and he shrugged it off. “(Y/n)—”
     “Do you want to hurt me again?” You were practically on Joey’s lap now. “Then kiss me.”
     You leaned forwards and Joey abruptly stood up. He looked flustered and you wanted him to get back on the couch and kiss you. Kiss you until you stopped being mad at him and you could pretend everything was like it was before.
     “(Y/n), you’ve had a lot to drink. Try to get some rest, ok?” He walked out of the room and you laid your head down on one of the pillows.
     You wanted him to lay with you and hold you in his arms and—
      What were you thinking? This was Joey Tribbiani, the man who had kissed another woman while you two were dating and had broken your heart. What were you doing thinking of him that way?
     Snap out of it, you told yourself.
     And then your eyelids drooped and you struggled to keep them open. You gave in and let sleep take you for the night.
₊˚ ✧ ‿︵‿୨୧‿︵‿ ✧ ₊˚
     You awoke with a start, looking around and blinking sleep from your eyes. You glanced down at your shirt—no, Joey’s shirt. And Joey’s bed.
     You sat up in horror. Fragments of the night before came back to you.
     Joey walked in carrying a mug with coffee. Something about it felt vaguely familiar about the past night. He handed it to you and you took it from, griping his forearm.
     “Joey, I’m in your bed.”
     “Yeah,” he said sheepishly, “You fell asleep on the couch but I didn’t want to you be cold so I—”
     “But we didn't—”
     “No, of course not! I would never—” He looked down, “How much do you remember from last night?”
     You strained to recollect anything. The pounding in your head wasn’t making it very easy. “Enough to remember that I made a fool of myself.”
     And forced myself on you.
     “That’s not—,” he started, “well, I wouldn’t say you made a fool of yourself.”
     “Oh god,” you ran your fingers through your tangled hair, “of all the things that could’ve happened. Waking up in the bed of the man I’m supposed to hate!”
     Supposed to hate. You realized it after you said it. You’d thought you despised Joey. You did. But all you could remember was Joey brining you back to his apartment last night and saving your butt. Another memory came back.
     “I should thank you,” you told him, “Y’know, for rescuing me.”
     Joey shrugged, “I would have done it for anyone I cared about.”
     You were so confused. Confused about how you felt about Joey and how he could be acting so kind right now when he had been such a jerk to you.
     You supposed people changed. It was a long time ago, and you knew that. But you had to know why.
     You couldn’t believe you were about to ask this. But after all that had happened in the past 24 hours, you had courage enough to manage a weak, “Why, Joey?”
     “Well, when you know someone really well—”
     “No, not that,” you said, “I meant all those years ago. Why?”
     Joey sighed and sat down on the edge of the bed.
     “(Y/n), if you’re talking about why we broke up—”
     “Why we broke up?” Your voice rose. Just when you were starting to soften towards him for helping you. “You mean why you cheated on me?”
     “Let me explain,” he said, calmly, “Lucinda and I really were just friends.”
     “Is that what you told yourself after you made out with her? I’d say you were really good friends.”
     Joey continued. “She had just broken up with her ex and so she asked me as a friend, to kiss her so he’d get jealous and want to get back with her. Her ex was supposed to walk through that door, not you. But I promise, we were always just friends. I was just helping her out. I would’ve asked you, but she was so embarrassed about it that she didn’t want anyone to know.”
     Wow. What were you even supposed to say to that? If that was true then…
     “But, why didn’t you say anything?”
     “You didn’t really give me the chance,” he confessed. You supposed he was right. After you’d caught him with Lucinda you’d ran away and avoided him in any way you could.  You’d never come into contact with him again until a week ago.
     “But if I’d have known—” you broke off, “I was in love with you Joey.”
     “I felt really bad for screwing things up,” he said, “I loved you too and I missed you a lot afterwards. But I didn’t know what to do and so I just let you get away. It’s the biggest regret I’ll ever have.”
     “It’s not your fault Joey,” you said, “It was a misunderstanding and that’s that. I can’t believe I hated you for so many years.”
     “God, if I could just go back,” Joey said.
     “Maybe we don’t have to,” you looked up at him.
     “If you’re saying we should kiss right now, then I definitely agree,” Joey smirked and you laughed.
     You leaned towards him and brought his lips to yours. It had been a while since you’d done this, with Joey or anybody. It wasn’t perfect but it was exactly what you wanted. You pulled away, smiling.
     “I’ve been wanting to do this since the moment I saw you in Central Perk,” Joey admitted.
     “Really?” You said, teasing. “Creep.”
     “It is not my fault you’re that gorgeous, (Y/n).”
     “You’re not bad yourself,” you said, kissing him again.
     “So, while you’re in New York, maybe I could take you out sometime? Again.” Joey added.
     “I’d like that a lot.”
     You were thrilled. You had gone from hating Joey to kissing him in his bed. What a wild week. You knew that a lot of time had passed since your’s and Joey’s relationship and it would take some time to get to know each other again. But you wanted to do it. You wanted to make up for the time your missed when you could have been together.
     “We should tell Rachel about this,” you said, “She’ll probably be ecstatic. She had this crazy idea that you were still in love with me after all these years.”
     Joey looked into your eyes, brushing the hair back from your face.
     “I don’t think it’s that crazy, (Y/n). I don’t think it’s crazy at all.”
this might be mean but i am glad nini was off the show and a lot of characters were taken off regular status because the show needed fresh story lines after season 2
This is going to be a long answer and probably a controversial one too but I feel now that the show is over I can finally say it. I really agree. And this is in no way shade to the actors but how things were constructed in the show. I feel like it helped the show to just focus on other dynamics and characters. If you take the S1 nostalgia aspect, Season 3 and Season 4 were such a massive improvements after Season 2, which is undeniably their weakest season of all.
I liked Nini, but as a character I feel like she wasn’t giving “main character energy”. It didn’t help either that most of her arcs were individual or about Ricky or Miss Jenn. So when you took her out, she wasn’t really missed in terms of the dynamics with other characters because those improved so much after she left. On Season 3 and Season 4 the group dynamics finally felt like a family and solid friendship instead of separated groups with separated plot lines.
Also, character arc wise, I feel like Nini’s arc ended on Season 2. Her arc has always been about spreading her wings outside of East High and finding what makes her happy. She got that at the end of Season 2 so it feels like it came to a natural conclusion. Nini’s send off on Season 3 was beautiful and a nice tribute to her character and her relationships. Even now, the small details that keep Nini’s character alive are sweet. I like Olivia but Nini as a character just wasn’t memorable enough for me to care. There's not "void" to me because the show has so many great actors and vocalists that were able to shine in Nini’s absence and I am glad. I would have hated if they Rachel Berry-ed her.
A character that benefited the most from Nini’s departure was Kourtney, who was perpetually stuck in the “black best friend” stereotype. Season 3 was such an improvement because Kourt was given an individual arc that wasn’t about Nini and her issues. Plus, Gina and Kourtney’s friendship felt so much more natural and reciprocated as well and her interactions with the whole group, especially with Carlos.
Gina always felt like the hidden female main character to me because her character had so many emotional layers. I’ve always said Sofia is the best actress the show has and is constantly rising the bar in scenes with her other co-stars. Anyone that's not giving her the flowers she deserves for this last season are just crazy.
Now, one of the biggest issues with Season 2 was adding new characters while also trying to handle plot lines for the established characters. It was messy. None of the plot lines were resolved and it was too crowded with most of the new characters staying as one dimensional and stereotypical. The season was dragged out and boring. The best choice this show made was to cut down on some of them for Season 3. I like Big Red but I don't think he was neccesary as a regular at camp. I am glad he wasn't there because it gave Ashlyn space to explore herself and get one of the best character arcs on this show. Same goes for Ricky. He needed new friendships and Jet was a great one to have. I liked Big Red's cameo and it was well placed. Same goes for Seb, I like him but I am glad Carlos was able to have a solo storyline about his own insecurities and also develop stronger dynamics with the group. His friendship with Ricky was great. Seb’s cameo was well placed.
Maddox and Jet were the best additions this show has ever made. And I don't take anyone seriously if they think otherwise. After season 2, the show needed changes. A new enviroment and characters that added value. Maddox and Jet gave us a new dynamic and instantly felt like a part of the group because they weren’t there to just exist temporarily, they pushed the story lines of the existing characters forward. The show needed a canon sapphic character and Maddox was perfect and relatable. Her arc with Ash goes down as one of the best on this show. Jet was great and Adrian's vocals are show stopping. Not only did the siblings added a much needed representation but were very easy to love. Even Val, in her minimal screen time, added actual value to the story lines.
And now goes to EJ, he was not going to be a regular part of Season 4 since he isn’t in East High anymore. It was the natural progression of his character. His appearance this season felt very well placed with where his character was. It would have been very weird to find an excuse to keep him at the school just for the sake of keeping him as a regular. Glad they didn’t do it.
So yes, I think a lot of the changes were necessary and made this show better.
Episode 248
I just... hate this episode??? Screenshots under the cut, but oh my god the art is so wonky in this panel- and it especially shows in poor little baby Dionysus. The characters in this either look good or shit. Mostly shit.
Apollo's 'side' of the story is a really shitty thing to do and it seems like he's being justified in a way?? I'm not usually critical of stories, because I'm really dumb and can't analyse, but I'm sure that giving the perspective of an abuser is a pretty big no-no in writing, right? It could just be the story playing Apollo as a whiny ass guy who didn't know what he was doing, but it's coming off as 'It isn't my fault okkaaayy? 🥺👉👈'
It's just icky.
So, onto shitty ahh scenes! yaayyy. /s
All panels and shots belong to Rachel Smythe and her team
First off- tiny head syndrome, yaoi hands, and I'm 95% sure that every male character is beginning to look like a fucking margarita glass. Also, i think the background is just a little bit too blurry: Zeus doesn't really look like he's in the world around him, he's more of a PNG pasted on top.
Oh wait-
Tumblr media
Okay. Anatomy. She's got bug eyes and is drawn a little childishly but overall it's alright. Shading. Muddy as shit- Rachel, please stop using the multiply layer for everything please i swear to god-
Overall, from Apollo's perspective this is a pretty good metaphor for this whole comic. A sad little uwu girl is put on a pedestal while she does absolutely horrendous shit. Although the rest of his perspective is shit.
...Artemis, my /p Love, how... why...
So. Artemis is suffering from a really weird pose. Why are her hands doing... that? Her head is also a bit large but that's to be expected. Her pose is just so... stiff? going back to S1 she had such better posing, even if the anatomy was arguably worse.
Look at this??? There's so much emotion and personality in these, and they just look gorgeous! Now, let's compare S1 with S3, hm?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
You can see that not only the anatomy is better, the shading is better, and that her outfit is really good, but you can tell that the second photo has much, much more emotion. Natural emotion, that is, not the goofy, non-serious kind of emotion that's comedic at best.
You can tell that Rachel put so much more effort into S1, with the amazing lighting and personality.
I'm going to do he rest of the episode another day lol, the rest of my screenshots are on a diff topic.
Do you think Rachel Amber is manipulative like some people say?
Rachel is a very interesting character because of her wildly different portrayals in Season 1 and Before the Storm, especially when we look at her from the perspective of her relationship with Chloe. In BtS, she's just as interested in pursuing Chloe romantically as Chloe is interested in her, if not more. Even if Chloe chooses to say at the junkyard that she sees Rachel as a friend, Rachel tells her later under the tree that the thing between them is "intense" and that "maybe she [Chloe] sees it as a friendship", clearly implying that Rachel sees it as something romantic.
However, if we go just by what is shown and said in S1, the dynamic between Rachel and Chloe seems to be that while Chloe was deeply in love with Rachel, Rachel "only" saw Chloe as a best friend (I put the word "only" in quotation marks, because I would never want to imply that platonic love you have for your close friends is something worse than romantic love - it's obviously not, but it is different, or at least it's expressed differently).
While these two portrayals of Rachel are wildly different, it is possible to reconcile them. People change as time goes by. Especially young people can change very fast. Some relationships do not withstand the test of time. So one could imagine the BtS Rachel, who loved Chloe and genuinely dreamed of leaving town with her to begin again somewhere far away, slowly turning into S1 Rachel, who lost her love for Chloe along the way, but didn't bother telling her that, letting Chloe live a dead dream.
While the above interpretation is certainly the more comprehensive one, since it bridges both games without leaving any plot holes or discrepancies and it is realistic (time grinds down everything, sometimes even love - that's a sad reality), I don't follow it personally. I just don't want to.
The thought of someone holding the love and devotion of another person in the palm of their hand but choosing to throw it away is soul-crushing to me. The only thing worse than that is someone holding the love and devotion of another person in the palm of their hand, but not even bothering to throw it away, instead just letting it slowly drip between their fingers, neither reciprocating the feeling nor releasing the person who offered it from the spell the holder has over them.
So I choose to look at BtS Rachel and S1 Rachel as two different persons. Or maybe two wildly different portrayals of the same person, of which it is impossible to say which is the "real" one.
I don't think that BtS Rachel is "manipulative". I think that players who try to portray her as such are missing the point of that character. Just like players who claim that Chloe in S1 is a bad person or that Daniel in S2 is an annoying ingrate miss the point of those characters.
Rachel is not some secret villain. Just like Chloe and Daniel, she's a complex and imperfect character. While she's not the playable character, her relationship with that character is the main axis of the game, just like it is with Chloe and Daniel in their respective games. The point of those characters is that while sometimes relationships can become challenging, it's worth fighting to preserve them. That sometimes people deserve not to be given up on. I think that turning Rachel into some sort of "master manipulator femme fatale seductress" who took advantage of unsuspecting Chloe completely warps and taints the message present in all Life is Strange games - one of empathy and understanding, not of prejudice and condemnation.
I don't think that Rachel not telling Chloe that their escapade to the park had a hidden goal of spying on her father is proof of some wrongdoing on her part. Firstly, she told Chloe the truth. She needed company. Someone to support her. She simply didn't tell a girl she's just met her family's dirtiest secret. I think that hardly makes her dishonest. Secondly, she didn't force Chloe to go with her. Chloe made that choice herself. While Rachel must've had a general idea that Chloe wasn't doing well at school, I don't think she could've predicted that principal Wells would react so harshly. And thirdly, don't you think that if she had told Chloe the real purpose of their trip, Chloe would've been MORE, not less inclined to go with her? Chloe felt drawn to Rachel. She would've grasped at an opportunity to gain Rachel's trust by helping her in an hour of need.
I don't think that Rachel pulling Chloe into the school play was "manipulative" either. You could say it was a stupid prank or that her forcing Chloe to leave her comfort zone was not okay. But Rachel's intentions were not malicious. She wanted Chloe to take part in something she liked, anticipating that Chloe would like it too. And wasn't she right? Chloe crushed it on scene.
And yes, by asking Chloe to investigate Sera, she asked for A LOT. But isn't this what you have friends for? If you're in need of help, who are you going to ask for it? Your family and friends. In this instance, asking family for help was out of the question, for obvious reasons. And I don't think Rachel's preppy friends would be willing or able to help in that regard. Chloe was the only person she could count on. Rachel asked for a lot. Chloe was under no obligation to help her. She didn't owe her anything. But she chose to help, because she cared about Rachel. Asking your friends for help is not a sign of being manipulative. It's a sign of you trusting and needing them.
S1 Rachel most certainly didn't do right by Chloe. But I wouldn't call it being manipulative. Manipulation is a way of getting people to do the things you want them to do. And it's clear that in the months preceding her murder, Rachel wanted very little from Chloe. S1 Rachel hurt Chloe in a different way - by not being honest with her. Rachel didn't owe Chloe her love. She didn't owe Chloe a new start together. But she owed her the truth. Once she realized she no longer wanted to leave town together with Chloe, she should've told her that, instead of letting Chloe live a false hope for a better tomorrow that could never come.
can I just start with how funny it is that blaine's personality changed from well blaine to darren? Like at first he's this smooth talker suave handsome guy and then he's just... a dude? I know it's talked about a lot but it is just THAT funny.
Rewatching season 5 rn and honest to god I didn't remember a single plot point from this season. And rightly so it's so chaotic (as is most glee) I know they stopped caring at this point lmao. Like what's up with artie doing 3 girls at once?? And blaine's jealous of kurt cause he's getting muscular?? And RACHEL LEAVES FUNNY GIRL??? Like what is even happening.
Also remembering things i forgot on my rewatch: the twerking episode has a plot. I totally forgot that I always thought of it as just the twerking epsiode and while i was watching it I was like "oh it actually has kinda good plot"
This is all I can remember rn, my memory's kinda bad. Would love to hear your stuff. Especially why you ship Quartie, i never even thought of it lol
Very true! Especially compared s2!blaine to s4!blaine, it’s like a whole ‘nother level. Even before in s2, there were hints there with his romantic gesture to the gap guy, but later on, he started to get less “classy” to say the least haha.
Season 5 is actually where I stopped. Exactly at the 20th ep. It’s very weird. And the stuff with Blaine, I feel like seeing Kurt in his footing made him insecure (not that he wasn’t already but you get it). While I don’t like how he handled it and the way he acted, I can relate to feeling insecure and being a little jealous of even the closest people around me.
And the Artie plot was so funny to watch. I did really like him with Kitty tho so rip to them.
Rachel leaving Funny Girl especially is ridiculous. Her whole arc was getting into Broadway and being a star. And then fast forward to season 6 and apparently she left for a goddamn tv show and is stuck in Lima like wtf. Anyways, S1 & S4 Rachel was superior all I’ve gotta say.
The twerking one was also so icky. Like no teacher in real life would be condoning this. Not to mention, last I checked, didn’t Schue twerk on those minors??? I can’t believe I’m actually siding with Sue here but…
As for why I ship Quartie, I actually didn’t ship them when I first watched but I loved their dynamic. Seeing @thomas-the-goat-of-satan and other tumblr users talking about them made me love Quartie more.
I just love how happy Quinn was around Artie. Probably the happiest she ever was around a man lmao. And I love how they both bond when Quinn was paralyzed and the way Artie seemed to challenge her.
Also I’m Still Standing totally fucks.
ok here’s all my Thoughts about mq s3 and why it’s probably the weakest season so far.
tl;dr It just feels like they wrote themselves into a corner with how s2 ended and then didn’t know how to continue on from there. And it’s disappointing! It’s back to how it was in s1 where the only real strong character arc is Ian and Poppy’s, and the rest of the characters are just kinda… there to do funny stuff. And it’s not the worst thing in the world and they kiiiinda pull it together a little in the finale, but it’s disappointing because we know they can do good character arcs for all the characters simultaneously, because they did that in s2! Also fuck NFTs
Rest is under a read more bc I told y’all I’d write a novel
let’s compliment sandwich this so good things first:
The GrimPop storyline was good! Easily the strongest aspect of the season, tho I feel like Ian Winger-speeching himself out of the conflict was maybe a bit too easy? It was a good speech, I liked it, it fits their weird toxic codependent relationship well, but I would have liked to see him doing more for Poppy. Ah well, still good.
The bad is uhhh a lot. I don’t even know where to begin.
Actually let’s start with the metaverse/NFT shit, because it was shit and really soured me on the first half of the season. I get why these topics were included, it was a hot issue when they were writing the season, but it sucks how they were implemented. First off, it’s aged like milk, what with the multiple crypto crashes and NFTs kinda disappearing out of the collective consiousness (thank christ). Second, the fact that there’s no talk of the negative aspects of NFTs. Atrocious, especially concerning Rachel, who, being ostensibly the leftist of the group, should really at the very least have brought up the negative impact on the environment that NFTs/crypto has. Unfortunately, it does make sense why this happened. Ubisoft was one of the first game companies to use NFTs in their games, and Rob Mcelhenney owns one of those ugly fucking apes (I hope for his sake he’s sold it already), so he’s clearly invested in this shit. Obviously neither was gonna shittalk NFTs when they have such a big monetary stake in them. Hugely disappointing, but not surprising.
Now the characters... let’s start with Dana, because her “character development” was easily the most baffling to me. Like. Who is this? Where did this mini-Ian come from? This isn’t who Dana was. She had confidence, sure, but not Ian levels of delusional confidence. And like, what was the point of making her so much like Ian? How did that serve her character? Most she did was act like a kind of mediator between Ian and Poppy, but what did it do for her? The last ep kinda wrangles this into her being fed up with them and starting her own thing, but like, she was happy to hang out with Ian for most of the season. I dunno, I can kinda see what they were going for, but it doesn’t feel like there was a proper build-up to that final episode.
Let’s go to everyone’s favourite tumblr sexyman, Brad. Again, the last episode blatantly states his “arc” (working his way up to being in power again), but like. All the stuff inbetween doesn’t feel like it really adds up to anything. I mean, what did him being the janitor really... do. He acts like he’s up to something, but then he isn’t, and by ep 3 he’s already just doing HOMIE stuff again. I think it could have been so much more fun if he’d actually used his position as a janitor to weasel his way back into monetization. Like, digging up dirt on people and stuff. And again the build-up to the finale wasn’t really there. Oh, he wants a challenge now? He never talked about that. Where did that come from? Why not seed that more? Also, would have liked for his eating disorder to be addressed more. It’s so rare to see men with eating disorders on tv, it could’ve been something special. Maybe next season.
Rachel... I’m highly skeptical of her suddenly being “dumb”. Like sure, she was always shown to be a little airheaded, but it feels like they really turned it up to 11 and like... for what? It reminds me too much of how Britta was treated in later seasons of Community, and that was shitty then and is shitty now. It’s just wild to me that they’d have this whole arc in s2 about her finding her passion, and then they just throw it away. She could’ve been the new writer instead of the new HOMIE! Also, if she’s so dumb, how can she be made the new HOMIE at all. That’s a high fucking position, and you expect me to believe they just gave that to some rando ex-tester? I know MQ isn’t realistic, but I have my limits. And then they kinda lampshade that by having Brad be like “oh I engineered this” but that just feels lazy. Like my brother in christ you put her in this storyline, don’t act like it all meant nothing now. Also I know capitalism is a hell of a drug and I love me a corruption arc but could we for once have a leftist character on tv who like. Sticks to their guns and isn’t a massive hypocrite. Please.
THE LACK OF REAL STORYLINE BETWEEN BRAD AND JO. Hello he went to jail for her??? Hello?? Can we address this? Even a little? Maybe in the ep called TO CATCH A MOUSE?? It wasn’t even a mouse but you named it To Catch A Mouse and then you don’t have some sort of conversation between the mouse and the shark hello? Do I have to do everything myself around here??
Also, C.W. @kaitcake1289 already wrote a good post on this but I’d just like to reiterate what a disappointment it is that his death seemingly has zero impact on anyone. And it could have been such a good way to tie all the characters together, which I think was sorely needed with how divided they were between MQ and GrimPop. The grief they would all feel from losing the studio’s weirdo grandpa could have been such a nice overarching theme. And it could all impact them in different ways and drive their arcs this season! Just a missed opportunity, and frankly a weird way to treat the death of one of the major characters. Even Pierce’s death in Community was more impactful, and he left because there was major beef between the actor and the showrunner.
I’m a bit hmm about the idea of Dana/Jo/Brad in their own studio, bc I just don’t think splitting the characters up like this worked out this season, but we’ll see. I hope they have an actual plan this time lmao.
Okay other end of the compliment sandwich uhhhhh. I think David’s arc was decent. It was nice to see him get along with Jo and to see him stand up for himself. Um. The Christmas ep was very good. Sarian was another banger backstory ep. In general there were loads of jokes I liked! I’m just disappointed with how the characters that weren’t Ian or Poppy were treated.
I think I'm losing my mind. I was on reddit and I uninstall that yesterday cause of glee subreddit(if you don't know what is glee subreddit, there is a social media app called reddit where people of common interest or region can get together and discuss on topics posted) . So the glee reddit is kinda annoying. As far as what I've observed , that reddit has more of brittana fans and they kept bashing klaine.
The funny thing is that they hate klaine for the same reason they love brittana. Well hate and love is one's feeling. But I don't know if this particular incident triggered me. Someone was as usual bashing on klaine in a klaine Christmas celebration post. Not a hate post. So I got into a heated argument. Then there was a DM that a person accused me of lifting lines from other peoples fic to mine. And they blocked.
The thing is this fandom is not so young. Meaning you would have fics on almost all genres with similar kinda writing. I am just pissed that person accused me without any proof. Not just that.
There is this another person, who is on tumblr too. They say that they love Kurt but they said what Kurt did to get back to klaine relationship was cringey. I asked what made him cringey cause he didn't do much to get into relationship. It was all sue. And they just typed "stfu" get as spontaneously as they can.
Now what broke the camels back was I put a misinterpreted statement on another post. And I didn't know one of Rachel's dad in s3 was black but not as black as what they showed in the s1. Someone explained that the actor Brian stokes was mixed ,has black ethnicity and had lighter colour than the dude shown in s1. I agreed and I said that was my point and oh my god,the downvotes.
I just said call me racist if you want,I don't care and there is this person who called me stfu came up,called me annoying and I need help. I just cited that they have less temper and I don't need a psychology lesson from them and the person just bitched and said to seek professional help.
I don't know why I am ranting to you. I'm so sorry. I just want someone to talk me through this. This keeps pissing me off.
Hey dear! No, it's fine - sometimes it's just easier to write it all out and just let yourself feel all the things. And it's totally fine.
I'm sorry for all the crap you've been going through! It's rough when fandom does not feel like the fun place you want it to be.
I am aware of reddit and have never really been a fan. I've heard the Glee fandom on there is pretty terrible in general, so I've always avoided it. It's hard, sometimes, when there doesn't feel like a lot of places to go -- especially when the fandom has very much faded and dwindled. But my best advice is to always step away from the places that make you angry.
(It can be hard, I know! When I first joined tumblr, I think I followed people I didn't really like mostly because I felt like I /needed/ to hear their wrong take. It took me a while to figure out that it was better mentally to not engage at all.)
There are also a lot of people who would rather revel in their hate of a thing than rejoice in their enjoyment. There have been psychological studies about how anger brings people together more than love. (Interestingly, I remember a long time ago there used to be a forum for Chris fans and the biggest, most trafficked thread was about hating Darren.)
I think the other unfortunate thing so often in fandoms is that people only really want to hear what they want to hear and be validated that their opinion is the /right/ one instead of listening to what other people have to say and respecting that some people don't respond to the same things you do. It's unfortunate that things become black and white and lines need to be drawn, but alas, the internet (and humans) have always been tribal like this.
Meanwhile, the best thing I can say is just enjoy the thing you like. These people are just going to be assholes whether you engage with them or not, so why give them a platform? Your mental health is worth more than their time - so give yourself a break.
You're welcome to come chat with me any time. :)
Thinking about 'jumping on points' for Waterloo Road. With returning and new fans I'm wondering if there's a way to catchup on the show like with Doctor Who:
Series 1 ✅
Well... yes! It's the start of the show and you can't beat the iconic opening seen so yh new fans should and could start here
Series 2 ❌
Not really? Directly continues the Tom/Lorna/Izzie storyline. The Brett stuff could work in isolation but still makes more sense to start from s1
Series 3 ❌
Nope. Continued Donte, Mika, Brett, Chlo, Tom and Davina arcs from s1/2 so you'd prolly be lost. You could start from Rachel's intro because this is also the start of the Rachel Mason era but then you'd have to understand the context of the other teachers. Bolton, Paul, Michaela etc join this season too so maybe but with the amount of storylines directly continued from the previous seasons... prolly not.
Series 4 ⛔
Maybe? The Donte and Chlo storyline and Kim and Andrew's return again works better with the s1 context. But, the Kelly family arc does start here and you could watch that without previous season's context. Not really sure.
Series 5 ✅
Yup! I watched the show from here and it made sense. The John Foster's arc is one of the best from this show and there's a lot of new characters in this season so its a great watch. The only downside is this is the end of the 'Mason era' and honestly this series hits different when you see these characters grow from s3.
Series 6 ✅
Yes. Start of the 'Fisher era' so not a lot of previous context is needed. Only downside is the Josh, Finn, Amy, Lauren era starts from s3-s5 so to see their full growth maybe not put if that's not a concern then go ahead.
Series 7 ✅
Yes again especially because it's broken up. 7a (episodes 1-10) is the 'Fisher era' post all the Bex stuff from s6 so you can start there. Or, you start from 7b (11-30) which is the Byrne era which has brand new characters and doesn't use a lot of previous seasons context. Grantly and Tom's storylines however is another situation of 'watching all the previous seasons makes this feel more emotional' but again if this isn't that deep you might as well. This is also the end of the OG Rochdale era so again, starting earlier makes the experience more enjoyable but this is subjective.
Series 8 ✅⛔
Yes... but for the wrong reasons. Mainly ignores a large chunk of s7 despite being a direct continuation. This is the Scotland era which most fans dislike because the working class Rochdale roots are gone by this point. You don't need context to understand the Scotland character's arcs including Rhiannon (she's a Rochdale character but not in s7...?). The weaker story is also behind from this season too so you can art here but it wouldn't be an authentic representation of the show IMO. Plus season 11+ continues from the Rochdale era. It's unclear whether or not the events from S8-10 are canon but unaddressed or if the show has retconned it so if you choose to start here its unlikely you'll need this to understand s11+. On a technical level yes, but I personally wouldn't recommend it.
Series 9 ✅⛔
Same as s8. Large chunks of previous season were ignored so not a lot of previous context is needed and new character storylines but again, not really ideal.
Series 10 ✅
Same as s8-9. Some underrated characters this season however like Justin and Dale so if you don't mind 1 season storylines go ahead.
Series 11 ✅
Yes. As the reboot season it does a decent job at catching up the Rochdale era. Also if you're tuning in for Preston x Kai this season is the beginning of their story so yes it's essential for the shippers!
Series 12 ❌
Seasons 11-13 are one big arc so not really. Just like s1 it makes sense to just start at the beginning
Series 13 ❌
Nope. Season 12 context is needed for this and to get season 12 you need to watch season 11. These seasons are the shortest of the show only 7 episodes long so its worth starting at the beginning.
These are just my thoughts this is not a definite guide to Waterloo Road! S1, S5, S6, and S7 for me personally are the best ways to start the show but you can do whatever you want!
I really enjoyed seeing your last post!!! It reminded me of something else that I noticed when I was younger and not really seeing LO through the eyes I am now- even when I lived LO, I noticed that Minthe’s bust size.. Might’ve changed? (I could be remembering wrong, and I’m sorry if I am!) I didn’t think on it too much back then, but it felt a lot like the “she could never measure up to Persephone”, or the “she’s nothing to worry about when it comes to Persephone”!!
But then, when Minthe was supposed to be more of a “problem,” I noticed she’d get drawn with a larger bust- or at least larger than it had been back in the earliest episodes!
This could all make absolutely no sense, (and I apologize for just rambling in your askbox!), but I watching a character’s “worthiness” be portrayed through something as simple and neutral as their chest size stuck out to me then, and sticks out to me now!! 😓)
Oh don't apologize, you're literally pointing out exactly the things we've even talked about in the ULO community !
Literally here she is in S1:
Tumblr media
And we even get a scene of her smooshing her boobs together in Episode 35 in an effort to make them seem bigger because she legit feels like Hades is pursuing the "new hotness" in the office based around their physical appearances:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
But then she conveniently goes up like 3 cup sizes when it's time for her to be cemented as the villain and suffer her fate by getting turned into a plant?
Tumblr media
I've literally seen fans grasp at straws to explain that maybe she got a boob job but then they don't realize that the story at this point has only been going on for like, 3-4 weeks at most. At best you shouldn't have to make those massive leaps to explain the inconsistent character body types. If Minthe really did get a boob job, don't you think that's something that should have been explained in the comic?
And let's be real, we all know what it's really about because it's just more of Rachel pitting women against women:
Tumblr media
What's wild though is that Rachel is vastly misinterpreting a classic image here:
Tumblr media
A lot of people look at that image of Jayne Mansfield and Sophia Loren and just immediately assume that Sophia is giving Jayne the stink eye over her outfit. And of course, we see this misinterpretation in Rachel's drawing that swaps Sophia and Jayne with Minthe and Persephone.
When in FACT what was actually going on was that Sophia spotted Jayne getting dangerously close to a wardrobe malfunction / nip slip and the camera just happened to catch her making a face that could be misinterpreted as slut-shaming.
"Yes, Paramount had organized a party for me. All of cinema was there, it was incredible. And then comes in Jayne Mansfield, the last one to come. For me, that was when it got amazing. She came right for my table. She knew everyone was watching. She sat down. And now, she was barely… Listen. Look at the picture. Where are my eyes? I'm staring at her nipples because I am afraid they are about to come onto my plate. In my face you can see the fear. I'm so frightened that everything in her dress is going to blow—BOOM!—and spill all over the table."
Ans Sophia has actually stated that she doesn't like those misinterpretations and is trying to actively distance herself from it.
"Actually, many, many times I am given this photo to autograph it. And I never do. I don't want to have anything to do with that. And also out of respect for Jayne Mansfield because she's not with us anymore."
Jayne died in 1967, only living for about 30 years, and Sophia herself is actually still around. I can imagine how disheartening it is to see people still misinterpreting a photo of two friends and colleagues especially when it's through the lens of slut-shaming an accomplished actress who is unfortunately no longer with us.
Sooo yeah all that said, I'm less inclined to believe it was Minthe getting a boob job and more inclined to believe it was more of Rachel's weird internalized misogyny picking and choosing which women are "sluts" and which ones are "victims" for dressing or being built a certain way. It's really gross when you start to notice it.
People have also pointed out how odd it is that every single character who gets into a relationship or is in a relationship by S3 seemingly morphs into copies of Hades and Persephone, which is really just more of a testament to how lazy Rachel is in her character designs. In her head she's just trying Hades and Persephone all the time but different colors, I imagine at this point the H x P relationship is the only thing that she's interested in writing/drawing about (and even that's arguably hanging on by a thread because she couldn't even let their long-awaited wedding scene have real room to breathe) so it's almost like she's defaulting to just zoning out and drawing nothing but H x P and then having her assistants color them differently based on who it's actually supposed to be.
But I digress. The body shaming and slut shaming is definitely hard-baked into LO and how it portrays its characters. Despite Rachel having written an actual comic portraying sexism in the past, she still can't seem to express her ideas around sexism, to the point of, again, saying she "didn't know sexism was that bad" until she worked on LO. Like, girl... you drew a comic about sexism before LO, what are you talking about? Is this more of you not wanting to acknowledge ANY of the work you did prior to LO, or are you telling me you didn't intend for those older works to be interpreted as sexism???
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
"I feel like female characters in general, people will be a little harsher on them and sometimes way harsher on them, and I used to be like.. before I started writing the story and like making a story I was like yeah, sexism is not that bad, and [now] I was like oh it's bad. It's quite bad [laughs], so like, I don't know, I feel like the female characters in the story don't get so much of a pass. But this isn't consistent across the board, it's not all the time." - Rachel Smythe, Girl Wonder Podcast circa 2022
Do you ever lay awake at night and think about the fact that when Steve and Danny met he thought he finally found the one person who'd stay with him?
That after his own father sends him away, Steve "realizes" that he'd never be enough but that changes when he meets Danny? He thinks that maybe, just maybe, he's enough.
But then he sees Danny with Rachel, sees that perfect little family and its hit with the realization that he'd never be a part of it. That he doesn't get to have good things in life.
When Rachel tells Danny she wants to go back to Jersey, Steve knows he'll lose him. No one stays. Why would he? There's nothing that Steve can give Danny, can't give him children, can't give him the white picket fence.
He knows Danny will leave and he doesn't say a thing, because how could he deprive him of the life he's always wante?
So he breaks into the Governor’s house instead.
I just made myself sad 😭
as evidenced by my blog I spent countless sleepless nights thinking about it 😂 i wrote a similar essay last year that even ended on the beat of Steve breaking into the governor's house
season One from Steve's POV (through McDanno lense)
(underlining the cyclical nature of s1 because it starts with Steve breaking into his father's house before he's had Danny and ends with him breaking into the Governor's house after he thinks he's lost him to Rachel coming full circle) .
I don't feel like rehashing it all especially since I have recently rambled so much about it so I'm just gonna put up a bunch of links to all the posts I made about 1x23
the GALL to look at him like this when you are cozying up to your ex, tsk, tsk
2.15 'I just feel in my heart there's still a shot, okay?'/ 1.23 'How long has this been going on? Were you ever going to tell me or...?'
How many times can the same thing break your heart? - As long as you love it.
When are you going to be willing to risk your heart? - I did.
Danny didn't buy Steve acting aloof for even a second
before he's met danny steve never stopped to think the way he was raised was wrong. his parents raised him to be strong. a warrior.
The end of Season One Love Triangle™ in memes or what happens after your boyfriend swings by your hospital room to pick up your daughter and catches you cuddled up with your baby mama
the most recent thing I've noticed while rewatching 1x23 is that Danny is totally THROWN by Steve's attitude after he returns to the HQ from the hospital.
headcanon for how it came to be that danny thought steve loved his eggs.
🧡 💚 🖤 🤍
🧡: What is a popular (serious) theory you disagree with?
I mean idk how popular or serious any of the theories in glee are alksjflds but ummm one of my go to's is always that Kurt's mom is named Katherine and not Elizabeth lol
💚: What does everyone else get wrong about your favorite character?
Okay not so much "everyone" as much as "Blaine haters" buuut I've seen people say that s1 was Kurt's most authentic self and that after he met Blaine he completely changed for the worse when that is so literally the opposite of what really happened that it makes me wonder if they like or understand Kurt as a person/character AT ALL
🖤: Which character is not as morally good as everyone else seems to think?
BRITTANY. You can peruse my anti Brittany tag for my never ending thoughts, but to keep it short. It blows my mind that there are people irl who think that Brittany releasing the sex tape of her and her (possibly underage) girlfriend without said girlfriend's knowledge is not only okay, but completely justified and a good way to "teach Santana a lesson". It makes me ill lol
🤍: Which character is not as morally bad as everyone else seems to think?
Rachel. I know she's never going to willingly give up the spotlight, and especially not without a long drawn out fight, but she does so much good and tries to help so many people but it's always overlooked in favor of a one note no nuance "selfish" label
send me some asks!
Is it me?
I don't remember Rachel and Mercedes being especially close during S1-3 but in S5, when Santana drags Rachel, they end up talking like they've both been on the receiving end of Santana's insults and like they had spent a lot of time bonding over that in high school.
Now, I know Santana was pretty brutal to Rachel but ... I don't remember her being especially vicious to Mercedes (other than convincing her that Kurt was into her in S1 and the whole "The Boy Is Mine" thing). She called her Aretha - which, sorry, that's NOT an insult.
Then, in S6, Mercedes is acting like Rachel's best friend; mentoring her, getting her an audition, trying to get her back to New York.
When did they become friends like that?
So ... is it me?
Jess Watches // Fri 27 Oct // Day 38 Synopses & Favourite Scenes
Call the Midwife (with mum) 6x04 Episode 4
Nonnatus House advertises for a new midwife, while Trixie, Sister Winifred and Tom help an expectant mother in a difficult situation.
A tough episode for expectant mums, so the chariot race was a delightful way to end it. The joy on Sister Monica Joan's face always cheers me up, and I too sneak a slice of cake when I can.
Sin huellas (No Traces) 1x03 Fugitivas
When Irene can't help the girls due to her relationship with Desi, Cata decides to return to Mexico with Ubaldo. But the police has found her trail and leaving the country becomes impossible.
Irene assuming Desi & Cata were together and Cata saying she doesn't understand why people keep thinking that. Yet in the same conversation admitting they argue like an old married couple.
Invasion S2 - Mitsuki's storyline
Mitsuki tries to communicate with the alien.
I loved the Japanese storyline in s1 and feel it could've been it's own show. This feeling only solidified further in s2. Mitsuki was such a badass in the opening scene with the molotov cocktails and had a growing potential relationship with Dr. Maya throughout the season. However, the pacing was dictated by other storylines, meaning not much forward momentum happened until the last 2 episodes. It would have been more emotionally effective had I waited for a supercut because she was only in it about 2-3 hours of the 10 episodes, 3 or 4 of which she wasn't even in, so it was spread out disjointedly over 8 weeks making it harder to stay invested. If anyone knows of a supercut, please let me know.
Dead Ringers 1x01 One
In Manhattan, twin gynecologists Elliot and Beverly Mantle frequently commit malpractice at the hospital where they work, while harboring a plan to establish their own independent birthing center.
It always surprises when women seem so determined to have a biological child, especially at the cost of their own health. More understandable in the 60's obviously, like on CTM, but not nowadays. Why not adopt and/or foster a child to give them a safe and loving environment to grow up in; Even Rachel Weisz kissing women isn't enough for me to want to continue watching. A sentence I never ever thought I wouldd type. :'(
