RWBY- Bloody Thorns Aftermath ? :)
As you can probably guess, this one is a potential follow-up to 'Upon the Raven's Bloody Thorns' from my Rosebird Parents series. More specifically exploring the immediate aftermath of the events of that story from the perspective of Ruby, Yang, Raven and Summer. In particular, dropping more hints as to Raven's time as 'The Bloodraven', Ruby showing how similar she is to Summer, and me indulging in more references/allusions to pre-90s Disney Animated movies from the Bloody Thorns, particularly The Rescuers.
I'm still rather conflicted on continuing/posting it as it's likely to partly set up an ongoing plot/story that I don't know if I want to be following, as I envisioned the Bloody Thorns to be a one-off just like the rest of my Rosebird Parents Anthology series. Of course it's also been fun to pick away at, so I'm still not exactly sure what I'm going to be doing with it.
Though here's a part I'm particularly happy with XD:
--
Raven paused, and took a very deep breath to steady herself, pinching her nose as she did. Shoved down the simultaneous urges to grab both her daughters into the tightest hug she could, and scream at them just how STUPID what they did was and ask what the flying FUCK they were thinking?! Right now, there were more important things that needed to be done.
…Gods, Raven wished Summer was here to be the actually good leader…
“Okay,” Raven started just as she drew Omen and opened a portal with a quick slash, “Yang. Grab… Connie, take her back to the house through there,” Raven gestured to the portal, “and get her set up on couch or bed and keep an eye on her. Ruby,” Raven turned to her younger daughter, “you’re going to show me where those guys were keeping you.”
“Wait a minute,” Yang suddenly spoke up, “why do I have to go back to the house and Ruby gets to go with you?” the blonde crossed her arms, looking rather petulant and clearly more than a little jealous of her little sister.
Raven was about to reply with something like ‘Because I said so’ when Ruby suddenly spoke up.
“Because you’re actually strong enough to carry Connie, duh. You really think I’m getting her through that portal with my weak, noodly nerd arms?”
Yang stared at her sister in surprise for a moment, blinking owlishly.
“Okay, yeah. That makes sense… Sorry sis,” Yang apologized while awkwardly scratching the back of her head before turning to collect the unconscious Connie, “uh… be careful out there!”
For her part, Raven was glad that neither of her girls were looking her way, as she was staring just as wide-eyed as Yang.
Honestly, her reason for taking Ruby and sending Yang home with the other girl was tied up in all her own personal hangups and because she was afraid that bringing Yang along in her currently frazzled, haggard state might be a bad idea. But instead, Ruby’s reasoning was WAY better than hers.
Raven was once again reminded how much Ruby was taking after her mother…

Ravenmore (RWBY Raven Branven centric fanfiction) My take on Rosebird
–––
I continued to be a simple observer of what was happening, but something changed still - the dream was too real, too vivid, as if I had entered into a memory. And not the subconscious decided to play jokes, as usual. And I wasn't me - because the hands I was staring at weren't mine... And most importantly, I was wearing a skirt!
I didn't even have a second to worry, and despite the fact that I tried to wake up again, I failed.
A palm, more delicate than mine, covered my tense fists - they were lying on my knees - and me-not-quite-me raised my face.
Across from me was Summer Rose, who caught my eye and smiled encouragingly. I didn't understand what was going on at all, and how do I know it's Summer Rose... Though obviously, dark red hair and silver eyes - who else could it be?
"Summer," my lips said in an unfamiliar voice, and a mixture of horror and helplessness filled my insides. "Summer, why are you so excited?"
"But of course, Raven!" Her expression was surprised, and her voice was similar to Ruby's, but the intonation was completely different. "We can give them a lot, right? How not to be excited, children are happiness!"
"I wouldn't say that, Summer," my body chuckled. "I don't think I'm ready for pregnancy right now, to be honest... With everything I'm doing for Ozpin, and with everything we've learned..."
My own fear strated to trickle in, adding to the one the body felt. What if I died in my sleep, and I got back to fuck knows where, only now in the body of an adult woman who just found out about her pregnancy? Could I leave, please, I'll do anything? And... Did she say Raven?
"Ray, I'm telling you, we can do it together..."
"We, Summer?" Raven interrupted her. I was somehow locked in the body of this Raven as the observer, apparently. "I will be giving birth, not you, so it's up to me to decide if I want this at all... Why did I tell you, even? What am I..."
"Wait," Summer shook her head, having quite a confused expression. "I thought you needed support, advice from your best friend, after all!" then her face seemed to blossom into a toothy, bratty smile. " Do you... maybe remember that bachelorette party three years ago? When our neighbor-team..."
"Yes. The accident was similar, but for some reason everybody were very happy" I felt that my face was frowning and blushing at the same time. "We then agreed that we would name our kids with reference to each other, our colors or something like that... And we were really drunk. I wasn't going to have children at that time, totally. Who with? And now... It's an accident. And we don't have time for kids, Summer."
"But things are going much better!" Summer grabbed me-not-me by both hands, pressed them to her solar plexus and peered into her eyes. "Ray, if you are afraid that something will happen to you, and there will be no one to look after them, I promise you..."
"Summer," Raven said with a kind of pent-up tired hope in her voice, not taking her gaze away from the silver eyes of her teammate. "Sum, do you understand exactly what you're proposing?"
"Of course I understand, Ray! Aren't you... Wouldn't you offer the same thing if I was..."
"I would," Raven said quickly, and squeezed Summer Rose's hands in return. "How will it be? How do... you want to do it?"
Summer blinked a little dumbfounded in response to an obvious question - it was important to understand how she wanted to formalize it, after all. Even I, in my strange position of silently watching, understood exactly what Raven was asking. It was clear that this Raven had no other partner, since she was discussing the issue of pregnancy with another woman, and it was clear from what I remembered about the kingdoms of Remnant that any child born in marriage would be the responsibility of both parents, no matter what gender they were. Indeed, the laws in different kingdoms were somewhat different, but not in this area.
Wherever these two are now, they may as well legitimize their friendship and then divorce. But something from the not-mine feeling now suggested that the offer was not entirely friendly. Such hope, though seasoned with fear - it couldn't be that simple?
"Ray... Why think about it right now?" Summer replied, and her tone was slightly confused, but a second later she let go of Raven's hands and reached for her stomach with one palm. "Better tell me what you'd like to call them!"
"If... If we follow that promise, then..." Raven placed her palm on top of Summer's, and even I felt a sudden warmth that flooded all the previous emotions of fear and uncertainty. "Gwen Branwen. Or Yen Branwen."
"Branwen?"
The surprise in Summer's voice made Raven shift her gaze to her teammate's face from the interlacement of their fingers on her stomach.
"Yes, sure," Raven grinned and reached out with her free palm to cup Summer's cheek. Summer nuzzled it with her already familiar bratty smile and then pressed even closer with her own hand, continuing to dazzle us with a smile. "Or did you want to give them your last name? I'm afraid you're going to carry this baby yourself for this kind of thing, Sum."
"Don't be silly," Summer laughed loudly, pushed our palm away from her cheek and reached for our stomach once more. "You're still too young to hear me, but know this. I, Summer Rose, will be your best aunt, my little raven."
Everything suddenly froze.
The image faded, and the surroundings began to burn away again, just like in the beginning of this dream... So it's, like, a sequel nightmare, or what? Wow, do I have the widest imagination...
I should've understood then that something was wrong with her proposal.
Someone else's thought appeared in my mind, and it was that Raven's voice, once again.
And then I remembered everything that preceded this dream.

So ya girl failed miserably at taking part in the frostbyte week when she promised to, so to compensate I'm joining ROSEBIRD WEEK! And of course I'm starting with the freaking angst, because this little fic is for day 3: Gried/Regret
Hope y'all enjoy it.
Of all her journeys in these past couple of years, Ruby Rose found the trek back to Patch to be the most difficult stretch. Not because she was being hunted, not because the weather was foul, not because she got lost. But because of where she was going, and why.
She was returning to the place where her journey began, that lonely gravestone overlooking the forests below, and for once the journey was peaceful. There had been no accidents, no attacks, only a quiet and all too lonely trek through the woods...just so she could say goodbye to her mom.
So when she stepped out of the treeline, she was surprised to find that she wasn’t the only one there; perched atop her mother’s grave was a single black bird with red eyes. It looked at her curiously, but made no motion to leave.
Ruby was slow and cautious in her approach, not wanting to provoke the bird. Thankfully it did not seem to mind her much, only caring to give the most minimal of glances in her direction once she had stepped close to the gravestone.
“Hey there, little guy,” she tried to greet it, to no response, “are you here to talk to her too?”
The bird cawed at her, but did not move.
“It’s just that...I was expecting to do this alone,” no response. Okay, guess she’s gonna have to do this with some extra company then.
She sighed and slumped to her knees, but tried to keep a positive attitude. A skill that she had more than mastered after these past few years.
“I guess I could use some company,” she commented casually, “so…did you know her?”
The raven looked at her funny, but did not respond.
“I guess not,” Ruby shrugged, “well, she was my mom, and she was the best mom anyone could ask for. She was sweet, and kind, and brave. She would bake us cookies, and then go fight giant monsters,” she couldn’t help but smile as those old memories came back to her, “she was incredible.”
Until other memories came flooding too.
“Even when bad people tried to take her away, even when they tried to make her as bad as them…even then she kept fighting. She fought because she wanted to make the world a safer place,” she could still hear that voice, completely distorted, but still hers, “for me, for Yang...for all of us.”
Fingernails dug into her palms, and her eyes burned with tears she refused to shed. She was just talking about her. She hadn’t even said what she needed to say, she couldn’t start crying now.
She hadn’t realized that the bird was staring at her now, studying her intently as if it could understand every word she had said.
“I…I think you’d like her,” she spoke to the raven, trying to bring back some levity.
The bird seemed to finally have realized it was intruding - or more realistically just grew bored of her - and flew away, cawing a couple of times on its way out. Leaving Ruby alone with her mother.
A hand traced over the engravings on the stone. The symbol of a rose, her mother’s emblem, and also her own. Under it was her name, Summer Rose, and the words “Thus Kindly I Scatter”. Ruby had read those words to exhaustion, ran her hand over those engravings until she worried she might cause them to fade away, she had come to this grave to speak to her mother more times than she could have counted.
She knew her mother hadn’t been buried under that stone, she knew her body had never been recovered, but she could never have dreamed of what had happened to her, even in her worst nightmares. But even though her body wasn’t there, that single stone still brought her comfort, and she still came here for a reason.
“Hey, mom, it’s been a while,” she greeted, voice weak, “a lot happened since we last talked. Been to Mistral, Atlas, Vacuo, even outside space and time for a while,” she forced herself to chuckle at that one, “we met some new people, some good, some bad...most good, and we even made some friends too.”
Her hand shifted and she fidgeted with the hem of her skirt.
“I’m a huntress now, thought you’d like to know that. I also learned about the maidens, and the relics...and Salem. I know you probably didn’t want me to get involved in any of this, but once I knew what was at stake I couldn’t just sit back and let others suffer,” she tried to breathe, tried to center herself and calm down a little, but her breath was shaky, “I guess you would know how that feels...that’s why you kept going on missions, right? You couldn’t just sit back and let it happen.”
“I hope…,” no that wasn’t the right word, “...I think you’d be proud of us, mom.”
She hadn’t noticed when the tears had started, but she could feel them now, rolling down her cheeks and landing on the stone below. She also hadn’t noticed that the bird had returned.
“I know…I know you’re not really here. I know your body is out there, getting toyed with by Salem,” she flinched at the terrible memories that assaulted her, of her mother’s eyes staring from inside a beast’s maw, “but that thing isn’t you. My mom died trying to make the world a better place, she died protecting her family. My mom…” her hands were shaking, her vision was blurry and she sobbed, “my mom isn’t a monster! No matter what Salem does.”
Behind her stood the raven, large and menacing with her red armor, and a sword hanging from her side, though her posture was far from threatening. Tears that she had refused to shed for years now streamed uncontrollably down her face. One hand covered her mouth, trying to muffle any sobs that might try to escape it, and the other reached for the girl before her, quivering barely an inch above her shoulder.
She wanted to comfort her, show her that she wasn’t alone, but she couldn’t, not after all those horrible things she had done.
“I...I have to say goodbye now, mom,” Ruby continued, wiping her tears on the back of her sleeves, “for good. We’re going to fight Salem soon, and I don’t know if I’ll be able to come back, but I promise that no matter what happens…,” trembling hands clenched into fists, and her voice found the strength it had lost, “we won’t let her win! We’ll put your body to rest, and we’ll stop her no matter what! I know how powerful she is, but I also know that we can stop her, that we can make the world a safer place. And then...and then your sacrifice won’t have been in vain!”
The wind blew through her hair, the trees rustled behind her, Ruby sniffled, but there was no response. She knew there wouldn’t be any, but the silence was still heavy on her. It dragged on and on, allowing her fears and anxieties to return, to begin to dig away at what little confidence she had left. But before she was allowed to crumble again, the raven spoke.
“You sound just like her.”
Ruby had heard those words before, spoken by that same voice. Though the first time it had been stained by disdain and mockery, now it shook and trembled under the weight of soul crushing regret.
This time it sounded like grief.
She turned around to see her, to look the raven in the eye, but she was already gone, leaving behind only the silence, and a single black feather, slowly falling to the tear stained ground.

Would you have any rosegarden fic recs? Preferably ones that build off of canon? Or whatever happens to be good. You seemed like the person to ask ^^
Oh! I'll be honest, I'm very flattered you think I'm a good person to ask for rosegarden fic recs, though I must admit these days I don't read a whole lot of fanfiction outside of one shots.
That being said, I've taken some time to look back on what I have read, and I'd say the best I can recommend is @xstonehill rosegarden fics, as I find they have the best understanding of their relationship in canon and what makes it such an interesting dynamic to explore (as they've also written a lot of fantastic meta analysis of them too)
Snowflakes Dreams and Happy Endings is a one shot that takes place during vol6 after the Apathy arc.
Another Rosegarden oneshot that they wrote which was originally an unfinished chapter of their other fic
Till We Have Faces is a 13 chapter completed fic that builds off of canon, being post Atlas arc with Salem having captured Ruby and Oscar, a general favourite in the rosegarden community as a whole, and for good reason.
I also really like the few rosegarden fics by @teethhunter too, mainly because I like how they explore the feral, angsty side of Ruby's character.
100 breaths which takes place during vol8, with the reunion of Ruby and Oscar, which honestly might be one of my favourite rosegarden oneshots ever.
Undefined and Unspoken a oneshot that takes place after the end of RWBY, with Ruby and Oscar travelling Remnant together.
Chaos is the Prize a 16 chapter fic that takes place post Atlas arc. This one's the most canon divergent of the list, and it's incomplete. But. I still can't not recommend it. After Ruby kills Ironwood, she runs away and ends up being taken under Raven's wing and joining her tribe. I just really like the idea of exploring Ruby and Raven's possible mentorship (and I admit being partial to the "Raven is Ruby's dad theory" as a Rosebird shipper only adds to this). The rosegarden takes a while to come in to play, and fair warning, this is a pretty angsty fic. There's a lot of fluffy sweet rosegarden fics out there, this is not one of them. BUT THAT'S WHY I HAVE TO RECOMMEND IT OKAY
And then finally there's @trailofclementines Lost Parallax a 13 chapter currently ongoing fic that's a canon compliant/canon divergent time travel AU, Oscar unlocks a time travel semblance after Ironwood shoots him in vol7 and goes back to before the FoB switching places with his younger self (basically he's in vol1 but still 15), with Ozpin no longer in his head, plans to attend Beacon and work with Ozpin to stop the FoB. I'm very fond of this one, though the rosegarden here is a part of the story, it's not the focus, and it is deliciously slowburn, which I love because that's how the series treats romance as well. It also avoids a lot of power fantasy tropes I see in time travel AU fanfics I've read before, which I really appreciate, and there's some great Ozdad content too with Oscar and Ozpin meeting face to face. It's just. A Really Good Time. I'd say this one's the most fun and wholesome of the whole list.
Hope you enjoy!

RWBY Grimm Guardians Arc 4: Re-Bonding In Mistral Ch 1
I’m back! With the first chapter of Arc 4: Re-Bonding in Mistral a.k.a. The FUCKING ARC THAT I’VE BEEN DYING TO WRITE SINCE I STARTED THIS THING!!!!
Now then, this arc is split into two parts. First part is Vol 5, which will be chapters 1-9. Second part is Vol 6, which will be chapters 10-17.
Some of the chapters WILL be semi-original (i.e.: Chapters 1, 4, 8, and 9). With that out of the way, let’s start.
This first chapter is, obviously, Ruby, Qrow, Oscar, Evergreen, Summer, and team JNPR returning to Patch for some rest.
As usual, please give constructive criticism and enjoy!
Disclaimer: Surprise. Still own nothing.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(4:48 PM)
(In Patch…)
“Yes, Tai. We’re almost there.” Summer said into the scroll. “Trust me. We’re only a few minutes away.” The group looked at Ruby’s mother as said woman groaned. “Taiyang, for the last time. We’re almost home. Trust me, please.” The former STRQ leader said. “Thank you. See you then.” Summer then hung up, before letting out a sigh, “Was he really like this? Even back then?” Qrow nodded, “After you...legally died, yeah. That only got intensified with the Fall of Beacon.”
Ruby looked at her scroll, before smiling, “Yang’s made it to Mistral.” Summer and Qrow both sighed with relief, with the former saying, “Thank the maker.” “Has she encountered any of your friends yet?” The former bandit asked. The red cloaked teenager shook her head, “Not from what I know. She might encounter Weiss and her mom when searching for her own mom.” The former STRQ leader sighed, “I hope THAT goes well.”
Qrow nodded in agreement, knowing that Raven would probably be stubborn. He then looked at his former leader, “How are your eyes doing?” “Still good. Nothing else’s changed...yet.” She responded. Both of Summer’s eyes had Grimm-like red sclera with her initial silver eyes, though neither had shown any signs of pain. Summer even used her silver eyes and that remained unchanged. Right now, she was instructed by Anna Pine to observe them and their behavior for the time being.
After a few more minutes, the group arrived at the Xiao-Long-Rose Family Home, which Ruby proceeded to walk right in, shouting, “Dad? We’re home!” Upon hearing her voice for the first time in a while, Zwei immediately rushed out from who knew where and almost tackled the red cloaked teenager to the floor, yeeping and licking her cheek as he did so. “Missed you too, Zwei!” Ruby laughed, before the corgi leapt off and ran towards the rest of the group.
Summer picked him up, scratching her ear with a smile. “How’ve you been, hun?” She asked, receiving another yip. Chuckling, the former STRQ leader nodded and gave the corgi a brief nuzzle, “Good. Would you like to meet some new friends?” Zwei nodded, before the taller woman brought him over to Oscar and Evergreen. Jaune, Pyrrha, Ren, and Nora looked at Ruby and Qrow with understandably confused expressions.
“While it’s easy for him to understand us, Summer can understand and speak with Zwei due to her semblance.” The former bandit chuckled. Pyrrha tilted her head, “Does she remember that?” Ruby sighed with a disheartened expression, “She does not, along with most of her childhood still. And she’s understandably frustrated with it.” While Oscar was having a genuinely enjoyable time getting to know the corgi, Evergreen seemed...slightly intimated.
And while Summer noticed it, she didn’t question it, figuring the headmaster possibly had a phobia of canines...or allergy.
With that, she set Zwei down, who then rushed back to Ruby. The group was then greeted by a VERY exhausted Taiyang. “Gods, Tai.” Qrow sighed with a smirk. “Did you run a marathon when you heard we were home?” The blonde man said, “Just hug me, you ass.” as he was catching his breath. The taller of the two wrapped his arms around Taiyang with a chuckle, with said man sighing, “I missed you, dude.” Qrow nodded, “Same here. I hope everything was somewhat peaceful here.”
“Mostly, yeah.” Taiyang nodded, wiping the sweat from his forehead. He lifted his youngest daughter off the floor in a hug, smiling, “How’s my baby girl doing?” “Healing well.” Ruby chuckled, hugging her father in return. The blonde man then set her down, before noticing a couple new faces. “I see I got two new friends to meet.” He said. Summer smiled, “And adopt. But only as a godfather, according to Anna.” She then introduced Oscar, explained that he was Anna Pine’s daughter.
Taiyang nodded, “Your friend who’s a doctor in Mistral, right?” His former leader nodded with a chuckle, “Same one.” Ruby and Jaune then introduced Pyrrha, who, along with the rest of team JNPR, was very amused by the blonde man. “Ah, is she your girlfriend, young man?” Taiyang asked Jaune, both teasingly and seriously. Jaune and Pyrrha blushed furiously, before the younger blonde stuttered, “We’re...still kinda trying to figure that out. Taking slow steps for now.”
Everyone gave them disbelieved looks. Summer rubbed her eyes, before saying, “Let’s head inside. I’m sure you all want some dinner, yeah?” Pyrrha and Jaune both mouthed “Thank you.” at the elder Rose, before receiving a comforting nod. Soon, the teenagers went inside the building, along with Zwei and Evergreen. Taiyang and the headmaster gave each other a recognized nod and a small smile. “I’ll explain as much as I can with you privately.” The while haired man said, heading to the building.
After the group went inside, Qrow pointed at his former teammates, before heading in as well. Summer sighed, knowing that the former bandit wanted her and Taiyang to talk in person. She then turned, “Tai-...” She was cut off and caught off guard as the blonde man hugged her tightly. “I missed you...so fucking much…” Taiyang said, his voice cracking and tears staining the taller woman’s shoulder as he buried his face into it. Something inside the woman cracked, before she tightened her hold on him.
“I missed you too, Taiyang.” Summer whispered. She began rubbing the blonde man’s back as he choked out, “I...I thought I lost you-...!” “Tai… Look at me…” The taller woman said, briefly breaking the embrace and holding the blonde man’s face in her hands. “I’m here. Okay? I’m here and alive…” It took a few moments for Taiyang to process what was happening, but he eventually nodded, sniffing and wiping away his tears. “Sorry…” He mumbled.
The former STRQ leader gave a reassuring smile, before kissing Taiyang’s forehead, “It’s okay, hun. I’d react in the same way in your position…” The two then looked at each other, before slowly kissing one another. One kiss turned to two. Then to three. And then five, before the couple gently broke the kiss for air. After a few moments of silence, Taiyang wrapped her arms around his former leader, sighing, “I missed you, Sum.” Summer hummed with a small smile, “You too, Tai.”
He then pulled back and looked at the woman’s eyes, “They’ve changed.” Nodding, Summer said, “Yeah. They’re fine for now though. No pain.” “Good. They look nice.” The blonde man said. The former STRQ leader blushed and smiled, playfully scratching the man’s beard, “Thank you. You should keep the beard.” Taiyang grinned, rubbing the back of his head, “It looks nice, yeah?” The two then shared a laugh, before Taiyang explained to Summer what she had missed. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (Meanwhile, inside the living room...)
“They look happy.” Evergreen hummed, sipping his cup of coffee as he looked out the window. Ruby and Qrow nodded in agreement, though the former bandit then mumbled, “Gods, I hope Tai and Rae can have a somewhat tolerant reunion.” The headmaster looked at the red-eyed man, “Does he know the truth on why she left?” “No. Hell, I’m not sure if he’d even understand.” The former bandit answered. “Then again… I was like that too until Raven told me herself. So who knows?”
“The same might happen with Yang.” His niece said. “She wants to believe that her mother left for a just cause...and she and I trust Mom immensely.” Ruby then sighed, “She wants to hear the truth from her though, rather than someone else.” Qrow nodded, “I can understand that.” The young leader bit her lip. She wasn’t sure if she should say this, but decided to do so anyway.
Hesitantly, she said, “She...wants to be able to call her ‘Mom’...” “She wants to...view both Summer and Raven as our moms.” She explained.
Qrow turned to his niece, shocked. “I wanna be able to call your sister...‘Mom’ as well...and view her as my other mom when I meet her too.” Ruby said hesitantly, grabbing onto her cloak. Suddenly, Qrow felt his initial shock turn into joy as he smiled, ruffling the red cloaked teenager’s hair, “I hope that happens. I really do, kiddo.”
He was sure it’d mean the world to both Summer and Raven if Yang and Ruby called them both their moms. And he prayed that would happen soon. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- And that’s it for the first chapter! I hope you all enjoyed it.
Now, I know I showed Taiyang x Summer here, but...Rosebird is going to be the main ship. I just...need to try to do that in a realistic way.
Next, we’ll be seeing what Weiss and Willow are up to...as they unintentionally meet a certain bandit leader.

Rosebird Week 2019: Day 1
Hi, I’m starting this late because of real-life interfering and this one-shot ended up being harder to write than I expected. This resulted in the following one-shots being delayed as well but I’m working to catch up.
Also, these one-shots will be set in the same universe as the RWBY story that I’m planning and will be considered canon with it.
Day 1: First Meeting
Summer is excited (and nervous) about attending Beacon and meets the most beautiful woman ever.
Meanwhile, Raven wouldn’t admit that the clumsy, hooded girl who crashed into her has lovely eyes.
-----
“Oh my Gods!” Summer Rose glanced out the huge windows excitedly, watching as the airship that she was traveling in approached Beacon Academy, the white-hooded girl’s enthusiasm increasing with each passing second. How could she not be excited? This was the greatest Huntsman Academy in all of Remnant! They only accepted the best of the best, their graduates often going on to become living legends. Heck, even the professors were often legendary Hunters themselves!
A sudden thought struck her. “Oh, my Gods, what if I’m not ready?” the silver-eyed girl frantically whispered to herself as her mind conjured all sorts of nasty scenarios where she ended up either dead or expelled, or worst still, got whoever she would be teamed up with killed or expelled. Unbeknown to Summer, her Aura was reacting to her inner distress, and a small gale blew through the ship. The other future students stared with a mixture of surprise, confusion, and awe as red and white rose petals manifested from the hooded girl’s cloak and swirled around her form on the wind.
Summer was unaware of this as she tried to calm down her anxious thoughts and put her worries to rest with some self-reassurance. ‘It’s fine, everything will be okay. I may haven’t attended a combat school, or any kind of school for that matter and my upbringing wasn’t in any way normal, but my fighting skills were good enough to impress Professor Ozpin into admitting me one year early.’ Her expression turned into one of determination.
‘Besides, Aurore, Ro, Dodger, and Olive also believe in me. I’ve never let them down before and I won’t start doing it now!’
It was then that Summer noticed that all the other passengers had their eyes on her. Wondering what they were all her eyes widened when she noticed the petals fluttering around herself, the accompanying wind now a gentle breeze to match her no longer frantic emotions. Summer blushed a deep red and pulled up her hood to hide her face, her mortification increasing as the majority of those watching recovered from their shock and chuckled, except for one tall, muscular blond guy who gave Summer a look of sympathy.  Luckily, her embarrassment didn’t last long as the ship finally docks, and the students can disembark.
Summer makes a quick escape by manipulating the wind to give herself a boost in speed. Unfortunately, since she had her hood up over her head while her eyes were focused on the ground as to not make eye contact, her field of vision was impaired so it was no surprise that she did not see the dark-haired girl right in her path.
The white-hooded girl squeaked as she crashed into someone, who fortunately was skilled enough to not be plowed over, though her face ended up pressed against a pair of soft, firm masses. Before she could try to figure out what these orbs were, Summer felt a hand grasping the back of her cloak and pulling her away, their strength great enough to even lift her off the ground.
“What are you doing?” The female voice was slightly deep, resounding with strength and annoyance.
Looking up, the first thing that Summer saw were the most beautiful eyes she had ever seen. They were the color of a red sunset and seemed to almost glow with their own light, boring into her soul with their piercing gaze. It was another moment before Summer stopped focusing on the eyes to take in the rest of the woman’s appearance. Her face was slightly round with a sharp chin, a cute nose and full lips set in an annoyed frown that matched the look of her eyes; her skin was a light color but not as pale as Summer’s, her long ebony hair tied up in a ponytail, styled in a way that it resembled a raven’s plumage; she was very tall with a muscular but curvaceous body, wide hips and a pair of large breasts (and Summer blushed deeper than before as she quickly realized that was what she had faceplanted); she was wearing a black-and-red outfit with samurai-like armor, a sword hanging from her hip. In short, she was the most beautiful woman that Summer had ever encountered.
“Hey! Are you deaf?”
Summer was jolted out of the spell she was under and realized that she had forgotten that the dark beauty had asked her a question. “Oh, sorry.” She mumbled but that seemed to make the other woman angrier.
“Sorry? You almost knocked me into the ground then just stare at me like an idiot and all you have to say is sorry?”
“Um, well…” Summer wasn’t very good at talking to new people and this girl’s attitude was making her more nervous and she blurted out the first thing that came to mind. “I really didn’t mean to put my face in your boobs!” ‘Idiot! Why did I say that?’
The tall, dark beauty looked at Summer like she couldn’t believe what has just come out of her mouth. The shock was so great that her grip on the back of Summer’s cloak loosed and the smaller girl was dropped back on the ground, who thankfully didn’t fall on her butt. The dark girl just kept staring at Summer with a mixture of annoyance and disbelief.
“Geez Rae, we haven’t been here for a day and you already have girls wanting your goods. I’m so jealous!”
The two women turned to look at the voice’s owner, a young man about their age, his hair, eyes and skin tone the same as the taller girl’s. He was wearing a white shirt that was half tucked in his black slacks and a ratty, red cape draped over his shoulders. Summer could see that he was also a sword user, the handle of his blade visible over his shoulder. And while his appearance was similar the dark woman’s, his face was instead set in a playful, teasing smirk.
While Summer looked at him with curiosity, ‘Rae’ appeared to be more exasperated and annoyed than before. “Shut up, Qrow.” She glared at who was obviously her brother though Qrow seemed unaffected by the burning eyes. “Aw, come on, sis.” teased Qrow. “No need to be embarrassed! You’re very good-looking so it’s not strange that people would want a closer look.”
“Qrow, I’m serious! If you don’t shut up, I’ll kill you!” He just chuckled softly with that teasing smirk, not looking worried at his sister’s death threat.
Summer let out a giggle at she watched the siblings interact, remembering how Ro and Dodger liked to tease Dawn all the time. Her giggles caught the twins’ attention, ‘Rae’ switching her glare to Summer while Qrow chose to introduce herself.
“Hey,” he gave a wave. “Name’s Qrow, and I see that you’ve met my big sister, Raven.”
“I’m Summer, nice to meet you both.” ‘Yay, I’m making friends!’ Qrow nodded. “Likewise,” then his smirk widened as he motioned to his still scowling sister. “And Raven feels the same but she’s too shy to say it.”
“Augh!” shouted Raven exasperatedly and stomped away as Qrow and Summer laughed.
----------
‘Stupid Qrow, can’t go one day without getting on my nerves! One day I’ll finally lose my patience and kill him for real.’ Thought Raven as she stood at the back of the crowd waiting for the opening speech. The crowd gave her spot a wide margin, most likely intimidated by the angry energy that Raven was emanating. Good, she wasn’t in the mood to talk to anyone else today.
As she subtly watched the entrance while she quietly seethed, Raven saw her brother and the hooded girl come in. They exchanged a few parting words before the girl headed for a spot closer to the stage while Qrow looked around for a moment until he spotted Raven and headed towards her. Raven glared as he approached but, as always, it was ineffective. Immunity to Raven’s patented death glare was one of the advantages of being related to her.
“Hey, sis,” His greeting was met with angry silence. “Don’t tell me you’re still angry?” Raven’s glare intensified. “Come on, it was just some teasing! Your girlfriend thought it was funny.”
“She’s not my girlfriend!” That managed to break Raven’s silence. “Just some clumsy girl that bumped into me because she wasn’t paying attention. What is she even doing here? She looks like she’s, I don’t know, twelve or something.”
“Sixteen, actually.”
“Really? She was short for her age then. What else did you to talk about?” By this point, Raven’s anger was momentarily put aside as her curiosity was piqued.
“Mostly about our weapons, girl is a bit of a nerd about them and was interested in Harbinger. She then showed me her own and it was really impressive.” Qrow was himself a weapons enthusiast and crafter, so he clearly was happy about talking with someone with similar interests. “She also told that she got early admittance because she impressed the Headmaster.”
Raven’s eyebrow raised, interested. “Really, what did she do? Defeat a Beringle with her bare hands?”
“Don’t know, she said it was personal but that’s beside the point. If she managed to get into Beacon early then she must have some skills, apparent clumsiness aside.”
“Well, whatever we did to get in early doesn’t concern us or our mission, so don’t get too attached since, if she manages to graduate and become a Huntress, we might one day end up having to kill her.”
Qrow’s smirk faded into a frown as he was reminded of their mission. He hadn’t been happy when the Tribe’s leader told them to become students to learn how to counteract Hunters and make the Tribe stronger. Neither had Raven for that matter despite her harsh personality and love of fighting. She did not like killing people without a good reason, but the Leader’s word was the law on the Tribe so Raven resigned herself to completing the mission.
Qrow scoffed. “Whatever, I’m still going to talk to Sum later and no one from the Tribe is her to keep tabs on us, so what they don’t know won’t hurt them.”
“Ugh fine!” Raven said exasperatedly, knowing that she couldn’t stop him anyway. “Do what you want! Just don’t start flirting with her.”
“Nah, don’t worry about it. She’s not my type anyway, even though she’s cute.” Qrow’s smirk was back as well as the teasing. “So, you don’t have to worry about me stealing your girlfriend.”
“Qrow!”
But before Raven could try to strangle him, Professor Ozpin cleared his throat to indicate that he was about to give his speech. So, Raven just settled for sending burning glares her brother’s way, but he just answered each of them with a smirk. Finally deciding to just ignore him, Raven focused on Ozpin’s words of ‘encouragement’, though she caught sight of a familiar white cloak near the front.
She found herself blushing as she remembered how the girl crashed into her chest but tried to shove these thoughts into a far corner of her mind as they would only distract her from the mission.
Though she admitted to herself (but to no one else, ESPECIALLY not Qrow), those silver eyes were quite beautiful.
----------
Yeah, I gave Summer Airbending as her Semblance, so I don’t want to hear any complaints! As for the comments about Summer having never gone to school, those are part of the backstory that I gave her for my story and it won’t be revealed until I have it posted. The same goes for the people that Summer mentioned.
Edit: In the part where Summer mentions the people who believe in her, I changed one of the names from 'Dawn' to Aurore (formerly it was Roxie) because I liked it better (and it means 'dawn' anyway).

rosebird au,,, where summer is raven's first kiss,, (does this count as an au?)
They were hanging out in the Beacon Gardens under one of the big Quercus trees. Raven was reading from her Grimm Studies book, quizzing Summer for their test the next day. Taiyang and Qrow had gone off to do “boy stuff” as they said (Raven suspected that meant they were running off to play video games and shirk their homework), so they were almost perfectly alone. Raven felt Summer’s eyes on her and she looked up to see her kneeling next to her.
“What?” Raven asked. She gestured to the text book. “You’re the one who wanted to study, Rose, so why are you just…staring…at me…” Summer’s eyes were trained on her mouth. She moved closer.
“May I kiss you?” she asked, voice soft. She was close enough now that Raven could see almost-white flecks in her silver eyes. Raven’s breath hitched and she nodded. Summer moved slowly, almost as though she was trying not to startle her. Raven couldn’t bring herself to move towards her even as her brain screamed at her to just close the distance. Just as she thought it would be unbearable to wait any longer, Summer finally kissed her.
It was gentle, barely even a brush of the lips at first. Raven’s eyes fluttered and she cupped Summer’s face to pull her closer and kiss her harder, almost causing her to lose her balance. Summer pulled away first and she smiled brightly at Raven’s flushed face. Raven averted her eyes.
“That was…my first kiss,” she mumbled. Summer’s face lit up even more, if that was even possible. She kissed her again.
“I’m happy it was me, then.”

Rwby-party talks stupidly about ships
Well not stupidly on purpose lmfao but still
and I’ll probably die talking about poly ships so they’re just mono ships
Bumbleby (Blake x Yang):
I’m not going to lie. Honestly, I’ve fallen out of love of this ship. I didn’t like it at first, then it quickly became my favorite, but honestly, All That Matters kinda soured their relationship for me.  Like it wasn’t the song it’s self but just the realization of how shitty their situation was, and like.... If I’m going to be honest, if I heard that from the perspective of a girl singing about a guy, I’d hate it. It’s the way too common “Bad boy” song basically spun for them, and it’s just not something I’m into with ships. BLAKE WHY U A BADBOY  At the same time though I died at the first ep when they interacted lmfao. It’s a ship I’ll always love and be passionate about, and is my favorite ship out of all of them in RWBY,  but man does it have it’s problems. Not that every ship has to be perfect by any means, but still.
Renora (Ren x Nora):
Two best friends that have known each other for years falling in love with each other is something I cannot fuckin even DEAL WITH ITS PERFECT THEY’RE PERFECT
White Rose (Ruby x Weiss):
Never really liked this ship all that much. I don’t hate it (I used to cuz it was the most popular ship but now I see all the others just as much lmfao and I was the “anti-what’s popular” person when I was younger. While it’s cute and fun to see them together it just doesn’t click as a ship to me. It seems like RT ships it though tbh lately lol
Blacksun (Blake x Sun):
Blacksun has a special place in my heart but I feel similar about it as I do with Bumbleby. Blake needs to work on herself lol.  I’m not gonna lie I was part of the group that hated how Sun followed her and I wish it was talked about between them. Stalking someone after their stalking boyfriend stalked them and hurt someone they cared deeply for should’ve had more consequences. However I also wish the fact that she slapped him was also talked about between them as well. It was really nice to see that Sun was really just after making her feel better, and I get the premise that sometimes you need help rather you want it or not, but I just kinda wish those things were touched upon. I still like the ship though lol, and the past is the past. I just mentioned it cuz it was a huge hang up for me and shipping them
Monochrome (Blake x Weiss):
I’ve never really been fond of ships where one of the characters used to be a bigot to the kind of people the other character was, so this one never really sailed for me, but I do like their interactions a lot. I hate to say that too, as it kinda implies I don’t trust Weiss, which is not the case at all.
Lancaster (Ruby x Jaune):
I’m going to regret admitting this but this was like the first ship I had in the show lmfao. I really thought these two were going to end up together in the first few episodes before Pyrrha stole my Jaune’s heart.  A ship with them together would be awesome tbh. I feel like they really play off each other well, and are the best of friends. Jaune can be such an awesome guy and the show did a great job of showing how close of friends they are and how beautiful their friendship is. Taking that to a relationship would be fine by me, HOWEVER, I like them way more as friends than as a ship. Having close friends like that is so important. I just love their interactions as friends more than if it was a shippy thing.
Arkos (Jaune x Pyrrha):
Original OTP RIP ME
Honestly I love it but the more I think about it the more it falls from my favorite ship lol. I don’t know why, but I just kinda dislike it the more I think about it.
RoseGarden (Ruby x Oscar):
Honestly this ship has warmed on me. I still don’t like it cuz the whole Ozpin thing, but I feel like without that it does have the potential of being a cute ship. However like with Lancaster I like them as friends way better.
Nuts n’ Dolts (Ruby x Penny):
To be honest this was a ship I wasn’t into until like way after she died. (The RWBY chibi ep just like REALLY got to me man) I really feel like they’re adorable together and I wish there were more canon time with them together before Penny was gone ;~;
Cloqwork (Ozpin x Qrow):
HARDEST OTP TO SEE SINK ALJFKELAJ: I shipped these two the second Qrow said “All those missions, all the times I’m away in some far off place, it’s been for Ozpin,” cuz I thought that was gay as shit. With the recent eps I”m regretting that lmfao. Knowing that Oz probably didn’t even trust whatever’s going to be revealed in today’s ep with Qrow, someone who has been loyal to him since like day 1, is going to be major OOF. Honestly though this became one of my favorite ships when Oz was in his last body. I loved these two so much. How much Qrow stood by him and defended him (I am going to regret this after today’s ep aren’t I)  Obviously with Oscar this ship is now sunk but yeah.
Tai Kwon Qrow (Tai x Qrow):
Can I talk about this ship name for a sec I love it Time for the first trash ship on our list lmfao.
I love these two together. I know they’re supposed to be bros but man I just ship it so much. I have no reason to other than seeing some good shipping pics (and frankly that one rwby chibi ep where they were arguing like a married couple RT PLZ)
Disabler (Yang x Mercury):
I don’t know what it is, but I just feel like these two would hit it off if Mercury wasn’t a bad guy lol. They have a similar feeling to me, like Mercury is the Yang of the baddies is that makes sense. So I think they could work together.
Reading Rainbow (Ilia x Blake): Okay can I talk about THIS ship name for a sec it’s perfect This became one of my favorite ships very quickly, when Ilia was redeemed. I was hoping she’d kinda take the place for Blake with the ‘new” white fang thing they’re doing, but it looks like it’s her dad doing it.  That’s okay though, Ilia had a bangin new outfit in the first ep of Vol 6 and looked amazing and how she was reacting to Blake and just akejf;aljfekal;jk I can’t handle these two I want to see this be canon as much as i want Bumbleby to be
Rosebird (Summer x Raven):
I don’t know which one of you heckers started me on this ship but man JAKLFJekls;fjekl;sjak;lf  Literally no canon interaction but I just like Poly STRQ So much the thought of them all being one big happy fuckin family was awesome how DARE YOU RWBY. SO WHAT IS SUMMER WAS DEAD FROM LIKE DAY ONE
Noahs Ark (Neptune x Jaune):
I think this one’s a lovely ship with how enamored Jaune seemed to be of Neptune and how cool he thinks he is, lol. I at least think it can develop from there.
Martial Arcs (Ren x Jaune):
Just RWBY chibi got me to ship this like BIG TIME They act like a married couple in that show all the time lol.
Sea Monkeys (Sun x Neptune):
Honestly I wish Neptune would figure out that his compulsive urge to flirt with women is just internalized homophobia and marry sun already
(Okay I’m joking but still I love this ship to bits and pieces)
Ladybug (Ruby x Blake):
This one has a special place in my heart as well. While I do love bumbleby, I love this one too. I think Ruby and Blake’s personalities really compliment each other. I just wish they interacted more tbh, it just doesn’t seem like they do that often. Hopefully there’s more of that.
Freezerburn (Yang x Weiss):
Didn’t really have too many feelings about this until the reunion they had and I started to ship it, lol. Not something I fawn over but is a good ship nonetheless
Flown North (Qrow x Summer):
OOF This ship kills me and it came out of nowhere. Once again, no canon interaction between these two shown right now, but man I ship it hard.
Would I want it to be canon? ABSOLUTELY NOT
Sienna x me:
1000/10 best ship
Also send in more and I’ll comment on them!

RWBY: From One Stranger to Another
(SOMETHING THAT ISN’T ROSE GARDEN RELATED!? WHAAAAT!?!?!? Now its Rosebird instead. But yeah I had a lot of inspiration from the latest episode. Its feelsy and a bit gay so read at your own risk) (Rated A for Angst)
Between the darkened shadows of the night, moonbeams fell through the canopy, leaving specks of light along the forest floor. And among the gentle winds and chirping of crickets, there was the piercing sound of leaves and twigs crunching under boots.
A woman, clad in red and black, holding a sword at her hip, walked along the path leading deeper and deeper into the heart of the forest. Growing up she had always known the forests of Mistral, with its tall trees and thick greenery. But they were wilds, and not a safe place for the faint of heart. Grim crawled freely, and killed as they pleased, while in Patch, the forests were quiet, safer, and dare she say… peaceful. As much as danger seemed to follow her, and as much as she felt the duty to return to it, she admitted liking the occasional silence and white noise of the world.
There was more crunching in the forest. Something running up behind her. She could hear its footsteps, light and quick, too light to be a grim, but not nearly quick enough to be an animal. No, she was being followed… by a person. And just before she could turn around, she heard her…
“RAVEN!”
Raven turned her head, red eyes glaring back at the girl, now panting behind her. She stood below one of the many moonbeams, the paleness of her skin and the white of her cloak making her glow in the dark. Under any other circumstance, Raven may have found her beautiful… but right now, she was blinding… she was torture.
She sneered, “What are you doing here, Summer?”
“I could ask you the same question.”
Raven knew damn well where this conversation was heading, so she turned her head forward, away from Summer, so she wouldn’t have to look her in the eye when she eventually asked…
“Raven, you can’t seriously be leaving… can you?”
Raven’s hand twitched on her hilt.
“I have to.”
“Why?”
“I can’t answer that.”
“Why not?”
Because it was too damn complicated that’s why. The woman contemplated telling Summer her reason, but even then, where would it even begin? When her twin brother ran off to Beacon to become a huntsman? When they both ended up enrolled in Beacon Academy despite Raven’s obvious resentment for the establishment and its staff? When she foolishly grew attached to her silver-eyed partner? When she even more foolishly fell in love with Tai, their team goofball? When she idiotically had a child with him? When she oh so fucking stupidly grew to love and care for these people she promised she would leave behind forever?
No… it would start with him. That man, that scoundrel… that Ozpin. Through his stupid spectacles and behind that greying hair, she knew… she knew the ugly truth about that man… that school… the bloody kingdoms… she never truly liked the huntsmen academies to begin with, being raised by bandits did that to you. But knowing the truth… that they were nothing but pawns… the atrocities that man had committed and planned to commit, and how everybody believed in him, even Qrow…
“You wouldn’t understand.” She answered
Summer clutched her fists before responding.
“You’re right… I don’t understand…” her head whipped upward, staring desperately into Raven’s back “I don’t understand why you would leave your team over a band of killers and thieves!”
Ravens head whipped around.
“How did you-!?” Qrow and Raven being raised by bandits wasn’t a secret between STRQ, but Raven had made a specific (and in her mind, a damn good) attempt at keeping her departure a secret. She’d be in bed next to the father of her child that night, and would be out of their lives by the morn. The only one even remotely close to reading her emotions was…
“Qrow told you, didn’t he?”
Summer straightened “He told me enough.”
Raven cursed under breath.
“Raven,” Summer began “I know this… tribe… raised you. And I understand you may feel… obligated to return to them. But you have a family now! A man who loves you and a daughter! Me and Qrow! We’re all here for each other! And I know raising a child might be scary, but again, we’re here for each other! We can help you through this- “
“THAT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THIS!”
The forest fell silent. No crickets, no wind, not a single creature moved or even dared to breath as the echo of Raven’s voice faded in the distance.
“This place isn’t right, Summer.” Raven took a step toward her. “That place you call a haven, is a lie! The cause you claim to be fighting for is a sham! That man you trusted to lead us… is a fraud!”
“What are you talking about-?”
“He’s using us Summer! He’s using all of us! And I refuse to be a pawn in his game. Its only a matter of time before everything falls apart and I’m not sticking around to be stuck in it!”
“Raven you’re not making any sense- Tai… and Yang… you’d just… leave them?”
Raven’s emotions where complicated when it came to this matter. She knew she loved Tai, but also had no desire to love or be loved. It was strange how the silly little emotion worked, making you love someone no matter how much you may want otherwise. And then there was Yang, her one and only daughter… a mistake.
They say the connection between a mother and child is unlike any bond in the world, and Raven had always been suspecting of that notion. If a mother’s tie to her child was so strong then why didn’t her and Qrow’s mother stick around? Her point only proven after Yangs birth. She had held the child in her arms, tiny violate eyes opening to her, and had felt like she was holding a stranger rather than her own child. Her team had merely suspected her lack of emotion due to exhaustion. But despite all that, they had connected to her, so she felt obligated to keep them safe.
“Yang deserves to grow up like any normal child would. The life of a bandit wouldn’t be right for her and gods know Tai wouldn’t be up for it. So he’ll stay and take care of her for me”
Summer looked at Raven, utterly perplexed.
“You’d just… leave him? The man who loves you more than anything in the world and you’d leave him to take care of a child all alone!?”
“He won’t be alone” Raven replied, “He’ll have Qrow, and he’ll have you…” the dark woman looked to the ground as if a sudden thought crossed in her mind. “unless…” another step forward “you come with me.”
Summer blinked in confusion. “W-what?”
“You’re special Summer, and Ozpin will no doubt want to make use of you too… he can’t be trusted.” Her red eyes bored into Summer’s silver ones as she held out her hand. “If you come with me you’ll be safe and out of the kingdoms reach, you can protect our tribe… and I can protect you.”
The girl in white took a step back, eyes never leaving her partners. “No.” she stated quietly “I won’t leave Qrow and Tai like that. And you shouldn’t either!”
Raven’s hand dropped, her expression hardening. “So sentimental…” she spoke to the sky “You cared too much for our mess of a team that’s the only reason we kept together…” She looked to her, face softer “That’s what made you special.”
Summer fell silent. She knew enough about Raven to know that she often meant more than what she said. And to hear such genuine words really touched her… to a point where she felt a painful throbbing in her chest as Raven turned her back again.
“So do me a favor and take care of Tai for me, and make sure my brother doesn’t do anything stupid. As for Yang… well she’s your guy’s responsibility now…” Twigs crunched under her boot as she began walking away.
Summer quickly bolted up to her. “Wait!” Grabbing Raven by the shoulder. “You were always so incredibly smart and skilled, when I saw you fight for the first time I knew ‘That’s the type of huntress I wanna be!’ You inspired me so much, you’re the reason I am where I am now! You say STRQ stayed together because of me… but I think you’re wrong! Raven… You’re my best friend! And STRQ sticks together because we’re friends! No… we’re family. So please…” Her grip tightened “don’t leave me… don’t leave your family behind…”
Raven made no response to Summer’s plea. As the crickets and the wind returned, she nudged Summers hand off her shoulder. Walking forward as a large crimson portal opened before her, a large red eye staring into a dark abyss. She brought a ghoulish grim mask to her face, not looking back at Summer Rose.
“From this moment on… we’re strangers. Be sure no one follows me.” And with that she walked into the red eye, disappearing in the blink of it.
“Raven…”

Young Summer: *Glares a her* I am your leader Raven and you will respect my authority.
Young Raven: Authority? What authority could a frail little pipsqueak have over someone as strong as me?
Young Summer: *Smirks* last time I checked, It was Tai or Qrow who were the strong ones n the group.
(Young Raven growls and scowls, storming away while Summer followed suit in the opposite direction while Young Taiyang and Qrow look at each other)
Young Taiyang: Do you think Summer knows she’s probably stronger than the two of us?
Young Qrow: Tai, do you honestly think Summer can think herself better than anyone?
Young Taiyang: *sighs* I guess not.
(End Flashback)
Taiyang: ...Yeah, that never happened.

IT'S HERE! A whole week late, but I finally finished the last prompt for Rosebird Week. This time it's AU day and I decided to go with an AU no one expected or really wanted.
IT'S MATRIX AU TIME! LET'S GO!
Summer sat in her bed, head pressed back against the metal wall, and eyes closed, just allowing herself to feel the vibrations of the hovercraft as it flew through the complex hive of tunnels beneath the earth. It was strangely peaceful, and it helped ground her in the real world. It also let her listen to the steps of the rest of her crew.
She heard a set of them approaching her room and pausing at the door. It took a moment for her crewmate to actually open it and step in, but when she did Summer didn’t need to open her eyes to know who it was.
Raven quietly closed the door behind her and walked up to Summer’s bed, sitting next to her. Neither of them felt the need to greet each other, both just wanting to enjoy this silent moment, away from the constant barrage of information that was The Matrix.
“Hey, Raven,” Summer eventually spoke. It was a quiet call, a whisper just for her friend, “can I ask you something?”
“You wanna know if I believe it,” Raven answered, fully aware of the doubts that had been plaguing her, “if I think you’re The One.”
Silence returned to the room.
Yes, that had been Summer’s question, a question that had been at the back of her mind since the moment Ozpin called her by that title. It felt like unearned praise, and she couldn’t help but feel the weight of humanity’s survival resting on her shoulders.
“Yes,” she whispered back.
“I don’t,” Raven answered bluntly, “I think this whole chosen one deal is just absolute horseshit.”
That took Summer by surprise. She opened her eyes and turned on her side so she could look at her companion. Raven looked so different in this world, older, more tired, less composed. She liked this version more, it made Raven feel more human, more real.
“Then why do you even follow Ozpin in the first place?”
“Because as full of crap as he is, he’s still doing good work,” she explained, “we’re still saving people.” Raven turned too, meeting summer’s gaze. Her eyes were a dark brown, not the red they were in The Matrix, “we saved you, didn’t we?”
The two shifted ever closer, eyes still locked on each other in the peaceful silence of Summer’s chamber.
“I believe in you, Summer,” Raven added, so close to Summer that she could feel her breath on her lips, “chosen one or not.”
Before they could drift any closer than that, the door to the room was slammed open as Taiyang cheerfully declared, “come on, it’s about time our girl took a trip to the Oracle.”
~~~
That trip had gone as horribly as it possibly could. Lionheart had betrayed them, half their crew was dead, and Ozpin had been captured by the agents. Leaving Summer, Raven, and Qrow, with only two options. Killing Ozpin themselves before the agents could extract the information they wanted from him, or diving in to fight near impossible odds in a suicidal mission to save him.
In the end the choice was obvious.
The metal detectors in the building blared as Summer and Raven stepped in through the front door. One of the guards tiredly stood up and walked up to Summer, asking her to remove all metallic objects. She opened her white long coat and the man’s eyes went wide as he saw the amount of weapons she was packing.
A well placed punch sent the man flying off, and announcing the start of the gunfight. The guards in this room outnumbered, and outgunned them, but tied down as they were to the constraints of the Matrix, they never stood a chance.
Summer leaped from cover to cover, firing at them in mid air as their bullets tore the entire room to shreds. Raven didn’t have any firearms on her, but that didn’t render her harmless in the slightest. She would fly out of cover in the form of a raven, fly through the gunfire, and return to her normal form just in time to slice their throats open with her sword.
Soon enough they were the only ones left standing in the destroyed room.
Raven took the bag they brought in and together they marched into the elevator.
“You still haven’t told me how you do the bird thing,” Summer commented, casually despite the seriousness of the mission they were in.
“The same way you made your eyes silver,” Raven explained as she dropped the bag to the ground and started arming the bomb they had hidden inside, “you override the Matrix through your own self perception. Me and my brother just took it a step further. We change how we perceive ourselves on the fly, and the Matrix changes our form to match it.”
“So you see yourself as a bird, and then the Matrix turns you into a bird?” Summer asked, hitting the emergency break button on the elevator.
“Yeah, like that.”
Summer couldn’t keep herself from snickering as she pushed off the emergency exit on the roof of the elevator, earning herself a confused look from Raven.
“So you and Qrow are bird furries?” Summer asked playfully.
Raven groaned and finished arming the bomb. “Just shut up and focus on the plan.”
“Yes, ma’am.”
~~~
Copious amounts of gunfire, and a catastrophic helicopter ride later, the three of them found themselves in a cramped phone booth down by the subway. Ozpin was bleeding heavily and was far too exhausted to stand on his own, but he still laughed deliriously.
“Do you believe it now, Raven?” He asked between his bouts of laughter.
Raven shook her head and picked up the ringing phone, handing it to Ozpin.
“We can talk about faith all you want once we’re out of here.”
The crazy old man put the phone to his ear and disappeared, his mind returning to his real body. Summer put the phone back in place and gave Raven some space.
“You go next,” she offered.
“Right,” Raven nodded, but there was still something in her mind. Her fists clenched as if she was trying to steel herself for something, “Summer, once we’re out of here, there’s something...there’s something I need to tell you.”
“More reason for us to get going,” she replied, just as the phone began to ring, she gestured towards it with her head and smiled, “come on, wouldn’t want to keep you waiting.”
Raven smiled back and took the phone, she barely had time to put it to her ear before the sound of gunfire rang through their ears. She was gone before the bullet could have hit her, but the phone itself was destroyed, taking Summer’s escape route with it.
“Ms. Moore,” greeted a voice behind her.
Theresa Moore. Summer hated that name. She hated to hear it used like this, because it wasn’t hers, not anymore. And there was only one person who still used it, the man that had interrogated her, the man that had captured Ozpin, the man that now had a gun aimed right for her head.
Agent Ironwood.
“You’ve been creating quite a lot of trouble for us lately,” the agent continued, “I think it’s time we put an end to that.”
Summer dodged the first bullet that came her way, quickly returning fire as she dashed for him. That speed that had felt like a fluke when she fought that other agent now came to her naturally, easily allowing her to dodge his gunfire, until she was up in close quarters with him.
They both put their guns to each other’s heads and pulled their triggers.
Empty.
Agent Ironwood threw the first punch, his fist somehow faster and more terrifying than any bullet could. She parried the blow with more difficulty than she expected, and hit back for no real impact.
Damn it, she had to be faster, stronger. This was the Matrix, the only limits on her body were those her mind imposed on it, she had to forget those limits if she had any chance of surviving this. Each attack he threw her way became ever so slightly easier to avoid, and every one of her strikes came back with just a little more force.
It was a lucky blow, but a good kick managed to crack his sunglasses in half. She could do this, she could actually win this. Maybe Raven was right, she didn’t have to be The One in order to make a difference.
That was until she was put through a wall, and then launched into the train tracks.
“Just surrender, Ms. Moore,” the agent spoke, jumping down to the tracks and pinning her to the ground, “let me put an end to this and it will all be over quick and painless.”
Summer could hear the train approaching, she could hear her own end right at her doorstep. But she couldn’t care about it right now, all she could think was how much she hated this man for using that stupid name.
“My name,” she began, pushing back against the agent until she was standing up again, “is Summer Rose.”
The train ran over both of them and Summer’s conscience scattered into countless white petals. For a moment her mind was gone, left to the whim of whatever program was responsible for controlling the winds of the Matrix, but slowly they began to gather again, the data that formed her body coalescing once again in the form of a woman.
Summer took a long shaky breath. That had been terrifying in so many ways, but it saved her life. In that moment she swore to herself she would never, ever try anything like that again. It was best to leave the shapeshifting to the twins.
Unfortunately she wasn’t given much time to recover, because a certain agent had just stepped off of the train, looking very angry.
She didn’t have it in her to keep fighting this time, so she ran as fast as she could. Dashing through the streets, Summer grabbed the first cell phone she could find and quickly dialled up the Beacon.
“Mr. Wizard, I need a way out!” She yelled into the phone.
“We’ve got your back, Ms. Rose,” Ozpin replied calmly on the other end, “let me guide you through this.”
She ran up and down buildings, out windows and back doors, pushing away people before they could be turned into more agents. Adrenaline pumped through her veins, her mind racing as much as her body as she chased the sound of that ringing phone.
It was right there. She could feel it. She just had to open the door and--
Bang!
Bang!
Bang!
~~~
The monitors inside the Beacon blared out a warning as Summer’s brain activity completely ceased.
“No!” Raven screamed as she ran to Summer’s terminal, “no no no no no!”
She climbed onto Summer’s seat, straddling her and holding her face in her hands.
“No! You can’t die too. You can’t!” Raven begged, tears falling onto Summer’s face, “the Oracle promised me! You can’t!”
Summer couldn’t be dead. She couldn’t. Raven refused to believe that.
“She said the woman I love would be The One,” she said, hands shaking, “so you can’t die here!”
Her breath was weak and shaky, her vision blurry from all the tears.
“I believe it, Summer. I believe in you. I believe whatever it takes to keep you alive.”
She didn’t know what else to do. Maybe there really was nothing else to do, but she refused to accept that, refused to sit there and let Summer die. So she did the only thing she could think to do. She closed her eyes and leaned in.
~~~
Summer’s eyes shot open. Instinct told her to suck in a deep breath and refill her lungs, but there was no air around her, there were only codes and programs to simulate it. She stood up, the ground beneath her just textures, sensorial information, and some physics related code. She could see it, the seams on the fabric of the world.
The Matrix.
Bullets were fired her way and she looked at them with almost curiosity. Their code was as clear as day, so easily read, so easily altered. She rewrote a portion of it and the bullets exploded into white rose petals.
Then came that program, Agent Ironwood, shouting as he tried to strike her down. It would have killed her, but she was faster than him now, she was as fast as she needed to be. With one hand she stopped every attack he threw her way, her face showing no sign of focus or exertion, simply the almost amused look of someone who finally got a joke they heard so long ago.
She had already won.
~~~
Her eyes opened once again, this time for good. After what felt like hours in The Matrix her eyes struggled to adjust to the light inside the Beacon, so for a few moments all she knew was that there was a dark shape standing over her, and that her face was somehow wet.
A hiccuping sob above her made clear what had happened while she was gone.
Summer reached for the woman above her, her thumb wiped away those tears, and she smiled.
“Thank you, Raven,” she spoke, as softly as she did in those quiet moments in her chamber, “thank you, for believing in me.”
Guess who forgot to post yesterday's @rosebird-week prompt? THIS BITCH! Well it's here now, and I hope y'all enjoy it.
This is for the Beacon Days prompt, so I decided to play around with poor teenage Raven being bad at handling her crush on her cute team leader.
Team STRQ’s dorm was one of the few places where Qrow could sit back and relax, where he could casually enjoy the company of his friends without the constant pressures of school. Well, when his sister wasn’t around, that is.
“Get out!” Raven shouted as she slammed the door open. Qrow barely cared to look her way, but Taiyang practically jumped to attention at the sound.
“Uh, me?” Tai asked, looking like a complete fool.
“Yes, you!” Raven shouted again, “I need to talk to my brother!”
Tai did not waste time booking it from the room, leaving behind a very tired, and very disinterested Qrow to face his sister’s wrath alone. Maybe if he pretended to be busy with something else she would go away.
“What do you think you’re doing?” She asked.
“Uh, I think it’s called lounging,” Qrow answered, “it’s when you’re casually relaxing, I think you should try it, Rae.”
“Not that, you idiot,” she replied, fury barely contained in her voice, “I heard you were going out with Tai on friday.”
“What about it?” He asked with a careless shrug, “this isn’t a date if that’s what you’re worried about.”
Raven pinched the bridge of her nose, and Qrow could almost see the murderous intent she was trying so hard to repress.
“What I’m worried about is that you’re fraternizing with the enemy.” She hissed, suppressing a scream.
“What? It’s just some harmless team bonding,” he insisted.
“Do you even remember why we’re here?” Raven asked, hands tensing as she pictured herself strangling her brother, “we’re not here to become huntsmen, we’re not here to befriend huntsmen. We’re here to learn how to kill huntsmen! And how exactly are you planning on doing that when you’re so busy bonding with them?”
“Well…”
His response was cut short as they hurt a loud, “I’m coming in!” From the outside of their dorm. Once again the door for their dorm was slammed open, as Summer Rose stepped in, carrying a stack of books roughly the same size as her
“Hi! Sorry!” She greeted as she stumbled forwards a little, trying to keep everything properly balanced, “hope I’m not interrupting any important family moment. I just want to put these away real quick.”
“Hey, Summer, don’t worry about it,” Raven awkwardly greeted, every ounce of anger now completely gone from her voice, “here, let me help you.”
Raven quickly stepped forward, taking half of Summer’s massive stack of books and placing it on their study desk.
“Oh, thanks Rae,” Summer beamed as she put down the rest of the books, “you’re a life saver.”
“D-Don’t mention it,” she replied, brushing a lock of hair behind her ear. Qrow wanted to vomit, or laugh, or maybe both.
“Alright, I’ll leave you two to it then,” Summer said, turning to leave before catching herself, “I nearly forgot! Hey, Rae, so you know how the boys are going out this Friday?”
“I’ve heard of it, yes,” she answered, annoyance slowly creeping back in.
“Well, how about we have a little girl’s night?” Summer asked, leaning maybe a bit too close to Raven, “just the two of us.”
Raven’s face had turned as red as her armor, and it took everything in Qrow not to laugh at her expense.
“I-I think I’d like that,” she answered, so very quietly.
“Alright!” Summer cheered, nearly jumping in the air in joy, “it’s a date then!”
And with that declaration - which would already be enough to kill Raven on the spot - Summer gave her a kiss on the cheek and cheerfully left the room, closing the door behind her as she left.
For a moment it looked as if Raven had completely forgotten about him, or the conversation they were having, her hand slowly drifting towards the spot where Summer had planted that kiss, and the corner of her lips twitched upwards in what Qrow could only assume was Rae’s best approximation of a smile.
He couldn’t keep himself from snickering at that.
The glare Raven shot at him could have brought a giant Nevermore down from the skies, were it not for the fact that she was still touching her own cheek. Seeming to finally realize that, Raven snapped her hand away and hissed.
“One word and they’ll never find your body.”
And stalked away with whatever was left of her dignity.
